Omega laughed as you tried to do a fishtail braid, “Sorry,  hun, I’m doing my best here, but it’s coming out a little …” you scrunch your face as you look at your handiwork, “Let’s just say if this was a real fish’s tail, this fish would be dead. Do you mind if I start over?”

“No. Go ahead.” She answered with patience and love, just happy to spend time with you.

“Alright.” 

So you set to remake the fishtail, yet, no matter how hard you tried, the tails didn’t look even or how Omega wanted them, and she couldn’t stop laughing, “Omega,” you laughed unable to hold back, “I’m trying to fix your hair, so hold still.”

It was about another hour when you had finally managed to get the tails to look like tails and to make them even enough they wouldn’t embarrass her, make her look odd or like a crazy person. She ran around telling her brothers about her fishtails and showing them off. 

You chuckled to yourself, slowly following her footsteps. However, you stopped midstep, your eyes focusing on Hunter sitting in his patio chair looking out over the water. There was a near blank expression on his face, yet his eyes held all his emotions. It broke your heart seeing him so … lost? Guilt-ridden? Maybe it was just overwhelming grief.  

After all, it hadn’t been long since Omega and Crosshair came back. Frankly, you were happy to have them back, especially after losing Tech. Everyone on Pabu felt his loss, and getting to know Crosshair had been challenging at first, yet Hunter somehow took on the responsibility of making sure Crosshair got along with everyone.

As each day progressed, the emotions in Hunter’s eyes were slowly becoming more and more overwhelming. It wasn’t hard to see he was still learning how to move on without Tech. How to live his life without his brother. 

You’ve suffered more than your fair share of losses, and you knew how difficult it was to just start living again. To start putting yourself back together without having that support you relied on so heavily. If anything, Hunter needed a friend first and foremost right now. 

Not wanting to disrupt his peace too much, you did what you could as you quietly walked over and sat beside him. 

Hunter didn’t flinch or react as you took your seat, he knew you were there, but he’d rather focus on the horizon, at the moment.

It was almost half an hour later, when you finally spoke up, “You okay? Caught you staring off into space again.”

His face turned to look at you, doing his best to give you a smile, even if it was half hearted. 

“I’m fine.”

It had been his go-to response lately. Everything was either ‘I’m fine,’ ‘I’m okay,’ or ‘I’m just tired.’ Honestly, you had to keep reminding yourself not to get upset with him, he and his family had been through a lot. More than most families and it didn’t help if all you were going to do was nag him. 

So you did what needed to be done. Find a way to get him talking. Whether you two would still remain friends after this conversation, was yet to be seen. But he needed this, whether he admitted it or not. 

“It’s not your fault you know,” you rested your clasped hands on the table as you looked at him.

“What’s not?”

“Losing Tech, Omega getting captured or even Crosshair choosing to stay with Empire for as long as he did before leaving them.”

He let out a vexed noise, “It is.”

“It’s not.” You told him emphatically. 

“You weren’t there.” 

His eyes narrowed as you talked about the unspoken topic that was never to be mentioned between the two of you. He knew you cared, it was evident by how you took care of them. Ever since they moved into the house beside yours, you were quick to offer any assistance. Helping Omega, cooking dinner, even giving a listening ear to whoever needed it and keeping what you had learned to yourself. 

However, he didn’t want you to be tainted with his failures. He wanted you to remain separate. 

“You’re right.” You nodded, as your eyes focused on the sunset, “I wasn’t there, but you know who was?” I turned to look at him and smiled, “Wrecker, Omega, Echo and Tech. I’ve spoken with Wrecker, Omega and Echo, and each one of them said Tech made a choice. It was a difficult situation and it was either he delayed the inevitable and you all got captured or killed, or … he’d make the ultimate sacrifice to ensure his family survived.” 

You reached over and took Hunter’s hand in yours, “Considering who Tech … was, do you think he would’ve been happy knowing you would’ve been captured because of him?”

He shook his head, as he let out a choked laugh, “No. No, he would’ve made us go over the scenario a thousand times to make sure we never let that happen again, and then he would’ve come up with a plan to enforce that.”

“And would he have blamed you for going to the outpost you went just to find information on Crosshair?”

“No. He … he was the first one to suggest it.”

You nodded, tightening your hold on his hand, “Then would it be right to say it was your fault? I mean Tech made the ultimate sacrifice for his family, that’s commendible and honourable. Don’t cheapen his sacrifice with your guilt.”

Hunter let out a long sigh as his free hand ran down his face, “If only it were that easy.”

“I know, it’s easy for someone like me … an outsider … to look in and tell you what you need to do; but as the person who lived it,” you smiled as you looked at him, “… you can just tell me to shut up and just hold your hand.” 

A small smile of understanding appeared on your face as you offered it to Hunter. 

“I’d never tell you to shut up.”

“Maybe I haven’t irritated you enough, yet.” You looked into his eyes letting him know you were there, as you squeezed his hand, “Hunter, nothing that happened was your fault. Omega getting captured was as Echo put it ‘an overwhelming amount of force.’ Crosshair choosing to join the Empire was no more your fault, than him choosing to leave the Empire.” You reached over brushing his hair back and tucking it behind his ear, as you cupped his cheek. “You can’t take on people’s choices or circumstances beyond your control, simply because you’re a Sergeant, or were a Sergeant. Life gives you no karking choice but to play the cards you’re dealt, and I for one, am glad you guys found your way into my life.”

He leaned into your hand holding it against his cheek, “Your friendship means more to me than you know.”

You smiled as you looked into his eyes, “I know. Your friendship means a lot too. Just … promise me, you’ll talk to me when you’re letting your emotions overwhelm you. If not me, at least someone. Please?”

“Alright, mesh’la. I promise.”

Hunter’s smile grew as he kept looking at you, even as you pulled your hand away. He’d been holding off on telling you how he felt for so long. However, he couldn’t hold back anymore, he was going to tell you.

“You know, one of these days, you’re going to have to tell me what mesh-a-la means.”

“I will,” he leaned forward, keeping your hand in his, “I promise.”

Do you ever think about how Kaz making sure Inej is reunited with her brother is so he doesn't have to deal with his own grief?

Obviously he cares about Inej and wants her to have her family back and that's his main focus, or at least his main focus consciously

But here's the thing

They're mirrors of each other. Two people who lost brothers, Kaz's is gone forever ... But inej's is still out there (probably). Now we all know Kaz has never dealt with his grief, and probably barely even acknowledges it, mostly because he doesn't know how. That's not something people just ... Know how to do, grief is a process and if you don't have a single other person to help you or even be the slightest bit supportive it's going to be nearly impossible to grieve in a healthy way. Let alone being in a constant state of survival mode having to watch your back all the time because you're a kid in a very dangerous place and pretty much ever single person is an enemy, or at least not someone trustworthy or helpful. But I hella digress my bad

My point is Kaz hasn't dealt with the loss of his brother (why have I not used his name once? Bitch idfk my bad Jordie you deserve better bestie), which was a meaningless death. And by that I mean Jordie didn't sacrifice himself for some cause, he wasn't a casualty of a greater issue ... He just died. Because that what people do.

