A thing I'm proud of in Terminal is how every Crash (major story arcs) is, in their own ways, about someone challenging the things your characters hold dear.
Curations of The Archivist is someone suggesting that without a purpose there's no reason to live.
Tortures of The Killer is arguing that your connections make you weak instead of strong.
The Dying Dream is saying that you can never really leave the past behind.

Multiplied by 0 is someone saying everything that makes you yourself can be overwhelmed and consumed.

Corruptions of The Passenger is someone saying you don't know what you really need.
Sailor's Warning is someone arguing you can't be trusted.
Ending these Crashes (and eventually ending the game) isn't just about winning a fight. It's about proving a point. It's about telling someone to fuck off. It's about showing people who hate you that everything they believe in is wrong.
You can follow the pre-launch for the Kickstarter over here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ratwave/terminal-a-digital-pirate-action-rpg
We launch on July 20th. All the art here is by Gormengeist.
#indie ttrpg#game design#ttrpg#digital pirate action#the matrix#cyberpunk#feeling a bit of crowdfunding anxiety today so every follow will make me feel better#but yeah Terminal is in a lot of ways a game about surviving coercive control

Hi, I'm doing a thing to help raise some money for my husband's hysterectomy. He's gonna need some time off work to recover, so I'd like to do something entertaining to help shore up finances to compensate for the time he'll be off. If this sounds like your jam, come on by, even if you don't want to/can't throw money at us. It's bound to be a fun time with the best community on the internet =D

so I’ve been gaining a lot of insight into the animation industry recently, especially in regards to pitching & the creation of new shows. There’s a few ways to go about it.
First, there’s pitching to a studio. When you pitch, it has to be SHORT and CONCISE. You may write a lovingly detailed pitch bible that perfectly breaks down episodes and characterizations, and it might barely even get read. First impressions, first impressions, first impressions!
Most peoples’ first projects don’t get picked up. I’ve heard a few stories from directors that said they tried pitching a story they’d had for years, which got rejected, to then spend a week or even several hours in their car coming up with a new idea, only for that to get greenlit.
But that’s not the end of it. Just because a show gets greenlit, doesn’t mean it will ever get finished. There’s lots of things that can happen. Sometimes, unexpected major world events (like… a global pandemic) can cause projects to get chopped. Sometimes, a CEO change or studio merge means a single person can decide a project “no longer fits with the company’s brand.” Sometimes, the one producer that was rooting for your project gets laid off, and no one else cares enough, so it gets shelved. Sometimes, a streaming service decides to create an animation department, and then they decide they don’t want it anymore. Sometimes, the studio will be simultaneously be developing another project that was too similar to yours and they just didn’t think to tell you until they decide yours is the one with less potential.
On top of that, almost everyone in the industry is saying that “studios just don’t pick up original content anymore.” Studios want something they can franchise, something that will bring in money. New content is risky. Established fanbases are safer.
However! Studios can still be a very good thing. They can be unionized. They can provide better benefits and resources. They can have connections and infrastructure and a larger volume of workers. At a studio, you can divide the labor and produce more in less time. Longer episodes, longer seasons, more consistency in quality.
But this comes with all of the disadvantages of having more in the kitchen.
The alternative is indie animation.
With indie animation, you have total freedom. Full artistic control. It doesn’t even matter if your idea sucks ass, because there’s no one to tell you you can’t make it. You could make it anyway, and you can make it whatever you wanted.
The thing is, making animation is hard. In my production class last semester, the average maximum animation one person could make in that timeframe was 30-60 seconds, and that’s not even counting background design, sound design, or cleanup/color. To make a 5 minute animated short, you should probably have at least 5 people.
And it is CRUCIAL you have a production manager. Ideally someone who’s not already doing art for the project. Most projects without a production manager will fall apart pretty quickly. Once the adrenaline and impulse-fueled motivation wears off, you need someone to hold you accountable and enforce deadlines and proper time management.
Speaking of time, that’s also hard to get. The more people you have, the more likely schedules won’t line up. Most people will have school, or other jobs.
And it costs MONEY!!!!!! You either have everyone work for free and volunteer their time & energy, or you establish a business as a proper indie studio, with people who may or may not have experience on how to handle paying someone elses salary. And the money has to come from somewhere, so you have to rely on crowdfunding like patreon or kickstarter. (This, by the way, is why I could never fault an indie animation for releasing merch with their pilot.)
And like, maybe you wanna do a series, and all your friends agree to volunteer their labor and time to make the first episode, but it was unanimously not sustainable. Deciding not to produce a second episode until you can raise enough money is not being suddenly greedy, it’s attempting to compensate people rather than expecting them to be continuously taken advantage of.
You have to consider your output as well. There are some outliers like Worthikids, who afaik does all his animation himself, and afaik can work on it full-time thanks to his patreon subscribers. And he still has only produced a total of 30 minutes of animation (for Big Top Burger specifically) in the past 4 years. This is an IMPRESSIVE feat and this is with using a lot of 3D as part of his pipeline!!
Indie animation also has the complication of being more accessible for fandoms. When you’re posting your Official Canon Content on youtube, it doesn’t look a lot different than the fandom-created video essay in the sidebar next to it. What’s canon vs what’s fanon becomes less distinguishable. The boundaries are blurrier. When the creator is just some guy you follow on twitter, it’s easier to prod them for info regarding ships and theories and word-of-god confirmation. They don’t have a PR team or entire international tv networks to appeal to. And this is when creators get frustrated that their fans snowball and turn their creation into something they don’t recognize (and no longer enjoy) anymore.
So it’s tricky.
Thankfully, the threshold to learn animation is fairly low nowadays!! There are TONS of resources online to learn it on your own without forking over a couple hundred thousand to a private art college. There are conventions and discord servers and events where you can network, if you know where to look.
I know it can seem discouraging in the face of capitalism, but I think that’s all the more reason why it’s so important to BE DETERMINED about animation!! We’re already starting to see the beginning of an indie animation boom, and I think it’s a testament to humanity’s desire to tell stories and create art. Even if there’s no financial gain, we do whatever it takes to tell our stories anyway.
#animation#2d animation#indie animation#long post#not 100% sure why I made this post#all this to say: I’m still not sure what direction I want to go towards for my own show#ngl!! i think im confident i could get people to like my show. i think I could find an audience#i have some experience at this point getting people to like my ocs#its just a matter of MAKING the damn thing

