WIP INTRO - Sunless Ground

Genre: Adult contemporary fantasy. Sequel to Seventh Virtue.

Status: Currently drafting / NaNoWriMo project

Synopsis: Harrison is in danger. Captured at the Seventh Roost in a deal that freed Reeve, there’s no way to escape—especially as he’s seemingly made enemies with the man he cares for most. Reeve is unhappy. While physically free from her family’s terror, she spends most of her time worrying for friends she’s not sure are still alive, and resentful of Darren, the man who helped get her out. But when Darren goes missing and Lonan narrowly escapes the Seventh Roost—without Harrison—it seems things couldn’t get worse. Without the protection of Lonan and with his own death impending, Harrison makes internal allies—one of whom is harbouring secrets more sinister than anyone’s expected. Meanwhile, Reeve fixates on searching for the Fourth Virtue whose tragic history could be the key to ending her family’s tyranny, and most importantly, reuniting her with Harrison.

She could lie to herself. Say she’s gotten used to waking every morning at yolky dawn in the bedroom she occupies alone. She’s gotten used to the scalding silence at midnight and gotten used to lighting the candlestick on the nightstand even in the middle of the day. The same instant peach oatmeal Darren keeps buying every time he treks out to the city because she said she liked it once. She can’t bring herself to tell him she can’t handle the flavour anymore, the way she’s gotten used to it and the way she’s gotten used to her hair getting longer, nearly touching her shoulders, the way she’s gotten used to her waxen face in the bathroom’s uncovered mirror. She could lie. But nothing changes the truth even when she stays up all night, rocking back and forth, hoping something will. She made it out—no more running, no more hiding. It’s a good thing, and yet the prospect is so lonely, so frightening, that she sometimes considers walking into the woods until she makes it out the other side a woman who did not survive alone.

A/N: Recently I have been really into the beta squad and the sidemen so please keep these requests coming! This is so rushed I'm sorry!!

The other 4 members of The Beta Squad, plus Yung Filly and Hary Pinero, were sat giddily in the studio awaiting the special guest for this Saturday's video, everyone knew this would send Niko's mood sky rocketing.

He had been in a mood for the past 2 weeks since his girlfriend, you, had been on tour for your newest album so he hadn't been able to see you. Little did he know you were going to be waltzing through that set of double doors at the rear end of the studio as soon as the cameras start rolling.

"Niko! Get up!" Kendall, one of the members of the camera crew called, he pulled himself off the couch and towards the other boys.

"Today on Beta Squad.." Kenny began the intro before Chunks interrupted.

"We have a guest!" He announced, earning a confused look from your boyfriend.

All the boys turned to look at the double doors at the back as all the cameras moved to focus on it.

The doors swung open as you waltzed in, "it's me!" You stated, twirling around.

"No way!" Niko shouted, his mood immediately lighting up.

"Yes way!" You shouted back with a laugh as he jogged over to engulf you in a hug. "Can you guys believe this? My own boyfriend didn't notice my 10-day break in shows!" You jokingly complained to the camera, earning a huff from Niko.

"Be quiet and let me enjoy your presence for 2 seconds," he mumbled, picking you up and spinning you in the air, earning a squeal from you. He placed you back down on the ground and engulfed you in yet another hug. "I missed you baby."

You both walked over to the other boys, Niko's hand grasping yours for dear life. The boys then began to explain the video. They had 5 girls waiting in the main studio as Filly was going to be playing Blind Dating Girls Based On Their Outfits.

You were sat on your boyfriend's lap, in between both Chunkz and Sharky, with Aj, Harry and Kenny in front of you on the couch.

"The Beta Squad are gonna play cupid, by trying to find, our friend Filly, love. The twist is, the girls are hidden behind a curtain, and round, by round, we'll slowly raise the curtain to reveal the girls that may take Filly's heart. Also! Another twist, Filly doesn't get to pick who goes through each round, we do. By wingmanning from another room and deciding which girls will get rejected. Let's see if we can find Filly true love!" Chunkz explained, going over each rule of the episode.

"See if Aj was doing this, he'd be able to see under." Niko stated, earning laughs from the other boys.

You turned around to him, "and if it was you, you would see over it."

"Yeah! What she said! Lanky!" Aj quipped, making Harry pull him back down to the couch.

You leaned back into Niko, Sharky audibly awing at your comfort around him. Filly started asking the girls their names and ages, without interruption from the 7 of you in the next room.

He went on to ask about icks which sparked conversation between you and the boys.

"Y/N what are your icks?" Harry asked you, making you lean further into Niko in thought.

You hummed, "I haven't really thought of any."

"Well what's one thing Niko could do that would make you be like 'wtf is that thing I'm dating'?" Kenny asked you.

