#Julieta is CALM scary
Can we get Julieta angry? Like. REAL angry?
Oh yes. Yes you can :)
"Luisa just walked in, right?"
Julieta was a hard working woman. Cooking from day till night, washing clothes, cleaning the kitchen and the hallways. All while keeping up with the family's schedule. It was why she was surprised when her daughter Luisa came back home from her usual duties, far earlier than she was supposed to, she was suspicious. Even more so when she didn't even say hello, but went straight to her room. She wasn't crying, didn't look upset or anything. But something was amiss. Dolores poked her head into the kitchen, and Julieta already knew she knew.
"Si. What's bothering her?"
"Well, I was going to tell Agustín, but I think you can handle it better. She was out in town, doing her chores, and a couple of hombres were catcalling her. But when she ignored them, they called her 'a donkey faced man'. She's in her room crying right now."
People could be just so rude, she couldn't understand. She sighed, and cleaned her hands.
"Gracias, mija. I think I know exactly what she needs. Do me a favor- go get Agustín Y las niñas. I think we should all get some ice cream, forget about all of this."
"Si, tìa."
Julieta waited till Dolores left, before she knocked on Luisa's door.
"Mija? Can I come in? I want to talk."
"...okay."
Julieta walked inside, and sat by her bed. Her poor girl, looked so upset. She rubbed her arm carefully, trying to provide some comfort to her little girl.
"Dolores told me what happened. And I'm sorry. There are bad people out there. You didn't deserve that."
"...I wished I looked like you, mom. You're pretty and small and I see how men look at you. I'm just...a kink to people. It's always 'oh I bet she could crush my head like a watermelon' or 'she looks like she could beat my ass and I'd let her'. I wanna be treated like a lady, like how dad treats you."
Oh such words were like daggers to a mother. She sighed, and leaned down to kiss her forehead.
"Mija, you are a beautiful little lady. Someone will see you for that, and they will be as kind and as romantic as Agustín. Now, why don't we forget about them, and go get some ice cream? You can get whatever you want."
"I don't wanna."
"Your sisters will be going, and your prima and primos, and your papi. We'd be sad if you didn't go."
Luisa couldn't resist family time. She got up, begrudgingly, and followed her as they all walked to town. Agustín, ever the doting father, whispered to her as they walked, clearly knowing something was amiss.
"What's wrong? Did something happen?"
"Nothing that we can't fix. Don't worry, she just needs a minute."
They made their way to the square, avoiding the hustle and bustle of people to make it to Osvaldo's new ice cream shop. She snuck a glance behind her, and it melted her heart, watching her sisters and her cousins worry so much over her. Such good children they raised. She was about to step up to the counter when Dolores crept up next to her.
"Tìa. That's them."
Julieta looked to the table a bit away. Three boys, handsome, if a bit unkempt. Oh their poor mothers.
"Are you sure?"
"Positive. The blonde one. I recognize his little snort."
Julieta walked up to the table, and cleared her throat to get their attention.
"Buenos días. I hate to bother you boys. But you've met my daughter, right over there. You hurt her feelings. And I'd appreciate an apology for her."
The blonde one stood up, and loomed over her. Tall boy.
"You gonna make me, milfs r us?"
Agustín immediately tried to step up, but she motioned him still.
"No no, mi vida. This requires a lady's touch."
The boy tried to lean down to her face, and upon feeling just the slight contact, she correct him. Afterall, a man shouldn't touch without permission. If anything, she was doing him a favor. She grabbed his ear, and threw him, right into the table.
"DUDE WHAT THE SHIT-"
One of the boys yelled as their friend laid amongst the remains of the table. He tried to get up, but she grabbed his hand, and put her foot right onto his head, keeping him amongst the dirt and wood.
"Now. I'm going to give you two options. Option one. You apologize to my sweet little angel. Option two. I cut off your penis with a rusty fork. Then, when I finally cut it off all the way, I'll bread it, pan fry it, and serve it to you. I'll give it to you in small bites though, so you don't choke, pobrecito. And of course, you'd have to savor it as well, really taste it. Now, which do you want?"
"Apology apology apology!!"
"Oh bien, bien!"
She reached down to grab at his head, to look at her very surprised daughter. He swallowed, before doing as he said he would.
"I'm sorry! So sorry! I was being dumb! Dude call off your lady-"
"Tell her she's beautiful."
"You're beautiful! So beautiful! Right guys?"
The boys behind her held their hands up, and nodded quickly. Julieta smiled.
"Isn't that sweet? Luisa? Do you forgive them?"
"Y-yes! Totally forgive them! You can let go, mom!"
"Isn't that sweet? You know, I always felt like an apology wasn't really an apology unless you were forgiven. How lucky I am, to have such a kind daughter. Don't you agree?"
She twisted his arm, making him cry out in pain, before quickly nodding. She helped him to his feet, and adjusted his shirt for him.
"Now hold on, you look messy. Let me fix your shirt, your hair...oh, little blood, hold on."
She licked her thumb, and wiped the blood off his nose.
"There! Now, let me tell you something. Motherly advice. If you pull any of this nonsense on any of my family, I will know. And I will look for you, no matter where you hide. And I will find you. You do not want me to find you. Understand?"
"Y-yes, señora."
"Good! Now, run off, go play with your friends!"
Fast runners, those three. She sighed at the mess, dusting off her hands.
"Osvaldo? So sorry about the table! You know how boys are!"
"It's n-no problem! It was uh. A dumb table."
She patted her hair a bit, looking at Agustín.
"Did I get my hair messy? It feels messy-"
"You should do that to me."
"Hmm?"
"I said let's get some ice cream!"
She clapped a bit before gesturing for Luisa to go on.
"Go ahead mija, whatever you want!"
Her daughter was so strong, taking today in stride. She swore, she took after her father.

Autistic Bruno headcanons/fic ideas go!
-gvr 💚
I dunno how fresh these are, but here I go:
Rubbing fabrics is one of his most common stims, but there are some others not seen in the movie. I don't remember who it was, but months ago someone said that they wanted to HC him flapping but felt bad because the way the fandom was... it's in the ol book of HC's now. you deserve flappy Bruno homie.
Sand is very texture™.
When he was a kid, Bruno spent long periods of time looking at the sand in hourglasses fall.
Being the gifted kid of the family allowed a lot of his quirks to get overlooked for a while. By the time he hit burnout, he was seen as a burden. this could probably be a general HC, but it was very much a double edged sword for him.
He advocated for Dolores at loud parties, and postcanon, the two will go to her room to enjoy a quiet activity.
His "Special rat" he mentions in OBB is his support rat that acts as not only a companion, but a comfort. He pets it and also trained it to lick his face and calm him down.
I've mentioned the HC of involuntary visions sometimes vetting tied to meltdowns. The swirlimg sand has unintentionally hurt people before, and out of context, a random villager probably would see it as scary.
This one is common I think, but Mirabel making Bruno textured a scarf, plush, etc? yes, she does that.
She is also one of the first people that really sat and listened to him to that extent. Second most would be Julieta, who was in general the nurturing big sister, though she took care of everyone. That line about holding him in the book until it relaxed and being ok with him not talkong until he felt comfortable is canon in my heart. She knew a lot what to do because of how gentle she is with Antonio and when it comes to emotional care, post canon especially she goes out of her way to make sure everyone, including him is okay.
Luisa gives some awesome pressure hugs, though she has to watch her strength, of course. Bruno can just give her a look and she knows.
If you let him talk about his rats or shows, he will be your best friend. It's not something that everyone necessarily understood, but post canon everyone, especially his family enjoy his shows and his enthusiasm. Something he loves just as much though is the actual process of making things. He can get into a full on trance making his art and sets.
Bruno being afraid of fireworks for the angst. :( It's another reason for him to get Dolores in her soundproof room though.
Julieta knows how his body reacts when he is happy, and is the most thrilled to see that as he is getting better emotionally.
The first time that they all ate together as a family again was chaotic and it was a learning experience. It took some tweaking and sometimes he will eat alone, but generally family meals are good now. :)
The silver lining to his gift is being able to have predictability in his life. He still isn't fond of when the future sneaks up on him or things don't go to plan like in the game where he freaks out and mirabel has to calm him down
He hides in tight corners and small spaces, and his new room has a little hiding spot. The family knows about it and the other spaces he has in the house but respect that
He hits himself and hair pulls when he's in a bad space mentally.
As he got older, a lot of his quirks were misumderstood by the villager and even his mother as him being moody or Noncompliant. Post-canon, she starts to listen to him more and gets to have a caring motherly role more often. She tries to check up on him and make sure that his limits aren't being puahed and that she isn't subconvipusly trying to make him someone else.
He asked Julieta to "fix" him at least once when he was older and frustrated with how sour everything had gone. He's a lot happier with himself, though.
These probably aren't the freshest ideas, but I might add more to the future. Anon, I would love to hear any of your ideas if you have them, as well as other people. Feel free to add in reblogs, comments, asks, or whatever you can think of

