Okay I'm riled up about this rn so time for a history of economics lesson (rant) from me, a stranger on the internet

I'm a communist, I hate capitlism, so lemme just put that out there. But capitlism had its moments. Even marx had some praise for parts of capitlism.

And by far the most successful form of capitlism was Keynesian economics, as evident by the enormous increase in living standards in those countries which adopted it between the 1930s and 1970s.

What's Keynesian economics? The idea that capitlism can't survive on its own, and must be supported by government spending at the poorest ends of society and taxes at the richest ends of society (essentially the opposite of trickle down economics) as well as strong regulations on certain industries like banking.

It basically started in 1936 with President Roosevelt who was a personal friend of John Keynes (who the theory is named after).

Roosevelt implemented Keynesian economics to great effect; he raised the top tax rate to 94% (he actually wanted a 100% tax rate on the highest incomes, essentially creating a maximum wage, but the senate negotiated down to 94%) and similarly high corporate tax rates, he created the first ever minimum wage, created the first ever unemployment benefit, created social security in America, pension funds, and increased public spending on things like public utilities and infrastructure, national parks, etc. Which created about 15 million public sector jobs.

This ended the great depression and eventually lead to America winning world War 2, after which many countries followed suit in implementing similar policies, including UK, Australia, and NZ (apologies for the anglosphere-centric list here but they're the countries I'm personally most familiar with so bare with me)

Over the next 40 years these countries had unprecedented growth in living standards and incomes, and either decreasing or stable wealth inequality, and housing prices increasing in line with inflation. Virtually every household bought a car and a TV, rates of higher education increased dramatically, america put a man on the moon, and so on.

Then it all abruptly ended in the 80s and the answer is plain and obvious. 1979 thatcher became UK prime minister. 1981 reagan became US president. 1983 the wage accords were signed in aus. 1984 was the start of rogernomics in NZ (Someone link that Twitter thread of the guy who posts graphs of economic trends and points out where reagan became president)

(Also worth noting those last two in NZ and Aus were both implemented by 'left' leaning governments, but they are both heavily associated with right wing policies.)

This marked the beginning of trickle down economics: tax cuts, privatization of publicly owned assets, reduction in public spending, and deregulation of the finance sector. The top tax rates are down to the low 30s in most of these countries, down from the 80s/90s it was prior. Now THATS a tax cut.

And what happened next?

Wages stagnated. Housing prices skyrocketed. Bankers got away with gambling on the economy. Public infrastruce and utilies degraded. And wealth inequality now exceeds France in 1791.

I don't know how anyone can deny the evidence if they see it, but there's so much propaganda and false information that a lot of people just don't see the evidence.

Literally all the evidence supports going back to Keynesian economics but now that the rich have accumulated so much wealth it's virtually impossible to democratically dethrone them when they have most of the politicians on both the right and the left in their pocket.

Unfortunately it was the great depression and ww2 that gave politicians the political power to implement these policies the first time around. Some thought the 2008 crash would spur movement back towards Keynesianism (which it actually did in Iceland, congrats to them), I hoped covid would force governments to now, but nope.

All these recent crises' seem to have just pushed politics further and further right, with more austerity and tax cuts.

I don't really have a message or statement to end on other than shits fucked yo.

Referencing this post where someone pointed out that MK could theoretically create a Stone Egg + the sequel that pointed out that he'd most likely do it on accident.

I could see this most likely happening in the Canon! verse since I bet the other au MK's would be more wary of Stone Egg mishaps. But I could 100% see it happening in the SlowBoiled au since that causes more drama.

And as much as I love the idea of MK becoming *ahem* egg'd as the result of a bad guy's plans or a huge catarosphe, I think it would fit more if MK did it completely on accident.

So the idea:

Post S3 MK decides that he needs some "Me time" and takes a break from work and training after the whole "Saving the world from a bone demon"-thing. He just needs some time to shut off completely from his responsibilities in the city. His friends understand and wish him well, even though they're worried since MK won't tell him *Where* he's taking a break to.

