Okay so the supe virus doesn’t affect non supes right? I came up with the thought that if the virus doesn’t affect non supes then I think they’re gonna release(bring back) Soldier Boy as a way to ‘cure’ people since he can turn supes into non supes but since they locked him up bros gonna have a “why should I help you wah wah wah” moment until he’s like convinced or something and if SB is convinced to help it’s either gonna be Mallory and they’re gonna have a whole love thing or it’s gonna be Hughie cause dude somehow befriends majority of his enemies and I don’t remember SB acting as aggressive with Hughie as he does everyone else he interacts with 🤔 majority of the scenes we see SB is actually chatting with Hughie but with everyone else it’s rude comments and tryna be the ‘Alpha male’ (e.g.Butcher)
Besides the obvious encounters such as when SB punched Hughie in the woods but that’s mainly cause he tried to help SB’s ‘enemy’ try to escape.

My theory is that Soldier Boy is lying to trap Homelander. Butcher knows how Vought totally effed up Homelander and how much he's craved love and familial affection. Homelander has proven he will hide in Vought Tower when faced with an actual villain. He'll definitely not leave when Soldier Boy has proven he can hurt him. I think the only thing that could lure him out is "his father."
We also never heard what Mindstorm told Soldier Boy.
I don't believe for a second that Soldier Boy would have given up the limelight, even for a son. Supposedly he loved Crimson Countess and was delusional about how others felt about him. I wouldn't be surprised if Soldier Boy was the type of douche to say everyone in Payback was "like family" and if Black Noir's cartoon recollection is accurate, we saw exactly how Soldier Boy treated his family.
We also saw Butcher's family life, so I would guess that Soldier Boy would be more of that type of father than supporting an heir to take his place.
Soldier Boy has also made several comments on what he thinks is a man and a father, neither would have comforted a child Homelander.
Soldier Boy is the exact type to tell a child "Don't be a sissy" or "man up."
Homelander would be worse if Soldier Boy had raised him.
Soldier Boy would totally be the type of man who would hate and resent a stronger son with more powers, all on top of losing fame.
My theory is that Soldier Boy is counting on ruining Homelander's reputation, with Starlight's testimony and the airplane video leaking. He traps Homelander with promises of revenge and fatherly love. They finally kill him, and Soldier Boy spins it where he was a POW and returning hero. As far as I can recall, there's no proof of Soldier Boy's crimes, and he's still remembered as a hero. So it would be easy for him to take Homelander's place, and The Boys find out they took down one psychotic supe and replaced him with another.
A crazy Season 4 would be stopping Soldier Boy from de-powering every other supe and destroying Compound V, so literally no one else could challenge him.

that was such a fantastic butcher episode, holy shit. he's literally devolving into a villain. his revenge on homelander isn't about rebecca anymore, this proved it, he's literally trying to get the poison of his violence out in the most satisfying way, on the person he hates most in the world, the stand in for the father he can't kill, a dump for all his self-loathing. we saw him give up those he loves one by one, m.m., frenchie, ryan, and now hughie, all because the hatred is that strong......
fuck karl urban is good. and if there's one thing kripke knows, it's making a brother story that rips your heart out. run, hughie, run

