~Mixed feelings~

Solane's feelings toward Apollo/Lester are tangled and difficult to untie. A part of her still blames him for letting Daniel die, for not stepping in when she needed him most. But another part understands that death isn't something even a god can always stop, especially when it's simply someone's time. What hurts more is how Apollo left her behind, handing her to Daniel and disappearing, never visiting, never watching her grow. She knows the rule. Zeus’s decree that gods can’t raise their demigod children lest they become too human, but it still feels like abandonment. It stings when Apollo, in the body of Lester, calls out to "his beautiful kids" as if he hadn't been a ghost in her life for so long. And yet, despite it all, she loves him in the quiet, reluctant way children sometimes love the parent who gave them life. He did give birth to her, after all. He did help her, in subtle, careful ways, just enough to keep from breaking Zeus’s rule, but not enough to stop her heart from breaking too.

Solane's Childhood

Solane Etika's childhood was extraordinary from birth. Her mortal father, Daniel Etika, unexpectedly received her from Apollo, who had uniquely carried and delivered Solane himself. Daniel, a kind doctor, embraced Solane's emerging demigod traits, her dyslexia, prophetic visions, and accidental curses, with unconditional love and understanding.

Their small family grew to include Clarisse La Rue, their neglected neighbor. Daniel, with his compassion, invited Clarisse into their home, and Clarisse quickly became Solane's fierce protector from bullies.

However, this idyllic period was tragically brief. When Clarisse was six and Solane four, Clarisse was suddenly taken to Camp Half-Blood, leaving no time for goodbyes. Solane, heartbroken and believing her friend was kidnapped, cried for days. A year later, at five, Solane suffered another devastating loss when Daniel died in a car accident.

Custody then fell to Maria, Solane's aunt. Maria, grieving Daniel's death, reacted to Solane's growing powers with firm denial, refusing to believe she was anything but a normal child. This denial led to Solane feeling isolated and blamed for her "bad" prophecies.

When Solane was twelve, she too was taken to Camp Half-Blood without warning. Maria spent the entire summer frantically searching for her. Solane's casual return at summer's end, oblivious to her aunt's torment.

Azrael Liong: Son of Thanatos

Azrael Liong was born with silence clinging to his breath.

His mother, Rose Liong, worked as a crime scene cleaner in Los Angeles, a job she never quite explained to her relatives. She’d always had a strange sense for the supernatural, something in her blood told her when something unholy was near, and it was always near. For years, she felt something watching her. Then one late night, exhausted and half-joking, she muttered, “If there’s a ghost in here, I’ll date you if you do the dishes.”

He appeared in the kitchen five seconds later. Not a ghost. A god.

Thanatos, god of peaceful death, had been watching her for a long time. And to Rose’s surprise, he wasn’t cruel or cold. He was quiet, poetic, a little awkward, and terribly sincere. They fell in love. He was busy, there were always people dying, but he always came back. When she became pregnant, he didn’t take the news well at first. He thought she had cheated. Gods of death don’t have children, after all. They are supposed to be sterile. When she swore it was his, Thanatos simply said:

“Then I will be here, no matter what you choose.”

She chose to keep the baby. The pregnancy was not easy. Azrael was born early, the doctors rushing in when her water broke too soon. When he was born, he did not cry. Panic surged in the delivery room, until Thanatos appeared, cloaked in shadows. He pressed a hand to his son’s chest. The baby drew breath. He cried.

Death had given life.

Azrael’s early childhood was filled with strange, tragic events. Animals brought into the house would die within days, often curling up beside him as if to say goodbye. His first nanny quit after two weeks. The second lasted three days. The third one ran screaming when she saw withered plants following Azrael’s footsteps like fallen leaves.

Rose called Thanatos in a panic. He answered quietly, appearing with a grave warning.

“Keep him hidden. Don’t let the mortals investigate. Don’t let him believe he is cursed.”

Rose quit her job and began working remotely, keeping her son close. She taught him that he wasn’t evil, just in tune with the balance of life and death. When things died near him, it was because their time had come, not because of anything he did.

But by the time Azrael turned ten, his powers spiraled out of control. Death followed him more aggressively, plants shriveled in his presence, small animals dropped dead if he touched them, and even an elderly neighbor collapsed on the stairs after speaking to him for a moment too long.

That night, a swarm of black butterflies descended on their home, each one bearing a flicker of Thanatos’s essence. They surrounded Azrael, guiding him toward a destination he’d never seen.

Camp Half-Blood.

Thanatos contacted Chiron directly. He made himself known, terrifying, commanding, and clear.

“My son is coming. Prepare him a cabin. Train him. If any harm befalls him, your camp will become a graveyard.”

Azrael arrived alone, barefoot, butterflies flitting around his shoulders. Campers whispered as he passed, son of death, doombringer, ghost-kid. Most avoided him. Some feared him.

Only one person wasn’t afraid.

His paternal cousin, Kieran Bintang, son of Hypnos, greeted him like family, because he was. The two bonded over their strange powers, and the dark of fate that clung to them. Kieran helped Azrael sleep again. Azrael helped Kieran breathe again.
