10 Non-Lethal Injuries to Add Pain to Your Writing
New Part: 10 Lethal Injury Ideas
If you need a simple way to make your characters feel pain, here are some ideas:
1. Sprained Ankle
A common injury that can severely limit mobility. This is useful because your characters will have to experience a mild struggle and adapt their plans to their new lack of mobiliy. Perfect to add tension to a chase scene.
2. Rib Contusion
A painful bruise on the ribs can make breathing difficult, helping you sneak in those ragged wheezes during a fight scene. Could also be used for something sport-related! It's impactful enough to leave a lingering pain but not enough to hinder their overall movement.
3. Concussions
This common brain injury can lead to confusion, dizziness, and mood swings, affecting a character’s judgment heavily. It can also cause mild amnesia.
I enjoy using concussions when you need another character to subtly take over the fight/scene, it's an easy way to switch POVs. You could also use it if you need a 'cute' recovery moment with A and B.
4. Fractured Finger
A broken finger can complicate tasks that require fine motor skills. This would be perfect for characters like artists, writers, etc. Or, a fighter who brushes it off as nothing till they try to throw a punch and are hit with pain.
5. Road Rash
Road rash is an abrasion caused by friction. Aka scraping skin. The raw, painful sting resulting from a fall can be a quick but effective way to add pain to your writing. Tip: it's great if you need a mild injury for a child.
6. Shoulder Dislocation
This injury can be excruciating and often leads to an inability to use one arm, forcing characters to confront their limitations while adding urgency to their situation. Good for torture scenes.
7. Deep Laceration
A deep laceration is a cut that requires stitches. As someone who got stitches as a kid, they really aren't that bad! A 2-3 inch wound (in length) provides just enough pain and blood to add that dramatic flair to your writing while not severely deterring your character.
This is also a great wound to look back on since it often scars. Note: the deeper and wider the cut the worse your character's condition. Don't give them a 5 inch deep gash and call that mild.
8. Burns
Whether from fire, chemicals, or hot surfaces, burns can cause intense suffering and lingering trauma. Like the previous injury, the lasting physical and emotional trauma of a burn is a great wound for characters to look back on.
If you want to explore writing burns, read here.
9. Pulled Muscle
This can create ongoing pain and restrict movement, offering a window to force your character to lean on another. Note: I personally use muscle related injuries when I want to focus more on the pain and sprains to focus on a lack of mobility.
10. Tendonitis
Inflammation of a tendon can cause chronic pain and limit a character's ability to perform tasks they usually take for granted. When exploring tendonitis make sure you research well as this can easily turn into a more severe injury.
This is a quick, brief list of ideas to provide writers inspiration. Since it is a shorter blog, I have not covered the injuries in detail. This is inspiration, not a thorough guide. Happy writing! :)

Oh yeah! Reblogging to add my friend's tags:
#if you set your computer to a metered connection it can't update without your consent (:
This works on Windows 10, not sure about 11 yet though. (It's in the Settings menu, network settings, and I think you have to go into the settings for the specific network you're connected to. If you do a network reset, it removes that setting, so be sure to set it back afterwards!)
Also I believe no piece of software except for internet browsers should have always online internet connection. In fact, if you have something like an multiplayer game, you should go and click a very visible, very noticeable button that allows it to connect to the internet. If there is an update to an application, even your own OS, it should be in a very, very visible notification and only start with your express consent. You should be able to tell when something in your computer is connected to the internet. If you update your program in the background you should be shot.
#I found that last part out the hard way.#Got jumped by Many Updates as soon as I reconnected after a Network Reset.#I only wish I'd known it sooner because one of the updates absolutely messed up my network adapter#(it's a common story according to the number of differently-hosted forum boards I found with the exact same problem)#but of course Windows 10 doesn't let you uninstall updates individually the way XP did. u_u#(before anyone asks yes I've checked for driver updates and checked the router and reset the adapter and disabled/enabled it#and done SO many network resets and run command lines to reset the ip and subnet and things I don't entirely understand (risky I know)#and disabled IPv6 and changed the one setting to Long Only and probably more things that I can't remember right now.#It still randomly disconnects and won't let me reconnect to the network unless I do a complete reboot.#And oftentimes on days it's doing this I'll have to reboot FIVE TIMES an HOUR.#I'm at the point where I'm just going to get a very long ethernet cable as soon as I have spare cash. :P#anyways. OS updates. Metered connection stops them!#computer#windows#tips and tricks

xavier x fem.reader / mc.reader
obligatory tags: @milkandstarlight
notes: this is dedicated to all of you xavier girlies out there, with his misty silhouette card as my sole inspiration (⺣◡⺣)♡
[ minors don’t interact; by choosing to interact with this content, you have consented to viewing something n-fw despite the warnings. ]
{ so if i get jealous, i can’t help it | i want every bit of you, i guess i’m selfish. }
you saw a flash of anger across xavier’s eyes the moment he turns away from you, focusing on one of your plants when he grabs the gardening shears. the snipping sounds of those slender blades cutting through the branches echoes throughout the room. you could sense the wave of possession that courses through xavier’s veins, and you knew that you had to stop him.
swallowing thickly, you use the tip of your heels to reach him, managing to give his backside a gentle kick. he lets out a gasp, facing you with a darkened gaze. “don’t take your frustrations out on the plants. they’re innocent.”
he remains silent, turning around to completely face you as he gently grips at your knee, “where should i put it then?”
with your lips pursed, you slowly wrap your legs around his waist, forcing xavier to hold you against him. despite the faint pink hue seen on his cheeks, he manages to tell you, “don’t use the same tricks twice. it loses its effectiveness.”
a cheshire cat grin spreads across your features when you lean in to whisper in his ear, “then what are you suggesting?”
he was unable to resist you, leaning closer to you before admitting, “i don’t know.”
knowing all too well that he was throwing a tantrum, you lean forward and purposely bite down against his ear, earning yet another breathless gasp from him. “if that’s the case, then two can play at that game.”
you hear xavier click his tongue before leading you against your windows, “didn’t you say i shouldn’t take it out on the plants? what exactly did i do wrong?”
you met his gaze, allowing your hands to gently frame at his face, “are you pretending to be mad, xavier?”
he suddenly presses your front against the cold window, causing goosebumps to erupt all across your skin. his large hand was felt resting against your chin, pressing lingering kisses against you while admitting, “i’ve only pretended not to be.”
you tremble before telling him, “i thought that you were the type to calm down quickly…” yet your words die against your throat the moment you felt xavier grinding against your backside, making you feel something hard poking you. “that depends… on who i’m with.” he breathes in your scent, still grinding on you while admitting, “it also depends on how i want to calm myself down.”
you fought against the desire that threatens to course through you, attempting to keep a clear mind as you spoke to him, “xavier…! something’s off about you today…”
“i agree… it’s very strange.” with a pant, you felt him continue to slowly grind into you, “but it looks like… i won’t be easily satisfied tonight.”
with those final words, he carries you toward your couch, settling you against the leather seat while keeping a large hand on your kneecap. the warmth exuding from the palm of his hand felt on your skin causes a shudder to course through you when you tried to stop him, “xavier, we can’t do this here-“
“don’t move.” his voice takes on a low tone, your protests falling on deaf ears when he spreads your legs for him. embarrassment causes your cheeks to heat up in response to his actions, and you felt your mouth go dry when he manages to pull the waistband of your panties down, allowing the flimsy material to hang precariously on your right ankle before kneeling in front of you.
the skirt of your dress hides his face from you, yet the moment you felt his thick finger dip into your slick heat, you were given little choice but to cling to your seat as xavier wastes no time devouring you. pumping his finger in and out of your core, you felt the way he presses his lips over your cunt, tongue tracing at the borders of your center before diving right in to drink up all you had to offer. the squelching sounds of his fingers moving in and out of you echoes throughout your living room, making you cry out when he suddenly pinches at your hardened clit.
in mere seconds, you spill into his mouth, your thighs trapping xavier against you as you felt the way his groans causes pleasurable vibrations to course through you. you were in a daze now, dimly aware of the shifting of fabric before feeling something hard pressing against you. your eyes look down, witnessing xavier’s cock for a brief moment before it disappears from within the fabric of your dress.
your breath hitches, feeling xavier push up the fabric of your dress, allowing you to see the way his cock was ready to impale you. with large hands gripping at the back of your thighs, xavier brings your body closer to him before sliding his cock within your slick walls.
you both toss your head back at the sudden intrusion, with xavier holding your body against him with one hand while the other was gripping at the armrest of the sofa. he moves with quick pounds against your aching cunt, the red hot sensation of his cock stroking your walls becoming too much to bear as you cling to him.
running on pure desire alone, your legs wrapped themselves around xavier’s waist when he fucks himself over and over again into you, purposely brushing his hardened length against your clit each time he meets your hips. you cling to him with a desperation, meeting his thrusts with your own as you felt the pleasure threaten to explode-
and with another, particularly hard thrust, you felt the entirety of your release rushing out of you, earning a grunt from xavier as he witnesses your clear fluids sliding down the length of his cock.
with a broken grunt of your name, xavier falls back against the floor, taking you with him while still connected to you. your hands automatically brace themselves against his hard chest, glistening with sweat as he lay with his shirt open. “ride me, starlight, ride me… since only you can make this endless envy disappear…”
with your breathing hitched from the honesty of his words, you continue to bounce up and down his cock. even when you were sobbing from the sheer pleasure of it all, you still rode him, chasing your next high while believing that you would never get enough of him…
{ … }
dawn was close to breaking through the windows of your bedroom when xavier finally carries you back to bed. your naked bodies were both damp from the activities the night before, and you felt pleasantly sore as xavier lays you in bed.
laying beside you, you give him a tired smile and trace at his handsome features with your fingertips. “xavier, why do you think i’ll leave you?” his gaze softens while leaning into the palm of your hand, “you won’t?”
