I feel like there's not enough love for the delightfully silly and mundane parts of worldbuilding, like using your superpowers to heat your coffee, or navigating the subway station in a city of monsters without getting your soul sucked out through your face hole.

The first draft of Book One of The Bishop of Black is finally finished! Look at this absolute unit of a first book. My husband has the first printed copy for editing (and soon I'll have mine) so that we can tear it to shreds and make it even better. It's been an incredible trip so far, and there's more to come. For those of you not in the know, The Bishop of Black is a queer high fantasy novel that follows:
a trans woman trying to solve the murder of one of her partners while upholding her responsibilities as a royal medic
ANOTHER trans woman trying to work off a debt in service to the dangerous White Court where political missteps can be fatal
a hopelessly romantic gay cis man desperate to prove himself in battle and in love
an immortal trans man who is edging closer and closer to the end of his rope.
And the rest of the cast is primarily queer and definitely colorful. If this sounds like your jam, you can check us out on Patreon, or here on Tumblr at @bishopofblack. The entire first draft of Book One will soon be available absolutely free, so please support us as we pursue this wild dream that is indie publishing!

i re-discovered an old @flashfictionfridayofficial prompt draft in my folder. it was almost finished, so i have no idea why it’s taken me this long to post it, but <3 here we are
side effects
Curses have side effects. Briar Rose knows this all too well.
When Briar sees the spindle, something like relief fills her chest.
She’s never seen one before—her father outlawed them not long after her birth. But she recognizes it… just as she recognizes it isn’t meant to be here.
She draws closer anyway.
She hasn’t been at the castle very long. The fairies brought her here only recently; in celebration of her eighteenth birthday. Nearly eighteen years without falling victim to the curse. They all thought it was a miracle—and that meant it was time, at long last, to meet her parents.
She knew them, a bit. They traded letters back and forth. Once or twice they had stopped in at the cottage. But they were distant figures. She never knew them as well as she would like. Getting to visit, finally, has been a treat.
She’s almost sorry it’s being cut short.
Briar kneels by the spindle. The room is clearly abandoned. Thick white sheets cover the furniture—what little of it there is. The hearth is cold. A slight draft comes in through the window; a hole somewhere left unfilled, with no one here to notice it. A thick layer of dust covers the room—she has to breath carefully, so as not to sneeze.
But the spindle sits, almost new, glossy and shining in the moonlight.
She runs the tip of her finger, lightly, over the glossy wood.
“Come for me at last, haven’t you?” she murmurs to the empty room.
The curse placed upon her as a babe has haunted her her entire life—even before she knew it for what it was. She’s spent a hundred, a thousand sleepless nights; tossing and turning, counting sheep forward and back, staring at the ceiling until her mind was numb with boredom and her body ached. Sleep only ever comes to her in fleeting, brief moments. Never more than a handful of hours—and that’s if she’s lucky.
The fairies never understood.
Learning about the curse was like the clouds breaking on a rainy day. A hundred years of sleep awaited her; a fate etched into her bones, known to her body if not her mind. Of course sleep eluded her now.
It didn’t make the fatigue any less, or any easier to push through… but knowing the cause was like a weight lifted from her.
Briar stands. Now, a spindle has appeared before her, on the night before her eighteenth birthday.
And the thing is… Briar could ignore it. She could turn around and walk away, pretend as if she hadn’t seen it.
But.
She doesn’t want to.
She has never known a life without exhaustion; never known what it was like to really, truly, rest. But she wants to. Oh, she wants to. Will it be as freeing as she imagines? As she dreams?
There is, in the end, only one way to find out.
And perhaps it’s selfish. Perhaps it is even cruel. Perhaps she will wake up, a hundred years from now, and guilt will sit in her stomach like rocks.
Now, in this moment… Briar doesn’t care.
She pricks her finger on the spindle.

A romantic tragedy in a high fantasy setting.
tropes
Lovers to Enemies, Hot for Teacher, Rivals to Lovers, Found Family, Affably Evil, Everyone Is Queer, and (of course) The Chessmaster.
summary
In a nation torn by a war that has been waged for centuries, tensions run high as the Kingdoms of Black and White seem to be on the verge of a lasting peace after generations of strife and bloodshed. Femi, a medic in the Kingdom of Black, is swept up into the dangerous politics of the court after a horrible tragedy returns them to the brink of war.
features
So Many Queers. Our story begins with Femi, who in her infinite wisdom has two boyfriends who are also seeing each other. Our characters are mature, profoundly queer, and about to make some questionable life choices. Polyamory. Who needs a love triangle when you have two hands? Gorgeous Art. Each chapter we release has beautiful, full-color cover art by @rosieartsie. At Least One (1) Individual For Your Cat Carrier. You can take your pick, this story contains a bouquet of ladies, gentlemen, gentlethems, and others unrestricted by the bonds of the gender binary, many of them fit to be placed inside your proverbial cat carrier. Including but not limited to: + a man with so many lethal secrets it is frankly irresponsible of him to enter into intimate relationships + a tender-hearted knight-in-training who falls in love so easily it puts him in literal peril of his life + an anxious spymaster who responds not unlike a fainting goat when flirted with + a catman + an arguably more anxious aide who can’t stop attracting the attention of horrifyingly powerful people + Dreigas
content warnings
M/18+ for violence, gore, seriously toxic relationships, death