Pepa with insomnia? And how it affects Felix?
I'm back! I know I took a bit of a break from writing, but I'm back to doing prompts. This was a really fascinating idea; I loved delving into how her anxiety spills into insomnia. It's more of a character study, but I really enjoyed writing it. Thanks for the prompt, and I hope you like it!
It was happening again. The dreams. One minute she was sound asleep, the next she was bolting upright, chest heaving from her jagged breaths. There would be no getting back to sleep. She swung her legs over the edge of the mattress, planting her feet on the ground.
He must have sensed the shift in the mattress; the way it dipped lower before rising abruptly. A hand reached out towards her. “Can’t sleep again?” He murmured sleepily.
“No,” she answered quietly. Her hand closed over his, giving it a quick squeeze. “Lo siento, mi amor.”
And sorry she was, she reflected; standing up and turning to face her still sleeping husband, whose body sprawled over half the bed, yet did not encroach on the space meant to be hers. Space that was rapidly cooling, leaving the hand resting there touching cold sheets.
She was familiar with the phenomenon, of course, having experienced it on the other side of sunrise. When her racing mind would finally run out of fuel and allow her to rest, she would collapse into bed. If she was lucky, her sleep would overlap somewhat with Félix’s. Usually, she would fall asleep just as he was rising. And then it was her turn to touch cold sheets.
Of course, they were never quite as cold in the morning as they were in the middle of the night when she would rouse.
Everything was worse at night. The darkness thick, enveloping her like an inky fog. The cacophony of jungle sounds all the more jarring without the noises of people going about their day to camouflage it. The thoughts in her head free to take over, unencumbered by the endless list of errands she would undertake during the day to stave them off.
Thoughts that were currently rendering her unable to sleep next to her husband, the way she should be. That caused her to wake up, trying to smooth out the deep shuddering breaths and calm her pounding heart. That hung the cloud over her head whose smothering presence she could feel more than see.
When her mind raced like this, she felt like a windup toy that someone had wound until the key jammed and then stuck in a box; rattling restlessly, unable to rid itself of the pent-up energy inside. Fortunately, though her mind felt trapped, her body was entirely free to move. So move she would.
Crossing to the other side of the bed, she pressed a gentle kiss to Félix’s cheek, whispering another contrite apology. They both knew that her sleepless nights rolled into miserable mornings, when she would show up for breakfast too late, gulping down scalding hot coffee just to keep herself awake through the meal. The coffee made her heart race, and she didn’t love the bitterness, but she’d learned to accept drinking it black.
She’d learned to accept a lot of darkness in her life.
Like how when she was a young girl, she saw things lurking in the shadows that danced on the walls. Things that her mamá insisted firmly were just a figment of her imagination, sometimes accompanied by a touch of exasperation. At a certain point, the idea that Pepa was too old for such nonsense got peppered in. Pepa had never wanted to make her mamá mad, and she knew how hard she worked all day to keep the encanto running smoothly. After a while, she stopped bothering her mamá with her nighttime torment. But she kept seeing them.
Things that Bruno told her were all manner of scary monsters, waiting to snatch her up. The wider her eyes grew in terror, the more he kept embellishing his stories, lips spreading in an indulgent grin until he would break down in laughter and say he was only kidding.
After Julieta realized this was happening, she scolded him sternly, telling him to knock it off. She tried to reassure Pepa, that the shadows were merely objects around the room leaving their grotesquely stretched imprint on the walls. It wasn’t a bogeyman, just a table and lamp casting an unfortunately distorted shadow.
When they turned 5, their casita had given them magical gifts. Bruno had gotten the gift of prophecy. His stories, though they had gotten rarer, were all the more terrifying now, especially when he made his eyes glow green while he was talking.
Julieta had gotten the gift of healing. Pepa had lost count of how many times she had begged her for an arepa or pandebono or something to heal her from the horrors inside her head. Even though Julieta always obliged her with whatever food she had on hand, it never helped.
Pepa got the gift of affecting the weather with her mood. It was small things at first, like a light drizzle when she was upset, or a few extra rays of sunshine when she was happy. But as she grew, her power did too, and soon, her stormy moods became literal.
Although Casita had provided them with their own magical rooms once they received their gifts, the triplets preferred to keep sharing. They had grown used to having each other around as they slept. Pepa especially craved the closeness, clinging to Julieta fiercely, as if her sister could protect her from the threatening shapes.
Eventually, they got too old to keep sharing and relented to sleep in their own rooms. But Pepa snuck in to see Julieta and Bruno more often than not. Mostly Julieta, but she also liked her brother more at night now that he wasn’t exacerbating her fears. Sometimes she would just curl up into Julieta and cry as sleeplessness took over her young self, relishing the comfort her sister would offer in return. But then the next morning, she would see Julieta with bags under her eyes, and her mother’s words would ring in her ears.
Pepa had to learn how to get through nights by herself.
The way she was doing now, she mused, wandering aimlessly through the hallways. Bright moonlight bathed the floors where it shone in through the windows. She climbed down the stairs gingerly, careful not to wake anyone else. Old wooden floors creaked under her feet, and she did her best to keep her footsteps light. The steps cast a strange shadow on the floor, a violent zigzag stretched so far that if it were a physical object, it would have snapped. But she didn’t fear shadows anymore.
Life had gotten a bit easier once she realized that the shadows weren’t figures lurking there just to scare her. It coincided with the triplets going off to school. Being around other kids, she learned very quickly what was normal and what wasn’t. Shadows, even weird ones, were normal.
Her gift, on the other hand, was not. Most of the time, she could keep it in check. Control it, even. Every time she made it rain on the crops, or sunny to dry clothes, people were always grateful to her and her Madrigal gift. But when her emotions overwhelmed her, when she felt the tears flooding her eyes… well… sometimes she actually flooded. Lord knows the floor of her classroom wasn’t in need of rain. Yet rain she did after failing her first test. And the courtyard didn’t need an ugly gash running through it, but she couldn’t control the bolt of lightning that crashed down next to her. In her defense, those boys shouldn’t have been trying to touch her.
Of course, the piéce de résistance of her long list of weather-related disasters was the hurricane she caused on her wedding day. Okay, it wasn’t exactly her fault. Bruno had provoked her. Again. It was his fault she caused a hurricane.
The shadows that haunted her morphed from literal to figurative. Her dreams were no longer filled with shadowy figures waiting to ambush her. Now they featured her schoolmates, laughing at her for crying so hard she ruined her notebook. Calling her names behind her back, many of which her mamá would have washed her mouth out with soap for repeating. Mocking her mercilessly for anything and everything they could think of, from her hair to, later on, how friendly she was with boys. Mostly from boys she wasn’t so friendly with.
She would always wake suddenly, panting hard, with a shadowy cloud overhead. Her heart would pound like a drum and her hands felt clammy and cold, like they did when she’d get sick all the time before Julieta got her gift. Sleep was impossible, so she’d toss and turn futilely until the sun rose above the horizon, heralded by the rooster.
Until she realized that, if she was already unable to sleep, there was no point staying in bed. After that, she would get up and wander around until she tired herself out enough to sleep again. People would comment on her tiredness, and she’d always make up some lame excuse. They’d also comment on how quietly she walked, and how often she’d startle them. It was an ability born of involuntary practice.
When she got older, she started leaving the house; sneaking out silently to meander around town. Seeing her animal friends always helped her feel a little better, especially the dogs, to whom she’d give an affectionate pat on the head. There were a few spots she liked to visit when the worries got too loud, but her favorite was the river.
Her mother didn’t like her going near the river, always cautioning her against it. Pepa supposed she thought it was too dangerous, that Pepa would fall in and get swept away by the current, never to be seen again, or God forbid, drown. This supposition was never brought up to her mother.
However, Pepa was careful not to fall in (and unbeknownst to her mother, a strong swimmer as well). She’d sit by the bank, bringing her knees to her chest and wrapping her arms around them as she stared into the gleaming blackness of the river, broken up by starlight skittering across the surface. What she really loved about the river was that it was loud. Loud enough to drown out the roaring thoughts inside her head.
This was where she was headed now. She knew Félix would be worried if he woke up yet again to find her half of the bed still empty, so she hoped the thrum of the current would soothe her sooner.
Meeting him had been a godsend. Maybe she was the one that could produce sunlight at will, but he was the real sunshine. Many couples joked about how their spouses were the sun in their lives. In her case, it was actually true.
He’d moved to the encanto when the triplets had turned thirteen. He was a little older, and made his presence known from the get-go. Félix was outgoing, lively, charming, funny... He was able to calm her down when no one else could. She hadn’t even realized she was falling in love with him until one day she saw him holding hands with another girl and got the urge to knock her lights out.
Granted, the other girl would have been all wrong for him. Her friend deserved someone way better. Someone who he enjoyed spending time with, who made him laugh too, who could keep up with his dancing. Someone like…her.
He’d given her a pair of sun earrings after they started officially courting, claiming that when he looked at her, he saw the sun. But he was the real sun. If anything, she was the moon; absorbing brightness from him and reflecting it out into the world. It was a more apt comparison, in her opinion. He was an insufferable morning person, like Julieta. When his enthusiastic effervescence wasn’t getting on her nerves, it gave her the boost she needed to get through those awful morning hours before she fully woke up, even after the coffee kicked in.
And she was a night owl. She liked to stay up late, reading, until his snoring caused her to be unable to focus on what happened with María anymore. Then she’d set her book down and snuggle up next to him, feeling the warmth radiate from his body. At first, she slept a lot better just having him there next to her. But after a while, her night terrors returned once more.
It got worse after Dolores was born. The pregnancy had been so exhausting, she slept clear through the night. But once she was born, Pepa was back to being as twitchy as a mouse. Her dreams changed to accommodate her new fears of being a bad mother, of not caring for her child properly, losing her, hurting her, failing her. Félix, fortunately, was a heavy sleeper, and hardly woke when she did. Pepa would always take care of any nighttime baby business. It just made sense, seeing as she was already awake. Besides, Félix worked so hard…he deserved his rest.
In between caring for her babies, her sleep fluctuated; sometimes better, sometimes worse.
(Except after Bruno disappeared. Then, she would sleep all day and toss and turn all night. But she couldn’t bear to remember that.)
Félix had been wonderful to her throughout all of parenthood. He insisted on taking a more active role with Camilo, hoping that her insomnia stemmed from motherly obligation, and would always give her a kiss and whispered “sleep well”. But it was pointless. Worse, it was affecting him. Where before he would be the first one at the fields, ready to work, now he would lumber in last, stifling yawns the entire time he was there.
Pepa couldn’t stand to see him like this, so they went back to their earlier routine after Antonio’s surprise arrival. For some reason, he’d been easier. Sure, he had all the typical baby nighttime needs, but more often than not, it was his cries that awoke her rather than the twisted voices in her head chanting their litany of all her shortcomings. She guessed that she’d worked through those particular worries by then.
Eventually, her nocturnal turmoil resumed. It had become a sick sort of routine for them: Pepa waking in the middle of the night, Félix sleeping alone, Pepa stumbling into bed exhausted in the early morning just as Félix was getting ready to start his day. They slept alone more often than either of them would have liked, and she knew he missed her as much as she missed him.
Thankfully, it wasn’t happening nearly as often now. Losing her gift was ironically the best gift she could have asked for. Without a physical and destructive manifestation of her emotions, she’d been able to work through things that had been bothering her since she was a child. Even after it returned, she slept a lot better, and as a result, Félix did too.
She passed the church, its steeple distinctive even in the darkness. When she was younger, she used to pray to God to take the fears away. It didn’t seem to help much. Now she prayed for more important things, like the health of her husband and children. They were all doing fine. Perhaps God liked those prayers better.
A cobblestone jutting up made her lose her footing. She rubbed at her bleary eyes, looking up towards the horizon. The sky was still dark, lacking even the faintest tinge of gray, so she guessed not that long had passed. It wasn’t like she could look at the clock to check. Her feet had become uncertain in her weariness. Time for her to return home.
She slipped into the house unnoticed, climbing back into bed as quietly as she could, taking care not to lie on top of Félix’s hand still stretched over the empty expanse of mattress.
As soon as she was under the covers, his arm swung over her hip, pulling her closer to himself subconsciously. He mumbled something unintelligible and smiled in his sleep.
Pepa pressed herself closer into his body. He felt so warm after the chill of the nighttime air. Soon, he would warm her up too, and then they would be sharing each other’s warmth together, asleep in bed at the same time.
The way things were always supposed to be, and the way she hoped they’d stay.

