Bad news for #science community and for #Israel . An Israeli spacecraft has lost contact with Earth and crashed just moments before it was to land on the Moon, failing in an ambitious attempt to make history as the first privately funded lunar mission. . The spacecraft lost communication with ground control late Thursday as it was making its final descent to the Moon. Moments later, the mission was declared a failure. . One of the inertial measurement units failed. And that caused an unfortunate chain of events , the engine turned off shortly before landing. By the time power was restored, the craft was moving too fast to land safely. Scientists were still trying to figure out the exact cause of the failure. . . . . . . . #israel #spaceil #spacex #falcon #tesla #beresheet #jews #india #isro #nasa #sciencecommunity #scienceeducation #research #researchanddevelopment #moonlandinghoax #moonlanding #moonmission #space #spacecraft #earth #planets #falconheavy #pslv #gslv #flatearth #flatearthsociety #flatearthmemes #saturnv #iss https://www.instagram.com/p/BwJRe0phse1/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=11vmdp6smquqv

This stunning new #image shows the shadow of the #supermassive #blackhole in the center of Messier 87 , an elliptical #galaxy some 55 million light-years from #Earth. This black hole is 6.5 billion times the mass of the Sun. Catching its shadow involved eight ground-based radio telescopes around the globe, operating together as if they were one telescope the size of our entire planet. . It is remarkable that the image we observe is so similar to that which we obtain from theoretical calculations. So far, it looks like Einstein is correct once again." . But having the first image will enable researchers to learn more about these mysterious objects. They will be keen to look out for ways in which the black hole departs from what's expected in physics. No-one really knows how the bright ring around the hole is created. Even more intriguing is the question of what happens when an object falls into a black hole. . . . . . . . #universe #BigBang #einstein #scientist #telescope #radio #internet #human #life #planets #stars #supernova #cosmos #astrophotography #astrophysics #photography #beautiful #nasa #flatearthsociety #flatearth #sciencefacts #science #seeker #youtube #sciencecommunity https://www.instagram.com/p/BwGzVcZB8Sd/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1mpofcqg9q5lq

#NASA wants to bring back 96 bags of poop from #Moon , but why ? . Studying the waste could provide insights about life in space and help humans prepare for long-term lunar missions and a future crewed mission to Mars .For microbes to still be alive or at least revivable, they would need moisture and stable temperatures. If the waste bags are tightly packed and intact, there’s a chance something might have survived. . Even if all the microbes are dead, studying them could still prove valuable if scientists can find out how long they survived and if they evolved in or adapted to their new environment. Analysing the waste could also help scientists better understand the origin of life on Earth and whether it’s possible to successfully plant the seed of life on a lifeless planet. . A total of 12 astronauts have landed on the lunar surface and have left a total of 96 bags containing urine, faeces, vomit and other waste. . Though the astronauts didn’t spend more than a few days in space, Nasa sent them prepared if they needed to urinate or defecate in space. Nasa specifically developed an absorbent garment, essentially a diaper, for astronauts to wear in space. But astronauts were forced to leave their own waste behind on the lunar surface because the missions were designed very specifically, taking into consideration the maximum weight the spacecraft could carry. Any extra weight could have put the astronauts at risk. So astronauts left behind many disposable items so they could bring back as many samples of lunar rocks and soil as possible. . . . . . #nasa #poop #moon #moonlanding #moonlandinghoax #flatearthsociety #flatearth #fake #nasa🚀 #fakenasa #scientist #science #sciencefacts #scienceeducation #sciencenews #sciencememes #astronaut #astrophotography #astrophysics #atheist #nogod #agnostic #religion #isro #csa #life #space #planet #earth #joerogan https://www.instagram.com/p/BwFACV-B8cP/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=wwicmnti0hbc

Are we really made of #stardust? Most of the elements of our bodies were formed in stars over the course of #billions of years and multiple #star lifetimes. However, it's also possible that some of our #hydrogen (which makes up roughly 9.5% of our bodies) and lithium, which our body contains in very tiny trace amounts, originated from the #BigBang. . We think that the #universe started 13 or 14 billion years ago, with the Big Bang. At that point only the lightest elements existed, such as hydrogen, #helium and minuscule amounts of #lithium . . The first generation of stars formed as lumps of gas drew together and eventually began to combust. This would cause a nuclear reaction in the centre of a star. The first stars that formed after the Big Bang were greater than 50 times the size of our #Sun . Inside stars a process takes place called #nucleosynthesis , which is basically the making of elements .The bigger the star, the faster they burn their fuel. The first stars burned their fuel quickly and were able to make only a few elements heavier than hydrogen and helium. When those stars went supernova and expelled the elements they had produced, they seeded the next generation of stars. . The next generation of seeded stars were then able to produce other, heavier kinds of elements such as carbon, magnesium and nearly every element in the periodic table. Any element in your body that is heavier than #iron has travelled through at least one s#upernova . . . . . . . . #sciencefacts #facts #science #sciencearticle #spacejunk #space #spacenews #spacetelescope #spacex #scientist #physicist #physics #biology #chemistry #chemist https://www.instagram.com/p/Bv_ePK6hzxh/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=14s610q11hgeo

