Summary: Victoria has been graciously invited to attend the symposium hosted by Noble Bell College in collaboration with Night Raven College. Unfortunately, it seems she has a couple adversaries attending, specifically a certain prince of thorns...

"YOU'RE TELLING ME VICKY KISSED A FUCKING DRACONIA!?!"

Zen felt nauseous when Camilla began aggressively shaking him back and forth, but not to the point of feeling his insides wanting to flood out.

Looking to the side, Victoria sent Mercury a look of worry, taking note of how quiet the boy had been.

Sighing, Victoria walked over to Camilla and gently tapped her on the shoulder."Milla, you can stop shaking Zen back and forth. I fear that he may grow nauseous." Was all she had to say for Camilla to stop.

Zen dramatically collapsed onto the ground, quietly singing an equally dramatic musical number. Which resulted in Mercury calling him a prick-

While they were bickering, Victoria had to explain quite a bit to Camilla.

"Hmm…"

"I know you're upset-"

"Words cannot describe how bewildered and- And ANGRY I am after Zen said you kissed a Draconia!"

Victoria seethed in embarrassment."I didn't kiss him. At least not on the lips…" She said before assertively crossing her arms.

Camilla's eyes widened and Victoria noticed a vein in her forehead."Then where in the seven did you fucking kiss him???" Camilla interrogated, demanding an immediate answer from her cousin.

Sometimes I forget how protective she can get… Especially when a Draconia is involved. Victoria huffed.

"Milla-"

Camilla pouted and turned her head away from Victoria."I'm very disappointed in you, Vicky. Weren't you the most committed to our 'I fucking hate the Draconias' club?" She reminded her.

Victoria smiled fondly at the memory of the club they made when they were younger.

"Yes, vividly," Victoria replied.

Camilla stopped pouting, and Victoria noticed her lips twitching upwards. And her smile widened at that observation.

"Are you still mad at me?" Her voice sounded normal, bordering on unnaturally casual, but Camilla knew that this was Victoria's way of teasing her.

She held it in. She tried to stay mad at her for something so precarious.

But Camilla gave in and whined."I can't stay mad at you for too long…" she rested her head on Victoria's shoulder and hugged her tightly.

After pulling away from the hug, Victoria decided to change the subject."Why are you and Mercury here?" She asked.

Camilla placed a finger over her chin to try and recall the moments that happened before this. Based on her immediate change in expression, Victoria could imagine a lightbulb floating over Camilla's head.

"Mercy came here to represent his school. He said he came here with his counselor and the headmistress's daughter I think."

"I see…. And you?"

Camilla grinned."Aunt Vivian heard that your dad had some sort of hunch and called me over here to help!" She exclaimed, but this time she sounded more gleeful.

I'm guessing my father had the same feeling about Rollo-san… Victoria hummed, looking to the side intently.

But her thoughts came to a close when Zen suddenly hid behind her, in fear for his life."Eh-"

"TORI HELP, MERCURY'S TRYING TO KILL ME-"

"I'M JUST GOING TO PRICK OUT YOUR PRICKS LIKE ANY OTHER CACTUS."

"THAT DOESN'T SOUND COMFORTING."

In a matter of seconds, Victoria grabbed the two of them by their ears and smiled in irritation.

"You two, we. Are. In. Public. I don't care why you're here and who you're representing, we must appear and act dignified, not act like preschoolers." She sent the two of them a look that had both of their souls disappear from their bodies for ten minutes.

When she finally let go of their ears, Zen fake cried and began acting dramatically again, just to a lesser degree. But for Mercury, we looked unfazed.

When in doubt Victoria, Zen, and Camilla knew that he was probably shitting his pants at the idea of angering her.

"Sorry, Ane…" Mercury muttered, looking at the ground awkwardly. Victoria pats his head gently with a subtle but soft smile.

"It's okay. But I need you to be careful with how you act and what you say. Even if you say them out of anger, our enemies could be anywhere. And they might use your words against you." She warned, crouching a bit to reach Mercury's level of height.

Mercury bit his lip before exhaling."Okay… I'll try to keep my sarcastic comments to a minimum." He promised, smiling a bit.

She giggled."If you say so." She responded, "Shall we go look for my parents?"

The rest nodded enthusiastically as they walked alongside one another and began looking for Vivian and Florian. Not to forget the bickering they were all having.