The Madrigal sisters (an inspired Hocus Pocus Encanto fic)
Synopsis: Luisa, Mirabel, Camilo and Antonio décided to reunited in a shed to tell scary stories. Mirabel decided to talk about The Madrigal sister's.
In a village in Salem lived three siblings, called the Madrigal sisters. There was Pepa, considered as the most attractive, Julieta, the leader, and Bruno, the man. Because of these siblings' nickname, most people actually don't know the third one is male. The few who know, Pepa & Julieta always make sure they won't remember. No one had a chance to ask for the reason before they were caught up and burned, centuries ago. One says they had time to throw a spell though, that ensured they'd one day be able to come back.
"O~h! Spooky!" joked Camilo, interrupting Mirabel, who was reading the Madrigal sisters' story.
"Camilo! You're spoiling the mood!" she scowled.
“What? You’d prefer an audience that isn’t reacting at all?”
“I’d prefer an audience that isn’t laughing.”
“Come on Mirabel! It wasn’t scary!”
“Me, I was scared,” intervened Antonio with shyness, going deeper into Luisa’s arms.
“Besides for childr-”
“I was a bit scared too,” admitted Luisa, nervous.
“Well, I wasn’t!” claimed Camilo, offended. “Witches don't exist anyway, they were only women who were burned for any reason people could find. And that story added a man to attract boys. It's ridiculous and incoherent! Why would they be called “sisters” if there is a brother in it?”
In the same tone, Mirabel explained “I said it! They made sure no one knew Bruno was a male.”
“How do we know then?”
“Because when they were caught and burned, people found out.”
“Why would they even hide that? Wouldn’t it be faster to hide that the two sisters were females?”
“Told you we never had a chance to learn their reason.”
“Calm down, you too!” intervened Luisa, who tightened her grip on Antonio in a protective behavior. “It’s not the time to argue.”
The four of them were forming a circle in an abandoned shed, in a forest near the town. They decided to reunite there on Halloween day, far from their surprotective Abuela, to tell scary stories about the town’s legend. Mirabel chose to talk about the Madrigal sisters. Camilo asked her “Why did you even choose that?”
“Because it’s linked to our family.”
“What do you mean, Mirabel?” wondered Antonio with cute round eyes.
“Our ancestor Alma Madrigal is said to be the mother of the Madrigal sisters.”
“Who says that?” asked Camilo with a raised eyebrow in suspicion.
“Our Abuela Rosa.”
“Well...She has the same last name as the witches,” added Luisa. “I guess it’s a pretty obvious guess then.”
“Madrigal is a common name in Colombia, it’s not that surprising.”
“She still said it,” insisted Mirabel.
Looking to change the topic, Luisa asked, “What is that spell they threw?”
Smiling, Mirabel resumed her story. “For them to come back a virgin must light...” She pulled out a black candle from her bag, as she kept talking, “...this candle on Halloween night.”
“How come you have it with you?”
“Abuela Rosa had it in her wardrobe and, when I chose this story, I thought it would add something.”
“Abuela Rosa again?” replied Camilo, surprised. Then, with a mischievous smile. “What if it’s the actual candle to light on Halloween?”
“I thought you didn’t believe in it,” remarked Mirabel.
“So we can light it, right?”
“We don’t have fire.”
“I have!” repllied Camilo as he went out a box of lightmatches.
“...How come you have that?”
“I thought it could be useful,” he shrugged.
Luisa worried, “Be careful not to put the shred on fire.”
“The shred won’t catch fire,” he assured her. Then, grinning at Mirabel, he held her the lightmatches to her, suggesting “Let’s light it!”
She scowled. “No, we won’t light it.”
“Scared it could be the actual candle and you could awaken the sisters?”
“No...But if we light it, Abuela Rosa will see it. And it won’t work, I’m not a virgin.”
He opened wide-eyes in shock as he asked her “You aren’t? Who did you do it with?”
“Doesn’t concern you.”
“Mirabel, you’re like my sister. If someone touched you, I must be sure it’s a good person.”
“We aren’t together anymore anyway. So let’s switch to another story.”
“Someone must light that candle though. At least to be sure it’s not the right one.”
“We won’t light it, Camilo.”
While they kept arguing, Luisa sighed in annoyance, then took the box from Mirabel’s hands, announcing “I’ll do it.”
“Luisa! Don’t!”
“Luisa...You’re a virgin?”
“Yeah...” she replied as she blushed with embarrassment, taking a match out from the box. Then, she struck it and used it to light the candle, assuring them “I’ll take the blame, she won’t go too hard on me.”
“At 22 years old, it’s harsh,” joked Camilo.
Offended, Mirabel scowled, “I forbid you to shame my sister on it!”
“It’s a joke! It’s innocent!”
She was about to answer something, when their argument got interrupted by laughings, that seemed like they came from the candle. As everyone turned to it, frozen, three trails of smoke came out from the flames, which flew toward the backside of the shred. Then, they changed into three middle aged human figures, two women and a man, dressed in curious outfits.
One of the women had gingered hair, green eyes, and was wearing a long pink dress with a low-cut neckline, and purple sides in the low part. The second one had brown eyes, black hair striped of grey, and was wearing a green dress which middle was cut in two but a purple line. On it, she had a kind of green coat with a collar raised to her chin. Her hair was stylised in a bun, while the first woman’s were free. The man’s were tied in a ponytail. He was wearing an orange and brown top with grey pants, and a purple apron. His hair was black and his eyes hazel.
As soon as they appeared, the ginger one exclaimed, visibly relieved, “At last! We have awoken!”
“Seems like someone finally lit that candle again,” appreciated the green-wearing one with a nod.
Then, noticing the man, the gingered cooed as she approached to pinch his cheeks, “Oh! Julieta! Look who is finally here! Seems like it was a success this time!”
“Indeed,” nodded Julieta again, before approaching the two young adults and the only kid, asking “Which one of you lit our candle? I guess it’s not the child, this time.”
“This time?” repeated Camilo, mouth agape. “Do you mean you were actually...”
“Oh! Yes, we have already been awoken...” Turning to her siblings, she completed, “When was it again?”
Glancing at a calendar conveniently put there, the one who they guessed was Pepa answered “I think it was 25 years ago. Then, we lived 7 years before having to sleep again since we couldn’t find a way to wake up Bruno.” Then, to her brother, she cooed again “We couldn’t bear living without you, love.”
Managing to escape his sister’s grip, he remarked, “I didn’t know you had been woken up before.” Then, with a smile, “Did you have fun?”
“A lot of fun! We-” She opened wide her eyes, suddenly remembering something. “Oh! We should go find our children! It was only 25 years ago, they should still be alive.” She grinned as she wondered, “And maybe Félix could find a way to use what I gave him to conceive a third child, like Julieta.”
“Because they each have children,” shrilled Camilo.
Luisa remarked in a low tone, “I thought it was weird those stories about children missing and never being found again that suddenly started 25 years ago to stop as suddenly.”
Mirabel tried, “So...You mean you are the Madrigal sisters?”
“Yes we are”, confirmed Julieta with pride. “The three amazing witches, the Madrigal sisters, at your service!” Then, squinting her eyes to her, she remarked, “You remind me of something though.”
Pepa laughed, “Oh! Doesn’t this one look just like you, Julieta?”
“Child! What is your name?”
With a shiver, Mirabel replied, “Mirabel...Mirabel Rojas...”
“Isn’t it the surname of your lover, Julieta?”
“Yes it is,” she confirmed before taking Mirabel’s cheeks in her hands, forcing her to stand up, to observe her in fascination. “I guess you’re my child.”
Approaching Camilo with joy, Pepa remarked “And this one looks like Félix, I guess it’s our son Camilo.”
Before she could touch him, Camilo ran to hide behind Luisa, shivering, who stood in a protective way, stepping up so she could have her family behind her. “You say you’re our moms?”
“And you’re...”
“Luisa.”
“You’re Luisa???” gasped Pepa, running to her sister, cooing. “You grew up so much! When we left you were only 4!”
Then, sniffing as he approached them too, Bruno confirmed “All of them smell weird...They’re not any children. Probably not very yummy.” His stomach growled, making him whine “I’m hungry.”
Pepa cooed at him again, “Don’t worry our dear Brunito! We’ll soon go hunt some tasty children for you,” before she asked Julieta “What are we going to do with our kids?”
“I’m not sure...” Then, to them “What do you think? Do you want to hunt some children with us?”
They kept silent for a while, before Mirabel dared to explain “We actually don’t eat children.”
“You don’t? What a shame! They’re so good for young witches!”
“But we aren’t witches,” trembled Antonio.
“And Antonio and I are boys,” remarked Camilo. “Aren’t witches supposed to be...Like...Girls...”
“I’m a man and I’m a witch,” replied Bruno. “It’s not a reason.”
“We don’t have any power either,” he argued.
“How old are you all?” asked Julieta.
“Camilo and I are 19,” replied Mirabel.
“I’m 23,” said Luisa.
With his head lowered shyly, clearly not at ease and clutching Mirabel’s clothes, Antonio answered “9 years old.”
Mirabel thought he probably knew he was the most likely to be eaten, and hoped to be protected. She stood ready to oblige, about to use her fighting skills from her boxing class, when the three witches laughed loudly, seemingly amused. Then, Julieta explained as she wiped the tears appearing in her eyes “Of course you don’t have any power then! You’re too young! They appear at 25.”
Doubting it, Mirabel still took out her phone to text her sister Isabela if she possessed any power.”
Her sister answered, “Is our mother awake?”
While she explained to her by text, trying to pin the blame on Camilo, Bruno sniffed their surroundings, before he stopped suddenly to start to drool. “There are children nearby! I can smell them!” Then, he turned to his sisters with pleading eyes. “They seem good! And I’m hungry.”
Rolling her eyeballs, Pepa agreed, “OK we’ll go hunt them. If Julieta agrees.”
“Of course I agree! We don’t want Bruno to starve!”
“You can’t!” tried Mirabel to stop them. “They’re...Not good...”
“Nonsense! They smell good so they probably are!”
Then, taking a broom each, they were about to go out of the shed, and probably fly on it, whilst Antonio hurried to the candle. As soon as he blew on it, the three witches disappeared in smoke with a shriek. Shocked, Camilo asked him “How did you know it would make them disappear?”
He shrugged. “They appeared when we lit it. I guessed blowing on it would make them disappear.”
Checking the book about the sisters she took with her, Mirabel confirmed “That’s...Right! To make them disappear we have to blow out the candle before Halloween is finished. If we do it too late, they’ll stay forever.”
They stood frozen, confused. Then, Luisa suggested “We should talk to Abuela Rosa.”
“I guess so.”
They took their belongings, then went out of the shed to return home.

