First of all this post is not linked to what I usually do, I usually have my tumblr account quite detached from my AO3 account. But in case anyone is interested, at the end of last year there was a small gift exchange in the Halbarry fandom (in which I was fortunate enough to participate even though my gift was written in my main language, which is not English). And although the exchange is over, the page has started to share some of the ideas or hints given by the participants in case someone was inspired by them. This week I had time to read some of the prompts and several of them caught my attention, but there was one in particular that motivated me to write a small fic.

I tend to do mostly one shots, I say as more than half of the fics I have up currently have more than one chapter, but I'm wanting to do something bigger. Just not sure which to start with. And yes, I have most of these planned out, as well as begun writing them. I'm just not sure what I should focus on currently. And no, these aren't the official names. (I struggle with titles)

BirdFlash Slowburn HS/College AU:

BirdFlash w/ powers and superhero stuffs, and they also go to the same highschool. Current plan is to only have Dick and Wally attend the same highschool, but we've got some other supers of their generation in the hero side. Super slow, and long. Identity shenanigans, Dick is a theatre kid, they won't confess until in or after college (but don't worry it, opens on senior year), they will be Robin and Kid Flash at the beginning but will morph into Nightwing and Flash just cause I want to play with a little bit of cannon. probably gonna be super long, and will take me a year or more to complete.

Captain Marvel Lawsuit:

Both carol and billy (in their respective universes) facing lawsuits and media backlash, because they copied off of a fictional superhero. So, we've got the Avengers helping Carol, and Jon and Damian and some Justice League helping Billy. In Carol's (the Marvel universe) DC is the main comics company. And In Billy's (the DC universe) Marvel is the main comics company. Idk, just thought it'd be funny cause it's a real lawsuit between DC and Marvel. And I don't really like them calling Billy 'Shazam', because that's his power activation thing and it just seems weird, he can't even introduce himself as a hero.

Avengers Vacay Shenanigans:

Basically a crackfic of shenanigans. Like, they're staying at a rented cabin for a week or so. And what place would have enough rooms? So roommates, I think they might almost die for the sake of breakfast, and there may be the slightest bit of angst (which will just be me projecting about my own angsty mac and cheese experience onto Clint), other than that relatively fluffy shenanigans that would ensue on one of their vacations. I'm definitely pushing both friendships and relationships in this one. Current plan includes WinterFalcon, estabed Scott/Hope, Clint/Loki, platonic Science Bros, platonic Steve + Bucky + Sam, platonic Clint + Sam (honestly, geeks), platonic Bucky + Loki (admiring their geeks), platonic Natasha + Thor (competitive besties?), ect.

HalBarry Domestic Dreams:

Similar to a Superbat idea from frownyalfred,(https://www.tumblr.com/frownyalfred/738620242981470208/fic-idea-a-world-where-clark-and-bruce-both-get?source=share), like I think that's where this idea originated from. Simply thought it months later, and had to hunt down the og for this post. ANYWAYS, Barry and Hal have been having the same dreams, a continuous plot of a domestic life between the two. But it's kinda weird to mention to your coworker that you've been having ultra realistic dreams about being in a relationship with him. right? So they both stay silent. However, they know things that they wouldn't know if it weren't for the dreams, random phrases, or actions, all that fun stuff. So, cue awkwardness. Might be a bit of a slowburn but not as much as the BirdFlash one.

BatArrow bonding over billionaires, kids, vigilantes, and the fucking media:

the media basically forces Bruce and Ollie into a relationship, after seeing them having lunch together once and that was a business meeting. They end up fake dating, for the media, then they start to see the benefit of having another single father billionaire around. So they bond over that, and start to become official. Eventually they have the inevitable superhero secret identity reveal, and turns out their dating the coworker that they only tolerate. But they learned to love each other in the hero side too. They just deserve some love. Where else to get it from other than your childhood friend/repeated hookup/coworker?

As someone who is on the ace spectrum (demiromantic and asexual), I really like when people write about some of my favorite characters having the same sexualities as me.

I do headcanon him as demiromantic, and also pansexual.

(Down below is me explaining him being demiromantic when it comes to his feelings and also Barry + Carol...)