And especially for a kid who's all alone with not a single soul left on the earth who gives a damn about him, that's a pretty tricky concept to grasp. That your whole world, the most imporant person in your life could just die ... Just be completely gone in a moment. Thus why Kaz immediately blames Pekka and devotes his life to revenge, even though Pekka was only indirectly involved in Jodie's death. But blaming Pekka gives his death a meaning, it means there's something he can do to make it mean something.

JORDIE's death meant nothing, and Kaz's revenge on Pekka didn't give it meaning either ... Which he probably knew deep down that it wouldn't. But those are the kinds of thoughts we ✨silence✨ because we need the rage for vengeance to keep us alive and doing things.

Now back to Inej and Harij.

Reuniting them will for Kaz make his own situation mean something (in my opinion don't at me these my head canon thoughts). That even though he can't bring his own brother back, he can bring back hers. And knowing that they're together will make his own grief a little easier to bear. It balances it out, if you will.

Two brothers lost, one brother found. Good math

OK BUT ALSO HAVE YOU CONSIDERED

Harij is Inej's younger brother

So consider Kaz is doing it as much for him as for Inej. He's making sure another little boy (he's obviously not a little boy anymore but like ... He was 12 ((idk how old he'd be know)) and that's plenty young) doesn't have to lose his older sibling forever.

And also consider

Kaz knows he doesn't deserve Inej, he knows he most likely won't always have her ... And more importantly she won't always have him.

He won't always be able to protect her, to keep her safe. But her brother could. Her brother could be there for her and her support her and even do a far better job (probs idk what bros personality is like but I bet Kaz Brekker is assuming shit too) than Kaz could. So by reuniting her with her brother he's making sure she's taken care of, that even if he lets her down, she'll never be alone.

But canonically Kaz Brekker is not the jealous or possessive type. If Inej wanted to leave him for someone else he'd be upset yeah but he's knows full well Inej is a living Saint and worth far more than he could ever deserve in a billion lifetimes, and he's also far more concerned with her happiness and well-being than what she can provide for him.

So he'd be satisfied being away from her, not knowing a single thing about her life, as long as he knows her brother is there with her.

He doesn't need to take care of her, he just needs to know that she is taken care of.

About him using reuniting Harij and Inej as a way to avoid dealing with his grief.

It's like this

Brother dies

Kaz goes straight to revenge, never actually processes any of it, just jumps straight into making Pekka pay for it ... Which tbh is dealing with it in a sense but it's in a very passive way of going straight to doing without ever processing ... If that makes sense.

And that's repaying violence with violence, which leads to more violence. It's a cycle of destruction that Kaz is playing into, which is very hard to get out of once it starts.

But reuniting Harij and Inej is a break in that cycle. It's Kaz using his own pain as motivation and incentive to do something that will heal others. And making sure that neither Inej nor Harij get caught in the same cycle as Kaz did, it's using his own knowledge of that cycle to protect others from it. And more specifically, he doesn't know how to heal himself, he doesn't know how to move on or process and grieve, he doesn't know how to leave the cycle ... So he's helping Inej and Harij heal from their pain instead, and making sure they never enter the cycle.

Because he probably is well aware that revenge isn't the healthiest way to channel grief (but bro doesn't care because Pekka needs to be put in his place and we stan him for that), but channeling it into helping someone he loves is healthy.

And real talk here

Kaz probably believes he will never move on or heal from Jordie's death. Thus him being trapped in the ouroboros of suffering ... And go with me here.

If we view the ouroboros (snake eating its own tail if y'all don't know) as a literal scenario Kaz is trapped in, it's a mental prison basically, and one he has accepted that he will never leave. His fate is sealed, and he can't do anything to save himself from that.

BUT even if he can't ever break out of the ouroboros, he can keep others out, he can't save himself but he can save others from being trapped there as well.

And because of this he won't have to deal with the fact that he's trapped, he can focus all his energy on keeping others out ... And it gives it meaning. That even though he's trapped forever and can't do anything for himself, he can do something for other people because of it. Because the only way to avoid the ouroboros is if someone inside warns you.

That was a wild metaphor I hope that made sense lol

Also once again these are my head canons and I wrote it from Kaz's perspective so to speak, so when I say things like He cAn NEVer HeAl that's because that's what he thinks (imo) not what is objectively true. Healing is absolutely possible and bro can get it he just doesn't know it yet.)

look the summer hikaru died is absolutely fucking fantastic it is incredible the story is gripping the characters are wunderbar the art is gorgeous i think that the yokai elements are wonderfully mixed in and you feel a genuine sense of fear and unease at times imagining yourself living in this town thats slowly unravelling at the seams. theres no debate about how fucking amazing the summer hikaru died is okay genuinely it rises above the rest but also i think that taking off the BL tag was such a win because yoshikis ongoing mourning of hikaru is literally the main plot focus and its so much more interesting when you can see it as more than just "doomed yaoi". yoshiki obviously regrets never being able to tell hikaru his romantic feelings and definately mourns the boy he loved but its so much more than that because more than missing his crush he misses his best friend. hikaru was yoshikis best buddy they were for real best friends and people tend to always act as though romantic feelings are superior in depth to platonic ones when thats not true at all. if anything i think yoshiki misses "hikaru my best friend" more than "hikaru my crush" because he had two sided best friendship and they were eachothers player one and two. Sometimes your crush will move away and its heart breaking but when its one sided you can endure, but a best friend? Your best friend is the shoulder you cry on. the guy you give the other half of your popsicle to. the guy who remembers you prefer extra ice in your drinks and dislike cola for the weird feeling it leaves on your teeth. Hikaru was yoshikis right hand man and now hes been replaced by someone who looks and walk and talks and has all the same facets of hikaru except his soul. In fact I think the only reason Yoshiki can't accept Hikaru *IS* because he was his best friend. Because despite the fact that this "Hikaru" is exactly the sams to Hikaru in practically every single way; yoshiki still can't accept him because his best friend can't be replaced. This manga has put Yoshiki is such an interesting and complex deliemma. Because yoshiki is stuck in this strange mix of convoluted feelings where he begins to love "Hikaru" as a seperate entity from Hikaru, but it feels as though this love is being pried out from a sticky sludge that is his original love for the real Hikaru. Yoshiki initially could only go through all of this out of his internal desire to cling to Hikaru, despite the fact he bears the knowledge everyday that he's just spending time with something that just reminds him of his best friend. And his care + empathy for the "Hikaru" next to him is something that originally was only a by product from his love for the original goods, but by now in the story he literally has admitted that he has grown to love "hikaru" seperately. When I started writing this post it was April lol and then this sat in my drafts forever, so now this got said out loud, but before it got said out loud you really could feel the jumbled and confused emotions Yoshiki was enduring regarding "Hikaru". It's something I don't even think I can put into words, but it was communicated so well through the author's story telling abilities. All these feelings can't be summed up in just Yoshiki having a crush on Hikaru. He feels so much more than that. To me at least, I think that this story is elevated by Yoshiki having a crush on Hikaru, but could still have happened if he didn't. While the vice versa could not be true. It makes me upset when this story gets boiled down to toxic yaoi and everyone ignores the fact that their best friendship is so deepy important (if not MORE important than the romantic intentions) when it comes to Yoshiki's emotional strife regarding the original Hikaru.

