the good life essentials: the ultimate guide to getting what you want 💭



for so long i always felt a sense of struggle when it came to my achievements. i could reach my goals but it always felt so hard, and it usually came paired with periods of burn out and malaise. then i found out why: i was often neglecting foundational needs, living in chaos and not taking proper care of myself, and trying to zoom straight to big-picture achievements.
below is my ultimate guide to 'the good life'. the more balance you can achieve in each category, the easier and more pleasurable it becomes to reach your goals. you will still have to stretch yourself and explore beyond your limits... but it should feel relatively nice because you are supported by a nourishing lifestyle.
you deserve a beautiful, healthy, passion-filled life. here's how you get it:
01. your foundation: the essentials
physical health: create nourishing routines for sleep, exercise, and nutrition. your literal energy starts here, so if you’re trying to bring positive energy to your life and achieve success, you need foundational energy.
mental and emotional health: build resilience and develop strategies for coping with pressure and stress. take care of your mental health always, not just when you’re already spinning out.
financial stability: learn to manage your money wisely. budgeting, saving, and debt management are a must.
02. your core: connections + fulfilment
your home: whether you have just a bed, a room, an apartment, or a whole house, create a safe, comforting space to recharge and feel grounded.
strong relationships: surround yourself with supportive and meaningful connections - so much about ourselves is defined by those we are close with so choose wisely.