Which house will be you be assigned at Brackroot Academy??? Pause or Screenshot the gif at the top to learn your destiny!
Then "Keep reading" to learn more about your house!
Brackroot Academy is part of Tangled Blessings, a magical school horror roleplaying game that uses tarot cards to uncover your fate as a student.
If you like this fun exercise, learn more about the crowdfunding campaign happening now!
Learn more about your house further below! Does it suit you?
House of Celestials
The skies borrow from the elements to paint a backdrop for life. Featuring iconography of the sun, moon, and constellations, celestials are known for their inner glow. Still, they do not shy away from the dark surrounding them, understanding that all things require balance. Students in this house often carry at least one or more of these marks: discipline, passion, or indifference. This dorm overlooks the lake.
House of Dahlias
Dahlias rely on the energy of celestial bodies for growth and endurance. As a vibrant flower, dahlias are a symbol of elegance and devotion. The plant may seem abundant, but it requires careful nurturing in the wet and cold climate of Brackroot. Students in this house often carry at least one or more of these marks: creativity, perfectionism, or obsessiveness. This dorm is connected to the greenhouse.
House of Panthers
The panther needs a garden to rest from its daily stroll, and the dahlias always supply. The panther is a symbol of grace, athletics, and agility but still elusive and rare — a fierce creature of the shadows. Students in this house often carry at least one or more of these marks: observation, punctuality, or ruthlessness. This dorm is at the edge of the forest.
House of Spires
The spires are only safe in their tower because of the panthers who keep guard. The House of Spires represents the connection blades, pens, and spirituality share. While members of this house may only show interest or aptitude in one of the represented icons, they are a full member of the spire. Students in this house often carry at least one or more of these marks: empathy, isolation, or judgment. This dorm is in the high tower.
House of Elements
Elements are the wildest of the quintet, but they maintain control with help from the spires. The elements symbolize excess and power, but together, they represent the strength of unity. Students in this house often carry at least one or more of these marks: cleverness, hunger, or negligence. This dorm is under the school, but furnished with enchanted windows that overlook the neighboring mountains.
House of None
Accessible by only walking along the edge of a bridge in the right invisible spot, students in the House of None often think of themselves as beyond reality. These thoughts only worsen the more they understand magic on cosmic and atomic scales. Students in this house are often detached, cold, and fiercely intelligent Symbols commonly associated with this house include the number zero, a black hole, a vortex, lanterns, and knots.
House of Divines
Hidden beneath the campus Chapel and graveyard, this house was annexed centuries ago for blatant misuse of dark magic. Some stories claim this house serves as the birthplace for demons and vampires. Whatever the reason for the House's former eradication, blood stains remain in the foundation. Students in this house are often vengeful, patient, and not above harming others to get what they want. Symbols commonly associated with this house include blood, fruit, teeth, bones, claws, horns.