“of course not.” you giggle, gently ruffling at his hair. this succeeds in making your boyfriend smile when he takes a hold of your hand, pressing a kiss against each fingertip. when he finishes, a wistful smile lands his expression, “do you think i’m childish?”
“yes.” you admit to xavier with a giggle, earning a pout from him, “but i can’t help it.”
“i know.” you tell him with clear affection heard in your voice, moving closer to him before beginning your reassurances for him,
“only one neighbor can open the lock to my apartment. his name is xavier.”
“in terms of people, only one of them is held as my favorite. his name is xavier.”
“and there’s only one person whom i’ll never leave, and his name is xavier.”
you complete your speech with a giggle, framing at xavier’s face once more, “does this make me childish, too?”
you bask in his bright smile before feeling the way his powerful arms wrap around your frame, bringing you oh so much closer to him as you felt him whisper in your ear,
“as long as i’m like you, that’s enough. childish, brave, and loved- i want to be just like you.”
end notes: i’m so happy at how this turned out, and despite not being an xavier girlie, i hope i did his story justice 🥹

lucky numbers

time/dimension traveler! seungcheol x reader
summary: you work as a gas station attendant and cover your coworker’s night shift.
genre: lowkey crack fic or premise, sci-fi mixed with modern au, kind of deep themes mentioned, angst end, implied fem reader but can be gender neutral, lowercase intended
notes: i forget how some aspects of the lottery works just bear with me—. not proofread as always
wc: 2.9k

you’re not sure if this was worth it. you’ve seen the video games, the movies, the tv shows, and hell even the news; working, by yourself, at your small town’s local gas station is foreshadowing trouble. unfortunately, the only sound besides the late-night radio station is the tv with static crackling your eardrums.
sitting at the counter, you glance at the clock’s hands, seeing only an hour has passed since you started your shift.
you scratch your scalp out of disbelief of your character: a people-pleaser who can only hope the frat guy you exchanged shifts with will follow through when you are in need.
the tv static scratches your ears, your fingers move to cover and rub the flabby lobes as if it will heal them.
you glance around wearily, before bending over, using the crappy metal swivel chair as balance, to pick up a remote that lays under the counter. without looking above, you aim the remote upwards and turn it off, static fizzling into the air.
you let out a sigh of relief for your eardrums and sanity. you set down the remote and angle it back as if it looks like you never touched it. then, you lift your body up to sit on the chair once again, and slouch.
your eyes flicker over the clock, seeing not even 10 minutes have passed since you last checked. you look outside the windows, scanning the pothole infested pavement for any customers or potential perpetrators.
with nothing in site, you swivel off the chair and walk into the workers-only side room, which is also behind the counter.
you sit down at the desk, staring at your reflection on the black screen. with a purse of your lips, you push the button on the side to turn it on. the machine is advertised as being a ‘fast actor’ for its generation, but you pray it can improve. your nails methodically tap the desk in a rhythm as you wait.
you observe the break room, peering into the women’s bathroom. since you were the only one working till morning, you just left it open in case of an emergency.
four separate screens then emerge on the single monitor, positioned for maximum security.
a white light—brighter than the fake LED ones—zaps across the screen.
you raise your brows in confusion; as out of the corner of your eye, you were able to see the store counter. you saw no ‘zapping’.
the machine then goes back to normal—or at least what it looked like when your boss showed you how to use it.
then you hear it: rustling as if a raccoon broke into your trash and words being whispered.
you freeze. how the hell did someone get in without you knowing? it hasn’t been that long since you left the front counter and even if it had the security cameras would have shown it right?
you go to push yourself up when your mind begins playing possible tricks on you: what if it’s not a customer? the noises sound very close to the register. why would they be quiet if their frantic muttering admits they have some level of anger issues? what if it’s a burglar?
slowly, arms frozen in midair as if once you rest onto something everything will collapse, you turn in the chair as much as you can. carefully, and in tune with the fight or flight senses, you stand up, the chair creeks a tiny bit and you pause in a squat stance.
the rustling still persists. you take this as a sign that you are still clear. leaning on the locker, your fingers curl around the handle of a metal bat your boss praises for its good luck it brought him; if only it can bring you luck now.
you tip toe your way to the doorway, slowly peeking out from behind the halfway closed door.
your suspicions were somewhat accurate: someone was and is up at front counter and spitting words at himself. at the same time, his fingers flick through slips of lottery tickets; after a few slips, he runs his thumb under his tongue for a better grip before continuing his search.
your hold on the bat doesn’t drop it but you don’t tighten it either.
instead, you push open the side door with a creek. “what are you doing?”
the man’s eyes widen as he snaps his attention toward you.
you then get a better look at the built man. you squint your eyes at his creamsicle colored hair and weird clothing.
the man goes to open his mouth but you interrupt him. “you know what. whatever ritual you seem fit, i do not judge.”
he closes his mouth, and you notice his eyes narrowed in guilt or distrust. you follow his eyes to your own hand. you look back up at him and walk back towards your chair, bat dragging across the floor; your boss is going to kill you when he finds the scrape marks on the floor and bat, you could only hope this hot stranger might get you first. if you were going to die might as well go out looking all cool.
as you sit, basically in front of him, he man huffs and scans over the available selections’ pictures. his arms tense and you observe the prominent veins in his arms bulge.
immediately going into work mode and therefore relaxing (out of sleep deprivation you don’t quite understand), you use your free hand to point to the options. “lately this brand hasn’t been in the news at all for any jackpot earnings across the state, so if i were you, i would pick this one.”
he grumbles under his breath and waves you off. instead, he goes the brand you wouldn’t pick at all.
you wince at his standoffish-ness and choice. “i don’t know about that brand, sir. that one just had a massive winning so it’s unlikely—“
“17 08 04 30 95,” he interrupts, still scrounging through the stack.
you blink and stare at him. “excuse me?”
“you’re excused.” he smirks and laughs to himself, appearing proud of his comeback.
your chin drops down in bewilderment and in subtle offense. his laughter dies off awkwardly as he glances at your lackluster reaction.
he clears his throat. “sorry.”
you tap your fingers on the edge of the bat’s handle, dipping your head down and finding more appreciation to your decaying shoes. you can’t wait for this jerk-wad to leave.
you can feel his eyes glance over at your form frequently.
he clears his throat again. you don’t give him attention. it’s too late—or well early for this—and his attitude dampened your mood.
he softly talks, “those are the numbers i’m looking for.”
you turn your head so only one of your eyes can watch him.
“lucky numbers or something? that’s a lot of them and i doubt all of them would be there,” you sluggishly replied.
he lets out a sigh and rests his hands on the counter, leaning into your space a bit. “it’s..complicated. i need to buy that one before someone else does.”
you glance at the clock, seemingly no time has moved since you last took note of the hands.
you raise your brow, subconsciously leaning closer to him. you feel your cheeks become warmer—from his breath and the proximity.
your own sigh melts into his. “tomorrow, we are supposed to put out the recent shipment…” his polished brown eyes meet yours with a gaze you can’t understand at the moment. you hesitate, “i can grab out the brand you want and maybe—just maybe it’s there somewhere.”
he whispers, a plea embedded within, “that would be lovely.”
you whisper back, “okay.”
you back up from him to stand up, just processing that during this conversation you began to turn the circular metal through your fingers.
before you can enter the worker’s room, you glance at the ceiling corner, waiting for the blinking red light on the camera to blink in. it never did.
you saunter through the worker’s room with shaking hands. your mind fumbles through what the actual hell just happened.
a hot guy appears in the connivence store at odd hours in the morning and doesn’t seem to be a druggie with those types of clothes—in fact you can’t even imagine where those clothes would have came from. the man is rapidly searching through a specific brand of lottery tickets and only looking certain numbers in a certain order.
you don’t even realize you’re grabbing the box with the latest shipment.
and why are you so willing to help him? out of fear, arousal, drowsiness, or familiarity?
you briskly walk back to him, not noticing a blinking red light perpetually turned on in the women’s bathroom.
you enter the front to see the guy pacing towards the front doors, scanning outside and talking to something on his shoulder.
