In honor of Friday the 13th, I think we deserve some black cat facts!

(it also gives me a chance to show off my kit😅)

We've all heard the myths and ledgends of how black cats are bad luck, but how did that come to be? To understand that, we need to see how it all started.

Of course, one of the earliest connections between cats and humans is ancient Egypt, cats often being seen as divine symbols. There was even an Egyptian goddess, Bastet, who had the head of a cat and a slender female body. She was the goddess of protection, pleasure, and the bringer of good health.

But how did they fall from divinity to being bad luck?

Well, they appear in Greek mythology, specifically related to Hecate, who is the goddess of magic, sorcery, the moon and witchcraft. Hecate was described as having a cat as both a pet and a familiar. (Y'know, the thing witches have in European folklore)

You can probably guess where it's going from here, but why did Europe end up hating them so much?

Well, it was the church (Shocking I know). The church insisted black cats were the incarnation of Satan.

It's also heavily linked to paganism which, as the church grew in power, pagans were considered direct threats to the church and thus accused of being witches.

My personal favorite quote is "Cats, like the women accused of witchcraft, tend to exhibit a healthy disrespect of authority" "They don't fawn, like dogs, upon even the unworthy. In the church, neither independent women, nor independent animals, were to be tolerated."

Of course we know Europe did more than that, but what else was there?

Well for one, they blamed the cats for the bubonic plague and started killing them on sight. Unfortunately we now know it wasn't the cats but the fleas on the rats and with very few cats to kill the rats, the plague spread like wild fire.

That superstition of a black cat crossing your path? Yeah that was also the church. It was supposed that if a black cat crossed your path it could have been a witch sending it's familiar to harm you. Similarly they believed it could have been the devil themself. So these peasants would run to the nearest church to ask for blessings. Naturally the church used this, encouraged it, and endorsed these 'bad omens'

These beliefs were of course brought over to America causing the Salem witch trials and countless more deaths of both people and black cats.

Actually I think that we should stop questioning other people's sexuality based on how they present, and I mean everyone. This includes straight cis people. If a straight woman wants to dress more masc she should be able to! If a straight cis man wants to dress more feminine he should be able to! You shouldn't automatically assume someone's sexuality because of how they dress and act.

Victim number one of Trickster!Reader's pranks.

For someone who is literally in a dorm that's based on a world of nonsense, Riddle has quite a low nonsense tolerance.

Trickster!Reader is Riddle's worst nightmare fr.

How did the two them even end up together?

Riddle probably feels like he aged ten years whenever he's with Trickster!Reader.

At this rate, his hair might just turn gray before he even reaches his thirties.

If it wasn't for the fact that they couldn't use magic so Riddle's Unique Magic has no effect on them Trickster!Reader would have been collared even more than the whole of Heartslabyul combined.

Though, Riddle can never stay mad for too long, since he unfortunately loves them, and their silliness.

So he begrudgingly let's them do what they please, as long as they're not breaking any rules.

No. He is not turning a blind eye to the fact that they broke rule 339. The post-meal beverage is to be lemon tea with two sugar cubes. He just doesn't have any proof of them breaking the rule! (He definitely is turning a blind eye)

Ace complains about the favoritism all the time, which sometimes ends up with him being collared.

"My love, could you please, for the love of the Great Sevens, stop putting ice cubes with frozen gummy eyeballs in them into my drink?!"

Unlike Riddle, Trey has quite a high nonsense tolerance.

After all, he is the older brother in his family, and basically a brother figure for most Heartslabyul students, there's no way he isn't used to Trickster!Reader's nonsense.

Basically impossible to get a reaction out of him. Whenever Trickster!Reader tries to prank him he's like "Ah, is this one of your pranks again?"

Though, he is usually the one making sure they don't break any of Heartslabyul's rules, just so that they don't end up getting collared by Riddle. Even though they're not a Heartslabyul student, with the amount of time they spend there, they're basically an honorary student at this point.

Trey himself is also fan of few simple pranks, so he might just prank Trickster!Reader as revenge from time to time. Nothing to big though.

Or he's just helping them with a prank, but most of the times he's just minding his own business while they're pranking every single person they see.

