Chapter Five of Valora

TALIA was currently ignoring Lex for the stunt he had pulled last night. She knew he had done it on purpose. He had planned that meeting with the guy. Made it seem like the man interrupted their dinner, and then lied about her being deaf and basically some hoe he slept with so she'd play the part

"Come on! Just talk to me.. look I'm sorry.. but you gotta admit.. you felt the sparks fly with that kiss.." Lex said from behind the door. He'd walk in but the door was locked to her room and at the end of the day even if it wasn't locked, he wasn't just gonna barge in unless he thought it was an emergency. "We belong together.. and you know it"

Talia didn't respond which earned a sigh from Lex

"Well, I suppose I should just invite Lana over so I'll have someone to share breakfast with" Lex said knowing this would push her buttons. The door was open in a flash

"You are not inviting over, Lana" Talia said. Lex smirked

"There she is. Missed you sunshine.. so breakfast?" Lex asked. Talia bit her lip as she exhaled loudly

"Whatever" Talia mumbled as she walked past Lex and down to the dining room. Suddenly Talia's phone rang. The caller ID was hidden. Talia cautiously answered it. "Hello?"

"Hello, Talia. It's been a while since we've talked.." Lionel's voice rang from the other side of the phone. Talia froze as the phone slipped out of her hand and onto the ground. It was over. It was game over for her

"Tal.. what's wrong? Who's on the phone..?" Lex asked before he picked it up and brought it to his ear

"Hello, son" Lionel said. Lex almost threw the phone against the wall out of pure anger

"How the fuck did you find out?!" Lex yelled into the phone

"Now, now.. you act like I'm going to harm her.. I'm n-" Lionel was cut off

"Who told you?!" Lex yelled

"You did, son.. growing up with Talia you always had this twinkle in your eyes when she was around. It disappeared after well.. you know.. but I saw it again when I visited you.. I just wanted to let you know that I know.. I'm not going to do anything about it. Live your lives" Lionel said. Lex didn't know what to think before he even realized it Talia was gone. His father ruined everything. He always ruined everything. Lex slammed the phone against the wall completely smashing it

"Fuck!" Lex yelled. He couldn't believe this. But it didn't matter right now. What mattered was finding Talia. He couldn't lose her.. not again.. Unbeknownst to Lex, Talia was in the hiding space he had built just for her. Lionel knew she was alive but he didn't know about this place, right? Talia sat down on the cushioned floor before noticing an old notebook with the words 'Read Me' on it. Talia seemed to push Lionel to the back of her mind as she picked up the journal. She opened it to the first page

If you're reading this, it means I found you Tal. I started writing in this about a week after you disappeared. My father said you had gotten sick due to the lead and he was trying to help you. For some reason I believed him at the time. He told me you were going to die, but I don't think that was true. He won't talk about you anymore. It's like you never lived with us.. as if you were never apart of our lives and I hate it. I don't know when you'll read this or even if you will but hopefully I was the one who did find you. It's time I paid you back for saving my life all those years ago♡

Talia couldn't believe it. Lex was a romantic, sure.. but he had left her a journal? Her mind was completely taken with the idea of this. She turned the page and continued reading

I was reading a book today. There was a quote within that reminded me of how I felt for you. "I fell in love with you the way ink spills; suddenly, all at once, and with permanent consequence". Cheesy I know.. but I miss you.. I miss your laugh.. I've always loved your laugh, you know.. I wouldn't mind if it was the only thing I heard for the rest of my life. It's my fault you're gone.. that stupid box.. I'm gonna get rid of it, I swear.. it's just some stupid present from my mom.. it doesn't mean anything compared to you and I'm sorry I hurt you.. though I doubt you'll forgive me

Talia flipped through a bunch of pages before landing on this one

I found another quote. I think this one really shows how I feel about you. Tell me what you think. "I long for our souls to be so deeply intertwined, that Death himself would weep when faced with the thought of separating us." My father got rid of any photos I had of you.. I hope I find you soon. I don't think I could take it if I started to forget how you looked. How you sounded. How you felt.. will my memories of us be tainted with time? Come back to me please..

