something about how both orpheus and lot are not allowed to look back. something about both ray & walter and thelma & louise continuing to move forward even if it's a dead end. something about not knowing if frank turns back or if he just keeps going, just keeps looking at Sonny.
The Modern Gomorrah is at this beautiful crossroads where it can be both these narratives at the same time. Where both Thelma & Louise and Thunderheart are from the 90's, TMG had to be more ambiguous in its "the gays drive off, chased by law enforcement" ending - but that doesn't make it any less powerful. I'm thinking about the symbolism of Frank's rear view mirrors being all ripped off or cracked during the car chase. How the only option that leaves him is to trust Sonny to tell him what to expect, and to keep going. I'm thinking about how Orpheus is doomed by looking at his love, while Frank is freed. I'm thinking about Louise hitting that gas pedal knowing they will die, Ray hitting that gas pedal trusting they're going to get out, and Frank hitting that gas pedal not knowing anything - he doesn't believe he's doomed anymore, but he doesn't know if they're saved either.
I'm thinking about that final shot, that short moment where the music sets in, and just before the freeze frame, Frank looks to the side and you don't know if he's gonna look at Sonny or turn further to look over the shoulder, look back at the city that nearly destroyed him, and doom himself after all. We get to decide where he looks. And when they wrote it like that, they knew. They knew we were going to read the story like that, because that's the story they wanted to tell, all censorship and everything else aside.

Tiffany Aching is the ultimate weird little girl. Terry Pratchett went 'actually it's fine if you're angry and petty and overlooked and want to be selfish sometimes even if that's not a role you feel like you can play within your family structure. Also reading the dictionary is normal'

for the folks who wanted all of Susan Twist's casting appearances to date, here you go:
Mrs Merridew in Wild Blue Yonder
Mystery Woman in The Church on Ruby Road (uncredited)
Comms Officer Gina Scalzi in Space Babies (uncredited)
Tea Lady in The Devil's Chord
Ambulance in Boom
i don't believe Russell for a second, that they just 'ran out of actors' 😂 i am convinced that this mystery woman played by Susan Twist is some sort of embodiment of Story, the way Maestro is the embodiment of Music. the way she keeps playing supporting parts, the reference to Margaret Lockwood in The Wicked Lady...
there's a few theories percolating right now, but i think she's a large part of the reason why the fourth wall keeps being broken. it's strange, how intrusive her presence is...it seems that with each episode, her importance to the plot grows stronger. she's gone from small speaking roles which don't impact the story, to directly interacting with the Doctor and Ruby, to being capable of killing characters in the central plot...
is it possible that Susan Twist's character is attempting to take over the narrative and become the main character of Doctor Who herself? 👀

Prompt 84
Amity Park absolutely adores her little ghostling, her little Gatekeeper who was of her own ectoplasm, reborn from her own blood in the center of her new heart. She absolutely adores her baby, practically a newborn, being only a year dead!
So of course she had to gush and boast about her little phantom to the other city spirits! They all got together to gossip sometimes after all. And both Smallville and Fawcett started to gush about their own little ones back!
Gosh they should set up a playdate at some point, her little phantom could use some friends in the mortal realm. Well some more friends, three is obviously not enough. Oh, Gotham and Bludhaven have come over as well! It’s a playdate then!
Now if only each of their world’s timelines were synced up, but at least everyone is around the same age!