“here it is.” you toss the box lightly on the counter.
the loud noise causes the man to jump, his arms flexing to protect himself as he makes himself somewhat smaller.
you laugh at the sight: a grown buff man being scared from a loud noise. you glance into the dark tree-line, realizing that he still is a person.
you cover your mouth with your hand, hiding a soft smile. “i’m sorry about that.”
he straightens up and presses his head into his shoulder, saying something you can’t quite distinguish before strolling back over to you.
he runs his fingers through his hair, dissipating the small pout that previously formed.
“a rough night—“ he meets your disheveled gaze, “for both of us it seems.”
you blow air through your nose. “don’t even get me started.”
he laughs, peeks of his gums entering your sight, causing your smile to widen a bit more.
he then gestures towards the taped box. “can you or do you want me to?”
“oh! no, no i got this! i would be buried even further if i let you open this along with getting access to it,” you ramble.
you grab an army knife that rested under the counter and flick it open. the man’s eyes widen in awe as he watches you slice open the tape along its crease.
you flick the blade back into place and set it on the doubter to your side as you peel back the cardboard lid, the man hovering over it as well. holding your breath, the sight of many slips you expected to be there cause you to release it. unknowingly, leading to your head bumping against the man’s.
you both reel back, touching your foreheads in sync as you both apologize.
you then apprehensively look at one another, gesturing to dig their hands in first: he won. rolling your eyes, you fingers stretch to grasp as many lottery tickets as you can. you take the bundle out of the box and set it to the side, gearing up for another pickup as you watch the man’s arms flex once again as he picked up his own stack.
“what were the numbers again?” you ask, ready to help him search.
the man blinks. “you don’t have to help out, i’m just glad you were able to find these for me.”
you wave him off with a laugh. “it benefits me so i can possibly stay at this piece of shit job for longer.”
his eyes gloss over and he purses his lips. “why do you stay here?”
you flick through the slips—not telling him you remember some of the numbers and not wanting to seem like a creep. “i can’t apply to any other job right now. this place doesn’t even cover my rent and i want to walk out here at any moment—“
“but you can’t bring yourself to? scared of the unknown?” he interrupts.
you hum. “maybe,. well i don’t think so.”
his eyes watch over your form as he pauses in his own search. “let me rephrase that. scared of the unknown and possibly leading to being seen as a disappointment?”
you pout your lips. “17 08 04..?”
his eyes still look for continuation of the conversation, but your shut down prompts him to go along by your rules.
“does it have 30 and 95 at the end?” he inquires.
your brows furrow. “oh my god.” you flip the side over to him. “your entourage of lucky numbers actually came up!” you chuckle out of disbelief.
his eyes narrow in light anger. “i don’t have that many lucky numbers.”
you chuckle at his reaction and hand him the slip.
he scans the lottery ticket—front and back. “yep!” he pops the ‘p’.
your shoulders sag in relief. “i—wow i can’t believe they actually came up.”
he hums, still observing the ticket. “i knew it would, you still have the magical touch, (name).”
you laugh at his proclamation before stopping. you don’t wear name badges.
you clear your throat. “so what did you say your name was? since we went through this emotional moment together.”
his arm slowly drops down to the counter. that once expression-ate smile fades into a solemn one.
“se—sebastian,” he answers after a moment, not meeting your gaze.
you know he is lying, but you can’t bring yourself to say anything. he slides over the lottery ticket to you.
“write your name and turn it in first thing in the morning, okay?” he asks, that pleading undertone returns.
out of awkwardness of the situation and now wanting to be as far away from him as possible, you can only nod. you bite your lip.
out of spite, something does escape your lips. “can’t put your real name, sebastian?”
he sighs and tilts his head down, not meeting your gaze. “i’m already putting you into so much trouble by being next to you. i can’t let them hurt you even more. just trust me.”
for some reason, your eyelashes feel damp.
you whisper, “i’ll trust you.” you languidly clasp the lottery ticket, waiting for him to reach his hand out and clasp yours. he doesn’t.
he glances around, never looking at you. “sorry about the mess you’ll have to clean up…and i’m sorry. take this money and quit right now.” you wonder if he is crying as he rubs his cheeks with his arm. “that boss of yours is a piece of shit.”
you hug the slip, daring it not to be soaked with your tears.
the camera’s red light blinks on.

turns out, that ticket was the jackpot winner: a whole 970 million dollars.
you didn’t think much when you turned it in. hell, you didn’t think much when you grabbed all your things and left the gas station in the middle of your shift. your boss called many times, berating you for leaving and threatening to ruin your life.
somehow, a few days later, the scheme of him installing and spying on the girls in their bathroom was revealed. when you watched the news segment on it—on the brand new tv you bought—it appeared to have been hidden in a spot you don’t even recognize; only someone who knew this was going to happen could have figured it out (obviously..).
you think back to that man every now and then. eventually, you believe you conjured him up and that the whole scenario was a dream or premonition; that theory doesn’t go far as you did win the lottery against all odds.
this reminds you of when you were retelling this dream to your friend, they brought up how you might have found a time or dimension traveler; since, according to them, lotteries are just a scheme to expose them.

“yah..that was really risky coupsie,” jeonghan mumbles under his jacket, covering his mouth to shield him from the cold.
scoups—or rather sebastian or seungcheol—kicks a pebble for some form of control.
“you told me that we didn’t need to let that lottery ticket fall into that asshole’s hands, and i didn’t,” seungcheol retorts.
jeonghan sighs, a puff of air flowing through the fabric. “yes, that was the mission. but you just had to see your partner—or well this universe’s version of them.”
seungcheol scoffs. “like you weren’t the one that redirected the shipment to their workplace.”
jeonghan giggles with a smirk, face molding into his chest as far as it can. “that wasn’t me. that was shuji—“
“don’t bring me into this.” joshua walks past the open doorway where the other oldest are conversing.
jeonghan clicks his tongue.
the second oldest now directs his attention to his friend. “well now you are their dream man, maybe when this universe’s version of you runs into them, something of recognition will spark.”
seungcheol looks away. “yeah recognition of fear and anger.” he rubs his temples, squeezing his eyes shut. “ahh, i can’t even think of this universe’s-me getting his shit beat out of him for something i did.”
jeonghan points out, “they never seem to have a mean bone in their body.”
seungcheol laughs. “this one does—i can tell when they hide it. it’s always the same habit of fiddling with something. i thought they were gonna snap when they brought out the baseball bat.”
jeonghan laughs and claps his sweater paws. “that was hilarious! i’ve never seen hoshi turn that pale when he tuned in when a loud slam reverberated through his ear piece!”
seungcheol cannot hide his proud smirk. “someone needed to give them a push—even if my life is at stake.”
the two travelers laugh together.
jeonghan’s smile softens toward his friend.

The File Explorer Replacement - The Files App for Windows!
The Windows File Explorer has been around for a while, with very few changes over the years. In this video, I'll show you an alternative to the file explorer that you might want to consider. The "Files" application. This open source application attempts to modernize the Windows 11 File Explorer while providing features that should have been added to the File Explorer by default. I'll be going over some of the application's key features, comparing it to the default file explorer and finally, I'll go over some of the things that you should consider before switching to it for yourself. Either way, I'm sure you'll appreciate some of the features that this application brings to the table.

Ana made Caleb breakfast as usual, she helped him make sure all his stuff was in his backpack like usual, and she walked him to school like usual. She tried to keep everything as normal as possible, when she got back home the other night her note was still on the counter and Caleb hadn’t mentioned anything yet, so she assumed he didn’t wake up in the middle of the night. The only thing Ana did differently was she couldn’t help her eyes darting around constantly, looking for you or any more surprises, she also had her gun tucked in her pants, covered up by her shirt. She was supposed to be done with the type of life they would involve her carrying around a gun, especially when she was with her son, she couldn’t believe she was considering your job offer.
