Cabinet Endorsements

One thing that's flown a bit below the radar in this election is that former cabinet members haven't been acting like they usually do. Normally, former cabinet members will automatically endorse their former boss for re-election, but Trump's have not been doing that.

This is of particular interest because, while we, the voters, get to see the President give speeches and the like, we don't actually work with him. Presumably a cabinet member is someone who agrees with the president and who the president trusts and who gets to work closely with the president, so their opinion of the president is an important benchmark.

With that in mind, let's take a look at the 44 former cabinet members of the Donald J. Trump administration and the 2 former cabinet members of the Joseph R. Biden administration. I'll put an (E) next to the ones that have endorsed their former boss, an (H) next to the ones who haven't yet, and an (R) next to the ones who have outright refused to do so.

The first thing we notice, obviously, is that there are a whole lot more former Trump cabinet members. This is partially because Biden is still in office so his 23 current cabinet members are not counted (it'd be a huge surprise if they didn't endorse him and they probably wouldn't still be working for him if they didn't), but it's also because Trump had way above average turnover for cabinet officials, 19 in the first four years not including the 5 who resigned due to his handling of the 2020 election results (not included because Biden hasn't reached that point in his first term yet), while Biden has had far below average turnover, only 3 so far.

So a lot more people shuffling in and out of the Trump administration, but we also notice a ton more H's than E's there. Heck, there's almost as many R's among Trump's people as there are E's (5 to 7). Meanwhile, Biden's shooting 2 for 3 and the third one hasn't (at least not that I could find) ruled out endorsing him.

Keep in mind, endorsing the nominee of your party is pretty much the bare minimum that any party operative needs to do. Imagine if you applied for a job somewhere, the first question was "do you think this company should be in business", and you answered "no". You probably wouldn't be getting a job there. In other words, refusing to endorse has some big consequences for the people doing it, not just costing them a job in the potential next Republican presidency, but locking them out of the party entirely, and yet a good deal of the people who worked for Trump disliked working with him so much that they're doing it anyways.

As I said, this tends to fly below the radar because it's kind of a formulaic ritual; of course members of the President's party who are closely tied to him are going to endorse him for re-election! That's why you should pay attention now that most of the people who've worked with Trump aren't doing so. It says something, something big.

where to begin with this one? i have a whole pinterest board but that’s a story for another day. maya alatorre’s brother santiago just beame the secondary driver for bandini and she’s joining the team on the road for race season, where she meets ( and ultimatley falls in love with ) noah slade, formula one’s resident golden boy and legacy driver with daddy issues. featuring enemies to lovers, brother’s rival and secret romance.

collided - lauren asher ( dirty air #2 )*

rating: 4.5 stars

set in the same world as throttled, collided follws sophie mitchell, daughter of bandini team principal james mitchell as she spends the summer on the road with the team, and finds her way into the arms of german mccoy driver liam zander ( who is literally the PERFECT man, like he hits every single point on my trifecta: he’s german, he drives a formula one car and he reads books ). liam is mccoy’s resident bad boy, and his pr team has him on a dating ban after he sleeps with the team principals niece. sophie has a naughty ( vvv spicy ) bucket list, and liam offers to help her out, falling hopelesley in love along the way.

thunderstruck - roxanne st.clair ( harlequin nascar )

rating: 3.5 stars

shelby jackson is the co-owner of the last family owner team in the nascar nextel cup series. sadly, thunder racing is in a terrible financial position and they haven't won anything in years. something that british soccer player mick churchill wants to change when he offers to by the other half of the team. shelby is unimpressed, and keeps trying to push mick out of the business, ultimately falling in love with him in the process. shelby is a girlboss, who commands attention everywhere she goes. mick is a dumbass, match made in heaven. the cover on this one SUCKS but the book is pretty good for being written in 2007, however it lacks any sexy time scenes, as the scenes always cut before there is any real smut.