"Where is Aurelie?"

"Ugh, don't get me started on that tramp."

"I'm still not over what she did to my hair!"

"Oh come on, Camilla, having snake hair isn't THAT bad!"

"Oh, would you SHUT THE FUCK-"

"You two. Don't start."

"VICTORIA? CAMILLA? MERCURY? ZEN?"

Florian awkwardly watched his wife as she was essentially hollering their names like her life was depending on it.

"Darling, please keep your voice down-"

"Not until I find our daughter, her brother, and her cousins." Vivian insisted, continuing to scurry around the city of flowers and search for them.

Florian let out a sigh." I know you're worried about Flamm, but-" he was cut off by a gasp from his wife.

"MY DARLING GIRL!"

Vivian cheered as she hugged her daughter tightly. When she eventually pulled away, Vivian began relentlessly doting on her daughter. And even though Victoria was somewhat embarrassed, she wasn't complaining.

"Oh, I can't help but say you look so beautiful! My darling girl, isn't she just ethereal?"

Zen snickered."With how doting auntie is, she's practically the equivalent of an overly positive anime mother!" He joked, earning a snort from Mercury.

Victoria chuckled a bit before sending Zen a look. Don't tell them what I did… I won't hear the end of it if they find out. She pleaded to him internally.

Zen immediately understood and sent her a nod, a grin, and a thumbs up in response. Which was enough to relieve Victoria of any stress she had.

Knowing Milla and Mercury, they're likely going to hide what they found out from my parents as well. Especially my father… Victoria sighed heavily, holding onto her mother's arm while they walked together.

"Victoria," Florian called, and the cousins and Zen stiffened a little. Victoria held in her emotions and raised a brow at her father.

"Yes, father?"

"Do you happen to know what Rollo Flamm intends to do?"

When he finally let out his question and it wasn't the one they were anticipating, Zen, Camilla, and Mercury audibly sigh in relief.

Victoria shakes her head."Unfortunately not, father. I am sorry to disappoint you, but I am unaware of what that man plans to do." Florian's expression softened before he nodded.

"It's okay, dearest. It isn't your fault."

She hummed, continuing to walk.

I'm more scared of what's going to happen. Whatever that man is going to do… He could do it any minute.

(Marigold Corner is a multimedia art project set in an alternative 1950s timeline about the children’s television series and picture books of the same name. Glorious Masquerade, crimson flames (6/?)

Summary: Victoria has been graciously invited to attend the symposium hosted by Noble Bell College in collaboration with Night Raven College. Unfortunately, it seems she has a couple adversaries attending, specifically a certain prince of thorns...

( This does not apply to any of the main stories. )

Author's note: Yet again, another self indulgent chapter! I wanted more time to write Vivian and Florian and chose to write them into this, since this was originally just that one segment of Malleus and Victoria ^^||

{ Florian's Point of view }

"I'm so glad that our darling little girl is finally making more friends! It feels like it was only yesterday when she and Zen were constantly playing in the Manor's gardens…"

Vivian giggled, staring fondly as her daughter and her group mates continued exploring the town.

Florian nodded in agreement."Indeed. Though, as much as I appreciate that she's going out of her comfort zone more often…. I'm a little concerned about something." Florian admitted to his wife as they walked.

Vivian groaned.

"Darling, if this is about Draconia, then you should know that Victoria has everything under control. She'll make sure his fingers don't touch a strand of-"

"That's not what I meant, my love…"

They stopped walking, and Vivian looked at her husband with deep concern. Instinctively, she dragged him to a quieter part of the town so they could discuss his troubles more privately.

"Well?..." Vivian anticipated whatever Florian had to say next. Her hands were clasped together, close to her chest, as she became more concerned by the second.

Florian inhaled."It's about Flamm." He blurted out, startling Vivian a bit by the sheer unexpected answer.

"Flamm?? The- The student council president of Noble Bell College???" Vivian's eyes were as wide as tea saucers, she wasn't even moving by how stunned she felt by such information.

When Florian nodded in reply, Vivian inched a bit closer."But- Why?" She called into question.

Florian massaged his temples."As outlandish as it sounds, it's purely a gut feeling but-"

"FLORIAN JUST TELL ME, YOU KNOW I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY LEVEL OF PATIENCE."