Kickstarting the audiobook of The Lost Cause, my novel of environmental hope

Tonight (October 2), I'm in Boise to host an event with VE Schwab. On October 7–8, I'm in Milan to keynote Wired Nextfest.
The Lost Cause is my next novel. It's about the climate emergency. It's hopeful. Library Journal called it "a message hope in a near-future that looks increasingly bleak." As with every other one of my books Amazon refuses to sell the audiobook, so I made my own, and I'm pre-selling it on Kickstarter:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/doctorow/the-lost-cause-a-novel-of-climate-and-hope
That's a lot to unpack, I know. So many questions! Including this one: "How is it that I have another book out in 2023?" Because this is my third book this year. Short answer: I write when I'm anxious, so I came out of lockdown with nine books. Nine!
Hope and writing are closely related activities. Hope (the belief that you can make things better) is nothing so cheap and fatalistic as optimism (the belief that things will improve no matter what you do). The Lost Cause is full of people who are full of hope.

The action begins a full generation after the Hail Mary passage of the Green New Deal, and the people who grew up fighting the climate emergency (rather than sitting hopelessly by while the powers that be insisted that nothing could or should be done) have a name for themselves: they call themselves "the first generation in a century that doesn't fear the future."
I fear the future. Unchecked corporate power has us barreling over a cliff's edge and all the one-percent has to say is, "Well, it's too late to swerve now, what if the bus rolls and someone breaks a leg? Don't worry, we'll just keep speeding up and leap the gorge":
https://locusmag.com/2022/07/cory-doctorow-the-swerve/
That unchecked corporate power has no better avatar than Amazon, one of the tech monopolies that has converted the old, good internet into "five giant websites, each filled with screenshots of the other four":
https://twitter.com/tveastman/status/1069674780826071040
Amazon maintains a near-total grip over print and ebooks, but when it comes to audiobooks, that control is total. The company's Audible division has captured more than 90% of the market, and it abuses that dominance to cram Digital Rights Management onto every book it sells, even if the author doesn't want it:
https://pluralistic.net/2022/07/25/can-you-hear-me-now/#acx-ripoff
I wrote a whole-ass book about this and it came out less than a month ago; it's called The Internet Con and it lays out an audacious plan to halt the internet's enshittification and throw it into reverse:
http://www.seizethemeansofcomputation.org/
The tldr is this: when an audiobook is wrapped in Amazon's DRM, only Amazon can legally remove it. That means that every book I sell you on Audible is a book you have to throw away if you ever break up with Amazon, and Amazon can use the fact that it's hold you hostage to screw me – and every other author – over.
As I said last time this came up:
Fuck that sideways.
With a brick.

My books are sold without DRM, so you can play them in any app and do anything copyright permits, and that means Amazon won't carry them, and that means my publishers don't want to pay to produce them, and that means I produce them myself, and then I make the (significant) costs back by selling them on Kickstarter.
And you know what? It works. Readers don't want DRM. I mean, duh. No one woke up this morning and said, "Dammit, why won't someone sell me a product that lets me do less with my books?" I sell boatloads" of books through these crowdfunding campaigns. I sold so many copies of my last book, *The Internet Con, that they sold out the initial print run in two weeks (don't worry, they held back stock for my upcoming events).
But beyond that, I think there's another reason my readers keep coming back, even though I wrote a genuinely stupid number of books while working through lockdown anxiety while the wildfires raged and ashes sifted down out of the sky and settled on my laptop as I lay in my backyard hammock, pounding my keyboard.
(I went through two keyboards during lockdown. Thankfully, I bought a user-serviceable laptop from Framework and fixed it myself both times, in a matter of minutes. No, no one pays me to mention this, but hot damn is it cool.)
https://pluralistic.net/2022/11/13/graceful-failure/#frame

The reason readers come back to my books is that they're full of hope. In the same way that writing lets me feel like I'm not a passenger in life, but rather, someone with a say in my destination, the books that I write are full of practical ways and dramatic scenes in which other people seize the means of computation, the reins of power or their own destinies.
The protagonist of The Lost Cause is Brooks Palazzo, a high-school senior in Burbank whose parents were part of the original cohort of volunteers who kicked off the global transformation, and left him an orphan when they succumbed to one of the zoonotic plagues that arise every time another habitat is destroyed.
Brooks grew up knowing what his life would be: the work of repair and care, which millions of young people are doing. Relocating entire cities off endangered coastlines and floodplains, or out of fire-zones. Fighting floods and fires. Caring for tens of millions of refugees for whom the change came too late.

