#Commission horror story

Y'all have heard of commission horror stories where artists talk about wild ass clients they've had, but I've got a story I just remembered that's actually not about a client but another artist.

This happened several years ago, but I was commissioned to design a monster character that was taur-styled with the top half semi-humanoid and the bottom half full creature. The monster was loosely based on an animal with several other requested elements mixed in. The client loved the end design, and other artists the client had commed to draw this character also liked it!

But then there was one artist in particular that the client commed to draw this character....

Their art was lovely, but their comment about the character was garbage. They literally did an 'Um, actually, the anatomy on the original design was wrong so I fixed it 'cause I own xyz animal and know better' and just tore the design apart but....the animal they owned and 'fixed' the anatomy of the character to match wasn't even the same animal the character was based on! I shit you not this artist tried to pull anatomy superiority and didn't even have the right animal- and I repeat, this was a monster character which wouldn't have realistic anatomy to begin with 😭 Like, dude, chill ain't no need for that behavior

I just hope that artist, wherever they're at now, learned to keep comments like that to themselves or the very least private. Tearing apart another artist like that unwarranted is hella unprofessional and just garbage, especially when the client just wants the art they paid for and not a nasty attitude like that along with it. And for clarity, this artist and I never interacted so it wasn't as if this was from personal beef, they literally shit on my design for no damn reason 🥴 smh

Art Stream Story Time:

Stream-drawing last night, some person asks if I could draw something. Was like "well what are you trying for?"

They go "Discord is easier"

I look up the current popular discord vulnerabilities and send up my username.

On discord they send me a rough draft of a comic page. It's pretty neat, a little crowded, but it'd be some fun practice. I say "okay, it's a big ask, but I wanna do it. Can you give me a week?"

"Can you start right now?" First flag.

"it's late where I'm at, I've got work tomorrow. How much detail are you going for here?" A few minutes pass.

They clip a specific part of the comic and say "just start here." Second Flag, but maybe they just need some boundaries laid out for them.

"Hey bud, you're being a bit demanding here. I'm not gonna be able to finish that quick."

"Well I just wanna make sure you don't forget to do this BUD." Third Flag. Cool, toxic person. Blocked on Discord and on Stream.

I've oft seen stories like this from other artists, and I've always believed them...experiencing one is something else.

Gonna make my commissions page tonight I think. Properly establish boundaries.

Pricing: $20 per 1,000 words.

Length: For now, the most I'll do is 5,000 words. You will not be charged extra if I go over the limit. If you want more than 5,000

Ex: You want 5,000 wc and it hits 5,626 wc? No extra charge.

Genre Limits: None, but I prefer fantasy (dark fantasy especially), mystery, thriller, horror, and suspense.

Don'ts:

NSFW of underage ships, fluff is fine.

I requested a commission from @beefarrn to draw my Tav and their sister from my fanfic and OMGGGG HE DOES SUCH AMAZING WORK!!!!!!! Highly, highly, highly recommend his work!!! So easy to work with and saw my vision 10000%!!!

I know Tav’s sister was *ahem* a bit much in the fic so far, but I swear they’re very close for Drow siblings!