You felt your heart beating rapidly as you tried to take in breaths. Your muscles were aching but you wanted to keep going. “Alright guys! We're done for the day.” The dance teacher called out to all of you. 

As the others were getting ready to leave the studio and enjoy some dinner, you stayed behind to drink a bit of water. While they had all made their way out, you were left in the room alone with one other. 

“(Y/N)?” Jeongin called out to you. “Do you wanna go out to eat?” He asked. 

You had gotten close to the youngest of the group because of the way he seemed to hold himself. He was a shy boy at first but once you got to know he was such a joy to be around. He might not be a sunshine like Felix was but I.N had his own light that brought everyone in. 

He called for your attention. He wanted it in the way he walked but once he had it he acted as though he didn’t need it. It made you laugh at how he made people think he was an innocent boy when really he knew how to get people to like him without trying. 

“I'll eat later, Innie.” You smiled at him. “Imma try to get some of the routine down better.”

“Don't push yourself.” You almost cooed at his frown. 

“I won't.” You got up, bounding over to him. “I know better.” 

When you turned to get to the stereo, you noticed he was putting down his things and stretching for a moment. “What are you doing?” You asked him. 

“I'm going to stay and help you.” His smile made your heart flutter. “Nothing wrong with a little bit of extra practice.”

“You don't have to.” You told him.

You had always liked the way he sang. The classes you took with him for vocal lessons had you watching him in awe. And watching him dance honestly made you feel heated. But that’s how you felt about all of the boys. 

“That's enough for the day.” You grinned, leaning over the panting boy. “We can go to eat.”

After getting showered and meeting up in the lobby of JYP, you both made your way down to a small restaurant that was open. It was a nice thing and you were glad he had waited for you to finish. You like it better when you ate with other people. You were excited how dorm life would  be like. 

“You're really into this.” Jeongin began. “I like that about you. You have so much motivation for this whole thing it's hard to keep up with you.”

“I try not to go too hard.” You told him, taking some kimchi. “It sucks to burn yourself out.”

“There are a lot of people who do that.” I.N nodded to himself. “Chan Hyung said it when he was a trainee they did that a lot.”

“Yeah, I don't want to end up like those people.” You smiled softly. “But honestly doing this means I'm ready for what's to come. I know if I keep at it things will go my way in the end.” You looked up at him, grinning. “Gotta keep a positive mind over it.”

“Like me staying with you to go out to eat?” He asked with a teasing smile.

“You really wanted me to?” You raised a brow.

“You're pretty cool.” He shrugged. “Almost as cool as Hyunjin.”

Hwang Hyunjin the boy who made everyone swoon with his good looks. You wished you could reach his level of attractiveness. Most of you all had a crush on him the day you met. But I.N was pretty obvious with it–at least his admiration for him. 

“No one is as cool as he is.” You laughed. 

“He's kind of dramatic though.” I.N added. 

“But very handsome.” You pointed out. 

“He is.” He sighed deeply, nodding along with your statement. 

Hyunjin might have been a handsome boy, but your type were the ones who had braces and the youngest of the groups. 

You suddenly grinned, reaching over to poke his forehead lightly. “You are too!” You giggled. “I think you're very adorable.”

“I am not!” He whined, jokingly rubbing at the spot you poked. 

“Yes you are!” You continued. “You can call yourself whatever you want but to me you are super cute and adorable.” You sat back down in your seat, expression turning soft. 

“I like that about you.” You admitted. 

His cheeks turned bright red causing you to smile. You had a long road ahead of you but you were glad to have the boys along your side. And you couldn’t help but to have a crush on one of them. 

“I'll show you!” He whined.

“I'm excited for it!”

Man. The character poll got me looking at my designs with new eyes, and I feel like rambling about it, so Imma just do it.

The thing about me is that a lot of the choices I make when I’m designing something are mostly intuitive/subconscious; just me following a Vibe and seeing what works for the feeling I want to pass on. Not to say I design stuff without thought, I’m just not aware of those thoughts until the design’s done lol

All this to say the character poll got me analyzing my own designs and realizing what my intuitive brain was going for when doing these aissmdmfjdm

this was the first ever concept I drew for these guys, and you can already see some of the building blocks for my final designs here.

The thing that I focus most on, at first, is the overall silhouette and posing. Which is why I wasn’t worried about specific details or polishing up anything in this drawing, I just wanted to get a feel of these characters and see what kinds of shape worked best for them.

Going through each design and my process for them–

Cold was both the easiest and most difficult one for me. While I had a pretty strong idea for his overall shapes from my first drawing and knew what details were important (fluffy collar and head shaped like a water drop), specific details eluded me. I wasn’t sure what to do with its legs or cloak. Eventually tho, I decided I wanted them to be almost completely covered in feathers, leading to their white plumage with dark hands, feet, and face. Something simple, but effective, and I was happy enough with it. I was torn between a diamond or the X for its cloak’s clasp, but eventually decided the X was a more striking detail, and connected her to Spectre more.

Hero is another one that came very easily to me, but whose specific details I struggled with some. I gave him pure white eyes at first, but it limited his expressions, so I ended up giving him those black with white pupils eyes while doodling around. I figured out the helmet shape almost instantly while doing my second ever drawing of him, going for that beak-shaped helm with fiery feathers; tho the rest of his clothes I was really unsure about. Whether to give him a full set or not, if I give him a cape, or metal cladding, etc. The solution came by trial and error, simply giving him different pieces and seeing what fit best, and I eventually arrived on the set he has now!! The secondary clothes just kinda appeared as I doodled him in more casual scenes, and the hair came because I was looking at all the puffy-haired Hero designs and suddenly felt like mine was too bald lol. Overall, I’m really happy with my fluffy and smol son <3 (oh, and yeah, I always pictured him as short in my mind and never thought much about it isjsjdndjndjc)

While it too me a bit to get a doodle of Smitten out, I also figured him out almost instantly. The main thing I wanted for him was to look bright, approachable, and expressive. He’s the only one who has normal-ish eyes because of this, and the side cape was something I gave him to differentiate him from Hero and add to his dramatic flair.

Oppy was definitely the one I struggled with the most, as I had too many ideas in my head for him that all clashed with each other. He didn’t have a set design in my head for a while because of that, which you can see in my early doodles of him where I very clearly didn’t know what to do with his suit lol. His head shape was the first thing I figured out for sure, with those antennae hair strands being present ever since the first doodle I did of him, and for his suit, I just put Reigan Mob Psycho and Larry Pokemon Scarlet in a blender and that car salesman looking ass was the result (centrist politician was another vibe I was going for). I’ve been told he looks deceivingly handsome, tho personally, I just think his face is very punchable.

