Look at Temptation Differently.
Hi there! It’s common to assume the worst about temptation, but would your life be different if you saw it as an opportunity to align with the highest version of yourself? In today’s Heart-to-Heart Monday discussion, I discuss: 1. What is temptation? 2. What is its function? 3. How can you use temptation to align with the Highest version of yourself and do the work you are here to do? James…

We made it to episode 13 (Alone) and so far they’re loving the podcast. Their favourite episodes so far are Anglerfish, Across the Street, and The Piper. They also really liked hearing from an outside voice with Naomi recording her statement direct from subject. We’ve already made plans to hangout and listen to more possibly on Sunday! I’m SO looking forward to showing them Lost John’s Cave, Freefall, Colony, and A Distortion, I know they’re gonna love Michael DOWN

God chooses David as King
1 And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse, the Bethlehemite: for I have provided Me a king among his sons. 2 And Samuel said, How can I go? If Saul hear it, he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD. 3 And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show thee what thou shalt do; and thou shalt anoint unto Me him whom I name unto thee. 4 And Samuel did that which the LORD spoke, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably? 5 And he said, Peaceably; I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD. Sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.
6 And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD’s anointed is before him. 7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature, because I have refused him; for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. 8 Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this one. 9 Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this one. 10 Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these. 11 And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him; for we will not sit down till he come here {hither}. 12 And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and {withal} of a beautiful countenance, and handsome {goodly to look to}. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him; for this is he. 13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren; and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day onward {forward}. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah. — 1 Samuel 16:1-13 | King James Bible: Purple Letter Edition (KJBP) The King James Bible: Purple Letter Edition © 2009 by Jim Musser. All rights Reserved. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
Hebrews 13:8

James 1:12-16 (NIV). [12] “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. [13] When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; [14] but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. [15] Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. [16] Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters.”
1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV). “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
James 4:7 (NLT). “So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
“Defend Against Temptation” By In Touch Ministries:
“Temptation comes to all; the wise prepare for it.”
“When we struggle with temptation, understanding how it works can be helpful. Every sin originates as a thought (James 1:14-15). If we hold on to the thought, it becomes a fantasy—the chance to imagine what pursuing that notion would be like, without actually doing so. Fantasies can easily become entangled with our emotions. This creates a desire, which brings us to the point where a choice must be made. And we must either consent to the sin or refuse. This process is quite dangerous, as the progression from thought to choice can be almost instantaneous.
Wise believers determine ahead of time to resist temptation. They build the defense before the offense happens. There are two cornerstones to a good defense: the recognition that God’s in control and the commitment to obey Him (1 Corinthians 10:13; James 4:7).
We can further fortify our defense when temptation actually comes. Satan has a way of spotlighting the pleasure of sin until it’s all we see. But with prayerful effort, we can retrain our focus to take in the bigger picture: Is this choice a violation of God’s Word? What are the consequences?
No one can resist temptation perfectly—we’ll all continue to struggle with sin. But the more we meditate on Scripture and communicate with God, the stronger our defense will be.”

again an episode with major tos vibes - isn't there one pretty similar actually? with the android scientist that lives underground as well - only difference is kirk (of course) makes out with one of the female looking androids?
anyway, plot-wise not very inventive, but I loved data in this, the way you could see the subtleties of his character and that he's not just a random robot with no personality or comic relief. and brent spiner did a really great job at portraying both data and lore, even though (or maybe because) he acted exactly like a james bond villian.
oh and when picard said that data was just a differently wired person or smth like that - the autism parallels and neurodiversity acceptance! I wonder if someone wrote this who was or knew someone who was autistic bc sometimes it's so accurate. like spock is clearly autistic coded too but the others are usually like "spock you're so annoying" or generally just "vulcans are so weird" and data actually has so much support and acceptance from his crewmates :))
in other scenes though, picard annoyed me immensely. the way he's unable to reflect on his behavior and apologize or at least acknowledge that he was wrong. and not just in this episode. the "shut up wesley" really gave me the rest. I've said this before, but I always thought wesley's bullying would be some funny bit, but this is lowkey triggering.
and that bev (yes, I'm calling her that now, we're that close) only gets to be the mom at all times is so frustrating. I read this was one of the reasons gates mcfadden was written out of season 2 bc she didn't want to be stereotyped like that anymore. like you can actually tell when she says "as his mother? you're ordering me from the bridge because of that?", she looks so incredulous and actually furious. I hope she gets a bit more character development in the later seasons, but I've heard she never fully got that :(
so overall pretty medium episode, but it makes me excited about what's to come for data!
