thinking about the way ghost doesn't hesitate to start killing shadows when graves betrays them but soap only takes one hostage
you can almost hear the voice in his head telling him it doesn't have to be this way; they can still talk it out
"i'm calling shepherd"
his first instinct when confronted with betrayal is to play it by the books: to go up the chain. that goes against everything we've seen him do. he bucks authority at every chance except for the one time he's confronted with the barrels of his allies' guns
he wants a peaceful resolution; for the first time we've ever seen, he doesn't want violence to be the answer. there has to be another fix, a solution that doesn't end with him killing the same men he's been working with; his friends
nothing's happened yet
it doesn't have to go this way
but ghost has been betrayed before. he knows the way this ends; either with him six feet under or his enemy
he doesn't hesitate
it's only when they knock alejandro out that soap shoots; when they spill the first blood and cross a line they can never come back from
only when ghost orders him to run and he has to cover his retreat
and somewhere along the line, between civilians’ screams and taunting voices, between his shaking breath and ghost steady in his ear, that naivety is stripped away; his trust turned to teeth that he uses to sink into throats of men he'd have given his life for
"be careful who you trust, sergeant; people you know can hurt you the most"
he's learned the price of trust
just like ghost did
but unlike ghost, he has someone to guide him through the aftermath
"good advice, It"

Also I’m pretty sure someone has said this before but when you first start the alone mission and Soap is changing through channels of his radio you hear a shadow say “we need reinforcements in the North Plaza now!” just a little bit before Ghost answers Soap, showing where he was in relation to Soap.
It a fun detail, especially considering that soap had a head start in running towards Las Almas over Ghost, meaning Ghost is super fast and that Soap was lagging behind because of his wound.
It also shows how skilled Ghost is on his own. You need reinforcement because of one man? Just one?
Yeah, I’d be pretty terrified too.

I know it was painfully obvious that John getting shot fucked up Sherlock pretty bad in that moment, like the man snapped. And understandably so, I mean he thought his best friend was just shot dead. (Not to mention that if I’m not mistaken this is the first time we’ve heard Sherlock refer to John as his best friend out loud but that is another piece of emotional baggage for another day) But what about after the whole thing?
John is ok he’s not in any danger and Sherlock knows this but do you think he wakes up in a cold sweat some nights because he dreamt that maybe John wasn’t wearing the vest. That his best friend really was taken from him just like that.
I feel like it would become a thing for him that he constantly needs to reassure himself that John is indeed, in fact, alive and well and still here. Maybe when he has those nightmares of John dying he gets up and goes to his room to make sure John is still breathing, or if John is sitting on true couch Sherlock will come over and just sit and put his ear against John’s heart to hear his heart beating, or if he’ll just randomly grab John’s wrist to check his pulse at times. Because even though he can clearly see John belong alive and well, he needs to feel that he’s alive too.
Idk I can’t stop thinking about how drastically his whole demeanor switched in that instant and I just can’t help but think it definetly stuck with him even after the fact.