Broken was prolly the easiest one for me, and one I was satisfied with the first true try (I consider those first sketches up there more of a ‘test run’). I wanted them to look the most similar to Quiet (even more so than Hero), but, well, broken. A reflection of the state Quiet was left in by the Princess in the Tower lead-up. The horn tufts have been ripped off, there are a lot of slashes and cuts across its body, their feathers look unkept and like they have been torn off, and lots of its scales are missing. The sack covering its body is their measly attempt at covering their injuries, and I tried to make all the bandages look old and makeshift.

While the funny corvid face in my first attempt at drawing Contra is very neat, it just wasn’t very fun to draw or allowed them to have many expressions, so I changed it to the face you know now. The curly hair was mostly just me wanting my favorite blorbo to have my favorite kinda hair to draw, and it just so happened that it also fitted with them lol. Them being the only one out of my voices that wear pants instead of some upper body wear is something I always had in mind for them, and the suspenders were more of a little ‘extra’ thing I added to give them more of a clown look alongside with their hat. Something I find funny about my design for Contrarian is that, while it didn’t change much since my first full drawing of them, you can tell something about that first drawing seems off. A little scruffed and odd-looking, and that was mainly because I simply wasn’t used to drawing these humanoid bird things and you can really see me getting the hang of it with how I drew Contrarian, specifically.

Paranoid was the next one I did, and not to brag but, I think I nailed it that second try aidjkxmddkfkkfc only thing I knew about her design was that I wanted her to have large eyes and a bold spot on her head, and then everything else I just kinda drew around that. And honestly? Really happy with the result!! The bald spot ended up looking a lot like part of her brain was straight-up exposed, so I just rolled with that, and she probably has one of the most fun faces to draw. Her silhouette is also very distinct, with the cloak + fluffy head and horn tufts kinda looking like pigtails giving her a very fun shape. I just love how she turned out, not my personal favorite design, but definitely the one I’m most proud of. She looks like a weird bug and I love that.

While I had very strong images for Cheated’s, Hunted’s, Skeptic’s and Stubborn’s design, it’d still be a while before I actually sat down to figure out their details. But once I did, they all came quite easily.

For Hunted, I just wanted it to look like a Creature. I had the idea of having leaves stuck to its feathers as a sorta camouflage thing, but that’d be to much of a hassle to constantly draw, so I scrapped that and just kept the camouflage marks on its cheeks. I wanted its body shape to look slender and nimble; slightly malnourished. The head shape was mainly me wanting its beak to look the most distinct from the other’s beaked voices, more of a ‘wild’ look, and the cat-like tufts was also added for that more feral look.

For Skeptic, I went back and forth on some details, but the hat, big gloves, and scarf were the things that stuck to the end. Something I find really funny with him is that he wears no clothes besides those accessories and its just the way his feathers are drawn that gives the impression of a suit, or some kinda coat under that scarf lol. His color pallette is the one I find the nicest. It’s mainly monochrome, but I think it works well for him.

Only thing I wanted for Stubborn is Big Soft Kitty. With scars. That was about it tbh, I just wanted him to look big, stronk, and huggable, he’s just a big kitty to me.

Cheated I also knew from the start what I wanted to do with him, as you can see by how similar the first concept and final designs look. Main thing I wanted for her was this sorta ‘uneven’ look, with her clothes seeming like they used to be symmetrical before being sliced and torn up. The slices on an ear tuft and a brow is something that just sorta appeared as I doodled him.

So… yeah! This is about it. It took me a while to reach to this final result, but I’m really glad with how all my designs turned out and seeing that others likes them too makes me incredibly happy!! :D

omg YES I WILL I LOOOOOOOOOVE THE KARAVERSE EEEE. ao imma focus on cross group friendships cause each group has their own dynamics and that’s a different post. i also don’t wanna add romantic relationships so this is all just friendships for now.

so our main group is heeyoung , minji and taeji, the fucking chaos triplets. jen is a recent addition the squad but she’s really fitting in with them i love it. mimi joins them every now and then but she’s quite a solo person but when she’s there they have fun. they get in a lot of shit together but they’re so fun and fresh. a sub division of this group includes the boys like james of triptych, jisung and hyunjin.

taeji is especially close with james since they’ve known each other since their trainee days. taeji , james and jeongin are a very close trio.

next is our party girls sora, kelsey and kiera. calling them friends is even a stretch they kinda just are around each other and go out together. sometimes they hang out with minchae she’s an npc oc i created that is jangmi’s ex childhood best friend. she’s a model and actress and gets the best drugs so they hang out. non of them really like each other but are a lot more involved in each others lives than they will admit.

sora and sol are one of the closest pairings in the karaverse. they’re like brother and sister and adore each other. he really is her support system and so sweet. they used to include fin a lot in their friendship but ever since their breakup they obviously are back to being a duo.

a fun little group stella, mila and nova. the three of them are very close and i looove them cause they’re all so different but mesh together so well. they’re literally the coolest people you’ll ever meet. they’re so like aloof and mysterious ugh so sexy.

next is our artsy gays; mila , stella , dayna and arin. they love to frequent galleries and go to fun exhibits not super close but hangout a decent amount.

next we have akiko and trin. theyre a cute lil duo , trin is a lot more quiet and doesn’t stand up for herself but luckily she has akiko. they’re joined at the hip and in basically in love with each other i’m obsessed fr.

iris used to train at cube and so she’s close with vivid but she’s one of sora’s best friends. they liked each other as trainees but decided to just stay friends and that was the best thing they could’ve done honestly because they make amazing friends.

lastly there’s jangmi and minseok as well as jangmi and sam from triptych. minseok and jangmi were mcs together and jangmi fell for him but he’s in love with his bandmate jun so they’ve become really good friends. jangmi has struggled with friendships and through minseok she met sam and they are instantly clicked. she decided that they’d ignore their romantic interest in each other to focus on their friendship because it means so much to her.

honorable mention to jinah bora and jade. nothing significant but like at parties they interact a lot

okay but what if astarion shadowheart karlach gale wyll poly. i never get laezel or minthara so idk enough about them to analyze so imma just focus on my Main Camp Team. this gets very nsfw toward the end because i’m ill and i want them all to fuck!

the insane potential for an incredible number of love triangles. it starts with astarion and shadowheart, because he assumes the amnesiac will be the most naive/easy to influence. they pick up gale and astarion finds him annoying while shadowheart finds him sweet and useful to the mission. of course astarion starts trying to compete with and outsmart gale, which just creates an insane amount of sexual tension.

