on principle opposed to describing art i dislike as 'masturbatory' because even though it's an alluringly contemptuous word to sneer it's impossible to reconcile with my pro-masturbation stance

#it's such an ugly word but like. self-pleasure is good‚ actually #it's good to know yourself and what you like and lovingly treat yourself to it!#like similarly 'meretricious' is extremely tempting if you ignore the underlying metaphor #but. hard to.#language #and quite frankly i think people who whip out 'masturbatory' in this sneering sort of way #are leveraging‚ if we're honest with ourselves‚ a particular framing of it as a gross thing that boys do #because like. when have you ever heard a *woman's* self-indulgent art described as masturbatory #like don't get me wrong we absolutely still dismiss it! but we dismiss it in other ways #that are usually about how embarrassing her *yearning* is #and so even our sneering is reinforcing an idea that men Act whereas women Feel #anyway this was prompted by some things but i shoved it in the queue so now i forget what lol #so here you are getting some contextless thoughts on the use of 'masturbatory' as sneering dismissive assessment!#just what you were hoping for i'm sure :)

I will die on this hill.#I have been *waiting* for the day to finally arrive when I could finally make this comic. It's been marinating for months.#My mission is to redraw all of qour's character designs one day. They are just *that* good.#CSSR has the vibes of a wandering menace who shows up in towns like a stray cat arriving at a new doorstep for treats. 10/10.#While YZY strongly leads us to believe that JFM was in love with CSSR and that's his whole motivation behind taking wwx in-#-I do think this is (once again) rumour being presented as reality. It's the juicer story to tell after all.#It is still possible that he did love her! But I think that story undercuts the relationship he also had with WCZ.#Yall ever think about how JC and WWX parallel their fathers? How Wei Changze also left the Jiang Leader's side? I do.#Unlike JC though It is far more hilarious and plausible to imagine JFM begging to be CSSR and WCZ's third. You know he would.#My wild headcanon is that JFM and YZY are in a mlm and wlw arranged marriage situation. Deeply unhappy as partners. Better as friends.#they care for each other and I'll admit that there is a beautiful tragedy in them having romantic feelings for each other the whole time.#But I am also here for the gaffs. "jason don't move!" you say while sheepishly giggling. you take the photo and out sprouts a little polaroid. you shake it before giving it to jason. he looked at it unamused like it was dumb. "what's the point of this?" he asked. "it's a photo of you, and now i have a physical copy"

"why would you need one of those?" he asks confused.

"for those nights i don't know where you are, the ones that scare me the most," you say with a smile, you smiled yet it hurt so bad.

jason was quiet for a bit before taking the camera out of your hands and taking a photo of you. now you looked at him like he was the idiot. before you could ask what he was doing he shut you up.

"this is for when i go on those long trips…and i don't know how long it will take me to get back to you or if i even will." he takes the photo and puts it in his wallet.

out of nowhere, you hugged him and he hugged you back while the two of you stayed silent. he was going away for 6 months. he couldn't tell you more than that because that could put you in danger. he was set to leave tonight with roy. he wanted to bring it up because he wanted to say goodbye. he wanted to promise to come back and promise to buy you a ring but he couldn't. he didn't have to courage to.

you pull away from the hug and press a kiss to his lips. it was sweet but short. like this was the end of something.

"can i take the camera with me? i'll bring it back"

that might've been a lie, he wasn't sure because he didn't know. he wishes he had all these answers but he didn't.

"what will you do with it?

"you'll see"

"jason-"

he kisses you this time, firm and hard like he has something to prove, something worth saying. by the end of it you are panting, flustered and so confused.

"this isn't our end," he says quietly before standing up.

you wanted to walk him to the door but that would be painful. it always was. so you closed your eyes and waited for the door to close before letting the tears fall. you wanted to convince yourself that you were crying because of that expensive polaroid camera but you weren't. you were crying over him. you were crying over jason todd because he was gone and because you knew this might be the end.

you could only wait and see for what may come next.