"Where" turns out to be a cool cave-let MK found while exploring FFM during S2 with no Monkey King to hover over him. Its quiet, it's secluded, its completely off-grid... But MK just can't relax. His brain is all busy, and everytime he sleeps he sees Her.

So he starts painting. And drawing. And using charcoal. Maybe a little rough pottery with the muddy clay-like stuff in the water? And soon enough he's looking like his Artist Clone with how caked in material he is.

In liu of going to sleep and risking terrible bone demon nightmares, MK meditates like how he saw the Monkey King do. In these moments his thoughts wander into deep, dark teritory. Real "call of the void"-type of thoughts.... hey should he eat something? It's been... oh gosh Pigsy's gonna killl him if he doesn't at least text to tell him how his sabbatical is going.

After his inpromtu vacation is up, MK feels... really gross? Maybe thats cus he hasn't really washed or slept or ate, or spoken to anyone in all that time. Weird.

Pigsy asks him how long it's been since MK last ate a full meal, and huffs with disappointment at his nervous laugh before pouring his son a bowl of noodles.

Bouts of nausea and dizziness follow MK everywhere afterwards. He had no idea why - paint fumes maybe? Did some toxic chemical seep into his skin? Did he get sick somehow from isolating himself in that cave? Is that Jin and Yin trying to take over the city?

At somepoint in the utter chaos of S4 likely as the rest of the gang are recieving training from Subodhi; a certain alchemist meets MK to whisper a few questions into his ear.

Lao Tzu: "I was told that you've been experiencing extreme power fluctuations for the last few weeks. May I run a few test to rule out any abnormalities?"

MK: "Oh cool, no probs! Just don't put me in that furnace thing-y."

(*a few tests later*)

Lao Tzu: "Ok great news, it's not a curse or medical problem."

MK: "Phew! Then why is my body feels like its "glitching" all the time?"

Lao Tzu: "Thats a decaying glamour spell. Its likely that you had one affixed to you shortly before you were given up by your creators."

MK: "Glamour spell...? Wait, then what about my powers wigging out?"

Lao Tzu: "Oh thats easy. You're just pregnant."

MK (has not Done the Do): "What!?"

Mere seconds after Lao Tzu gives the diagnosis - MK just starts bawling.

He doesn't want this! Not now! He does want to have kid while all This is going on! The world might be ending for Buddha's sake!

MK is having a million panic attacks rn. He wants to have kids, so many, but only in the *Future*! When he's like semi-retired and has a protege of his own to take over the monkey business- HEY WAIT, HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?!?!

Subodhi has to drop the big lore that MK is a Stone Monkey - capable of reproducing asexually under extreme circumstances, in order to clear up the whole immaculate conception part.

Then Lao Tzu has to tell MK that the Stone Egg he carries will likely Kill him since he's (mostly) mortal.

MK starts crying before deciding to tackle the issue Later.

Ofc MK simply doesn't want his family to worry about him what with all this Brotherhood stuff going on... so he just keeps quiet for now.

His family are going to find out soon though. And by Guanyin, Pigsy is gonna freak.

Macaque (and later Wukong), just need to sniff MK once after they reunite to notice whats up.

Wukong offers to grab some No-Baby Spring Water immediately if MK doesnt want to keep the Egg. Macaque briefly panics thinking that the kid got knocked up the old-fashioned way... only to panic harder when he and Wukong determine it to be a Solo-Made Stone Egg(!!!). Cue two panicking fellow Stone Monkeys making MK feel even worse about his conflicted feelings on the matter.

How To Cosplay On A Budget

As someone who is starting cosplay or has been cosplaying for awhile you’ll notice that it can be an expensive hobby, even the cheapest cosplays can be up to $100 in supplies, but with this list you’ll be able to save a little money on your cosplays!

