Oh, yes! He absolutely regrets it! That's what the AU aims to explore!

I don't think I'll elaborate much on what exactly happened during the Tails vs Metal fight, but the basics are that Metal jumped him in his workshop, and that the only reason things got so messy was that Tails put up a HELL of a fight. It's so, so important to me that Tails is treated as the competent fighter that he is, even if he does lose this specific confrontation.

Not Quite his Twin

Danny Fenton is not Danyal al Ghul. They’d wanted him to be, but he wasn’t.

He still remembers when he first woke up, his whole body feeling raw and ill-fitted. Even his mind felt wrong, his memories not quite his own.

Which, he supposes, they weren’t.

Because Danyal is still dead. Executed on the orders of the Demon’s Head for failing to live up to his twin.

But the spurned heir would make a perfect figurehead to build legitimacy for a coup, so a splinter sect of the League stole away some of his remains before they could be disposed of. They may not have had permission to access the Lazarus Pits, but they could still turn to some more unorthodox methods of attempting resurrection. A combination of cloning, a few stolen and processed samples of Lazarus Water, and pieces of necromantic rituals.

And it almost worked.

Almost.

The body they constructed did indeed come to life, and clearly possessed at least some of Danyal’s memories, but it wasn’t him. The memories were locked behind a barrier, present in abstract but not felt. This thing they created could never pass for the deceased heir, and thus could never be the figurehead they wanted. So they decided to dispose of him.

But the clone’s memories had shown him this sort of betrayal before, and he did still have some of the original’s skills. He struck first, killing several of their agents and managing to escape the lab.

He had no idea what to do next, but at least he was free. Free to form his own life, to become someone unique rather than just not-quite-Danyal.

#also a few more ideas/notes:#1. i was originally planning on having Maddie be one of the League scientists who’d start to care for him and then help him escape #(in fact， the “processed lazarus water” thing is actually a leftover from that)#and though i ultimately didn’t explicitly include her in the post itself， it very much could still be a thing!#or maybe she was an outsider whom the group nevertheless worked with， which somehow leads to danny tracking her down (and getting adopted)#2. it could be interesting to have Danny meet the ghost of the original Danyal #it might be vindicating for Danny’s self identity， but it might also be really uncomfortable because it’s seeing what he was “meant” to be #(or like that “what if you were the evil clone and saw another version of yourself that was so much brighter?” post)#3. obviously the implication is that Damian would eventually find Danny somehow and assume that he’s Danyal and that he surivived somehow #not quite sure how the resulting conversation would go but it’d definitely be awkward/uncomfortable #(Damian wanting desperately for Danny to be Danyal and thus making him really uncomfortable)#(and if Danny does convince him， Damian might become subconsciously resentful of him for being alive “instead of” Danyal)#dp x dc #dpxdc #dc x dp #dcxdp #danny phantom x dc #danny phantom x dc crossover #dp x dc prompt #dpxdc prompt #dc x dp prompt #dcxdp prompt #demon twins au #but Danyal al Ghul is genuinely dead #danny is a clone of danyal al ghul #clone danny fenton #and like specifically *not* a perfect clone. he has the memories but they’re noticeably distinct. he knows he isn’t the original.#e.g. he knows damian is his brother and knows how danyal felt about him but Danny himself doesn’t *feel* those emotions

Pictured: Loop being extremely normal as they lay in their shallow (homemade) grave as they meditate on existence and also if they have annoyed the Researcher enough THIS time for her to murder them and bury them alive.

(Spoilers - they did not annoy her even CLOSE to that much.)

And there is the required reverse image of Odile arriving - she's had a LONG day (i.e. previous loop), and due to this it will take ten minutes before she even acknowledges the shallow grave Loop is laying in, as she was distracted complaining about what Siffrin just did to annoy her.

I'd say there's context for all of that, because like...there IS context? Here's the link to the series of fics that HAS that context even! But also...even with context...can't say that it's going to make any of this less weird.

Mostly Odile is looping because due to Loop's wish the universe got rewritten to make Siffrin's repression and emotional issues (the ones bad enough to get him stuck in a time loop in the game) 'someone else's' problem...or at least that's Loop's best theory atm!

