Bayesian Active Exploration: A New Frontier in Artificial Intelligence

Two of these concepts that have attracted a lot of attention are active inference and Bayesian mechanics. Although both techniques have been researched separately, their synergy has the potential to revolutionize AI by creating more efficient, accurate, and effective systems.

Traditional machine learning algorithms rely on a passive approach, where the system receives data and updates its parameters without actively influencing the data collection process. However, this approach can have limitations, especially in complex and dynamic environments. Active interference, on the other hand, allows AI systems to take an active role in selecting the most informative data points or actions to collect more relevant information. In this way, active inference allows systems to adapt to changing environments, reducing the need for labeled data and improving the efficiency of learning and decision-making.

Bayesian mechanics, on the other hand, provides a probabilistic framework for reasoning and decision-making under uncertainty. By modeling complex systems using probability distributions, Bayesian mechanics enables AI systems to quantify uncertainty and ambiguity, thereby making more informed decisions when faced with incomplete or noisy data. Bayesian inference, the process of updating the prior distribution using new data, is a powerful tool for learning and decision-making.

One of the first milestones in Bayesian mechanics was the development of Bayes' theorem by Thomas Bayes in 1763. This theorem provided a mathematical framework for updating the probability of a hypothesis based on new evidence. While active inference and Bayesian mechanics each have their strengths, combining them has the potential to create a new generation of AI systems that can actively collect informative data and update their probabilistic models to make more informed decisions. In robotics, for example, active inference can be used to actively explore the environment, collect more informative data, and improve navigation and decision-making. Dick hallucinating Jason + Very real Jason showing up while he’s on patrol

I’ve seen a few posts about this type of head cannon and I like it so here’s my take for the misinterpreted first meeting.

Dick is doing a stakeout in Crime Alley, crouched on a rooftop.

Jason sees him and wants to tell him to fuck off, but his helmet is lost or broken, or for some other reason not on his head.

Jason: This is my side of town ya know?

Dick (squinting, definitely thinking his is a hallucination): Jason? You’re… older

He doesn’t question the outfit, or the line. Jason did live in Crime Alley after all, and if his brain needed to fill in the blanks of what an older Jason would look like… why not slap his face on the new guy in town?

Dick (sighing): Alright, I guess

Jason (confused): That’s it? You don’t care that I’m here?

Dick: well I’m kind of on the job so it isn’t the best time to break down.

Jason (still confused): …

Dick: Can we like… delay this? Show up on my kitchen while I’m eating cheese out of my opened fridge?

Dick isn’t sure if bargaining will work, he does know that when he’s tired he eats cheese and Jason usually judges him while he’s in the kitchen.

Jason does not know this and thinks this is an invitation to come into Dick’s personal life again.

Jason (surprised): you want me… to show up at your house?

Dick (unsure if indulging a hallucination is a good idea): …yea?

Jason (not a hallucination, and actually happy he wasn’t outright rejected): okay

Jason walks away, and Dick thinks he should probably call his therapist later. But first he’s curious to find out if the older Jason hallucination will actually finish this conversation in his kitchen.

So we’ve all agreed that Gotham is magically fucked, right? Like that place has ancient curses upon ancient curses like it’s nobodies business. The city was built on an evil magic swamp, a lot of people pissed off the wrong witches and all around, that shot mixed and did not age well.

It’s also common knowledge that Batman hates magic. So he doesn’t deal with that stuff. Which is as shame considering it could help deal with so much.

But do you know who’s job it is to take care it? The Champion of Magic. And who is the Champion of Magic? Billy freakin Batson aka Captain Marvel.

Problem. Billy is a hero, and people in the caped community tend to be pretty protective of their city. Batman especially when it comes to other heroes in Gotham.

Problem 2. Batman, again, doesn’t give a shit about Magic. And it’s not like Billy can hold an intervention. Cause what’s he going to say “oh by the way, your city is the magical equivalent of multiple stains that has grown into toxic mold and is in dire need of the equivalent of multiple bleaching sessions”

So now Cap is stuck. He’s also scared of getting adopted as Billy the second he enters the city.

one of my favorite things about the great gatsby is that despite being the narrator nick gives himself the "background character" role and decides that none of the things that happened are his business. he's there the entire time, follows gatsby around and generally has a very detailed perspective of all the people involved in that mess. he knows who cheated on who and why, he knows who is unhappily married, etc. this being said his mission is to watch everything and then write it down gatsby running over a woman with a car and then getting shot to death has nothing to do with him and could have not been avoided
