11 Top Wines that You Must Have for Parties
Serving the best wines at a party can be as exciting as serving favorite liquors. Wine is a great choice for entertaining because of its versatility. Adding salads and steaks to a good white wine should enhance its flavor.
What are the top wines you should include in your list? Sendgifts provides some great tips on choosing the right wine for your picnic or party in this article.
Sendgifts is an online liquor store in the US that caters to those who want affordable wines online as well as those who enjoy experimenting with new wines. By carefully evaluating flavors, our wine delivery service puts the customer first.
 Top Wines for Parties
Whatever type of party you're planning, choosing the right wine is essential.
Here are some of our best wine collections:
 1. Pinot Noir
A bold red fruit with earthy flavors pairs well with pork, steak, game, and poultry.
Pairing Tips: Allow this Pinot noir wine to breathe for at least 15 minutes before serving. Slowly unwind the wire cage over the bottle's neck to prevent oxidation. Due to its low tannin content, it is suitable for serving in a casual setting. Pinot Noir is perfect to accompany meats such as fish, chicken or duck, as well as mushrooms and soft cheeses.
 2. Riesling
With its clean acidity and sweeter notes, this white wine pairs well with almost anything.
Pairing Tips: Unlike some wines, Riesling wine should not be decanted for hours before serving—it would ruin its delicate character. Instead, remove the cork and gently ease out the wire cage over the wine's neck. Give it 15 minutes to breathe at room temperature before serving. Pair with light appetizers like cheese or seafood.
 3. Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon wine is high in acidity and pairs well with poultry, herb-roasted chicken, and pan-seared fish.
Pairing Tips: This is another wine that's best decanted, so remove the cork 15 minutes before serving. To prevent oxidation, gently remove the wire cage from the bottle's neck. To enjoy its crisp flavors, serve it slightly chilled.
 4. Merlot
Merlot wine has a soft tannins and complex aromas of berries, cherries, and spice. This makes it great pair with red meats like lamb or bison.
Pairing Tips: When you're ready to serve, unwind the wire cage slowly but firmly (to prevent oxidation) from the bottle's neck. Merlot pairs well with a variety of foods, including shellfish and vegetables.
 5. Vouvray
The aromas of honeysuckle and green apple in this Vouvray wine are very pleasant and it is best served chilled with spicy food, such as Cajun-rubbed steaks or Chinese cuisine.
Pairing Tips: This wine needs to be chilled all the way down before serving. You can keep the bottle in an ice bucket for a few hours before drinking it to keep its crisp flavor.
 6. Pinot Grigio
Pinot Grigio is an all-around white from the Pacific Northwest that's known for its nutty flavors and citrus notes.
Pairing Tips: Try light pastas and rice dishes with lots of herbs, fresh green salads and vegetables, chicken and turkey, and fish and seafood. Add a couple of slices of lemon and lime and several pieces of seasonal fruit like raspberries or blackberries.
 7. Malbec
Most Malbec wines are smooth with jammy fruit flavor and savory notes of black cherry, pomegranate, plum, raspberry, and raisin. There are also hints of coffee, leather, tobacco, molasses, and black pepper.
Pairing Tips: You'll find Malbec a great match for steak, pork, and lamb, as well as fattier fish like salmon and poultry with dark meat. Game meat like bison, ostrich, and venison are also a safe bet. In addition to meat pairings, consider foods with richer sauces or more vibrant flavors.
 8. Chardonnay
Chardonnay wine varies in flavor based on the climate in which it grows. Depending on how ripe the grapes get, the flavor ranges from citrus and green apple, to overripe peach and canned pineapple.
Pairing Tips: Pairing chardonnay with foods that are creamy, light, and simply seasoned are going to be the best way to compliment the wine. You’ll also want to avoid more acidic foods like tomatoes, as the acidity of the food will make the wine taste sour.
 9. Cabernet Sauvignon
A beautifully crafted Cabernet Sauvignon, particularly smooth and fresh. Its seductive aromas of cherry and blackberry are followed by delicate plum and chocolate notes. A really well-balanced red wine, with refreshing acidity and a memorable finish.
Pairing Tips: Cabernet Sauvignon is best with nearly all red meat, including prime rib, New York strip and filet mignon. Also try lamb or pepper- crusted ahi tuna. The wine is best enjoyed with food and is great in sauces or reductions.
 10. Zinfandel
With aromas of dark fruits and peppermint, this crowd-pleasing red wine is perfect for casual get-togethers.
Pairing Tips: Zinfandel wine pairs beautifully with barbeque, spicy foods, smoked cheeses and tangy flavors, but is also easy to enjoy on its own.
 11. Barbera d’Alba
Barbera wine has notes of strawberry and sour cherry: flavors synonymous with light-bodied wines. Light tannin and high acidity make it taste 'Juicy'. Most of the Barbera you'll find is from Italy which leans towards more herbaceous flavors.
Pairing Tips: Given the high acidity, fatty foods work beautifully with Barbera wine. Think red meats and even salmon is a gorgeous pairing. Also because of the acidity, barbera wine pairs well with pasta with a simple pasta in red sauce or a marinara.
 Conclusion
Wine is the key to any party. Order wine online to stock up on all the top wines from Sendgifts that your guests won't bring, so you can surprise them with a new drink they haven't tried before. You'll have tons of fun at your next get-together!