Whenever Trickster!Reader pranking someone else, he's most likely to just shake his head and turn blind eye to him. Hm? No he didn't see anyone replace your caramel apple with onion instead.

"Love? Do you know why is there a piece of string taped onto the center of the door frame? Wait, why are you holding a fake spider? Ah, is this for one of your pranks again? I see..."

The whole of NRC fear the both of them. NRC shall know fear.

Riddle's worst nightmare part. 2, but this time the both of them are also Azul's worst nightmare.

Though, Azul doesn't mind as long as it doesn't affect Mostro Lounge's business. If it does though, he might just make force the both of them to sign a contract so that they are not allowed to do pranks inside of the Mostro Lounge.

Floyd is often the one helping Trickster!Reader prank people.

Thinks that being around them is always a lot of fun.

Though, that opinion does a 180 when he's the one victim of Trickster!Reader's prank.

The start of a prank war between the two of them, always finding one way or another to surprise each other with a prank.

Though, Floyd os the one getting pranked the most since sometime his mood just does an 180 and he isn't in the mood to go through with his prank anymore.

More mischievous student at NRC, like Lilia and Ace, and maybe even Jade might just join the two of them in their shenanigans from time to time.

Thoughts on the VR game scene in ep 8 of the cherry magic radio drama

that is one long ass title

Hello dear friends, this will only really interest like 5 of you but I shall ramble about this surprisingly thought out scene nonetheless.

For the uninitiated: There's a (in my opinion) fantastic chinese radio drama adaptation of cherry magic, which you can find right here. The person translating this adds a new episode every wednesday and it's currently at 8 episodes (out of 13). If you enjoyed the manga, you will really enjoy this adaptiation, I promise.

On to my rambling now tho.

Disclaimer: I haven't watched the whole rd yet, so I might be mischaracterizing them a little bit (maybe). Also some of the things I'm saying might be a bit of a stretch but oh well 😌

So the scene I'm talking about is actually made up of two parts: the wait for the VR game and the actual game.

Pre-VR game, they're both standing in line and immediately we're met with a deviation from the manga: Kurosawa gets a number and suggests to play this rhythm game while they wait. Adachi doesn't end up playing but he does put the headphones for the game on Kurosawa, who points out how loud they are. I thought it's kinda weird that Adachi's the one putting them on him (cuz like, couldn't he just do that himself?) but if you see it in a more symbolic way it makes a lot of sense. Adachi's line "Now you can sing all you want" while Kurosawa's happily humming to himself, coupled with the fact he's blissfully unaware of the mean girls chattering about them in the background, makes me think this is symbolism for Adachi "shielding" him from the outside world and giving him a space to be himself, free of judgement and harsh words. The rest of the scene plays out pretty much the same as in the manga, with Adachi getting into his head and subsequently slapping Kurosawa's hand away.

