Height

As an 18-year-old girl who is barely 5', I'm often told to grow taller and exercise more. I'm told that if I don't grow taller, people won't take me seriously or I won't find a husband or that no one will like me. They tell me that they're saying this for "my own good" but what good have they, themselves ever done?

Judge me all you want but I'm done. I'm tired of hating on myself for being short, for not being tall enough. I don't hate my growth or the lack of it, whatever you call it. I like who I am, I like my image. I don't WANT to fit someone else's standard of perfection and I most definitely don't want to push my self-esteem down because of someone's words. I'm fine just the way I am. I haven't settled for my height, I've embraced it.

I don't hate on taller people and I wouldn't hate myself if I was even slightly shorter or taller. There's nothing wrong with being tall or as society calls it, too tall.

All I want to do is love myself and who I am right now. I want to be able to love myself in the future, even if I grow taller or shorter, regardless of my height then. I hope those who point at me and laugh will learn to do the same. I've chosen to love the person I am, I hope you will too.

A knock on the door of Inspiration

I was down to eat my lunch and stuff my face with food in the living room when I switched on the television and thank God I did!

While watching the Grammy's for a few fifteen-twenty minutes, I was inspired by the voice of Brandi Carlile as she sang The Joke, a piece of music that struck my heart. Brilliant and with immeasurable talent, she sang her heart out in lyrics that went right past all my walls and shook my heart.

"I've been to the movies, I've seen how it ends. And the Joke's on them..." Her voice broke open the skies, shattered every cloud and made it rain feelings. She sang and our hearts cried.

Late to the party as I may be but I feel grateful to have found her music, her voice. It is as if inspiration has knocked on my door and I had the opportunity to hold it open.
