Sum: You always told everyone your boyfriend was Viktor Krum. Of course no one believed you, even with letters from him. Made you a massive target for bullying. Especially for your looks on why ‘anyone in general’ wanted you. Look at their faces when the Tri Wizard Tournament comes.

“So how’s your ‘boyfriend’ doing? Hm~?” A girl would cackle at you, before throwing a bread roll at your face. Socked you in the nose. Wasn’t like it hurt, but the intent that she wanted it to was what made that sweet biscuit sting.

No one ever believed you that you said Viktor was your boyfriend. All except Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Made sense they would. Harry bloody potter was all three of your’s best friend. They knew you wouldn’t lie, and were there at the Quidditch Cup.

Who do you think was able to give them all free tickets?

Ron, ever the one to defend his friends, was soon standing up. Ready to throw a full on breakfast at the girl, but Hermione had to yank him back down. As if they needed to lose points, but also she needed to distract her own hands from punching someone all the same. She was a lot more subtle with her rage.

“Just ignore them. They are looking for a fight. Don’t give them the time of day.” Harry would try and comfort you, but damn it gets under your skin. You know you shouldn’t care, that they are just bullies. But it’s still a lot to handle. It makes you go crazy. The human brain can only handle so much. Even with the truth is right there, a million lies can bury everything.

Made you lose your appetite. Not even Fred and George’s latest candy inventions could perk you up.

But Dumbledore could.

“Attention everyone, we have a grand announcement to make! This is the year of the Tri-Wizard Tournament. This is also the year that we have been given the grand honor of hosting it here to Hogwarts. Please, everyone, give a roaring applause to the schools that come.”

That had you perk up a bit. You remember Viktor talking about the tournament. You knew he would try and join. He was such a strong, determined, man. Oh your man was perfect in so many ways. Just so kind, loyal, sweet, sensitive, you could go on for hours about him.

But any chance you could, those damn bullies would step in to fight it.

Said bullies were still being annoying, as the Headmaster would tell everyone to give a warm welcome to Durmstrang. Making mocking kissing faces at you, as they cleaned up their makeup. Wanting to look their best. Just made your blood boil, until you heard the doors open.

There you saw him.

Viktor was leading the parade, next to his headmaster, with an expression that could kill. Face stern, cold, and hard. A man that was ready for war. Had all the girls, and guys, just swooning at such raw power he would display to everyone. This being of pure muscle and fight. Truly what a solider is envisioned.

That’s until his eyes locked with yours.

His face was so quick to soften, and a smile broke through the mask of intimidation. Just this childlike glee was filling those dark eyes, and making them come alive. He was so happy to see you. He nearly stumbled over himself, as he was distracted. Had to get a fellow student to bump his hip to get him back in line.

You couldn’t help yourself in a giggle.

Oh how you couldn’t tear your eyes off him, and how he struggled to focus on his performance. Trying so hard to not let you keep him from his calculated movements. It’s hard though. He was utterly smitten by you, after all. He just couldn’t stop throwing eyes your way.

Shame that your bullies were also in that same direction, and figured his puppy dog eyes were for them.

You couldn’t even pay attention to the girls from that French school come in. Your eyes were meant for Viktor, and his yours. It was all returned in his gesture. Smiling, and just utterly drunk in love for you. Oh how his body itched to move away from where he stood. To come your way and sweep you off your feet.

But a solider does what a solider is ordered.

“Please welcome your new fellow students with open arms, everyone. Treat them as you would with your own. Enjoy your dinner everyone. Be kind, be respectful, and be what you are. Students.” Dumbledore would finish, as Mr. Karkaroff finally dismissed the students.

The way he bolted was truly a statement to his seeker abilities.

“VIKTOR-! WHERE ARE YOU GOING?! VIKTOR-!” His fellow Durmstrang students would laugh, as they were very well aware of his pure excitement. His adrenaline just rushing to finally get to you. And NO ONE would get in his way.

Out right said ‘fuck walking around the tables’ he JUMPED from one table to another. Caused quite a scene, and show, but it was entertaining to say the least.

He hadn’t seen you in person in so long. Even the Quidditch Cup wasn’t enough. Could only watch him from the stands, before the Death Eaters showed up. Ruined any chances of you two to hold hands.

Not today.

“INCOMING-!” Harry shouted, as the golden trio made sure to get out of the way. Just in time for you to pretty much be tackled, and scooped into his strong arms. Lifted high into the air like a ballerina, before into a swooping dip. Just so full of kisses.