#Indian anti-satellite test increased risk to International #space station (ISS) by 44% . . #NASA sees risk to #ISS after India's Mission Shakti: The ISS is at constant risk of collision from space debris, and once in a while needs to navigate away in order to avoid collisions . The debris created by the anti-satellite test carried out by India last week had increased the risk to the International Space Station, the head of US space agency, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), has said. But he acknowledged that this risk was comparatively small and would “dissipate” with time. . The International Space Station, or ISS, is the world’s only permanent facility in space, and has always been manned by one or more astronauts for the last two decades. The ISS serves as a platform to carry out a variety of experiments in space, especially those that require zero gravity, and also for testing new space systems and technologies. . The risk to the ISS (due to possible collision with space debris) had gone up by 44 per cent after the Indian anti-satellite test, both the ISS and the astronauts were safe for now , . . . . . . . . . . #india #usa #nasa #pakistan #china #russia #military #iss #spacestation #earth #spacejunk #space #spaceprogram #spacex #science #scienceeducation #sciencefacts #sciencenews #scientist #astrophotography #astronaut #isro #jaxa #cnsa #csa https://www.instagram.com/p/Bv55y-whpuu/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=ra4m0z61y1ef

What is #darkmatter and #darkenergy ? Short answer : we don't Know Well , Long answer short : In the early 1990s, one thing was fairly certain about the expansion of the #universe. It might have enough energy density to stop its expansion and recollapse, it might have so little #energy density that it would never stop expanding, but gravity was certain to slow the expansion as #time went on. Granted, the slowing had not been observed, but, theoretically, the universe had to slow. The universe is full of matter and the attractive force of gravity pulls all matter together. Then came 1998 and the #Hubble #Space #Telescope (HST) observations of very distant supernovae that showed that, a long time ago, the universe was actually expanding more slowly than it is today. So the expansion of the universe has not been slowing due to #gravity , as everyone thought, it has been accelerating. No one expected this, no one knew how to explain it. But something was causing it. . We know how much dark energy there is because we know how it affects the universe's expansion. It turns out that roughly 68% of the universe is dark energy. Dark matter makes up about 27%. The rest - everything on Earth, everything ever observed with all of our instruments, all normal matter - adds up to less than 5% of the universe. . Dark matter is not than we are what it is. It is dark, meaning that it is not in the form of #stars and #planets that we see. Observations show that there is far too little visible matter in the universe to make up the 27% required by the observations. It is not in the form of dark clouds of normal matter, dark matter is not #antimatter, we can rule out large galaxy-sized black holes on the basis of how many gravitational lenses we see. . There are still a few dark matter possibilities that are viable. Baryonic matter could still make up the dark matter if it were all tied up in brown dwarfs or in small, dense chunks of heavy elements. But the most common view is that dark matter is not baryonic at all, but that it is made up of other, more exotic particles like axions or Weakly Interacting Massive particles. . . . . #science #sciencefacts #scientist #sciencetheory https://www.instagram.com/p/BvlPAUjBqtH/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1hkqzbccpol2m