Closet cosplays

Closet cosplays are cosplays consisting of clothes in your closet, they’re super easy and an interesting way to get into the mind of the character your cosplaying and seeing what they would wear casually, now it’s not as popular as normal cosplays, but if your cosplaying a character that has a lot of costume changes or dresses like you this can be your best bet, with closet cosplays you can add accessories that can tie into the character like colors or something that symbolizes them so people can recognizes you, this is honestly the cheapest way to cosplay and an easy start to cosplay too

2. Buy second-hand

There are many cosplayers that either scrap their cosplays or have old cosplays they would like to sell. You can find second-hand cosplays on etsy, facebook groups, and websites like lumikha, whose sole purpose is selling scrapped or old cosplays! Now I dont have too much experience buying second-hand cosplays, but friends have told me it's a great way to save money. Prices may vary depending on the seller and the make of the cosplay, whether that be handmade or bought previously, so I would keep that in mind.

3. Borrowing cosplays from friends

If you have friends who cosplay as well, you can ask them if it would be ok to borrow their cosplays. If they say yes, congrats, you have a cosplay! Just keep in mind that it's borrowed, so it might not fit well and take good care of it.

4. Recycling old cosplays

Now if you have older cosplays that you dont wear anymore you can totally recycle it into something else, if two characters have a similar style or have the same articale of clothing like a shirt or pants, you can definitely resuse it, cosplay is about being crafty, so working with what you have is all apart of the craft.

5. Thrifting

Thirft stores are going to be your heaven as a cosplayer. I've thrifted so many pieces for my cosplays throughout my cosplay journey. As long as you have a photo of the character, you can find pretty much anything that your character needs, if your character has a specific piece that you can't thrift you can diy a clothing item into it, for example if a character has a vest that has a specific pattern on it you can buy a vest thats the base color and paint on the details, almost every cosplayer does this for every cosplay.

i just started playing acnh (i got a switch lite after years of wanting one :D!) abd im no where near decorating but, do you have any tips for how to lay the groundwork of decoration. I have no clue how to make a pretty island but i really want one so any tips would be appreciated :}

thats def a good question, but honestly the main thing should just be to have fun with it and try to get creative in your own way, especially when you first start playing and everything is new💛 its hard to get items and diy’s fast in this game so patience is key and after a while you can consider trading with others and such if you feel its all too slow!

playing with terraforming and waterscaping is so fun but if you end up finding it hard i would look to the community and get some inspiration before starting a big project! im personally a big fan of moodboards and saving pictures that inspire me to build and decorate, so i recommend that too. doing a color palette with flowers and items is also a great way to structure your decorating and make things look very matchy and intentional!

i did a post a while back with tips for building up your island after flattening everything and i feel like that could also work for this ask -> here!🤍(instead of being tips for after flattening it could be how to structure starting over??)

the acnh community is large! we are here on tumblr ofc but youtube, pinterest and such are all great for gathering info and inspiration too🪴 also everyone with a very build up island has potentially been playing for years now, so take your own time and dont be too self-critical!🤍i 100% did not decorate the way i do now in the early days of playing!! hope you have fun with it!!💛

what are some in general tips you have for a person is not/put together?

Hi love! Congrats on entering this new, exciting chapter of life (and legal adulthood). Here are some of my general tips for living a more put-together life: 

Create Bookend Routines: While most people obsess over morning and night routines, I’ve found the most important rituals to be the ones I do right before and after my biggest tasks of the day. So, for you, this probably will be work or school. Consider how you start your day or prime yourself for these activities (if in the afternoon). Set up a couple of habits that can you in the right headspace – a nice cup of coffee and a hearty, healthy meal, listening to some upbeat music, journaling for 5-30 minutes, and creating a to-do list. Then, create a wind-down routine to signal the end of the productive portion of your day (or at least classes or work instead of small homework assignments or a side hobby). I like to take a long walk while listening great playlist to signal the end of my workday. Also, try adding a relaxing shower, another satisfying meal, and doing some shadow work or reading a book afterward to ease into your evening. 