One of the many things I find funny and irritating is the slant of a lot of interpretations of Alecto's name (that it's about feminine rage)--on this here wlw internet in the year of our lord 2024, it's easily made to figure as rage against God, or rage against patriarchy, or religious oppression, and therefore an allusion to the idea that she's going to get her vengeance on John for betraying and oppressing her somehow, but like
John is the one who named her Alecto. He's the one who named her that. So, naming her "Alecto" is alluding to the embodiment of John's rage--their rage, since they are joined inseparably (John even explicitly says that when he first perceives her: "You wouldn't stop screaming. You were so scared. You were so goddamn mad").
He says of Alecto to Harrow, "In a very real way, you are [Alecto's] children". At a very surface level, Alecto is (depending on the text or tradition), one of the Furies--famously, in several surviving Greek tragedies, who punish Orestes for the crime of killing his mother. In fact, in Aeschylus' Oresteia, they declare that they are specifically bound to avenge matricide.
So the name "Alecto" alludes to the nature of John's mission and how he sees it.
It also implies that his divine rage, the rage that gives him power, the power that makes him divine, that he either represents or wants to represent, is feminine rage. He was chosen by Earth (which, Furies are sometimes the daughters of Gaia); he is her champion, however he's managed to fuck that up. Once the truth of that comes out, it becomes clear that all of his power comes from her.
And that's why you get statements from Tamsyn Muir like:
“[T]he God of the Locked Tomb IS a man; he IS the Father and the Teacher; it’s an inherently masc role played by someone who has an uneasy relationship himself to playing a Biblical patriarch. John falls back on hierarchies and roles because they’re familiar even when he’s struggling not to. Even he identifies himself as the God who became man and the man who became God. But the divine in the Locked Tomb is essentially feminine on multiple axes – I think Nona will illuminate that a little bit more."
So yes, he plays the role of Emperor and God and Teacher, with all of the things that implies. And I don't think it should be discounted. But he also is (and partly sees himself as) the chosen champion of a goddess, or what is for all intents & purposes for a human like him a goddess. He is her avenger, and while she sleeps, her avatar.
And I don't think we're meant to read him purely as a parasite who's taking advantage of her to gain power for himself, either. Or an oppressive, Kronos-like figure. Especially if you consider Palamedes' theory of the Grand Lysis, even if he was purely motivated by desire for power before (which I really doubt), there are parts of each in the other, now. What was clear and separate before is uncertain and interpenetrated. Is his rage his own, or hers? Is his mission of revenge his, or hers? If he wants power, is that his own selfishness, or her desire to survive?
And does it matter?

Gaz & Soap, joking that Price kidnapped them for the 141 Task Force :
Price : I didn't kidnap Soap. I went to all the right channels, I asked all his superiors, he's legally mine.
Soap : Will you tell me about my birth superiors one day, dad?
Price : You're a child.
Soap : Well yeah, that's the point of this whole joke, captain
Price : Anyway, as I was saying, I didn't kidnap Soap, but I sure did kidnap Gaz. In the middle of his investigation. To take him straight to Urzikstan. Got some choice words from the SAS for that one. But to be fair, I did text someone I knew that I was taking him so it's not like they didn't know.
Gaz : Damn. That's like my origin story. Maybe one day I'll see my family again.
Price : I don't like when you're both annoying at the same time.
Gaz : To be fair you already had me and you decided on your own to take Soap as well, you knew you'd never know peace again, sir.
Soap : What about Ghost, did you kidnap him as well?
Price :.... Well to be honest I have genuinely no idea. I asked him if he wanted in, he said yes, and then he was here. I haven't asked anyone else but no one complained so...
Ghost : Because if they complain then they have to admit that they know I'm not dead and they're keeping me on the field despite my very obvious ptsd. They don't want that kind of news to get out.
Price : Yeah.
Ghost : Soooo... Am I your son too, then, is that how that works?
Price : Oh my god Simon please not you too.
Ghost : =)

amab reader x bot!soap
Insisting that rottweiler!hybrid!Soap should wear a collar; nagging Price, saying it's for his safety, making sure he won't get lost or injured so much on the field. And eventually he'll sigh and agree, giving you the key to the K-9 equipment cupboard, and calling the Sergeant over to find one that fits him well. Soap disapproves at first too, eyeing the selection of collars then glaring at you. He refuses to go anywhere near the camo-coloured handled collars, and Price just laughs, bragging that he told you so.
Until you find one in an actual pet shop on leave. You were there to pick up some food for a friend's cat since you were in town anyway, and a black, leather collar caught your eye. Checking it was an adjustable size, you quickly bought it and a matching lead, careful to pack them away safely to return to base. The rest of your time off you spend buzzing around with excitement, checking on the collar and lead set every so often and imagining how good he'll look in it. You'd have to introduce it to him delicately, of course; although you knew that before long he'd sacrifice his pride and wear it.
When you did arrive back to work again, the first thing you did was rush to find your sweet boyfriend, whose tail wagged frantically upon seeing you. His eyes narrowed when you pulled out the collar, but was surprisingly quick in letting you put it on him, taking your time to make sure it fit right, and telling him how handsome he looked after.
Of course you have to parade him over to Price's office to show the collar and lead set off, smugly grinning at your Captain when the Sergeant admits that "it's not too shite".
And of course later in Soap's bedroom, he's laying on his back as you fuck him with all the energy you'd saved up being away from him on leave, short lead held in your mouth, frantic eyes studying his face as he whimpers and paws at your chest.