So then they both get ready to play the VR game, which is actually just one big metaphor for their relationship. They both get told they'll first have to "adjust to the VR vision" -> adjust to their new relationship Kurosawa: "We'll fight side by side" "Don't shoot me before the round starts" -> "We're finally together!" "Don't write me off before I've even had a chance to prove myself a worthy boyfriend" The game starts and they both can't see each other, tapping around in the dark. -> This relationship is new to both of them, for Adachi because he's never been in one, and for Kurosawa because it's the first genuine loving relationship he's ever been in. Adachi gets really in his head about how the date is going, same as in the manga. While he does that, Kurosawa is repeatedly calling out for him in the real world. -> They're both trying to make this work and stumbling, Kurosawa not getting through to Adachi with his spoken words, yet so desperate to reach him. Kurosawa: "Adachi, say something back" -> Kurosawa craves acknowledgement, pre- and post-getting together. Then finally Kurosawa touches him and that's when Adachi finally responds, Kurosawa going "Found you" in his thoughts. -> Adachi is touched, literally and metaphorically, by Kurosawa and his thoughts, his positive influence pulling him (here only briefly) away from his negative thoughts. The staff instructs them to stand apart, while Kurosawa's surprised at this. ("Aren't we on the same team?") -> I think the staff is supposed to represent the judging eyes of society in this metaphor, telling them they're meant to be apart, as they don't fit together (just like the gossiping girls at the beginning said). (This might be a stretch but it also gives heteronormativity vibes, as in, you're supposed to be apart, you're both "on the same team" (same gender)) Staff: "But if you two get too close during the fight, you might accidentally hurt each other." -> If we drop the staff=society metaphor here, this sentence really just represents their entire early relationship dynamic of trying to do what they think is best for the other, but ending up hurting each other instead, without meaning to. The closer they get, the more friction their differences create. Kurosawa being the one who acts first: "Is this much distance alright?" -> Of course he would be the first to try to accomodate these new restrictions, always trying to take up as less space as possible to not be a source of trouble for Adachi. Eventually the actual game starts up and they play, Kurosawa telling Adachi that he'll "cover for him", but ultimately failing at this ("I said I'd cover for you but I only ended up slowing us down") -> Kurosawa trying to do more than he's capable of and messing things up for both of them is kind of a running theme with him. (shameless plug to my essay about this here lol) Adachi performs poorly in the game because he couldn't focus. Kurosawa immediately asks if they want to go again, but he doesn't feel like he can do it, ending the scene there. -> Adachi worrying too much about how others see him/them is not only how he loses the game but also how he "fails" the date, losing all hope that him and Kurosawa are meant to be together at all, even though Kurosawa is very willing to try and make it work.

The rest of the episode plays out very differently from the manga, so I can only really analyze that when I finally get to watch the next episode. 👍

hamilton, entirely self written about a self-made man with the weight of the world on his shoulders who needed to prove himself, all while being completely in homage to rap legends through and through

very similar themes across both yoongi’s solo work and les mis - injustice, class, tragedy, loss, to name a few. while also being so sympathetic towards its varied characters, reminiscent of yoongi’s sensitivity and mindset

hoseok - wicked 

I think jack in the box just solidifies this as my pick for hoseok tbh

because there’s the childlike wonder side we all see and know (wizard of oz, j-hope of bts)

but then everything that surrounds it and the real story behind it (wicked, jitb)

both wicked and jitb offer a look into a “character” we think we’re familiar with, but it turns out we really aren’t

when we finally see them tell their story in their own words

elphaba struggles with her “role” and so does hobi, literally spelling it out for us in jitb

they both feel trapped, and thus reclaim and reinvent themselves 

It’s a very identity-focused musical/album that still links back to prejudice in our world, too and "where they fit in"

jimin - chicago 

sex

chicago is a look into fame/celebrity and corruption and ambition, and i think jimin has quite strong values when it comes to that

to me, it seems as though he finds those topics very interesting to think about

and also, how that all intersects with sexuality and gender

it feels like the crux of what chicago is as a musical but also who jimin presents himself to be

taehyung - west side story

i wanted something that’s a bit of a more classic musical for taehyung, and out of the ones i am familiar with, wss seemed the most fitting (tho i have a sneaky suspicion that one of the ones i am *not* familiar with might be more him)

taehyung is a romantic and, like nj, he almost romanticizes his losses and spends time looking back and reflecting on his own relationships and even his relationship with 'love' as a whole - layover proves it

so of course wss makes sense, the dance numbers, the longing, the risk of it all, the fact that it's story about "the power of love"

i think it'd leave quite the impact on tae, if he hasn't seen it yet

despite being a retelling of romeo & juliet (which tae would LOVE) wss also set the precedent for many musicals to come, much like tae did. looking back, it was very innovative for its time in so many different ways

musically, it's very taehyung. i could see him wanting to do covers of the songs. maria, tonight, and something's coming (he'd always go back to this song)

in every iteration of it, it's also very cinematic and very personal at the same time, which means it is very taehyung

jungkook - grease 

I didn’t WANT to pick grease and feed into that stereotypical ‘bad boy jk’ idea

but like i can’t not

and it’s not so much that it is representative of who jk is as a person

except aesthetically (the dazed cover is proof)

but that i can see jungkook himself enjoying the musical numbers and poking fun at john travolta, imitating him in his dance moves

i think he’ll particularly enjoy “you’re the one that i want” and might develop some sort of ‘corruption’ fantasy of turning a good girl bad

this might be me projecting that i want jk to do to me shhhhhhh

oh and he will go through a phase of calling his car “grease lightning” and sing the song every damn time he gets in it