Unless he was scripted to do/say something (more) inappropriate to them, the line drawn may have been more severe than a balking at gay people scene. Jensen said he went in trying to do things that would get SB canceled and being shocked at queer PDA feels like a low risk example. His “as a father, as a son, as a human being I can’t do this” tells me harm to a child or a non-con advance — something in that line of vulgar, horrific, and/or unforgivable. On the flip side, it could just be a dignity thing, in that case something off color in a more lighthearted-yet-still-morally/ethically-screwed-up way, so he and Kripke compromised. Though I’d love to hear your train of thought with the homophobia peek we were given.
oh I definitely dont think the mention of SB balking at gay people was THE line; I was leaning in the other direction you mention - that perhaps he drew the line at more extensive conduct that was adjacent to or resulting from the character's homophobia - so perhaps some action in response to SB's discomfort with the new 'modern' society he's awakened in that could also flare out to some of the conduct you're referencing (internalized and externalized homophobia can lead to severely unacceptable conduct as we know).
I also have some iced coffee related theories on why SB would be PARTICULARLY upset with gay people as projection of his own core sexuality and repressing it throughout his life (similar to what the show has repeatedly reinforced about supes like Ezekiel who preach praying the gay away while hooking up with men in the supe sex club, for example). this also ties into the current climate of Republican senators who may be pushing certain agenda's due to their own self-internalized shame over their identity (and that theory would co align with the commentary in the article ab how Kripke's writing in the show sometimes seems to predict our political climate at the time of its airing in advance.)
I am personally foaming at the mouth at an exploration of a potentially repressed bi SB; w the shock of Herogasm as an added factor and the presence of Maeve whose storyline has already been used as a commentary on erasure of bisexuality in Hollywood (so SB could be an expansion of that overall and also a side commentary on how difficult it is specifically for bisexual men in the realm of celebrity). as an aside, I know people are wary of kripke in SPN fandom overall, but I actually watched The Boys first so that's been. my first impression and I def see this as a storyline he would be interested in doing (and DEF w someone as nuanced and talented of an actor as Jensen who could show both the horrible repercussions of living life in this manner as well as evoke sympathy from the audience at some of the struggles the character goes through that make him this way).

I think that Victoria Neuman is the cuntiest villain in The Boys. The head-popping is crazy, especially in this court scene I'm watching. Grim as hell, and I remember how I felt when I saw this same thing at the end of I Am Not Okay With This.
And now I'm watching episode 8 (Season 2) about what to do if there is "a supervillain on your school campus". Sounds awfully like what happens in Gen V. It's also an illustration of how bad all that kind of thing is IRL.

Danny: Hey, I need you to be my boyfriend for a week.
Jason: What.
Danny: My parents are coming over and I've apparently accidentally talked about a partner more than once and only realized when they said they wanted to meet them.
Jason, currently still solidifying his power as a Crime Lord: Excuse me?
Danny: Let me get this out of the way, I do not consider you at all a person of romantical interest and a friend. But I need you to act as my partner for only a week until my parents go on their merry way over to my sister, okay?
Jason: Is there, quite literally, no one else to ask this?
Danny: You're my only friend who lives in Gotham, plus we share the same apartment.
Jason: That's almost sad.
Danny: You in?
Jason: Sure, why not.
===
Maddie: Danny, honey.
Danny: Yes mom?
Maddie: I don't mean to.... question, who you choose as your parent but. Well, me and your father was just wandering if he was a... [Maddie gestures with her hand] you know, one of those.
Danny, uncomprehendingly staring at his mother's hand: What.
Maddie: Oh dear, how do I bring this up. You know, one of those.
Danny: Mother I need more context.
Jack: If your boyfriend a crime lord!?
Maddie: Jack!
Jack: What? Beating around the bush wasn't helping!
Danny: Say WHAT?
===
Danny: Hey dude, thanks for helping with this even though you didn't need to!
Jason: No problem, I wasn't doing anything too [Crime Lord activities flash through his mind] important.
Danny: Can you believe my parents thought you were a crime lord though? Weird am I right?
Jason:
Danny: Jason. You are scaring me.
Jason: Haha, yea that's weird isn't it?
Danny: Jason.
Jason: Well, I have to leave now to attend to my totally real and totally not crime related job at the ice cream shop.
Danny: [Squints eyes]
Jason: [Internally sweating bullets]
Danny: Suuuuure, bring me back some ice cream though.
Jason: [Thumbs up and leaves]

