Sometimes I have to bite my tongue so I don't show everyone what an asshole I am about cosplay. But. I just want to say like.... 90% of the fun of cosplay for me is trying to match an actual outfit as much as possible. Like. Making most of it myself, and having things I just purchase outright look as close as possible to what a character is wearing. And then of course, you know, spending hundreds of dollars and hours of labor on putting something together only to have someone who slopped some shit out of their closet is. A little frustrating. Just vaguely matching a character's aesthetic isn't cosplay to me.

EW NAH DON’T LOOK AT IT YET MEHHHHHHHHHHHHH

A young girl with keen eyes, not more than 17 years of age, steps confidently into her current environment. That being the dimply lit hub room of a building in which she had signed up to be eligible for a particular organization. It was a strange, almost alien-looking room with barely any furbishings inside; all that stood out was a circular, half-donut shaped white desk in the very middle of the room, and a glowing platform-like rise in the floor just below it; an indication where she was expected to stand. With a strong expression on her face, she strode with pride, a very professional kind of pride which was not usually her kind of style. But she thought it appropriate for the moment.

Once she reached the area, the ring of light glowed brighter and brought up a floating holographic screen, matching the same mysterious light blue of the floorlight. As this happened, the girl placed both of her hands firmly on the cool, white desk and looked powerful, as if she perfectly belonged there. In truth, she still had yet to prove herself. A simulated voice rang out in the hollow space.

“Base sequence: human genome confirmed —Alignment: Lawful-Good. Welcome to the data center for the future of humankind. This is the Security Organization for the Preservation of Humanity, Chaldea. Fingerprint, voiceprint, and DNA authentication cleared. Magical Circuit assessment complete.”

At this, the girl made a big grin, practically oozing out an optimistic confidence that was her prerogative. The voice continued on.

“Username matched. You are recognized as a member of the primates. Nice to meet you. You are our final visitor today. We hope you enjoy your time here. We deeply apologize. Another 180 seconds is needed to complete the admission process. Enjoy a simulated battle while you wait.”

At this, the voice paused and the desk that the girl was leaning on lowered slowly into the floor, until it disappeared. Seamless. The room also dimmed around her, until it became pitch black and it was only her left. The girl looked around at the action, but was unfazed. The voice spoke again.

“Regulation: Senior Contract Servants: Saber, Lancer, Archer. There will be no record of your score. Please feel free to enjoy.”

Lights come on again, the girl gets a fake summoner mark on her hand, and she gets into a battle stance, looking real cocky. The room simulates a field in the daylight, with the Servants in front of the girl. 

“Activating Heroic Spirit Summoning System Fate. We hope you have a pleasant experience as a Master for these 180 seconds. Thank you.”

And the girl RUNS PAST THE SERVANTS AND GOES TO BATTLE THE BEASTS HERSELF OMG YOOOOOOO

guys im down so bad this week and with today's p.o. unboxing i fear it only got worse. anyways i just had a bunch of thoughts ab what it would be like to live w schlatt while y'all are dating. so these are my hcs. -the drunk chuckle sandwich episode had me thinking about you playing bartender for him and making him different drinks to try since he usually just drinks straight from the bottle. he would say some shit like "i'm ngl i didn't know you could make it taste that good." bc nobody ever really bothered to make him try different cocktails until you

-super domestic dancing in the kitchen to old music. duke ellington and etta james and all different kinds of jazz and old love songs, it doesn't matter bc he is spinning you around and kissing you softly as it plays in the background while he sings to you.

-not to be cringe but he would sooo be into that thing those couples do when the smaller partner says "uppies!" and then the other one picks them up. except it would just be a look you give him and putting your arms out with a grabby motion and he would know.(bc im sorry the thought of saying uppies makes me wanna gag) he would pick you up and carry you around like a koala with your legs wrapped around his torso AND he's happy to do it. but just at home bc like i said he's not really into pda.