HOWEVER, he is... as Ollie says a space tomcat, he takes on emotions much more seriously in my hc. He can do whatever, but when it comes to how he feels romantically it became a lot harder for him to express himself romantically too. <- Trouble with love genuinely but with trying to tell people anything related with love has been a topic for him. Which is also an explaination of the acts that he does for the people he cares about because it REPLACES him trying to explain his feelngs. When you think about it, the way Hal shows his love towards people or showing that he cares comes into a lot of wild acts or making sure that he'll come to the ends of the Earth when it comes to someone. (Like in your post, which I forgot to reblog and add to it :3, in DC vs Vampires, how Hal wanted to rule the world with Barry....) ------ Unrelated but related-- While yes, he does save people, Hal is deepened through emotional bonds both platonically and romantically... (I like to take this literal, as a form of being bonded by lantern ring emotion such as Carol with holding to Star Sapphire and Barry with being expressed by HAL to hold the mantle of hope, because it took years with these two for Hal to be linked with them in some type of way -> Sorry, I'm kinda normal about the bond Carol and Hal have, there's many levels of a relationship that these two have -- Including Barry and Hal together. There's a lot of things to talk about these two.)

This first occurs with Carol. As they grew older (Teen years to Adulthood <- Before JL), it gave Hal time of falling for her. Whether it was those long talks out on drives or opening up to each other about the deeper things. Plus, bringing in the things they face together and the collaborations these two agree on or disagree or OVERALL the way they communicate through different forms when it came to both in suit and out of suit. One of my thoughts for my Demiromantic Hal hc. Not only this but they also have a deep connection together later when it comes the Star Sapphire Possessions + Hal being Reborn in Spectre while Carol has presumably moved on. Although it took a bit to figure himself out, he both cares and loves Carol in impossible ways that could be explained. Which leads me to the next case...

(I had to ramble about them... They are like the best friends ever + including Barry and Iris when they come along.)

Sharing to add on for your post... But this is ALSO an idea I've been having for a fic... But I don't have time to write it ALL because I want to make it to many chapters. Be Prepared because I like when you mention HalBarry to me, I get happy because I don't talk about it to people. I also love to hear HalBarry thoughts because I project things that people don't get much like what I'm about to write..

The way Hal feels when it comes to being in love, is partially dumbfounded, it's something that sets him back when he realizes that there's an elephant in the room. One he describes as longing in a way where he didn't know he felt this fast. When in reality it has been years since this friendship. Yes, feelings for one of his best friends. One that he's been friends with since the beginning of the Justice League formation. Which was long... His hair is grey and the smile that was once without wrinkles now forms lines whenever he smiles or laughs.. In his mind, it feels that the feelings that are coming into play feel dangerous. How it makes his palms sweat just being near Barry. How when he isn't being occupied by anything busy, he's thinking about a fond memory with Barry. How Barry makes him smile, the way everything about his friend just makes him giddy like some teenage puppy love. Something he never got to experience but god, when he's with Barry, he feels so young. That even imagining them growing old together is just one step to keeping Hal feeling so young. It's like being awkward when you have no idea where to put your hands. Especially with a friend you've had for many years. A friend who's been there by his side that Hal now begins to think an eye for god knows how many minutes. The friendship teasing between the two and the playful chases that they would take on those evenings when everything just seemed perfect. How standing on that cliff when they were younger, the intimacy of the stare they held. Their deep connection that brings Hal to appreciate every moment he's had with him. How they're practically linked in color. How hope filled the willpower that settled in his personality. That when it came to Barry, it felt like he might have something to lose. Something and someone he's lost before. He knows what it felt to lose Barry. Which one proved his love for Barry to be a lot stronger than what he first thought when it came to the last glimpse of friendship. How that bond turned into a strong form for what Hal should keep fighting for. It was so unexpected. So unexpected to be in love with your best friend.

I'm really just a silly who love drawing her favorite characters...

Below is some ramble about my drawing journey ~

I have to thank a friend of mine, who I met during university. She was the one who helped me to find joy in drawing, taught me how to draw anatomy more correctly (I'm still bad at it but I now can see where I do wrong, even though I cannot fix those problems yet lol). I learned a lot watching her drawing in our classes together (we really did not pay attention to class.....). Yeah, she was also the one who pulled me into Hetalia....!

I drew some commissions during this time with dirt cheap prices like $3-$10 for full colored pictures that took me at least 2-3 days to complete lol. Here is the very first commission I made in 2016, I still like it very much (I nuked my dA account so yeah, I have no idea who was the customer for this one...I'm sorry ; - ;; )

My happiest moment was when I gave customer two sketch options and they said they wanted both lol....