Ana couldn’t deny that she was curious. She was struggling to find a job, ideally, she wanted something in the medical field she knew that wasn’t going to happen though. The only way she’d be able to continue helping people that way would be to keep being an underground doctor, but that very thing was what led her to getting captured and almost killed by a vampire. She wouldn’t be able to continue to make enough to live off of if she only helped specific people or didn’t do big injuries where she could potentially kill the patient. She was clean and she had no intention of slipping, but she didn’t want to give herself the opportunity to fuck things up again.
“I have a job interview today,” Ana said as the school got within eyesight.
“Cool,” Caleb mumbled.
“I’m not sure how long it’ll take but I should be done in time to get you from school.”
Caleb just nodded. Ana held in a sigh; she didn’t need Caleb to be excited for her, but he was acting like he didn’t expect much from it. She couldn’t really blame him; he’d seen her spend every day applying and getting rejected by jobs. When Ana did get an interview, she always came home already knowing she wouldn’t be called back.
“See you later,” he mumbled before running off and catching up with his friends.
Ana opened her mouth ‘I love you’ on the tip of her tongue but she didn’t bother finishing this time, she knew Caleb wouldn’t hear it anyway. She stood at the entrance until the bell rang, signaling all the kids that it was time to get to class. She waited there until all the students had filed inside and she finally lost sight of the top of Caleb’s head. Just as she turned around to walk away you pulled up in a Jeep.
Ana rolled her eyes, when you said you’d pick her up after she dropped her son off, she didn’t realize how literal you meant it. You had clearly been watching her, you knew where her son went to school and what time it started, your timing for pulling up was perfect, too perfect. She glared at you when you rolled down the window, smirking at her, your eyes were once again hidden behind sunglasses, but she knew your eyes were on her.
Ana flung open the door and jumped in the passenger seat. “If you try anything, or if this is a trick in anyway,” Ana turned in her seat, glaring into your eyes despite the sunglasses. “I will shoot you.”
“And a good morning to you,” you said, not losing your smirk as you turned to face the road again. You checked your mirrors before pulling out and began driving to wherever you were taking Ana.
“I’m serious,” Ana continued to glare at the side of your head.
“I brought you a coffee,” you looked down at the coffee in the cup holder. “I got it black; you didn’t seem like the type to want a bunch of sugar and crap in it.”
“Do you think I’m joking?”
You let out a small chuckle, but quickly covered it by turning it into a smile. Ana wasn’t sure if you were just that arrogant or what, she was tempted to shoot you just to prove to you she would. “I assure you; I am well aware you’re not joking.”
“So, do you just have a death wish then?”
You let out a humorless chuckle. Ana made a note of that, she had been joking, half joking, but it almost seemed like you did have a death wish. “You’re not going to kill me,” you said confidently. “You’re incredibly capable of that.” Ana raised an eyebrow. “But you won’t kill me, not if you don’t actually have too.”
“Where are we going?” Ana asked, rolling her eyes.
“Out of the city,” you said simply. Ana’s eyes widened; she told Caleb she would be back in time to pick him up. “Don’t worry, you’ll be back before your kid gets out of school.”
Ana snapped her gaze to you, narrowing her eyes. “How’d you know I was worried about that?” There was something about you, something Ana couldn’t quite pin, she knew you weren’t a vampire, there was nothing to indicate you were something more than human, but Ana had a feeling. You knew so much about her, what happened during her last job, about vampires, about her son, and just now, you knew what she was worried about. It wouldn’t be a completely crazy leap to think you could read minds.
“I’m not a mind reader.” That certainly did nothing to disprove Ana’s theory. “You love your son,” you shrugged. “It’s clear you’re trying to makeup to him, you don’t want to let him down.”
Ana continued to stare at you, you nailed it, she didn’t like it when others could read her just as well as she could read them. You continued on driving though, never once glancing at her. She wondered what made you tick, if you were always this calm or if it was only for her. You read her so well the night before, despite having a gun pointed at you, you knew she wouldn’t shoot you. It was the same as today, you knew Ana had a gun on her, you had to have, yet you were relaxed and driving as if the two of you were on a road trip out of the city.
The trip continued until the two of you were well out of the city, driving down a two-lane road lined with trees on both sides. It was a gorgeous drive; however, it was also out in the middle of nowhere. Ana didn’t know who you were, where you were taking her, or who you were taking her to, the only thing she knew was that you wanted her for a job, but even with that you had been vague on. The woods were thick enough that if you took Ana out there, she could be lost forever, no one would know what happened to her.
You turned on your blinker, turning down another paved road. Ana furrowed her brow until, finally, you passed a mansion, it had a long driveway, completely fenced in, and the large house sat all the way back, well away from the road. After a few more minutes, you passed by another mansion, with a similar layout. The mansions in the middle of nowhere reminded Ana of the one Abigail lived in, the place her last job took place, where everything happened, but these mansions didn’t look run down and abandoned.
You kept driving down the road, passing mansion after mansion on each side every few minutes. Ana couldn’t imagine living in a place like this, giant houses, with who knew how many rooms, several minutes apart from the next house. There was complete and total privacy, one could hardly consider them as neighbors with how far apart they were.
You finally turned down the driveway of one of the mansions. After slowly coming to a stop in front of the large metal gate, the gate was all stone and metal, the tips of the fence pointed so that if anyone were to climb it, they’d most definitely injure themselves. You rolled down your window, staring at the little box without saying a word. A second later there was a loud grinding sound and the gate slowly slid open. You rolled your widow back up and continued driving forward, the gate closing almost instantly after you crossed the threshold.
Ana shoved her hands in her pocket, fiddling around with the candy she had shoved in there. She debated for half a second before grabbing a piece of candy, quickly unwrapping it, and shoved it in her mouth. She caught you glancing at her out of the side of your eye, but you didn’t say anything. Ana straightened her back and continued to stare out the windshield as you continued to drive up the long driveway. Her mouth fell open, nearly losing her candy in the process, as the mansion fully came into view. The house was newer than the one Abigail had, but much bigger. Ana couldn’t imagine living in a house so big, she could imagine having to decorate that many rooms.
You pulled the car around, coming to a gentle stop right in front of the front steps. Ana glanced at her watch; it had taken nearly an hour to get wherever you had taken her. “We’re here,” you said, smiling at Ana before jumping out of the car.
You ran around the car, pulling the door open the rest of the way after Ana opened it. You held out your hand to help her out. She rolled her eyes, stepping out of the car and walking right past your outstretched hand. Ana ignored the small sigh you let out, choosing to continue walking up the steps and waiting for you at the front door. You quickly closed the car door and ran after her, smiling at her as you stood in front of her again. She raised an unamused eyebrow at you.
“Has anyone ever told you you’re just delightful when being interviewed?” you asked, smirking.
“I’m here for your boss,” Ana said, giving you a tight-lipped smile. “I don’t have to be anything to you.”
You let out a small hum and then put your hand on the door handle, giving Ana a mischievous smile before allowing the door to swing open. You made a dramatic gesture with your arm, allowing Ana to enter first. Ana walked through the door, turning in a circle as she took in the high ceilings and the various art and weapons hanging on the walls. Ana jumped, whipping around when she heard the large wood door slam shut. She eyed you as you walked away from the door, she hadn’t forgotten that the last time she was in a mansion, she got locked in and nearly died.
“This way,” you said, nodding your head for Ana to follow.
Ana followed you through a room, then down a long hallway. The mansion was massive, it had items in every room and on every wall, it almost didn’t look lived in though. Everything was clean and perfect but as they passed a sitting room Ana couldn’t imagine someone had ever sat on the couch or any of the chairs in the room, though there were shelves lined with old books, their spines worn from age or years of being read.
You came to a stop outside another rather large wood door. You gave a small knock, but you didn’t wait for whoever was on the other side to acknowledge it before opening the door. You held the door open, allowing Ana to step in first once again. Her eyes widened as she took in the room, unlike the rest of the house, at least from what she had seen, this room had a blonde woman sitting at a desk with five computer monitors in front of her, the wall behind her was plastered with various images, sketches, and newspaper clippings of monsters or reports of strange happenings, from all over the world. Off to the right was a peg board on wheels, with the same thing, news paper clippings, online articles and social medias posts printed out and pegged on, though unlike the wall, the board seemed to be all about the same event, in the same place.
The blonde woman stood up, stepping out from around the desk. Ana looked her up and down, she was wearing some jeans and a simple jacket. If Ana had seen the woman walking down the street, she would never have imagined she lived in a mansion and had the type of money she must have.
“Ana Lucia Cruz,” the woman said. “It’s a pleasure to meet you,” she held out her hand. “My name is Grace.”
“Nice to meet you,” Ana said, giving Ana’s hand a shake. So far, she liked Grace better than you, so she was considering the meeting a success for the moment. “And I would prefer Joey, if you don’t mind.” Grace tilted her head at the request. “For privacy reasons.”