-he would so take candid pics of you at golden hour. you'd just be in the living room looking out the window with jambo or {redacted} and admiring the sunset and next thing you know there's a disposable camera or the little girl camera right in your face. he would so say some stupid shit to get you to laugh and then snap the picture. but once he gets one, you force him to hop in the frame while holding the other cat so you can get a cute little family pic while the lighting is good. obviously, you made it your background within the next ten minutes. and he made his background the candid picture of you the second he got the pictures onto his phone.

also speaking of concerts I recently caught wind that Skid Row has a new singer (and he's such a good fit I think from what admittedly little I heard from him. definitely got goosebumps from his version of 18 And Life) and they are also going on tour, coming to a city that is relatively close to me (2hrs by train) AND is also a city one of my friends lives in

but it's on a Wednesday, which means I'd have to ask for two days off at a point where I'll have been at my apprenticeship for only 5 months and I don't really wanna be a person who already begs off (while we'll also have our uhhh vocational school (?) courses in blocks, not knowing when those blocks are yet, so chances are we'll have been carted away to school at that point anyways) 😭

it's honestly a pretty mixed bag with knowing where things come from versus not knowing. some of the plates do come from digitized archives of particular publications that have publication info (including city of publication), but since by and large fashion plates fall under what I – as a visual culture historian – consider ephemera, they are, well, ephemeral, meaning that they often come down to us with less context than we might like

I will also say that even those that do come with publication info/location may very well have been distributed outside the city/state/region/country where they originated. for example, for much of the era of the "golden age" of fashion plates, Paris was The Spot for fashion, and so you get publications called things like "les modes de paris" (the fashions of paris) that are distributed not just in Paris and France, but also internationally so that fashion-conscious folks could see what was happening in the "fashion capital"

I guess all this to say that at this point it's not going to be super feasible for me to include location information for the plates, partially because that information isn't always available, and also because when folks submit fashion images to the blog (huge thanks to all those who have done this by the way – I so appreciate it and I love looking at what y'all send in!! ☺️☺️) I don't always have a way of checking sources, and I would hate to have that be prohibitive to people who want to send in images but might not have or be able to find that info

I will also admit that as a result of Certain Conditions of the Mind™️ by which I am afflicted, I would feel the need to go back in and provide that info for every plate I've posted so far, which feels very daunting. and again, that's totally on me – and I freely admit that – but that's just how my funky little brain works lmao 😅

How do you do solarpunk aesthetic week when you live in a tiny apartment with no outside access? I always want to participate but I feel like most stuff y'all post is geared towards people who live in houses...

We put our heads together and came up with a few ideas for you!

Grow plants indoors! You could grow a few houseplants to green up your space, or even try growing some vegetables and/or herbs indoors! I've heard people have lots of luck with basil indoors, and my freshman year of college I grew cherry tomatoes and peppers in my dorm room! Maybe check out information on semi or full-hydroponic setups? You can also propagate a lot with a few cuttings and a glass of water! If you have a balcony with your apartment, that could also be a good place to grow flowers or vegetables--depending on the season and temps where you are, it might be a bit cold to start things out there right now, but you could always start planning!

Crafting could be another fun idea! You could try your hand at mending clothes, or making your own clothes from scratch! I (Ani) am learning crochet, if you wanna join me in spirit and pick it up as well! Kala/Fennopunk (who lives in a small apartment 👀) also knows a lot about crocheting, its a pretty nice winter craft! You could also try embroidery, so you can add unique designs onto your clothes! Other options are things like knitting, sewing, leatherwork, jewelrymaking, soap making, and maybe even woodworking or soldering if that interests you!

Learning how to repair tech would be cool! Honestly, learning how to repair anything sounds super cool and is pretty solarpunk! This can also kinda go hand-in-hand with learning how to build your own things (one of my friends knows how to repair and build computers, for example). Try finding some information on something you're interested in and going wild!

Decorate your home in a way that feels Solarpunk to you! Even if you don't get it all done during the event week, I think its definitely a nice way to bring joy! Look into ways your apartment can change with the seasons, ways to keep yourself cozy and warm in winter but cool and bright during the summer! If you get started, feel free to send in progress images, we'd love to see!