You swore if he had warn lipstick your face would end up a solid shade.

“VICKY! We’re in public! These are my classmates!” You cackled, as he just wouldn’t stop kissing you. You swore he traded breathing for kisses in that moment. Just unable to let you go, and kept you in a grip like no other. Just kisses, hugs, and Bulgarian chants of pure love.

Your bullies sure were left dropping their goblets at the sight.

“Breathe man, breathe-!” Ron shouted, as he patted the seeker’s back. Just all a cackle with your friends. With Hermione herself smirking, and possibly flipping the assholes off, as Viktor finally calmed down enough to function. Sorta.

You were still in his iron grip, as he snuggled you close. His head buried in your neck, as he kept whispering about how much he missed you and loved you. It was just endless affection, and you were so happy to get it.

“You are playing this up, aren’t you?” You whispered to him, as he gave a deep chuckle into your flesh. Had a shiver run down your body, as he laced his fingers with yours. There to compare hands.

“What? Me? Pretend to act a certain way in the public eye for the paparazzi and reporters to eat up? Never.” He would play his sarcasm well, before he planted another sweet kiss to your cheek. Just left you so giggly, as you two finally sat down. Well, more so you snuggled in his lap as he kept praising you in affection.

The students at Hogwarts sure learned a valuable lesson that day.

Been thinking a lot about these two scenes in GoF and how heartbreaking it must have been for Sirius. His Godson has just been attacked, not only by the return of the wizard who killed his best friend, but yet again by Peter, somewhat doubling down the betrayal he made against Lily and James.

But then, he hears that Lily and James were there. Actually sprung from the wand that murdered them to help their son. He had spent 12 years in Azkaban just wishing to see their faces one last time, to hear their voices and remember that they were real people that used to laugh with him. They saved their son again, even after death. He could not see them, but they were not lost.

So, in the aftermath Sirius stays with a horrified and grieving Harry. He insists, despite the danger that puts him in. He shifts into dog form and lays his head on Harry's stomach, feeling the slowing of his breath as he drifts to sleep, and is reminded of the last time he had done the exact same. A pregnant Lily, just starting to show, trying to stay awake while James follows through on his last Order mission before he officially resigns to stay with her and the baby.

After hours of worry, she had finally drifted to sleep, cradling her stomach with one hand and petting the tip of his ear with the other. He laid his head on her stomach, hoping, praying, to hear the door open and James to appear like he promised. The alternative is not an option. He closes his eyes and focuses on the sound of Lily's breath, straining to hear not one but two heartbeats coming from her center.

sirius really spent 12 years in solitary confinement with nothing but dementors for company, only to be locked up in his abusive childhood home for a year, and then murdered by his own cousin the one time he left it to protect harry.

it’s no wonder that sirius was such a healthier parental figure to harry during goblet of fire. he may have been alone and on the run, he may have been forced to live in a cave and to eat rats, but at least he was free.

do you think when he was on the run he was so paranoid he couldn't eat or move from one location for days? do you think he could tell reality from hallucination? do you think he had horrible panic attacks when he saw a wizard in black? do you think he couldn't eat regularly anymore because he threw it up?

do you think when he was at number twelve, he dissociated for weeks? if harry wasn't there, do you think he sat in his mother's room and stroked buckbeak's head and let his conscious slip? do you think he started forgetting everything? do you think he forgot how to play chess and cook mary's favourite dessert and what lily's favourite dress was and how james took his eggs every morning? do you think he was so afraid to sleep he stayed up for weeks? that he couldn't sleep without a potion? do you think he bled to feel something in the long months he didn't see his godson? do you think he thought of his mother while he did it? do you think he ever could properly eat again? how bad was his guilt? did he looked in the mirror and see murderer? do you think his mother's screaming was comfort to him after so many years of earth-shattering silence? do you think sirius took comfort in the fact that it was the only thing that was the same when everything had changed? do you think the only reason he didn't start drugs was because he had people who depended on him? because he'd never be taken into consideration if he was addicted to opioids? do you think he got angry more? do you think he got angry less? do you think he stopped trying to make connections with people?

also imho it’s fascinating that Voldemort constantly calls Peter a “poor wizard” when Peter was able to successfully become an Animagus and managed to execute a really complicated resurrection spell. like. he grew a whole new body in a cauldron. Tommy I get that you can’t let anybody have the credit but that is very impressive.

