Quick history lesson about how the very same police squads that are killing North African and Black men in France originate from a police squad meant against Algerians especially.

In 1923 an Algerian man is accused of killing two people. The medias make into a huge thing and claim that he did that because he is Algerian and that Algerians are dangerous. Because you know the countless white murderers were individuals but an Algerian alleged murderer has to represent ALL Algerians.

As an answer in 1925 the government decide to create the “BNA” la Brigade Nord-Africaine (The North African Squad) Their job is to control Algerians specifically (1), excessive identity check, excessive surveillance… they pressure employers into firing Algerian workers. Their goals is to make Algerians live Hell on earth and they their methods are illegal but they are left alone by the government. Almost all of the cops in said squad are white colonizers who used to work in the French police in Algeria to be sure they won’t see Algerians as humans.

WW2 starts and then the Nazis occupy France. This squad collaborate with the Nazis (2). WW2 ends and you know the fact that the squad collaborated with the Nazis added to white communists (white French communists used to be allies I know it’s crazy given how they behave nowadays) being like “you do realize that we just fought the Nazis we cannot have an anti Algerian police and pretend to be different from them” the BNA comes to an end in 1945. Algerians are still targeted by the police by there’s no squad dedicated to this.

1953 comes. On July 14th Algerians protest alongside white French communists. Asking for the independence. 6 Algerians and one communist are killed by the police. The government create the BAV “anti violence squad” their job is the same as the BNA but more violent and this time they pretend that their targets are not Algerians but all violent people and it’s not their fault if Algerians are violent. They target specifically Algerians who want the independence and equal rights. It’s dissolved in 1962 after the independence of Algeria (3).

1971. The prefect of Seine Saint Denis (the department with the most diversity in France and back then it was mostly Algerians) create the BAC “anti violence squad” to replace the BAV. The prefect is a senior official who did most of his work in the colonies and in 1967 he was responsible of the death of 100 people (majority of them Black) killed in Guadeloupe during a protest. At first the BAC only work in that department but then it extended to all of France or rather all of the neighborhoods with North African and Black people.

The BAC still exist and they are the one doing most of the killing and beating up against young men of color today.

The police is racist because of its history they were created to control colonial subjects and they see us as colonial subjects of the interior not as equal citizens. That’s why I talk about French colonialism because the current racism in France exist because they refuse to acknowledge what they did and they refuse to try and fix things.

One day I’ll talk about la Police Nationale and how it was created… spoiler alert it happened under Nazis occupations and French Nazis helped creating it.

(1) Despite its name the targets were not North Africans in general but Algerians specifically. There’s disgusting articles written before the independence and still available on Le Monde calling Algerians savages and dangerous. One of those articles regret the end of the BNA because “There’s a problem with North African violence” and say “When we say North African you have to understand Algerian. The Moroccan and the Tunisian stay in his country. He is a good established settled worker.” Before saying that the problem is that Algerians were given rights after WW2.

(2) For the record if you don’t know the history of the squad the name let people believe that it was a police squad with North African cops not that it was an anti North African squad. To these days some people say “the North African squad collaborated with Nazis” as a way to imply that Algerians were pro Nazis. Meanwhile historically the people who collaborated with the Nazis learned all they needed to know about oppressing a minority by doing it against Algerians. But we’re not supposed to talk about the overlap between white colonizers with leading position in Algeria and Nazis collaborators.

(3): They really think we are stupid they created it to replace the BNA after a protest for the independence of Algeria, dissolved it after the independence, but to these days they deny it was an anti Algerian police.

There's an old adage that goes like this: "If there’s a Nazi at the table, and ten other people are sitting at the table talking to them, then you have a table with eleven Nazis."

But let's take it further. Let's add a twelfth person. Let's say that the twelfth person wants to remove the Nazi from the table. They are against the Nazi.

The ten do not like that the twelfth wants to get rid of the Nazi. They think that casting out the Nazi would be rude, or would set a bad precedent, and that is an uncomfortable thing to worry about at a polite table like theirs. So the ten say 'the Nazi has as much right to sit at the table as you or I.'

The Nazi does not change. They are a Nazi.

So the twelfth person leaves.

When another person comes, there is a ten in twelve chance that they will be neutral. There is a one in twelve chance that they'll be good. And there's a one in twelve chance that they'll be a Nazi. And there's already a Nazi at the table, and there are ten people who are fine with that.