Guerrilla gardening! Winter's a great time to scatter wildflower seeds (at least here in the states for me) as it gives the seeds time to acclimate to weather conditions! if you want flowers in spring, you plant seeds in winter! Maybe find a place you wanna target if you go out, think about what seeds you want to plant, and start planning? Or if you have seeds on hand already, you know what to do! Honestly, I also kinda view picking up litter as hand-in-hand with guerrilla gardening, if you've got the vibes for that at all.

Build community with your neighbors! Even if its just saying hi, or talking about what you're up to!

Maybe guerrilla art as well? Moss graffiti, spray painting, or even plastering a couple of stickers up counts as solarpunk! I will give a general warning that doing stuff seen as illegal probably shouldn't be posted online, but hey, you can participate in the week without telling us what you do!

Speaking of art! Maybe you could make art at home! Whether you use chalk, or pastels, or paint, or pencils, or if you've got a tablet you can use--find some inspiration and draw! I've seen lots of people draw solarpunk fashion ideas, solarpunk building concepts, or just general vibe art!

You could also take a crack at writing! You could write a short story, or get started on a longer project idea! You could even just write worldbuilding-type stuff, like examples of event listings or building histories you imagine a solarpunk society would have, or ideas for holidays and festivals!

Learning an instrument feels pretty solarpunk to me! I (Ani) say this as someone who has 2 guitars around and has forgotten 80% of the stuff she learned in her lessons back in high school. Just in general, picking up an old hobby you miss, or starting a new one works great for this event honestly!

Kiff is a fun show that takes relatively grounded concepts like drama class or going to the movies or the grocery store and turns up the absurdity. A lot of the stories come from Kiff just being super determined to do what she wants to do that day and going to ridiculous lengths to do it. Also Kiff's friendship with Barry is sort of an early-season Spongebob and Patrick dynamic which is always fun.

The humor shines most with sight gags and blink-and-you-miss-it. You'll also get plenty of Kimiko Glenn one-liners that are nothing like Lena but still funny to think that it's her voice. It has what I call "Brooklyn 99 syndrome" where it'll have one moment in every episode that's the funniest thing I've ever seen but I wouldn't call the whole show that if that makes sense.

Also they do the classic song in every episode formula so if you're into that then it's there. Gives us the Lena songs we were robbed of.

Hailey's On It is also fun, and also a lot less focused on the romance element than the trailers and theme song suggest. Sure, Hailey and Scott's *friendship* is all over the show, but it's more about Hailey overcoming her fears of commitment and trying new things.

Hailey and Scott are absolutely adorable together in a best friends type of way. W for us folks who want fun platonic cross-gender relationships, Dewey and Webby style.

This show also does the song in every episode thing, and the lead is the voice of Moana and she canonically sings pretty well and keeps getting pushed to sing more which I love actually. As funny as the "irl actor can't act" trope is to me, I think it plays a lot into Hailey's self-confidence which like I said is a theme in the show.

Tell ya what Scott is dumb as a rock sometimes but I love him. That's all I have to say.

One issue I have with the show is they do vomit/sickness jokes in every episode. Not kidding it's pretty much every single one so far. I can handle one or two if they're good jokes but Hailey's On It goes to the well way too many times in my opinion.

Another thing about the premise is that it requires Hailey to be successful to finish her list. Like when her goal in the episode is to win a contest then you know she's gonna win and it's just a matter of how. I feel like they're gonna have to mess with that formula sometimes to keep it fresh. They've had one or two like the strawberry owl episode where she stumbled into it but most of the time she just wins because she has to for the show to work.

People were upset because Amphibia and the Owl House ending meant that DTVA was dead or whatever. And sure these might not be the epic "story-driven" shows that those two were (although there is definitely story in Hailey's On It so idk what y'all want), but the TVA is in good hands.

Wiping your tears you leave your house, walking quick enough for it to be considered rushing.

After a lot of convincing from both Billy and your best friend Robin, you'd come to the conclusion to tell your parents about you being bisexual. They knew this possibly wouldn't end well, but better than sneaking around, right?

You had hidden it for a long time as it wasn't really welcome in this society - especially in a small town like Hawkins - so you stuck to hiding it. After about three months Robin and you got closer than ever and she told you about herself. It came only as a slight shock if you thought of all the times she brutally shot down any boy that came close.