Then after Uni, I went to work and was severely burned out...I did drew some arts for HalBarry but it was 5 years ago (wow time flies...). After them, I drew very little to the point of none. It must have been at least 4 years since I was last serious about drawing.

Until the beginning of this year, I got to work from home, yay, I finally have time and pick up my pen again. At this point, I have to thank Patalliro and BanMara for making me pick up drawing again xD!!! Then I fell back into the old pit (yes it's you ZeroX), reading their doujin, seeing all the wonderful artworks and fanfics about them on Pixiv, I suddenly want to contribute too. I love them so I want to draw them out, I want to materialize my plots for them...I want to force people to look at my creations so I post them online haha-

Though my job right now is kinda unstable (good pay for single adult though) and I'm in early mid life crisis of what I really want to do with my life...I like my current situation, it's like my dream job and situation, but as I said, it's not stable, it could end anytime. And at my age (I'm not THAT old but the job market is really harsh where I live), it's really hard to find a new job, but oh well, I guess thing is as good as it gets, I hope teehee

How does this work?

Participants submit 3-5 prompts and some other information, which is sent to another participant to create a gift.  Participants post their gifts between January 20th and January 26th 2025 to the Ao3 collection, and/or to Tumblr using #HalbarrySecretSanta2024

This is a digital exchange; there will be no physical exchange of gifts.  The only information that will be shared with your gift giver are your Tumblr/Ao3 usernames, and your prompts/preferences entered in the sign-up form

Have you thought about writing a temeraire halbarry au?

Oh absolutely. For sure. I daydream about it near constantly, but this is a case of "none of my ideas are good enough for my faves" and I just can't decide on which angle I would want to tackle it. I'm hiding my full answer under the read more because it ended up being.... longer than expected and IDK if you intended to open the floodgates of my Halbarry + Temeraire feelings.

But yes, this is a 10/10 question, anon. If I ever get around to writing it, that fic would be niche as hell, but I feel like it would be my crowning achievement.

I tend to see Barry (and all the speedsters tbh) with a lightweight courrier dragon like a Plein-vite or a Winchester mostly because these species are described as being lightning quick (heh), can travel very long distances and have a fighting style that just fits speedsters well. Hal's would be a nocturnal heavyweight like the Fleur-de-nuit because I feel like those species would thrive the best in space. Hal could either inherit his dragon from his dad for maximum angst or he could become a dragon captain after enrolling in the aviator's corp, as a simple wink to his air force background.

It would either be a historical setting (but probably not during the Napoleonic war like in the books): they're both in the aviator corps and Hal gets stationed in the middle of nowhere as punishment for some sort of reckless behavior. He doesn't mind because that means he gets to spend more one on one time with his best friend and crush Barry - who he later learns volunteers for messenger duty to the middle of nowhere just so he can come see him. Their dragons of course, think they are being silly dancing around their feelings, they get involved trying to play matchmaker, it gets messy. I have this vision of Barry getting caught in a snowstorm and arriving late and half frozen, but Hal is happy to volunteer to warm him up.

Or, more angsty, a dragon sickness storyline: established relationship, but Hal and Barry have been apart for a few years and having to maintain the relationship through letters because of postings on different ends of the globe. Their reunion is not at all the happy reunion Hal expected and it's actually kind of shitty because they're both frantically looking for a cure before their dragons die. Tensions run high, they get on each other's nerves, but in the end they do remember that it's actually easier to go through a hard time with someone you love, they kiss and make up, they find the cure.

OR I would stay closer to the superhero setting and have fun with that: Hal gets his ring and rolls up to OA with a huge dragon in tow to the big surprise everyone there, or Barry is slowly forced to come to terms with how much the speedforce is changing him because he sees those same changes in his dragon. We could have brand new superheroes Hal and Barry meeting for the first time and immediately recognizing each other because "I can see your dragon you know?? you're not being subtle". or we could have older, newly resurrected Halbarry whose dragons are suddenly, weirdly more possessive about having the both of them together because "what if you both die again". In all of these cases, there would be a dragon + human cuddle pile.

The possibilities truly are endless and perhaps one day I will attempt something.

Hiya!

I must say I never looked into Eobarry because I am an absolute sucker for Halbarry. Mostly because I love when it can be fluffy and fun, all of that AND my heart can't handle angst anymore because real life's angsty enough. BUT I hear you and see the dynamic and I see how it could be so wrecked to have this man coming to the past to try and have a way in the life of a man he adores but who rejected him. Eobard's train of thoughts is basically : "I am gonna come to him by travelling to the past, wreck his life so much that I might have a part in Barry's said life and be with him in a way or another." Like. I see it so well, so thank you for this eye-opening experience.

