Cool Facts- The Chilean tiger spider has one of the craziest hunting methods I’ve ever seen. Also called the spitting spider, they are capable of spraying high velocity webs from their abdomen. After prey is immobilized from the sprayed web, the Chilean tiger spider injects it with venom. Having a ranged attack allows the Chilean tiger spider to be the only natural predator of the Chilean recluse spider. Outside of eating recluse spiders, they are also important for pest management of mosquitoes and biting flies. Chilean tiger spiders have never been medically recorded to bite a human as they only use their venom while hunting. When faced with a larger threat, they would prefer to run.
Rating- 12/10 (Their scientific name translates to leathery globe, after their abdomen.)
It had always been the same stare that Regulus gave him. From the moment Sirius introduced them to six years later. He still enjoyed the thrill of catching Regulus’s eye over the house tables and waiting for that little tightening around his left eye as he stared back with hatred and loathing.
But that morning, when he looked up and caught Regulus’s eye. Waiting for that little twitch that didn’t come.
He just stared back into James’s eyes. James felt a little jolt low down in his abdomen as he returned the stare.
“Oi, Prongs, will you stop staring at my brother?! It’s getting weird.” Sirius pulled him away, and their connection was broken.
“Sorry,” He apologised, turning to his best friend and joining in with his excited conversation as he tried to decipher Regulus’s expression so different from how he usually looked at James.
initially I wasn't thrilled with the prospect of reading a very long email comprised entirely of random quotes about whales but I persevered and my GOD. using existing sources to trace the story of humanity's relationship with whales and nature through history. how in antiquity whales were godly leviathans, feared, unknowable, then the slow transition into the modern age and european colonies, the growth of industrialised hunting, increasingly heartbreaking imagery of the whales' death agonies and more and more lurid descriptions of the dangers of whaling and the power of nature, cycling back to the very beginning of the chapter... poetic cinema. my god I'm invested. hit me with the next one ishmael I'm ready

Cool Facts- The American badger is a big, bad, digging machine. Digging large burrows, these badgers constantly move homes and territories. Often setting up shop near prairie dog towns, American badgers can dig faster than the rodents can run. However, despite their low-to-the-ground bodies and stocky size, they can still be spotted with ease on open grassland by their prey. So, badgers have come up with a solution. Teaming up with a coyote, the coyote forces prairie dogs into their burrows while the badger digs them out. Sharing their food and working together increases both of their hunting rates by almost 33%.
Rating- 13/10 (An unlikely duo to be sure but an ingenious one.)