She was also the one that helped you figure yourself out. When you started dating Billy it was clear to you (and Robin) that you'd never tell him. You did think it'd be unfair as he was your boyfriend and should know something important like that, but he was still... Billy. And Billy was the last person you'd want to know.

Maybe that should've stopped you from committing and entering this relationship. You're glad it didn't though, because half a year into it and he knows. It was a long evening, both of you left tired from dinner with your family.

When you watched the way he talked about you, looked at you or simply interacted you realized something. There was a huge misconception surrounding Billy Hargrove. Yes, he was rough. He wasn't someone you should mess with or on whose bad side you should get. But he wasn't all that tough when he trusted someone.

So, when he started realizing you wouldn't leave or betray him, he really started being himself. He would let you brush his hair - even braid it sometimes if you're pushing it - and was simply... soft around you.

So soft and lovable that you told him. He was quiet at first, after all this didn't just happen all the time and his girlfriend was also... attracted to girls?

He was a bit suspicious of your friendship with Robin afterwards, but you were quick to knock some sense into him because yes, she's cute but never in that way.

Which cued all his jokes about liking the same stuff and that you shouldn't even be that repulsed from his... special magazines.

All in all it had gone great and you loved him even more after.

Maybe you shouldn't have thought it'd apply to your parents too, besides all the shit they've done to you all your life. They weren't as bad as Billy's dad, but definitely found fun in throwing insults your way or making you duck several empty bottles or cans.

Which led you to now, crying in your car while driving over the speed limit at nearly nine at night on a saturday. It had, despite your hopes, gone horrible. Your parents didn't believe you at first - tried making sense of what you were saying, that you were dating Billy and that what you were saying wasn't possible.

When you kept insisting they just stood there, shocked for a few seconds. That's when the yelling began. They were mad that you "chose" to be like that, etcetera. When it had gotten too much, you walked out.

You could go to Robin, she'd understand you after all, but Billy was just a tad bit more the comfort you were leaning towards right now.

Parking your car down the street in a small space engulfed by some trees you exited and breathed in deep - you couldn't make any noise at his now, so you needed to stop crying.

While walking over you made sure to make it seem as if you're walking past his house - so if his dad was watching he'd just see you as another passenger.

When you found your usual route you pushed his window open with practiced movements and climbed in, the piece of wood doing as a perfect help to reach.

He was sitting on his bed, leaning against his headboard while holding a cassette in his hands. The tape on the inside had shriveled up and he was frustratedly picking at it.

You smiled at the sight of him, his curly hair framing his face in the most beautiful way, and his lips slightly parted from looking down.

His tank top on the other hand made his biceps bulge even more and you sheepishly looked away. He hasn't noticed your presence yet, still focused on the small piece of plastic in his hands.

"Baby," you say and hope your voice doesn't sound as shaky to him as it does to you. He flinches a little before realizing it's you and lays the tape aside. He calls your name, a little confused at you being there. Usually you'd call before coming, making sure he wasn't in a situation with his dad.

"What are you doing here?" He asks again, but opens his arms for you nonetheless. "I told them," you grunt as you fall into his arms, shoes discarded under his bed and keys on his nightstand. He stays silent for a second before sighing and raking a hand down your back. "Didn't go well, I take?" You nod and he mumbles something under his breath before pulling you next to him in his bed.

It smelled of cigarettes and his perfume, comforting. "Started yelling at me about how it wasn't real and I was just trying to make them mad and shit," you explain while he adjusts the blanket around your shoulders. He barely had any blanket to himself, but he also runs incredibly hot, so he stuck to sleeping without being cocooned in a blanket most of the time anyway.

"Ah," he says before throwing a shoe at the lightswitch and effectively turning the light off. You send him a disapproving glare before sulking again. "So unnecessary, too. Anyway, I thought I'd stay here for the night and then with Robin until they cool off," you explain while wiggling into his arms. He chuckles and pats your head before inhaling slowly. "You know parents suck. Especially ours. But it's whatever because in a while we're outta here."

It started as a joke on your part - leaving after graduation and going back to California. Both your parents were shit and nothing big could be achieved in this small town either.