I am soft so I probably won't let myself sail with that ship and HalBarry is my comfort OTP hahhaa but I UNDERSTAND (I mean, I didn't look that much into it so I might be off with my interpretation).

And since I love Hal and Bear (those blorbos) so much, I want them to be happy and healthy (which is kinda a weird thing to want for people that don't exist, but lemme hope for better things in real life by living precariously through characters I relate to so if they manage to get better I might get the hope for that as well. ♡) [oops]

I'm so sorry this took me so long to get around to answering, I'm afraid I just didn't have the focus to do it til now.

I love Halbarry too--you can probably tell by all the Halbarry I post. Their dynamic is incredible, the mutual trust and absolute love they have for each other really shines in every action. Including when they're roasting the hell out of each other. They're a great example of a platonic relationship that has all the earmarks of potential for a really cozy romance. And yes! Eobard wants so badly to be important in Barry's life that if he can't be the best thing to happen to him, he'll be the worst. I think half of the appeal of Eobarry, as things stand in canon, is the tragedy of it. The way it's doomed before it even starts. It's the worst thing that will ever happen to either of them, and it seems as if there's just no way to prevent it.

It's also just fascinating because it's so heavily rooted in time travel--the instigating event which happens at the end of their relationship from Barry's perspective, and at the beginning from Eobard's. Can Eobard be blamed for losing his mind when he sees that he's fated to die at the hands of his idol? No. Can Barry be blamed for killing Eobard in self defense and the defense of others? No. Eobarry's one of those ships where if it were to become canon in the sense of Barry giving in and being with Eobard, the way that Eobard wants (when he doesn't want to kill Barry or be Barry...) I'd riot. I'm glad you're enjoying yourself, take care and I hope things get better for you!

I took a while to answer this bc i wasn't actually sure what my answer was gonna be lol- but YES!!! i am going to make a rec list. i spent most of dec/jan focusing on halbarry secret santa but now that it's over i think i actually will compile a list of my favorite works from 2023!!!

I plan to post it on international fanworks day; i feel like that gives me some to do it and it's a perfect time haha!

I usually almost always unless it's a wank ass comment which case it gets deleted. I always love getting replies back from authors so I feel most people like the engagement.

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

The Summer of Light. Slobo was terminally ill, he was dying, and despite all efforts from everyone, despite all our love and impact on the world in general it would never be enough to save him. The Lighthouse was him, btw.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Uhhh... Well, (spoilers) Sunshine. Falling. will have the best ending ever. But shhh. We gotta get there first. Otherwise... I think almost all my little fics have nice happy endings - particularly Funfetti Cake and Befuddled in Red.

8. Do you get hate on your fic?

Lol... There's this one reviewer who is totally obsessed with Sunshine. Falling. and with each chapter I upload they almost always have something nasty to say about it being Konbart. I delete it of course. And there was another person who commented on The Summer of Light (it's probably the same person) who just really thinks I should be writing another ship instead.

9. Do you write smut?

Yes. I want to write more.

10. Do you write crossovers?

I have not written any as of now but I don't mind them. I still feel like a Mass Effect/Star Trek crossover might be fun or a Mass Effect/LOSH fic but I need an idea first. I also might do a self indulgent Jetter Mars meets Atom fic but we'll see.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

As far as I know, NO.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

YES. Under Silver Light was translated into Russian of which I am immensely proud of.

No, the closest I have ever come to this is having a friend write a fic BASED ON an rp we had.

I really hate 'favorite' questions because I have like... a collection I sort of juggle around but ATM it is the following;

I have no fic that is in limbo ❤ Sunshine. Falling. is the only WIP I have and it is on the way (after Dark Crisis: Impulse).

No idea. I think I'm pretty good at describing atmosphere though. Willpower. Spite.

17. What’s your writing weaknesses?

Not caring enough about overall quality I guess and I really DO just "Settle for done" bc I really don't... care.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Always the correct choice if it is done correctly and in a way that makes sense. I've read some fics where it's just... peppered in with no real reason and it is jarring. I thought about trying to come up with Interlac words for everyone speaking Interlac but decided on not going that route and instead being sensible and just using italics.