Decide On Your Current Focus Areas In Life: Pick one or two life arenas that you want to truly focus on at the moment and strategize daily to cultivate habits to work towards your goals in the areas. Make sure to maintain the other areas of your life for balance, but forgive yourself if you don’t put 100% of your desired effort into these areas for a season or two of your life. Priorities are essential for achievement, avoiding burnout, and mental stability. 

Give Yourself 1-3 Top Priorities Daily: Complete this one large task or a few smaller to-do list items and errands to feel accomplished daily. This method allows you to do what you need to get done and feel productive without driving yourself crazy about doing everything at once. List out everything you anticipate needing to do the following week on a Sunday. Itemize it by area of life, work or school task, or errand/appointment, and assign it to a day of the week.

Discover Your Simple Pleasures: Whether it’s a favorite coffee, snack, or a ritual like getting your nails done or watching a certain TV show, it’s important to find what activities give you true joy and pleasure. Reward yourself daily with at least one small indulgence – even if it’s just a hot 10-minute shower. These activities will give you the mental stamina to keep going and enjoy your life (which is essential – don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!). 

Allow Yourself Time and Space To Discover Your Interests & Passions: Allocate 10-30 minutes a day to learn more about yourself – whether it’s scrolling on social media for inspiration, reading about a topic of interest, or engaging in an energizing activity. Learn what you love. This skill can only help you and allow you to feel fulfilled as life responsibilities continue to pile on over the years.

C = Cuddling (how do they like to cuddle?)

If he is jelous of something he holds onto you for dear life and will deny why he is acting so clingy.

In general he likes to cuddle by either you holding him or him holding you. He also likes to hide his face in the the crook of your neck or in your chest.

He likes it that way the most cause it makes him feel like you won't just run to cuddle with someone else. He also has an iron grip on you so you can't really get out unless he lets you.

He loves it even more when you act like that! The feeling of you acting possesive, even if it's just you holding him tighter than usual, makes him feel like he is actually wanted

He also wraps his wings around you when he is cuddling you in demon form. It feels like a cocoon so it's nice for the most part.

If you cuddle while sleeping expect him to act as a weighted blanket for you. He loves it. If he is cold for whatever reason he might pick you up to use you as an additional blanket

It does take him a while to act bold about cuddling, he was too flustered a lot of the times to cuddle with you at the begging. He tried to use the 'The Great Mammon doesn't need cuddles from a human'...that quickly went away when he saw you cuddle with Beelzebub.

D = Dates (what does their ideal date with you look like?)

His ideal date would be as far away from his brothers as possible. Also somewhere expensive and loud, where he can have a lot of fun and gamble.

If you are not that into loud places he can find an alternative. The date will be far from perfect if you are not enjoying yourself. Your comfort is his first priority.

He would really love to bring you to a casino and teach you how to gamble. Then with the money you two won you would go clubbing or to a fancy dinner. After the date you two would spend the night together in his room.

He had a dream about a date like that in the past and couldn't get it out of his mind. He refuses to tell you about it, especially about all the things he told you in the dream.

Y = Yearn ( What do they do when they miss you?)

He spams your phone with messages in order to get your attention. Just cause you are away doesn't mean you can't pay attention to him

If you are away and can't talk with him he is gonna look like a sad puppy. Will deny if anyone asks if he misses you, he will just say he lost a bet or failed a money making scheme.

Tries to ignore his feelings and goes to do something else but he can't focus. Gambling, skipping school, making money doesn't seem to feel as nice without you.

Will be in that state until he sees/talks with you. Be prepared to be bombarded with questions about your day, he needs to get rid of that feeling of him missing you.

and after he hears rumors that you have a crush on someone, he was immediately heartbroken by it.

he then told his good friend about it , the person is none other than kaoru hakaze.

Chiaki was silent trying to process Kaoru's suggestion.. Until "Hmm, you're right! Hakaze, please be my date!" , beg chiaki while kneeling and hugging kaoru's legs

As the gray-haired man who just entered the classroom is confused by the situation between his two friends.