But that's where the plans were stuck. You had seen it in the way he hesitated; that he didn't want to leave Max alone. Which is why it was almost entirely hypothetical when you were talking about it.

"Hm," you hum and lean against his chest. "Just glad you're with me."

He scoffs and slaps your shoulder lightly - 'lightly' in his book. He was too strong for this shit - and you slap his arm, too, "Stop saying that like I'm gonna leave any second. Fucking trust me, babe."

He sounded annoyed and you laughed but nodded, "Sure."

He sighed but leaned more against you, chin on your forehead. "We'll figure this out, yeah? Just go to sleep now," he pauses and you can feel him planning another comment, "Unless you wanna do something else~" he smirks.

"Billy." You sternly say and he just chuckles amusedly before settling back down. "I'm serious though, you've left me hanging for a week now and it's not funny anymore," with that the serious tension faded and you giggled happily while he keeps his look serious but whiny.

This was the reason for you to keep going no matter how much your parents disapproved.

Dating Jed Hunter Headcanons

I told y'all I'd do this! And I am a woman of my word! This is mainly for giggles, so I might not make another one (unless... /hj), but I was surprised by how well my Jed appreciation post did so I decided to make this for all the Jed Hunter fans and appreciators out there

This man puts the gentlemen in League Of Gentlemen. He'll always offer to pay, but won't push if you want to because he respects your right to choose. He'll offer to walk/drive you home and makes sure you get in safely. And he'll always compliment you whenever he gets the chance

He's the King of really bad dad jokes that he knows are awful

He also LOVES telling you dumb pick-up lines to make you both laugh. He'll come up behind you while you're doing something, wrap his arms around your waist, kiss your cheek, then say some corny line as he tries to hold his giggles in. Or he'll text you one without context occasionally

Whenever he struggles with casting, he'll show you audition footage and asks for your opinions - no matter how much acting experience you have, he truly appreciates your feedback

Cinema and drive-in theatre dates are an absolute guarentee. He likes discussing the film afterwards and hearing what you thought of it, even if your opinions differ. In fact, that makes it fun!

He's also down to watch something at home with snacks, he isn't fussed either way - time spent with you is time well spent

He could listen to you talk for ages. No matter what the subject is, even if he has no clue what you're on about, he loves seeing you get excited when you talk about things you're passionate about. He just thinks you're 👌🏻 kewl 👌🏻

This guy gives the best hugs. Seriously, they're warm and strong without crushing your bones. And he'll always give you one when you need it

Sometimes he worries that his worklife means he ends up neglecting you since being in the entertainment industry is very time-consuming ("so is eating a clock" would be his response) and it's too important to him to give it up. He sometimes fears that you might think he loves his job more than you, which is not true, so he'll try and make it up to you by getting you involved in projects he does. Backstage jobs, small roles in the background, he'll always offer if there's a space for you - but of course, he'll never push the point. His logic is, rather than having to choose between the two things he loves, why not blend them together?

But make no mistake, he's always up for getting stuck in with your hobbies too! No matter what it is, he's always up to try something new. Even if it's super niche, Jed is open for it

Although he always prioritises treating everyone equally... he's not opposed to giving you discounts to any shows/films he puts on - and they just happen to be the best seats in the house

Dating Jed is like dating your best friend: fun and completely relaxed

ALSO I'm once again going to be a panelist, presenter, and moderator at the LTUE Symposium in February!

LTUE is one of the most affordable writers'/creatives' conferences out there (extra discounts for if you're a student) while still giving you a massive bang for your buck. They have eight different 'tracks' for presentations and panels (writing, world building, art, TMA, academics, books, gaming, and professional development), but you can attend literally whichever sessions, panels, or presentations you want, so you can mix and match interests and professional goals.