What comes after Ever After?
You’re looking at the new buff baker that helps man the Clover Patisserie. He’s beloved by the local housewives and school girls— His parents are getting up there in age, so Trey has taken up a bulk of the responsibilities: ordering supplies, prepping ingredients, baking, stocking, and customer service.
After hours, Trey experiments with new recipes and leftover ingredients. Sometimes he comes up with some truly awful inventions, but other times they end up working out really well. Who knew that adding oyster sauce would enhance the flavor of this bread? He calls these the “Clover Specials, Piping Hot and Fresh Off the Trey” (yes, that was a pun).
He tries to make the bakery more whimsical for the customers. Little seasonal decorations, cute little doodles on the placards that indicate what each item is, a sign that reminds folks to brush well after eating sweets, etc. (Trey claims he doesn't really care for little flourishes like this; it might just be the nostalgia of the unbirthday party days getting to him.)
If there are things that haven’t sold at the end of the day, he’ll offer them for a discount in a blind box style. You’ll never know what you’ll pull, but it’s always delicious, if not a little stale or slightly lumpy looking. Waste not, what not!
Every so often, he has nights out with his childhood friends Chenya and Riddle. Trey's responsible for bringing the snacks (he uses his friends as a test audience for his experiments), and the three spend that time drinking, sharing stories, and catching up on each others' lives.
Cater’s a social media manager and agent for various influencers. His career allows him to basically work from anywhere (which is convenient because he travels to various promotional events) and to be on his phone 24/7, monitoring stats, attending strategy meetings, and coordinating with PR teams.
Keeps up with the latest trends! He's not one of those "how do you do, fellow kids?" types though. Cater is genuinely on top of what's cool--so much so that he's sometimes contacted as a style consultant. It feels like he's got his hands in many facets of the entertainment industry.
He regularly sees a therapist (although he doesn't let any of his friends or family know) to talk through his insecurities and other darker thoughts. It's really been helping him sort out these complex emotions he's been sitting and stewing in for the longest time. He's hoping that, someday, he can reach the point where he can open up to everyone about this other side of himself.
Every now and again, the thought to text an old NRC classmate strikes him--but something keeps Cater back. Doubt, apprehension. The worst that can happen is being left on read, but to Cater the consequences feel so much worse than that. It's a huge relief to him when he gets a text out of the blue from Trey one day--an excuse to text back, to make that connection. Though it's still difficult for Cater to gather the courage to initiate another conversation, this is still a foot in the door for him, the potential start of something new.
Cater still has the Magicam accounts of his school mates. He'll sort of like... cyberstalk their pages just to keep up with their lives, to feel a sense of closeness with the people he failed to reach out to during his NRC days. When he stops to reflect on it, he really regrets his inaction--and, on some nights, he scrolls and scrolls until the dread and the loneliness lulls him into a comfortable, dreamless sleep.
It took a lot of resistance and arguing, but--much to the delight of Kifaji and his family members--Leona has (begrudgingly) taken on the role of a royal advisor to support Sunset Savanna. There were of course some growing pains, especially with Leona's callous and arrogant attitude clashing with those of the other (older, much more conservative) advisors--but for the most part, it's been a net positive.
His focus is on improving infrastructure while also conserving as much of the environment as they can. The knowledge and experience he has gained from his 4th year internship comes in handy here, and thankfully they've been able to take small but steady steps to modernize the country.
In addition to improving infrastructure, Leona has made efforts to strengthen the Sunset Savanna's soft power. He has established new schools and food banks, particularly in impoverished areas, and started magift/spelldrive teams. This has made him popular with certain groups, such as the hyena beastmen and children.
Leona loathes putting on airs, but it's a necessity when facing the public so he manages. Unfortunately, he's still in the habit of skipping meetings and ceremonies he deems unnecessary or a waste of his time, which earns him pockets of ire. He usually just shoots back with, "Yeah? So what? I'm still gettin' results, ain't I?"