But with every revolution comes a counter-revolution. The losers of a just war don't dig holes, climb inside and pull the dirt down on top of themselves. Two groups of reactionaries – seagoing anarcho-capitalist billionaire wreckers and seething white nationalist militias – have formed an alliance.
They've already gotten their champion into the White House. Next up: dismantling every cause for hope Brooks and his friends have, and bringing back the fear.
That's the setup for a novel about solidarity, care, library socialism, and snatching victory from defeat's jaws. Writing it help keep me sane during the lockdown, and when it came time to record the audiobook, I spent a lot of time thinking about who could read it. I've had some great narrators: Wil Wheaton, @neil-gaiman, Amber Benson, Bronson Pinchot, and more.

I record my audiobooks with Skyboat Media, a brilliant studio near my place in LA. Back in August, I spent a week in their recording booth – "The Tardis" – doing something I'd never tried before: I recorded a whole audiobook, with directorial supervision: The Internet Con:
https://transactions.sendowl.com/products/78992826/DEA0CE12/purchase
When it was done, the director – audiobook legend Gabrielle de Cuir – sat me down and said, "Look, I've never said this to an author before, but I think you should read The Lost Cause. I don't direct anyone anymore except for Wil Wheaton and LeVar Burton, but I would direct you on this one."
I was immensely flattered – and very nervous. Reading The Internet Con was one thing – the book is built around the speeches I've been giving for 20 years and I knew I could sell those lines – but The Lost Cause is a novel, with a whole cast of characters. Could I do it?
Reader, I did it. I just listened to the proofs last week and:
It.
Came.
Out.
Great.

The Lost Cause goes on sale on November 14th, and I'll be selling this audiobook I made everywhere audiobooks are sold – except for the stores that require DRM, nonconsensually shackling readers and writers to their platforms. So you'll be able to get it on Libro.fm, downpour.com, even Google Play – but not Audible, Apple Books, or Audiobooks.com.
But in addition to those worthy retailers, I will be sending out thousands – and thousands! – of audiobook to my Kickstarter backers on the on-sale date, either as a folder of DRM-free MP3s, or as a download code for Libro.fm, to make things easy for people who don't want to have to figure out how to sideload an audiobook into a standalone app.
And, of course, the mobile duopoly have made this kind of sideloading exponentially harder over the past decade, though far be it from me to connect this with their policy of charging 30% commissions on everything sold through an app, a commission they don't receive if you get your files on the web and load 'em yourself:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/doctorow/red-team-blues-another-audiobook-that-amazon-wont-sell/posts/3788112
As with my previous Kickstarters, I'm also selling ebooks and hardcovers – signed or unsigned, and this time I've found a great partner to fulfill EU orders from within the EU, so backers won't have to pay VAT and customs charges. The wonderful Otherland – who have hosted me on my last two trips to Berlin – are going to manage that shipping for me:
https://www.otherland-berlin.de/en/home.html
Kim Stanley Robinson read the book and said, "Along with the rush of adrenaline I felt a solid surge of hope. May it go like this." That's just about the perfect quote, because the book is a ride. It's not just a kumbaya tale of a better world that is possible: it's a post-cyberpunk novel of high-tech guerrilla and meme warfare, climate tech and bad climate tech, wildcat prefab urban infill, and far-right militamen who adapt to a ban on assault-rifles by switching to super-soakers full of hydrochloric acid.
It's a book about struggle, hope in the darkness, and a way through this rotten moment. It's a book that dares to imagine that things might get worse but also better. This is a curious emotional melange, but it's one that I'm increasingly feeling these days.
Like, Amazon, that giant bully, whose blockade on DRM-free audiobooks cost me enough money to pay off my mortgage and put my kid through university (according to my agent)? The incredible Lina Khan brought a long-overdue antitrust case against Amazon while her rockstar DoJ counterpart, Jonathan Kanter, is dragging Google through the courts.
The EU is taking on Apple, and French cops are kicking down Nvidia's doors and grabbing their files, looking to build another antitrust case for monopolizing GPUs. The writers won their strike and Joe Biden walked the picket-line with the UAW, the first president in history to join striking workers:
https://doctorow.medium.com/joe-biden-is-headed-to-a-uaw-picket-line-in-detroit-f80bd0b372ab?sk=f3abdfd3f26d2f615ad9d2f1839bcc07