Okay so my modern AU is very loose (there's still magic, vampires, fantasy races, etc.) but with real world locations and references at times. It has been titled "bass pro shop pyramid meet cute AU"

The gist is- Gale is on the edge of getting divorced and is at a work conference out of state with some colleges and Mystra and he absolutely beefs finding a place to eat. He thinks he's pulling up a nice interesting restaurant on google maps and fails to realize it's at the top of the Bass Pro Shop Pyramid until he's in the parking lot.

So after they arrive Mystra basically laughs him out of the car and her and his collages leave him there in favor to find somewhere else, but he's adamant that he's gonna get a good meal. Only issue is- restaurant doesn't allow for single seating patrons- you need a party of 2 or more.

Awkwardly he circles the shop asking multiple people if they'd help him out and eat a meal with him, on him of course, but the idea of some stranger approaching most of these people is super off putting. He's wearing a conference lanyard, he's sweaty and unorganized. When he spots this super tall, ambiguously gendered githyanki watching the live bass in one of the tanks.

Rehearsing to himself a few times, Gale decides this is his last shot and approaches the gith. "Hello, I'm one Gale Dekarios, you don't know me but I'm out of town and I've found myself in a bit of a predicament- might you lend a hand?" Gum hears him out and agrees to eat with him.

They have a surprising dinner. Gale finds out that Gum is also not from the area, he's on a trip and works at a hospice back in his home state. They share a bottle of wine, eat some expensive steaks, and it leaves Gale sweaty and exhilarated. They exchange social media contacts and just like Cinderella, Gum has to go because he's flying out tomorrow and leaves Gale one of his keychains to remember him by.

Gale returns to his daily life back in his home state, and everything feels so pale, so empty. He's chasing the high of this ambiguous stranger and he's determined to see them again. With a little detective work Gale's able to cross reference a general idea of which hospice Gum works for and sees that it's fairly close to a near by campus that's owned by the same umbrella as the one he's working for now. Myatra's already finalized the divorce, she's taken her belongings, and he no longer feels welcome at his own work due to the shunning gaze of his peers.

So in a VERY impulsive decision Gale travels across the country to move to Gum's state, finding a nice place to live that will accommodate him and his cat's needs, and gets the job transfer. He's trying not to get his hopes up, this mysterious stranger barely posts online and might not remember him, but Gale HAS to try. It's suffocating him.

Once he's moved in he reaches out to Gum and lets him know he's in the gith's neck of the woods. Wants to know if they'd like to meet for a meal 'for old times sake'. The reality that he divorced his wife and moved across country to meet a stranger is hitting him hard, but he's ecstatic when Gum answers and they exchange phone numbers to work out the logistics. Gale insists on meeting Gum at his place, even tho Gum tries to convince Gale to meet him at the restaurant.

Gale arrives and Gum doesn't answer the door to the run down apartment, instead he's met with a shorter female gith he comes to know is Lae'zel. She informs Gale that Gum's not home from his shift yet, but he can come inside. This is where Gale sees that Astarion, an elven vampire, is also living here. He makes small talk, immediately hit with jabbing comments from the two of them but he takes it in jest. He absolutely understands how crazy this all seems and he hasn't even told Gum he's moved to the area- just that he was visiting.

Before Astarion can make some scalding comments about Gale's tan where the ghost of a wedding ring once sat, Gum comes home and is shocked to find Gale and the others talking. He asks a moment if he can shower before the leave, feeling ripe from working with the soon to be deceased. Before Gum leaves the room he gives Astarion and Lae'zel a warning look, one they both completely ignore and continue playing twenty questions with their new prey.

Gale offers to take Gum to a fancy restaurant but instead Gum insists on taking him to a B rated hole in the wall place instead. It's crowded, it's loud, but the food is nothing like Gale's ever had before. He's eating skewers of meat with his hands, they have lively conversation, and finally it gets to the point where Gale wants to start probing on what Gum's situation really is.