Nova paced the room, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. She’d been doing this since she’d arrived home from school at 3:15, it was currently about to hit 5pm. She knew her mother would give her a huge telling off once she was home from work.
Carlos sat on her bed, watching her helplessly. He had tried doing everything within his power to calm her down, even using his gift to shift into her just to make her laugh- which usually worked a treat, he loved seeing her laugh. He eyed her, “Look, maybe it won’t be as bad as you think.” Carlos told her for the 50th time in the past hour.
“Carlos, I skipped classes to go to the nurse’s office, I didn’t tell Noemi where I was for the whole duration of that and then I sprinted home just so she wouldn’t have to see my face like this. The school will have notified my parents somehow of my absence, or worse, they’ll give a ‘your child was sent to the nurse's office today’ slip to Noemi to bring home.” She reminded him.
He sighed, running a hand down his face as he ruffled his hair slightly, “I still can’t believe he did that to you.” Carlos groaned.
“I can’t believe you nearly killed him, you could’ve been suspended!” Nova exclaimed, throwing her hands in the air to emphasise the seriousness of what he did.
“It would’ve been worth it.” Carlos shrugged, nonchalantly.
Nova shook her head, a fond smile on her face as she stared at her best friend of eight years. Her eyes soon drifted to glance out of her bedroom window, “they’re back.” She told him.
She glanced over her shoulder, staring at the door, her left eye was covered by her red hair as she waited for her mother to fling the door open.
It didn’t take long. The door was thrown open and in walked her… sister?
“Where were you today, Nova?! I was worried sick!” The smaller girl whispered as she threw her arms around her sister.
Nova took in her scent of sunflowers as she slowly wrapped her arms around her sister's frame, “I’m fine, Noemi. There was just a problem at school, that’s all.” She reassured the brunette as she pulled out of the hug.
“What happened?” Noemi questioned.
“That’s what I’d like to know too.” Nova heard from behind her, she quickly whipped her head around at the voice, her hair flying away from her face momentarily- only realising what had happened when she heard Noemi gasp loudly.
Nova turned to Carlos, giving him a hopeful look. He watched her before nodding and standing up, “Hey, Noemi. I heard Cami say he was gonna be at the flower garden before tía Julieta makes dinner, shall we go and join him?” He asked, placing a hand on the younger girl's shoulder.
“C-camilo? Are you sure?” She asked, hesitantly turning her attention away from Nova. The older girl soon felt a pair of hands on her cheeks, inspecting her face.
“Yeah, he likes to go there to relax and watch the butterflies.” Carlos responded, guiding her out of the room.
He glanced over his shoulder and watched Nova’s face distort in discomfort before he followed Noemi down the stairs and out of the door.
Nova stared at her mother, “who did this to you?” Her mother asked her.
“Just some boy from school. I missed classes because I was in the nurse's office.” She let Sofia know.
“I want a name, Novalee.” Sofia responded, sternly.
Nova gulped, using her full name, she knew her mother wasn’t messing around, “Lukas, Lukas Gonzalez.” Nova sighed, pulling her face from her mother’s grip.
“The farmer’s son?” She asked. Nova nodded. “I’m going down there to have a word, meanwhile, your father will take you to Julieta’s stall so it can heal properly.” She told her, turning on her heel and leaving the room.
Nova stared after her, throwing her head back and letting out a groan before sprinting after her, “Mamá, don’t! You’ll make it worse, plus, Carlos already stuck up for me!” Nova pleaded, staring at her mother.
“Novalee, you are eleven years old and a boy has seriously harmed you with what I can only assume was a knife. I’m not letting this go unpunished.” Sofia told her.
“He hasn’t gone unpunished, Carlos dealt with it!” Nova exclaimed. “Please mami, don’t go there with all guns blazing.” She pleaded, grabbing her mother’s arm gently.
Sofia sighed, staring at her daughter, “okay, fine. Let’s just get you to Julieta’s stall.”
“She won’t be there now, mamá. Plus, I kinda like the thought of the scar.” Nova shrugged, a small smile playing on her lips.
Sofia eyed her daughter, shaking her head before groaning, “Fine, come on, we need to get some ice on that and hope it doesn’t get worse- if it does, you’ll be seeing Julieta immediately.” She let her know as the pair of them began walking back towards their home.
Tumblr media
The pair arrived home and Nova was immediately handed some ice as she sat down on the couch beside her father, “rough day, kiddo?” The older man asked, looking up from his newspaper and seeing his middle child with ice covering half of her face.
“Like you wouldn’t believe.” Nova mumbled, letting a small smile show from behind the ice as she rested her head on her fathers shoulder and began to read the newspaper with him.
Tumblr media
Later that night, the twins lay in their bunk bed. Nova held tightly to a stuffed leopard that her father had bought her for her third birthday, she held the leopard close to her chest as she closed her eyes, trying her hardest to drift off to sleep.
“What happened for Lukas to slice you?” Noemi asked from beneath her.
Nova’s eyes flickered open once more before she opened her mouth to speak, “We were having a fight,” Nova told her sister, “he pulled his penknife out and decided to take a swing at me.” Nova let her know.
“What were you fighting about?” Noemi questioned.
“Uh, he said some shit about Carlos,” Nova shrugged, “I wasn’t gonna stand for it so I threw a punch.”
“You really like him, huh?” Noemi asked, cocking a brow.
Nova sighed, hiding the smile on her face with the leopard even though she knew her sister couldn’t see her, “What about you and Camilo, huh? I saw the way your eyes lit up when Carlos mentioned he’d be at the flower garden.” Nova responded. A soft squeal came from the bunk beneath her, causing a satisfied smile to cross Nova’s face as a soft chuckle left the redhead's mouth.
“I don’t know what it is about him, Nova. He just… he brings me so much happiness and joy. He’s cute and talented and just adorable. I mean, how couldn’t you like him?” Noemi gushed.
Nova rolled her eyes adoringly before a smile settled on her face, “Don’t worry, Noe, I’m sure he feels the same about you. How could he not? You’re adorable.” Nova told the slightly younger girl.
Noemi shook her head, a smile adorning her features as she rolled onto her side, “Goodnight, Nova.” She told the older girl, quickly drifting into a deep sleep.
Nova yawned slightly, “Goodnight.” She whispered as she began tossing and turning, trying her best to find a comfortable position to sleep in.
Tumblr media
“Nova! Novalee!” Nova heard her mamá’s frantic calls of her name.
“Mamá! Papá!” Nova called out, trying her best to stay on the surface of the water.
“Nova! Where are you?!” Her father’s worried voice rang out.
Nova tried to scream out, tried to call out to them but water began to fill her lungs. Panic quickly set in within the young girl as she fought for air, trying her best to make it back to the surface of the river. Her arms flailed frantically, her eyes closing momentarily as she felt her small body hit the riverbed at the bottom.
Tumblr media
Nova awoke in a sweat, throwing her body up into a sitting position as her blankets fell from her body, tears slipped down her face and her breathing was heavy.
She slowly reached out for her stuffed leopard, grabbing it within her clammy palms as she slowly made her way down the ladders of her bed. She stared at her sister momentarily before carefully climbing into the younger girl’s bed, Noemi’s eyes flickered open at the newfound weight on her bed. “Another nightmare?” The brunette asked as she pushed herself up and rubbed at her eyes.
“Mmhmm.” Nova nodded sleepily as she curled up beside her sister.
Noemi immediately wrapped her arms around the slightly older girl and began to comb her fingers through the redhead’s sweat covered hair, “It’s okay, No. Everything’s okay. You’re not at that river anymore, you’re safe. I promise. I’m not gonna let anything like that happen to you ever again.” Noemi spoke the words she had reassured the fear stricken older girl with so many times in her life since the incident.
Nova’s breathing began to calm down as she held onto her sister, as if she may disappear at any time. Noemi let out a soft sigh, kissing the older girl’s forehead as she watched her slowly drift into a more comfortable sleep.
Noemi slowly laid her head on the pillow, letting sleep take over her entire being once again as she held her sister close, making sure the older girl was safe from any and all harm.