Solar is now our cheapest energy source, which is wild, because if we could only capture 0.4% of the solar energy that makes it through the atmosphere, we could give everyone alive the same energy budget as Canadians (who have American lifestyles but higher heating bills). As Deb Chachra writes in her forthcoming How Infrastructure Works (my review pending): we get a fresh supply of energy every time the sun rises and we only get new materials when a comet survives atmospheric entry, but we treat energy as scarce and throw away our materials after a single use:
https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/612711/how-infrastructure-works-by-deb-chachra/
Anything that can't go on forever will eventually stop. We have shot past many of our planetary boundaries and there are waves of climate crises in our future, but they don't have to be climate disasters. That's up to us – it'll depend on whether we come together to save ourselves and each other, or tear ourselves apart.
The Lost Cause dares to imagine what it might be like if we do the former. We don't live in a post-enshittification world yet, but we could. With these indie audiobooks, I've found a way to treat the terminal enshittification of the Amazon monopoly as damage and route around it. I hope you'll back the Kickstarter, fight enshittification, inject some hope into your reading, and enjoy a kickass adventure novel in the process:

My favourite analysis on Lu Guang's answer to the animal riddle is that he said detective, partly because he sees himself as guilty, by @curapicas (2025). (thanks muninnhuginn for finding the link!) However, I posit another answer: everyone.
You can set a forest aflame with a match, sure, but that doesn't cause devastation on the scale of lifeless charcoal. Where I live, our forest are born to be burned. Pockets of wildfire open up cracks in the canopy, letting sun shine on young trees; nutrients are released back into soil; the jack pine tree needs fire to reproduce (Natural Resources Canada, 2024). Wildfires have become an issue for us recently for one major reason: mismanagement.
Forest fires are bound to happen. Delay it endlessly, leave thousand of acres of standing, old wood, and that's when a forest fire becomes truly ravenous. Was it any one creature's fault? The fault of the elephant for dutifully putting out small sparks whenever they were seen? The fox for watching the forest grow thick and overcrowded without speaking up? The rabbits for planting the grasses that they adore as food? No one could have seen it coming, yet, everyone could. It wasn't anyone's fault. It was everyone's fault. It was a tragedy. It was an inevitability. Lu Guang would know: he's been fighting that inevitable fire for years.
A forest fire, and a death node. Never any one singular person to blame, one single factor that caused the fire: always a collision of dozens of entangled threads. Cheng Xiaoshi's death was never caused by one singular person, and the fire was never set by any one creature. The animals of the forest, in their attempts to make the forest a better home for themselves, set the stage for it to burn. The people who love and are loved by Cheng Xiaoshi, in their actions to protect him, attract the attention of executioners. 引火上身。*
Fundamentally, it's the same as Cheng Xiaoshi's answer -- that sometimes lightning strikes your life, and that's that. Only, Cheng Xiaoshi says 'it wasn't anyone's fault, no one did anything to start it'. Lu Guang, and maybe Vein, too, say 'they were all at fault, no one did anything to prevent it'. Lu Guang answers everyone, because he has come to see disasters as not the result of a singular person's actions, but rather a product of everyone's decisions. Even though Vein may not be a time traveler well-versed in the crowdfunded nature of tragedies, he still may well be cynical enough to write off the idea of innocent victims.
Lastly, consider that Lu Guang doesn't plot Vein's death because it would prevent him from killing Cheng Xiaoshi. He does it because it creates a new node; a new fire. Controlled burning**.
*Meaning "to attract fire onto one's own body." An idiom for when you cause your own problems, especially by attracting the attention or ire of others.
**An actual forest management technique where you set small, controlled fires, which clear out the dead wood and fulfill the same purposes as a big fire without it getting out of hand. Many Indigenous peoples have been doing it since forever. (BC Wildfire Service, 2022)