-> Loves taking you out on shopping dates whenever he's not busy. Bookstore? Sure, he could always also use a new book. Old record store? Who doesn't like music. Even just walking around while window shopping is so much better with you around. Though you might have to take Elise with you every so often! -> He'll end up going with you to the gym every once in a while, he doesn't always have the time but when he does it's not a bad thing to do. Though sometimes he'll just kinda watch and do barley anything, normally it's because he's still kinda sore or beat up from a past mission -> Your personality types work out pretty well, you being an ENTP and him as a ESTP, showing that you have pretty similar thoughts and feelings about things which makes it a little easier to understand each other! me & my boyf had our first anniversary last week! we didnt get to do much because i started a new job that evening, but i made a cheesecake & by some miracle it turned out ok in spite of me dumping boiling water in it by accident 😅

I've picked up a few new plants (some re-buys for ones lost in the past) and theyre all doing so well （˶′◡‵˶）

as for my survivors, both my first orchid & african violet are putting out flowers! my orchid's spike is still growing so it hasnt got any blooms yet but im so excited to see her flowers again, theyre such a pretty shade of purple. my violet's blooming like her life depends on it, theres at least 4 stems with flower bunches on them popping up! id love to get more violets but i swear she kills them somehow because they always get sick & die within months 💀 the only one thats survived, i propogated from her lol

as it's growing season, most of my plants have new growth. ive been thinking about getting a dedicated shelf for them so i can set up my grow lights again, but i havent decided on a location for it yet.

Hi! Im a very social and outgoing person, but because im slightly autistic probably, sometimes i communicate just to the left of what is considered normal. Mostly people don’t even notice in real life. I am horrendous at texting though, and it makes me really anxious because i sometimes feel like there is some fundamental bit of context that i am missing yknow? Anyways i am fine with people i know but recently i have been making a lot more new friends and my friend just sent me the number if someone shes set me up with and like honestly what are the unwritten rules of texting? And how should i say hi to this guy? Were going to go on a date this has been decided but like we have to plan it still and we have not spoken yet. Also what do you think are good first date ideas? I was honestly just thinking coffee

Well plenty of folks on the spectrum have success with dating, you also just sound a bit nervous.

If you ask my opinion, I actually think it's really normal to be bad at texting and there aren't really any rules besides what you already might do in person. I mean we as humans were never meant to communicate this way so don't beat yourself up if you're bad at it. Most people are and a large portion of smooth interpersonal skills are what we can do/see/feel in person, thats why the whole pandemic and remote school/work doesn't beat the in-person thing.

Texting someone in a conversational aspect without knowing them is almost a 100% learned skill. If you know them, that's when it's more natural and effortless. I'd say just go on the date, see if you like each other, and the rest will smooth itself out. Also let him know in person that you're not the best texter. You already have the date lined up, so all you need to do now is keep it simple and focus on setting up the date.

To say hi to this guy, I'd just start off with a really simple template using first names only and given that he is expecting you to contact him about a date. I use this message all the time:

"Hey <insert guys name>! It's <insert your name>. <insert your friend that set you up's name> gave me your number. Would you be free this <insert day/weekend> to <insert activity>?"

Then he responds and then you work out the time, place, and date. And then congrats, you've set up a first date. This message gets right to the point, get to the date asap, and helps you sound more assertive and confident.

As for first date ideas, I think coffee is great! Coffee, tea, drinks, just something small where you have public space to chat and get to know each other. More ambitious dates like hiking, dinner, movies, are really something you do for 2nd and 3rd dates after you've gotten to know someone. Getting coffee also makes it so that if you don't like this guy, then you can easily leave after you finish, but if you do like him, no one is bothering you with a check or timeline to leave. An added bonus to a first date is if you can find a coffee place near another activity like a gallery/park/bakery/etc. that you can just walk into if the date ends up going well and you want to keep it going.
