For adults on the Autistic spectrum
- it’s okay to still have meltdowns/sensory overloads
- it’s okay to still watch cartoons
- it’s okay if you can’t cope with a full time job
- it’s if you have learning difficulties and do things at slower pace
- it’s okay to be in your 30’s and still live with your mom and dad or one parent
- it’s okay to not have many friends or none at all
- it’s okay to live a life Neurotypicals don’t appreciate

BTW if you think calming corners, sensory rooms, and other forms of dedicated spaces to handling overload, anxiety, or intense emotions in your house is something only for kids - or even worse - only neurodivergent kids, you are largely denying yourself a very helpful resource based on social norms.
Having a space dedicated to being safe and with easy access to things to help lower overstimulation and calm intense internal experiences is something that everyone can benefit from having
Not just kids
Not just neurodivergent kids
Not just neurodivergent adults
Not just mentally ill adults
Everyone - even the hypothetical person with no mental illness or physical disability
There is nothing "immature" about having spaces organized to make your difficult times easier to handle and I think everyone should consider dedicating maybe even just a shelf or corner in their place to having an abundance of self care resources
Self care is not a limited resource and not something that you have to be "bad enough to have"
If you think its a good thing for parents to provide their kids with rooms / spaces dedicated to different ways they can self regulate, then you should agree that if you are also dealing with any levels of difficulty self regulating, that it should be a good idea and good thing to provide yourslef with rooms / spaces dedicated to ways to help you self regulate
Children and adults both have emotions and life experiences that are hard to regulate / handle and both need ways to relax and calm down
Self care, sensory rooms, and coping / calming corners are resources that can help both children and adults with those difficult moments

shoutout to ND folks who wear earbuds or headphones all the time!
shoutout to ND folks who listen to their music at a high volume!
shoutout to ND folks who get sore ears from constantly wearing in-ear headphones!
shoutout to ND folks who have exacerbated auditory processing and/or executive functioning difficulties while they listen to music!

i am once again asking people to understand that early diagnosis of neurodivergence does not automatically mean the kid is having their needs met after that. i was still fucking abused for my symptoms the only difference was i had meds that were supposed to make me "normal". (and when i didnt become normal guess what! it was seen as being my fault and the abuse worsened!)
i was still on a behavior chart at school i still constantly forgot to turn in my homework i was still too loud and too annoying and too me. and my diagnosis didnt just suddenly make anyone okay with that.

Believe me when I say that I understand how frustrating it is that people are treating things like autism and DID/OSDD systems and ADHD and such as quirky, silly little identities, instead of the very, very real and oftentimes debilitating disorders and disabilities that they are. But your frustration should be towards that, not the people who feel proud and feel empowered by their disabilities.
(I cannot possibly mention every disability and disorder, but this applies to a wide variety of disabilities)

want autistics who don’t need constant or near constant support to know that having higher support needs, not able to live alone take care of self, not being able to hide autism, all of it can be really really devastating and suffocating.
not all sunshine and rainbows, or magically accommodated and needs met.
cannot leave ableist & abusive family because need to rely on them. because cannot be independent. because too poor for residential living or support worker. because no other support.
cannot escape authoritarian country with harsh censorship (not talk about US) because no country want such disabled person. because not productive member of society. because liability. because likely to be “public charge.”
forced to drop out of school. very soon. because need life carer and college not obligated to give that. even though want to learn. want to have secure future.
scared of future. because depend on others. cannot not depend on others. forced to trust. forced to make self so vulnerable. quality of life not in own hands. not having control on own life is terrifying.
scared about what to do after drop out of school. scared when parents lose job. scared when parents get old and can’t support me. scared when they die.
scared about own life. every day. trauma every day. trauma whole life. unspeakable trauma.
so, get really upset when see lower support needs autistics say that people like me lucky.
or erase people like me in advocacy. take away our language.
because am not lucky. not lucky to have to wonder if will be locked away, abused, or even killed in near future. real threat. not just distant advocacy terms.

ADHD is getting labelled at school as the “lazy” kid and nobody understands how exhausting it can be trying to focus on something you have zero interest in.