“Of course, Joey,” Grace nodded, giving her a kind smile. “Please, join me,” she gestured to the other side of the room, leading Joey to a set of chairs next to a small table.
“Thank you,” Joey took one of the seats while Grace took the other. You moved to stand behind Grace on her left, as if you were her own person bodyguard. “I have to say,” Joey said, shaking her head as Grace offered her a cup of tea. “You have much better manners than your,” she flicked her gaze up at you, “associate.” Your only response was a smirk.
“What did you do?” Grace turned to you, exasperated.
Joey silently chuckled at the way your face fell. “You asked me to recruit her,” you said, pointing at Joey as you tried to defend yourself.
“Outside my son’s school,” Joey added. “Right after I dropped him off.”
Grace shook her head in disappointment. “How else was I supposed to do it!” you gestured widely with your hands. “This is the first person I’ve ever tried to bring in.”
“No, one else does this?” Joey asked. She figured there weren’t many people in this line of work, but she didn’t expect you and your boss to be the only ones. “Well, don’t I feel special,” she mumbled.
“You are special,” Grace said, leaning forward. “You survived something horrific, something unnatural.” Joey looked up, meeting Grace’s eyes, she saw determination, but she also saw compassion staring back at her. “Not many have the capabilities to survive something like that, it takes a particular kind of person to see a darkness like that and not runaway.” Grace leaned back in her chair. “That’s exactly the kind of person we’re looking for to join our cause.”
“Your cause?” Joey raised an eyebrow. “Y/N told me you experienced something similar to me.”
Grace tensed up, glancing at you out of the side of her eye, making you cast your eyes down to the floor like a scolded child. “I have, it’s why I do what I do. I don’t want anyone to suffer what I-what we have.”
“And you, what, just have so much money you don’t know what to do with,” Joey shrugged. “So, you might as well pay people to go fight the supernatural?”
“I mean it is the one thing that Le Domas fortune is good for,” you mumbled.
Joey’s eyes snapped to you the same time as Grace’s but for vastly different reasons. Your eyes widened as if you just realized you said that out loud. “Le Domas?” Joey whispered. “I recognize that name.” She rifled through her memory; she didn’t know the Le Domas family, but she knew she had heard of them. Her eyes widened when she realized why.
Joey shot out of her seat so fast, reaching behind her to grab the gun in her pants as soon as she was on her feet. “Don’t,” you said. Joey froze, slowly lifting her eyes to see you standing in front of Grace, in the line of fire.
Joey slowly took her hand off her gun and raised it, showing you her hands were empty. Joey wasn’t one to scare easily but the way your voice changed, the look in your eyes, Joey had missed judged you. You had been friendly with every interaction, to the point it was irritating. However, seeing you stand in front of her now, she saw it, the look in your eye, you would not hesitate to kill her if it meant protecting Grace.
“Guess you really are her guard dog,” Joey mumbled. She didn’t take her eyes off of you, she noticed the way yours darkened at her comment.
“It’s okay,” Grace said. She stood up, resting a hand on your shoulder to ease you back. It took a second, but you slowly relaxed and moved to stand behind Grace again.
“Whatever you think you know,” Grace said softly. “I promise you, it’s not even close to the truth.”
“Everyone knows the story of the Le Domas family,” Joey said, trying to relax again. She didn’t want you to see how on edge she was. She thought her guard was up before getting in the car with you, that was nowhere near to how on alert she was now. “A very rich, very prominent family, all dead, their bodies in pieces, and it all happened on their youngest son’s wedding night. They couldn’t prove she had done it, though everyone suspected, considering she came from nothing, and they were rich beyond imagination.”
Grace rested her chin on her hand as she nodded at Joey’s words. “They made a deal with a demon,” Grace finally whispered. “I thought I was marrying the love of my life and getting the family I always dreamed of,” she gave a sad smile, letting out a humorless chuckle. “Then they tried to kill me.” She looked back up at Joey again.
Joey slowly sat back down; she saw you take a step back, looking back down at the floor again. “It was a thing of theirs,” Grace continued. “If you married into the family you had to play a game, if you picked Hide and Seek then you hid, while they hunted you down,” she was staring off into the distance, seeming to be talking to herself more than anything. “If they didn’t kill you before sunrise then the whole family was going to die, that was the deal they made with Mr. Le Bail, he was the reason they had their fortune to begin with and in returned he required a sacrifice.”
“And you were…” Joey started but she wasn’t sure how to finish her sentence.
Grace nodded. “I married Alex, then that night he and his entire family tried to kill me,” she gave Joey a sad smile again. “Clearly, I survived,” she looked down at herself. “Mr. Le Bail allowed me to live and though their investigation was thorough, there was no evidence I had killed the entire family, so, since I was technically the last living relative after my marriage, I got everything,” she shrugged.
Joey nodded; she thought her night trying to survive a ballerina vampire had been bad. She couldn’t imagine thinking you were marrying the love of your life only for him to try sacrificing you to a demon his family made a deal with. “And now you use their fortune to help others.”
Grace nodded. “I try, figured the money should go to doing some good.” She cleared her throat, blinking away the tears that had seemed to begun to fill her eyes. “I also use it for payment, it’s how I pay Y/N for jobs, it’s how I could pay you. I assure you, the job may be dangerous, it may be shady at times, but the money is legit.”
Joey nodded, taking all the information in. That was one of the things she was worried about. It didn’t matter how much she could be making from a job, she still had to go through a process to make sure it wasn’t traceable and that it looked legit. Grace’s money was legit, she could pay Joey no problem and Joey could just have it go into the bank, no questions asked.
“And what about you?” Joey asked, looking at you. “What’s your story?” she tilted her head, waiting to see what kind of answer you gave this time.
Even from a distance Joey could see the way your body tensed up at her question, but you looked up, meeting her gaze. “Werewolves,” you said simply.
That piqued Joey’s interest, but it was clear you weren’t going to elaborate anymore. “Look,” she sighed, slumping back in her chair. “I admire what you want to do but I-”
“One job,” Grace said, leaning forward in her own chair. “We can call it a trial run,” she smiled. “On both sides, we can see how you do, and you can see exactly what we do, you can see if this,” she gestured around the room. “Is something you want to be a part of.”
Joey opened her mouth ready to reject the offer, even though she was tempted. “You’ll still get paid of course,” Grace said quickly. “Just one job, just see what we’re all about.”
Joey stared at Grace for a second, she could see the woman hardened by the trauma she experienced but she also saw compassion, someone who wanted to help others despite everything she had been through. Joey flicked her gaze to you, she didn’t know how you came to be with Grace but your loyalty to your boss was clear, she also saw underneath all the jokes and banter was someone incredibly guarded and trying to atone for something in their past, though Joey couldn’t image what for.
“Okay,” Joey said, looking back at Grace. “One job.” Grace smiled at that, which Joey couldn’t help but return. Joey had been curious ever since you approached her, she wasn’t sure she fully knew what she was getting into just yet though.

Love in a Hopeless Place
Chapter 9
I'm sorry for being so evil... Just kidding, here is a little more pain before it gets better 😘
Chapter 8|Chapter 9|Chapter 10|Updated through Chapter 12
Lucifer x prostitute fem!reader Word Count: 3.9k CW: Slowburn, Angst, Prostitution, Hurt/comfort, trauma, fluff, depression, anxiety, insecurity, alcohol/intoxication, fuckboi flirting
You get to the hotel and check in, it wasn't crazy fancy or anything, but it was nice, quieter, didn't reek of sex and drugs. You got up to the hotel room and, maybe because you were somewhere that didn't remind you of all of the pain from the night before, you were able to flop on the bed and fall asleep. You slept without any dreams, not a healing sleep per-se, but you had caught up on the sleep you had lost from the night before.
You look at your phone, damn, you basically slept your first day of vacation away. Oh well, vacations don't need to be productive. You stare up and the ceiling, your mind wandering from what you should do, back to Lucifer. You wonder how his day was, he probably knew his next few appointments were canceled at this point, would he be mad or disappointed? Would he remember what happened last night?
You shake your head and growl at yourself, tugging at your own hair in frustration, 'Why do I fucking care so much?!' You got up and paced the room. You ran your hands up your face and through your hair as you walked over to the window, and pressed your forehead to the glass looking out at your view for the next few days. You saw a few restaurants, bars, and stores that littered the main drag, until the name of one grabbed your attention, and made you chuckle.
"Rock Bottom, huh? Feels appropriate for tonight," you say out loud to yourself as you change into more appropriate "out in public" clothes. You were feeling like a loser, but at least you didn't want to look like one. You grabbed your purse, strapped on some heels, and hopped across the street to the bar that felt it aligned with how you felt about life at the moment.