[What We Don’t See] Chapter 44: No es lo que Parece
Summary:
Bruno is forced to tell the truth when his nieces come asking questions. -- Written in Bruno's POV.
++++
I’ve just finished applying the last coat of paint on the wall when the door behind me slams open, making me yelp. Before I can gather my bearings, Isabela stomps into the room where I’m working, waving a cactus. “You have some explaining to do, Tío Bruno!” She screeches. “How could you do this to her? HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO TÍA?”
“Wha-what?” I stammer as she glares at me. The sharp plant is terribly close to my face. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Isabela takes a deep breath and tries her hardest not to strangle me. I don't know what I’ve done to make her this angry. Boy, she’s as scary as Julieta. Like mother, like daughter. “Who is that woman you’re seeing?” She accuses.
“Wait, what?”
“We saw you yesterday. You seem all cozy with her by the river.”
Realization hits me. “Did you follow me out?” Oh no. They saw her. Just when she’s starting to become comfortable with me again…
“It doesn’t matter!” Isabela fumes. “Don’t play dumb with me, Tío. How could you move on just like that from Tía Gabriela? Just because we haven’t found her? WHO IS SHE?”
I tilt my head, confused. “Who?” I parrot. Wrong answer. Isabela looks like she’s straight-up ready to murder me.
“Hey, hey, calm down, Isa,” Dolores enters the room with Mirabel following behind her. “I’m pretty sure Tío Bruno has a perfectly good explanation.” She eyes me. “Don’t you, Tío?”
“Dolores...Mirabel...what…what is going on?” I cling to the paint roller for dear life. “...what did you three see?”
“Don’t ask me. I’m just as lost as you are.” Mirabel shrugs. “It was Isabela’s idea to see what you've been up to and Dolores and I just tagged along. I have no idea what the fuss is about.”
Isabela whips her head to stare daggers at her sister. “Oh, please, you were curious as hell. Don’t act so innocent, Mira. Also, I can’t believe you forgot about her!”
“Mirabel was five when she disappeared, Isa. I don’t think she would have that much of a memory.” Dolores placates her prima, takes the flower pot from her hands, and sets it down. “Tío, what were you doing in the mountains yesterday? With the ermitaña?”
“¿Ermitaña?”
“Tío Bruno…” Mirabel blinks. “That’s who we saw you were with yesterday…oh. OH. I get it now. That’s why Isa is freaking out.”
“I’m not freaking OUT!” Isabela’s eye twitches. “How can you explain it? It’s barely one, maybe two months since he’s back, and he’s immediately acting all lovey-dovey with someone he doesn’t even know! Just...where did he even meet her? HOW did he even?”
Dolores heaves a sigh. “That's true. We can't demystify the situation. I can see why anyone would be scratching their heads if they saw something like that. None of us even know where she’s from, or what her name is.”
“¿Disculpe?”
“So you really have no clue, Tío?” Mirabel asks. She decides to offer more, lowering her voice to a conspiratorial whisper when I don’t respond. “Oh, um, you see…Papá told me that a few days after you disappeared, the ermitaña suddenly appeared in the Encanto. No one knows how she arrived here. Growing up, I’ve seen her a few times in town, though she mainly keeps to herself. Honestly, I never questioned it, and in the rare times I've interacted with her, she’s very nice.”
Isabela hisses. “MIRA! You’re not supposed to side with the ermitaña!”
“Why not?”
“There must’ve been some kind of mistake.” My brows furrow together. They're not making any sense. “I…don’t know who is this…ermitaña you’re speaking of…”
“How can you NOT know?” Isabela growls. “We saw you with OUR OWN EYES! Why would you act that way if you don't even know who she is in the first place? I need ANSWERS!”
I accidentally drop the roller I’m holding to the floor in fear and shield my arms in front of me. Thankfully someone grabs Isabela from the shoulders before she could even lunge to attack. “Slow down there, sis.” Luisa arrives just in time, putting her furious older sister in a stronghold. She may have lost her superhuman strength, but that doesn't mean she isn't strong. “We don’t hit our elders.”
“I’m not going to hit Tío Bruno!" Isabela spat. "Dios mío, Luisa, what do you take me for? And how did you get here so quickly?”
“I was just across the hall. You’re pretty loud, but at least we’re the only ones working in this part of the house right now.” Luisa sets Isabela down, though she’s still gripping her arm. “Anyway, I heard what you were all talking about and came over. I want to know the truth too. I mean, I helped Mamá ‘that day’, you know? I’d be pretty disappointed with Tío if it turns out he’s seeing someone else.”
I feel myself deflate. It looks like I need to come clean to clear this mess up. “Fine. Fine.” I say to catch their attention. “I’ll tell you my secret. But please, don't tell the rest of the family.”
“Depends. This better be good…” Isabela mutters under her breath before Luisa pinches her elbow. “¡Ay! Alright, Luisa! Geez, I thought you said not to harm your elders…is that a way to treat your hermana?”
Mirabel snorts and earns herself a nasty look from her oldest sister.
“I’m not sure how to start this confession, but I’ll just go with it,” I begin with a shaky breath, fidgeting with my ruana. The battered cloth twists and untwists on my fingers. “You see, two months ago, your Mamás unceremoniously dragged me to La Casa Álvarez to get some answers. Dolores, I want you to know that your hunch was right. They were indeed hiding something, but it’s not what you think.”
“I knew it!” Dolores claps her hands together. “That kind of explains your reaction then, Tío, when you told me I was never meant to find her.”
“Wait. You’ve been helping Tío Bruno?” Luisa asks in wonder. “Since when?”
“Didn’t I say I heard him every day back then?”
“Fair point.”
“But enough about that,” Dolores waves a hand. “…what is your secret exactly, Tío?”
“Well, the secret is that I have found her. I just didn’t tell anyone.”
Gasps from my three older nieces. I raise a finger to stop their questioning looks. “Let me finish,” I gulp, gathering the courage to press on. “I don’t know what you’ve seen, but that’s why I’ve been dodgy lately. I was sneaking off to visit her almost every day. Your Tía Gabriela lives in the forest, close to the river where we first met…but for some strange reason, there is something like magic in the air…”
I jump in surprise when Isabela yells. “¡Dios dame paciencia!” She throws her arms up in frustration. “He’s gone mad. Not to be very rude, but…have you lost your mind, Tío? There’s no way there’s any magical intervention. No magic left in the Encanto, remember? The miracle broke?” She glances at Mirabel. “Sorry, sis.”
The youngest Madrigal sister just shrugs with a “none taken” look.
“But…”
“The ermitaña isn’t Tía Gabriela.” Isabela interrupts. “I was old enough to remember what she looked like!”
“But….”
“And I don’t believe you! Wait till Mamá and Tía Pepa hears what a lying, two-faced cheater you are, Tío Bruno!”
“Hold on, that’s too much,” Luisa interjects. “I don’t think Tío Bruno is even capable of doing that…?”
“Oh, you’d be surprised at what his telenovela plot points revolve around.” Dolores squeaks. “Though I agree, that’s a little far-fetched, Isa.”
“WHAT?” I back away, almost knocking down the paint can by my feet. “I’m not cheating on anyone. I’m telling the truth! I was with your Tía Gabriela yesterday.”
“Eh, but…that’s impossible, Tío.” Dolores purses her lips. “The ermitaña doesn’t look anything remotely like Tía.”
“There’s a perfectly good explanation for that, I think.”
We turn to find Julián by the doorway who’s carrying some wooden planks. “Sorry to barge in. I was just passing by when I overheard someone mentioning my sister's name." He apologizes. "But I can confirm that your Tío isn’t lying…and he’s certainly not doing anything suspicious either. I believe he’s the only one who can actually see what we don’t see.”
Isabela straightens up. “Uh, sorry, Señor…um…”
“No need to be so polite,” Julián laughs. “Just call me Julián. Or if you’re not comfortable with that, the Señor at the beginning would do. I baby-sat you, Dolores, and Luisa when you were younger, though Gabriela had been the one who took care of Mirabel.”
Mirabel blinks. “Really? Why can’t I remember?”
“Like I said,” Dolores emphasizes. “You must’ve been too young, but you know, you were her favorite. Isa and I were super jealous for a time.”
“I was?”
“You were!” Julián winks. “Anyway, whatever you do, don’t call me Señor Álvarez, please. That’ll be mi Papá.” He sets what he’s holding aside to join our conversation. “Now that we got that all cleared up…no luck yet in convincing her to come back home, amigo?”
“Wait, wait, wait.” I’m more disoriented than ever. “I don’t get what you mean. I’m the only one who ‘sees’ Gabriela? Let’s set this straight. What about you?”
“I did mention there was magic involved, didn’t I?” Julián smirks. “I don’t recognize my sister, actually. She looks different to me.”
“So you’re telling me that this…ermitaña everyone knows, and…my former…fiancée, are the same person? If you don’t recognize her, then how the hell did you know it was Gabriela in the first place?”
“I already told you, she tells me everything.”
“And you believed her with no question? How was Dolores not able to hear you two at the first instance?”
“Don’t underestimate the bond I have with my sister. I would do anything for her in a heartbeat. I’ve done it before, and I’ll do it again.” He retaliates. "Anyway, she knew the family would be looking for her, so we communicated mostly through letters."
“But she goes into town sometimes? Just...how do you…KNOW?”
“Eh, she may look different, but she still certainly acts the same way." Julián scratches his chin. "You know she's not very talkative unless it was with people she trusts.”
“That kind of explains why I only hear her when she wants to be heard...but this seems familiar...” Dolores chirps as the wheels in her head spin. “WAIT!”
“Uh…okay…?” Mirabel tries to hold back a laugh. “Do you remember something, Dolores?”
“Well…I was just thinking…Isa, do you recall when Tío Bruno used to tell us bedtime stories? There’s this specific one that was our favorite…”
Isabela’s eyes twinkle at the memory. “Oh, I do! We begged Tío to tell us the story over and over again…it's about a girl named Maria…”
“...who changed into someone else…”
“...and hid in plain sight until a man named Carlos…”
“...BROKE THE SPELL,” Isabela and Dolores say in unison.
“Wait, isn’t that the fairy tale about a woman and a magic river?” Luisa exhales. “It sounds exactly the same as to what’s going on…”
“Yeah. YEAH! So it does! Luisa, you’re a genius!” Isabela squeals, her mood suddenly shifting from confrontational to sheer excitement. “If what Señor Julián says is true, then that means…she’s Maria, and you’re Carlos!” She begins to shake me. “Tío Bruno, do you know what this means?”
“Woah, hold on,” I release myself from Isabela’s grasp. “There’s no way that would happen in real life. It’s just a story I made up…”
“What’s the gist of it?” Julián queries. “I’m curious.”
Dolores quickly runs down the entire story.
“So it was open-ended, huh?" Julián looks contemplative after she finishes. "Up for interpretation?”
“No. I mean yes. I mean, I don’t know, I just left it like that for dramatic effect when I told them the story,” I bite the inside of my cheek. Their theory sounds so ridiculous, but if I’ve learned anything from living in a once-magical, enchanted town, everything is not what it seems. “It was a long time ago. Of course, it wasn’t completely open-ended.”
“How does it actually end?”
“Look, that’s fiction. This…strange thing that's happening between me and Gabriela…is real.” I dismiss Julián’s question. There's a lump forming in my throat as I pick up my bucket and walk off. “Anyway, we still have a few more things to complete for the day, so let’s get back to work…”
Mirabel blocks my way out. Are all of Julieta’s mijas going to keep doing this? Who’s next? Luisa? “Mirabel, please,” I pinch the bridge of my nose. “I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Why not, Tío?” Her hands spread against the doorframe, preventing me from leaving. “Anything is possible, isn’t it? Is the outcome…something…bad?”
I glance over at everyone. The worry sits heavy in my gut. “No, but…the truth is, the story seems open-ended because Carlos doesn’t get to decide what Maria looks like.” I look down and find myself gripping the handle so tightly that my knuckles turn white. My fear tips over and it’s all I can think of. “If this…magic that’s protecting Gabriela the same thing, then that means I don’t get to decide the ending. She does.”

Spring Ball: Milena
Lady Julieta watched in the mirror as her lady's maid, Milena, did the last finishing touches of the updo she had styled her hair in. Simple, yet elegant - just how Julieta preferred her hair.
"How do you like it?" Milena stood back, hands folded with a small smile.
"Beautiful, as always. You always do such a wonderful job with my hair. Thank you."
"Oh, I'm not that good...I'm really best at braids," she stopped short, blushing bright pink at the image in her mind of braiding Lady Pepa's hair.
Julieta did notice the blushing but said nothing about it, instead changing the subject. "And the gown you helped me pick out is just perfect!" The girl did a careful twirl, smiling at herself in the mirror. "I'm a little nervous, to tell you the truth." The first ball of the season, and it would be all about first impressions. They were to that age where their mother was most certainly hinting that they needed to be wed soon and ought to mingle with people of their class, in hopes of finding a suitor to marry.
"Nobody would be able to tell; you appear so calm, milady!"
"Well, I don't quite wear my emotions on my sleeves like my sister."
There it was - the warm feeling returning to Milena's cheeks at the mention of Pepa. She really was trying so hard to keep that under control, but the girl just did things to her. Milena couldn't find words to respond to Julieta; they only came out in a stutter.
However, just in time it seemed, Lady Madrigal poked her head in the door, stating that the carriage was ready for them.
"Milena? Go fetch my other two children. Tell them we must leave at once if we are not to be intolerably late. Julieta? Come," the woman beckoned for her daughter to follow. It was time to go to the ball.
Milena bowed to the two women before leaving the room to go pass the message along. Her heart sped up fast as she got closer to Lady Pepa's room. She forgot her manners and sort of barged in without announcing herself, causing Pepa to jump.
Before she lost her nerve, she quickly repeated what she was told to tell them. Noticing Pepa was blushing, her cheeks immediately grew red, as well. She could barely hear Pepa's lady's maid, Aleja speaking to her over the sound of her own rapid heartbeat. Once she was out of the room, she let out a deep breath, trying to calm herself before heading to deliver the message to the third Madrigal triplet.
She muttered to herself under her breath as she walked, "You are just a maid, you are just a maid, you are just a maid," trying to give herself a reality check. She wasn't paying attention as she hurried in the direction of Lord Bruno's room and managed to trip over her own feet once she arrived.
Bruno was already opening his door as Milena was tripping, so she fell right at his feet. He looked down, raising an eyebrow. "Uh, you okay?" He awkwardly held out a hand to help her up.
Milena took his hand and accepted the help up, stepping back immediately in embarrassment once she was standing again. "Ah - thank you," she stammered. "Lady Madrigal says we need to go now, or we will be late."
"Uh, right," Lord Bruno cleared his throat, clearly distracted - likely anxious about the ball. "Thank you. You, uh - you better hurry along and catch up with Julieta and my mother. Wouldn't want her getting mad - my mother, that is. You know. She can be scary." He smiled sheepishly, shooing Milena along, which was in her best interest, really.