Talia flipped through the book again

Are you even alive, Tal? Is there a reason for writing these notes for you if you may never even read them..? Are you upset with me? Maybe you've escaped my father and entered the world again.. are you staying away because you're upset? I don't blame you.. its my fault.. its all my fault.. you were the only person who saw me as someone worth loving and look what I did to you! I allowed you to be hurt by my own father.. and yet I still can't do anything. Why couldn't it be me?! I'd do anything to see you again. Please.. I can't live like this anymore.. it's lonely without you.. you're my home..

Talia was starting to get towards the end of the book. She was skipping many pages but it was clear she could see how his mental health seemed to deteriorate as the journal went on

Why do I continue writing? It's been 4 years.. you're probably dead.. its my father's fault.. I've been going around sleeping with other people trying to feel a connection yet it doesn't fulfill me. It just makes me feel guilty. No one can love me the way you did. I can't love anyone the way I love you.. Would you hate me if I killed my father? Everytime I see him, I think of you and all I want to do is just take my hands and ring them around the man's throat yet I don't. He knows where you are if you're even alive.. I won't risk the chance to save you.. one day I'll get revenge for you. I promise, my love

Talia flipped to the last page but it was ripped out. She had tears falling down her face either her even knowing

"What do you think..?" Lex's voice rang out. He was beyond relieved to see she was still here

"You thought of me all these years" Talia said. Lex sat down beside her and gently wiped her tears away

"I never forgot about you.. sometimes I wish I had while you were gone but you never did.. always looming in my mind" Lex said. Talia then pointed to the missing page. "Oh, that one was a really rough entry. I wrote it right before I got a lead on you.. I was in a really dark place.. mentally.. was thinking of doing some bad things.. life just didn't feel worth living with how empty I felt without you, you know? I- Anyway.. I'm just glad you're still here"

Talia stared at the blue eyed man who was currently caressing her tear stained cheeks

"I thought about it.. I was gonna leave.. but I couldn't.. I couldn't.. I didn't want to be without you again.. you win Lex.. you have successfully lured me in and caught me.." Talia said softly. Lex grinned as he leaned in. His eyes trailing down to her lips

"You're right.. I do win.." Lex said barely above a whisper. Talia's eyes trailed to his lips before he was the one to make the first move. He leaned in and kissed her. This was different from last night. Last night had been a hit.. but this was like the entire joint. Talia's hands moved to Lex's face, cupping his cheeks while they passionately reunited their lips. The unfinished feeling both of them felt during the other's absence made them feel whole again. There was no emptiness. Everything was right, once again. Lex thought of Kafka. The way he felt in this moment. A quote rang to him. "I can't think of any greater happiness than to be with you all the time, without interruption, endlessly"

"Are you quoting Kafka..?" Talia asked in between kisses

"It's how I feel about you. If I was forced to put it into words. That's what I would say.." Lex said as he laid her down gently against the cushioned floor

"How do I compare to that..? I don't have such romantic quotes on standby.." Talia spoke softly as Lex laid beside her. One of his hands trailing down to her waist. This was soft, and romantic. Usually at this point in a romance film, this wouldn't be happening. The guy would be ontop of the girl as they undressed one another but Lex had always been different. Their lips broke apart and Lex just pulled her into his chest. She wrapped her arms around him and they just laid there

"What you fail to say verbally.. you show physically.." Lex said barely above a whisper. "Do you think we could make it work..? Despite everything.. I'm not the man you fell in love with when we were young.. I've done a lot of bad things since then.."

"I don't care what you once did.. maybe I don't know the whole new you.. but I do know that you love me.. and that's enough" Talia whispered back as she snuggled into his chest. Perhaps this was the start of a new beginning for them

TALIA and Lex were dating at least she thinks they are. She's unsure of how Lex thinks of it but it's clear they're something as they walk into the Talon holding hands. They saw Lana and her eyes shifted from the pamphlet she was reading to their connected hands. Lana's eyes lit up

"Are you- oh my God! Congrats!" Lana said with a wide smile. Lex rolled his eyes as he watched Talia sit beside the younger brunette. No doubt about to start talking about things he couldn't understand. He truly believed he was well adept at understanding the species known as women but sometimes he just couldn't quite process what the hell was going on