You smiled in return before speaking, "I love him too much! He couldn't do anything!"

Niko grinned and kissed the top of your hair, everyone else reacted with disgusted sounds and Aj mumbled "they're so cute it's disgusting."

After a while of watching Filly talk to the women, Niko grabbed the mic.

"Ask them if they shave." He told him in a monotone voice.

"Niko!" You shrieked hitting his arm and snatching the mic. "Don't you fucking dare Finny, that is the crudest thing you can ask a girl! Instead ask what their favourite song is or something."

He smiled at the camera that was used to show you guys what was going on in the other studio. He went down the line asking what the girls' favourite songs were.

The first girl said a song by you, which made all the boys, including Finny cheer, the next said Under the Influence by Chris Brown, the next said anything by Britney Spears, and the final girl said Irregular Love by LilTjay.

"Okay, It's time for us to vote out another girl," Harry said into the mic.

"Girl 2, she really said Under the Influence, absolutely not." You stated.

This caused Chunkz to pipe up, "what's wrong with Under the Influence? Huh!"

"It's a shit song that's what's wrong with it!" Niko answered, making you nod your head proudly.

"Shut up! You're only saying that cause you don't want to upset Y/N!" Sharky exclaimed, making Niko flush.

"All I'm saying is I want rid of her," you huffed, making Niko wrap his arms around you softly.

"The fans will be loving this," Kenny laughed, indicating to you and Niko.

He was right, the number of edits you had seen floating around Instagram, Twitter and Tiktok of the two of you was crazy. They were adorable, you had to admit, and seeing the reactions of fans when you commented on their videos was enough to leave you happy for a week.

"So what? I'm just showing my girl some love." Niko nonchalantly answered, making you hide your face in his arm.

The video continued on, every so often the cameras would switch from Filly to you and Niko cuddling into eachother.

When the video came to an end Filly walked into the other studio which contained you and the boys, with his new girl, Melissa.

"Love is in the air!" Chunkz grinned, looking between you and Niko to Filly and Melissa.

You’re sitting on the couch at home, doing some work.

Well, trying to. Right now you’re staring at the unrealistically bright screen, thats been subtly blinding you since the laptop opened hours ago, your eyes hurt, your head hurts, your brain is tired of thinking. You place your fingers on your temples and rub your head in circular motions. All of the sudden you feel two hands on your shoulders.

“Si’? I’m sorry I would’ve gotten up to say hi at the door, I didn’t hear you come in”

“It’s okay, love. How long have you been working?” he asks concerned, as he look at the bags forming under your eyes.

“A few hours”

“How many is a few?” he continues

You quickly check the time, “roughly 5” you say trying to stifle a yawn

“Alright, thats enough working for tonight.” He says before abruptly taking your laptop

“Why’re you all cuddly tonight?” you say as you attempt to take the laptop back

“You’re putting too much pressure on yourself. You need a break.” He says sternly

You fight the urge to argue with him and just let him put your stuff away, he quickly changes and sits down on the couch next to you.

“c’mere”he says quietly

you shuffle over to him and sit in his lap, you curl your legs up and lean your head against him as he runs his rough hands against your scalp softly, his other hand supporting your body.

“do you want to talk about it?” he whispers into your hair

you simply shake your head and say “Its okay, can we just enjoy each others presence for now?”

“Of course.” he goes back to working his hands into your skin, trailing around your body and getting every possible knot in your tense muscles, peppering little kisses around your face.

While this isn’t his usual demeanor, he’s okay with it because you are his home, his comfort, so he doesn’t mind being as affectionate as you need him to be. He loves being with you, being silent with you, being loud with you, as long as you’re there he loves whatever you’re doing, you soon both fall asleep intwined in each others arms on the couch, embraced in your combined warmth with the ambiance of your synced breaths.

i can probably help with that! it would really depend on who/what you're interested in exploring. most characters/families have a few good starter comics that are shorter or help you get a good feel for what they're like. i think team-up books are generally a nice way to ease out into other arenas, whether that be titans jla jsa jli etc. they're usually pretty lighthearted and introduce you to lots of new characters while still having characters you're familiar with.

other than batman my wheelhouses are mostly green arrow and flash, so i can be much more help with those two lol. i'm not sure what you've already read/what you're interested in but I can point you in some general directions

if you're reading green arrow for the first time I think it's easiest to start with volume three (the 2001 run). I think that one's the first longer run I ever read in its entirety and it basically made me fall in love with comics as a whole. it definitely has its problems, I'm not trying to say it's perfect lol, but for the most part it's very fun and a good introduction if you've never read arrowfam comics before. especially if you want to see connor and mia! the first two arcs (quiver and archer's quest) are especially good, but overall it just feels like you're hanging out with ollie and his adopted kids and fighting goofy villains in star city. it is 75 issues long but it went by SUPER fast for me. if you want a shorter story there is also green arrow year one and green arrow stranded, which are nice intros to ollie!