how to be rich and luxurious⋆.ೃ࿔*:・🌺
Tumblr media
we must first understand that being rich is a state of mind. you could be broke and not poor. never poor. poor is a state of mind. and that choice that u make to be rich or poor is ultimately yours cuz u control ur thoughts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so how do we radiate luxury and become luxurious? through having luxurious thoughts. we know that what we think manifests so lets think things that make us richer in every aspect of our lives.
LUXURY IS AN ENERGY ;
when you exude the energy of luxury, YOU’LL ALWAYS BE LUXURIOUS. the luxury that u exude will manifest. thoughts manifest. have luxurious thoughts -> a luxurious reality WILL manifest. its rly that simple ✨
CULTIVATING LUXURY ENERGY ;
u cultivate luxury energy, like i mentioned before, through luxury thoughts. but if ur not used to thinking luxury thoughts/have a lack or poverty mindset, here are some affirmations to start and guide thinking.
im grateful that im so abundant and rich in the things that i love
im like barbie cuz i have more then enough of everything
i have SO much, that i can bless others with my riches
i live my life lavishly
you can cultivate luxury by doing things that make u feel rich and luxurious. some things that help me to feel that way are.
drinking drinks from a designated cup or wine-glass
silky robes are EVERYTHING. or wearing lingerie and matching bra and panty sets
consistently practicing self care every single day
wearing jewelry
ofc everyone has different things that make them feel rich and different classifications for what luxury is and isn’t and that’s your choice to make ultimately.
i recommend making a list of what makes u feel luxurious and doing that often. literally when i go to costco or a whole-sale store and have free samples i feel luxurious 😭 bcuz im INDULGING.
that goes to show that u dont need to do the most to feel luxurious right at this moment. and that leads me to my next point.
INDULGE YOURSELF ;
don’t deny yourself the things that u desire and the things that you want. if u want ur fun little drink, have ur fun little drink. get ur nails done, take urself shopping every now and then. if u can’t afford to get these done, do it yourself.
you have the ability to make yourself feel special and luxurious. the idea to this is to cultivate the feeling of being rich or the feeling of abundance and luxury.
start a collection that you can have a lot of, change the perspective in which u see the things that u already own. kind of like seeing a cup have full then a cup half empty?
THINGS TO BE RICH IN ;
be rich in knowledge, be rich in culture, be rich in relationships, be rich in beauty. be rich in whatever interests that u might have.
to be rich in knowledge -> seek higher education, study, read lots of books, start writing and seeking knowledge in whatever interests you
to be rich in culture -> learn more about ur own culture and the culture of other people. explore and educate yourself on religion and customs that interest you. be well versed in another language or in something that’s important in todays media and pop culture
to be rich in relationships -> don’t close yourself up to meaningful relationships that you have. don’t take everything seriously and practice being social.
to be rich in beauty -> take impeccable care of yourself and your body. pamper yourself every single day and pick up habits that serve the highest good for your appearance.
to be rich in ur interests -> become well versed as i said before in whatever it is that interests you. there are countless resources online that can help give you information and direction on going about ur interests.

witchcraft / deity work on a budget
if you, like me, don't have a lot of money but still want to practise witch craft / give offerings to your deities, here's some general tips on how you can do all that on a budget:
you don't need to burn a whole stick of incense or a whole spell candle at once. in fact, if you light a candle or incense with a specific intent and then burn it over the course of a couple of days, it might actually be more effective. unless you're using it to banish / get rid of something, then it might be better to burn it all in one go.
on that note, you don't need fancy spell candles, a tea light with a sigil carved into it can be enough
if you want to give food offerings but can't afford to waste / not eat food, you can just invite your deity to sit with you as you eat or you can put certain ingredients associated with your deity into your food, like for example wine for dionysus. or you can give them a small crumb of your food or a small sip of your drink to symbolise a whole meal. a lot of deities will also accept simple things like water or olive oil as offerings.
also: offerings don't need to be physical, you can perform certain actions in your deities name, just look up devotional acts for your deity, there's tons of useful stuff out there.
doing creative things like writing your own prayers or making devotional art is actually probably better than most physical offerings, since you put a lot of effort and time into it and its something personal to you. it doesn't even need to be good, you just need to put love and effort into it. this is especially good for deities who rule over the arts.
if you can't buy a whole tarot deck, theres lots of free online versions you can use, or you can use a simple deck of playing cards as a substitute.
anything you find outside can be magical, you don't need to buy any spell ingredients.
feel free to add onto this if you have more tips!!!

I'm Not Enough For You
Pairing: Gojo Satoru x fem reader
Genre: Fluff
Warnings: Gojo being a man-child
Part 2
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Seeing your boyfriend being oh-so-perfect in everything makes you doubt yourself. His flawless performance in every aspect of life triggers self-doubt within you. Yet, your love for him keeps you hoping to bridge the gap between your insecurities and his perfection.
Tumblr media
You were having an exquisite home-cooked dinner, the soft glow of candles dancing in harmony with the soothing melodies caressing the air, collectively conjuring an ambience that enveloped the house in the most heart-warming embrace imaginable.
"Satoru." Sitting across from your boyfriend, you opened your mouth to catch his attention.
"Yeah?" He glanced up from his messy plate full of dishes you prepared while chewing and replying to your call at the same time. You love the way he is, his not-so-serious attitude around you.
