She gets her revenge within the hour, slipping out while he’s buried under the piles of paperwork she’s been neglecting that are too urgent to wait on forcing her to work. Hah.

Well, she probably had to be here, anyway, official business with Makiri and the Countess and all but- it was nice. To see her. To have her near, as if this meant nothing.

Haki is getting married. She’d known it was coming. It still feels so sudden.

“Oh,” she’d said, bland as even Haki can’t make her not be. “That’s good,” she’d tried, because it is. The Countess must’ve been ecstatic. “Congratulations?”

Haki had smiled, that patient, familiar thing. “I wanted to tell you myself,” she’d said, like it was a secret. Like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

Before she left (left her behind, left her office for the last time because without her here there’s no point to Retsu being here either, to clinging to the nearest thing she can find without asking for something she doesn’t deserve), she had asked what Retsu wanted.

Because Haki was going to be Queen and it was not the King’s choice alone. She is happy. She wants this.

Retsu’s never wanted much. Peace and quiet sometimes, the ruckus of the training hall and the bustle of the city other times. A home to come back to. Haki, close as she’s always been.

Lilias is cold and unforgiving and so very far from Wistal, even though it had been just far enough from the Arleon estate.

Haki is leaving, so she will, too. The other way.

It’s not some eternal farewell, but when she sees her off, all the way to the city’s edge, after she’d spoken to Makiri and the Countess and whatever other business she’d had to tend to (long gone are the days when Haki’s business was her business, yet it aches like yesterday) - she feels something break.

She hands in her resignation after the wedding. The way Makiri instantly curses her out almost cheers her up. Dorji breaking down in tears screaming, “Fucking finally!” does not. Rena’s crying is even worse for how utterly sincere it is. Really, you do a good deed once and you never hear the end of it.

Haki of Arleon is crowned Queen Consort. Her sister’s generosity will have to serve her for now.

Join the Winterkov Cult

So.... episode 6, huh. I'm just gonna be frank and say that I 100% ship the Winter King with Simon. These two old men should kiss, and I'm not about to act like I'm saying this in a joking way either. However, I do have a few things to say in regard to this ship.

Firstly, I get the people that don't ship Winterkov or say that they're joking whenever they make post about it, but there are people that do genuinely ship these two together. I get how self-shipping has gotten a bad rep due to the oncler and certain undertale shippers, but at its core, shipping is just supposed to be in good fun. Winterkov in itself is goofy in a way that's all in good fun.

If that makes you uncomfortable, that's also valid. Just don't tell me about it, and feel free to block. I don't really post on Tumblr much, but if I start to, one can possibly expect some Winterkov propaganda. Of course, the power of old man yaoi changed that.

Also, in regards to the name, can we all just simultaneously agree to use the tag of Winterkov over Simoncest? The name Simoncest makes me think of incest which just isn't the case at all for this ship. His asexuality and possible aromanticism is always ignored by the fandom in favor of shipping, and inclusive Vivziepop even said to do as they pleased with his sexuality for shipping.

-forced positivity, pushing the idea that even murderers, abusers and horrible people can change hazbin hotel

Depicting abuse (Crimson hitting Moxxie, the whole Valangel tag existing) and sexual assault (again woth Moxxie and angel) as funny jokes or sexy

-Noticing a pattern, Viv tends to promote M/M relationships a lot but depicts them as overtly sexual, predatory and toxic, and seems to have a problem with having "twink" characters abused sexually in a yaoi-ish way (Addison, Moxxie and Angel, Vox. Stolas/blitz too.)

-the only two people of color that are confirmed are Alastor, Velvette and Valentino. Velvette's color is very ashy and she is often infantilised (this might have more to do with her being a woman in Vivs eyes) she presents no POC features at all, neither does Valentino who is a stereotypical black man who is a pimp, abusive (sexually too) and has a short temper.

-using "it's hell " as an excuse to make horrible characters to glorify and depict as the true victim while doing nothing to become better. (Ex. Stolas is a rapist , Blitzo Sexually harrasses his co-workers and is very toxic, Alastor is a serial killer.) Depiction is not glorification, but Viv actively makes it seem like all of it is okay to do and has a show who has a very negative message that affects the viewers and fanbase into excusing disgusting shit.