"So, what's this..? Going to a museum?" Talia asked

"Me and Whitney are going together. He thought of it.. its really cute.. im so excited" Lana said with a sparkle in her eyes

"Me and Lex went when we were younger, it's so cool. You'll love it" Talia said

"So, you and Lex.. things are heating up..?" Lana teased

"Nothing like that.. but we did cuddle a bunch yesterday.. it was nice" Talia said with a look of pure happiness on her face. Lana was happy for the girl

"You guys seem perfect for one another. I love that for you" Lana said as Whitney approached. Talia turned to see the blonde smiling before he kissed Lana's cheek

"So this is the infamous Whitney" Talia said

"You are Talia.. I presume.. Lana talks about you quite a bit.." He said

"That's me" Talia said with a smile. Whitney held his hand out for her to shake. She shook his hand

"It's nice to meet you" He said with a smile

"It's nice to meet you too.. I heard about the date you're taking Ms. Lang on.. good pick" Talia said. Whitney's face flashed with confusion. Lana had a look of slight hurt on her face

"Metropolis, remember?" Lana asked. Whitney's face fell in guilt

"Oh. Actually some of the guys are pulling together and getting the fight on pay-per-view. It's tomorrow" Whitney said. Talia frowned watching the excitement fade from Lana

"And you gave them your money already?" Lana asked

"Yeah" Whitney said before he leaned in closer. "Hey, we'll go next weekend, okay? I promise. I'm really sorry, Lana"

"Culture can wait" Lana said with a fake smile as she stared at Whitney

"I'll make it up to you" Whitney said before kissing her forehead and then walking off. Talia could see the dejection on Lana's face

"Why don't we do something fun? You could hang out at our house. Lex has lots of cool things we can do" Talia said with a bright smile. Lex turned around from where he was sitting

"Sorry, but we're busy tonight. I've got something special planned for you" Lex said. Talia knew immediately he was lying which made her raise an eyebrow

"Thanks, anyway. I appreciate the gesture" Lana said as Lex got up and walked out of the store. "You're lucky. A guy who actually plans things for you"

"Lex despite looks has always been a romantic. Sometimes it's even too much for me. He wanted to have an anniversary every week when we first started dating in high school. Said that every day we were together should be celebrated" Talia said

"Okay, so he's over the top, got it! Guess I shouldn't be surprised considering he's Lex Luthor" Lana giggled

"You'll find a guy who's just like that.. maybe not just like that but someone who's tailored to fit your needs" Talia said

"You really think so?" Lana asked as she looked up at Talia. Talia nodded in response earning a smile from Lana. Clark entered the Talon and approached the two brunettes. He had tickets in his hands. There it was. Lex that little scheming bastard

"Hey, Lana, you busy?" Clark asked

"Completely swamped. That's why I'm sitting in a coffee shop gossiping with Talia" Lana said

"We were not gossiping. Just talking about love" Talia hummed. Clark looked so nervous. It was cute. Talia felt like a parent watching a baby bird try to fly for the first time. He was gonna ask Lana out

"Well, there's this thing tomorrow night" Clark said as he sat down. Talia covered her mouth to hide the grin on her face

"Define thing" Lana said

"It's a concert. Radiohead, to be exact. And I've got a couple of tickets" Clark said holding them out. Talia looked at the tickets before she looked out the window to see Lex there with a shit eating grin. She wanted to go see radiohead. She pulled out her new phone, since Lex had broken the previous one

Did you seriously buy those tickets for us and then give it to Clark so he could woo Lana?!

Sorry, sweetheart.. but I'm just being a good wing man. I'll make it up to you. You know I will ;)

Ew stop

"Where did you get these?" Lana asked

"A friend, something came up at the last minute and I was wondering if you'd like to go you know, with me?" Clark asked. Lana stared at him shocked

"I'd-" Lana was cut off

"Just as friends" Clark said and Talia couldn't help but cringe. Not the friend card

"Definitely. I'd love to" Lana said which earned a wide smile from the farm boy Clark

"I can't believe you lied about us having plans so you could help Clark score a 'date' with Lana" Talia said

"What can I say? Love is in the air. It's only fair I help it blossom between other people" Lex said with a wink