"This is stupid, but I've been contemplating this for quite some time." You avoided his gaze by taking a sip of the wine in front of you. You could feel his look on you (still chewing on his food, of course).
"I realised I'm not enough for someone like you." You continued, looking at him this time, hoping for his positive reaction.
"Mhmm, you're right. I deserve better." Knowing it's not something important, he shifted his gaze back to his plate (as if it's more important than you).
"Did you just realise that no-" The moment he raised his head, eyes aligned with yours, he knew something was wrong. The expression on your face, the way you weren't saying anything. You'd usually hit him playfully or scold him whenever he says something that triggers you. He knew what he said hurt you, but he didn't pay any mind to it. After all, you'd just hit him and brush it off like last time. Right?
"Y/N?" He quickly stood up, walking to your side.
"Hmm?" Your eyes met his, and as he gracefully crouched beside you, his hand finding yours to intertwine with. Though you tried to conceal it, you can't deny that you felt a faint pang of hurt from the unexpected directness of his response.
"Are you mad?" He continues caressing your hand, head hanging low like a puppy who did something wrong. You can't bring yourself to be mad at him. He's just speaking facts, and you know that.
"No. Of course I'm not." There was a moment of silence before you continued speaking. "I don't even have the right to get mad at you." You leaned forward a little, giving him a kiss on his forehead.
"Am sorry, baby. I was just joking, I thought you knew that." He finally looked up, staring straight into your soul as if trying to let you feel his sincerity.
"Toru, don't worry. I wouldn't take it to heart even if you meant that seriously," you said with a soft chuckle. You affectionately observed your cute boyfriend, who had lowered his pride just to ensure you weren't upset with him. He couldn't afford to anger you; you held that much power over him. You gently withdrew your hand from his grip, which surprised him a bit, and instead, placed it on his snow-white hair, gently running your fingers through it.
As your mood brightened, he felt as though a heavy weight had been lifted from his heart. In response, he returned with a smile—a smile so beautiful and genuine that it had been a while since you had seen one like it.
"No one deserves me; I am, after all, the strongest. But I'll make an exception because I have a soft spot for you, sweetheart."

More thoughts
I get both sides, but I feel a little confused they couldn't find four people in their +25 employees
Data analyst (Are you seriously telling me you couldn't personally email or even just HIRE matpat's team who do data analytics as part of Theorist Media to help??? The man would be overjoyed to help???)
Editor (Put the first $6 towards a can of coffee grounds, dude)
PR Team (Even, like, a single person, please, for the love of god)
Business Major (Or literally anyone that has taken a home ec/budgeting/personal finance class)
First, the Dish Granted series was started when gold leaf burgers were novel, now it's seen as tone deaf (for obvious reasons) it should have shifted to something like interviews with people who make that kind of food or local businesses (like parmesan cheese shops in Parma, Italy) or the history of food (like talking about the history of modern Native American slavery on Californian wine vinyards). Not to mention the untapped potential of Food Fraud topics. Either shift it, or scrap it. Any data analyst or chronically online person could tell you that.
Second, why did you keep "anyone can afford $6 a month" in? Are the editors asleep at the wheel? Are they overworked? What is going on? You know damn well to not make generalizations about what people can afford. That's NEVER a good idea, especially when you KNOW (because YT gives you analytics) that most of your viewers are young (16/18-30/35 range, I'd guess) who probably, either 1, are still in school and either arent paid well/dont have jobs OR 2, arent paid well and tired of people's shit, like people who own businesses talking about "tough financial decisions." To them, Watcher isn't going to look different from the other people talking like that, because this was so sudden, with no input from fans, and in the video you hear shit like "anyone can afford [X]." To be frank, it wouldn't really matter what the amount is, because that generalization goes against the message they have stood by for years. THAT is a slap in the face.
Third, what are yall doing with the budgeting? Every artist has a right to make art that they are proud of. Every artist deserves to have their work seen if they so choose. Every artist deserves to make a living. HOWEVER, there are MANY options online when it comes to making money, especially on YT. You could get into marketing, data analysis, expanding your demographic, looking at what people are interested in right now VS what will stand the test of time (not gold leaf burgers), etc.
You have to either have these skills, develop these skills, or hire someone to do it for you. It's understandable that you would want a team behind the production, but I find +25 employees to be WAY too many people, especially in LA. Bailey Sarian has a Dark History section on her YT (and Spotify podcast) where she has hired historians to help make sure her episodes are as accurate as possible. You've caught heat before from Puppet History's missing & incorrect info, you should do the same. She has about three (3) "intermissions" per episode for ad breaks. I never see anyone complain. People WOULD listen to yall talk for that long (+1 hour videos), tbh, though that's not necessary.
Why are yall out here with Teslas, expensive food, new gear, scripts (where there weren't scripts before, PH is different, that makes sense), and "better than TV" level sets??? I need to put your accountant in this week's church prayer list what the actual hell??? Ya'll, this video is literally the meme:
Guys help me budget:
LA Rent: 2K per month
Videos: 100K per vid
+25 Employees: God only knows
New stuff for videos: Don't get me started
Like, are you serious?
You have a right to do whatever you want with your art. You have a right to charge whatever you'd like for that art. You have a right to make a living from your art and you have a right to ask your fans for money.