So I'm reading for an art history class, and Baudrillard is talking about the trends in colour usage from generation to generation (mostly in interior design, but there's definite spillover into fashion, architecture, etc.), and how every new colour movement is a direct rebellion against the previous one, like how the bright colours of the 60s/70s were a direct response to the austerity and seriousness of the WWII/postwar era, and how a shift back to organized, moralistic neutrals were a direct rejection of 60s/70s gaudiness, etc., and that all makes sense, people find their parent's style tacky, sure
But he goes on to observe how we've now been stuck in a lull of pasty tones and naturalistic finishes for some time, and I'm thinking yes, he's so right, but that's weird, because its been hanging around for so long, like what is it rebelling against anymore? What is it answering to? Well all I had to do was be patient because lo and behold, Baudrillard provides the following sentence, which caused me to completely wig out:
"...except of course, for the spheres of advertising and commerce, where colour's power to corrupt enjoys full rein"
And I'm like ooohhhhHHHHHH, so this colourless minimalist wasteland of a design principle:
Tumblr media
Is maybe hanging on so stubbornly because this corporate hellscape:
Tumblr media
is assaulting all of our eyes, inside and outside of our homes, every waking second, and is tainting the very concept of colour into something we can't relax around in our living spaces.
EDIT: The reading was The System of Objects by Jean Baudrillard, 1996 Ed., Part A, Section II, Subheading "Atmospheric Values: Colour" (p. 30-36 in my copy). Even if this was a passionate spur-of-the-moment post, omitting this was pretty silly; my bad.
EDIT 2: I was trying to be chill and leave this one alone, cuz I know most people in the notes are talking to themselves and their followers and not actually me, but 11,000 notes in it's starting to get to me - yes, I am aware that decreased homeownerhship/increased renting/landlord specials/hyperfocus on resale values, are all very direct causes of this too. I totally agree. For me, those were the obvious answers; I think we all get why the owning class is serving this to us. My epiphany moment was about understanding the flip side, the psychology of the consumers who keep accepting it, and even seem to enjoy it. That's what I couldn't understand before, but now I suddenly do. (And for those of you saying such people don't exist, no one actually wants to live without colour - check the notes, bb, they're everywhere. Not everyone has the same brain as you. We all deal with the horrors of capitalism differently.)

Thinking about an AU where Clark landed on earth as an adult instead of a baby. Literally nothing changes except for Bruce having to hide this 6’4, 200 pound golden retriever who shoots lasers out of his eyes in his mansion.
Clark is VERY clingy and these soft whispers in his language send tremors down Bruce’s spine.
And, really, the moon rocks Clark keeps bringing are very beautiful, but it’s getting harder to explain where they come from.

"This Whole Situation"
Rise Ramblings #1
So as you guys know, one occurring phrase in the show between the boys and April is “This whole situation.” Although vague, and used in many other contexts, sometimes the family uses the phrase to refer to their mutations.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, once finishing the series it’s hard to miss that Donnie never says the phrase. Now, I could be wrong (and If I am, just comment and let me know!) but I have a theory as to why Donnie doesn’t say it… Donnie never says “this whole situation” because in his mind, there IS no situation.
The Evidence:
I started noticing something interesting about Donnie’s state of mind about himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He never really expresses that he’s different from other people, he’s just…him. Obviously, he knows that he’s a mutant, but it’s not something at the front of his mind. I associate it to if someone has a certain attribute, that person is just that, a person first. I believe it’s the same for Donnie. He’s a person, that just so happens to be a mutant turtle, and I live for it.
What made me solidify my theory was the use of disguises in Rise, specifically the use of disguises in April’s school.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All of the boys have visited April’s school, and all of them decided to wear disguises, except Donnie.
Tumblr media
He just shows up in his regular clothing. One could argue that the hoodie is his disguise, but then why did the rest of the boys wear actual (silly) disguises while our boy Donnie is just like, “Hoodie? Check.” And not only that, but for the whole episode, all eyes are on him, and he just. Doesn’t. Care. It’s glorious!
Tumblr media
Later, in the episode Donnie vs. Witch Town, we see that Donnie showing up all willy-nilly pell-mell at April’s school was not a one-time thing. It’s literally been happening for years!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Therefore, I believe that canonically Donnie doesn’t care about “this whole situation.” And if someone does, as far as he’s concerned that’s their problem, not his.

having some thoughts about Soldier Boy and his homophobia mentioned by jackles in this piece [x], and his prior repeated references to SB’s past as a war veteran. having thoughts about iced coffee and the clear use of drinking/drugs to cope in the newest promo piece [x]...having thoughts about the duality of internalized homophobia by a possibly bi SB in conjunction with the trauma of being a war vet.
having thoughts about how this could be a deep dive on John Winchester with some slightly altered details.
having thoughts on jackles DOING a deep dive on John Winchester and how he became who he is in the mothership SPN on The Winchesters.
having thoughts on how John Winchester served as Dean’s primary model on his performative behavior and how part of his show arc was to grow past it and embrace his actual self over a copy of his father.
having thoughts about a ten episode SPN continuation on HBO.
in conclusion, jackles longcon = bi Dean truthing.
