Thoughts While Watching Gilmore Girls, 3x9, A Deep Fried Korean Thanksgiving, Part VI
Leaving so soon Soggy?
Mama Kim made Soggy play guitar for 5 straight hours without a break and for that he was rewarded a small Tupperware of leftover Tofurky and $20. I see she went to the Luke Danes Managerial School (Employing Teenagers Division)
Hey you two, knock it off, Jesus is watching.
Meh. I'll be honest, I got nothing much to say about Soggy and his relationship with Lane. He's fine, they're fine. I guess. Tragically over rated. I don't really care.
You've heard the term "death wish", but Rory seems to have a "speech wish" which is just the same. Why do you always poke the hornet's nest?
Batten down the hatches! Speech Ahoy! Every man for himself! SAVE YOURSELVES!
So there's this post going around that asks if you're embarrassed by your most recent Google search, and no, I'm not embarrassed that mine is "Titanic man hitting propeller gif" because it's all in a day's work here at the Salt Mines.
"My heart knows that whatever place you go, Harvard, Princeton, Yale..."
Lorelai rolls her eyes and grimaces at the word "Yale."
(A deep Millennial pop culture cut from the depth's of my memory bank)
"Wherever you go, it's gonna be great and awesome and you're gonna come out on the other side an even more amazing you!"
A fortune teller, Lorelai Gilmore is not.
But at least The Grinch's heart grew three sizes that day, so credit where credit is due I guess? Lorelai seems to have had a change of heart, and she only had to display a breathtaking amount of infantile behavior (which an insult to infants everywhere, to be quite frank) and repeatedly humiliate herself and everyone around her to get there. It's the Lorelai Gilmore way.
*holds onto imaginary earpiece* What's this, I'm getting word that a "BUT" has landed. Houston, we have a But.
FINE. You do that. You have as many little inside conversations with yourself as you want and we'll all have a Happy Thanksgiving.
And all is right the world again, and Rory totally isn't pushing all this stuff deep down inside where it can fester for years and turn her into her future therapist's wet dream $$$$
Rory wishes Sookie and Jackson would adopt her.
Which kind of drunky are you?
or
(Look, I’m sure there are a hundred drunker quotes from Liz than this one but I don’t have all day here)
Happy Thanksgiving in July, ya'll.
On the next episode of TWGGG: The very homoerotic finale. The uh, Dean and Jess showdown.

March 1987. The thing that sustains Batman through some lengthy fallow periods and a fair amount of pure dreck is that when he's cool, he's really cool, as in this scene from BATMAN #405, the second part of "Batman: Year One."
It's been a while since I looked at the original issues, and I'm struck by how dramatically Richmond Lewis redid her color scheme for this storyline for the HC and TPB collections. Compare the above pages to the recolored versions:
Note that the reds are complete gone and the saturation is dialed back a lot; the second page is almost grayscale except for the oranges and yellows of the flambé.

grad school is just fighting with the worst online library database trying to find a workable edition of a semi-obscure text and going slowly rabid because all my “institutional access” and “third-party sources” can get me is:
- the crunchiest, highest contrast, most sandblasted, misaligned scan in existence of an original manuscript (no OCT or pdf available)
- one (1) verse translation on hathitrust from 1831 which has since been thoroughly lambasted for wildly inaccurate interpretation of the text
- an unpublished critical edition cited in the footnotes of 2 secondary scholarship pieces, available only via pleading email to the academic who wrote it and is now retired
+ an unrelated modern cookbook / memoir / high fantasy romance novel w/ the same or similar title

I think most can agree they should not hire writers who hate characters to write them. You can always tell and it only ever hurts the characters. However sometimes characters benefit from a writer that bullies them. Saying this as a Wally West fan, who will forever appreciate William Messner-Loebs for seeing the asshole that both Wolfman and Baron had left him to write and went you know what I’m going to beat that out of him.

What do you think about Mike Baron's run of Wally? /gen. I have never read it but it seemed like a total mess.
i think most people would agree with you lmaooo. i'm personally not a fan and i don't think it's particularly crucial to read. but at the same time it's what lays the groundwork for who wally is in the immediate aftermath of barry's death so having that context before you dive into the loebs run can be very useful. my main gripe is that baron continues to write wally in the same vein that wolfman did so he's a conservative and a bit of a dickhead. but the latter part is forgiving to an extent because as i already mentioned barry is dead so it's not like the dickheadedness comes out of nowhere in this particular context (as opposed to whatever it is wolfman thought he was doing in new teen titans). all in all i would say it's not hard to read. very short number of issues and aside from those writing gripes the drama is kind of insane to follow (eg wally's relationship with tina mcgee. who is married and ten years his senior. yikes! also the stuff with his mom being a horrible persongjkfjglsf) so it scratches an itch in your brain to say the least