Your fans have a right to be angry when they've been supporting yall for, what, almost 10 years? They have a right to choose when and where to spend their money even when you've made an impact. They have a right to feel betrayed, especially when there are better options (like Nebula or consulting with Theorist Media).
Fans DO NOT have a right to be racist to any members of Watcher, now that they have made a decision they do not agree with.
I personally, think this is a really silly decision and could have been solved (haha solved) with a simple YT poll, but apparently we had to get... this. I respect their decision, I just don't think it was a smart one. I wish them the best, and I hope they find a better solution. Any further comment from me will depend on what steps they take next.

eight years
syn -> you don’t expect to run into your high school sweetheart after eight years. it seems your heart still yearns for the man.
taiju shiba x reader
nothing to beware of..
~
Tumblr media
‘no more online dating for me,’ you thought to yourself, sighing as you cleared your plate.
this was the second time you’ve been stood up on a date your friend’s helped you set up, and it was getting annoying.
you sat there for two or three hours, sipping on some wine.
your glass had been refiled about three times before you decided to just buy the rest of the bottle.
you only decided to order your food after you confirmed your date just wasn’t going to come. again.
you wiped your lips clean of your food and balled up the tissue, before tossing it onto the empty plate.
leaning back, you regretted your life choices.
at the age of 26, you were using a dating app to go on dates and getting shitted on or disgusted.
or in this case, stood up.
what the hell were you even doing anymore?
before you could raise your hand for the bill, a male walked up to you. was this your date?
no.
he was holding a tray of desert, wearing a suit the man you were supposed to go out with probably couldn’t afford.
“never thought i’d see the day where i would meet you again.” the male spoke confidently, smiling down at you.
you raised your eyebrow. as good as he looked, you were praying he wasn’t going say some cheesy ass pick up line.
“do i know you?” you questioned, tilting your head to see if he had looked even the slightest familiar.
this man definitely did, but where would you know a waiter from your favorite restaurant from?
you’ve never met him before, and you’ve met almost everyone here.
‘must be new.’ you thought quietly, before adjusting yourself in your seat.
“you do. does taiju shiba ring a bell?” he questioned, taking a seat in front of you while placing the plate of desert in front of you.
taiju shiba? as in your high school sweetheart taiju shiba?
“no way.” you said in shock, finally taking in the male- no. taiju shiba’s newer and bigger appearance.
he shot you his little boyish smile and slid the plate of desert closer to you.
“looks like you’ve had a shit day. eat up.” taiju suggested, pointing at the plate with his chin.
and eat you did.
you ate the desert of the plate, still in shock of seeing taiju shiba in the flesh in front of you.
“i didn’t know you were a waiter or something. your dad work here?” you questioned, looking up at him from the plate.
taiju shook his head, chuckling quietly. “i own the restaurant, pretty girl.” taiju said proudly.
your eyes widened as you looked around. no way he owned a restaurant at the age of twenty six.
you looked at the ring on his finger, and suppressed a wince.
it seemed to be a wedding band.
so not only was he successful, but he had a wife. probably a kid somewhere too.
taiju was doing so much better than you were.
“is that from uhm- you know.” you questioned quietly, pointing to the wedding band on his finger.
he knew who you were talking about.
after graduation, the two of you had broken up because you were going in two different directions quite literally.
the two of you stayed friends for about two to three years while being in college. you were the one that stopped speaking to him.
when he made it to college, you still loved him. but you didn’t want him to know that. he was the one that suggested the idea.
one day you ended up seeing him on another girl’s post, seeming happier than the two of you ever were.
it was how you two fell off. you stopped texting and unfollowed him on every social media you had him on.
it was finally time for you to move on.
taiju looked at the ring on his finger and chuckled, shaking his head.
“nah. we didn’t last long honestly. seems like i’m still stuck in the past.” taiju explained, leaning back in the seat.
you finished your desert and nodded, silently agreeing with him.
you yourself still held onto everything in the past, almost as if you didn’t want to move forward with your life.
taiju looked at you, before holding back a small snicker. you squinted at him in confusion.
“what’s so funny?” you questioned lightly, smiling at him.
taiju leaned forward and wiped your cheek, showing you a piece of whipped cream before sucking it off his finger.
now you felt flustered.
“how about we step outside? the night sky feels good on the balcony.” taiju suggested, pointing behind him.
there was a balcony here? and you didn’t know?!
~
turns out, the balcony was at the back of the entire restaurant.
to get there, you would have to go upstairs and go into the hallway of taiju’s office and turn a few times.
eventually, you would make it to a beautiful balcony where you could see the night sky and the city of roppongi.
it was gorgeous, just like taiju described on the way to the balcony.
“you okay with me smoking?” taiju asked, gesturing to his pack of cigarettes.
you waved him off, walking over to the edge and placing your hands on the bars as you leaned over.
you felt taiju approach you quietly, resting his forearms onto the railing next to you.
a smile graced your face as you looked at him. “how’s life treating you?” you asked, resting your head on your hands.
taiju smiled, before looking up at the sky. “pretty good. i’m an uncle, if that says anything.” taiju stated.
he pulled out his phone and showed you his lock screen.
it was a picture of a young boy who looked almost exactly like him, but with blue eyes and his younger brother’s eyebrows.
you could tell that it was hakkai’s son.
the two of them were in the picture with smiles on their faces, holding a big scissors as they cut a big blue ribbon in front of the restaurant.