The bar was a dive, but it was not bad. There was a chill downstairs and a spiral staircase off to one side that twisted up to another floor with some flashing colored lights and some guys singing some sad and off-pitch karaoke. Yup, this was the vibe for the night. Luckily, this bar did not seem super crowded and you were able to find a seat with ample space over near the side of the bar to set yourself at.
The bartender saw you and nodded in your direction while they were finishing a couple of drinks. "Be right with you in just a moment, sweetheart," the woman said while juggling her bottles and shakers.
"No problem," you said with a tired smile. You watched the woman flip and spin the bottles as the customers in front of her watched with excitement. You loved watching bartenders who could do cool tricks, it was not a requirement for their job of course, but you were sure it got them more tips and it always made you hope that they enjoyed what they did. Or maybe they were just trying to give themself some amount of joy in their hellhole of a job working with drunk people and their bullshit.
Eventually she passed off the drinks to the customers, tossed her towel over her shoulder, and headed over to you.
"Thanks for waiting, welcome to Rock Bottom, what can I get ya?" the woman asked you. She gave off a "cool biker mom" kinda vibe, lots of tattoos and piercings all over her, a biker looking vest and short cropped slicked back black hair with one big pink streak jutting back from her right temple, all being held back by a red bandana.
"Just a long island iced tea, please," you said softly.
"Ah, one of those nights huh?" She said cocking an eyebrow, "No problem, coming right up."
You lean more on the bar, "What do you mean by that?" you say with a sly smile and a squint.
The bartender waved her hand, "I'm sorry, you're not one of my regulars, I shouldn't joke so bluntly right off the bat. Normally, the heavier the starting drink, the more sorrow the customer is trying to drown out."
"Hmm. Well, you're observations are quiet astute, as that is exactly why I ordered it," you say with a cocky smile.
"Well, the down on their luck do happen to be our target audience," the woman says flipping her shaker and bottles again, "May I ask what we are drowning today?"
You make a raspberry sound and then rub your face.
"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to," the woman said to you.
You laugh, "No it's fine, just hard to sum up in a quick statement. Just... work bullshit and... I don't know... utter fucking confusion of my life and what to do."
The woman nods sympathetically, "Sounds like hell." She looks at you, you both crack a smile and laugh. She hands you your drink.
"Sure is Hell... Just... almost felt like I had escaped it for a little... But anyways... I won't bother you more with my bullshit," you say looking down at your drink and taking it in your hands.
The woman shrugged, "Hell doesn't got therapists, bartenders are as close as they come. Name's Brooklyn if you need anything else, sweetheart." Brooklyn said, flipping the towel over her shoulder again as she went to greet another new guest who had settled on the other side of the bar. By the way Brooklyn greeted them, they looked like a regular.
You sipped on your drink and people watched for a while. As the night went on, you ordered some food and a few more drinks, watching people some and go. The room started to fill up with more patrons.
At one point, you saw a young Imp couple come in and snuggle into a booth together, kissing and snuggling, happily tipsy and enjoying each other's company. You sighed, you missed Lucifer and the way he would hold you. You wished it was real, you wished you could figure out if anything about your relationship with him was real. It also still drove you crazy trying to figure out why you would want it to be real. It was just a job... right?
Eventually, some drunk guy sauntered up to you. 'Oh boy, here we go.'
"Hey hot stuff, what are you doing moping over here by yourself, you're to sexy to be sad," he slurred at you, leaning on the bar.
You sighed, turned on your barstool and kicked one leg over the other, "Actually, I'm just sexy enough to be sad, thank you very much. Also... just out of curiosity, does this tactic ever work for you? The whole drunken loser with a backhanded compliment shtick?" You cock and eyebrow and smile.
"Wha- pffttt. Wow, why you gotta be such a bitch? I was just wanting to show you a fun time," he said leaning more into your face.
"Oh ya? And what would that look like? A minute of disappointing fingering and unimaginative attempts at dirty talk followed by five minutes of lack-luster penetration, doggy style with my unstimulated, unenthused, bone dry cooch while you scream "You like that you dirty little slut? You like how daddy fucks your tight little pussy, babygirl?" before you combust and roll over saying you are too tired to even attempt to make me feel any amount of pleasure, let alone getting me off? That kind of fun time?" you say giving him a smug smile.
The man in front of you just stares at you slack-jawed, so mad and confused he did not know what to say. You smirk, kick one of your heels up onto the middle of his chest, "That little bit of fun public degradation is the most fun we will be having tonight. Now get out of my face." You say as you push your foot against his chest, sending the man toppling backwards into a few onlookers that parted to let him drop to the floor and flail. You get a couple of whistles, claps, and hollers as you turn back to your drink.
Brooklyn stood at your end of the bar with a big smile on her face, "Well then! I was about to get ready to tell him to piss off, but you seem to have already handled it."
You shrug, "Men like him know they have no chance with shit like lines like that. They know they are going to get shut down and honestly, they love being put in their place. It's a kink for them, even if they would never want to admit it outright. I did him a favor really. If he is able to remember any of that interaction tomorrow, he'll have jerk off material for weeks." You say looking at him still splayed out on the floor.
Brooklyn howled with laughter, "Wow! That's incredible! Hey, do you mind if I ask you a question?"
"No, I won't do you next," you say, you and Brooklyn erupt into more laugher. "Sorry, yes, ask away."
"Are you a sex worker?" Brooklyn asked. You nod. "Nice! My ex-girlfriend used to be a sex worker and she used to be able to mentally bulldoze men like that, so I was just curious. It's always so fun to watch."
"Guilty as charged, but I'm off the clock for a few days," you say.
"Ah, very good. Doing anything fun?" Brooklyn asked.
You picked up your cup and shook it.
"Just drink away your sorrows? Sounds like a bummer of a vacation," she says wiping down the counter.
You shrugged and sighed, "I just... have some things I need to figure out. Just needed some space for a few days."
She leaned on the bar, "Space from what, if I may be so bold?"
You nod, "Ehhh, it's... not something I can talk about with others."
She shrugged, "Fair enough. I'm here every day if you change your mind."
"Thanks." You finish up a couple more drinks, happily drunk and numb, thanked Brooklyn and paid for your evening, and waddled your way back to the hotel before passing out for the night.
______________________________________________________________
The next morning you wake up with a hangover, which you expected, but it was worth it. You scroll through your phone for a while, but eventually you realize that you aren't actually looking at anything , just scrolling just to scroll. You sigh and stare at the ceiling of the hotel room, the thoughts of your issue with Lucifer drifting back.
You eventually feel the thoughts start to frustrate you and you start to cry. Why was this so hard?! The thoughts did not seem to want to organize themself into anything helpful, just stagnated in place in your mind, floating around like milk soaked Cheerios. Hells, you wish you could talk to someone, literally anyone about your issues, but you couldn't. You ended up getting up and pacing again until you ended up pressing your forehead against the cold window again. You looked out at all of the stores and people walking around, until your eyes landed on the Rock Bottom. You smiled, thinking about Brooklyn and the drunk guy from the night before.
Suddenly, a lightbulb went off in your head. Brooklyn, you COULD talk to Brooklyn! You just could not give her exact details like Lucifer, Charlie, the hotel, but you could talk to her about it in more general terms. Yes! This was the answer! Well... if Brooklyn was serious about being someone that you could talk to. It... wouldn't hurt to at least ask, right?
You quickly got dressed and popped back across the street to the Rock Bottom. You walked inside the bar, it was a lot more slow during the day, but there were still a few customers scattered around the downstairs area. You saw a young man at the bar, but no Brooklyn. You were disappointed not to see her.
"Hey there!" the young man called out to you, "Welcome in, how can I help you?"
"Hey... sorry, umm... I was kinda looking to see if Brooklyn was here. I can come back later," you start to turn to leave.
"Oh! No she is here, she's just in the back. I'll go get her for you!" the young man said before disappearing into the back. A few minutes later, Brooklyn emerged from the back storage room, and smiled when she saw you.
"Ah! Afternoon, sweetheart. How are you doing today?" Brooklyn smiled.
"Hey! I'm doing... alright... Hope I'm not interrupting anything," you say rubbing your arm.
Brooklyn waved a hand, "Don't worry about it, just doing inventory, earlier to do during the day when it's slower. What can I do for you?"
"Well..." you start, looking at the floor, then balled your hands into fits to get yourself to ask, "Did you mean what you said about being here... if I needed to talk?"
Brooklyn smiled, and looked at her watch, "I'm sure I can squeeze you in for an appointment, you good waiting for my lunchbreak?"
You waved you hands, "Oh! I don't want to take away from your lunch break! Plus, I don't want you to get in trouble or anything with your boss."