Halbarry Week Day 2: Power Swap/Role Reversal

omg i’m suuper late 

I had so much fun designing this! i feel like if their powers and roles were reversed they would look a lot different to the original ones. I based hal’s cowl in his god of light design and the rest the same lmao. With barry, oh man that was something, didn’t want him to have the typical one so yeah. I gave up with the background so there’s that. Also anatomy?? Never heard of.

The AU! (still working on it)

So Barry’s mother was actually killed by his dad but they didn’t put him in jail because there wasn’t enough evidence, at the time the police came to arrest him, he was long gone, but like Barry saw everything and shit, so now he works in the CCPD to do justice for the victims that didn’t get the chance at the time, like his mother. Fear? What’s that? He feel’s remorse for not stepping out when his mother was killed so now he always defend the inocent, even if his life is in danger by doing that. Literally.

Hal’s dad dead it was actually a murder, done for not other than Eobard Thawne (yeh he now has the crazy one, poor man) but everyone thought it was a weird accident, except for hal who saw a man doing something to the engine early but didn’t say anything. After his dad died he was overwhelmed by the guilt and the what if’s, his mom reassured him that he just imagined that until he ultimately believe it. He becomes a pilot and his mom isn’t an ass about it (surprisingly) and is always careful and suspicious when someone other than him touch the engine until he meets Tom Kalmaku, who later becomes his best friend and makes the Flash uniform!

The relationship with other heroes are almost the same for some minor changes, so now barry is a reckless fuck and Hal is a prankster but less hot heated, Batman is soo done.

Sort of an extention/part 2 of my previous Post-Parallax Halbarry post.

After the first few initial panic attacks that Hal has experienced around Barry, Barry and Hal began practicing all types of self grounding techniques to help against Hal's panic attacks In case he ever gets them while Barry isn't there.

The 5 4 3 2 1 technique, breathing exercises, smelling different scents like lavender, touching different objects around him (a spiky massage ball ended up working best for Hal), etc. And while all of it helps immensely, at the end of the day Hal will always prefer having Barry with him over everything else. Barry knows how to be there and present for Hal during a panic attack while also being careful not to overwhelm him further. He knows what he can offer to help pass Hal's panic attacks faster.

One day in the aftermath of another panic attack, Barry is holding Hal and Hal is convinced of himself that everything is just a fake construct he made. Just like that one time he had created a fake construct of his dad to tell him that he's proud of his son. He's convinced that Hal has become so powerful as Parallax that he had just subconsciously materialized Barry in front of him. Barry's just a construct. This isn't real

Barry takes notice of that because Hal is just outright whispering that to himself and he gently tilts Hal's head to face him, gently reminding Hal that he's not fake, he's not a construct and that he's there for Hal. Then he tries carefully reasoning that if he'd be a construct, he'd be green. Which he isn't. And it sends Hal silently crying once more. Barry wipes his tears then asks the following:

"Can I kiss you?"

Hal nods eagerly in an instant "Yes! Please, please do... Barry, please-"

Barry shushes Hal because the last thing he wants to hear from his husband is begging. Then he closes the distance to kiss Hal which is reciprocated Hungrily. Hal is kissing Barry like he's about to disappear at any moment. It's frantic and messy. The kiss slowly turns comforting and soft; Barry just feels so real against Hal's lips. No construct or dream in the entire cosmos could ever replicate the pure warmth radiating off of Barry as he holds and kisses Hal. And that's something Hal will always be certain of.

I probably asked this before but can you do a full analysis of halbarry, idk it's like i rarely see some analysis of their dynamic or as a ship

I recently saw this and thought to myself that there haven't exactly been any FULL analysis of these two together as both a dynamic or a ship. I mean I've seen people talk about these two in specific issues or mentions/team-ups but not in all of the things they've appeared in together as an item or mentioned of one another altogether. How their dynamic changes from the connection they had to earlier comics vs between and vs now.

So I WILL write a FULL analysis that will be posted (soon). And in this document we will be seeing both Hal Jordan/Barry Allen AND Green Lantern/The Flash; Basically the way the act around/with each other will for sure be different out there fighting rather than personal situations that come between them.

It won't be a full analysis but, I'll be starting where they appeared together through a JLA team-up back in 1960 within the crescent of the Silver Age, and going on from then to now (2023). This is quite a lot but I will explain things and talk about how things they come across change their dynamic or in general stuff such as deaths or rebirths, or even different writing.

(Also I will mention you once this comes out since you asked for it... But I also wanted to write about their dynamic.. they are dear to me.)