“he’s adorable.” you cooed, growing a smile on your face.
taiju nodded, before closing his phone and stuffing it in his pocket once more.
“how about you? still in school?” taiju asked, looking at you with sudden interest.
you nodded, smiling at him. “last year.” you explained, feeling proud of yourself when you had said it.
taiju clapped lightly, shooting you his boyish grin once more. he always knew you would do well in school.
making him proud was what pushed you to pursue your dreams.
“you’d better invite me to the after party.” taiju joked, looking at you with this soft look in his eyes.
one you hadn’t seen in a long time.
“please. you’re invited to the graduation if you bring the pretty boy.” you shot back, watching him tilt his head back and let out a throaty laugh.
“you wound me.” taiju said, calming down and pressing a big rough hand to his chest.
you rub over his hand playfully, sharing another laugh with your high school sweetheart.
it grew silent once more, save for the sounds of the busy city before you.
“it’s getting late. do you need a ride home?” taiju questioned, looking at you.
you nodded with a smile. “if it isn’t too much?” you asked.
~
riding with taiju felt like you were in high school again.
he now drove a deep blue audi a8 to call his own, instead of his fathers shining white honda civic.
he let the sunroof open for you, and even made sure the car was cool enough for you to enjoy the ride.
the two of you blasted your old favorite songs, and even shared some new ones with each other.
it was just like when you would sneak out in high school.
by time you pulled up in front of your apartment, you stopped and looked at taiju.
taiju was already looking back at you, with a knowing smile.
if anyone knew you better than yourself, it would definitely be the man that sat in front of you today.
“wanna come up? it’s late already.” you suggested, pointing to the building in front of you.
taiju chuckled, before nodding in agreement.
he drove into the parking lot and parked his car, helping you out of the car with a smile.
before you could walk off, he grabbed your wrist and pulled you into his warm embrace.
you wrapped your arms around him, smiling gratefully at him.
“stay with me here. just until the last star disappears.” taiju whispered.
you nodded, repeating the words he had said to you quietly.
that night, the two of you spoke about anything and everything that happened while you were separated from each other.
until the last star disappeared...<3

Takeaways from a long conversation I had with my girlfriend over how the Lackadaisy characters would use the internet in the modern day
- Rocky can't afford a computer.
- Freckle is a gamer and streams, mainly being Ivys idea to begin with. He plays first person shooter games and rages + absolutely obliterates his keyboard on a regular basis, but will play dark souls/skyrim/elden ring-esque games on occasion. Hardly speaks in his streams outside of briefly replying to chat— most of which is Rocky spamming.
- Ivy would be on stan twitter and gets into needlessly heated and vapid arguments online. On the lighter side, she also likes playing minecraft and showing off her builds :) her and freckle sometimes start worlds together and she just builds and makes things look nice while he mines and farms. She'd have a million dogs and cats
- Mitzis a facebook user and hardly anything else...bumps into wick on occasion in the overlap between 'Wine mom' and 'Wine connoisseur' groups. She uses a million emojis after every sentence like this 😁😊💞🕊🌹😚💞☺❤❤
- Sedgewick lurks in really obscure forum boards about insects and minerals and alcohol and such and has a (poorly run) page for his business on Twitter. Like Mitzi, also a Facebook user, but much less so.
- Zib would upload saxophone tutorials on YouTube but in the most awful camera and mic quality of all time. He speaks and all you hear is zzzmzzmmmzzzz. Sometimes uploads recordings of the band playing. They are also like this
- Mordecai doesn't use the internet out of choice, excluding brief bursts of intense research and studying on a niche topic. Has never stepped foot on any social media platform
- Viktor doesn't use the internet often— partially out of choice, partially out of an utter deficit in tech savviness. Ivy tries to explain some things to him and it just won't compute
- On the rare occasion Nico uses the internet, he posts workout routines and fishing videos. He's also often featured on Serafines 'spiritual guidance' channel, which probably leads to a money scam somewhere down the line.

Hello! As someone who really really wants to attempt bookbinding, could I ask how you started? I am very overwhelmed with the amount of materials and equipment bookbinders use and it is not within my budget to get most of them, which is really discouraging :,)
I would love to know some cheap(er) alternatives to certain materials and which materials, in your opinion, is the most essential and worth splurging money on! I particularly have a lot of issues with using leather because it is WAYY out of both my budget and skill level haha!
Additionally, what are some of the reasources you used to learn how to bookbind? :o
Thank you!!! (It's alright if you don't respond to this! I was just wondering :])
hi, hello!!! im sorry for the late reply!!
to start with--i definitely dont use leather for the same reason!! even imitation leather is expensive, and tbh i like the ability to play around with colors and shapes that working primarily with bookcloth and paper affords me. you can either make your own bookcloth using regular fabric, a binder like HeatNBond, and tissue as long as you have an iron--or you can purchase it from places like amazon, hollander's, or other bookbinding supply companies. leather is ~fancy~ shit.
as for essential tools, that sort of depends on what youre trying to set out to do. western "cased" bindings require more material as a baseline, but glue-free bindings like coptics and japanese stabs require much less! really, as long as you have paper, a needle, thread, and cardboard, you can make a book! here are some of the tools i use, as well as some alternatives:
bonefolder(s) - i have two, a "traditional" one and a square angled one, both real bone. this is something i would consider an essential item, because you will use it for almost everything. you can buy a cheap teflon folder at your local craft store, but really anything you can use to crease your pages and evenly tuck your folds would work. a firm piece of plastic, a thick card--hell, a 6in ruler would work!
