do ya'll ever think that if rhaenyra gave herself that chance to be an older sister to aegon and the other green children how wildly different everything could've become?
we already have that deleted scene of nyra trying to teach aeg to pronounce her name but i digress...
viserys already neglects nyra in his own way, telling the realm she is his heir but not actually teaching her her duties (as his heir or otherwise), by upholding her as his heir in proclamation he is assuaging his guilt to his wife's death (as if that's all it took), so it stands that if she got the chance and took it (as even i am aware how hard it must have been to come to terms with your new half siblings, your new half siblings popping one after another, threatening your position, from your former best friend), but if she had gripe with it and made peace with her half siblings,
i bet my bottom dollar aegon would be absolutely obsessed with his older sister, that age gap would be enough for aegon to be completely obsessed with nyra's attention, and his natural lax attitude would put nyra to ease.
helaena would find her presence soothing, as she takes enough personality that she can gather spotlight but has that undertone of maternal care (oldest daughters will always develop a maternal instinct of some kind if they're around enough, speaking as an oldest sibling lol, especially to a disjointed family function) that she would find it easy to be around her. would find her drawl of bugs boring but would indulge her nevertheless. her only sister sparking so much with life from little critters, she cannot possibly bereave her this.
aemond would have an older sister who could scold aegon for being a twat— and aegon, enamoured with nyra so much he had proposed to her when he was five, would be properly chastised and listen to whatever she said — and at the same time share her enjoyment with literature, with high valyrian and their ancestral roots. would have someone to share a lookin a room when someone made a stupid comment and share an eye roll and a giggle. would boast about their uncle daemon like a couple of fangirls.
even baby daeron would find nyra fun, her baby brother with his blue dragon against her gold, teaching him to properly care and bond with tessarion and at the same time teaching him how to have fun. the youngest brother rarely knows the taste of power. she would be most at eased with him.
even if otto bares down hard on alicent's anxiety— which is such a fucked up thing to do, and i've worked in a hospital lmao — aegon would not budge, would refuse with a hiss and gritted teeth even a whisper of treason against his sister. his sister whose skirts he clung to when they got harsh with his lack of interest in education or ruling, his sister whose disappointed look had made him cry worse than any hard hit of his grandsire, his sister who raced him with sunfyre and syrax, who made jokes on who is the prettiest dragon.
the minute alicent tells them that viserys said aegon was his heir, aegon would snort wine so hard he'd blow it out his asshole. because he was never his father's favourite, never was his son nor his child. and that hurt but he didn't care.
because nyra was his sister. and so was his heir.

i literally can’t believe we become we from this christian movie musical is making me crazy YET AGAIN. also breaking news that no one is suprised about . blind scribe… courtier?? (i’m still working that out) and knight gajeel… blah blah blah they met a long time ago and now gajeel was roped back into royal guardisms and he remembers her but she doesn’t and then they’re forced to stick together and interact and O<-< . gajeel is absolutely smitten with her as he always is. TENDER SCENES WERE LEVY POKES GAJEELS PIERCINGS WITH INTRIGUE AND THE REVEAL THAT GAJEEL WAS THAT PERSON SHE MET SLL THOSE YEARS AGO. man…..i’m just a sucker for fantasy medieval stuff.. gala scene where levys having doubts about being there and they run away into the gardens where gajeel gently explains the moves to her (teasing her all the while) so the next time they can have one dance together.. her walking stick is quill shaped and very pretty.. levy is NOT helpless she was fine and dandy before gajeel came along (initial conflict reluctance yk bc gajeel didn’t want to work for the castle again) she sneaks up on gajeel many a time and loves to give him a scare… numerous scenes where she’s facing the moon or the sea and gajeel is staring right at her instead… gajeel catching books when they’re accidentally jostled out with levy taking em out to read ,,,, ough im insane. i should think about guardian au again. heh. heh. heh..