Political demands? Not a problem for him. But family? That's the real pain in his tail. Cheka, now an energetic 15-year old, has not let up on bothering him one bit. Then there's also the affectionate Falena, who is trying to desperately reconnect with his estranged brother. Leona just tosses out the excuse of "being busy" to dodge the both of them.
Vil continues to be an A-list celebrity and triple threat--actor, model, and influencer. He has racked up several more leading roles since his school days, including non-traditional bad guys. Vil has been an anti-villain and sympathetic villain.
Having aged like fine wine, he was able to play the character of a father too, just like how he dreamed of as a third-year student. When Vil got the call about the role, he excitedly told his own dad about it, who was so ecstatic and joked that Vil "takes after his old man". They went out for a little father-son bonding time to celebrate, dining at a high-class establishment and having a toast to Vil's future.
It was a Big Deal when Vil was offered his first-ever hero role. Social media and news outlets were popping off about it, and Vil himself was so excited he actually squealed. To this day he still considers it a turning point in his career and one of the most fun characters he ever played. Since then, he's been getting much more diverse roles, which has really opened up the door for him to expand his skills.
Vil is also a business owner now, having several brands under him. A skincare brand, a clothing brand, a makeup brand… Despite them being celebrity owned, the products are actually high quality (Vil won’t sign his name off on subpar products) and very popular, particularly whenever his face is plastered on the marketing campaigns.
These days, he allows himself to be a little less guarded with his front-facing persona. Vil still comes off as cool and regal, but notably laughs more, smiles more, even giggles more. He has a bit of a youthful sparkle to him and talks openly about his own struggles, fears, hopes, and dreams. Fans praise him for being so much more "relatable" and honest.
Rook claims that he is a globe-trotting archeologist now, but you get the feeling that he’s not telling the full truth. What kind of archeologist carries around a belt of weirdly invasive tools on it? Are those teeny-tiny listening devices? And why is his camera (which he says is strictly for his photography hobby) loaded with shots of suspicious characters taken from a distance?
He shares all kinds of crazy stories, like about the time he swung from a vine with a family of gorillas or how he discovered a lever that revealed a roller coaster to a secret underground laboratory. “Um, are those the kinds of things an archaeologist does…?” you ask him. Rook just smiles and laughs, but doesn’t provide a clear answer.
His stealth and marksman skills have developed to a scary degree. You sometimes forget that Rook is even standing beside you, and you've witnessed him kill bugs with frightening precision with nothing more than his gloved fingers. He brushes it off as abilities he sharpened "on the job".
... In any case, whatever Rook's actual occupation is, it requires a lot of travel. He lavishes his friends with souvenirs and post cards of the loveliest sights, then babbles on and on about local attractions, culture, art, and charming hole-in-the-wall destinations. It seems like he has accumulated a lot of knowledge about Twisted Wonderland in the 10 years since you've last seen him, and he's all too eager to blab about it all.
He's become an artist, although he operates under a pen name. You'll find paintings, sculptures, or collages he has assembled in various small exhibitions, and poetry he has penned where you least expect it. Rook puts his talent out in hopes of beautifying the world.
Idia has succeeded his father as the Director of S.T.Y.X. There’s a lot riding on his shoulders, but the pressure surprisingly never really gets to him. He’s cooler, more methodical now—almost as though he were a machine himself, set so clearly on his task that he won’t budge until it is completed first. (He worries that he has become just like his downer dad 💀)
Sometimes he spirals and his nerves get the best of him. In those cases, he has to resort to the text to speech device he invented back at NRC to get through his meetings. The staff at S.T.Y.X. get used to it and are largely alright with it.
He has the habit of snacking on the job. There's chip crumbs and gummy worms scattered on his desk, which is already messy enough with important documents. (He complains that this should all be digitalized anyway!) Idia keeps even more snacks in his pockets, munching on them whenever he’s annoyed or needs to give himself something to do.
The dark circles under his eyes get way worse. With work eating up so much of his day, Idia has less free time to games and other hobbies. That just means he ends up staying up super late into the night to catch up on his dailies and to grind out events, read manga, watch anime, etc. (“Sleep is for the weak!” he insists.) It’s a miracle he can still get up in the mornings to clock in for his next shift!