"Yeah, between sweet little farm boy and Ms. Lana taken Lang. How do you think Whitney will feel? Don't ruin her relationship" Talia said

"I'm not. Just helping to guide her towards the right guy. I mean she can seriously do better than Whitney.. I heard him canceling on her. Why do you think I sprang into action?" Lex asked

"You're such a good friend.." Talia said sarcastically. Lex approached her from behind and wrapped his arms around her. His face in the crook of her neck

"If this is you being jealous there's no need to be. Your wish is my command. All you have to do is ask" Lex hummed against her neck before leaving a gentle kiss upon her skin

"Your tricks to seduce me won't work" Talia hummed

"This is not me seducing you.. trust me if I was trying to seduce you.. I wouldn't fail" Lex said before he kissed her cheek and pulled away. "I've got that meeting tonight. You'll be my date, won't you? I could use the support considering you'll probably be the only person in that room who actually likes me"

Talia laughed as she shook her head

"Of course I'll be there. Considering you said we had plans and that's why I couldn't hang with Lana" Talia said

"LEX is this outfit good enough?" Talia asked as she walked into his office. He looked up at her

"Anything you wear is good enough" Lex said. Talia groaned

"That is not what I wanted to hear" Talia said. Lex chuckled

"Yes, its perfect" Lex said right before the doors opened. The Kents walked in

"Talia.. I never thanked you for saving me" Martha said

"You know her?" Jonathan asked

"When that look a like was pretending to be Clark and tried to run me over she saved me. Pulled me out of the way just in time" Martha said

"That doesn't shock me. I know how to pick them. Welcome. I'm glad you decided to come" Lex said

"Your house is very.." Martha trailed off

"Large?" Lex asked

"To put it mildly" Jonathan said

"The word restraint doesn't exist in my father's vocabulary" Lex said

"I-I'm sorry, are-are we early?" Martha asked. Lex had this little smirk on his face which made Talia internally face palm

"I think we should go" Jonathan said

"Wait-Wait, Jonathan, just because no one else came-" Martha was cut off

"That's if anyone else was even invited" Jonathan said

"Oh, I don't think Lex would-" Martha was cut off again

"Actually I would. I did. But only because I knew you wouldn't have come otherwise. I know your farm's in trouble, Mr. Kent. Small town" Lex said

"So you thought you would just take advantage of my family's problem" Jonathan said

"That's not what's going on here" Talia said

"As she said. I thought I could help" Lex said. Jonathan looked at his wife before sighing

"Well, then I guess we're here to listen" Jonathan said which earned a smile from Lex. Talia's phone rang. It was Lana. Wasn't she supposed to be out with Clark?

"You guys go ahead. I need to take this" Talia said before leaving the room. Talia answered the phone. "Hey"

"Clark just ditched me.. he told me to wait for him.." Lana said

"He ditched you? Why would he do that?" Talia asked

"I have no idea. Things were going well then we saw Sean on the news because his girlfriend mysteriously died and then he got all weird and left.." Lana said. Talia didnt respond. "Right you don't know who Sean is.. um a guy at our school"

"Do you want me to come get you?" Talia asked

"No, I'm just gonna wait since he asked.." Lana said

"Hopefully everything works out" Talia said

"I hope so too. I'm gonna go. Bye" Lana said before hanging up. Talia walked back into Lex's office only for the power to go out

"Let me light some candles" Talia said as she walked effortlessly through the dark. However before she could the power turned back on

"Guess the generator works. Power must have blown. Where were we?" Lex asked

"I believe you were explaining how you could uh, single-handedly save the family farm" Jonathan said

"Jonathan" Martha said softly

"It's okay, Mrs. Kent. I understand your husband's skepticism. Your farm's drowning in debt, we both know it. All I'm trying to do is offer you a hand but you keep slapping it away" Lex said

"Your farm's in debt..? Lex I could help them do work. I'll work for free. I don't have anything to do during the day anyway.." Talia said. Lex gave her a look like she was insane. He pulled her to the side

"What the hell are you doing..?" Lex whispered. The two were earning suspicious looks from the Kents

"If you want them to trust you, you need to make yourself vulnerable. To them you are a rich man with no weaknesses. Considering your father has screwed them over in the past, of course they're not gonna trust you" Talia whispered back