Regardless, context or not, I'm quite happy with how the pics came out, and figured I might as well post them here too.

And inevitably end up with a story that, for me (and I’ll only speak for my own experience here), forces me to think deeply about the world around us and life in general. I’m kind of dooming my AUs into that every time because I have this imaginary rule to make every storyline .uh. unique? Like if I already have “a human who randomly befriended a mer” then all other characters has to be something entirely different. So I end up starting to dig out references and experimenting with contrasting concepts and genres. And usually it leads to everyone crying because nothing makes such a contrast with simple fun as complicated suffering heh?

#the apocalyptic au is kinda new #but if you look at mecha au you will instantly see what I’m talking about #this is also why it’s so hard to convince me to add a lot of characters in those stories #at least at once #I can’t just say ‘yeah there’s also dratchet’ for example #because I need to give both drift and ratchet something unique before I add them to the story #I can’t just go ‘human and mer started to hang out’#because Swerve and Blurr already got that spot #it might be annoying I just realised #for all the people asking who would character X be in the au #but it’s just how my brain works #I’m kinda favoring the asks that add something new to the concept itself over the ones that are like ‘please add megatron’#i dunno #I don’t think the story needs more characters. I think it needs more fucked up layers of moral dilemmas haha

My favorite Arcane character is and forever shall be Ekko (best boy). Other faves are Viktor (chronic illness baby) and Jinx (trauma gremlin).

As for the S1 scene... Besides the finale and that breathtaking Guns for Hire sequence? The Ekko/Jinx fight from ep 7. It broke me. (And turned me into a Timebomb shipper. Which was arguably worse.)

Pariah stares down his muzzle at the scrap of a ghostling hissing up at him, still waking up from an eternity of sleep. Something he honestly hadn’t expected to awaken from any time soon, even if it had been several thousands of years.

But that was not important at the moment. No, what was concerning him was the fact that there was a ghostling, practically a fetus really, with itty bitty fangs bared and tiny wings puffed up in an obvious attempt to make themself look bigger.

Not to mention the fact another ghostling tried to attack him from behind the moment he leaned down to get a better look. Which meant moving very carefully to not accidentally crush said ghostling while dislodging them from the spikes across his spine.

Ugh, he’d just woken up, why was there a pair of ghostlings in front of his prison? Where was whoever had decided to free him? …

…

Please don’t tell him that the sarcophagus was opened by a pair of ghostlings that shouldn’t even be out of their caretaker’s nest yet. Alright. How did they even get- Why is his Keep in this location? Where is, ah, there Fright Knight is.

Please do tell him you at least know what’s going on, because while feeling quite better than before his mandated nap, he’s also not up for active conquering or anything close at the moment. Actually he still feels exhausted and- would you stop trying to bite him tiny ghostlings-

Oh Realms, why are there two hatchlings this sick?! One had one of the worst infections he’s ever seen, and he became an adult in the middle of the Zone’s warring days! The other- dear Flame, what is he even looking at?! Why are their cores like that?! What in the Realms’ Name has happened while he was imprisoned that there are ghostlings with cores looking like that?

No no no, he has eternity to continue conquering if he wishes to attempt that again, but he has to fix this immediately. If there is something wrong with the Nesting sites where ghostlings arrive and form to the realms then there is something very wrong.

Why is there a literal tear in the Zone?! Ow, stop trying to bite him you tiny ghostlings, he’s not setting either of you down until he can figure out how to deal with this and get you medical care! Heroes and civilians alike are very concerned about the multitude of literal dragons suddenly going all across the midwest and would really like answers now. Perhaps also answers as to why several government buildings have been (seemingly accidentally… maybe) wrecked? Maybe? Please?

john getting a human form but being constantly overstimulated by EVERYTHING from gravity to streetlights to the feeling of having a whole body and not just two limbs and a pair of eyes to the point where being touched feels overwhelming but the constant need to be close to arthur at all times is always there in the back of his mind.

so john will end up always near arthur, almost close enough for them to touch, but not quite.