for flash, i would say one of the best intros would be to read #62-65 of flash v2. it's a version of wally's origin and also the start of waid's run, and like. it's so good lol. i would of course recommend impulse 1995 if you haven't read that already. all of flash v2 might be a little much if you're just looking to ease in, there are some arcs like 'the return of barry allen' and 'dead heat' that i think give you a feel for the comic as a whole.

for good starter wonder woman stories i'd recommend wonder woman: the hiketeia and wonder woman historia. for a longer comic i'd go with the perez run (wonder woman volume 2). i am definitely not qualified to talk on the glc but i'd assume stories like emerald dawn would be a good place to start? kyle's run on gl 1990 would probably also be a safe bet. it wasn't really for me but i am definitely in the minority there.

i am really not the person you'd want to talk to about superman, aquaman, shazam, etc. i'll get there one day but probably not for a while lol. if you have more specific questions about different corners of dc or specific families you're looking into I'd love to help!

hi ! i’m new to your blog and I really love your daily updates. how is computer science as a major? i am thinking about applying but im really scared about it being too fast and being dumb compared to everyone else (like how i felt in high school) plus im horrible at math but i want to potentially learn more about computers.

like i enrolled for that free harvard intro to CS50 class online but it was way too difficult for me to understand and I was 2minutes in and they were only talking about binary stuff ugh

Heyy!! Personally for me it’s been very varied in the difficulty levels. Like it’s never too easy, haven’t had a course where I’d just breeze through it with no problems, there’s always something (but that’s part of the fun in coding; being frustrated out of ur mind but when you crack it? That feeling is my favorite one out there). It’s yea has some mathematical thinking, but not outright maths that much (aside from AI that’s just lots of probability math & statistics). But I feel like it’s very different mathematical thinking from ”regular” math.

Also starting a whole new different subject is obviously at first going to be very confusing & difficult bc u have no existing concepts to place the things you’re learning on, the context keeps building up when u keep studying & usually things get clearer as you learn more.

Abt the binary stuff; you don’t rly need it for coding (like it’s good stuff to know obv to have like the basic concept of where everything is based on) unless you code in some assembly language. (Altho u could have some obligatory assembly language courses (we had one and everyone hated it lmao and it’s just one of those courses you’re looking forward to passing and never thinking abt again (at least was for me; some ppl love it)).

Universities are also more flexible if u feel like it’s too fast; there’s no set schedule you have to follow. You can take longer to graduate if u need to and it’s not the end of the world. And a lot of ppl actually do graduate like 0.5-1 year later (or more but I feel like that’s the common one; there’s the outlier spiders georgs of forever students who’ve been there for 8 years). Like I’m graduating in 4 years (hopefully 🤞) instead of the 3 that was the goal time. (<- all of that tho could be different in ur country’s education system, that’s just how it is here, like u can always apply for more time and it’s pretty easy to get)

Tho in the end, it’s hard for me to say. I don’t like the idea of ”being too dumb” for something; just might take some ppl more time/effort for some things than other ppl.

Heyy so some of us have finally gathered up the spoons to make something resembling an intro post, subject to change over time. Forgive us for the subpar structure btw, we are blendy at best right now, and Will Not have the productive energy for this in five minutes.

We collectively use they/them pronouns.

As of the newest review of this, we are aware of 18 alters.

We are likely a DID system based on our overall, y’know, symptoms and stuff, but are unable to access any psychiatric help or diagnosis at this time.

We are traumagenic, but support endogenic systems as, frankly, the origin of anybody’s system is none of our business, and systemhood as a whole is under-researched.

I'm basically insane if you can't tell from my little shit posts where I either call every man ever pretty, simp over Reid, or just say some shit? (Don't quote me on anything I post bc I don't remember most of the shit I say😭), But, to make this a true standard introduction I guess I'll put bullet points or smt?

I am a fucking PUSSY. If I respond to things weird, or seem overly fearful, THAT IS JUST ME<3

I write a lot, but I make sure to not post multiple fics a day because I don't wanna seem odd (?? idk man, weird fears)

My friend K and I are learning Graffiti, I'm learning it for like the second time (we aren't doing illegal stuff, the style just interests us), but other than Graffiti I'm still learning how to properly draw anatomy, even though I can't worth shit I'll keep trying bc drawing interests me.

I'm into Horror and stuff of the sorts but not many of my friends are so I don't talk about it a lot.
