Charles / Oscar 😇

It starts as an inside joke.

If an inside joke can be shared with millions of people on twitter. Charles 'adopted' Oscar, so Monaco can be his home race too. The social media admins love running a joke to the ground for interaction and post engagement.

Oscar plays along. A 'morning, dad' when walking past Charles on the grid, a polite 'excuse me, pa' when stepping out from the driver's meeting. Even the grill the grid where the answer is the obvious Monegasque driver, Oscar gives a deadpan 'that's my ol' man' and the answer dings in his favour, acknowledging the long running joke. It's gotten to the point he hardly addresses Charles by name anymore.

He never says daddy, because that would make it weird.

Charles indulges in it. It's silly, and he enjoys the family tree posters fans show up with - which imply he is both Oscar and Leo's father. The joke of it all is Oscar is his brother's age and he's not some old geezer like Fernando. He plays along too. When Oscar wins a race, Charles winks at him and says good job, sport, and Oscar smiles at him, eyes crinkling at the reference. Brushes past him with a 'sorry, kid.' When they're on the podium together, Charles says 'well done, my son' into his ear in front of the cheering crowd of thousands and enjoys the way Oscar's neck flushes pink before drowning him in champagne.

When Oscar books the hotel room, he says it's just gonna be him and his dad, but no extra beds required.

And Oscar is on his knees, looking up obediently, Charles pulls his head by the hair smearing precome against his red, bitten mouth and says, "open up for papa." Oscar parts his lips with a moan, eyes closed.

He's always dad. Dad, please. I've been good, let me come. I want to spend the weekends with you. I love you. Can we go to the game together?

Charles runs his knuckles around Oscar's cheek, and promises to not be a deadbeat father.

Of course I will play catch with you and Leo.

"Girldad" Bruce Wayne pisses me off so much

Understandable.

Bruce pretty much only has boys, except for Cass. And I guess Stephanie, but not really. I mean, Bruce was really sexist towards Steph during her Robin days, but mainly the fandom talks about Bruce being a girldad towards Cass.

But I still understand why it feels odd for Bruce to be called a "Girldad".

Bruce didn't teach her how to ride a bike, or have tea parties with her growing up. He didn't struggle to learn how to tie a ponytail for her, or awkwardly help when she was having her first period, but that's because. Bruce didn't raise Cass, Cass raised Cass. Bruce didn't raise any of the younger girls who entered his life as mentees

Does that mean they aren't going to love each other in a familial way? No, of course not.

But I do think prime 80's comics Bruce Wayne would be a total GirlDad. But as the writing went on, and as he became more of a male power fantasy, Bruce's character changed into someone who was a bit mysogenistic. That Bruce is the one who interacts with both Cass and Steph, not 80's comics Bruce.

But the fun thing about fanon, is that we can mix and match different charactarizations of different characters, use different AUs and tweak backstories.

Though, I do understand certain fandom takes being infuriating and needing to rant about them(trust me) so if you want to rant more about why you don't like "Girldad Bruce" in my inbox, I'm down.

frrr its just like bro cmon do something different. I like it when shows explore parental issues and stuff but it just feels overused at this point. and yeah charlie and via’s are def not explored at all.

for charlie, i mean i kinda get it but not really? theres been like foreshadowing of how they were “pulled apart” and its not j like lucifer idk leaving for no reason, but still one lil father daughter duet doesnt erase that yk? and (theory) if lillith or some external thing pried them apart why didnt lucifer just say that to charlie instead of pulling up and being like “lol sorry. caviar mountain anyone?”. i hope we focus on that next season and more of like morningstar family lore instead of backstory stuff. Yes, using daddy issues as traumatic backstory for multiple characters is not great. I agree with you. But the thing that really takes the cake for me is one thing in particular. And I wanna say for the record that this is my personal opinion so keep that in mind.