flash and bones - kathy reiches ( temperance brennan / bones #14 )

rating: 4.5 stars

a dead body is found in an oil drum in the waste processing facility behind the charlotte motor speedway ahead of nascar race week. forensic anthropologist temperance brennan lands the case, and begins looking into the disappearance of a seventeen year old girl and her older boyfriend twelve years prior at the behest of a nascar mechanic related to one of the missing. from there, it’s a rich mystery and vast conspiracy involving militia groups, the fbi, biotoxins and car racing. listen, i was already in love with detective andrew ryan from the other temperance brennan books, but to find out that he is a jacques villeneuve fan, i am swooning.

this book broke me, i'm not even kidding. this book is forced proximity and enemies to lovers between driver jax kingston and elena gonzalez, his media rep. they both have torubled pasts, and i f i could just warp them both in bubble wrap and protect then from the rowld, i would. jax is dangerously self-destructive, and elena has a hard time letting people in, but once they break down their walls (and god does it take a while) they are truly made for each other.

yes i cried like a baby, no i will not elaborate.

taming zach - amy sparling ( team loco #1 )

rating: 3 stars even.

cute, wholesome but predicatable and a little lame. this book follows motocross racer zach pena who has lost his focus on the sport and this also lost his place at the summer classic. as he risks getting cut from the team, he heads back home to hopewell, where he falls in love with bree grayson, the daughter of the groundskeeper ath hopewell motocross park. it's calssic good girl-bad boy shit, and it's been done many times before. although it can get steamy, there's no smut.

currently undecided if im actually going to finish the series.

redeemed - lauren asher ( dirty air #4 )*

rating: 5 stars

santaigo motherfucking alatorre. santaigo is recovering from a crash at silverstone three years ago that resulted in the loss of his right leg. since the crash, he's sequestered himself inside his mansion on lake como and hidden himself away from the world. chole carter never knew who her father was. after her roomate buys her a drugstore dna kit, she finally has her father's identity and finds herself on a trip to lake como to find him.

what i really liked about this one was that as they fell in love with each other, they also learned how to love themselves more in the process.

the final ranking order i have for the dirty air series (and men) is as follows: 1. Redeemed (Santi), 2. Wrecked (Jax), 3. Collided (Liam), 4. Throttled (Noah).

HP NEW GEN Parental Masterlist

Sooooo, I’m beginning to realize seeing the same style headcanons constantly might get a bit boring for some after a while, so I’ve decided to branch out and provide you with something new and exciting (although I will still be posting those headcanons).

When reading the headcanons about my OCs, some of you may wonder who these kid’s parents are. While I give context in the posts themselves, I thought it would be a fun idea to create a masterlist of who’s the child of who, just so I can say this blog has some variety to it.

This list will only include the parents of my OCs, as everyone already knows who the canon character’s parents are anyway. Also, the pairings on this list are - for the most part - very random. In addition, I’ve made the executive decision to cross this universe over with that of Roald Dahl’s “Matilda” because there’s no way she would not have gone to Hogwarts with the Potter-Gen crew. The Pull of Autumn - Outlaw Empire - featuring Mark Stewart, Adrian Sherwood, & Doug Wimbish (!)

Art rock collective The Pull of Autumn presents their new single 'Outlaw Empire' featuring Mark Stewart, founding member of the legendary UK band The Pop Group, and remixed by the esteemed Adrian Sherwood. The first taste of the band's fourth album 'Beautiful Broken World', The Pull of Autumn mastermind Daniel Darrow incorporates elements of granular glitch synthesis to the track, the end result being a daring mixture of dub, jazz, spoken word and electronic music.

Long wishing to collaborate with Mark Stewart, the opportunity finally arose for Darrow thanks to Scott Crow of Emergency Heart Records, through which both Darrow and Stewart have released music. Fortunately Stewart, known for his experimental postpunk-jazz explorations and his production and remixes for such artists as The Fall, The Slits and Nine Inch Nails, thought it was a great idea.