Shockingly, Idia takes breaks to go outside and touch grass soak up some (artificial) sunshine. He has learned from past experience that being locked up indoors all the time isn't exactly healthy. That, and his Chief of Cybersecurity (Ortho) pesters him to put himself out there more! Sometimes Idia even awkwardly tries to converse with his coworkers around the water cooler, though that's never quite as relaxing as him just chilling by himself in some quiet corner of the Island of Woe.
Make way for the reigning king of Briar Valley! Maleficia has finally retired, passing on her title to her grandson Malleus. There was a coronation ceremony (now recognized as the holiday or Ascension in Briar Valley), which you were of course invited to as a guest. You had a seat up front and were one of the first to congratulate him right after he was officially crowned.
As a relatively young king, Malleus isn’t the perfect ruler right away. Learning about ruling is nothing close to actually ruling. He stumbles and has to adjust to the role and, most of all, he has to balance the conservative values of his country and his people with the ever-changing lands beyond his home. Not an easy task, especially when he has only just gotten used to the concept of change himself—but with the support of his like-minded retainers, Malleus knows he isn’t alone in his endeavors for a brighter tomorrow.
His power also poses another challenge. Malleus is so used to solving his issues by casting a spell or terrifying his opposition into backing down. He’s no longer in a position to do such things or to let his emotions run wild, lest he risk tearing apart his own court and driving a wedge between the valley and other countries. A leash on his temper, a regal demeanor—this is how a mature adult presents himself. The anger only truly comes out when his people are in danger or he is deeply insulted.
His top priority once he is in power is restoring the bonds that were put in jeopardy on account of his… “oopsie” in his third year at NRC. There’s still lingering distrust between him and other nations due to that incident, so Malleus makes it clear that he’s apologetic and willing to come to the table for discussion, should other countries wish. His schedule is jam-packed with meetings with foreign dignitaries.
Massive and sweeping reform is not happening—not anytime soon. No opening of the borders, no sudden introduction of new technology. There would be massive outcry and resistance from the public + senators, not to mention that Malleus himself isn’t entirely comfortable yet with the concept. However, he has put together incremental proposals and tries convince others of the benefits, implanting the seeds in the minds of the people. He’s also supportive of initiatives which promote learning and cultural exchange, such as the import of reading materials from overseas (Sebek’s idea) and has even appointed Silver as Briar Valley’s very first human ambassador.
Lilia has comfortably retired to the Land of Crimson Long. He lives in a little hut far removed from civilization, but he ventures out into the town to pick up the essentials and to play board games with the local retirees. For the most part, it’s just Lilia and the wilderness! ... Which has led to rumors of a monster haunting the forest. This, Lilia entertains in by dropping down from the trees and frightening any hooligans who come close to his territory.
Though his magical abilities have been in decline, he does his best to stay active and in shape! Lilia once snuck into a nearby military camp, disguising himself as one of the new recruits, and partook in their training with them! He even stopped to lend extra help to the recruits who seemed to be struggling the most--though he still came first place in all of their exercises and holds the record time for climbing to the top of a pole to retrieve the arrow there.
He delights in partaking in the local customs and cuisine. Lilia loves to travel to shrines and admire the temples built to honor ancestors. He lights up some incense and joins others in prayer, knowing that he, too, will one day be among the dead. Best to pay respects now! Lilia has also taken to several cups of tea (as recommended by his doctor) with his meals, and has rice porridge with sunnyside egg eyes and bacon smiles whenever he needs something comforting.
Lilia of course keeps in touch with his loved ones! He's still gaming with his online companion Gloomurai and texts his Diasomnia boys all the time. Lilia also sends cards for special occasions, putting much love and care into his notes and the pictures + souvenirs he attaches to them.
His whole face lights up when his friends are able to make the time to pay him a visit. Lilia makes a big show of it, insisting to arrange a big feast or to play a tune for them—oh, and how about a fireworks show?! But his guests just tell him to sit down and take it easy while they take care of everything for him. It’s his turn to be doted on!