then karlach joins in and shadowheart is immediately smitten with her, leaving gale and astarion to let that sexual tension come to a climax or two. shadowheart, literally conditioned to be non-monogamous is all for it and pouts about not being invited until gale realizes that Oh. Oh. This is a thing that was happening…? well, he can’t blame astarion for liking her, and she’s much sweeter and substantially less threatening than the Girl He Has Feelings For that gale brings to the table.

karlach is a hard one because she is actually insanely monogamous and would be happiest only with shadowheart, trying to ignore the fact that her girl had other partners because she’d never deny her happiness like that. then i think once astarion and gale opened up a bit about their experiences and conditions karlach would really start developing a connection with them that would eventually bleed over into something a little more. she’s used to warming shadowheart up at night, what difference does one more shivering elf at her side make? gale is her fucking bomb bro till the end and he’s super smart and explains stuff to her she doesn’t understand without making her feel stupid.

then we add wyll to the mix. the literal actual genuine knight in shining armor of astarion and shadowheart’s dreams, so kind and honorable and hot they’re down bad. the way wyll suffers under mizora but doesn’t regret his pact with her wins over gale’s sympathy immediately and of course, wyll’s sacrifice to protect karlach gets her right in the infernal engine too.

as for specific small group dynamics ive already gone crazy about shadowheart astarion and karlach so we’ll skip over them for now.

gale -> astarion <- wyll is simultaneously “i want that twink obliterated” and “oh my god you poor injured little stray cat let me nurse you back to health”. very big on the unpacking trauma and having Man Therapy Time that leads to astarion and gale both crying into wyll’s very muscular shoulders

wyll -> shadowheart <- karlach is the knight x princess trapped in a tower x dragon dynamic but the princess and dragon are in love and the knight is an awkward blushing mess who is super into this. i know karlach and shadowheart have some freaky sex so anything with with them would be be BDSM Bootcamp for wyll

shadowheart -> gale <- karlach is fuck your ugly ex you didn’t deserve that, that is NOT love, let us show you how it’s done. they’d also recognize and encourage that little spark of femininity that pops up in gale from time to time and definitely indulge him in it. he’s also an extremely perceptive chatterbox, so honestly i think he’d be the third member of the gossip girl trio over astarion who isn’t quite so analytical

astarion -> shadowheart <- gale is soooo much jealousy competition for shadowheart’s attention but gale is completely oblivious to it. shadowheart adores the concept of being bickered over and feeds into it just a little bit to see astarion squirm. i am a shadowheart fujoshi truther and watching astarion and gale go at it is definitely her cup of tea.

wyll -> astarion <- shadowheart is purely “if anything happens to me, i know you’ll be here to take care of him”. now, put shadowheart in the middle and it’s herding dog x lamb x wolf dynamic all the way. very much the angel and devil on shadowheart’s shoulder when it comes to everything

a really fun one is wyll and karlach + shadowheart and astarion. this i feel would be mostly sexual because what says masc/butch best bros solidarity like topping your respective pretty twink/femme partners together? especially with shadowstar sandwiched between them and kissing like their lives depend on it.

Alright, it's been a week since I started trying to catch up with Project Sekai, and I've read 7 stories already since I've read one every day. This pace is okay, but I wanna catch up by 4th anni since it seems like everything is gonna be wrapped up then, so I'm probably gonna bump it up to 2 stories per day.

Anyways I wanted to put down my thoughts, starting with Connected Through SEKAI's Cherry Blossoms and ending with Wishing to the Blue Sky for Your Happiness.

Connected Through SEKAI's Cherry Blossoms:

Imma be real, this event was a slog to get through just because of how repetitive and slow it was. That being said, I liked how it gave us more insight about the Sekais, but that's about it.

On the Stage of Dazzling Light:

I remember that Tsukasa himself seemed to take somewhat of a backseat to the Phoenix Wonderland plot in his first focus, so I'm glad his backstory was fleshed out more here. I'm surprised Toya had that little screen time because I thought he was more important to Tsukasa’s backstory, but that's just fandom influence, I guess.

Live with Memories:

I'll be honest, I didn't have the fondest opinion of Ichika before this event, but this event really solidified why I dislike her character. In my opinion, she just doesn't feel like as fleshed out of a character compared to the rest Leo/need. For example, every other member has something that makes them unique and shines through their focus events, but Ichika feels like she's just characterized enough to not be a blank slate. Yes, I know that she's going to be like that because she's the "MC," but it just serves as a detriment to her character. Maybe she gets better, or maybe I don't get it, but I just don't like her for now. Also, that Miku V4 ad was WAY too obvious. I know the whole game is an ad, but at least it's subtle.

Tied By Painful Hope:

Hasegawa seems like a nice character, so I'm excited to see how she develops. I like that this event went also went more in-depth about Haruka's backstory. Overall, this event feels like a good stepping point for the future.

The Climax! Kamiyama Cheer Squad!:

I don't really have much to say about this event, but I'm glad that we get to see a lot of good interactions between the Kamiyama students. Also, Rui's characterization here feels really nice.

THE POWER OF UNITY:

I like that VBS' story is putting more emphasis on the NPCs and their interactions with the main cast because it definitely makes everything seem a lot more full. The foreshadowing here is foul, though. "Take a look at this town" is absolutely evil knowing what happens in rotation 4. Anyways, the event felt like a nice way to way to end their first arc.

Wishing to the Blue Sky for Your Happiness!:

It's nice to see An struggle outside of her relationship with Kohane, and it really shows just how much Vivid Street and the people around her mean to her. Also:

I've honestly been having a good time with this. Yes, it takes a while to get through (I'm dreading getting to the 2+ hour ones), and I didn't like Ichika's focus, but I'm love seeing why I fell in love with this game again. Anyways, I'll probably do this again next week, until then. Also, HOLY HELL THERE’S A MOVIE.

I've been playing since release every day but it takes too long for me to upgrade my characters, I'm not f2p since I pay the autumn pass every month but since you seem far into the mechanics do you think this game is like, pay for play? I just wanna know if I am doing something wrong or if I'm a victim of capitalism 😭😭😭😭😭😭

to start off i wanna mention that my main account that i've been blogging about here is pay for play. however, i do have a second account that's completely free to play. with that said, here are my opinions from both point of views.

it all depends on your playstyle.

if you want to see fast results then it's 100% pay for play, but if you don't mind the slow grind then it's relatively f2p friendly.

i say this based on my own experience.

on my f2p account it's been a slow grind to level up memories and farm resources to be able to clear higher level fights. that's to be expected tbh. which is why i have to prioritize on what i want to focus on (ie. spending stamina to level up/ascend memories or farm protocores) and have good time management about it (ie. making sure not to cap on stamina, remember event deadlines etc). if you ask what i mostly focus on it's leveling up memories to level 60, as protocore farming requires a lot of stamina (20/run). protocore farming is late game content so i don't mind just doing the 1 core hunt a day to slowly build up those resources.

on my main account, to get to where i am, i spend quite a bit.. yet still responsibly and within my means. like the game says "Enjoy the game but don't get addicted" no one should ever compare their current standing to other players and should play at their own pace. there's absolutely no rush when it comes to the game!