ruler(s) - god, i have so many rulers, both imperial and metric, in so many different shapes and materials. the ones i use the most are my 12in/30cm double sided metal ruler and my 3x4in/70x100cm double sided metal square, but as long as you have something you will be set. you can find cheap wooden or plastic rulers at your local dollar store!
weights - this includes freestanding weights and a press. while i do use a press, i also have some bricks from my local hardware store that ive wrapped in craft paper (because cleanliness is essential), a mason jar filled with rocks, and a giant stack of cookbooks. i use all of these for different things, but getting a few bricks would probably be your cheapest option; mine were $0.62 each at lowe's, lol! you dont need a press. anything that will get you even, heavy pressure will work!
waxed thread - you can use any sewing thread you want and wax it yourself by running the wax along the thread! small beeswax blocks are relatively inexpensive and will last quite a while, and regular sewing thread won't break the bank. you can certainly buy pre-waxed thread, but making your own works just as well.
awl - i have two awls and a punch cradle, and genuinely none of these are "essential". straight up just stick a sewing needle in a wine cork, bestie, and youve got yourself an awl. punch cradles are also totally optional; just make a guide with some cardstock so you know where to punch your signatures and youre set.
paper - this is the big rabbit hole, of course. fancy handmade papers can get REAL expensive and dont even get me started on procuring paper with the proper grain direction. HOWEVER, im currently using a mid-tier premium "printer" paper as my fill (though ill be switching to proper stuff when i run out) and you can definitely use regular sheets youd find anywhere with only minor issues. as for decorative paper--anything works! regular scrapbook paper is perfectly fine, and you can buy 12x12 booklets online or at your local craft store for cheap--it seems like theres always some on sale.
bookcloth - mentioned above, but making your own is probably the cheapest way to do it! however--bookcloth is only essential if youre doing a cased-in binding imo. if youre doing coptics/stabs/open sewn/glue-free/etc. bindings, you dont need it.
glue - glues are tricky. traditionally people use a combination of paste and PVA. however, you can use whatever glue you want so long as youre okay with the drawbacks of using high-moisture stuff. gluesticks, craft glue, whatever. you can also make your own paste with flour and water! if youre looking for some of the things id recommend getting the "good" version of, though, i would pick PVA. i buy mine by the half-gallon and its worth it, and i actually prefer it over nori paste (what can i say--im impatient! and paste takes 24 hours to dry).
cutting tools - this is the one absolute thing i would recommend getting: a good boxcutter with replaceable blades and a large cutting mat. this is the essential tool of all time, because while you can use scissors its nearly impossible to get a straight line on anything. i have a workpro w011043a, an xacto xz3601, and three pairs of scissors of various lengths--and my workpro is what i reach for the most. cutting mats can run a little expensive, but i cant stress enough how much easier your life will be with an open blade + cutting mat as your primary cutting setup.
chipboard - i use several different thicknesses of greyboard for my covers and spines, but you can genuinely use whatever cardboard you have on-hand. got an amazon box? that works!
of course, this is by no means a comprehensive list of tools--but these are my go-to tools for every bind! a lot of the fancy stuff like edging, foiling, bookmark-making, etc, is totally optional and opting out of those will significantly reduce your overhead costs. you can also start out with the inexpensive stuff and upgrade as needed! bookbinding is daunting and yes it does have a bit of an initial investment, but there are definitely ways to make it work if youd really like to get into the hobby. you can also look at starter kits on etsy, too! theyll often come with some of the essential tools as well as materials to make your first book, so you can try it out to see if youd like the hobby without going ham.
as for resources to get started, here are some of what ive used!! also not comprehensive because everyone is different, but a great place to start.
hope this helps!!!

You're The Gift That Keeps On Giving (Ona Batlle x Reader)
Merry Christmas, internet friends. I hope you enjoy this fic. On a bigger, more important note, please help those in your community this Christmas if you are able to. Many families in all our communities can't afford to have the things we do, to put food on their tables, to give their children nice gifts for Christmas. Help them this year too, if you're able to. I love you all very much. Thank you for an incredible year.
Tumblr media
When Ona moved to Manchester, you'd immediately taken to her. She was kind and funny and smart and her English was terrible. But the way she spoke did something to you. You had a boyfriend when she moved there but had broken up with him when you realized you were developing romantic feelings for Ona. You'd left England last Christmas, hoping a couple weeks at home in Canada would give you some space to clear your head.
But being away only made you miss Ona.
You'd gone back to Manchester unsure what to do next. You didn't date teammates. That was one rule you had never broken before.
It took a few months but eventually, you gave in. You let Ona kiss you one night when she walked you home from a team bonding dinner. She had been so hesitant and you could see the question in her eyes. You'd given her a small nod and she'd wasted no time, pulling you closer for a kiss.
When the topic of Christmas came up, you both were unsure where to go. Both of your parents wanted you to come home this year. And there was no way you could split the holiday between Spain and Canada. You'd both resigned yourself to spending the holiday apart from each other.
But that didn't mean you weren't going to try to squeeze out every Christmasy thing together before you both went home. You'd even made a list of everything you could try to do.