"So you think exposing yourself is okay? What if they tell someone?" Lex whispered

"I don't think they will. I saved Martha's life remember?" Talia whispered

"What are you two whispering about?" Jonathan asked. Lex gave her a look but ultimately resigned as she could make her own decisions and if this is what she wanted to do he wouldn't stop her

"You guys don't want to trust Lex, and you're valid for that. If I were in your position I'd feel the same way. There is a clear power indifference between you guys and him, so let me shift it more favorably. The reason why Clark wasn't injured that day on the bridge was because I pushed him out of the way. I took the hit of the car, it didn't do anything to me because I'm not human. However I'm allergic to lead. While I saved Clark's life.. he saved mine and Lex's.. when I fell into the water.. there was trace amounts of lead. It left me weak. Clark saved us.. and for that I'm in your debt. I'm alive thanks to Clark. And you probably think I'm crazy, so let me show you some proof" Talia said before she allowed her feet to lift off the ground. She was floating. Martha and Jonathan stared at her with wide eyes as her feet met the ground once more

"If you still decline, I'll understand. I just ask that you don't tell anyone about her, please. She's everything to me" Lex said. He was showing true vulnerability to the Kents and they saw that

"That's how you reacted so quickly to the truck" Martha said. Talia nodded. Martha began to think over Lex's proposal. "So you would give us the latest farming equipment and technology"

"All in exchange for our independence" Jonathan said

"My influence will be minimal but existing, yes. It's a partnership" Lex said

"We could get a loan" Jonathan said

"Or you can allow me to help you get to the point where you never need someone like me again" Lex said

"I'll admit, it looks generous" Martha said

"It is" Lex replied

"Which begs the question what does Lex Luthor get out of all of this?" Jonathan asked

"I believe there's profit to be made. I'm not exactly in the charity business" Lex said

"Like father like son" Jonathan said which sent a wave of anger through Talia. It wasn't the fact that Lex was being insulted. She was fine with that. But to compare him to that vile man was disgraceful. She accidentally made the fireplace flames burn a little too much causing a boom before she realized what happened and used her freeze breath to relax it

"Sorry.." Talia said

"Take some time to think about it. I'm sure you'll see the benefits outweigh your other options. To the future" Lex said. The door opened and in came Lana and Whitney. They were injured

"Lana!" Talia said as she rushed over in humanly fashion

"She's okay" Whitney said

"Where's Clark?" Martha asked. Lana and Whitney explained what happened and Talia gave Lex a look before walking out. Nobody was going to hurt the people she cared about

"Where is she going?" Lana asked

"She'll be back" Lex said. Talia used her hearing to focus on the sounds of someone walking through the grass. She sped over. A man was approaching the generator

"Now what do we have here..?" Talia asked as she approached. Sean began approaching her. "I'm not sure what you can do.. but I suggest you leave before you get hurt"

"I'm not scared of you" Sean said. Talia used her x-ray vision and saw the Kryptonite within him

"You're human which means I can kill you. See unlike you, I'm not from Earth, which means I'm a lot stronger. See, I know I should probably use my powers for good be a good person.. but I'm flawed. I guess that makes me human. See, I'm selfish. Very selfish. I only care when it affects me or the people I care about. You've made that fatal flaw of not only hurting Lana but entering my house on my turf where the man I love lives. See, now I have to do a very bad thing. Look what you're gonna make me do" Talia said before she began using her heat vision trying to burn him alive, yet it wasnt working. He was absorbing it. Talia jumped back. She needed to reassess

"That felt good. Give me more" Sean said as he approached

"Perhaps I'll turn the temperature down" Talia said before she used her freeze breath. Sean began shivering as he become more icy than usual. Talia then grabbed him by the shirt and flew him away and towards a nearby lake."You really should've just turned around"

"No please.. I just want to be warm.." Sean breathed out

"Don't care" Talia said as she was currently above a lake before she dropped him. She watched as he fell down before splashing into the water. The water turned to ice as he fell within. Talia had no remorse in her eyes as she stared at the now frozen man. She flew back to the mansion and went back inside. "Don't worry. I think he's gone"
