A Celebration of Robin Oliveria

Now, several of you will likely recognize the name Robin Oliveria. This may be because she's a wonderful local author, or because we've had the honor of hosting her several times, or because you're a lover of historical fiction. However it is that you know her, she'll be here at Island Books once again on Thursday, February 15 from 6:30 to 7:30, to celebrate the release of her newest book, A Wild and Heavenly Place! We are always excited to welcome friends and supporters of the store who happen to be amazing local authors as well *wink*, and love having them for book signings and Q&As.

A Wild and Heavenly Place is a historical fiction that begins in Glasgow, Scotland with the happenstance meeting of two individuals from very different walks of life. Hailey MacIntyre, the daughter of a rich banker, has everything. Samuel Fiddes, on the other hand, is raising his sister in the tenements of Glasgow while trying to survive. But when Samuel saves Hailey's younger brother from a runaway carriage, their lives become intertwined. When Hailey's father impulsively moves them across the world to the burgeoning coal town of Seattle after the City of Glasgow Bank fails in 1878, Samuel follows. As they try to make a life for themselves in this unfamiliar place, their roles reverse and they have to deal with the many challenges that come from living in a rough frontier town. Full of Seattle history and featuring Newcastle and the San Juan Islands, this is a book I can't wait to read!

Book Review 34/60

My Name is Mary Sutter by Robin Oliveira

So first didn't read the subtitle (a novel), thought this was going to be a nonfiction history book, it wasn't (it's historical fiction), that's on me.

But uh. Chapter 2 is infodumping on family history so heavy that I was 100% convinced Mary Sutter was a real person right up until I finished the book and googled her (she isn't). The whole book is in extremely awkward conflict between infodumping on her OCs' backstories a la a history book and actually telling any sort of narrative, and I have no idea why the editor didn't take an axe to the whole thing.

Also: Only a tiny fraction of it is actually on the purported topic--nursing during the American Civil War. Jesus fuck.

SIVASSPOR UZATMADA YIKILDI

Yiğidolar evınde Galatasarayı Spor Toto Süper Lig'in 16. haftasında konuk etti  Sıvassporda üst arka adalesinde gerilme ve ödem oluşan Max Gradel  ve Kasımpaşa maçında sakatlanan   Aaron Appindangoye  ve samba camara  maç  kadrosuna  bile alınmadı konuk ekip tam kadro geldı Sıvasa.

Sivasspor ile karşı karşıya gelen Cim bom  Sivas 4 Eylül Stadyumu'nda müsabakayı    hakem Erkan Özdamar yönetti ama bir rezaletti resmen Sıvassporu katletti..

Sivas'ta  Galatasaray ile oynanan lig maçlarında yiğidoların üstünlüğü bulunuyor Sivas'ta yapılan 16 maçın 6'sını   Sivasspor, 5'ini de Galatasaray kazandı. 5 karşılaşma ise berabere bitmiştı şimdi dengelendi .

Sivasspor  Ali Şaşal Vural, Robin  , Goutas, Caner Osmanpaşa, Uğur Çiftçi, Ulvestad   , Keita, Ahmed Musa sonra  N'Jie , Dia Saba yerıne  Hakan Arslan , Erdoğan Yeşilyurt ve Yatabare ile görev yaptı yiğidolar.

Galatasaray da haftalar sonra kalede  Muslera, Boey, Nelsson, Abdülkerim Bardakcı, Van Aanholt sonra  Dubois  , Oliveira yerine  Midtsjö , Berkan Kutlu, Rashica , Mertens, Kerem Aktürkoğlu , Gomis  ve yerine son dakikalarda  Barış Alper Yılmaz girdi.

Maça başlayan ve atak yapan  konuk ekip oldu Galatasaray devre ortalarında  öne geçti. Boey'in içeriye çevirdiği topu düzgün bir vuruşla ağlara gönderen Mertens, takımı öne geçirdi.

Sarı-kırmızılılar ardından  ikinci golüne çok yaklaştı. Mertens'in müthiş pasında topla buluşan Kerem, Gomis'i buldu. Gomis topu ağlara göndermek istedi ancak Goutas çizgi üzerinde yaptığı müdahaleyle mutlak gole engel oldu bu gol olaydı maç farklı biterdi

İkinci yarıda Sivasspor öyle hızlı girdiki    Sivasspor, da Ulvestad ile ağları havalandırdı. VAR'dan gelen uyarının ardından pozisyonu izleyen Erkan Özdamar, golü iptal etti bir hakem hatasıydı hiçbir şey yoktu .

Sivasspor çok baskı yaptı ve  Erdoğan Yeşilyurt ile beraberliği yakaladı. Dia Saba'nın müthiş pasında savunmanın arkasına sarkan Erdoğan, skoru dengeye  getirdi.

Maç nerdeyse ceyrek dakika uzadı oyuna sonradan giren  Barış Alper Yılmaz sahneye çıktı. Abdülkerim'in müthiş pasında savunmanın arkasına sarkan Barış Alper Yılmaz, takımına galibiyeti getirdi  yiğidoda defans hatası vardı . 

Sivasspor'da    kötü haberde haftaya Erdoğan Yeşilyurt,     yaptığı faulün ardından iki sarıdan kırmızı  kartı görmesi ve   birde saba sarı kart cezalısı oldu bu da bizi üzdü  haftaya iki kayıp sıvassporu zor duruma sokacaktır.
