advice: detaching yourself from male validation & seeking relationships

here's the thing with high school relationships: they are so so fun. the idea of a first love is such a beautiful thing in my opinion, and I think everyone SHOULD experience at like a sort-of romantic relationship before college. this teaches people how to care for others, have communication skills, and serves to help you navigate future, more serious relationships later in life.
HOWEVER, you really, really, really shouldn't ever depend on this idea that you will find a perfect boyfriend or girlfriend in high school, that you'll be sweethearts and go to prom together and be this perfect, complete thing. because, to put it honestly, people think too much about themselves. especially at an age where you are still very much a kid, growing and learning and sometimes not taking others into consideration.
" so, what?" SO, here is how you navigate this incredible strong desire to obtain a boyfriend, or even just romantic attention from guys:
get a hobby. not one to impress anyone but yourself. if you like a guy who's super into film, you don't need to become a ' film girl'. find somethings that screams YOU. it can literally be anything you enjoy doing in your free time, ( i'll put up a link to suggestions here) but I'm personally advising something productive. which brings me to my next point...
get off your phone!!! i can't say enough about this, seriously. if you're constantly checking your socials, on tiktok/snap/insta, you will be taking in the lives of other people, whether it be your friends or complete strangers. this builds jealousy. a proven fact, depression and anxiety is present teenagers who use social media DOUBLE the amount of teens who don't. majority of these apps don't lead to anything good, and mainly serve as major distractions to other important aspects of your life. ( i know you're reading this on tumblr, but i'm here to tell you that my account is good vibes only luv y'all)
non-romantic social interaction is key. everyone needs environments where they are able to decompress, be ugly, be genuine, laugh and have a good time without the upkeep or stress of trying to look a certain way. this is what real friends are for. on top of this, good friends will shut down negative self-talk and hype you up like you deserve to be! spend time with people that make you feel good about yourself.
turning that all into confidence doesn't look like the simplest thing, but trust me, it can be effortless with time and sticking to what you know is best for yourself. putting your phone away creates less windows into other people's lives, which will in turn make you realize that those people you once obsessed over? not that important. reaching that step will be such a relieving feeling, and you won't regret it. putting your time into things you're interested will help you get to know yourself better, enjoy solitude, and will genuinely make you happier. the reason people encourage things like this in the first place is because they work!! the final results of doing these things will look like a self-confidant queen, who doesn't chase, but attracts.

digital detox - what you can do in your free time!

stop your phone addiction!! healthy and productive things/new hobbies you should start in 2025!
read 30+ minutes every day - reading improves your vocabulary so much and is a great alternative for entertainment. make a goal for the amount of books you want to read a year. i can put a link to book some recs here !
2. work out regularly - my favorite thing is to go on runs early in the morning. this is proven to boost dopamine levels and increase productivity in other areas of your life, including work and school. if you don't like running, I suggest going to the gym and getting a feel for what suits you and your needs best! if any suggestions/workout plans are needed, i can link them here.
3. journal - this is a really good habit to build, and is something you can make a consistent routine of doing, which will improve your moods and get out the goods and bags of each day. the key to journaling is that you don't always have to be interesting, but you should always be honest, its only for you to read!
4. yoga - this can technically fall into the working out category, but i tend to do yoga less for energy and more to destress, relax my body, or set focused intentions for my day. yoga is a great thing to do in groups and can allow you to meet new people!
5. spend time with friends - the human brain needs social interaction to going moving..people love people! you can make plans to spend time with friends and family in non-screen environments, and this can seriously improve your mood!
6. make art - this can be in the form of literally anything you want, and thats the best part. if you're in high school or live near a community theater, go join! if you like to make physical art pieces, try out painting, sketching, or working with clay. you could even try writing for fun, on any topic you could think of. having a creative outlet is important for personal growth and just makes you more interesting in general. cool points!!
7. learn to cook - cooking is such a necessary skill to learn, and why not start now? finding new recipes, improving skills, and the most fun, getting to make whatever you want, are all awesome benefits to cooking for yourself. and you do not need to be a total chef the second you start, i am certainly not, but it can be loads of fun to simply prepare food for others and yourself to enjoy!

remember that while social media is perfectly okay and normal in moderation, too much of it can lead to poor mental health, addiction, decreased productivity, and unnecessary stressors in life. you can start limiting screen time now by starting some of these hobbies or whatever you find enjoyable!!

haircare of 2024 - buy or bye!!
ive tried about a million different shampoos, conditioners, hair masks, etc. these are the complete and honest opinions towards each and every one.
SHAMPOO
kristen ess signature - DO! this is seriously one a tried and true, smells great and is cheap enough to buy regularly, but feels like good quality haircare.
biolage smoothproof/hydration - DON'T! to be honest, this feels way too pricey for the treatment you get. leaves residue in your hair no matter what..
l'oreal elvive - DO! this smells so good, really helps with dry hair, color safe, and sold in grocery stores for pretty cheap.
shea moisture hyration - DONT! okay for a little bit, after a little you start to develop product buildup, not fun!
CONDITIONER
biolage conditioner - DONT! seemed to almost highlight my split ends for me, felt like it was causing breakage..
l'oreal elivie - DO! this feels incredible, smells amazing, really cheap, and actually hydrates your hair. love love love.
shea moisture hyration - DONT! feels super thin in your hair, like its been watered down. very cheap feeling for an okay price, but not worth it.
amika normcare - DO! this is on the more expensive side, but i would really call it worth it. perfect formula and pairs well with other amiga products, smells like summertime!
HAIR MASKS
amika soulfood - DO! this seems like its some cult classic on the internet, but i actually want to talk about how long this thing will last you, a really long time!! very worth it imo
kristen ess moisture - DO! light, smells strong like their other products but if you enjoy a long lasting scent, very recommended
maui - DONT! this causes genuine breakage in your hair, and smells essentially like sunscreen in a jar. nope!
trader joes - DO! weird one on the list, but had to include it because it feels underrated and really cheap for how good it is!
OTHER TOOLS
the biggest thing I would suggest to help your hair would be to get a silk pillowcase or a silk bonnet. this leaves your hair feeling so much softer in the morning, and puts a lot less stress on it!
scalp massagers are great! this helps you actually shampoo your hair, gets blood flow going to help it grow, etc
if you want your hair to grow, USE BIOTIN OIL!!! it has helped me and so many people I know get their hair healed, glossy, and thicker. grows FAST too!