pepa madrigal x wife reader, where the reader gets hurt when casita was breaking down and after that pepa and the kids end up getting clingy and scared of something bad happening to reader again
😭 damn
Tumblr media
The day that Casita lost her magic was a living hell.. for both you and your family...
Mirabel was trying to get the candle while Casita was falling apart, you first made sure your children and wife got out safely. But you couldn't just leave your niece behind.. As you were escorting Pepa handing her to Camilo you would take a moment to look at your family before dashing back into the collapsing Castia.
Pepa would turn around to expect you behind her but when she saw that you were gone a dark cloud hovered over her head "(Y/n)..? (Y/N)! NO STOP COME BACK YOU'LL GET HURT!" Cried Pepa as she tried to run after you but Camilo held her back "No! mami please you cannot go in there..! You'll get hurt as well.."
Pepa would resist as she would slowly fall to the ground, crying as rain would begin to pour. Pepa can only wish that you and Mirabel make it out before the structure collapses on you two.
As you ran through the Casita you chased after Mirabel "Mirabel! It isn't worth it please! " she would ignore you as she would snatch the candle from the window it sat on. Making it down you would grab Mirabels hand and you would be running to the exit, Castia slowly began to come down you threw Mirabel to the exit as you were left inside a pillar would fall onto your foot as it held you down. Crying out in pain you tried to remove the pillar from your foot but you didn't have much strength.
Looking around you would cover your face waiting for the impact of the house to come down onto you, but whatever magic that was still left Casita would cover you with the last of the furniture that was left behind as the house would slowly lose all of its magic as the house finally came crumbling down
Everything from then was a blur you passed out from the impact you didn't feel any pain.. but there was a loud ringing in your ears and a bright light hitting your face. You woke up with Pepa hovering above you, frantically looking at you as she would be crying "Mi amor! Oh goodness you're alright!" She sobbed into your chest
Groaning quietly you would look around you were surrounded in the rubble of what once used to be a fun a lovely home.. now nothing but lifeless fragments of that home..
You sighed as you leaned your head back "Don't cry mi princesa.. I'm fine.. "
Camilo would gently rest your head on his lap as he sighed "Oh hush mama.. you were nearly crushed ... Tia Julieta is making something for that foot of yours.. Luisa managed to get the pillar off of your foot.. everything will be alright.." he said softly.
You would look up at him and smiled "Thank you for comforting your Madre.. I know it was a scary situation.. you were very brave.." Camilo would stay silent as he teared up a bit as he nodded "Of course mama.."
Soon in came Dolores and Antonio both of them looked shocked to see you in such a terrifying state. Both of them came up to you gently kneeling down beside you.
Dolores would frown "Mama.. don't ever do that again..please I think we were going to lose you.." she said as she took one of your hands. You would sigh as you nodded "Don't worry mi vida.. I can assure you I won't be.. going anywhere.. ' which made Dolores giggle quietly
Antonio wouldn't say anything as he would lay his head against your stomach tightly holding onto your dress skirt afraid if he let go you'd he gone.
Pepa would continue to sob against your chest but soon calmed down "Mi amor I thought I lost you..! What would I do with myself if something bad happened! " She whined
You would slowly reach out to her as you cupped her cheek "Don't cry princesa..I'm still here.. don't cry.. " you reassured as she would nod sniffing up her tears as she calmed down
Soon Julieta would heal you right up but you still felt weak and sluggish from what just happened. but overall you were fine
A few weeks passed and the new Casita was built.. everything was great expect the fact that..your family kept hovering above you..
They were usually clingy.. but now? Oh boy you barley get time to yourself without one of your children sitting beside you examining your evey move.
It's not just you're children.. also your lovely wife as well..
You managed to sneak out of the Casita without anyone noticing. Hiding under a tree as you finally got to read the book you were trying to catch up on. Sighing in relief you would open it, as you began to read you felt a certain tug at your skirt, looking down you found Antonio he would be looking up at you as he frowned.
You sighed as you set the book down for a moment "What is it my little Toñito.. "you said softly
He would scoot closer to you as he rested his head against you staying silent.
"Lemme guess.. mami is freaking out because I'm not at the Casita huh..?" You asked as you wrapped your arm around your son. He'd give you a slight nod "Shes worried something bad will happen to you.. we all are.." he said quietly as he nuzzled into your side.
Frowning a bit you would shake your head "Oh goodness.. Antonio.. what happened that day was an accident.. yes I was hurt.. but look at me now! I can run up to the tallest peak and back down to the encanto within a minute!" You teased as he would let out a quiet laugh
"No you can't! That's impossible!" He teased back
"oh yeah? Wanna bet on that mister..!" You said as he you would tickle his side. Antonio would jerk forward as he let out a high squeal bursting out in laughter as he tried to push you away "Mama! Stop it!" He whined
You would chuckle as you stopped "But seriously Toñito.. mama will be fine.. nothing will take me away from you and our family.. I will live up to a hundred years~" his eyes would lighten up "R-really!?" He said as he seemed surprised
Nodding you would smile down at him "Of course.. I mean I am apart of the great family Madrigal.. so who knows what lies in the future for me.."
Antonio stayed quiet as he hugged you tightly. You returned the hug as you would grab your book "At this point I think mama will never have time to herself anymore.." you teased as you got up, Antonio would do the same as he rolled his eyes playfully
"I'm sure one day.. but for now.. let's go before your mami starts panicking.. " you said as you grabbed a hold of his hand "Yea.. she almost started a tornado in the Casita when she found out you were gone.."
"Oh boy.. that means I'm in big trouble .." you whined. The little boy would laugh "Yup! " He said cheerfully as you two began to walk back to the Casita.
As you made it back to Pepa's room, there stood Dolores and Camilo comforting their mother as she seemed to be on the verge of a panic attack. You frowned a bit, you hated to see your wife in such a distressed state..
"Pepa I'm home~" you called out as Antonio would laugh as he would sit down on his mother's bed watching the incoming action.
Pepa would spring out of her seat and into your arms as she would be shaking a bit "W-where have you been! I was worried sick I nearly caused a hurricane!" She barked as she pulled away from you.
You would rub the back of your neck seeming a bit ashamed "Calm down princesa.. I went to spend some time by myself .. because every five seconds one of you guys starts to hover over my shoulder.. " you said calmly
Pepa would be surprised as she blushed a bit from embarrassment. So did Camilo and Dolores
"Look I know that day was scary.. you almost lost me.. but mi amores.. I'm fine.. I can assure you nothing like that will happen again.. Mama is fine and she will always be fine... Don't think that I'll disappear at any second.." you said softly
Your family would stay quiet. Pepa would be fiddling with her hair as she sighed "We are just..scared.. Scared that we will lose you again.." your wife said as she looked up at you. With tears in her eyes.
You dramatically gasped as you clutched your chest "Ah! Mi amor.. how could you think of something like that.. "you said as you gently pulled her into a hug "you will never lose me.. I am not that easy to get rid of.. ain't that right Antonio?"
"Right! She said shes gonna live up to a hundred years!" Antonio would chime in as the others laughed. Pepa would hug you tightly as she grumbled a bit "we were a bit clingy weren't we..?"
You would shrug "Ehh.. just a little bit.." you said dramatically as Pepa rolled her eyes. Looking at your two eldest children they still seemed uneased
"Hey you two.. I'll be alright.. it's fine to be clingy.. and it's fine to worry.. I don't mind.. but I am fine.. as long as I have all of you I will be alright..!"
Camilo would smile a bit as he came over to the both of you and joined in the hugging. Dolores seemed hesitant as she looked at you, frowning a bit "You promise..?" She said quietly
You smiled "I promise.. not get over here before I go over there and get you my self!"
Dolores would smile a bit as she rushed over to you guys and hugged you tightly as well.
Antonio anxiously waited for you to call him into the family hug. You dramatically whipped your head over to your youngest son "Get over here my little Toñito!" You cheered as he sprang up from his spot on the bed and joined in with his family.
"Aw my lovely familia ..!" You cheered and you enjoyed the embrace. From that day forward .. yes they are still clingy.. but not as bad as they were.. and everything ended up well for both ends of the family 😌

Pepa!Yuu and Bruno somehow finding out that Leona had fed Julieta!Yuu a sleeping potion: Ah so you have chosen death? *cue flashing thunder*
(This is totally not because I headcanon the triplets being overly protective of each other)
Pepa storms inside Savanaclaw with the biggest cloud of rain and thunder before starting to rant on Leona.
Pepa: HOW DARE YOU!!! YOU-YOU BASTA*D!!!
Bruno: Pepa! Calm down!
Pepa: You expected ME TO CALM DOWN?! DO YOU KNOW WHAT HE DO TO OUR SISTER?!
Leona: I do. And I just do what I should do.
Cue the blizzard start to appear inside the Savanaclaw dorm. Pepa stands with a very terrifying aura that makes every hair of the beast folk stand up. One thing they learn from their hometown is that girl is scary but a girl in rage? That is a whole other level.
Bruno: Welp. Guess you don't need my future to tell you how your life will end, right?
*Inside Savanaclaw kitchen*
Grim: Uh... Shouldn't you stop them?
Julietta! Yuu: Even my mother can't stop my sister's rage. Now come here and help me with this dough. We will need plenty of food today.