As far as using Daddy Issues as a major theme in Hazbin Hotel —They dropped the ball so fucking hard with Charlie and Lucifer. One of the reason the pilot for Hazbin caught my attention was because it looked like the daughter of the Devil was going to be this optimist that wanted to help people rather than hurt and scare them for all eternity. And in turn, Lucifer (and Lilith) would be disappointed in his only child for turning out that way because Lucifer would be more akin to how he’s normally portrayed (evil).

I was so on board to root for Charlie. And I was excited for the possibility of Lucifer, after practically disowning his daughter for not meeting his expectations, realizing that Charlie is his own reflection: a rebel adamant on changing the status quo.

Y’all know I love Hazbin’s Lucifer. He’s my poor little meow meow. But damn it, we could’ve had something really beautiful!

…Yeah.

And oh god. Honey I could write a 10 page paper on Stolas’s neglect of Octavia and how mistreated she is not only by him but by her own creators and the fandom for Helluva Boss. It’s wild. It’s mystifying. It makes me grip the bars of my cage as I wait for the day when a lot of these younger fans get older and realize how messed up the whole thing is.

hot take: some people use found family as an avenue to explore non-traditional platonic relationships that are subversive of both the traditional nuclear family structure And platonic relationships as secondary. this is important

some people use found family as a way to project and work through their own hang ups with their own familial relationships.

these two categories are not inherently separate, the subversion of the nuclear family structure and embracing of more ambiguous platonic relationships can be very important to working through those very hang ups. some people can need and want different things at different points.

but the fact is

it's not actually inherently a bad thing for people to project more traditional familial roles onto the found family trope. it can be a very healing experience for some people to do so.

the frustration of someone going to a trope to find a specific kind of content and not getting it is understandable, but people having different needs and wants while sharing a space is not inherently a bad thing.

who do you think are the most annoying companions from each game?

Hmmmm, that's kind of tough. All of the companions have annoyed me one way or another at some point, but most annoying? in general?

For DAO, I'd say Oghren. I love all of my DAO companions, Oghren included. I think he's a more compelling character than people give him credit for, but his grossness does grate on my nerves easily. Actually, I think he's the only companion I've ever sent back to camp after a party banter triggered because I was like "....alright, that's enough of that, I'm bringing the dog instead."

It's especially bad in Awakening when you have him in a party with Sigrun, but I keep them together because it's worth it to hear her take him down a bunch of pegs while accusing him of being terrified of women.

For DA2, at this point I think it's on brand for me to say Aveline, though Sebastian's a close second. Sebastian's only in second because I straight up forget about him for long periods of time... but then when I do have him in a party, so much of what he says makes me stop and go, ".........Sir, if you could stop talking, that'd be great."

I use Aveline a lot, however. I've talked about my beef with her in several posts, usually when it comes to her dynamic with my Hawke and Carver. But she's also in a position of power while saying things like "people choose to live here? it amazes me" about the people of darktown, and what happened with the elves, I just.... I want to grab her by the shoulders and shake her, she annoys me.

For DAI, that's a hard one... I think most people would say Sera, but honestly? Sera doesn't annoy me any more than the other companions??

I'm really wracking my brain here to remember if anyone annoys me above the others... I don't know! I almost want to say Blackwall solely because of the Thom Rainier thing but that would make me a massive hypocrite! My Lavellan lies about her original identity, too; she's Surana from DAO who escaped the tower with Jowan! I can't be annoyed at Blackwall for lying!

Cassandra annoys me with her Chantry bullshit, Bull annoys me with the qun bullshit, Solas annoys me when he shit talks about the Dalish, Dorian gets fed to a high dragon every time I hear him talk about "well slavery's not ALL bad-", Vivienne and Blackwall are made to wear The Armor of Shame every time I get sick of their bickering, I threaten to take Bianca away every time Varric talks about Anders, like.... y'know what? Everyone but Cole.

Cole is the only companion in DAI who doesn't annoy me, let's put it like that because I can't honestly decide.

But this could change, like it's been a hot minute since I've replayed DAI and I'm currently replaying the series soooo.... we'll see.
