have you ever see a show/game/movie/book and you like it but you don’t want to get into the fandom cause you have very unpopular opinions that would basically rain hell and bite you on the ass?

that’s how I am with the tmnt fandom when I say I think leosagi is problematic now lemme explain on this

now just note I’m not in the tmnt fandom due to the problematic nature it has but I do like tmnt (my most favorite is the 2007 verison) but I am in the usagi yojimbo fandom and been trying to read the comics online and this is just my opinion cause I know I won’t change others minds I just like to express my opinions over the internet cause why not

but it basically frustrates me when I go to look up usagi content everyone is talking about shipping him with the turtles kinda gives me a ick

Especially since in the title teenage mutant ninja turtles there is teenage in the first sentence and the turtles always been told they were teenagers

and usagi is canonically said to be in his late 20s to early 30s now before you say “but 2003 usagi is a teenager” or something like now for 1 it does not say that anywhere I checked myself and it’s nowhere seen

And plus the main comics literally start as him being a adult and he acts like a adult in the adaptions I personally see 2003 usagi being a father figure or a older brother to Leo due to how they interact

now don’t think this is the only unpopular ship opinion I have I mean I shittalk about like shadowpeach in the past

so yeah basically

it’s hard to join fandoms without being attack for a opinion you have (it’s honestly personally why I don’t interact with fandoms most of the time people start to act like people in mental asylums some worse then others (COUGH COUGH GENSHIN IMPACT COUGH COUGH)

So what’s the lesson here?

don’t be a dick to people who have different opinions and if your scared to interact with the fandom due to opinions don’t if you like the franchise then be happy do what you do

I've been and I currently am in many fandoms and I love interacting with other fans but BY THE GODS the Alien Stage fandom is probably one of the worst because people seem so... illiterate?? In a sense that they can't comprehend characters and actions without having a "black and white" "good and bad" perspective

This is probably because ALNST is a "new" web series born in the Tiktok era where everyone in fandoms seems to be braindead (I blame americans for that, as always, especially teenagers who go around thinking they are some kind of moral police just because they have religious trauma or whatever and need to project their beliefs in others)

But yeah, in the ALNST fandom they can only go "Ivan bad bc kiss and choke Till bad" "Luka bad bc manipulate others bad" when literally THE ALIENS are the reason for all of this and why some characters were forced to act in a certain way (all the time they spend hating on those two characters can be spent hating on the aliens but no)

They are in a life or death competition created by the aliens where they only want to survive or save the opponent and you think the things they do on that deathly stage are THE WORST THINGS??

All the things Luka has done, Ivan's actions while sacrificing himself, Sua's sacrifice, Till's actions, Hyuna's words, Mizi's whole character's point are WAY DEEPER AND MORE COMPLICATED THAN "BAD" "GOOD" "PROBLEMATIC" "TOXIC" OR ANY OTHER WORD YOU LOVE USING JUST TO EXPOSE YOUR INABILITY TO HAVE A CRITICAL THOUGHT ON A MEDIA YOU CONSUME

First off. You completely took what I said out of context. Just because "bad friend Scott" is common for OTHER people to read doesn't change the fact IM "switching up" what I usually read. Because it isn't common for ME. I've only read 1 (and I am trying to find it again too).

You have no say in how I "switch up" what tags I do or don't read just from your dislike of it. I've read plenty of everyone else being bad friends with redemptions and character growth. Including Stiles (which I've already said). Including both Scott AND Stiles working on themselves and their friendship. I have yet to read more than 1 about only Scott.

While I understand it is a serious topic and a rather repulsive reason for other people to desire a "bad Scott", there was no reason to bring Scott's race into this specific discussion, as it is irrelevant to what stories I look for. Idc what Scott's race is or isn't. It has no connection or effect on me loving him as a character. He's a great character. There is absolutely no serious reason for you to take what I said and flip it to a negative rant toward Stiles in defense of Scott nor with the assumption of favoritism just because of OTHER peoples behavior. I have loved Stiles and Scott equally from the start.

You're overreacting about my trying out a new topic/tag to read through assumptions + your distaste of Stiles's growth (or lack thereof) in canon.

I understand and respect that you're upset about Stiles's lack of growth in canon, but it has nothing to do with what fanfiction I'm trying out (which is what started this discussion in the first place).

Please don't assume how I feel toward characters just because of fanfiction.

@wickedacefae what I don't get is why you believe that making Scott the bad friend is switching it up? Due to racism in teen wolf fandom, it's unfortunately far too common to find 'bad friend Scott McCall fic' no matter how little sense it makes with canon.

Look up the numbers, if you want to 'switch it up' then the best way to get drama would be to make Stiles the 'bad friend', who needs to make it up to Scott

Because those kind of fics are incredibly rare, and with how little character growth Stiles got in canon, it would be nice to see a fic, where he actually grows up and matures for a change.

You know, where Stiles is actually held accountable for his actions and behavior, and has to learn from it. It's the one thing most missing from the show, since imho Stiles was the most static character with the least character growth of all the main cast of the show.

Everyone else got to grow up, mature, learn from their mistakes. Characters like Scott, Lydia, Derek, Allison, Malia, Liam... all of them got to grow up and mature. They got their mistakes acknowledged and then had to come to face with them, and learn from them. Almost all of Teen Wolf's characters got that growth. All except for Stiles. (Well Peter too, but Peter's a villain, so his lack of growth is part of what made him a villain in the first place)

Big part of the problem is that Stiles' fans already reacted badly when they dared to give him even some minor growth in s4 by having him get over Lydia and move on.

Imagine how much better his story arc would have been if after 5a he'd been called out on his treatment of Scott, and how he betrayed the pack to Theo. If his insecurity and lack of faith in Scott and the others love for him had actually been dealt with.

But because Stiles was the fanfave, and his fans didn't want him to change, Stiles never got that. And for me personally, that just made him less interesting as a character.