Julieta and Pepa comforting their child during their first period!
YES!!!! this is so cute and wholesome i hope you like this :D obviously these hcs will have a female reader. i’ve been so excited to write this since i got this request i could just imagine how cute their reactions would be🥺
Julieta Madrigal
Tumblr media
The only thing on this woman’s mind was helping you get through this. She knew that it was scary for you, and she wanted to care for you as much as she could.
When the accident happened, it was during breakfast. She dropped everything and ran to the bathroom to calm you down.
“Dios mio, are you okay?” your mother said as she knocked on the door softly. She waited outside patiently until you were ready to let her in.
She saw how embarrassed you felt and how much it freaked you out. She spoke to you very calmly because she didn’t want to scare you or anything.
“You’re a woman now mija, I’m so proud of you” she said as she took your hands and gave them a light squeeze.
She also gave you the choice to tell people if you wanted to. On top of that, she cleaned your stained clothes herself and reassured you that it was alright and that no one would know if you didn’t want them to.
She explained to you that it was a normal thing and that this was going to change your life for the better, even if it didn’t seem that way right now.
If you had any questions, she’d answer it without a second thought. If you were confused, she’d explain.
She also explained how to insert tampons and how to use pads. She gave you the choice to use whatever you wanted but she recommended pads, explaining they were the easiest thing to start with.
“Look Y/N, I’ll be putting pads/tampons under the cabinet for when you need them. I’ll also be carrying extra in my apron.”
She noticed that you were feeling more scared and nervous than usual, so she made you all do your favorite foods for dinner.
Seeing you relax at the smell of your favorite foods made her feel like all her hard work had paid off. That smile of yours kept her going.
She also brought you a heating pad for your cramps along with some medicine she created to help with nausea.
If you said you wanted space, Julieta respected that. She didn’t want you to feel stressed or confined.
Her mother’s instinct didn’t allow her to stop thinking about you though. She’d ask Mirabel or Agustin to go check on you if she was too busy to do it herself.
If she had the opportunity though, she went for it.
“Hola mi amor… I wanted to come check on you to see if you were doing alright. Is there anything you want or need? I’ll get it for you.”
Every time she’d come in your room to check on you, she would sit at the edge of your bed and hold your hand, telling you how scared she was of you growing up so fast.
This always lifted your mood. It made you feel all warm inside and forget all the fear you previously had.
Without fail, she’d always conclude her visits with “Ay te amo cosa linda!” as she gave you a kiss on the forehead and tip toed out of your room.
The woman also made a mental note of how long your cycle lasted. She wanted to be prepared for it every time.
Another thing to be added to her list of things to remember. But she was more than happy to be doing it for you.
Also, she didn’t pressure you to talk about it or anything. If you spoke about it she would listen, if you didn’t wanna talk about it at all that was okay too.
If you were moody and snapped at her, Julieta would never get mad at you for it and tried not to take it personal. Still, sometimes it hurt her feelings a little too much but she never told anyone about it.
When you came back, apologizing for your behavior, she tried not to tear up and squeeze you out of love. Seriously, she was such a softie.
“It’s okay mi amor. I’m here if you ever wanna talk.”
You thanked her over and over for being so supportive, it made her really happy.
“Of course mi vida. It’s what mothers do” she told you, pulling you in for a warm embrace.
Pepa Madrigal
Tumblr media
The second Pepa heard your screams from the bathroom, she ran over as fast as she could.
“Mi amorcito is everything okay? Please open the door” the woman said as she shook the doorknob gently.
When she finally saw what happened, she tried her best to calm you down by bringing you in for a tight hug.
“Look at you, all grown up already.”
Explaining that getting periods were a normal thing and that you knew this, she said that there was no need to feel ashamed for it or avoid talking about it.
Pepa sat down next to you in the bathroom for as long as you needed. If you were crying, laughing, shocked, or confused, it didn’t matter. She would stick by you through all of it.
She also waited outside the door nervously as you tried to use any of the supplies she gave you yourself.
If she was being honest, she was more scared about this than you were. Your mother continued to pace back and forth and she stroked her braid over and over.
You had grown up being taught about periods, so you knew why they happened and the things that came along with it, so there was no need to ask any questions. Or so you thought.
“Where the hell does this go?!” you said.
“Mi bebe, I don’t know what ‘this’ is! What color is it?”
“Blue? Purple? Pink? I don’t know mami!”
“What do you mean you don’t know Y/N! It’s a color!”
She offered to wash your clothes herself as well, teaching you how to effectively remove the stain so you could do it yourself from now on.
She also made sure that you two were completely isolated while she helped you, not wanting you to feel embarrassed if someone saw what you were doing.
That same day, she went out and bought all the different things people use for periods like tampons, pads, diva cups, sponges, etc.
Pepa came home and showed them all to you, explaining what each of them do. Your mother wanted to let you choose whatever you thought was best.
When you saw the strange applicator for the tampon, or the wings on the pads, you got really confused. Your mother was so patient and walked you through everything.
If you didn’t want anyone bothering you, your mother respected that but she just couldn’t make herself leave you alone completely but she tried her best to.
“Dolores, can you hear if Y/N is okay? I just don’t want them to think they can’t ask me for help.”
She encouraged you to keep track of your cycle in a notebook and list all of your symptoms so that your thoughts would be organized.
Every few hours, Pepa would knock on your room door and open it softly. She’d give you mini updates about what was happening in town and gossip she heard from Dolores as she brought you little “gifts”.
“I brought you some tissues, medicine, and toiletries… Oh! and I also got Juli to make you some food and I have someone delivering your favorite snacks soon too!”
It made you laugh when you saw your mother acting like this. She was really thinking about you a lot and wanted to make sure you were well.
“Also, let me know if you want to relax, I can get a bath running for you.”
Whenever she concluded her visits, she’d leave a slobber filled kiss on your cheek and her curly bangs tickled your ear.
Honestly, your mother tried to not make it a big deal, but she just couldn’t help it. You were growing up!
After your cycle was over, Pepa threw you a “period party” which consisted of more snacks as gifts and a vanilla cake decorated in red frosting. She thought she was genius for coming up with this.
“You do know I’m never letting you live this down right. I’m so gonna tell your future kids about this moment” your mother joked, wrapping her arm around you.
You laughed in response “Unfortunately, I do know. Don’t embarrass me too much, okay mama?” you said as you leaned your head on her shoulder.
“I wouldn’t dream of it, mi bebe.”

I crave the triplets having wholesome moments. Be it as kids or after they're reunited. Give me Pepa and Julieta crying over Bruno's Telenovela. Give me the siblings aggressively hugging the others when they feel bad.
Also give me moments between Agustin and Bruno just chilling and being friends. We can tell they were by how happy Agustin was to see Bruno, fully embracing all three triplets. (I'm sure Felix and Bruno are fine with each other, but it felt a little more awkward) Give me Bruno getting upset and running off only for Agustin to find him and bumble his way into cheering Bruno up. Give me Julieta chuckling as her disaster husband and brother bond, only interrupting when one of them inevitably hurts themselves.
Give me Pepa and Julieta dragging Bruno with them everywhere to get him out of the house and used to people again. Give me the two of them kicking the shit out of anyone who talks bad about their hermano, only to heal them because they don't want Alma to yell at them.
Give me Bruno awkwardly interacting with his nibblings. Give me Antonio clinging to his weird tío because they rats told him all about their favourite human. Give me Dolores happily sitting with her tío in a quiet spot, both either talking quietly or just giving silent company. Give me Camilo staring at Bruno for five minutes straight before apologizing and joking about how he genuinely thought he was scary and tall as a kid, after that Camilo follows his mamí lead in making life hell on anyone who picks on his anxiety ridden Tío. Give me Isabella hugging him and welcoming him back and excitedly giving him updates on her new plants. Give me Luisa and Bruno being anxious wrecks, bonding over it, and having self-care days together. Give me Maribel gifting him new clothes she embroidered on, checking on him, and pushing him out of his bubble and helping him calm down if she pushes too much.
Give me Mariano going full Agustin with his love and support, he obviously has big "I Love My Wife" and cares about her family, but give me Agustin, Bruno, and Mariano being dumbasses together.
This turned into a give the depressed rat man love and support post, but my point still stands. I relate to him too much for him to not be the center of my hyperfixation, but still give me Madrigal wholesomeness.

Today is Dolores's birthday! Feliz cumpleaños, Dolores!
After what I wrote for Isabela's birthday, as promised I made the same thing but with Dolores. And much more Angsty!
Enjoy!
You also can find it on Ao3 here!
Tumblr media
No warning, angst and fluff.
1362 words (wow did I really wrote much more for Dolores than for Isabela? My face is like Isabela's in the gif I chose)
Dolores is born!
Summary: A hurricane is ravaging the Encanto, but Félix is the happiest he could ever be! He's now the dad of the prettiest little girl he ever saw! What could ever upset him?
Thunder! On the day of August 31, the Encanto experienced the biggest hurricane they ever had. The wind was so strong, it was difficult to walk, and we had to lock the cattles and donkeys inside so they wouldn’t get blown away. The reason for that terrible weather: three weeks after her sister Julieta, Pepa gave birth to Dolores.
At Casita, we could hear Isabela cry as if her life depended on it, forcing Agustín to stay with her in another room. In the meantime, Félix was standing by Pepa's side, doing his best to calm down his newborn baby girl as well as his gasping wife, whose mood only got worse with time.
He thought it could happen when he saw Julieta giving birth weeks earlier, but he surely wasn't prepared for a turmoil that powerful the day his and Pepa's turn would come. Let's say he couldn't think of everything! This time, he overlooked how emotionally and physically hard giving birth could be, making his job way harder than usual.
He kept trying though, cheering her as much as he could "Look how beautiful our baby is! And it's our first child, do you realize how great it is?"
Thankfully, he was helped by Bruno, Julieta and Alma all cheering "You did a good job here, hermana!"
"How pretty she is! You can be proud, I know how hard it is!"
"She's a very cute baby, your labor was a big success! Eh! I'm sure she'll get a good gift later!"
Félix thought that last part wasn't necessary but appreciated his Mother-in-law's efforts. It also seemed to calm down Pepa a bit, whose gasping got slower. Full of hope, Félix continued "That's right Pepi! Our baby is so cute, you did well, we’re the luckiest parents!”
It still took her some time, but the weather finally went back to be more peaceful. At the same time, Pepa finally sighed with relief, leaning her head against Félix who lovingly stroked it. He took advantage of the calmer atmosphere to give her back Dolores, who he had been holding this whole time.
Bruno turned around the time for her sister to breastfeed her newborn baby, not daring to watch. This contrasted Félix, who was smiling before the view of his newborn so lively in his dear wife’s arms. He chuckled when she touched Pepa’s skin with her small hand, as if looking to get closer to her mother, letting a sound escape from her throat. He had been afraid the storm would have made her afraid of Pepa, but it didn’t seem to be the case. Suddenly, the realisation he was now a father hit him as an euphoria was making him giggle with happiness. He had a baby with the woman of his dreams! He had someone else to care for! It was a bit scary but he couldn’t be more happy in his life!
However, his joy got cut by Alma, who started to speak. “Pepa, you should learn to control your temper, especially now that you have a baby. You can’t simply create a hurricane each time your baby cries.”
Worried for her mental health, Félix did his best to reassure his wife, stroking her while she was closing her eyes, visibly not listening, while Alma was going on “A baby needs some special care! While it’s better to make her used to noises, a tempest could scare her and that’s not good! Be sure too you have many skin contacts with your baby; it’s important to bond with her! But be careful not to touch her when your hands are dirty, make sure to regularly wash your hands.”
Then, seeing Pepa falling asleep against her husband still lovingly stroking her, she turned to him to scold “She shouldn’t fall asleep when she’s feeding her baby! It’s dangerous! Be certain to tell her, we wouldn’t want to lose a baby because she wasn't careful enough.”
“I’m sure she’ll be more careful in the future”, assured Félix. “For now, she’s exhausted, so that’s normal for her to fall asleep. You should understand, you had three babies.”
“I don’t say I don’t understand, I just say she should pay more attention, or a disaster will come because she would have made a mistake.”
Félix shrugged, not really wanting to argue with his mother-in-law. He always was in her good graces, and wasn’t ready to fall from that position because of her anxieties about his wife taking care of her own baby. This is why he simply stayed silent, keeping stroking his wife to appease her with his love for her.
Julieta was the next one to talk, with a sweet tone, praising “That little girl is so pretty though! You’ll say congratulations to Pepa, she actually did a good job!”
“Thank you, I will!” laughed Félix while covering his wife’s breast now that Dolores let go of it and was sleeping, before informing Bruno “You can now stare, hermano!”
He obeyed with a sigh of relief. Then, he carefully approached with curiosity, having visibly waited to be authorized to so he could also admire his new niece without being in the mess of the tempest created by Pepa’s mood. It leads him to exclaim “She looks like a mix of Pepa and you!”
“Yes!” laughed Félix once again. “Well, she’s our daughter so yes she looks like us two!”
Bruno chuckled, blushing with embarrassment for having stated the obvious. Thus, while Alma was watching the baby with a thoughtful look, finally claiming "She's pretty, but less than Isabela." Then, while the family in the room was staring at her with shock, she turned to Bruno to ask him "Could you have another vision?"
"Mamá..." he answered in a low voice. "Last time you were happy but that doesn't mean you will this time too."
"Brunito, I really need to know-"
"I can't do this, mamá."
She stared at him, seeming unhappy but not complaining. We could feel in her eyes how disappointed she was though, scaring the poor seer, making him hide in his oversized ruana.
Pretty angry at what was happening in front of him, Félix raised his voice at Alma’s intention but without watching her so as not to seem like it, praising his sleeping wife “My Pepa is the best mother in town. She will perfectly take care of Dolores and I’ll help her in doing so. I don’t think there is any need for you to be worried Abuela, we’ll be fine.”
“I hope so!” answered Abuela with a smile, unaware of what Félix meant. “Especially if you follow my advice, you’ll totally be fine raising her.”
Then, she took one of her watches to look at it with a frown, glanced at the window, then turned to Bruno and Juileta informing them "Time is running! Now that the weather has calmed down, we should go back to our duties. Julieta, señora Osma broke her leg, I'll go tell her to meet you at your stand in one hour." She nodded, hurrying to go cook. "Bruno, señor Flores is worried for his head, he wants you to have a vision about it." He sighed while walking out of the room to go to his. Félix knew he didn't want to do it but didn't dare go against Alma.
When Pepa woke up, only Félix stayed in the room. He was hugging her tightly against him with fear while she was watching him with curiosity. Their dear little Dolores was moaning, as if sensing something was happening. "What's happening Amor?"
Sensing something was afoot, he took her hands in his, claiming "Mi Vida, I promise you I'll support you and our baby, and the next, as much as I can! Because I love you and can't bear to have anything happening to you or our children."
"Are you expecting us to have more children?"
He smiled "You don't want to?"
"Right now the idea makes me sick."
He laughed, thinking how in love he was with that woman. They kissed, making Dolores moan because of Pepa's movement she didn't appreciate. Félix was smiling, again more happy than ever.