every champion in the triwizard tournament knew about the dragons beforehand. when harry told sirius about the dragons via floo, he knew INSTANTLY how harry could go about defeating a fully grown dragon with a simple spell. later, in the cave, he almost ENTIRELY picks up on what’s going on with barty crouch—even pinpointing that it had something to do with his son. he’s incredibly sharp, and doesn’t let his bias about snape cloud his theories (like ron does, very often)and yet people think he was thick and couldn’t tie his own shoelaces without moony telling him which foot was which. in this essay i will

Btw Sirius Black did NOT escape Azkaban to PROTECT Harry from the man who got Harry’s parents KILLED and send Harry the BEST BROOMSTICK on the market and invite Harry to LIVE WITH him and fight his best friend/maybe-boyfriend just to SAVE Harry & his friends from death and give Harry PERMISSION to go to Hogsmeade and write Harry LETTERS and REMEMBER to send Harry birthday PRESENTS every year without fail even while ON THE RUN and return to a country where he was a WANTED man to spend literally MONTHS in a CAVE with only RATS for food just so he could WATCH OVER Harry and SUPPORT him and offer him ADVICE and be ready to PROTECT him again and RUSH to be there for Harry after Harry went through HELL and risk capture by going out in PUBLIC to see Harry off on the train and dive HEADFIRST into a TRAP to SAVE Harry yet again all while dealing with 12 years’ worth of TRAUMA for y’all to call him a “BAD godfather.”

thinking about house elves in the HP books.

while hermione sees the whole system as in need of uprooting, harry blames the people who MISTREAT their elves, but doesn’t see the whole system as particularly bad. just in need of improvement

and honestly when discussing IN-UNIVERSE house elf slavery (NOT real life!!!!!) it is interesting to notice that hermione does not listen to the house elves or what they want, and insists on doing things her way despite their protests 

now, i recognize that propaganda has brought the house elves to this viewpoint, that they’ve been pushed into this role by society telling them it’s where they belong… so hermione knows better. 

but... she knows better than they do? she is... superior? they’re not fit to make their own decisions? 

even if it seems right because they are victims of propaganda, it slips dangerously into the same mentality of them being inferior that supports house elf slavery in the first place 

so education is needed, and listening to house elf voices… trying to uplift them and make them know that they’re their own people and worthy of the same rights as other species 

because while IN REAL LIFE the happy slave thing was propaganda made up to justify slavery, in the HARRY POTTER UNIVERSE, the house elves… actually DO want to be slaves. 

NOW. we can say that it is super fucked up jkr did this, because, yes, the implications are horrendous. but it is what we are stuck with and we have to follow it. the fact is, the majority of house elves are content where they are and believe it is right... because of propaganda, internalized lessons of inferiority, subservience

so a gradual shift would be needed rather than sudden freedom. the house elves would need time to come to their own realization that they deserve more than this, time to get angry. this would happen naturally with education and a shift in the attitudes toward house elves 

also, house elves are based on brownies, which DO like to serve, as long as they receive a bowl of cream or something similar in return. but if they feel like they’re being viewed with pity or charity, they will flip out and leave. we see this in the house elves to a certain degree… they take great offence at being given clothing, just like brownies, although they take offence because they don’t want to be freed, while brownies take offence because they don’t want to be pitied. but you could see house elves hating being freed as a form of hating being looked down on and seen as victims… anyway, my point is there’s interesting stuff there to apply to house elves, and jkr didn’t fully whip this out of her ass so yeah both harry and hermione were wrong in the way they went about things... harry for thinking the status quo is fine as long as house elves are treated well, and hermione for not listening to the house elves because the right thing is so obvious to her (hermione autism moment if im being honest. lack of nuance, seeing them as irrational so not catering to it, strong morals that she applies even when a softer touch is needed...) hermione was absolutely correct in her motives, but the way she went about it was not good. but that makes sense for her!!! she’s stubborn and struggles to understand behaviour she views as irrational. the way hermione sees things, HER way is the RIGHT way, HER morals are the RIGHT morals... she wants change immediately and she wants to be the one to bring it. and i love her for that. she’s literally a kid. she’s doing her best. but it wasn’t the most effective or empathetic approach, which isn’t her fault. at least she is trying to do something, which is more than most can say. her heart was in the right place, and with time, a different approach, and perseverance, i believe she would have great impact on the rights of elves.