I only just noticed that the app Stone is using in the “maid dress” scene in Sonic 2 is called “Robotnique Boutique”? Lol. Given the complexity of it (idk there’s a lot of controls to adjust things on the side), I assume he already programmed the app a while ago (very important work).
Then I wondered how he got a new picture of Robotnik’s face and I guess it’s possible that he just maybe altered the pic taken during the “crowdfunding” deleted scene or something. Or maybe the camera has a “Live Photo” feature like an iPhone so he had options to choose from. Or maybe he just used the existing photo as reference to edit the old picture he must have been using previously if he used the app before.
I bet some of the outfit pics are just from the internet while others were created by him. I wonder what those controls actually do — maybe they can alter the length and width of different parts of the costume? That’s probably what the sliders are for. And the connected squares for the fabric texture, maybe? There are some random wavy lines and circles that definitely aren’t supposed to really mean anything but it could be connected to the stats on the left lmao. Are those stats calculated somehow or did Stone put those in manually? It’s VERY funny
#idk why I was thinking this hard about it but I just find it funny lol#can you IMAGINE him staying after hours to make this after building all the actual important stuff#sonic movie#sonic movie 2#stobotnik#agent stone

The Crafty Distillery mystery - well, not really...
It has recently been brought to my attention that speculation is rife, across the street, about a potential business partnership/investment project between Crafty Scottish Distillers, a small gin and (now) single malt whisky distillery based in Newton Stewart (Dumfries and Galloway) and Sassenach Spirits.
The speculation some deemed borderline prophetic was based, as always, on social media likes and follows, a (properly documented) prior collaboration for S's gin, recent public expansion plans of the distillery and some pics from what is thought to have been a business lunch.
Let's unpack, shall we?
[Edited for accuracy - see below]:
For one, S's like is gone with the wind, since the moment it was found and posted - if you ever had any doubts left about some prominent blogs being read, reacted upon and sometimes even toyed with (which I believe was the case, across the street), that is:

[Source: https://www.instagram.com/p/DFlCT6MO4hj/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==]
As far as we know, according to the UK Government's company register, the Crafty Scottish Distillers has been founded in 2015, with a relatively substantial investment ( £200.000) by Mr. Graham Taylor, its sole owner and Person With Significant Control (PSC):

[Source: Companies House - and no, I am not providing any link]
As the business expanded, a bank loan was deemed necessary and granted by the Royal Bank of Scotland, in June 2022:

[Source: Companies House]
We know what this money was used for: they built a storage silo. A permit was granted, to this extent, by the Dumfries and Galloway Council, in May 2022 and used to justify the loan:

[Source: the Dumfries and Galloway Council webpage]
And recently, the company decided to further expand, this time with a more ambitious objective in mind. They want to build a distillery with tasting area (along with other building projects and amenities) and to perhaps expand the siting of the grain silo:

The building permit was granted conditionally (as for the GLA Taj Mahal, heh), on 19 December 2024, which means they have three years from that moment to complete the investment project:

Since they probably did not want to take another bank loan (we'd have documentation listed, if so), what they immediately did was to organize a crowdfunding operation, like many other small Scottish distilleries:

This is where the 'link in bio' would have taken you, before the crowdfunding was completed, at least as far as I can tell:

As mentioned, they are not the only ones having that clever idea:

[Source: https://www.crowdcube.com/]
At this point in time, there is no way to tell if S or Norouzi pitched in, either as private investors, or via the Latha Ur company. It might be too early and there is nothing (yet?) to substantiate. Business angels exist, after all, and I would not be surprised if at least one of them were a silent partner, by now. However, they could have just met for talks related to a new batch of gin - why not? happened before, after all - or simply to have a good time, as friends. Which they obviously are, by now.
And yes, this is me speculating.
The crowdfunding operation seems to have successfully ended on February 2, with a thank you note to those who pitched in, also suggesting some of them 'have been a part of [the] journey so far' - the one S and Norouzi liked (see above):

Unlike what was written by the other blogger, the main objective seems to be related not as much to doubling the production, but to the diversification of the on-site product/service offer:

[Source: Supporting Statement by the Crafty Scottish Distillers to their building permit application - 15 October 2024; the Dumfries and Galloway Council webpage]
I can't help but wonder for how long has a certain blogger been sitting on this obvious PR tip, so juicy it just had to be previewed with that awful April Fool's Day Android/Lego humoresque. Because no, the current planning documents are not readily available and certainly not listed as such by Google - perhaps stopping the unnecessary lies would be a decent option?
[Later edit]: As stated above, and given the fact I don't follow S's social media accounts, an eagle-eye friend (gracias a ti, siempre 😘) sent me this:

As we can see, S's like is still there. Which makes it even clearer the entire Lego charade was, in fact, quite probably a PR tip, as I supposed. Self-fulfilling prophecies are what they are, after all.
This also makes me both a lousy stalker and a lousy PR plant, which is something to behold, let's agree at least on this. Fantasy having its public, of course.