Hii I'd like to give a lil suggestion about your rewrite character's name. Considering how the story gives off fantasy, mystical and even medieval vibes for that matter, look for names along similar lines. Like Xian totally fits the vibe but since it reminds many people of a guy (all thanks to genshin heh) maybe Xia would be more accurate.I personally like the name Raya coz it fits both ancient and modern au and has an aura to it. Im kinda out of characters here so ill j do an ask2 sorryy :3

I definitely have it in mind to give the protag a meaningful name, but at the same time we have to keep in mind that the protag is not from a fantasy/medieval world and is really just a regular person from our modern world XD; so it'd be out of place to give her a name that doesn't fit in with her background, which is that of a student (keeping this in the rewrite!)
I didn't want to reveal the chinese characters that makes up Xian's name yet since it's still up in the air (pending meaning and whether it is a strange character combo to have in current society) but definitely even this placeholder name isnt there willy-nilly without meaning to it hahaha once I have decided on a more solid name, I'm giving her the same treatment I gave a different character in the rewrite...and that is the Chinese parents/Asian family check! hahaha I ran through any characters that had a Chinese name through my family to get their thumbs up XD;
And I guess if this and the previous asks didnt reveal it already, atm the protag is of Chinese ethnicity; one or two other characters are too. It's definitely a colorful cast at the moment with characters of varying backgrounds haha... one of the things I'm struggling on in the rewrite right away is deciding proper names and backgrounds for each character whilst balancing it with that of their Hyquile counterparts orz (on that note, I am quite happy with a small fun fact regarding his name that I created for the OC that takes over Kuroo!)
As for when the next chapter of GWS is coming out, I do not have a set date for it unfortunately. I write when I can but I have priority on commissions and life atm (work hasn't been kind to me for the past year, and it's been acting up again recently... if things go south I might be jobless by the end of the year so it's a point of stress rn OTL). Due to that, I havent been able to work on C38 as much :(

Celtic Pantheon/Campaigns (5e D&D)(Long Post)
Okay, so I’m just going to get this out there, because every time I glance at the Celtic Pantheon in the PHB I do giggle a bit. Mind you, it’s not anyone’s fault, but a couple of centuries of academics bundling stuff together under ‘Celtic’ has mightily confused just about everything, and it really shows here.
(Note: I have no academic qualifications regarding Celtic mythology/history/folklore whatsoever, I’m just Irish and grew up with a lot of the Irish myths and legends as a kid. This also means I know very little about the Welsh and other Celtic myths, just to say that in advance. This is all just what I’m familiar with from growing up and a little bit of research, and might have errors)
This post is also brought to you by my idly scanning lfg posts for Celtic campaigns and seeing a lot of historically inspired Celts-vs-Romans campaigns which is … doubly funny to me if they’re using the PHB pantheon list. This is because, as you’ll see in a minute, the majority of the PHB list uses the Irish gods and we … didn’t have those. Romans. We didn’t have them. So. Heh.
(We had Roman traders, especially around the Waterford area, it’s a relatively quick hop over from Wales/Cornwall, and we have evidence of Roman … tourists, probably? There are Roman offerings at various Irish prehistoric religious sites, in the Midlands especially. So we did have Romans, in the sense of we met them, but we didn’t have Romans, in the sense of invasion by the Roman Empire)
So. The thing about the PHB ‘pantheon’. It’s kind of borrowing gods from several different Celtic pantheons. ‘Celtic’ covers a lot of distinct regional cultures that are believed (I think for primarily linguistic and archaeological reasons) to be descended from an original proto-Celtic culture. For extra fun, there aren’t many primary historical sources for most of them, as in Celts writing about themselves and their faiths. Most of the texts we have are either medieval Christian (a lot of the Irish and Welsh) or Roman (a lot of the Gaulish, Iberian, Germanic, Brythonic), so there’s a lot of cross-cultural influence and interpretation muddling it up in there before you ever get to celtic-vs-celtic.
So they’re all Celtic, but they’re all very distinct in terms of stories, culture and the attributes of their gods. There are some gods that were broadly shared under similar names between various of the regional pantheons (Lugh and Brigantia are two examples), although they could be very different in portrayal between, say, the Irish and Gaulish stories. (Where the PHB uses one of these, I’m going with what name they’re using for guidance)
(The various attributes given to them by the PHB are a different muddle of influences again, with I think a lot of it being straight D&D invention, but that’s its own story)
So, to have a look at the D&D breakdown:

This all shakes out as follows:
Irish: Daghdha, Diancecht, Goibhniu, Lugh, Manannan, Morrigan, Nuada, Oghma
Not Sure/Maybe Irish?: Dunatis
Welsh: Arawn, Math Mathonwy
Gaulish/Romano-British: Belenus, Brigantia
Straight Roman: Silvanus
So that’s more than half the list being figures from Irish mythology. And that … there’s nothing wrong with using them for an Asterix-and-Obelix Romans-vs-Celts sort of campaign. I mean, it’s your own private fantasy game, not a history lesson. Go nuts! It just … reads oddly to me. Heh. Historically speaking, very few people with Irish names calling on Irish gods would have had much cause to fight Romans. Not on any large scale, anyway.
Campaign Inspirations:
I’m going to just say, though. If you want a more historical and/or mythological feeling Celtic campaign. You have a couple of options. I’d say the easiest thing is to just look up the specific pantheons and cherry-pick your gods from there (there’s a handy Wikipedia list here)
If you want continental Romans vs Celts a-la Asterix and Obelix, use the Gaulish/Brythonic list.
If you want Romans vs Celts more along the lines of various modern interpretations of King Arthur, use the Gaulish/Brythonic and/or Pictish lists.
If you want Celtic more along the lines of full Arthurian, Excalibur, BBC Merlin, ‘dragons, druids, knights and romance’, a lot of actual Arthurian legend used Welsh myths as a base, so it’s a nice start, then throw some Brythonic on top (particularly if you want to do an 80s Robin Hood on it and throw in Cernunnos/Herne the Hunter in). If your setting is more of a fully mixed ‘Medieval England’ sort of setting, Robin Hood, King Arthur, etc, you can mix and match a whole bunch of folklore and mythology of various sources, Welsh, Roman, Norse, etc. (Alan Garner is a fantasy author who does this very well, if you want a high-fantasy example)
And if you want Celtic as in Irish myth to match the names …
If you’re going relatively low-fantasy for a more historical feel, use the Irish pantheon, and the sources you want to inspire the setting would be the Cattle Raid of Cooley and the Fenian Cycle/stories of Fionn Mac Cumhaill and the Fianna. The Five Kingdoms of Ireland (Ulster, Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Meath, with the High King sitting at Tara in Meath) makes a pretty good setting.
If you’re going more high fantasy, like the Arthurian example, use the Irish pantheon, and you want the Book of Invasions and the Battle of Magh Tuireadh as inspiration. Setting elements you can have here are the Five Kingdoms of Ireland, the Four Cities that the Treasures of Ireland came from, Tir na nOg, and the Otherworld. (Note on the four cities and their treasures: they were each guarded by a legendary bard (poet/scholar/mage), so you could go classic archmage wizard or you could throw in some high level NPC bards for fun)
There’s some very cool magic items in Irish myth too, like the aforementioned four treasures, the magic pigskin (waterskin) Lugh had the sons of Tuireann quest for (heals all wounds, but charges of various healing spells per day would probably work), the sword Fragarach (I think other D&D editions had a version, but I’m particularly interested in its sword of truth aspect that forces anyone threatened by it to tell the truth), Cuchulainn’s Gae Bolg spear, aka Belly Spear (which is made from a bone of a sea monster and is nasty – it basically grows barbs/spines once it’s in someone’s body), and basically every item ever owned/gifted by Manannan Mac Lir, who is basically the Irish god of giving away cool magic items (as well as sea god, trickster god, elder god, and the god often in charge of starting quests). If you need a quest-starter god or a god to litter magic items around your world, Manannan Mac Lir is your dude.
If you want a fantasy author that I quite like who does great loosely-based-on-Irish-myth high fantasy, I would say Michael Scott, particularly (from my reading) the De Danaan tales and Tales of the Bard. I also grew up reading Cormac Mac Raois’ Giltspur trilogy, which is an awesome kid’s portal fantasy involving some Wicklow kids winding up in Tir na nOg and fighting the forces of the Morrigan, but that’s pretty much impossible to get outside Ireland, I think.
And I promise I’m not only saying this because I personally feel like a low-fantasy ‘historical’ campaign is about the least interesting thing you could do with any of the Celtic pantheons. Honest.