Brooklyn laughed, you looked at her confused, "Sweetheart, I am the boss, I can do what I want, and right now, I want to hear about what's got you sulking to my part of town and drowning your sorrows in my bar." You smiled and nodded, you don't know what it was about her, but you trusted her. She kinda reminded you of your grandmother, in the cool spunky kinda way, also maybe a little bit of how you used to be with your siblings. You waited about an hour and a half at the bar to finish up her inventory, and then you and her went up to a little balcony on the second level of the bar.
"Welcome to my office, now tell me miss... oh fuck... I just realized I've never asked your name," Brooklyn said embarrassed.
You laughed, "It's ok, it's (y/n)."
"Well alright, miss (y/n). What's going on?"
You start, without giving away exact details, tell Brooklyn the tale of the last several months, getting hired by a powerful person to secretly be their prostitute, the sex turning into nights of supports on both sides, helping them reconnect with their child and helping them achieve their goals, how they defended you against an abusive client, you left out the extermination fight but did mention that they were wanting to keep you safe during that event, and finally the night that brought you here. The whole time, Brooklyn listened intently, nodding and sometimes asking a clarifying question or two.
At the end of that all, Brooklyn sighed. "I can see why you'd be feeling overwhelmed right now. It would be confusing to love someone and got some drunk inducted, confusing confirmation of returned feeling while in a weird role/power dynamic with them."
You nodded, "Ya..." you blinked as you processed what she had said, "Wait... what?"
She looked at you and raised an eyebrow, "What?"
You stared at her, "I... I never said I loved him."
She nodded, "Yes you did."
You stared at her, "When???"
She smiled, "With every word you said about this person, how you treated them, how you felt about how they treated you... You do love them, right?"
You thought through everything, every look, every touch, every nickname, every night in his arms, every time he showed up in your room, the way he protected you, the way you thought of him when we were alone or with other clients, the way you felt being with him and Charlie at the hotel, the unbridled fear you felt at him telling him telling you he loved you. Why you cared if you lost him. It was all because you were afraid of losing the love you felt from him. The love you felt for him.
You loved him, you loved Lucifer.
Tears poured from your eyes as the realization sunk into you. You turned to look at Brooklyn, "Oh my god... I love him."
Brooklyn laughed, "Did you not realize until just now?"
You shook your head, the tears getting heavier, "No!" you choked out, your breath heaving, "I've never knew love could feel like this. I've never felt this before!" You start to crumple inward as the tears overtake you.
Brooklyn's smile faded, "Oh sweetheart," she pulled you into a hug as you sobbed. You tried to apologize and she just shushed you.
After you calmed down, you sigh, "Ok but... how do I know if he actually loves me?"
"He does," Brooklyn said.
"How do you know?" you sniffle.
She gives you a look, "Girl, how many guys that hire hookers introduce them to their daughters and then keep bringing them around their daughter and her friends?"
You blinked.
"And if that isn't enough, he beat up another client that hurt you. He doesn't just love you. He is down bad for you," Brooklyn smiled.
"And you're sure?" you ask.
Brooklyn nodded, "100%, on my afterlife, or may Satan take my bar."
You sniffled again and laughed, "Well, I wouldn't want Satan to take over your bar... I don't know him, but I get the feeling he wouldn't be as good of a bartender as you." You and Brooklyn laugh.
You look out from the balcony, thinking about how somewhere far away, on the other side of the circle, Lucifer, the King of Hell, was in love with you. Maybe thinking about you. Missing you. It made your heart ache, thinking of how you had run away from him, when you now realize he was probably just too scared to tell you how he felt.
"Do you think he'll be mad at me for running away from him?" you ask Brooklyn.
She shook her head, "If he is any man worth keeping, and if there really is that much of a power dynamic difference, he'll understand why you did what you did."
You nod. At this point, Brooklyn had to go back to work. You hung out at the bar the rest of the night, not getting nearly as drunk this time.
The next two days, you would go back to the bar during Brooklyn's breaks to talk through new thoughts and insecurities, and Brooklyn would softly but firmly refute each one. Damn, is this what therapy was like in the living world? Life would have turned out different maybe if this was something you had back then. Oh well, it's too late now.
On your last day, you packed up your room and went to say goodbye to Brooklyn, she gave you a hug and wished you goodbye. Telling you that you were always welcome to come back and talk, and that she expected an invite to the wedding if it worked out. You both laughed.
Soon, it was time to get int the car and head back home, back to the Lounge, back to Lucifer.
_____________________________________________________________
A little bit later, you arrived back at the Lounge. You got out of the car, headed up to your room to drop off your bag, then headed downstairs to see Larry and tell him you were back.
You found Larry and he smiled to see you, "Babydoll! I'm so glad you're back. How're ya feeling?"
You smiled, "Much better, thank you for being patient with me."
"Of course! Now, here is your rescheduled appointments for tomorrow," he said handing you a list. You looked through, and were disappointed to not see "Lance" in his usual time. You looked up at Larry.
"No Lance?"
Larry shook his head, "We called him and let him know you were going on vacation, and he said he would call back when he wanted to reschedule." Ok, no problem. You could get that, maybe he just didn't want to jump on when you were going to be getting home from your break. Ya, that sounds like something he would do. He loved you, right? You could be patient.
You were patient... as days turned to weeks, and Lucifer did not call to schedule with you. Every day you lost more hope, life slipped back into the way it was before you had ever known him. Cynthhhhia watched you from the shadows of the brothel, pleased to see your decent into misery as she started to get more well paying client's again. Sure, playing nice with the customers did pay off, but so did knocking Larry's favorite girl off of her groove. And the best part? No, one would ever know.
One day you looked out the window of your apartment and sighed, "Guess you were wrong after all, Brooklyn. Looks like Satan will be coming for the bar after all."
You wanted to laugh at the idea of Satan trying to run a bar, but all you could do was cry as your newly discovered heart was now broken.
Serves you right for thinking that love was actually possible in such a hopeless place.

Charlie's phone rang, she looked over to see her dad's ID pop up on her phone. She scrambled to pick it up, she had called him several times over the last couple of week and he had not been answered. It had her worried, he had not done this since before his visit to the hotel that brought them back together.
"Dad! Hi! It's so good to see you call. Are you ok?" Charlie asked.
Lucifer cleared his throat on the other end of the phone, "O-Oh course! Why, why would anything be the matter?"
"Uhh... because you haven't answered any of my calls in weeks? Also you and (y/n) were basically here every day and now I haven't seen either of you..." Charlie waited for a moment, Lucifer struggled to figure out what to say. Hearing your name made his heart sear with pain.
"Oh uh... we've uh... it's just been busy." Lucifer said.
"Dad, did something happened?" Charlie pleaded.
"I... I'm sorry sweetie, I can't talk about this right now. I was just calling to see if you could go to a meeting for me? Please?" Lucifer pouted. That was not a good sign. Something must have happened, but now did not seem like a good time to press, not over the phone anyway.
Charlie sighed, "Ok Dad, on one condition."
Lucifer paused, "That condition being???"
"Just... just come visit sometime this week, come have dinner with me? Please?" Charlie pleaded again.
Lucifer sighed, he may not have you, but he did still have his daughter, he couldn't lose that again, "Ok, I will."
"Great! I'll see you later! Text me the details of the meeting. I love you, Dad."
Lucifer told Charlie he loved her too, then Charlie hung up, and turned to see Vaggie, Angel, Husk, Alastor, and Niffty all looking at her in anticipation.
"What kin'a scheme you cookin' up now, Princess?" Angel asked.
"Well, would anyone up for a little, community "Emotional Intervention" bonding?" Charlie was met with a room full of mischievous, sharp, approving smiles.

Coffee Breath | Quinn Hughes x Fem Reader
Summary: Quinn and Y/N go to Starbucks and Target after Team practice, and they prep for the Hughes Brawl that is being played in 4 hours.
Warnings: language, and only one kiss (it’s a peck)
A:N- I hate this sm but I needed to post smth 🫶
All i know is that you talk to much
You’ve got those big blue eyes
Drive me crazy, make me fantasize
‘Bout you baby
After team practice before the next game, Quinn and I leave the rink and we pick up some coffee. Quinn is wearing a letter this year on his jersey so, he has to take his body seriously now. All he does is workout. I’ve been dragging him to get coffee with me, just like it was in the past.
“You wnat your Gingerbread Oatmilk Chai?” Quinn says as he looks into my eyes. All I see is his light blue eyes, almost as if they were grey.
I look to his right eye, and to his left, then down to his lips, I love him. He sees my trick, and he grabs my thigh, as he moves his fingers into my warm special place.
He’s such a cunt.