How to change your life with Gamification
Disclaimer stat point and daily quest (points) are used interchangeably and are different from main/side quest (points)

You may have already heard about Gamification. It’s a strategy in which you use game mechanics,elements and principles to apply them to your everyday life to enhance your performance, studying etc.
But how should I use this technique to get the most of my life?
This is a guide for implementing Gamification in your life and thoroughly explains the process.
In my guide I am inspired by manhwa systems like in the solo leveling manhwa. Normally a system gives you stats such as strength which one can upgrade and become stronger. Upgrading is archived by quests that give you exp which also can increase your Rank e.g from F Rank to E Rank all the way to S Rank or higher. Quests are differentiated between daily quests and non daily quests. There are more functions such as items and gold but for the basic setup they are not needed
First you need to create your stats. In the solo leveling manhwa there are six stats: Strength, Vitality, Agility, Intelligence and Sense. You should have six stats but you are not obligated to use the ones from solo leveling. Idk how you can implement Sense and Vitality.
I strongly recommend you to have a stat called Willpower which indicated if you did every quest that you set for yourself and how well you stick to the system as a motivation.

As you can see I copied the stats Strength, Intelligence and Agility from Solo Leveling and added Willpower, Discipline and Stamina.
Some other ideas for stats are:
Charm (Beauty stat: I would use this if you want to glow up)
Charisma (If you want to improve your social skills or want to speak ------------ more professionally etc. I would use this stat
Health: If you want to eat more healthily or want to diet or want to -------- get your sleep schedule right etc. I would use this stat
You can get creative and cater to your own needs
Now if you have your stats you have to create a daily quests with each of these stats
Here is my example:

My quests don't look like much but you have to gradually work yourself up to your goals. Someone who has never done e.g Pilates in their life can't do a 30 min Pilates workout from day one without loosing motivation in the long run. So if you want to e.g. get your sleep schedule right I would set your wake up time e.g. 5min earlier every cycle until you reach your goal and maintain it.
A cycle equals 21 days. If you finish a cycle you can reflect your performance and make the daily quests harder or change the stats if they don't fit into your goals. Especially your first cycle is more of a test and try period. But you should keep your stats as they were and should not change them except if they really don't serve you.
Main/Side Quest stats:
These quests are quests like ''learn … language for 15min''. They are more of a to-do lists task.
I would use this formula for categorizing these tasks:

Emotional damage stat explained:
This stat affects your conversion rate to points in the daily quest stat points. Normally the conversion rate is 10 e.g 10 main quest stat willpower point = 1 daily quest willpower stat point. Per +5 emotional damage you have to collect 5 extra points to converse the stat point
Example 10 points are needed in the main quest stats to converse to one stat point with a rate of 5 emotional damage point you need 15 points. A 10 point emotional damage point equals a 20 point conversion rate and so on.
How to decrease the emotional damage stat:
If you complete main/side quests as a reward you get -1 emotional damage point which you can use to get your emotional damage point to a good level. Emotional damage can't get into the negative.
The difference between daily quest stats or stats and main/side quest stats and leveling up is explained below
Stats in/de- crease in the main/side quests doesn't affect the normal stats that we've established so you have to create a new stat page for the main/side quest stats to count the points.
Like this:

Ten points on e.g intelligence stat on this list equals one daily quest intelligence stat point.
The conversion rate is as such 10 to 1 which means if you have e.g ten agility points you get one agility stat point.
How to level up:
Every time you finish a daily quest you gain a point for the Stat (first pic) you can only gain one point per stat per day. If you gain 10 points at every stat in the daily quest stat you can level up. If you don't finish a quest you will loose 1 point from the stat that you would've gained one point from.
Ranking up:
First you have to choose a range from which you can level up e.g F to S Rank / F to SSS+ Rank etc. than you have to find a starting point which you gradually increase e.g 20 (start point) increases +20% per Rank up.
How to increase your Rank:
Completing all daily quests gives you 1 EXP while the EXP gain can value in main/side quest the rest is explained above.
Here's my example:

Zyklus is German for cycle which I just tracked here and is explained above.
Lastly you need something that motivates you and in Solo Leveling it was a Punishment Zone if sung jin woo doesn't complete his quests.
For myself if I don't complete 5/6 quests i have to do the punishment.
For the punishment you have to do something you detests (and strains your body)
My example are 150 burpees

One last thing is that you can 100% customise this approach you can add coins items etc. which also exists in a system, change other things as you like but the foundation has to remain intact.