so to answer your question: no, you're not doing anything wrong. time is money. all gachas are designed for you to want to pay to get ahead without waiting.

i do think the reward drops in bounty hunt are kinda lacking for the amount of resources required to level up memories past level 50. that's why as a f2p player the double rewards drop events are so good and you shouldn't miss out on those. if you're looking to level up fast then you're going to have to pay the price… literally :x

i also want to point out that there are also more ways to farm passive diamonds and other resources in game now thanks to the quality time updates. many new achievements have been added to the game that are easily obtainable by simply logging in. the new weekly activities even offers the ability to earn free pulls and stamina by spending "quality time" with the guys. ez right?

of course, there's always room for improvement. some things that many players have voiced their concerns about that i also agree on are the following:

optimize the battle features regarding the level difficulty and the rewards

adjust the rewards for getting duplicate cards

to reconsider scheduling of events -- a week for a limited-time banner doesn't give players enough time to save and should be longer

sorry this was such a long reply. i put a lot of thought behind this because i really want to stress that you're not alone in feeling that the grind is slow as a f2p/aurum pass player, and that you shouldn't feel discouraged by taking a while to clear a stage.

with how things are going with Solomare deciding to completely jump ship with the OG game and making NB the main focus/story line now, why couldn't they have just used the idea with NB as a way to add some new chapters to the OG, or even just a new event? It's upsetting to see that they basically want to scrap anything that's ever happened before in the story/timeline. I get the fact that technically, with barb's powers and all, it isn't a weird concept for NB to be the new "true" timeline and all, but still. I wish I could explain myself better right now lol.

I feel that OG game had so much more to offer and they made just made NB because the OG was getting very long (which isn't really a big issue??) so they said "f*CK it. Start fresh".

But now I wonder, when NB reaches a certain point in the story, will they do the same to it and make yet another game?? I'm starting to think that their April fools joke wasn't no joke at all.

for further context when i wrote the review on discord i had no idea that this was a COVER of an already existing song made by PARANOiD DJ back in 2021. just so i don't look stupid imma be tweaking a bit of my review that's just saying 'why would viv write THIS' because at most she just slightly changed it a bit, or that's what i'm assuming anyway.

i'm also gonna add a bit more to my review here such as the lyric changes and the overall emotional weight of the song. i'm not really gonna review it animation or song-wise, because the animation is fucking specTACULAR, and the song aspect doesn't matter much to me. i think the original 2021 version is pretty good at least.

this song [i'm guessing at least] comes after S2 E6 'OOPS', which was a half-sequel to S2 E1 'The Circus', meaning that Stolas finally has the Asmodean crystal that he plans to give to Blitzo, either to cut ties from him completely or to see if he'll keep talking to Stolas after he has a new way to get to earth that doesn't involve his grimoire.

(side note idk why viv keeps tryna push 'Stolitz' so much when Blitzo has actively said he doesn't like Stolas romantically and only sees him for the book. but she's gone on to change that multiple times so we went from Blitzo being forced to sleep with Stolas and hating it, to him actually having some kind of feelings, back to hating him, and now back to feelings, over and over. i know Blitzos whole character is that he can't accept affection properly but it's different when this 'affection' is just consensual r4pe via power imbalance and then has to be turned around so that neither Stolas or Blitzo are the bad guys when they clearly are.)

because of the song being made in around 2021, before season 2's downfall, the lyrics had to be changed to fit. which is completely fine to do, mind you, but the issue is what what lyrics in specific were changed. in the original 2021 version, Stolas mentions Octavia and how she must feel about everything happening in her life, but in the new version, it's cut out entirely. Why?? i know the main focus is supposed to be his relationship, but this entire situation is affecting his family as well, and especially Octavia. it makes no sense to completely neglect his own DAUGHTER for someone that he repeatedly fetishizes and treats as lower- but also someone that he idolizes and sees as his true love. i could go on and on about how the changes of their dynamic piss me off but that's a bit of a tangent.

speaking of which why is there 2 songs for stolas doing the same fucking thing. in S2E1 he's singing about blitzo while thinking about leaving him. now in THIS video he's.. singing about blitzo while thinking about leaving him, the only difference is that in the former song he didn't have the crystal, and now he does.

the song in general feels so forced especially with how the Stolitz arc has been progressing, which is barely. they last talked in S2E4 'WESTERN ENERGY' and the very little character it added was all shoved into a 3 second scene of Stolas scrolling thru text of them talking about the events after 'OZZIES'. and then we exclusively see Blitzos side of the aftermath, but not Stolas. he seems perfectly fine compared to Blitzo, or maybe he's not; why not fucking show that! and no the video doesn't count because it's talking about the events that take place after 'OOPS' not 'OZZIES'. pretty sure that former episode canonically takes place months before the latter.

i saw an amazing thread that breaks this video down if you compare it to pearl's song 'It's Over, Isn't It'. it just doesn't work the same way because of the insane power dynamic and the fact that Stolas wanted to keep Blitzo for so long, manipulating him for that want as well. at least he's finally going to let go NOW [i assume], but it feels long overdue, especially with how much these 2 have been forced to deal with.

The Prince of Egypt - London Musical

Ages ago now I went to see the West End production of the Prince of Egypt. And I've honestly not been able to stop thinking about it since.

I went back and watched it like three times. I watched the cinema release and I listen to the spotify album religiously.

So imma organise my thoughts here.

Before I saw it the first time I was kinda worried I'd be disappointed or that it wouldn't live up to the animation. I think the first time, I was inspecting it so much that I couldn’t enjoy it as much. But I still loved it to the point where I went again (musical tickets are expensive).

The story and characters were slightly to the animation. And when I first watched it I wasn't sure if I was going to like these changes. But honestly, I think the changes somehow managed to make the story 10x more profound. 

If you watch the interviews of the cast on YouTube, I think it's mentioned that they focus on humanising the characters. And to see them more as normal people experiencing the extraordinary. And you really sense that watching it.

The one thing that used to bother me about the film is the part where the first born in all of Egypt are taken. And I think adding Moses’s distress towards this made it seem so much more human. And well raw in a painful sense. There is a part in the song where Moses compares himself to a solider blindly following orders and I just loved having this inner conflict added. 

I think the main change I enjoyed was Remases character. They moved away from a stubborn villain character of the animation. And made him this misguided and lonesome character.

There's a particular scene that stuck with me, where Ramesses’s father dies and Rameses wife’s first reaction is to bow to him as pharaoh. The actor looks at her almost as if to say “what the hell” before turning to comfort his mother who instead of taking his hand also bows down to him. And he just kinda drops his hand. I don’t know but I could real feel his loneliness in this moment. Feel that he almost lost his mother in becoming pharaoh. And how this changed all his relationships.

There was also more fleshed out women characters than in the animation. The queen, Moses' adoptive mother, plays a much bigger role. There was a scene during the plagues where she speaks to Moses and it's just so painful on both sides. Then there's also the addition of Nefetari (Rameses' wife) who is also an interesting character.