Tonight was your last night in Manchester, and you'd brought Ona to a Christmas market. It was snowing lightly. Just below zero. She'd shown up to your house without gloves or a hat. You'd tsked and put one of your beanies on her head. Much to her dismay, it was bright pink with a pom pom on top. You'd giggled while her cheeks burned bright. But she kept it on, saying your giggle was too cute to refuse. You'd thanked her with a kiss and handed her a pair of gloves to keep her fingers warm.
As you approached the market, you looped your arm through Ona's, tucking your hand into her pocket. Even after multiple winters in England, your Spanish girlfriend still hated the cold. And you knew she'd only agreed to this because you wanted to come.
"What should we do first? Should we get some wine or some food or look around?"
"Can we get some wine? Maybe it'll keep my fingers warm."
"My hand's not doing a good job?" you asked with a smile.
"But what about my other hand?" she asked, taking her other hand out of her pocket and wiggling her fingers.
"Oh yes, of course. We can't forget about that hand as well." You grabbed her hand and brought it your lips, making her blush. "Come on. Let's get some wine." You'd looked at the map online and memorized it. Most people thought it was weird that you did things like that. Ona didn't mind. Ona always said it made things easier because you would know where to go without having to look it up on the spot.
She made all your weird traits seems normal.
While you waited in the line for wine, you stood facing Ona. Her hands were tucked so far into her pockets you thought her hands might actually tear holes in the coat. You rubbed your hands up and down her arms, hoping to warm her a little. She stepped closer into you. Smiling, you kissed her cheek and wrapped an arm around her to hold her close. You kept her against you as you moved up the line and tucked her under your arm when you ordered the wines.
"Ready to walk around?" you asked Ona, after she'd had a few sips of her wine. Wrapping both hands around her glass, she smiled and nodded. "Do you need a snack?" She shook her head. "Okay. Let's go." You wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her in close to your side.
There were dozens of booths set up. Everything from handmade mittens to ornaments to baked goods to toys filled the tables. People happily looked around, children ran in between everything, couples walked hand in hand. You let Ona lead you over to a booth of ornaments.
"I had a thought," she started. You squeezed her hip to tell her to keep going. "What if we get a new ornament together every year?" she asked, shyly.
"I love that idea," you said, smiling. Leaning down, you kissed her cheek. "Any of them catch your eye?" She pointed at one and you laughed seeing which one she'd chosen. "Should've known," you said as she picked up the Manchester United themed ornament.
"It's how we met. We should honor that, no?"
"Yes, we should," you said beaming. While the ornament was wrapped up, you tipped Ona's chin up with your finger and kissed her softly. "I'm so lucky you're mine." You ran a finger down her nose, wiping some snow away. She smiled up at you and kissed your chin. As you handed over a few bills and put the ornament in your bag, you thought about how happy you were that Ona wanted to spend next Christmas and the Christmas after and the Christmas after that with you. Even though you'd been together less than a year, it felt so real. She felt like your forever person.
As you continued along, you tried not to let the feeling of love you had for her overwhelm you. You could feel it warming your entire chest, tightening your throat. Tears threatened the back of your eyes.
As you were caught up in your thoughts, Ona suddenly pulled you over to a booth in the corner. Looking up you saw a sign with a bunch of toy and bread images. There were no customers at this booth, a stark contrast to all the others where dozens of people crowded into one.
"Hi. Can you tell me what this is?" Ona asked the young boy standing on the other side.
"Hi," he said with a smile. "We're selling these boxes." He pointed to a stack of wrapped boxes behind him. "Each box has a few toy gifts for children and enough food for a family of four for a week. There are many families in this country that can't afford food, let alone gifts and we try to get these boxes to as many of them as we can."
"What happens if you don't sell the boxes?"
"We still donate them. These boxes are meant for families and children in need. They go to them whether our community helps us pay for them or not."
While they discussed how much each box cost, you looked down at Ona. She was the most incredible woman you'd ever met. You already knew she would be buying the boxes. You could see it on her face as soon as the boy had told her what they were. She'd never let anyone go hungry if she could help it. She'd never let anyone be unhappy on Christmas if she could help it.
It didn't surprise you one bit when you heard, "I'll buy them all." But the boy was flustered and you couldn't help but giggle a little. His face flushed red as he asked if she was sure. He fumbled for the credit card machine when she said yes.
Later that night, after more hours walking around in the cold with Ona, you bundled her into a blanket on your couch and turned the fireplace on while you made hot chocolate for her. You knew she liked the little snowflake sprinkles so you'd made sure to buy some the last time you went to the shop.
Her nose was still slightly red when you sat down in front of her and handed her the mug.
"Thank you, mi amor." She took a sip of the drink and smiled at you over it. "I like the sprinkles."
"I know." You rubbed a hand over her arm. "Are you starting to warm up, my little snow angel?"  She nodded. You put the back of your hand against her cheek to see. Satisfied that she seemed to be coming back to her normal temperature, you dropped your hand.
"This has been the best year," she said. Putting her mug down, she took your hands in hers. "I love you so much, Y/N."
"I love you, too, Ona." You leaned towards her for a kiss, smiling when her cold fingers found your cheek. "I can't wait to spend every Christmas with you, love." Wrapping your arms around her, you cuddled closer to her. The Manchester United ornament glinted on the tree over her shoulder, catching your eye. It brought a huge smile to your face, causing you to bury your head in Ona's neck.