✩•̩̩͙˚ Writeblr Introduction ˚•̩̩͙✩
Hello dear Traveler, it’s your chaotic Prinxe. The name’s Ares Cross (they/xe/ey)! I am new to writeblr, but not new to writing as a whole. I’m a writer, artist and overall creative!
I write adult fiction, specifically in the genres of fantasy, sci-fi, romance and adventure. Currently my main projects are a sci-fantasy book and a fantasy romance book.
I read mostly fantasy and sci-fi with a large dose of romance in whatever book I pick up. My favorite books currently are Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros, and For Brown Girls with Sharp Edge and Tender Hearts by Prisca Dorcas Mojica Rodriguez. My favorite shows are Supernatural, Castlevania, Arcane and Good Omens.
I am currently a full-time university student and a part-time writer. I am working on my first novel The World Beyond the Naked Eye which is this year’s NaNoWriMo project! I will be introducing the project soon too!
Happy Halloween Everyone!

WORLDBUILDING THROUGH CULTURE
Writing a Secondary World book or series, and need some help constructing your setting?
Worldbuilding is more than just maps!
Creating a believable secondary world, with consistent internal logic, language, taboos, and politics can be tricky.
Luckily, this workbook is here to help you devise the best possible setting for your #SFF story.
Based on a lecture series I used to do one be before the pandemic, this is a workbook that's really meant and designed to WORK.
Write in it, paste in pictures, doodle, add extra notes or change your mind and erase things!

I Have Gay Dragons!
A question came up about the presence of LGBTQIA+ dragons in my book, and the answer is yes! Within the pages of my stories, you'll encounter dragons who identify as gay and those who are part of loving polyamorous relationships. While the first installment may focus primarily on these aspects, rest assured that my upcoming books will introduce a diverse array of dragon characters, including lesbians, asexuals, bisexuals, and many more from the LGBTQIA+ spectrum. So, get ready for an abundance of LGBTQIA+ dragon representation in my tales!

⚔️Tip for writing armoured combat: ⚔️
Plate armour was typically thicker over the vitals (the front) then thinner on the sides. It could have been partly because of weight, but also because generally your arms would cover the area anyways.

If you like my fanfiction, please consider checking out my books. It's been a rough couple of months over here between barely making ends meet, and near-constant chronic illness issues. Any sale or pages read on Kindle Unlimited is a huge help, and will be greatly appreciated <3
If you need some kind of intro to my horror before you dive in, I have been featured three times on the podcast Scare You To Sleep! The episodes where my stories have been featured can be found here:
And, finally, a direct link to my books can be found here:

Time for a fresh new introduction! I have exactly one banner which I repeatedly alter to suit my needs, so please enjoy it. I've really stepped into this modern era. I have many names, but here, you can call me Harrowben.
Tumblr media
30's. They/them and he/hymn. Biracial. Nonbinary transgender. Polyamorous. Skeleton. BA English Language and Literature. Probably not but possibly two-time Academy Award Winner Guillermo del Toro. (I wrote a text post that got remarkably out of hand one time.)
Tumblr media
I’m a bookseller day-to-day. I’m also (slowly) learning to bind books. Sometimes, I even try to write them. Occasionally, when the mood takes me, I also write fanfiction. I like to make digital layouts for books, and of course I love to read! Books are my whole life. I'm a trained editor, and like most everyone these days, I am for hire. Check out my OC x Canon Emporium, but honestly, feel free to inquire if you're looking for some fiction. Words are what I do. Catch me ramblings about original work and characters, skeletons (of course!), bookbinding, and book arts, spooky nonsense, nature being its beautiful terrible self, monsters and the people who love them, that sort of thing. I do reblog fandom things from time to time, chiefly when the aesthetic vibes well with mine, or when the brainrot becomes too severe to contain.
If you need anything tagged, feel free to reach out, anon or otherwise. It’s important to me that my blog is as safe and comfy as it can be.

BIGOTED SHIT. I CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH HOW MUCH YOU SHOULD FUCK OFF IF YOU'RE A FASCIST PIECE OF SHIT. This was initially a placeholder so I would remember what I wanted to make so abundantly clear, but I stand by it. TERFs and Nazi Punks fuck off. There's no place for you with me. Better yourself.

The Bishop of Black
Honestly, my pride and joy. The Bishop of Black is an ongoing and deeply queer high-fantasy light novel that I'm writing together with my husband @rosieartsie who does all of the incredible art.
Check out our reading guide, if you like.
RAVENOT
My most developed WIP. A dark fantasy novel about a skeleton knight who ventures into places where the living can never go, to safeguard the balance between life and death. You can read the first chapter for free here!