Policing in the North had its start in defending the property of shopkeepers and the wealthy. Policing in the South had its start in catching runaway slaves.

The people who joined those initial groups were not interested looking out for the public good. They were interested in a job that let them hit people professionally. That is the soil that the culture of police grew up in, and that fell soil birthed a fell plant, which has born fell fruits.

True, more duties have been given to the police over time, but the old guard never left, and was never discounted, so they were able to pass on what they knew to the young bucks, and the cycle continued.

That is why, nowadays, there are no good cops. There are bad cops, and there are cops who do nothing when bad cops do bad things.

40% of cops are domestic abusers. That is not a question, nor is it a debate. It is a fact. It also means that we can assume that 40% of cops are bad cops, because domestic abuse is a bad thing, and the people who do it are bad people. That is also not up for debate, no matter the abusers' reasons or rationales.

Let's be generous and assume that the other 60% of cops aren't domestic abusers. Let's call them neutral cops.

Of that 60%, let's say that there really are a few good cops. They have heard about what police are expected to do now, and truly wish to serve the public good.

These good cops do not last long. They report the bad cops, because they are doing bad things. But reports mean accountability, and accountability upsets the apple cart, and upset apple carts are unpleasant to be in, if you are a neutral person. Besides, this is a polite table.

So the good cops leave, or are forced out, and the young bucks become the old guard, and they teach the next generation what they learned from their elders, and the fell soil police culture grows in does not change, and the cycle continues.

This week alone saw Atlanta-area raids by law enforcement that took a woman out of her house with no shirt, left a naked photo of another woman on display after ransacking a room and dragged a man by his hair – while arresting none of them.

The pre-dawn raids on three houses on Thursday were the third Swat-style operation in residential areas of Atlanta and nearby unincorporated DeKalb county tied to a movement that began in 2021 – and the first in which the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) played a prominent role.

The fight against Cop City has attracted national and global headlines, especially after police shot and killed one environmental protester at a campsite in a public park – the first such incident of its kind in US history. At least one of the search warrants for Thursday’s raid seen by the Guardian authorized the FBI to confiscate dozens of items from the raided homes – including laptops, cellphones, “Defend the Atlanta Forest” stickers and posters and personal journals. The operation came after weeks of Atlanta officials promoting a campaign to catch activists linked to arson against construction and police equipment, all the while activists have been committing more acts of sabotage, alternating with nonviolent, civil disobedience.

J decker is so fun an silly BUT SOMETHING about their world building makes me feel things.

You see, if you are a Cybertronian you are alive. It's unquestioned. You have a free will. You have a soul. And the most important part - you and everyone are know about that. Most of the time at least.

But in the world of J decker?

These robots aren't aliens. They were created by humans. And - importantly - for humans. The have no more rights than fucking chat GPT.....

The show is like haha look funny robits silly humans and you have so much fun looking at them, yeah.

But then one of those robots making a mistake in front of a wrong human? Or slightly questionable behavior? Or expressing any basic sense of self preservation??? Like the DESIRE NOT TO DIE??

And humans are instantly like...

HOW DARE YOU TO BE SOMETHING MORE THAN A USEFUL TOOL??

You see. In the transformers shows - robots are basically friends with humans. Or enemies. They are equals.

In the Brave police j decker - they are ..like....slaves???

Sure, main characters lucky enough to have a human friends who cares about them. And those human friends treating them pretty well. Yes. But golden cage is still a fucking cage. They live to serve. And the moment they don't serve - they die.

Humans can torture them, brake them, erase or rewrite their whole memory. Humans can literally order them to go and die. Humans can do anything they want without any punishment because ~oh well~ these bots aren't people. They're shiny pretty tools. Police property.

My interest in this show is so ahhhhhhhhh

There's a character whose whole personality memory and identity people were going to completely erase. Simply because he had outlived his usefulness. He hadn't even done anything wrong.

There's also a character who isn't allowed to experience or show any negative emotions because his human master wants a perfect noble shiny hero without tiniest bit of evil thoughts. He absolutely can feel bad emotions. He's just not allowed to. Because they fucking...ordered him??

I don't know how this show ends yet. But I'm so fucking invested it's gggghhhhhhh,,,,,,,,