“Yeah, the chai is perfect. And could I get a Gouda sandwich- the one I like.” I say as we pull into the Starbucks drive through. He turns his head as he pulls his blue hood off his head.
Said you can’t trust me
I said it’s fine.
I’m wearing the perfect outfit. Black leggings, pink sports bra, and of course Quinn’s hoodie. My shoes, are also his, they’re wayy too big, but they’re just crocs. Quinn, in the drivers seat wearing a blue hoodie, black sweatpants, and his grey slides. We’re matching. I love him.
“Mobile order for Maya Ray.” Quinn says as he looks at me with a smirk. Maya- which isn’t my name, and Ray- is also not my name nor his name. We use fake names, out of our safety, and for fun. He pulls up to the second window and he grabs the Iced Chai and swings his arm to me, and he also grabs the sandwich I asked him to get me.
“Don’t get crumbs in my car. I’ll kill you.” Quinn snaps out at me.
What an actual cunt.
“Cuntasaurus.” I say underneath my breath. I grab the drink and the sandwich and place the chai into my lap. I unwrapped my sandwich and started to bite in.
“Do you have change?” Quinn asks. Weird. He payed online, he doesn’t need more money- unless he’s going to leave a tip. Then I thought that he could already leave a tip online.
“Why.” I say in response, only after I remembered to answer his question. I was lost into thought that I literally forgot to respond.
“So I can leave a tip, I forgot to tip online.” sure. I think to myself, I know he’s lying, he’s a freaking millionaire, he should have at least $10 freaking dollars on him.
“Yep.” I say and grab my phone case. I pull the $20 out and hand it to the lady, only because I know if I gifted it to Quinn, that money wouldn’t make it to the tip jar.
“I could have done that.” Quinn says snapping at me… again.
“Well obviously not.” I say as I open the middle console that splits our seats apart. I pull out $100 dollars and shove it in his face.
a side eye is all I get in response from him.
“Shocker. You know where my money is.” Quinn says after we turn into the parking lot of a target about 10 minutes later.
he’s literally the sassiest man I’ve ever fucking met. He’s… so, teenage boy. Literal brain rot. We need to pick up some groceries so I made a list of things that I needed. Of course I made a list of things that again only I need.
“So, why did you need to stop at Target?” Quinn says as he finds the farthest fucking parking spot there is. God, he better carry me back out here. I look into his blue eyes again, he literally drives me crazy, I can smell his cologne, and that makes me insane.
He smells like flowers, but in a masculine way. It’s hard to describe, he’s just so beautiful. It’s just a normal day for us, but it’s THE Hughes brawl. New Jersey Devils vs Canucks in Vancouver.
I’m excited, but no matter what I’m going to be proud, I’ve known Luke for the longest of times, and even before I met Luke and Wuinn I was friends with Jack.
“You coming?” Quinn says as he opens my door and grabs my left ass cheek. Let’s just say his love language is physical touch, he’s really touchy, clingy and childish, but so am I.
“Yep. Also Quinner-” I say before he freaking cuts me off.
“I know. you always make your own list. Never something that I would need, it’s always oh, what do I need? And oh, I ran out on shampoo, better get ME some.” Quinn says as he mocks me. He’s such an ass. But an ass taht I love.
Again as he swipes his right arm under my butt, he grabs my back with his left arm, and he tips over to the left as he swoops me into his arms and over his shoulder. Quinn pulls my leggings over my red lacy thong that I’m wearing under.
“I hate when you do that.” Quinn states as he closes my door and locks the car. He grabs my hand and we walk to the the doors of the store.
“Do what?” I say in actual confusion.
“You tease me, then you follow up with that with oh, I’m too tired and sorry I’m not in the mood.”
Quinn seems really upset, which is why I love to do it. I pull my hoodie down over my butt and I get an cloud of Quinn. I love him. I really do.
I’m hit with this wave of horny desperation.
“Hey, give me a kiss. Please!!” I say as I stop him and we stand in the middle of the parking lot. I stand on my tiptoes and wrap my arms around his neck. I look deep into his eyes in pleading guilt.
“I know what you’re doing.” He says, he’s convinced that I’ll do the thing.
“Omg, just kiss me.” I say. But he won’t. So I grab his hand, and pull him back to the car, and I grab his keys form his pocket and unlock the doors.
“Please. Quinn I’m ready. Right now.” And I pull him into the backseat.
I pull at his silver chain that I bought him, its charm is a heart, and the back of the heart is a photo of us. When we were like 16.
“Please. Don’t. Not right now.” Quinn says as he pushes up agisnt me. I feel him getting hard. There’s truly a tent being built in his sweatpants.
“We have like 4 hours until the next game. We have time.” I say as I look into his neck ready to make a move. I can feel his pulse penetrating from his artery.
“No.” Quinn’s consistent with his answer. And I respect it. So I climb into the passenger seat and I forget about the target trip in general. And he climbs back into the drivers seat as well. And he pulls my cheek towards him. And he leans in for a kiss.
Taste like coffee.

Do you think Geta would be more chill if Caracalla got vampirised because he wouldn't have to worry about his brother's illness, or more anxious because now he has to stop his brother from going into direct sunlight?
I went so many places with this ask and then, because I'd thought it through, forgot to actually reply to it.
First? I think Geta would be immensely uncomfortable and feel grief and fear over it. Then, for a very sweet and wonderful moment, it would hit him that this way - Caracalla won't ever leave him. Not because someone assassinates him, not because he dies of his disease, not of old age, nothing. He has his brother forever now and nothing can take him from him.
Except if the assassin's know their lore. What if there's actual vampire hunters out there. What if they manage to infiltrate the palace? Geta won't be able to know what to look out for, he's never dealt with this, he doesn't even know how to kill a vampire himself so how would he know - can it be done? Of course it can be done. There's rumours. But he doesn't know how and the 10 000 tips and tricks aren't exactly reliable. Hang this and that above your door, do weird things to the vampire's sleeping body, fire works, fire doesn't work, nail them to a coffin, Roman emperors aren't buried in coffins - and then. God. Then Caracalla, still fresh to his powers and only barely recovering from his mortal death, catches a single touch of sunlight through a window. Thank the gods the window is barely more than a slit. Thank the gods it's overcast. His hand still burns, a line across his forearm which was exposed when he walked into the light, and it's blistering and red and the skin's already peeling and that's just from a touch that barely registered to either of them.
And Caracalla, frankly, is not going to be smart about it. He's scatterbrained as it is. He always was. Even if the curse would fix everything his illness ever did to him, it won't fix who he is. He'll keep walking into spots of light because he'll forget to be wary of them. He never needed to be wary of anything because Geta would care for him and stay alert for him but light? Even Geta doesn't register it.
At least moonlight does nothing to him, so the first thing they do is become completely nocturnal. And Caracalla barely sleeps anyway now. He does, sometimes, mostly around or after sunrise, but it's like he doesn't really need it for his body but more because... it's a lot to process? How he exists now.
And during daytime, Geta's demanding there's more curtains. Half the palace is just totally blocked from light now. It looks pretty good, actually, but people think more and more that the two of them are just weird. And Caracalla can't actually participate much as an emperor now, either. Everything in Rome happens between dawn and the sixth hour - mornings are all sun, all of the time. During the afternoon, particularly in the summer, it'd be reasonable to stay indoors. It's too hot outside anyway. Mornings? When the sun is so bright but the weather is still pleasantly mild? Geta's walking around shouting at the guards to close the doors. Close. The fucking. DOORS.
Yeah, I think it'll be worse for him. This, and the fact that Caracalla isn't in the slightest bit interested in keeping his condition a secret. He'll dig his teeth into a slave's neck in the middle of a banquet and answer any stare unblinking that comes his way while the blood's flowing, and Geta increasingly cannot get him to let go but he can't just straight up kill a person by biting them in front of everybody -
and I think, honestly, at some point, he realises that they can't stay. Time to make an elaborate scene; Caracalla gets to kill him, literally kill him, so that one of them is handled. Geta can "disappear" like that, even if he'll be waking up just as sun-sore the next night as Caracalla did before. The issue is convincing his brother to leave the palace, to downgrade from immortal emperor of the world to a rich exile in isolation somewhere out there as far away from people as they can get, because Caracalla is not downgrading, and he is not leaving his home. This should be everybody else's problem, he's still having fun. But Geta isn't, and now he doesn't need to worry about the next 40 years, but the next 400, or 4000. It's never going to end now.
#blorbusshmorbus#ask#gladiator ii#gladiator 2#emperor caracalla#emperor geta#this got way out of hand again lmao do you SEE why I thought I already replied#I was thinking about all sorts of concepts for like 40 minutes and then just.... called it a day