From racist callouts to 'Charity' scams: The exposing and rebranding of @aphrodicci, @venuskura"
We already wanted to discuss that hot mess that is @aphrodicci's donation post, or shall we call it damage control post? Thankfully somebody brought this up in our DMs. Let's talk about it.
Let's start with the basics: it's disturbing to watch a fatphobic racist bully try to rebrand herself through a genocide and a humanitarian crisis, RIGHT after being called out for racism, bullying, fatphobia, homophobia, and misogyny. Suddenly shifting the narrative toward “opening her own charity” after being EXPOSED AS A BULLY AND A RACIST HOMOPHOBE, and emotionally manipulating people through trauma stories immediately after being exposed is not activism. It’s damage control.
The timing alone is suspicious, but what makes it even more blatant is how she’s using global suffering to promote astrology services. Her second post (the one that the anon offered, you can find it on @venuskura) reads less like a call to action and more like a marketing pitch, offering tiered astrology readings in exchange for “donations,” all while vaguely saying the money is going to her and her family. How is that transparent? Where is the actual donation tracking? Where’s the proof this money is going anywhere except her own pocket? And what does she mean by "her own family"? That was not what she promised on her first post.
Mind you, this is not the first time she has done this, when @corvoidea called her out the last time she tried using the same exact tactic, where she was using tragedy and suffering as a meat shield.
It’s disgusting to exploit global and real tragedies to evade accountability. People have a right to be angry. Using stories of genocide as a shield against valid criticism isn’t just manipulative, and it’s exactly what people warned she would do.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That second post was extremely emotionally manipulative.
She opens with a personal childhood memory of her mother crying about trauma linked to the M23 Movement. While this might seem heartfelt on the surface, it's carefully timed to:
Shift attention away from the multiple callouts she has received
Frame herself as someone who has suffered deeply, subtly repositioning herself as a victim rather than the aggressor people are accusing her of being
Create an emotionally charged atmosphere so that criticism appears insensitive. You don't even realize how manipulative this is.
------------------------------------------------
Let's also talk about hidden monetization in a cloak of charity. Her donation mechanisms are shady.
Why is she asking people to send her money directly instead of donating to actual Palestinian funds? She says the money is for "donations" but then she casually adds "I'll be supporting them as much as I can while also helping my family." As mentioned earlier, this is not what was promised. She never mentioned her own family on her first post, so why are those donations casually being used to help her own family now? How are the funds being split? @aphrodicci @venuskura claims she intends to open a charity, but now it is seeming more like a crowdfund for personal reasons. Since this is for charity, why should she be benefitting or profiting? Is it charity or is it crowdfunding for herself? She claims to make so much money but needs her followers to help her take care of her family for "charity", but what happened to Gaza? It seems like she is abusing the fact that she is Congolese for sympathy and for donations.
This vague phrasing immediately contradicts the original premise of full donations and suggests the funds are being split or entirely redirected. In other words, this is not a donation-based charity.
It’s a paid service marketed under the illusion of humanitarian aid for Gaza.
The structure of the post mimics a tiered product sales pitch:
$15 for one placement reading
$30 for two placements, eight paragraphs
Screenshots required
Use backup page for “clarity” (sus).
It's also extremely manipulative to promote spiritual services off the backs of murdered children and r*ped women. She is likely trying to cleanse her public image by associating herself with a moral cause, as mentioned in @selenepsyche's post. Any critiques of her are now easier to frame as “pettiness” in the face of a global crisis (as hinted in Post #1: “so privileged to be angry at thy neighbor over past scandals…”).
@aphrodicci / @venuskura, you think you're slick but people can see right through you. This is deplorable.
Please don't donate to this person because we don't know what she's actually going to do with the money.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pick-An-Icon: How can you show up for your ancestors during Black History Month?
(Left-to-Right: Pile 1, Pile 2, Pile 3)
In honor of Black History Month, I wanted to start a Pick-A-Card series dedicated to Black Americans. I want to highlight icons in our community while simultaneously offering advice for any Black Americans who seek guidance about how to honor their heritage. If you're a Black American and you're reading this, this is for YOU! With the usage of the special Hoodoo Tarot deck, I will present you with ways to honor your ancestors. If you read this and enjoy and/or resonate with the reading, I encourage you to book with me! Thank you in advance!