#Eratosthenes He is best known for being the first person to calculate the circumference of the #Earth. He was the first to calculate the tilt of the Earth's axis. He may have accurately calculated the distance from the Earth to the #Sun and invented the leap day. . he did by comparing angles of the mid-day Sun at two places a known North-South distance apart. His calculation was remarkably accurate. . Eratosthenes made several important contributions to #mathematics and #science, and was a friend of Archimedes. Around 255 BC, he invented the armillary sphere. In On the Circular Motions of the Celestial Bodies, Cleomedes credited him with having calculated the Earth's circumference around 240 BC, using knowledge of the angle of elevation of the Sun at noon on the summer solstice in Alexandria and on ElephantineIsland near Syene (modern Aswan, Egypt). . He calculated the Earth's circumference without leaving #Egypt. He knew that at local noon on the summer solstice in Syene the Sun was directly overhead. He knew this because the shadow of someone looking down a deep well at that time in Syene blocked the #reflection of the Sun on the #water . . He then measured the Sun's angle of elevation at noon in Alexandria by using a vertical rod, known as a gnomon, and measuring the length of its shadow on the ground.Using the length of the rod, and the length of the #shadow , as the legs of a #triangle, he calculated the angle of the Sun's rays. This turned out to be about 7°, or 1/50th the circumference of a circle. Taking the Earth as spherical, and knowing both the distance and direction of Syene, he concluded that the Earth's circumference was fifty times that distance. . Eratosthenes later rounded the result to a final value of 700 stadia per degree, which implies a circumference of 252,000 stadia (one stadia =185 to 192 metres ) In 2012, Anthony Abreu Mora repeated Eratosthenes's #calculation with more accurate data; the result was 40,074 km , which is 66 km different from the currently accepted #polar circumference of the Earth. . . . . #flatearth #flatlay #earthisflat #ballearth #donutearth #flateathmemes #moonlandinghoax #moonmission #moonlandingwasahoax https://www.instagram.com/p/BvW29EbBiWF/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=q9q5exvcjwgl

#NASA has decided to add a small helicopter to its #Mars 2020 rover mission. . Engineers at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, have been trying to figure out how to fly this thing. . If it can manage to stay airborne in the Red Planet’s next-to-nothing atmosphere long enough, it will make it possible to explore regions of Mars far from the mothership’s landing site. . “Flying a heavier-than-air vehicle within Mars’ thin atmosphere has never been done before. . Takeoff is not going to be as easy as it is on Earth. This autonomous rotorcraft will have to put up with freezing nights, avoid crashing in the thin Martian atmosphere, and somehow accomplish all that on its own. Flying will be perilous. At the site where Mars 2020 will land, the air pressure is about the same as that 100,000 feet above Earth. No helicopter launching from our planet has ever gone even half as high. . Because it’s only the size of a softball, weighs barely 4 pounds, and will be equipped with two sets of 4-foot-long rotor blades whirling furiously at 2,400 rotations per minute (around 10 times faster than anything you’d find on the home planet), this helicopter will make it up to 15 feet above the Martian surface. . . . . . . . #mars #helicopter #drone #science #education #time #rover #robot #robotics #engineering #physics #scientist #airforce #spaceforce #spacex #Instagram #planets #stars #spaceship https://www.instagram.com/p/BvRm3_3hVvE/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=18i2gemtr510w

#Galileo Galilei #Italian natural #philosopher , #astronomer, and #mathematician who made fundamental contributions to the sciences of motion, astronomy, and strength of materials and to the development of the scientific method. His formulation of inertia, the law of falling bodies, and parabolic trajectories marked the beginning of a fundamental change in the study of motion. . His insistence that the book of nature was written in the language of mathematics changed natural philosophy from a verbal, qualitative account to a mathematical one in which experimentation became a recognized method for discovering the facts of nature. Finally, his discoveries with the telescoperevolutionized astronomy and paved the way for the acceptance of the Copernican heliocentric system, but his advocacy of that system eventually resulted in an Inquisitionprocess against him. . Galileo studied speed and velocity, gravity and free fall, the principle of relativity, inertia, projectile motion and also worked in applied science and technology, describing the properties of pendulums and "hydrostaticbalances", inventing the thermoscope and various military compasses, and using the telescope for scientific observations of celestial objects. His contributions to observational astronomy include the telescopic confirmation of the phases of Venus, the observation of the four largest satellites of Jupiter, the observation of Saturnand the analysis of sunspots. . . . . . #astroworld #astrophotography #astrophysics #scientist #science #sciencefacts #scientificillustration #scienceeducation #space #jupiter #saturn #earth #planets #sun #physics #physicist #sciencelife #inventor #discovery #astronomy #stars #astrophotography https://www.instagram.com/p/BvPIlpZhit7/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=r52rity6wjx6

