Recently I have been reading into Biopower and Biopolitics which finds its origins in Foucault. Agamben's "Homo Sacer" has been extremely interesting, especially because I wish to do some more research in Disability Studies. I am looking forward to reading Lennard J Davis.

∼ Late August ∼ Study update
I thought the next update would be in September, but I woke up today and I saw in my email box a positive review of my first scientific paper to be published, hurray! It is also pleasing to think that it was written by a professor who is an authority in the field of popular culture and visual arts.
I’ll leave a fragment here so I can come back to it more often 🧡
One of the more interesting research achievements [!] proposed in the forthcoming publication is "Changing stereotypes as a method of creatively using the image of a woman in advertising" by [my name]. Thanks to the rich and interesting literature on the subject, the Author competently [!] presents the issue of creativity in advertising, achieved through the transformation of stereotypes.
The second joyful achievement is that I have completed the design of a large research study. All that remains is to submit it at the end of September and wait for the approval review.
Fingers crossed and at this stage it seems like it makes sense to open the champagne, right?

🌧 my study and daily reflections☕
Tumblr media
☕ When I reconnected with my friend from my old uni last year, I was still in postgraduate school and feeling overwhelmed by my dissertation. I hadn't been writing consistently, and my motivation had dwindled. My friend, who happens to be a PhD researcher, shared some valuable advice with me. She suggested incorporating writing into my daily routine, starting right after waking up. Just like brushing your teeth is an instinctive action, she encouraged me to make writing a dissertation a natural part of that routine. Although it might be challenging initially, she assured me that it would gradually become easier. And she was right. I successfully passed my dissertation with a merit. So, I decided to apply this approach to my current study schedule as well.
☕ Random motivational quotes have personally been helpful to me, even if they may seem cliché. They truly made a difference in keeping me motivated. I make notes with these quotes and place them on my desk, so I'm reminded to stay focused on my progress every time I sit down to work.
☕ Studying helps me with depression. In a way, studying is kind of an escape for me, keeping me distracted from depression, but in a good way. I've noticed that I feel less and less depressed when I'm studying.
☕ Tidying up my desk before I go to bed and always ensuring that the kitchen looks tidy, including keeping the sink empty and washing dishes. Makes me feel motivated to prepare delicious food and make a cup of coffee before diving into my study time. It's exactly what I've been doing.

Candace Owens was working at HR at my new job. She gave me a saliva drug test and it came back positive. She decided it looked like a false positive and that it didn't matter. She then congratulated me on having a master's degree. I don't have a master's degree.

if someone who earns a PhD likes being called "Doctor," why don't we call people who earn an MA / MFA "Master"?

tomorrow I go back to class for my second year at university !! I'm so excited !! also happy october everybody! (vent about masters applications below:)
but I know that it's going to get REAL very quickly bc I'm already overwhelmed by my workload... in addition to normal uni work, I will also be attending virtual uni open days as this time next year I will be submitting my masters applications......... what?????? ive already started to narrow down my options and do a lot of research bc I know that now and the Christmas break are the only times that I'll have to do this before I have to start writing the applications???? bc I'll be too busy during term and the summer to even think about thinking about thoughts like ?? WHAT??? I was a fresher two minutes ago and now I'm booking postgrad open days like hello???? what???? but I can't say I don't love it because it's soooopo exciting and I love my subject. I'm also aiming more ambitiously in terms of the universities I'll be applying for (will have safeties ofc) so that's VERY motivating. so yeah !! eeeee!!!!!

📮 what i learnt in first semester of my master's degree in english literature 📮
friendo, here is what you need to remember for the upcoming months! (also this is applicable to literally any degree you're doing, ive just written it down recently)
put in work. put a lot of effort from your side and it'll be worth it. it'll show, I promise
ask for feedback!!!! ASK FOR FEEDBACK!! it's OK if the profs tear you part (they generally won't!) but keep asking: what could I have done better?
do more grunt work in the beginning: summaries, about the authors, about the eras — it'll save you a lot of time
write practice or mock tests and study using previous year question papers too. write the answers down.
buy/borrow/print all the books you need. ALL OF THEM!!
doing is the most difficult part. the act of actually studying and reading and writing is the most difficult part
but it'll also be the most fun part!
there are 2 kinds of uncomfortable: painful and non-painful. always choose the non-painful uncomfortable option!
when studying historical background, have some examples from the books of that Era as "proof"
doing my best = working towards retaining whatever you need to for how much ever long you need to (I.e for the exam) (didi gave me this definition and im so relieved)
it's not smart work OR hard work, it's smart work AND hard work
these are also things I struggled with. I struggled to define what im having trouble doing (point 6), what is "doing my best" (point 10), if all my studying/reading of books was me being a dumbass who doesn't know smart work (points 1 and 11)
I've literally copy-posted these from my notes because I thought this might help someone out? if nothing, here's my contribution to the studyblr lol

Another Master’s Degree project! In which I took my intentionally vague and brief descriptions of Munch and Abe from Oddworld and redesigned them from scratch as whole new creatures, throwing out all knowledge I had about them previously! I might keep them nyehehehe