He finds out that Gum is in an open situationship with Astarion, as he's his primary source of blood, but they haven't been intimate in several years. Lae'zel is another ex of his, but they've realized that while they but heads they work great as friends. Since rent is so expensive, the three decided to go in together on a larger apartment even if it's leaky and they're just barely scraping by. Gale tells Gum about his ex wife, leaving out her name, and comes to find out that Gum is actually familiar with the school Gale and Mystra both worked at. He's been taking online night classes there on a scholarship to try and get out of his dead end job.

After a few dates they decide to take things slow. Gale starts inviting him over more, Gum also inviting Gale to his apartment as well. They have conflicting work schedules but they make time for one another. It brings Gale such joy to cook and care for Gum and his roommates when he visits. Soon lae'zel and Astarion start becoming Gale's acquaintances and friends as well, introducing him into their circle: Shadowheart, Karlach and Wyll. Eventually Gale makes two friends at his job: Halsin and Minthara, but also a rivalry with another colleague Loroakan.

One day while Gale is at Gum's place cooking him breakfast, he happens to peak over and see that Gum's in an online lesson with who else but Mystra running the class. Immediately he burns his hand, breaks something, drawing attention both from Gum and the professor on the screen. Mystra, ever cold and professional, simply tells Gum to mute his mic and turn off his camera and that he can review the lesson from the recording later but not to distract the class. Afterwards, Gum is very much like "what the fuck is wrong with you" to Gale while patching up his hand and it comes out that, oh, this is your ex. The one that you have a shitty tattoo for.

Gale takes it upon himself to reach out to Mystra and ask that Gum not be penalized or docked points bc of his distraction, to which she simply states she had no such intention unless it happens again. Relieved that Gum isn't getting negative treatment on his account, Gale feels a little lighter even if it is weird that his new partner is studying under his ex wife.

Astarion delights in this news TERRIBLY and has found new hobby in reading Gale relentlessly for it. Lae'zel could care less but jokingly offers that she "knows a guy" if he "needs to hide a body."

honestly i started this blog recently and i've been trying not to compare the numbers but sometimes i get discouraged, you know? like, i AM doing it for the art (i knew day 3 was not gonna get a lot of love) but i'm posting it bc it makes me happy to see people enjoying it.

i'm trying to be more critical of my own writing, fix things i don't like about it, and sometimes i need a reminder that it's still worthwhile and enjoyable to read even when i feel like it could have been better.

I've been writing like? All 10 of the Heatwave prompts concurrently, and while it means I have all of them drafted and partly written rn, it also means I switch between them a lot.

Inevitably I start to kinda. Lose the plot sometimes of a scene I'm trying to write skdfhglsdhg like the intro to the Yuta fic was SOOOO long actually and it was rambling about social phenomena with alphas, basically the omegaverse version of red pill dudes LMAOOO

and that was also supposed to lead in to like. the idea of what a REAL alpha is. the non-gendered values of leadership, protectiveness, and actually being sensitive to the thoughts and feelings of people around them (a crucial trait for someone in a leadership position).

and yuta fits those things SO WELL. he is CONSTANTLY worried about the people around them, how they feel and what they think. he admires the shit out of his classmates who like, tried to attack him when they first met fghskjdfgh. he wants to protect them but he never looks down on them.

later in the manga we see that yuta's consideration and empathy isn't just for his classmates. he cares a lot even for people who are very capable of protecting themselves - he cares about their feelings.

so i just knew like. yuta and tsundere reader. yuta who can see though your fussiness because he's always been perceptive.

yuta who thinks you're hot bc he has a constant boner for strong women but also has a deep yearning to see you be honest and vulnerable with him, and goes feral for it.

yuta who you can be vulnerable with because you know him and his gentle smile, his kind words, how he looks up to you even though he's a special grade and stronger than you'll ever be,, hhhh....

Hmm I’ve had ocs in the past and I’ve wondered why I picked and chose favorites among the cast I made and I thjnk for the ones I didn’t gaf about it was because I was forcing myself to make characters filling space because I thought it would make my story look more complete but it just ended up I neglected those ocs because I found nothing about them fun or compelling to spend time on.