He raised his hands defensively, slightly startled by his wife's spontaneous shouts.

"I have a feeling that he's scheming something malicious. Something that could potentially harm our daughter."

Vivian's eyes became wider, and her body felt uneasy. Florian held her close as she remained stunned. Petrified by the thought, even.

"Harm… Our daughter?"

"Yes…. And I'm afraid that she'll-"

"Don't."

"...."

"Don't fucking finish that sentence, Florian."

Grabbing him by the arm, Vivian tugged her husband around the town, keeping an eye out for Rollo.

"Darling I know you're upset but-"

"No! I'm not stopping until I make sure I rain hell on that boy for potentially harming our daughter!"

"But what if my gut feeling is wrong??"

She stopped in her tracks, her head hung low and her grip on his arms loosening. Florian exhaled and hugged her from behind.

"....."

"We don't know if what I'm feeling will happen, my love. But if it happens, I promise I will do everything in my power to ensure the safety of you and Victoria."

Vivian's breath hitched, and her delicate porcelain hands held Florian's arms as they were wrapped around her.

".... Okay."

"Why are you here?"

Victoria bared her teeth, showcasing the irritatingly pearly whites to Malleus, practically unintentionally.

Malleus had his hand on his hip, lifting his head to look down at Victoria in a more assertive way. Which only irritated her even more.

Approaching him closer, Victoria's face was now inches away from his as they both scowled at one another. Completely ignoring that Sebek and Silver were also present.

"I should be asking the same thing. Why aren't you with your group mates?" Malleus's gloved hand held Victoria's chin, continuing to stare down at her.

Swatting his hand away, Victoria flapped open her fan."Sumeragi and Zen went to go souvenir shopping. I decided to stay behind, which resulted in this unfortunate encounter." As she delicately fanned herself, she sent Malleus a glare from the corner of her eye.

The corners of Malleus's forced smile twitched downward, a signifier that he was losing his patience with Victoria and her behavior toward him.

Sebek wished to interfere and talk down on Victoria for disrespecting his master, but Silver retaliated and somehow managed to convince him not to do so.

Does this prince believe that he'll earn my respect? Tsk… How immature of a mindset. Victoria thought.

And it seems that one of his subordinates is under the same belief… She pondered if she could manipulate Sebek out of his undying loyalty to Malleus. It wouldn't be easy, but it certainly wouldn't be difficult for a woman with her cunning.

"It seems you aren't enjoying this festival, Shard." Was what Malleus said to drag Victoria out of her line of thought.

She hummed."I'm not too fond of festivals. Zen manages to make it less pretentious." What piqued Silver and Sebek's interests wasn't what she said, but Malleus's reaction to it.

To them, it felt like he didn't like hearing that Zen made the festival more endearing for her.

"I'm guessing Vanrouge advised you to have as much fun as you can while you're attending?"

"How did-"

"Simple guess. Besides, I'd expect a person who's never invited to feel validated by finally being invited to something for once." By making her mocking tone sound as though she was simply treating Malleus's situation as a joke, Sebek began to lose his restraint.

"HOW DARE YOU-"

"Zigvolt. Don't involve yourself in this." Malleus ordered, immediately quieting down Sebek. Victoria let out a quick laugh at Sebek's immediate attempt at retaliation against her.

"It seems you and your subordinates share something in common, Draconia…" Victoria's heels clicked as she slowly approached Malleus.

Malleus tilted his head curiously. He wanted to know what she had to say, even if it meant she grabbed a couple of strands of his hair to flirtatiously play with it.

"What are you on about, Shard?"

She smirked.

"You're all simple-minded."

Malleus remained unfazed by her words, and it wasn't even the thing that shocked him.

What shocked him was that Victoria pressed her lips against the strands of his hair she was holding, and gently kissed it.

Malleus stiffened at the unexpected display of… What most would assume to be romantic affection.

".... Why did-"

Before he got his answer, Victoria walked away from him, Sebek, and Silver.

"Helluva Boss": An Indie Animation With Morbid Humor

What if demons were contracted by other demons to assassinate "bad" humans? That's what Helluva Boss, a mature animated web series, is all about. While the series is bloody at times, it also has a tenor of morbid humor and is unlike any other animated series, indie or mainstream, that has ever been created or has appeared on any platform.

