#I started a book??

So I started writing a book yesterday…

Yeah, a book. Not a fanfiction. (I’m surprised too.)

I had this idea strike me & I’ve had ideas strike me before, but they’ve never actually manifested into me sitting down and writing an original work. I’m almost done with the first chapter & I think this is something I’m gonna see to completion. But what do I do with it once it’s finished???

I’m so used to sharing my work with people online that not posting it on AO3 feels weird. Do I just let it sit in a pdf file on my laptop? Do I send it to an editor??? Self publish it on Kindle???

I would just want people to read it. I don’t even care about making money off it.

It’s supposed to be a critique of purity culture & how it perpetuates sexual assault within religious communities told in the format of an erotica where the main character struggles with her religious upbringing as she moves to becoming a more sex positive adult. And if I did self publish it on Kindle, I think it’d be really funny to list the price for $0.69. Yes, that is a sex joke.

Here’s a little excerpt:

I never used to wonder how Job didn’t curse the heavens when he lost everything. I never used to wonder how he could have remained so steadfast in his faith. I never used to wonder why God, in his infinite wisdom and love, allowed that old devil, that fallen angel, that Satan to test him so. To test him in such a cruel and ruthless way as to not only take his wealth, his status, his marriage, his children—all ten of them—in a storm, and after all of that took even his healthy body leaving him penniless and grieving and physically broken.

And still, according to the biblical text, Job never once blamed God. He never cursed the heveans…

Instead, he sung praises to the Almighty.

I never used to wonder about Job. I never used to wonder how he managed to keep his faith. I never used to wonder…until Daniel.

Here’s my take on the whole audio books vs. reading:

Oral tradition of storytelling predates written ones by millennias, and honestly, which one you like is just a personal preference.

The actual difference is

when listening, you have no idea how to write characters’ names

when reading, you have no idea how to pronounce characters’ names
