Just because you've awakened to a state of Non-Dual awareness doesn't mean you won't succumb to alcoholism or sex addiction or whatever.
I used to believe once awakened (whatever that means), you've reached a point of understanding and live your highest realised truth.
The thing is, we're all human. Enlightened or un enlightened, is irrelevant. I had six years sober before I even knew what non-duality was.
I've succumbed to temptation and alcoholism. I'm not ashamed to admit that. I am an alcoholic. I am addict, full stop.
Alan Watts, believe it or not, was an alcoholic.
Nisargadatta Maharaj, believe it not, was a chronic smoker.
Why did these saints/guru's choose to use such poison whilst living from a place of clarity and truth?
Because they were human.
As we all are.
And don't beat yourself up as I do myself.
Addiction is a part of my karma in this lifetime.
It just shows me there's more work to do and deeper levels of being to realise and experience.
As humans, whether we've embodied being fully divine yet fully human, or we're the biggest egoic mess one could ever imagine.. we're still human.
And we can all struggle with health issues and addictions in the same ways.
We're human. And we will be until our physical death.

You can't keep doing this.
You can't keep doing shitty things and then feel bad about yourself like that makes it okay.
You need to be better.
You are all the things that are wrong with you.
It's not the alcohol, or the drugs, or any of the shitty things that happened to you in your career, or when you were a kid,
it's you.

What matters is that you keep going, that you stay alive. Slowly, you will start to see the positive effects of trying to do new things, as frightening and awkward as they may seem. Be proud of your small steps towards living your life, not matter the pace they take, no matter what others think. The most important thing is how you are already being so brave for taking this path.

Remember: forcing yourself to be too positive when you just can't feel it naturally is not encouraging yourself anymore, if it feels too forceful to you, it becomes toxic positivity.

Do you also deal with mood swings? Mine have been pretty bad lately. Emotional dysregulation is a common symptom of ADHD. Though it can also be caused by bipolar disorder, autism spectrum disorder, anxiety and depression (amongst many other things).
I can go from being happy one day to feeling anxious or sad the next, often triggered by insignificant events. Also, me being a 'highly sensitive person' means I’m easily emotionally overwhelmed because I take everything to heart and even feel other people's pain. For example, I saw something upsetting on the news yesterday and it left me feeling depressed all day 🥺 Sometimes it really feels like my brain is playing Wheel of Fortune with me to decide my mood.

even if you started your journey of recovery and went through a time of better mental health, you are not broken for feeling not so great again. you are never meant to feel perfect all the time.
some people naturally struggle with excess anxiety or feelings of depression, and they may need help to tone it down and smooth the ups and downs of their life. but negative feelings in moderation are simply human, and you did not fail, you did not mess up, for feeling them again. all that it means is you are human.
however, if what you feel seems extreme and constant, it might be wise to seek help again, and that’s okay! there are periods of life where one solution works, but then maybe later it doesn’t work anymore and a new one is in store. trust yourself, because you know how you feel and you know yourself, and you can figure out what you need to feel better. take your time and be careful with your heart❤️

Just a reminder, you don't fucking need anybody. Let them care when it's to late, let them realize when your already gone, let understand the gravity of your presence when your no longer around

Self-care is thrown around a lot as a magic bullet to solve all of your problems. If you’d only take a second to treat yourself, you’d be fine!
But what does self-care really mean?
First, I think there’s a difference between self-care and self-soothing. Self-soothing might look something like this, for example:
Self-soothing: Activities that provide distraction and/or comfort in difficult times
Examples illustrated include: TV bingeing, bubble bath, fancy beverages, singing loudly, getting out into nature, time off from home responsibilities & childcare, fresh flowers, cuddling, exercise
Such delightful things!
Self-soothing is INCREDIBLY important to our well-being. Sometimes, though, these activities may not actually get at stabilizing you, or creating opportunities for you to move forward.
That’s where self-care can come in:
Self-care: Activities that help you find meaning, and that support your growth & groundedness
Examples illustrated include: Going to therapy, meditating, exercise, taking ownership of your finances, napping, saying “yes” and “no” when you really mean it, massage, getting medical care, eating well for your body, yoga, setting — and keeping! — boundaries
Do you feel the difference between soothing & care?
(That “finances” one may or may not be borne out of my own traumatic experiences with money, btw. Also: certain things may be self-soothing for some, and self-care for others. You get to decide!)
Still, it takes a LOT to be able to even do self-care, since the systems and cultural norms in which we currently live can feel impossible to navigate on our own.
That’s why it’s important to have workarounds:
Community care: Workarounds for systems that don’t inherently support care (ie, capitalism!)
Examples illustrated include: Childcare & education collectives, freecycle and buy nothing groups, dignified, supportive healthcare orgs, intimate relationships outside of traditional romantic couplehood norms, worker-owned coops, credit unions, co-housing, skill sharing and mutual aid
Taking one step further back, it’s also important to recognize that workarounds and harm-reduction are also only one part of the solution.
We also need to fundamentally overhaul (or tear down and rebuild entirely) the systems in which we live, so that we can be further enabled to work on the other kinds of care that we need.
Structural care: Systems that support community care, self-care AND self-soothing
Examples illustrated include: comprehensive universal healthcare, environmental defense and renewal, child- and eldercare, living wage, efficient public transportation, gender & sexuality liberation, racial equity & justice, paid family leave (and an illustration of the word “capitalism” on fire and melting)
No single person can do all the kinds of care that are needed all the time; we each can play a role in supporting each other in different ways, though. Now, go forth and care for each other — and yourself.