Helluva Boss is the creation of Vivienne "VivziePop" Medrano, a bisexual independent animator of Salvadoran descent, who is also known for her musical show about queer demons, Hazbin Hotel, which was picked up as full series order by A24 in August 2020. It is known for edgy humor, a unique animation style, catchy musical numbers, and voice acting. Like Hazbin Hotel, the Helluva Boss animated series is also full of LGBTQ+ characters.

The series centers around Immediate Murder Professionals (I.M.P.), an assassination company headquartered in Hell, headed by Blitzo (voiced by Brandon Rogers), and includes Moxxie (voiced by Richard Steven Horvitz), the weapons expert, Loona (voiced by Erica Lindbeck), the hellhound receptionist, and Millie (voiced by Vivian Nixon), an extrovert married to Moxxie. They are able to use a book from the Prince of Hell, Stolas (voiced by Bryce Pinkham), to visit the human world and kill humans on Earth to settle the "business" of residents in Hell. According to Medrano, while Hazbin Hotel is about redemption, Helluva Boss follows societies and characters already in Hell, with a focus on interpersonal relationships, and both series often don't overlap even though they are set in the same universe.

Helluva Boss has four LGBTQ characters (or even more if you talk to fans), most of which are in the main cast. Blitzo, who has slept with Stolas, is pansexual, and his voice actor, Rogers, is openly gay. Another protagonist, Moxxie, is bisexual, as Medrano confirmed on Bi Visibility Day last year, and Stolas is queer (possibly gay or bisexual). His relationship with Blitzo is complicated as he is married to to a demon named Stella (voiced by Georgina Leahy), and has a daughter named Octavia (voiced by Barrett Wilbert Weed). Stolas and Blitzo both seem to have feelings for each other, but Blitzo's unsure of what Stolas thinks of him.

Part of the show's appeal is its LGBTQ characters and interpersonal relationships. Helluva Boss promises to elevate queer narratives and stories, as much, if not more than shows such as The Owl House or OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes. Although Helluva Boss is more mature than both of those all-ages animated series, it also features themes of family camaraderie and having a chosen family. It also has a talented cast, which includes (apart from those previously mentioned) Norman Reedus, Cristina Vee, James Monroe Iglehart, Mara Wilson, Jinkx Monsoon, Erica Luttrell, and Medrano herself.

Most recently, the series featured Sallie May, a trans woman and Millie's sister. She is voiced by Morgana Ignis, who is also a trans woman. Although she is not as prominent a character as May Marigold in RWBY, voiced by trans female actress Kdin Jenzen, it is still great to see more trans representation in animation. Such representation will be expanded this fall when Barney, a trans man, debuts in DeadEndia, as well as when Lumberjanes drops on HBO Max, a series with a trans woman named Jo (one of the central characters). Hopefully, Sallie May returns in future episodes, and isn't a one-off character like Jewelstar in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power or Zadie from Danger & Eggs, to give two examples.

Helluva Boss, well-known in the indie animation space, has garnered over 100 million views on YouTube. It is created by Medrano's company, Spindlehorse Toons, which also worked on Hazbin Hotel and the animated adaption of Medrano's webcomic, ZooPhobia - "Bad Luck Jack", among other projects. The show's reach is evident by the fact that those who previously worked on the show, and on Hazbin Hotel, have begun their own animations, currently in development, like two horror and black comedies, Satina and Far-Fetched.

Last year, episodes of Helluva Boss were nominated for an Ursa Major Award in the Best Dramatic Series category, which awards works, whether literature, television, or whatnot, that fall within the furry fandom. Although some may eschew Helluva Boss for its sexual themes, strong language, or graphic violence, I would argue that it is one of the best series currently airing, whether one considers it better than Hazbin Hotel or not, especially when it comes to animated series.

Furthermore, music is such an important part of the show that Medrano even teamed up with a company so actors could be cast and recorded for their singing! Medrano has said that she is influenced by musicals and music numbers, citing Disney films as one of the influences. Although the series has eight episodes in its first season, Medrano has described it as part of a "much grander season."

With Helluva Boss currently on hiatus, now is the time to watch all of the show's episodes on Medrano's YouTube channel, including the original pilot and the six episodes from the first season, before the next episode drops, likely to much fanfare.
