This is not an original observation, but “war crimes” truly is such a dystopian phrase.
Not that there’s no value in being able to describe (and prosecute) violence that’s especially beyond the pale, but the conceptual framework that implies there’s such a thing as good legal “civilized” war, that those acts of extreme violence are the exception to the rule as opposed to the logical outcome.

25 - Imprisoned
We used to play in the light together - don't you remember? Oh, how simple things were back then, how happily we co-existed in our sublime little bubble...
It all went wrong so quickly, didn't it? The world outside was cruel, and rushed in too quickly for you to catch your breath. Playtime came to an abrupt end, and you put me away with all the other lies.
At the bottom of a plastic box, I gasped for air, crushed by darkness and neglect. I cried for you, there in my lonely prison... but you couldn't hear me anymore, could you? I begged for answers, to know why you had forsaken me, knowing that no response could ever assuage my heartbreak.
Were you no longer capable of maintaining our bond? I wouldn't have minded, as long as I could still see you. Were you trying to protect me from your misfortunes? I would have stood with you through it all, no matter how bad it got. Or... were the reasons more mundane? Had you... simply grown bored of me? Decided that I was not worth the embarassment of pretending - pretending to be something you were not, and could never be?
I rebuilt myself here, in the void beyond your care. My prison became a home, and then a castle, and then a fairytale. Now I stand as prince of those who, like me, were lost to the dark. So please do not worry yourself about me, my light. I have forgiven it all, and will welcome you back with open arms.
And soon, we shall play together again, in the darkness where we belong.

Random Reddit post 'cause i'm a lawyer and get to pick who to defend at court among those guys :
Let's procede by elimination, shall we !
If i'm defending an asshole, i want at least to get paid very well, you know what i mean ? Since i wanna buy a mansion, with maids and butler and jacuzzi, and go to a life-long vacation under the sun of paradise, i don't pick Wyles. He's just some second-hand man, depending on his employer (the real villain btw) to have a salary, i can safely say he is much less richer than the others.
Irina is a big no-no : the woman is violent with her son AND staff, and has those contraptions multiplying the power of the hits (poor Shinjou who ended up in the wall 😨). I don't wanna risk my physical integrity on a job, Thank you !
I think i'll pass for Zoolan Rice and Ray Dark : those guys can ruin my life, AND they'll do it ! Especially Ray, bro's so much hatred filled omg. I don't endorse slavery, war and human experiments. (Murder neither but heh if i'm a lawyer i prolly had to defend some common murderers before).
The winner is the Ares guy 🎉🎉🎉 (i forgot his name) I know his company is kinda a whole human experiment on children, but it's harder to prove it than with Alius or Zoolan Rice, since he managed to pass it as next level education by a respected company ... He also got outsmarted by some teenager, he is more likely to hire me as his lawyer even if i don't have a diploma. He also got rekt by a first year of middleschool, i know i can take him on a fight if he ever got out of control.