Also featuring bassist Doug Wimbish (Living Colour, Tackhead and sessional musician for The Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Depeche Mode, Sugarhill Gang and James Brown), this track was given the golden remix treatment by the legendary Adrian Sherwood, English record producer and owner of the famed On-U-Sound Records, the first label to experiment with early dub reggae music using echo, reverb and delay techniques. Mixing dub with other forms of electronic music, Sherwood has created remixes for Depeche Mode, Primal Scream, Skinny Puppy and Sinead O' Connor.

'Beautiful Broken World' is an ambitious 15-track undertaking that began in early 2020 and involves a number of iconic artists. They include Philip Parfitt of The Perfect Disaster, Stuart Moxham of Rough Trade postpunk band Young Marble Giants, Luke Skyscraper James of I.R.S. recording artist FASHION and John Neff, who has contributed to multiple David Lynch films and is also a member of David Lynch’s Blubob.

Review "Poor Things"

I saw "Poor Things" directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. It stars Emma Stone, William Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Mark Ruffalo and more. I definitely was entertained by this film. I thought the scenes were gorgeous and the cinematography marvelous and interesting. The acting was very good and Emma Stone as Bella Baxter was really wonderful. There were definite steam punk scenes that were lovely and interesting. The film was often macabre but certainly, particularly in the latter half of the film, quite sexual. IMDb's brief synopsis is "The incredible tale about the fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter, a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter. " Actually the young woman's body is brought back to life but the brain which replaces the original woman's brain is that of her baby, still in the woman when the woman commited suicide. William Dafoe's character, Dr. Godwin Baxter , is also quite entertaining with his scarred and stitched back together face and the stories of his very odd father's experimentation on him in his youth is also quite, um, interesting. I also was entertained by the numerous animals which he had obviously put together from various animals. I do not believe this film is for everyone. As noted above, there are many explicit sexual scenes with Emma Stone and numerous male and female partners.as well as her own private experimentation. There are some scenes, again in the latter half of the film, where the pacing is slower, sometimes being perfectly acceptable and reasonable, but a few times just a tad slower than I appreciated. It certainly is a quirky film. Most reviewers give it high marks but there are some, such as the one by Mick LaSalle in today's San Francisco Chronicle which were definitely less appreciative of the film. There was an earlier review by Lindsey Bahr, also in the SF Chron, which definitely seemed to praise it and many aspects of it, "This story exists in a Victorian dream/nightmare, a vision so stuffed with fantasy it reminded me of “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.” But it is undoubtedly among the year’s most sumptuous visual delights with production design by James Price and Shona Heath, and costumes by Holly Waddington. Lanthimos and cinematographer Robbie Ryan again employ the fisheye lens that they used in “The Favourite.” It’s extra, but at least it makes more sense in this purposely disorienting world." I found it interesting that Mick LaSalle, a male, said "But no, sorry, the problem isn’t that Emma Stone is nude in the movie; the problem is the movie that Stone chose to be nude in. No amount of gaslighting by the director can distract us from his utterly bogus vision of female empowerment." Whereas Lindsey Bahr, a female reviewer, found it "uplifting". Hmm . . . .

It wasn't a perfect film but I laughed many times during this film and definitely plan to buy the physical media when it comes out and will watch it again.

I saw the film at the Alamo Drafthouse in San Francisco. I had been wanting to see a film there and finally did so last night. I like this venue. They have a table in front of all the seats, at least that I saw. Usually the table is for two side-by-side seats. They have a fairly extensive food and drink menu. I had chips and queso dip, a margarita, and the Hellfire Burger with a Beyond Meat burger substitution. It wasn't spicy. It wasn't hot. Relative to what I had I found it overpriced and not that great. Nevertheless I do plan to go back and try other things on their menu. The seat was comfortable although I purchased a ticket rather late and wound up sitting closer to the screen than I like but it was okay. Lots of leg room.

Today, ABC Audio announced three different specials for the Labor Day holiday. Programming includes two music specials — a rock music special focused on rock stars’ pre-fame jobs and a country music special celebrating back-to-school events — as well as a special highlighting the impact of artificial intelligence and new technological advancements.