Coriolanus shuffling around his bedroom drew you from your slumber, momentarily forgetting the past day’s events.
“What are you doing awake so early?” You mumbled, leaning back on your elbows to watch your boyfriend skitter around, papers in his hands.
“Dr. Gaul wanted Clemensia and I to write a proposal for some additions to the Games. After everything yesterday, I forgot until a little while ago.” Coriolanus explained, glancing at you. “It’s still early, you can sleep for another couple hours.”
Shaking your head, you sat up and yawned. “I’m not going to let you stay up alone, Coryo. Besides,” you looked at your bandaged palm. “My hand is starting to bother me again.”
The blue eyes you loved darted from his desk to the white gauze on your hand. “I’m sorry, love. I wish I could have been in your place.”
“Don’t, Coryo. You couldn’t have predicted what could have happened yesterday.” You drew your knees up to your chest, arms wrapping around your legs. “What sorts of things did you write about adding to the Games? Does Clemensia know you’re still writing it?”
Coriolanus set his pen down, giving the paper a once-over. “Would you like to read it? Make sure it makes sense?” He asked, handing the papers over to you.
Taking them in your non-stitched hand, you looked the three sheets over, reading over what Coriolanus suggested the Gamemakers add to enhance the Games and entice the Capitol and even districts to watch them.
“Betting on the tributes?” You asked. “How?”
Coriolanus shrugged, moving to sit next to you in his bed. “A prize pot, perhaps? The winner gets a portion of the prize money, the Capitol gets the other portion to use in updating the arena.”
Humming, you passed the papers back to your boyfriend, who slid them into his bag. “Now, you do need rest. Sleep for a little, my dove.”
You rolled your eyes, but you did curl into Coriolanus’ side as he too tried to catch another couple hours of sleep.

Having been granted fifteen minutes with the tributes in the arena to gather information and propose strategies, you made quick time of getting the basics out of your bag and handing them to Tanner.
“Some food, water, and antibiotics to last until the day after tomorrow.” You explained, setting the items on the table within Tanner’s reach so he could examine them while restrained to the table.
“Your hand okay?” He asked, staring at the gauze.
Following his gaze, you flexed your fingers, grunting as the skin pulled taut near the stitches. “I’ll be okay.”
You looked over to where Coriolanus and Clemensia were talking to Peacekeepers and Dean Highbottom, having been called over from their tributes. “Have you made any allies so far?”
Tanner knew what you were getting at. “You want me to help protect the songbird? Your boyfriend trying to win or something?”
You swallowed, gauging how you should respond. “Or something.”
“Look,” Tanner said, lacing his hands together on the tabletop. “I’ll save my ass first, but if there’s anything I can do to not get her killed, I’ll try to help her.”
You thanked him, jumping when there was a sudden alarm from the speakers. “Time’s up!”
Peacekeepers wasted no time to gather the tributes and take them back to their cage at the Capitol Zoo, and you wished Tanner well before the next time you saw him- one final meeting between mentors and tributes before the Games.

You finally caught up with Coriolanus after a couple hours back at the Citadel, frowning at the lack of Clemensia with him. “Where’s Clem?”
“She’s uh, she’s not feeling well.” Coriolanus replied, grabbing the door to the café for you.
“Oh. Did something happen when you two met with Dr. Gaul?”
Coriolanus softly nodded his head. He looked green at the gills, and you felt your stomach turn at what the possibilities could be with Dr. Gaul and her mutts in the lab.
“Coryo,” you whispered. “What happened?”
“I can’t explain it here. But I will, promise.” He mumbled, chewing on his lip.
You knew he would eventually tell you, as it seemed you were one of the few people he would give the full truth.
“Okay.” You sat at one of the pristine tables, sweeping some crumbs off of the surface. “Citadel needs to get new Avoxes to clean, I think the current ones have gone soft with their jobs.”
Coriolanus hummed absentmindedly, taking your non-injured hand. “Did you have a good meeting with Tanner earlier?”
Nodding, you explained how you got him to try and protect Lucy Gray, as much as you disliked the singer.
“Hopefully her district-mate won’t take that in the wrong way.” Coriolanus mumbled. “Hey, does your father still have that guitar he used to play?
Narrowing your eyes, you didn’t like where this was heading. “I believe so. Why?”
“Lucy Gray is going to sing at the interview, but she needs a guitar. It’s the only thing I could think of to get her sponsors.”
“She’s going to what?” You asked, confused. “Isn’t the purpose of the interview for the Capitol citizens to get to know the tributes? You know, to want to help them?”
Coriolanus retracted his hand from your own, shield going up. “We thought it would do better for her to sing. You saw how everyone reacted when she sang at the Reaping. She was the talk of the town.”
Frowning, you had to admit Coriolanus had a point. “I can ask if my father will let me use the guitar. But there’s no promises when he finds out what it would be used for.”
Coriolanus thanked you softly, eyes focusing on something behind you. “What time did Dean Highbottom say we were to go back to the arena?”
Turning around, you felt a bubble of anxiety when you saw the Peacekeepers at the entrance of the café. “Never said a specific time. I guess it’s now.”
Just as you two were standing up, Dean Highbottom called for the twenty-two remaining mentors to meet him and the Peacekeepers in the main hallway.