With casey I’ve definitely gone full self indulgence which was probably helped by the fact her concept was literally based on a joke self insert character so the fuel for me spending time with her was my intense fixation on booster gold and how much I wanted to destroy hurt kill bite kill punch to death kick kill him 😀

Make things fun for yourself! Don’t shy away from making things that you know you’re already crazy for … I’m not shy about saying casey as a concept is a culmination of a LOT of favorite characters I’ve had in the past like peridot (su), the invader zim and tak storyline, Daffy Duck .. to name a few!

And I spent a long time perfecting her design so that it was fun to draw for me …. I made her a secretary/office lady type character cuz um. I THINK THEYRE HOT? LOL … and I really like that fashion style I draw her in. So my number 1 advice in conceptualizing ocs is to make things fun for yourself. Are your favorite charaxters always mad scientists.. you can make one. Do you think rubber aprons are hot. You can give them one. Have you been struggling with your gender identity. You can make your oc a girl with he him probouns. Do you wish columbo was a lesbian.. you can make it happen.

As for development, as soon as I got the basic deets for casey and her role in the story I had for her to paper I found one of those tumbrl oc ask games and just filled out every single question for her. A lot of stuff was made up on the spot but just felt right and most often stuck that way but there’s no shame in making little changes as your oc grows on you and you get better aquatinted with eachother. For example I had the idea initially casey would have rich/well off and well meaning parents who were extremely normal and loved her a lot and it would be kind of a meet the robinsons “THEY ALL HATED ME” dynamic. But I quickly changed it as I thought more about casey because what I have with her and spider feels more.. fitting.

It also helps a ton if you have a friend willing to lend an ear :) and I don’t mean just 50+ messages discord chats (because those are extremely enlightening too) but I mean just posting and posting and posting about your little guy and getting those precious 4 likes on your lore document. I always take this sort of approach with original stuff LOL IF I POST ABOUT CASEY LIKE A LUNATIC FOREVER EVENTUALLY ILL TRICK EVERYONE INTO THINKING THEYRE CASEY FANS…!!!

Ya sure no problem! i love talking abt my gender (and sexuality) just in case it reaches someone whos been having trouble finding the words for themself!!

so like, i describe it to people like this usually; my gender is like a watch with two hands! instead of numbers it has like a spectrum of genders around the face. One hand is always pointed to boy'o'clock, and the other one kinda changes depending on the day/time/my mood, ect. I usually base my presentation for the day on the intersection of the two genders (boy/???) im feeling! But the second hand can also point at boy too! (this is when i feel a lot of dysphoria, but i also like to joke about it being my DOUBLE BOY TIME)

How i feel gender in general is kinda like.... i think about it more as like, what i want to be, as opposed to what i intrinsically am, because i find the latter concept vague and confusing. So i always want to be perceived as a boy, but other genders sound fun too sometimes! Like for example, when the second hand points at 'agender', i feel more disconnected from the concept of gender in general, but id still prefer people with a binary mindset look at me and think 'boy'. but even when the second hand points at 'girl', id still feel dysphoric about not being recognized as a trans guy, because thats what i want to be, even if im feeling like a girl at the time.

also i would like to point out that i identify more with terms like boy/guy/dude than man, just because 'man' feels, to me, like something that requires a right of passage to attain and i dont think ive done that yet (this is not, in actuality or to me, a universal requirement, just probably a thing for myself. idk)

I think Marxism is pretty pog, I'm by no means an expert but I am very politically active where I live. I grew up poor with my 2 siblings & my single disabled mum, we are ex-Jehovahs Witnesses (yes thats important). This has shaped a lot of my world view, I align myself with the marginalised & working class people of the world. I am heavily critical of capitalism, liberalism, nationalism & imperialism. If you have a problem with commies or anarchists, you probably won't like me. I hate fascists & I hate cops. I love my community tho & working together with anyone who wants to work toward a better world.

I am moderately able-bodied, but have mental disabilities. I don't wanna share all but I have autism, C-PTSD & chronic fatigue among many other things. I am a system, I hate syscourse, endo systems are welcome here, ableists demanding medical history are not.
