President John Adams expressed his views on granting a passport to Pierre Samuel duPont de Nemours: “We have had too many French Philosophers already . . . ” September 17, 1798.
Record Group 59: General Records of the Department of State Series: Letters Received File Unit: September THRU December 1798
Transcription:

Quincy September 17. 1798
Sir
I have received your favour of the Eleventh.
I wish I understood better than I do The Conduct
both of General Pickering and Mr. Gerry.
I shall not be guilty of so much
affection of regard to science, as to be very willing
to grant passports to Dupont De Nemours or
any other French Philosophers, in the present
situation of our country. We have had too many
French Philosophers already; and I really begin
to think or rather to suspect, that learned Academies
not under the immediate inspection and control
of Government have disorganized the world and
are incompatible with social order. Mr King judges
very correctly of the American Government, that it has
no disposition to give any Encouragement to the
Mission of the Directory:  I hope he conjectures equally
well of the English.
With great Esteem I am Sir your most obt. John Adams
Timothy Pickering Esq.
Secretary of State
turn over.

Caroline Bingley
And for a little bit of contrast a certain Miss Bingley decided to join the redesign lineup. Inspired by a 1798 fashion plate (the only way to be a true trendsetter is to be able to see the future) she's rocking a style and color that would clearly set her apart from the "country" gentry her party would be visiting with on this trip.

Someone please write a review of this game, which appears to be a cutesy farming simulator. Please find some cheap-shot inspiration below:
0/5 can't use my pike to charge at the yeos
1/5 enjoyed the farming but my crop got trampled by the British cavalry.
1/5 that Cornwallis character is sooo annoying!!
0/5 (Northern) Stars the only pumpkins I can grow are orange