Is #time travel possible? Albert #Einstein developed a theory called Special Relativity. The ideas of Special Relativity are very hard to imagine because they aren't about what we experience in everyday life, but scientists have confirmed them. This theory says that space and time are really aspects of the same thing—space-time. There's a speed limit of 300,000 kilometers per second for anything that travels through space-time, and light always travels the speed limit through empty space. . Special Relativity also says that a surprising thing happens when you move through space-time, especially when your speed relative to other objects is close to the speed of light. Time goes slower for you than for the people you left behind. You won't notice this effect until you return to those stationary people. . Say you were 15 years old when you left Earth in a spacecraft traveling at about 99.5% of the speed of light (which is much faster than we can achieve now), and celebrated only five birthdays during your space voyage. When you get home at the age of 20, you would find that all your classmates were 65 years old, retired, and enjoying their grandchildren! Because time passed more slowly for you, you will have experienced only five years of life, while your classmates will have experienced a full 50 years. . Time travel of a sort also occurs for objects in gravitational fields. Einstein had another remarkable theory called General Relativity, which predicts that time passes more slowly for objects in gravitational fields (like here on Earth) than for objects far from such fields. So there are all kinds of space and time distortions near black holes, where the gravity can be very intense. . . . . . .. . #Time #Gravity #timemachine #earth #einstein #scientist #sciencefacts #newton #space #stringtheory #stars #blackhole #blackmatter #universe #cosmos #galaxy #wormhole #relativity #theory #physists #science #mathematics #sciencelove #clock #spacetime #starship #engineer #physics https://www.instagram.com/p/BvMfpfjhvw1/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=wfpg4jyjhfpo

How do we measure the distance between #Earth , #planets and #stars ? . . Planets look like pinpoints of light to our unaided eyes, and we can't simply look up at the sky and tell how far they are from Earth or from each other, or even see that Earth and the other planets actually revolve around the Sun. But astronomers have come up with some brilliant ways to discover their distances. . One of the first people to make a good measurement of the distance to a planet was the great astronomer Gian Domenico Cassini. In 1672, Cassini used a technique called parallax to measure the distance to Mars. . Although he didn't get quite the right answers, Cassini's results were very close to the correct values. . Astronomers can use parallax to find distances to objects much farther even than planets. To calculate the distance to a star, astronomers observe it from different places along Earth's orbit around the Sun. . Now astronomers have technologies to measure distances to other planets more directly. When we have a spacecraft at another planet, we know the time it takes a radio signal to travel between Earth and the spacecraft. . . We can also send a powerful radar signal toward a planet and time how long it takes for the echo to return. Astronomers know how fast these signals travel, so measuring how long they take makes it easy to calculate the distance very accurately. . . . . . #parallax #star #stars #sun #earth #planet #planets #moon #satellite #jupiter #astronomer #astrophysics #astrophotography #physists #physics #cassini #voyager #spacecraft #rocket #rocketscience #sciencefacts #thesciencecommunity #sciencecommunity #nasa #esa #isro #jaxa #cnsa #spacex #starship https://www.instagram.com/p/BvHSAhphWfj/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=5qycea321eyd

#NASA to Study Untouched #Moon Samples From #Apollo Missions . NASA has selected nine teams to study untouched samples collected from the Moon by the Apollo missions in the 1970s and carefully stored for nearly 50 years. A total of $8 million has been awarded to the teams. "By studying these precious lunar samples for the first time, a new generation of scientists will help advance our understanding of our lunar neighbour and prepare for the next era of exploration of the Moon and beyond," . The samples these teams will study were brought to Earth vacuum-sealed from the Moon by Apollo 17 astronauts Harrison Schmitt and Gene Cernan in 1972. . It was carefully stored at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, since December 1972. . Returned samples are an investment in the future. These samples were deliberately saved so we can take advantage of today's more advanced and sophisticated technology to answer questions we didn't know we needed to ask. . . . . . . #moon #moonlanding #spacewalk #spacerock #spacecraft #space #spacenews #sciencefacts #science #scientistlife #scientist #sciencecommunity #nasa #apollo #moonlandinghoax #moonlanding #flatearth #flatearthmemes #planets #exploration #timecapsule #spacex #elonmusk #tesla #car #technology #robotics https://www.instagram.com/p/BvERZQhhhHQ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1qk4yaj4yot7p