“Didn’t expect to come back here today.” Tanner said as you sat across from him once more.
“Nor I.” You replied, looking around with a careful eye. “Tanner, there are lots of hiding spots up in the stands. If you can get there quickly, you should be able to hide until some of the tributes are taken out.”
“You mean killed. Till they’re killed.” Tanner spat, frowning.
You quickly glanced at him, before diverting your gaze. “Y-yeah, I guess. Listen, you’ve already got some sponsors, so I’ll be able to supply you with water and some bread during the Games. But I won’t be able to send them unless I know where you-”
You were cut off as a number of explosions went off around the arena, sending everyone into a tizzy.
Tributes were running around, some trying to escape, others to hide. Peacekeepers were split between controlling the tributes and trying to evacuate the mentors, and the mentors themselves were making a break for the exits.
“Coryo!” You yelled, dodging some fallen rocks and marble.
You saw your boyfriend helping Lucy Gray out of a predicament, before his eyes met your own, and you saw them grow wide as dinner plates.
Before you could say anything else, you heard the beam above you break and grow closer and closer, feeling someone push you nearly out of harm’s way, but not completely.

Soft whispering was the first thing you heard, the smell of antiseptic the first thing you smelled.
There was a pressure on your hand, and you tried to squeeze it.
“Hey, hey can you hear me?”
Coriolanus, his hand was what you felt in your own.
“Tigris, can you get one of the nurses? I think she’s waking up.”
You tried with all your might to open your eyes, but regretted it as you were met with a rather bright overhead light.
Blinking a few times to adjust, you swallowed thickly, Coriolanus grabbing the water cup on the table to his side.
“Wh- what happened?” You croaked, voice raw.
“It was a rebel bombing.” Sejanus voiced from where he was walking into the room. “They must’ve been there for months.”
You didn’t know what to say, and Coriolanus was quiet, as well.
“Four tributes are dead. Felix Ravenstill is on life support.”
“Is Tanner ok?” You asked, looking between the two men. “Lucy Gray? Marcus? Are they okay, too?”
“Lucy Gray is fine, but Marcus is,” Coriolanus drifted off, looking back at his classmate.
“Marcus made a run for it.” Sejanus explained, frown on his face. “Peacekeepers are out looking for him, but he’s got a better chance out there than in that arena.”
You furrowed your brows, looking back at your boyfriend. “They’re still going on with the Games?”
Coriolanus nodded, and the light caught his face, causing you to gasp. “Coryo, are you okay?”
Before he could answer, Tigris came back into view, nurse in tow. “How are you feeling, Miss Rosewing?”
You paused before speaking, just now realizing how much pain you really were in. “I’m sore, but it’s fine.”
Coriolanus frowned, squeezing your hand.
The nurse nodded, eyes roaming the three people around your cot, stopping at Coriolanus. “You, young man, aren’t supposed to be out of your own bed. What are you doing over here?”
“I needed to make sure my girlfriend was okay. I feel fine.”
Your eyes trailed around Coriolanus’ body as he talked before coming to a stop at the faint bruising on his cheek.
The nurse hummed, attention falling back to you. “You sustained some of the worst injuries from the bombing. A broken rib or two and a punctured lung being the worst of it.”
That explained the pain you felt every time you took a breath.
“The doctors want to keep you here for a couple days for observation.” Tigris added, and you immediately shook your head, struggling to sit up.
“Easy, easy, don’t want to rip a stitch.” Coriolanus commanded softly, helping you adjust to a more upright position.
“I can’t stay here! I need to be at the Citadel, need to help Tanner, help Lucy Gray.” You looked between the nurse and your boyfriend, both with frowns on their faces.
The nurse thought best to leave the area, so she simply explained that it was only a recommendation that you stay, final decision was up to you.
“You should stay here. It’s safer.” Coriolanus spoke, glancing at the tv as Lucky Flickerman began interviewing Jessup.
Sejanus and Tigris both agreed with him. “Not to mention they have medication here that can help you with the pain.”
You fiddled with the hem of the sad excuse of a sheet covering your legs on the bed. “I’m not staying. I need- I need to try and get Tanner as far into the Games as he can go.”
“Love,” Coriolanus started, glancing up at the tv once more as Lucy Gray began to sing, before returning his attention to you. “Please, just stay here for the night.”
“No, Coriolanus.” You rarely used his full name, only when you were done arguing, and Coriolanus was no fool.
Tigris softly bid you two good night, promising to update Grandma’am on your conditions, and Sejanus walked her out.
You watched in the corner of the tv as Lucy Gray’s number of donations sky-rocketed, Coriolanus’ eye on the rise and fall of your chest.
“I’m sorry.”
Your quiet apology startled him, and his gaze shot to your own. “What for?” He whispered, elbows coming to rest on the side of the bed, lacing your hand in both of his own. “Unless you placed those bombs, you have nothing to be sorry for.”
Looking at his bruised cheek, you felt your eyes water. “I- Coryo, I need to help Tanner so he can help Lucy Gray. You need to win, Coyo.”
Coriolanus felt his heart swell, hand moving to caress your cheek. “I will, love. I will.”
“Can you stay over tonight? I don’t think I can be alone.”
Coriolanus nodded, pressing his lips to your hand. “Of course.”