Pile 1: Cards Used - Eight of Knives, Railroad Bill, Three of Baskets, Nine of Baskets, Two of Baskets, Nine of Knives, Gullah Jack and John Horse.
Affirmation: It is easy for me to take control of my narrative.
If you chose the image of Chaka Khan, then you resonate with her feisty, raw energy. This pile is for the creatives who are unsure of their talents. Your ancestors want you to know that there is more than one way to skin a cat. Introduce original ideas to the forefront. One way you can honor them is by not allowing time to limit your abilities. You put in so much work only to feel limited by a man-made construct. It doesn’t matter how old or young you are, you will always have time! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I channeled this old interview of Prince saying how he doesn't celebrate birthdays because it keeps him younger. Take on that carefree mindset of not applying the norm to your life. Your time is now! Another way that you can honor your ancestors is by setting up an altar. I get the sense that this pile is very secretive with their spiritual practices. Adorn your altar with foods, drinks, jewelry and other belongings of this loved one. They will appreciate it dearly. If you've lost someone recently, my condolences. But definitely keep in touch with them. I get the feeling that this is a young man, like an older cousin or brother. Keep the memories of you two alive so that he can peacefully cross over into the afterlife. Lastly, being a class act is a great way to honor your ancestors. Refusing to sit back and allow injustices to happen will make your ancestors proud. You have a voice! Use it! Organizing protests, sit-ins, even crowdfunding will make your ancestors proud. Combatting the capitalistic nature of society by collaborating with those in your community will hep you get in touch with your ancestral roots. You're naturally a giver, I can tell.
Pile 2: Cards Used - Nine of Knives, Two of Coins, Five of Sticks, Strength, Daughter of Knives, Aunt Caroline, Ten of Sticks, Six of Knives, The Garden and Seven of Coins.
Affirmation: I deserve to move through life with ease.
Hello, Pile 2. Off rip, I get the feeling that this is my pile of overachievers. I also believe that this is the pile that people who identify as LGBTQIA+. You resonate with the energy of Lauryn Hill's mysterious, intellectual nature. Why do you feel the need to carry so many burdens, Pile 2? One way to honor your ancestors is to lighten your load. They see that you struggle so much because of the amount of responsibilities that you carry. They had to go through similar things and they do want to witness their struggles in your lifetime. Ask for help, please. If you do not ask for help, then you will implode and we want to avoid that as much as possible, yes? You do not have to be the strongest in the room. Who are you trying to prove yourself to? It would be best that this pile talks to a mental health professional to receive guidance and proper medical treatment. Another way that you can honor your ancestors is by blowing off steam. Let your emotions flow. Slam the doors. Scream in pillows. Remove the mask and don't allow your emotions to consume you. You are allowed to be angry, my love. You have a lot to be angry about. Finally, the last way that you can honor your ancestors is to explore. You put in so much work, it's only right you get rewarded for it. Book that spa day. Go get a mani-pedi. Take the weekend off and go into hiding, you deserve it. Go somewhere you haven't been before. Your ancestors want you to relax and wind down.
Pile 3: Cards Used - Ten of Coins, Father Simms, Mother of Knives, Four of Coins, Dr. Grant, Six of Sticks, Six of Baskets, Six of Knives, Nine of Knives, Miss Robinson and Five of Coins.
Affirmation: I am doing perfectly fine in the present moment.
Alright Pile 3. You choose the image of Donna Summer, which means you resonate with her sultry, bold personality. This pile already has a close relationship with their family/ancestors, specifically the maternal side. To honor your ancestors, you must keep it this way. Learn about the traditions of your maternal side. Preserve recipes, photos and jewelry of your maternal side. And most importantly, gatekeep these things! You don’t have to share everything with everyone! Some people who choose this pile will have ties to Houston, Texas or currently live there. If you’re thinking about moving there, you should! It will help you mature. Another way that you can honor your ancestors is to receive compliments of comparison to a family member of yours well. You may not like it, but it shows your ancestors that you have respect for their features and/or personality. If you look like Aunt Linda or Uncle Jermaine, then that’s absolutely fine! Don’t deny it! Embrace it! Lastly, don’t let money consume you! I channeled the scene at the end of Players Club where Diamond visits Ebony at her new job in the shoe store. Diamond tells Ebony to “make that money, girl but don’t let it make you.” You don’t have to keep up with the latest fashion trends. You don’t have to have a job in tech or have a “lazy” desk job. It is perfectly fine to work at McDonald’s or work in retail. You’re making an honest living and that’s all that matters. Accept things as they are. Your ancestors made something out of nothing, and so can you. They are proud of you! Keep going.