First Image Ever of a Hydrogen Atom's Orbital Structure . AN ATOM’S electrons are an ever-shifting quantum melee, but now we can take their photographs as if they were standing still. . A quantum-style microscope has imaged the hydrogen atom’s wave function, the equation that determines its electrons’ positions – and in turn the atom’s properties. . Measuring the position of a single electron “collapses” the wave function, forcing it to pick a particular position, but that alone is not representative of its normal, quantum presence in the atom. “Wave functions are difficult to measure. They’re exquisite quantum objects that change their appearance upon observation,” says Aneta Stodolna of the FOM Institute AMOLF in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. . Her team decided to make a picture using a technique dreamed up 30 years ago that can be thought of as a quantum microscope. Rather than taking an image of a single atom, they sampled a bunch of atoms. This removes the quantum nature of each individual atom’s electron, forcing it to choose a particular location from those it is allowed to reside in. Do it with enough atoms and the number choosing each spot will reflect the quantum probabilities laid out by the wave function. . The technique may be used to study larger atoms . “Because of the simplicity of the hydrogen atom, it acts as a benchmark for multi-electron atoms or molecules.” . . . . . #hydrogen #atom #molecules #periodictable #chemistry #chemist #physics #science #scientist #rutherford #atomicbomb #nuclear #energy #sun #sciencefacts #scientificmethod #electronmicroscope #quantummechanics #quantum #subatomic #antman #marvel #stanlee #ironman #endwar #avengers #sciencefiction #photography #electricity #nucleus https://www.instagram.com/p/BvCHsT9hfk9/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=fzpeupg3dhxu

#selfie with #earth An Israeli spacecraft on its mission to the moon has sent its first selfie back to Earth . The image showing part of the Beresheet spacecraft with Earth in the background was beamed to mission control in Yehud, Israel 37,600 kilometres away, . The 585-kilogram craft took off atop a Falcon 9 rocket from the private US-based SpaceX company. The trip is scheduled to last seven weeks, with the Beresheet due to touch down on April 11. . So far, only Russia, the United States and China have made the 384,000-kilometre (239,000-mile) journey and landed on the moon. . After China earlier this year, and now Israel, India hopes to become the fifth lunar country in april with its Chandrayaan-2 mission. It aims to put a craft with a rover onto the moon's surface to collect data. Japan plans to send a small lunar lander, called SLIM, to study a volcanic area around 2020-2021. . . . . . . . #israel #China #india #japan #spaceil #cnsa #csa #jaxa #isro #spacecraft #moonlanding #moonmission #usa #america #nasa #russia #chandrayan #sciencefacts #svientist #sciencememes #sciencearticle #scientificresearch #science #physists #physics #maths https://www.instagram.com/p/BuqIjBVBw__/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=heo5eb3870g3

Nikola Tesla had hundreds of patents registered in his name , yet he never won a Nobel Prize for his lifelong work with electricity. The inventions and discoveries he made over his lifetime, particularly in the late 1800s, are the basis for much of our modern lifestyle. . These are his most famous and influential works. . Rotating Magnetic Field AC Motor (1883) Tesla coil (1890) polyphase alternating currents Radio (1897) . Tesla built on these discoveries and inventions to create the first wireless remote control boat, fluorescent and neon lights (which he did indeed bend into letters), wireless bulbs that were lit by energy from the earth and an AC power plant that harnessed the hydroelectric power of Niagara Falls. He even had a hand in the creation of robotics. His system of delivering power to homes and businesses using AC eclipsed the DC power advocated by his former employer Thomas Edison. (We still receive AC power in our homes today.) In surprising news, #NASA has happily reported that the #world is greener than it was 20 years ago. There are officially more #trees on #earth now than two decades ago - and it's thanks to #India and #China. . The two heavily populated countries have spent recent years energetically working on tree planting programs with great success. In 2017, India broke the world record for the most number of trees planted in a set period of time. . . Collating the data it can be seen that there is an increase in leaf area on plants and trees equivalent to the area covered by all the Amazon rainforests. NASA says there are more than two million square miles of extra green leaf area per year compared to data from the early 2000s . Thanks to the continual work of a special scientific instrument onboard two satellites Called the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer, or MODIS, the instrument provides high-level data on Earth vegetation. MODIS has been collecting info for the last two decades and can provide detail down to the level of 500 meters. . . . . . . #greenenergy #greenearth #green #earth #forest #deforestation #saveocean #saveearth #renewableenergy #reducereuserecycle #solarenergy #elonmusk #mars #planetearth #sciencefacts #science #scientificmethod #scienceresearch #trees #forest #nature #photography #glabalwarming #climatechange #pollution #overpopulation https://www.instagram.com/p/BugHOBfBkHs/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=dfdrtu44fsb0

POTENTIAL ASTEROID WARNING !! . A #dangerous #asteroid measuring more than 1.2 miles in diameter could potentially slam into the #earth on December 2019, #NASA has warned. . The space agency has predicted 31 potential dates between 2019 and 2101, and shockingly, one of the closest approach dates that could bring cataclysm in the planet falls on December 28, 2019. . NASA also revealed that the impact force of this asteroid will be approximately 2,60,000 Megatons.