You second-guessed your decision to leave the hospital as soon as you fully sat up, pain erupting throughout your abdomen. “Oh, okay, ow.”
Coriolanus paused, one hand hovering at your lower back, the other being held tightly be your own. “You okay?”
Nodding, you pressed your lips in a tight line. “Just peachy.”
“It’s not too late, you can still stay here.”
You shook your head, bracing yourself as you stood up. “Once I’m up it’ll be better.”
Coriolanus, not believing you for a second, bit his tongue as you carefully took a step forward. “You still feeling like this was a good idea?”
“Shut up, Snow.”
Coriolanus followed you as the dutiful boyfriend he was, thankful your father had sent the family’s private car, not wanting you to walk the miles it was back to your family residence.
“I think it’s time for a long, hot shower.” You mumbled, thankful to be sitting in the plush backseats of the vehicle.
Smiling, Coriolanus hummed in agreement, hand going to rest on your thigh. “I think that’s just what the doctor ordered.”
“No funny business tonight, though. Maybe once I can take a deep breath again.” You smiled, and Coriolanus felt a small weight lift off his shoulders, happy you were back to your teasing self even with the aftermath of the bombing.

Wishing he would utter even a single word, you made quick work of disinfecting your tools. Trying to keep your hands desperately still
This challenge was impossible due to your bones aching beneath your weight just urging you to sit down
You knew you could trust him..maybe not fully but if he wanted you dead he would’ve done it long ago by now
Still, you wondered if this was some sick joke or a challenge you’re unaware of
Is it luck that I’ve survived this far? Or am I one step away from falling into a trap?
You would never be able to tell
Every nerve in your body told you to flee, the ancestral plea yearning for survival
But you kept standing there
Still doing the task at hand with careful precision, your quickening heartbeat giving away the remnants of fear
And he could hear it, there was no doubt about it
And as for you, him shifting off the wall was enough for your heart to threaten to bust through the confinements of your ribs
Wondering if he’s looking at you now, you realised you’d be lying to yourself if you didn’t want him too
You knew he could see the affect he had on you, but you hoped he understood it
That you’re not just a surf, you have thoughts, feelings, experiences. You are human just like was before his enhancements
It was a shout into the void, to the gods, to whoever was listening
So, you cast out your plea
And he was looking right into you, almost sapphire blue eyes found your own
Embarrassingly, you felt your face heat up
There was no where to look, only him. His head slightly cocked to the side seemingly searching your gaze
The slight frown on your face, the challenging look in her eyes. That was unheard of in a surf…
Perhaps that’s why she was chosen for me…
You could only do this for a while, hoping he would give in
“Serf”
Almost a whisper, you could’ve missed it
“Yes, my lord Titus?”
Using his full title made you relish in his power, contradicting your previous fears
Throne…I need some sleep
He raised his gravely voice “walk with me”
You walked in unison, again in silence. Your sluggishness failed to keep up with his steps
Letting out a slight huff, you swore he slowed his pace…or is it the lack of sleep creating hallucinations?
Thankfully, you were both out of the way from the hustle of the med bay
Your head spun with excitement and anticipation, but your nerves made your eyes widen as you realised this is the path to your lords quarters
Why is he taking me here? I at least hope he likes what I’ve done…throne help me
“How far are you with the mission report?”
Turning a tight corner, you winced at the cold air but kept up his pace
“Almost done my lord, I will be finished by tomorrow evening”
A low hum escaped his lips, watching him was he casted a armoured hand though his well-trimmed fade. His eyes fluttering close, nodding
You realised you had been staring for too long when your lord took a turn, causing you to fall out of unison
You hoped again he didn’t see, but you know your lord picks up on everything
“Good, I’d like to request further clarification regarding timing, strategies. And importantly behaviour, if the Sergeant continues to act like a-”
His last sentence was cut off as his footsteps entered his quarters, you being left at his door frame with your hands clasped tightly behind you
Watching as he gazed across his room, you saw him slow down, taking it all in
Unsure as how to interpret this, you spoke “my lord, I-I’m sorry I didn’t mean to intrude..I j-just wanted to make up for, for earlier-”
It was his turn to cut you off
“You did this?”
You were still frozen at his door, it’s coolness against your back soothing the heat corsing through your veins
“Well, yes, yes my lord”
The stacked data pads, his desk lacking a single spec of dust, the polished armour glowing in the candlelight, the fresh sheets, all wrapped up in the calming smell of incense
Everything was crafted so neatly, Titus was almost dizzy from circling his well cared for room. Something he had not experienced, at least not like this
One thing was left, a small package at the end of his bed.
As he cradled it in his hand, he turned to you, gesturing you ro come forward next to him
“What is this?”
He loomed over you, confusion scattered over his face
The unfamiliar look on your yours face turned your lips into a weak smile
“Why don’t you find out”
He chucked to himself “I didn’t know i was also getting a gift barer when you came to me”
Surprisingly delicate for a space marine, he unfolded the paper to reveal a small desert
He couldn’t quite believe what he was looking at, but the smell was unmistakable
A dessert from his homeworld sat neatly in the palm of his hands
His gaze still focused to his hands he questioned you
“You didn’t make this too..did you?”
Inching towards him, still smiling “you mentioned it a while ago, thought you might like something familiar”
His gaze did not falter, his eyes fixated with his lips tugged slightly upwards
The growing silence and stillness of your lord triggered you to spiral
Oh throne..I’ve done too much havent I?
“My lord I am sorry for the overstep I just found the recipe and thought I could try it..but”
Embarrassment silenced your ramblings until he turned to you
His soft blue eyes flickering in the candlelight “no one has ever done this for me before…I-”
Another pause
“Thank you, throne you really have gone to great lengths hmm? What other surprises do you have for me, my serf?”
There. A full grin etched across his face, the candlelight accentuating his chissled features
You savoured this moment, you’ve never achieved a good look at your lord until now
And throne..what a sight
You were so out of it you didn’t even realise your chests were almost touching
His playful tone was making it hard to think
Your gaze drifted across the bridge of his nose, noting the freckles flowing onto his cheeks
“I was still..nervous..well..I was unsure if you liked surprises my lord, you like the predictableness of control”
Lifting his brow slightly, he cocked his head and adverted his gaze to the corner of the room in slight amusement
“You keep me curious, I think I like surprises more now. You’re certainly more than I bargained for that’s for sure”
You exhaled your relief, you were safe, he didn’t dislike you, you didn’t overstep, he might even like you
As he perched at the end of his bed, you automatically began to remove his armour as he spoke
“I’ve done some digging, you have an exceptionally low mortality rate as well as a keen eye…it’s been noted”
You twisted your head in confusion, unclasping his armour
“By who my lord?”
He sighed as the armour lifted off his worn body, his eyes still casting over his quarters
“By me”
His soft tone was still something you were getting used to causing you to almost slip when removing the last piece of armour, neatly positioning it to be cleaned and monitored
Your breath stilled. Your gaze fixated to the floor you sat upon
“Thank you, my lord”
Whipping your head up to face him you were met by mountains of muscle as the lieutenant sat in only a loincloth around his waist
You couldn’t remember the last time you performed his armour removal, but this time you traced over his scars with cautious eyes
He was a sight to behold, carved from great gods, a being of high skill and perfection in every way
You followed him as he stood
“Will you remain? I’d like your imput regarding some of the reports?”
And of corse you nodded