It's super educational and I highly recommend it to anyone trying to go pro with their creative works, but it's also fun. Like obscene amounts of fun. It's all the best of a convention while also providing genuine professional opportunities. People come in cosplay, Sunday Best, and/or street clothes; I was on a panel last year next to an author with electric purple hair and a real silver fairy tiara whilst I was wearing a t-shirt with a sunglasses possum on it, and the guy on the other side of us was in a full suit and bowtie. There was a life-size Springtrap cosplay out in the main lobby. I pitched for the first time ever to 3 actual literary agents and got 3 requests. I got personal career advice from a 25+ year industry pro. A 12 year old with a "future author" pin asked me questions on my presentation and took notes, and so did an octogenarian in rainbow suspenders. I was taught how to write a professional query letter-- that has a 16% positive response rate, where standard is ~10%-- by a former lawyer in a pirate hat.

It's good vibes only, man.

But you'll also find professional agents, editors, artists, authors, directors, game devs and so on. It's a huge geek-fest that puts people at all levels of the professional world on equal footing. They've even got gaming events and filking circles.

In short, it's networking, fun, hyperfocus material, and professional-level education in equal measure.

I seriously can't say enough good things about it (and not just because I'm involved). There's something for every type of creator/creative out there, 11/10 highly recommend.

Thursday

Original presentation (academics track): Folklore of the American South. An overview of myths, monsters, and old wives' tales from the rich storytelling heritage of the Southern States. AKA I finally have a platform to yell about my cultural heritage and by golly am I gonna yell about it! 10 am (yes it's a bit early, but I swear it'll be worth it! Y'all know you wanna hear about the Rougarou the destiny-determining powers of cornbread!)

Friday

Panelist: Shellshocked: Writing PTSD. Injecting realism into and dispelling myths surrounding characters with PTSD. AKA how flashbacks do and do not work, how to avoid making your character a caricature, and how to be sensitive so you don't use peoples' actual lived experiences as a sensationalist, reductionist cash grab. 10 am.

Panelist: Life After Coming Out. How to feature queer characters in more than just coming-out plots. AKA OwnVoices is not an excuse to exclude the reality of queer people in your built universes; don't write a story that's not yours to tell, but for the love of all things holy there's more stories to tell about queer folks than just The Big Realization! 11 am. (whew mercy, they gonna have me hoofin it all across that hotel RIP my ankles and my asthma)

Panelist: Fat Doesn't Mean Unfit. What it says on the tin. AKA a bunch of chubby folks are gonna demolish your fatphobia and why that's an important and good thing. Also I have a degree in health so I will be demolishing that fatphobia scientifically. 5 pm.

Saturday

Moderator: Dining Throughout History. A panel about how food, meals, and feeding communities did and did not work throughout history. AKA ancient Romans absolutely DID have takeout on the regular, and you're not a failure for not making 3 square meals a day at home with all-fresh all-natural ingredients. I mean, your characters aren't failures.... Yeah. That. 9 am.

Panelist: Nonnormative Relationships and You. The whats, whys, and hows of all the different non-romantic/nonsexual relationships your characters can find themselves in. AKA no shade to the romance crowd, but can we please stop forcing characters to kiss just because they're in physical or emotional proximity??? 11 am.

Moderator/Facilitator: Do-It-Yourself Medical Care: Hands-On First Aid. Come learn how to effectively injure and care for your characters by actually doing it! The caring part, not the injury part. We do not condone irl violence in the Marriott and as mod I will be obligated to fight you if you attempt to injure another participant. I can tell you right now as a both a stress crying asthmatic and the parent of a toddler with professional experience handling and subduing dangerous animals, it will be highly embarrassing for everyone involved. I seriously cannot tell you how excited I am for this one! It's me and four other authors who are also trained in medicine/health, so we're working hard to make this an informative and relevant experiential learning opportunity. They're only giving us 45 minutes, unfortunately, but we're already coordinating to try and pack in the most opportunities and most interesting exercises possible. It's gonna be so fun!! 1 pm, do not be late, we can only fit so many people and training dummies into the room!

Moderator: A Brighter Future: Solarpunk Fiction. A panel discussing the Solarpunk genre, why it's relevant, the ways conflict and worldbuilding would be different in a Solarpunk setting, etc. AKA a bunch of neohippies walked into a bar professional panel and decided to rant about sustainable living. 3 pm.

The rest of the time I'll be flitting around attending panels and presentations, checking out the art show and vendors room, socializing/networking, generally vibing, and maybe getting in a few pitch sessions.