Encanto headcanons!
•Mirabel has always loved crafting toys for Antonio. Peppa thought it was too excessive at times, but let her continue
•at one point, Antonio wanted Mirabel to teach him to sew. But once he stabbed his hand one too many times with a needle just trying to get thread through it, Mirabel talked him into learning how to paint instead
•Camilo sulked around a lot when everyone found out Antonio would be a boy, but once he was born, Camilo refused to put him down.
•Dolores still teases Camilo for crying the first time he held Antonio
•Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel were actually very close when Mirabel was young, before her gift ceremony. Knowing Mirabel got jealous of their bedrooms, the three of them would often have sleepovers in Mirabel's room, with Isabela filling it with her favourite flowers.
•it took Bruno a long time to get used to family routines, but eating together took him the longest. For his first week back in casita, Peppa and Julieta often caught him trying to sneak half prepared food into his room to eat alone.
•once everyone settled in the newly rebuilt casita, Camilo found Bruno to apologize to him in private. Which was really just a lot of stiff hugs and Camilo tearfully admitting to the awful ways he would describe Bruno to scare his cousins, and Bruno trying his best to calm the poor kid down.
•after this, the two of them were practically inseparable. Camilo had been labeled as scary being due to the nature of his gift, and he admired his tío for being able to shoulder those kind of judgements.
•Dolores took great pride in helping with Antonio's first school lessons. She loved seeing him grow, and used rhymes and songs to help him remember lesson details
•Peppa suffered from panic attacks from trying to suppress her emotions as a younger teen (around 13-15 age range), and the only person who could calm them and get through the intense weather she would create around herself was Bruno
•despite Abuela's pressure for another grandchild after Mirabel's failed gift ceremony, Félix almost refused to have Antonio with Peppa, because giving birth to Dolores and Camilo almost wiped the Encanto out completely in a tsunami.
•Julieta often worries that one day, someone from the Encanto will ask for her help to heal something that her cooking isn't strong enough to remedy.
•as often as she has tried, Julieta's cooking can't get the bags out from under Bruno's eyes. Abuela assures Bruno that the bags suit him and compliment his features, but really she just feels bad that Julieta can't fix them.

don't think about alma crying softly and hanging a picture of pedro on the walls of the new casita the night it's formed. the triplets are eerily silent in their nursery and her shawl wrapped firmly around her shoulders. don't think about her kissing his picture one final time and dragging her finger across his jaw as the casita slowly breaths with her and the babies begin to cry.
don't think about alma refusing to sleep in the room the casita formed for her, opting to stay with her babies instead. bringing them into the room feels wrong , sleeping alone does too, but the bedroom stays warm and dust free in case she ever needs it. don't think about the casita staying extra still as she walks by the closed door and don't think about her apologizing to the doorknob for rejecting this miracle. don't think about her forcing herself to sleep in her own room when her children grow a little more and don't think about her deciding that even if she hates it, she must honor the miracle. she must put the miracle first.
don't think about pepa's first meltdown with her gift and how scary it is for alma, the flashing lighting and thunder making her flinch as she begs her baby to calm down. don't think about her sobbing in her room when it's done, the casita has dried itself out and pepa is told she can't leave her room for a day. don't think about how worried she must be for the encanto, that pepa's childish arrogance might drive it away and she'd be powerless again.
don't think about alma pushing bruno into his first vision and how she pushes down the guilt of forcing him to use his gift. but he must use it, for the good of the encanto. he swore it, and so did she as she beat the banks of the lake with her tears and watched her pedro d13s. he shakes for hours after and doesn't say anything for days. don't think about julieta trying to feed him to make him feel better or pepa trying her hardest to stay happy so that she can make rainbows for bruno.
don't think about a ten-year-old julieta staying up late to bake her mother's recipes for the village in the morning. she's going to start a stand in the square and make her mami proud. don't think of alma scolding an exhausted julieta for burning the arepas and sending her to bed. don't think about alma saying that they'll just have to open the stand another day and that julieta's gift will just waste for now. don't think about her trying to kiss her daughter's forehead still, she's just trying to keep the encanto safe, she's not actually upset. but julieta runs away and locks herself in her room. don't think about alma falling asleep against her door after begging her to come out all night.
essentially don't think about the start of alma's fears and coping with the encanto, or the pain she passed through to her children to keep them safe. she just wanted to be a good mother, she just wanted to honor her three miracles.

Camilo X Reader:
Tears VI
Tumblr media
{ I , II , III , IV , V .}
Summary: Camilo tries to be your friend, but you're blocking him out.
~
"WHAT!?", Pepa says in shock, thunder sounds from outside. "Who-Why-Are they ok?"
"They're fine Pepa. Camilo brought them to the house to eat some of my food.", her sister says and pats her nephew's shoulder.
Camilo looks up at his mother and nods before looking down at his hands again. The red haired woman smiles at her child and gets to eye level with him.
"I'm so proud of you mi hijo.", his mom says, lifting up his head with her hand and pecks his forehead. "Now, who were the ones that did such a terrible thing.", her smile quickly switches to a scary frown.
The lighting in the house changes due to the clouds blocking the sun.
"It-", the curly haired boy sighs and looks down again. "It was a group of boys that I play with..but I don't know why my friends would do that.", he says, looking back up at his mom.
"I believe you, I believe you.", Pepa reassures her son when noticing his worry. "However, I don't want you playing with those boys again, and I'll be the one to tell their parents what they did.", she says standing up straight with a firm look.
He watches as his mother leaves the room and sighs. His tía notices him frowning.
"What's wrong?", she asks him.
"I told them sorry but I think they're scared of me now.", he says and looks to his aunt. "What do I do?"
"Show them you aren't scary.", Julieta tells the boy and gives him a side hug. "Go clean up, lunch will be ready soon."
Camilo does as told, going up to his room to change.
The next day, his mother asks him for the names of the boys, once getting them she heads out of the house. Rain pouring outside as she stomped her way to tell the parents.
Unlike most people in Encanto, you loved the rain. It was always so calming to watch, the smell of the wet stones and the noise it made were the best. However, the rain couldn't cheer you up today. Your parents were getting worried and they decided to set up a play date with you and Camilo.
"Do I have to go?", you whispered, looking up at your mother.
"Yes, it'll be good for you to have some fun.", she says and pulls you along to the Madrigal's house.
"Camilo! Your new friend is here!", Pepa says, and a rainbow shows up in the sky.
The both of you are left alone to play together, your mother promising to come pick you up before dinner. You stayed quiet, not even looking at the boy.
"Um..", the green eyed boy starts. "What games do you like to play?", he asks, but you don't respond.
"I like playing tag, um..marbles. Oh! And hide-and-seek!", he says, noticing the last one peaked your interest. "We can play that, I'll be the seeker and you hide. Ok?"
You nod and wait for him to go over to a wall he could lean against and count on.
"I'll count to twenty.", he says and covers his eyes, facing the wall. "One..two..three..", he begins counting.
You run off, going up to the second floor and look around for a good hiding spot so he wouldn't bug you anymore.
"..ten..", he says the half way point.
Quickly, you go to a door that isn't glowing and quietly go into the room, closing the door.
"You're here again?", someone from behind you says, making you jump and turn around.
It was the nice girl with glasses, she was sitting on her bed and smiling at you.
"Wanna play with me? Mi mamá got me a clay cooking set.", she says, showing you the small clay cup and pitcher.
It was better than staying near him. You nodded slowly and went over to sit across from her.
"I'm making some juice. You can start making the food.", she says and pretends to make juice.
Looking down at the toys, you pick up the heating pan and pretend to make some food.
Meanwhile, Camilo was having a hard time trying to find you downstairs.
~
They really ditched him lol.

How the Post-Movie Madrigals Would Defend Each Other Headcannons Part 3: Julieta
Alma: If she saw her mother getting insulted, she would stand back in shock as Alma defended herself. She would probably refuse to heal the person for a good amount of time.
Félix: If she saw her brother in-law getting insulted, she would either defend him herself or tell Pepa.
Pepa: If she saw her sister getting blamed for the weather or people trying to control Pepa’s emotions, Julieta wouldn’t hesitate to smack someone. Not enough to make a permanent mark, mind you, but enough to get her point across.
Bruno: Insulting her little brother after she just got him back? Calling him a curse?! Biggest mistake anyone could ever make. Don’t blame her if you get hurt and she can’t heal you. You really should’ve seen this coming.
Agustín: Just because she gets annoyed sometimes at how often she has to heal her husband, that does not give others the right to insult him. She would take this personally.
Isabela: Seeing her oldest child get insulted for ’not being perfect’ or anything like that would make her angry as hell.
Dolores: If she noticed people overwhelming her niece, Julieta wouldn’t hesitate to tell them off. After, she would bring Dolores home and perhaps give her a snack if she has a headache or something like that.
Luisa: Julieta would be one of the first people to fully encourage Luisa to take breaks. Because of this, if she caught any villagers trying to overwork her she would definitely be upset. She’d tell them off in a calm, yet scary, tone.
Camilo: If Camilo came to her healing stand because he got hurt as “punishment“ for one of his pranks. Or if she caught people making fun of their identity. Julieta would definitely be mad.
Mirabel: If she caught people talking shit about Mirabel’s lack of a gift or how ’Mirabel doesn’t belong’ you better believe she’s gonna come for you. You better believe her husband and two older daughters wouldn’t be far behind. (The rest of the family stands back to watch as Julieta insults them to the sun and back.)
Antonio: If Antonio ever got hurt because of someone else and came to her healing stand, you better believe she’d find out who did it. She’d immediately tell Pepa and Félix and watch as the person’s day is destroyed.