Other than these changes in story and character writing, I also really enjoyed the way the stage was set up. So, the stage was quite simple and there were very minimal props. Most of the movement and scenes were created by an amazing ensemble. Like really, they played elements such as fire, sand and water as well as a chariot and horse and a variety of characters. It was really something.

Also the music (I almost forgot the most important part). There were some new songs and some adaptations to the soundtrack but all were amazing. Honestly I could write a whole post on just the music but this is already too long. Maybe another time.

The animation used to be one of my comfort films that I was watching on almost a weekly basis. But after watching the musical I've barely watched the animation. Because the musical was actually SO good that the film just doesn't hit the same. It’s just a shame it's not running anymore.

Lemon Eyes Part 1

I haven't written an x reader in so long, so I'm rusty. Gender Neutral reader btw. Also this 100% has some self indulgence aspects in it, this is a self insert blog after all. Pretty much follows the main game, it ended up taking a mind of its own because of the amount of times I had to pause writing to focus on school lmao. It doesn't matter for this fic series but Imma put it here anyways: I believe Arven to be around late 18 or early 19 range. Now that that's over with, let's get to the fic ! Words: 2,077 ----

Arven was never really a character of interest to you. Well, he was. Fighting titan Pokemon for their Herba Mystica–a name straight out of Minecraft Botania in your opinion–to make new recipes for food? Okay, you were mainly zoning out when he was talking to you, and again when he explained it when he, Nemona, and Cassotepia were fighting over your attention. A strawman fallacy out of your mind. Your plan for this treasure hunt was to capture all the other Pokemon in Paldea’s dex, being too lazy to do so in your home region. Paldea is a smaller piece of land anyways (A/N: in my opinion), so completing the 400 dex shouldn’t be too hard. 

Well, it wouldn’t be if you didn’t actually have to listen to those three; Using Operation Star to give your Pokemon more battle experience and using the gym challenge to capture more experienced Pokemon. Such a hassle. And before you knew it, La Primera was scouting you for the champion league. You might as well have done a favor for Arven, it's been about a week since the treasure hunt and he’s asked for your help. 

Which leads you to where you are now. Having fought off the Stony Cliff Titan, Kawlf, with Buizel and Arven’s Shellder as the first titan before now facing off against Dondozo, the false titan dragon, and final titan. Your goal of pursuing the full Pokedex on the back burner once Arven revealed his motive for gathering the Herba Mystica. You felt bad for ignoring his favor the first week of the treasure hunt, thinking about Mabosstiff in pain this entire time.

It doesn’t matter now, as your Toxtricity lands the finishing blow on the mini titan and Arven pats you on the back. You brush off the feelings of butterflies that rush to your stomach, chasing off the childish feeling as you follow him inside the cavern. Staring at the ground, you can’t exactly recall how it happened: falling for him. Maybe it was when you were in your dorm, exhausted from speedrunning all your classes to get back to your goals–scrolling through your Rotom phone for pictures to delete. Landing on the photos you had with Arven and you making sandwiches out of the herbs, noticing how much fun he was having even if the sandwich wasn’t as good as the two of you weren’t expecting. It made your chest feel fuzzy. You favorited a few and put them in an album, just in case you want to look back on memories. 

You found yourself often tracing around his face whenever you took a stroll down memory lane.

Maybe it was when you both had Home Economics together. Seeing him turn around and give you a smile with a thumbs up whenever you answered Professor Saguaro’s questions. Causing you to give a slight smile back before busying yourself with your doodles so you could avoid the heat rushing to your ears. Until finals, you couldn’t help but spare a few glances at him. At least it never affected your studies.

Well, the teachers noticed to say the least. You’ve always underestimated how obvious student crushes are to teachers, but not to peers. Visiting during their free time, only for the conversation to only subtly turn to Arven as your glances appeared to older adults as puppy gazes. You really have to keep that in check. Luckily, you always got what you needed out of the conversation class wise. Law of equivalent exchange because it's something for them to take back to their colleagues.

The interaction with History Professor Raifort was especially embarrassing, however. It revealed more than you would have liked when you approached her after class about the Scarlet Book, wanting to know more about the King’s tale. You remembered as her eyebrow went up, relaying the information that it has been checked out for quite a while and you must have known who has it because you spend your treasure hunt time with him. You felt your ears reach the point where the heat of them is visible to others, Ms. Raifort attempted to hide a chuckle beneath her hand. You thanked her for the information and quickly left.

You didn’t expect the teachers to learn how you dismissed Arven when you first met him, and it was through some shared experience that you have fallen this hard down the stairs of a crush. And the millions of ways the teachers’ minds could think of what that experience was keeps you up at night (of course, nothing too out there, mainly getting stuck somewhere for a long time. Nothing that crossed the boundaries of a teacher being pulled into the lives of their students). All because you fell for the boy who wants to heal his partner Pokemon.

“Hey bud? You haven’t taken a bite out of the sandwich, did I mess it up somehow?”

You blinked back into reality. Looking up from your sandwich that you don’t remember making with Arven, you felt pinned by his eyes as you tried to come up with an explanation that’s not ‘I think I love you’. You shook your head in response. Telling him that you just noticed how Koraidon hasn’t come out to eat your food yet, which speak of the devil, gets said Pokemon to come out of its ball.

Arven, of course, brings out the extra sandwich he begrudgingly made in this event, tossing it to Koraidon who ate it without a second thought. Both of your faces contort a bit, seeming to share the same question of  ‘did it even chew?’. After that animalistic scene, Arven brought out Mabosstiff, who looked much better than he had the first time you saw him. You felt awkward, mainly because it was such an intimate moment and you were nervous that the build up of anticipation would get to the poor canine, so you looked away as he ate. 

You looked back once he finished, watching in hope that he’d get up, do something other than lay down. Though, you understood it was a selfish desire soon after the thought came to mind. Arven’s face dropped as did yours as you both understood that even the Herba Mysticas couldn’t heal Mabosstiff. Scrambling for words to say, scouring your brain for comfort words, you held your tongue. It was best to let Arven silently express his disappointment to the wall. The pokeball fell, and you took a second before you sighed, getting up to go hand it over to Arven. But, your eyes widened as Mabosstiff lifted his head, beginning to put one leg up at a time. Your eyes meeting Arven’s as he had turned around to go to pick up the pokeball up as well, hope holding out for the two of you. You covered your mouth as Mabosstiff went over to pick up the ball, lifting it up towards Arven as his tail wagged. Arceus, you were tearing up. You couldn’t help but wrap an arm around Koraidon as Arven was overjoyed with the recovery of his partner Pokemon. After a good five minutes of joy, your Rotom phone began to ring. Rotom flew up to your face, answering the call and you were greeted by Professor Sada and her analysis on Koraidon’s abilities. You glanced at Arven, whose face was a mixture of surprise and anger, even more so when she implied it was she who lent you Koraidon. You shifted awkwardly in place, knowing that it was Arven who battled you to see if you were worthy in the first place. The mystery of the relationship of the two grew more as Professor Sada was surprised to hear his voice and recalled her efforts to contact him to which Arven rolled his eyes and showed little interest. It would have been a moment of brief empathy from you to Sada if she didn’t completely trash it by saying she needed him to get into her lab. But get into her lab…? The only one? Surely she would’ve had others to also have access to her lab. And why Arven? Well– that question felt more explanatory. They both resembled each other in many visual aspects, so you had assumed he was related to her in a way.