You might have to spend Christmas away from your love but you were happy with the knowledge that you would be able to come back to each other afterwards. That you both wanted to come back to each other. For always.

MDZS summer vacation headcannons
...because it's so warm and sunny outside that it makes me think of the seaside
Warnings: some suggestive implications bc it's wangxian, ofc they're going to be horny
Under the cut because it got long
"Lan Zhan, we should go to beach some time soon!" Wei Ying says in passing as they're drinking their coffees one morning.
"Mn. We will."
Next day LWJ gives WWX a three-fingers-wide file with suggestions for destinations, hotels, fun things to do and reviews from several reputable websites.
It's color coded, laminated, with high quality pictures of rooms and amenities.
"We could have just looked online, Lan Zhan."
"You told me you prefer to read on paper and take notes rather than use a screen. If I can make it easier for you, I will."
It's all 5 star hotels with scenic views and luxury packages only. All the best for Wei Ying, no holds barred.
"Lan Zhan, why are there no prices in this file?"
"Prices do not matter, Wei Ying, I can afford anything for you."
What a man
There are also transportation options, all of them super fancy and customizable
"...a private jet?"
"It is a lot more convenient than commercial airlines, Wei Ying. Flights to our destination are overcrowded and at difficult times of the day for you to wake up at."
"You want to rent a private jet just so I don't have to wake up early?"
"Yes."
What a man x 2
(He also wants to rent the jet so he gets to comfortably join the mile high club with Wei Ying but that's a secret)
Anyways
Once at the fancy resort, they become the talk of the town
Hotel staff loves them
They never tip below 100$, they're both nice and respectful and LWJ glares down entitled Karens whenever they're in his earshot at the restaurant/reception/pool etc. until they shut up
Amazing guests 10/10, staff at other hotels is envious not having had them as clients
The top Google search of the week in the area is "single Lan men"
Everyone knows the super rich and super nice couple living in the presidential suite must be protected at all costs (and spoiled rotten)
They get so much complimentary wine and chocolate that they pack some of it to bring home and gift it to friends and relatives
There's always fresh flower arrangements and various trinkets awaiting them after they return from the beach or from visiting the area
Speaking of
Going to the beach is the only time when WWX willing wakes up early
He likes watching the sunrise
They have such a big beach bag
What do they even carry in there, it's like 10kg
"Lan Zhan, how much sunscreen did you even pack?"
"5 bottles. There are also 2 bottles of tanning oil, 5 towels, three charges, a power bank, money, two changes of clothes... and two bottles of lube."
LWJ is very forward-thinking, you see
The hotel has a private beach and the private beach has a VIP area - LWJ rents it all out so he and WWX get some privacy to enjoy the sun, sand and sea (and the sex)
They rent one of those fancy beach beds with a canopy (like this one) because just laying a towel on the sand is boring
Cocktails. So many cocktails
Bar staff has so much fun making them because WWX obviously knows his way around alcohol so he suggests all sorts of fun mixes and ingredients, it's a whole thing
LWJ quietly sips his mocktails and watches in adoration
(No alcohol for him until later in the day because he gets super light headed in the sun after alcohol and becomes an un-Lan clumsy mess) totally not projecting lmao wdym
None of the fancy apparel stops WWX from building sand castles and collecting seashells to give to LWJ as courting gifts like a crow
"Lan Zhan, do you think I could catch some fish if I dive fast enough?"
"Lan Zhan, look! A crab! It looks like your uncle!"
"Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan, I think there are dolphins a bit farther out, let's rent a boat so we go see them!"
They do rent a boat, a small yacht to be more exact
LWJ knows how to sail and WWX suddenly can't be bothered with anything but how good his husband looks doing it
(They end up, um, rocking the boat before they even get to see any marine life)
They also rent jet skis
They race each other and do all sorts of fancy tricks to show off
The rest of the beachgoers are bewitched watching them
(It's a whole mating dance for them but people just think they're super competitive or something)
"Hey Lan Zhan do you think we can go far enough so nobody can see us and you fuck me on this jet ski?"
"Wei Ying."
"What, it would be fun!"
(It was)
(Why are they so horny)
The whole time is basically spent fucking after doing various holiday activities
Buying souvenirs? Fucking in the hotel afterwards
Having dinner? Fucking in the restaurant bathroom if the room is too far out
Romantic sunset walking on the beach? Fucking against some rocks after it gets dark (because sand is annoying and gets in unsavory places)
They take so many pictures
WWX posts almost everything on his socials and it's annoying
(nobody dares say anything bc LWJ would doxx them)
They end up stumbling upon some beach party at some point and ofc WWX wants to join in
The hosts are nice and a bit drunk so they agree, LWJ buys everyone shots and the party stretches until the morning
(WWX enjoys dancing and teasing LWJ about it but LWJ gives him the "you'll pay for this when we get back home" look and he knows it's worth it)
"Lan Zhan, let's go swim, I've always wanted to do it in the dark!"
(They do it. Oh, they also swim)
Everyone back home gets a little gift/souvenir thing which translates into an extra 3 luggage bags for LWJ to carry
"We definitely need to do this again, I had so much fun!"
LWJ takes out his laptop immediately and WWX starts laughing.
"Not that soon, Lan Zhan!"
(It is that soon, they basically have a redo of their honeymoon. It's great)