-disrespecting religion by not accurately researching the demons she talks about

-Sexist writing in helluva and hazbin that favores males(Loona,Millie,Stella, Verosika)

-ableist language by Blitzo, refusal to acknowledge this and even joking about not being able to say a slur

-collaborates with Brandon Rogers,whose work is clearly sexist,racist,homophobic and ableist

-making fun of eating disorders (Moxxie)

-involving kesha in her show while she is trying to get justice for being abused and trying to recover, making the character she voices based on all the things she hated about herself

-included famous voice actors, pays thousands for them but actively underpaid and overworked her staff

-No trigger on an episode that contained Blitzo vomiting

-Barbie wire grooming a teenager is considered a joke (and the tweet doesn't count, we should be able to tell if the teen was actually older by his design or any line of dialogue, if those who don't have twitter won't know it means it's a problem)

-various incest jokes hinting at proshipping (Moxxie/Millie, and a rumor +dialogue cues hint at Andrealphus and Stella being in a relashionship)

-merch of almost all female characters being somewhat sexual

-depicting the Woman/Man as the only healthy relationship (Moxxie/Millie) while the queer couples are toxic (Chaz/Moxxie Blitzo/Stolas)

Holy shit that's a long read, I suggest you make that into a blog post or something. The only portion I can assume that you got correct is the third section. Most of the first two sections are spot on to me, but I am not sure if they're both completely correct because I'm not really aware of what Vivziepop did in the past, just what she has been doing since like last year. Sorry to disappoint, but it is pretty great from what I'm reading.

Modify it to what you think is best so that people will read from it and test read it yourself in case you got something wrong. I suggest you use Grammarly for grammar or spelling issues because even though English is my first language I still struggle with those

It’s extremely weird people keep commenting on that Laserhawk shipping shit post with crap like “well Rayfrog is healthier-“ when the two aren’t even canon and their romantic dynamic is pure fan speculation as this point, not to mention it’s an extremely shallow view of both the characters and the show’s themes.

Yes Alex sucks ass, but to say people shouldn’t even attempt to explore Alex and Dolph's relationship in favour of a non canon ship because it’s “healthier” is just so? Dolph has so much tragedy to his character that also says so much about the environment that Dolph and many other kids who grew up like him had to experience in the setting of Eden, and Alex plays a huge part of that.

To say Alex x Dolph isn’t worth “shipping” is to basically admit you don’t care for the show’s themes of exploitation, abuse and trauma under an uncaring capitalist dystopia.

Regardless if Alex’s love was genuine, the relationship he had with Dolph was no different to how Eden used Dolph as a tool and I think that’s definitely far more interesting than just “what if Rayman makes out sloppy style with twink Globox?”

Also, you know you don’t have to ship “ethically”, right? You can have spice. Obviously criticising ships and fiction shouldn’t be taboo either but everyone is “problematic” to some degree. Please use the block button

Edit: I wanted to add now that I thought about this more is that I now realise what it is that bugs me about Rayfrog despite it being a good ship , and it’s not because it’s the most popular ship in the fandom or the two are hog 90% of tags all over the place

It’s because we got a situation where a chunk of the fandom wants to focus on Rayfrog being a wholesome ship while actively ignoring the source material is full of dark , mature and outright problematic story elements, so people who want to talk about Laserhawk’s less vanilla aspects are drowned out by people who joke about rayfrog being toxic yaoi/yuri but can’t actually handle actual toxic yaoi/yuri (wanna stress this does not apply to everyone who ships rayfrog but it’s a noticeable bias on that shit post I made)

probably also awkward that Rayman’s original series is aimed at kids so 🤷‍♀️

I was looking at your dungmeshi tag and I was wondering what do you mean by not liking the fandom takes on Kabru?

I have a lot of beef with fandom's tendency to woobify characters as well as put shipping as their top priority and the Kabru tag on this site is a masterclass in both at once. As with the rest of the DM cast, he's a flawed character both in morals and being kind of pathetic because that's how everyone is written in manga, and it owns. For Kabru, it's being a masterful manipulator who even with good intentions is still an expert in lying his way in life - that's the morally dubious part. His manipulation works so well it bites him back - that's the funny part.

The posts who populate his tag ignore both to use him as shipping fuel with Laios and Mithrun and while usually I just cringe at ship stuff and move on both pairings here rub me the wrong way. Laios is the least offensive - and in the text, Kabru hates him for his tendency to accidentally bring up topics that are traumatizing to him without realizing. Mithrun is even worst because not only does he not care about Kabru in the slightest, he's also much older than him in both actual age and human equivalent, Kabru being barely an adult and Mithrun middle aged man. Mithrun is also racist towards men and looks down on them, and his relationship with Kabru, in which he serves him, I've seen eroticized a lot by fanartists despite nothing of sorts being in the text and the obvious reason of please think twice before doing this to one of the only brown guys in the full manga holy SHIT

That last point isn't brought up in the story itself (DM tends to not focus on character ethnicity which is another can of worms and not inherently negative) but the rest is. It's explicitly in the text as fuel for plot elements and a lot of jokes, but fans ignore all of this because it'd go in the way of their yaoi doll game...

