Apart from, you know, everything else, what bugs me about the present glut of superhero multiverse media is that it's mostly being used to endlessly serialise microscopic variations on the same tiny handful of brandworthy characters, when the whole reason superhero comics adopted the multiverse conceit in the first place is to facilitate the dumbest fucking crossovers imaginable. Like, yeah, teaming up five different Spiders-Men is fun and all, but I want to see Archie vs. the Punisher adapted for the big screen. I want to see the Martian Manhunter fight Godzilla. I want Blade to team up with Donald Duck.

Dear everyone, I decided that the more the merrier, so not only I’m going to recruit two more villains but also extra 9 more! Which makes 11 villains to recruit. Spoilers for Worm/Ward, K6BD, and Across the Spiderverse

I was just reading an analysis on how multiverses allow narratives to use the tools of postmodernism to build a new sincere moral, and I realized, Worm and Kill 6 Billion Demons do that too, but not with traditional multiverses.

And so I'd like to posit that the Entity Cycle in Worm counts as a multiverses in that it's a tool the narrative uses to highlight its themes and show that the patterns and villains the protagonist is fighting are so hard to win against that the traditional ways of fighting them have failed.

And then I'd posit that the Resetting of the Wheel in K6BD is also the same thing. Just like how the Entities do the same cycle over and over again, with alien races failing to overcome them, Zoss resets the timeline whenever his chosen heir fails to save the day.

And these are just the same as the stable narrative dealies in Across thr Spiderverse.

So now we have a class of protagonist that are very interesting to compare and contrast:

Taylor Hebert/Victoria Dallon (because Worm and Ward are in conversation with each other)

Miles Morales

One of the biggest differences between these protagonists is their relationship to the cycle they're trying to break, or specifically to the force keeping it as a cycle.

In Worm and Ward, the Entities are enforcing the cycle. As avatars of conflict and desparation, they are the source of the cycle. Stop them, and the cycle stops.

In K6BD, Zoss controls the time loops, and started reality down it's path to destruction, but does not want it to continue. The cycle is his search for a solution.

In Across the Spiderverse, set narrative points seem to be written into reality, while Miguel O'Hara leads the Spider Society to enforce it. In Morales's story, breaking the cycle only seems to make things worse, so he needs to fight Society while searching for a solution.

Which is just very cool. I think these stories come from a frustration that we seem capable of seeing the problems with society but incapable of changing them. Our protagonists then do what we wish we could. But what I didn't realize before is that this metaphor is both a time loop (where the story takes place within a single loop) and a multiverse.

What is your character's "in every universe..."

Like, what is the common thread to every time they find that special someone, an enemy, a friend, a lover, just someone.

Ex. "In every universe, I will always look for you,"

"In all timelines.. In all possibilities, only you can show me this"

"In every other universe Gwen Stacy falls for Spider-Man and in every other universe it doesn't end well"

Chloé Bourgeois is bad in so many dimensions. However there is one where she was once bad, and clawed her own way alone to a 'mostly' reformed state.

When Max discovers multiverse theory in that dimension (for observation purposes only of course!) She discovers how much of an anomaly she is.

She then proceeds to steal the rooster miraculous and dive into the multiverses. She knows it won't be easy changing her other selves, but she'll save as many as she can. Someone has to.

What’s really disappointing about Multiverses shutting down is we will lose all the interactions between those characters not that it did much with those characters. Sure we got one comic but it was way too dc focused.

I wanted to see stuff like Superman taking to Steven about balancing their human and alien heritage. Arya amazed on how great a sword fighter Finn is. Rick and Bugs breaking the fourth wall together. Shaggy trying Jake’s amazing cooking. Taz and Stripe tearing up a place together. Dianna and Garnet being amazing friends.