Your thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the call ending, blinking at the black screen. You weren’t paying attention again. Great. It didn’t matter as you looked up at Arven, confirming that yes, Professor Sada is his mother. “She was never at home with me, I haven’t seen her in years! And the first thing she wants out of me is to go to her lab?!” You gave him an empathetic look as he decompressed, thinking to himself. He sighed, and before you could console him about the matter, about to tell him that the two of you didn’t have to go to her lab and could just ignore her, he started talking again. “I might as well get you into that lab, the one off of Poco Path. That’s where we met, remember?” You smiled slightly at the last part, nodding, giving him a small, “Of course I do.”

That got him to smile a bit as well, announcing that the two of you should get going before he changes his mind. You started to walk off, Arven pausing, but you assumed it was to decompress further. Oh Professor Sada, where are you?

It’s safe to say that the moment you see the Professor, instead of greeting her in a friendly way, you might just throw a right hook at her instead. 

Listening to Arven and seeing her reaction of seeing her son after so many years only to call him to the deepest part of the most dangerous place in all of Paldea? Arceus, Arven was right (although you never doubted him), she was the worst parent. She definitely rivals the one lady in the Alolan region you had heard about. You weren’t sure you even wanted to go. But you could tell that even if he didn’t know it yet, Arven wanted closure about his mom’s disappearance and neglect. So when he asked if you were going to Area Zero, you said yes. What caught you off guard was the glare he had given you, even if you understood he was in an emotionally vulnerable state. Ouch. But he did agree to go, and he was 100% pumped up to start a fist fight with his mom, even if he only spoke daggers instead of throwing them. With that, he challenged you to a Pokemon battle, admitting it was to see if he was ready or not, causing a slight blow of air to come out of your nose. Your best friend was a dork.

You lagged behind to look over the lab while he headed outside, both to appeal to your curiosity and to push your feelings back down further. His glare wasn’t personal, but it felt that way. He probably felt a bit betrayed by your response no doubt, originally wanting nothing to do with his mother, and yet here his best friend was, seemingly compliant with being an errand boy. You leaned against the dusty couch, watching the dust particles rush to fill the air. Immediately getting back up and dusting yourself, you don’t know why you expected the couch to be worth leaning against. 

You started walking around the lab. Examining everything of interest to get your mind off your internal battle. If abandoning her child wasn’t proof enough to show how dedicated her research was, then surely the mess of papers and a hundred or so books definitely was. You thought about taking down the boxes on top of the shelf, but decided against it. You’d get lost in her research, trying to figure out what was so important that Arven had to be collateral damage.

All this made you feel worse for neglecting him at the start of the treasure hunt, but there’s nothing you could do about the past. Besides, you’re making up for it now by being there for him, aren’t you?

Cracking your neck, you headed for the door, taking a breath–cough because of the dust after–you stepped out. Looking at Arven as he redirects his attention from Mabosstiff to you, smiling at him and nodding, Arven returns your actions. All because of a boy and his partner Pokemon.

My little review of “Elemental” (spoilers!)

Imma be honest my expectations weren’t insanely high. I wasn’t expecting it to be fantastic but I didn’t think it would be bad (Pixar movies almost never are) so I just went in neutral. I saw it with my friends and before we went in they kept bashing it solely bc of how bad the promos are—and honestly they’re right. The marketing for this movie sucks. Do not let any of it fool you, please watch this film. I guarantee you will end up enjoying it.

Now I know everyone was making fun of the character designs since the first teaser was released. I’ll admit some of the background characters are a little lazy and while the designs could’ve been better, the animation made up for it because holy shit is it beautiful. The visuals are absolutely stunning, and I just love the way the characters move and interact with each other and their environment. I can’t imagine how tough it was to animate all of that, especially when your main protagonist is made of fire and therefore is always moving in some way.

I won’t go too much into the whole interracial relationship/struggles of multicultural families aspect because I feel like other people reviewing this movie can explain it so much better than me, but I gotta say really appreciate the fact Elemental had a romance plot but still focuses on the values and importance of family, especially because in most kids films they choose to solely focus on one or the other. I’m glad media is showcasing familial love but not completely abandoning romantic love either.

I’ve seen a lot of people try and compare this to Zootopia, I guess cuz it takes place in a metropolis city and features a mixed ‘race’ main duo and racism/oppression allegories. Honestly tho a lot of movies do this, it’s not a “rip off” of Zootopia cuz it takes place in a city. In Zootopia the city is a prime focus, it’s almost like it’s own character. The whole point is that it’s a place special to mammals because it’s where dreams can come true, where all animals live in harmony together. It’s a dream home for its main character who has to come to terms with the fact it’s not a perfect place. Elemental isn’t as focused on its location and that’s ok. It’s a sanctuary for Ember’s parents when they first arrive, but overall the story isn’t about the city.

Ok now I’ll get to the part you’re here for; Ember and Wade’s story. Wholehearted truth; I love their dynamic and development so much. I definitely felt like they needed more screentime at first (to me the pacing in general was a little rushed in the beginning, then slowed down towards the middle). Call me a hopeless romantic but I’m just sucker for that forbidden love type shit. I’ve seen people try and call this a Romeo and Juliet romcom but I didn’t personally get that from them. I can see why some might interpret it that way cuz they were hiding it from Ember’s dad, Bernie. But really, I wish we’d stop comparing every forbidden relationship to Romeo & Juliet cuz A. that play is so fucked up and is barely a love story and B. there are a million tales of forbidden love out there, it’s intriguing. It sells well for a reason and if you do it right it makes an amazing story!

Anyway, I really adore their dynamic. It’s so refreshing to see a non-married couple say “I love you” in a Disney movie. It’s a simple yet deep, beautiful expression of one’s feelings, I was not expecting them to go that route but I’m so happy they did. I’m even more happy they kissed (I was trying so hard not to squeal at that part, you don’t even know)

I’ll be going on and on about how cute Ember and Wade are on this blog. I’m super excited to add them to the Pixar AU, can’t WAIT to write all kinds of one shots about them tehe.

Sorry if you were expecting a more deep and profound review, I’m just here expressing my thoughts five hours after leaving the theater. I plan on going to see it again sometime so maybe I’ll have more to say after that.

Overall I definitely recommend giving this one a chance. Don’t listen to critics or dumbasses on tik tok, go see it! For me this movie already has a special place in my heart and I hope you guys will enjoy it as much as I did!