There's very little appreciation for the character outsides of this, despite most of his time in the story not being dedicated to his (lack of, lol) romantic relationships. His personality and schemes are very important and imo a key to even liking the character but they're ignored. I do not doubt many fans do appreciate them but they're not the people filling the Tumblr tag.

DM writes excellent characters who are complex, flawed and funny and Kabru is a shining example of good character traits being tossed asides because people only care for him as the other side to ships who themselves are very uncomfortable

I've talked about it with fans on a Discord before, who had character centric channels. His was only filled with low effort ship jokes. I once raised the question of why people didn't make shipping content with the sole character who's hinted at having feelings for him, his childhood bestie, and people immediately told me "it's gross! The guide says he likes her in a brotherly way!" but I want to assume it's mostly because she's not a white boy. These people did not beat an eye at the maid jokes btw 👍

I have weird hangups about m/f with my fave characters in a lot of fandoms, and those issues are personal in nature and unrelated to the quality of the ship. I'm begging more people to recognize the same thing within themselves. people shipping more m/m than whatever your fave is are not fucking hurting you, and whatever your issues are, they're YOURS to deal with. same for any other dynamic, or headcanon, or whatever. stop resenting other fans for enjoying the series differently than you do.

Hello, I'm not really active in the TMA fandom, but I just want to say I really like your takes! This fandom often (sometimes jokingly, sometimes not) portrays Jon as a rather weak, small, 'pathetic' man, and that's something that never quite sat right with me. He gets attacked and thrown into perilous situations constantly by powerful, supernatural beings, doing the best he can to survive, so this feels like people are kinda mocking his vulnerability, there. What are your thoughts on this?

Hello! I'm glad you enjoy my posts. I have raged a lot against fanon conceptions of Jon, so I do have some thoughts.

First of all, as others more equipped than me to have that particular conversation have pointed out, it's very telling that Jon gets this treatment when he is canonically asexual and universally headcanonned and drawn as ambiguously brown. I haven't been checking the tags in a while, but as far as I'm aware, the phenomenon of him being constantly belittled and infantilised by the fandom (most often for the sake of JM) is ongoing.

To me, aside from the aforementioned racism and aphobia, the biggest problem is the reduction of characters to memeable traits. As a person, Jon has horrible things happen to him, is pushed past any average person's breaking point, and is implied to be physically on the weaker side. And this is a fun space to play around in. But it's (1) boring, (2) in poor taste, and (3) often carrying implicit biases (see: racism and aphobia) when they take these facts and use them to write Jon as a helpless yaoi boyfriend who is unable to bite back and who starts crying because he saw a picture of a penis online (yes, that is something I have seen).

Add to this the "Jon is so dumb, lol" jokes that cheapen the themes of the show by implying that there is a way out but that he is just too incompetent to see it (see: Archivist Sasha fix-its) and the racist jokes about him not showering or whatever, and you have concocted the Jon you see in the memes. This mischaracterization also leads to things like the wider fandom reaction to MAG 199-200, when fans dismissed Jon's perspective just as quickly as the characters, and everyone seemed to believe that everything would've been fine if Jon "just had listened to Martin".

And it's so pernicious because Jon wouldn't be alive if he weren't resilient past what should be required of him: Elias spells it out himself in MAG 160 that he needed to test Jon's ability to survive if he was going to use him as a lynchpin. Plus, he is also very intelligent (as seen when he finds Gertrude's hiding place off the creak of a floorboard in a recording), so the claims about him being stupid for not immediately grasping the rules of a horrific world when he has none of the privileges afforded to the audience don't hold any water either.

I could go on about this, but I'm already having trouble structuring the post at this length, so I'll leave it at that. As you see, this is a topic I've thought about a lot since fighting in the trenches when the show was still airing and people insisted he was an idiot, aha. Have a good day!

Question, after "Tweek x Craig" came out did anyone ever attempt to source all the fan-submitted artwork that was featured? I wouldn't be surprised if most of them have long since left the fandom.

I have a couple of them on my archive blog, some people did post and say they were submitting certain artwork or posted after the episode that their artwork was featured... but there is still a handful that I do not know who or where it came from. The tricky thing is about 3/4ths the art in the episode during the initial scene (and I think all of the break up scene) were drawn in-house by the sp animators, so it's also hard to know what is fan drawn (I say this loosely, because there are several sp animators who are still producing fanart as a side thing and post it here on tumblr/twitter if you find them) and what is "official" from the team.

AND EVEN THEN-- a lot of us submitted TERRIBLE joke art full of yaoi troupes and absolute nonsense because we did not take it seriously, which many of us regret to this day. And we made poor nal look at our atrocities since he confirmed to help sort through them.
