i know everyone is really excited for the oblivion remake because i was too. oblivion was the first real video game i ever played when i was a kid, and is literally the reason i am a gamer today, but BDS has called for a microsoft boycott, and that includes anything made by bethesda.
this isn't just a "oh they have some obscure business partnerships in isr*el" or "oh they donate to this or that lobby" sort of boycott either, although those are important too. my tone is not meant to be flippant about them, but rather i want to emphasize the gravity of how microsoft directly and deliberately contributes to the palestinian death toll daily, in a way that is uniquely cruel and complicit.
microsoft has had a $35 million dollar contract with the isr*eli military since 2002. they provide cloud storage for surveillance data of gazan civillians, and an artificial intelligence program called a "mass assassination factory" to assist in planning and targeting their attacks, many of which are on civilians or involve mass civilian casualties.
microsoft's service agreements with the isr*eli military also includes the CPU responsible for the military's tech infrastructure, military intelligence units that develop spy technology used against palestinians and lebanese, the maintenance of the palestinian population registry that tracks and (illegally) limits the movement of palestinains in the west bank and gaza, their air force targeting database, and much more. they work closely with isr*eli military intelligence agencies on surveillance systems used to monitor palestians, provide specialized consulting, technical and engineering support, hosts training software for the IOF, provide financial support to organizations based in the illegally occupied west bank, and have repeatedly invested in isr*eli start ups specializing in war technology.
in 2020, internal and external pressure forced microsoft to pull out of its 74 million dollar investment in an isr*eli company that violated international law due to its use of facial recognition technology for military surveillance.
in 2021, microsoft signed a new, 3-year contract with the isr*eli ministry of defense worth $133 million dollars. the isr*eli military is microsoft's second largest military customer. the first? the united states.

The Geneva-based Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor (Euro-Med) released a report on 30 April urging an investigation into Israel’s potential use of illegal thermal weapons. “An international committee of experts must be established to look into the weapons Israel has been using as part of its genocide in the Gaza Strip … including the potential use of bombs that produce such high heat that victims’ bodies evaporate,” the Euro-Med report said. The rights group cites testimonies received from Gaza which revealed a “horrific new level of killing in the Strip.” The bodies of Palestinian victims appear to have been vaporized by the weapons Israel used against residential buildings. “Thousands of victims remain missing, either because it was impossible to recover them from under the debris in light of insufficient equipment and technical know-how, or because their bodies were either hidden by the Israeli army or no longer exist,” the Euro-Med report reads. The report continues to say, “A number of the victims killed in these horrifying Israeli raids on residential buildings have vanished and may have turned to ashes, raising questions about the type of bombs used in the attacks.” Thermobaric weapons, also referred to as vacuum bombs, are two-stage munitions. The first charge disperses a fine aerosol cloud of materials ranging from carbon-based fuel to metal particles. The second charge ignites the materials used, creating a fireball, shock wave, and vacuum as it sucks up the surrounding oxygen. The blast from these weapons can last significantly longer than conventional explosives, enabling it to vaporize human bodies. Mass graves in Gaza hospitals previously raided by Israel show that civil defense staff found “bodies without skin,” according to Gaza’s Government Media Office. According to the Euro-Med report, “The Hague Conventions of 1899 and 1907, the Geneva Conventions of 1949, and international humanitarian law all forbid the use of thermal bombs against civilians in populated civilian areas. The Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court also classifies the use of thermal bombs as a war crime.” Israel has also illegally deployed white phosphorus weapons on civilians and civilian infrastructure in Gaza and Lebanon. According to a Washington Post analysis, the white phosphorus munitions used in Lebanon’s south were supplied to Israel by the US. Palestine’s Agricultural Work Committees Union said that Israel intentionally uses chemical weapons on farmlands in the Gaza Strip to contaminate its soil, posing an increased cancer risk to farmers.

Start note: Here’s a story idea I had , inspired by videos of people exploring abandoned houses and cities.

“But why would they abandon it like that?”, Nine wondered, passing a gloved hand over the spine of the dust covered books stacked on the desk in messy towers.
The library was a mess of broken furniture, empty food containers and various manuscripts dating as far back as the early nineteenth century.
Adem adjusted his spectacles and hummed as the machine in his grip began to beep. After scanning the tiny monitor, he frowned and clicked his tongue.
“Asbestos.” He pulled the scarf he wore around his neck over his nose and quickly moved to the entryway. “Let’s go now, still air can be deadly.”

Summary
Adem had been a normal guy, truly! He never dreamt of living a ‘science fiction-worthy’ life.
He went trough high school, finished a technical degree in engineering and had gotten to work for one of the greatest tech companies of his country…up until it called for bankruptcy.
As he lived in a very small town, with his job gone, Adem had to re-specialize. He worked both as a plumber and an electrician through his thirties, when one day, his team was asked to inspect a condemned factory site.
The government planned to tear it down and have brand new infrastructures build over it,they sent a letter requesting an inspection and help to remove the water damage from the abandoned building. But, they omitted a crucial detail regarding the kind of factory it had been.
Upon investigation, the crew discovered massive water tanks which had been converted into pools of Stillwater with time. While on break, Adem had the unfortunate idea of inspecting said pools from up close taking pictures for their collective report. He took a wrong step on the slippery metal ladder and fell right into the murky, amoeba infested waters.
Once he resurfaced, however, he realized that the setting had changed entirely. He was now in a strange, post apocalyptic version of his world with half barren lands and abandoned cities.
Two ideas popped into his mind:
a) This is a dream, and he is in a coma while his brain is being devoured by predatory unicellular lifeform.
b) This is real, and he somehow ended up in an alternate dimension…or timeline?
Stuck in a place with no certain way out, Adem decides to explore, searching high and low for a clue about how to return home. That is how he ends up meeting Nine (NEE-nə), a lost teenager with inexplicably blue hair who claimed to have also fallen into the strange pools of water.
Together they brave the unknown, surviving in a broken version of what they knew as planet earth while seeking for the means to return to the right place in time.
Meanwhile, back ‘home’, Marwa and Indira, two brilliant sisters who studied in science fields, are working with the government on a project regarding the development of sustainable energy through nuclear power. When their branch was closed off and abandoned six years prior due to a ‘freak accident’, they had been relocated to a different facility…yet the memory of the dangerous waters remained, hanging like a cloud over their heads.
Story insights
-> The story begins centered around Adem Riddley, then it branches out as new characters are introduced into the plot. Out of the eight characters , Adem, Alec, Marwa, Nine and Indira may have the most attention in the plot.
-> It is mainly adventure, sci-fi and post-apocalyptic, with a touch of found family.
->Adem, Alec and Nine all have their names misspelled/mispronounced by other people(Nine especially).
->Nine is AroAce. 🧡💛🤍🩵💙
->Potential romantic and platonic pairings in the story among the adult protagonists.
End note: I haven’t found an ending sequence yet , but I will think of something if I am to ever make this into a short novel.