Heh, Underworld is the only movie with Michael Sheen I watched before I read and watched Gomens. The first one I mean.
I like the neo-thriller style. I grew up more on medieval fantasy I think, but there was quite a bit of sci-fi too, so I really like this too. And when I watched Underworld for the first time, it restarted my interest in hybrid. I was on a kick a long time before that and that reawakened that interest into active mode again for a little while. The genetics of Underworld certainly still interest me.I dunno how they differ in the comics though.

Summary: “Virgil is a Prince who has no idea what a Prince is, kidnapped by Remus who is a mess, he is everything but at the same time nothing with the help of Janus. Because they were asked from Prince Roman. The question is, why?
Also: I'm bad at summary.”
Note: Small note: Yes, it's a fantasy AU, but does have modern things in there because I can. I'm not sure where this idea came from, I just... wanted to do this I guess.
"Shit! He got skinnier since I met him!" Remus was running away, holding on to his shoulder an unconscious male, around 30 years old no more than 1,66m. As a mercenary, he did mind kidnapping people, but it was a valid reason. "Dee you had the stupidest but brightest idea ever in accept that!"
The person called Dee, was around 1,72m, and his 25 years old, half of his face has scales, but he didn't mind as he kept running shooting magic to distracting whatever who was following them. "Shut up! I can't focus if you keep yelling!" They soon found out what they were looking for, a forest. No one dared to enter there during the night as it was dangerous.
"We are almost there, stop shooting." The kidnapper was starting to jump on the threes and obviously disappearing, soon he was followed by the mage, it took almost half of the night, till they are free from the guards. Setting a camp, and rest from all the chase. Remus was 23 years old, but he was taller in his 1,94m, he was also the strongest physically.
"I can't believe he is still a prince?" Remus said in disbelieve, now looking at the guy in question, his clothes weren't fancy, he was using well-used jeans, and a hoodie that was larger than him. Sure his clothes weren't easy to create and were done just for the prince so it was expensive but other than that? "This guy is... more skinny is that even possible?!"
Janus turned his eyes for the Prince who they just kidnaped, honestly? If he didn't know better, he would be confused as the mercenary. "Yes, he is." Brushing the fringe from the sleepy man he could see dark circles that meant that he didn't sleep in ages or at least wasn't well-rested. "I think now I know why your brother wanted to kidnap him."
"Heh, who knows what percussion it will have? I don't care, just need to return the favor." Although he said that, he was concerned, it wasn't like he didn't have a heart or didn't care for others, but he could shut up those thoughts as he puts more wood on the fire. "Rest a bit, I will take the first turn."
The mage nodded, liking or not he sure does need to rest to restore his magic, as he lays on the ground. Falling asleep quickly, he already knows Remus for a long time, so he could trust enough for that.
The mercenary stayed there quietly, looking at the night sky sometime later, he heard moving at his side, looking for the confused man who was just waking up.
Virgil was confused, his legs were tied together and his hands behind his back, panic started to rise quickly as he started to remember what happened. He curled on himself, as he tried to make himself thinner than he already was. His breath was getting chaotic and he couldn't keep calm.
"Hey dude, calm down!" He heard a voice, although he didn't have the strength to open his eyes to figure out who. "P-Please... D-Don't hurt me..." He whispered, he knew better than anyone that pleas won't work, but he couldn't help but do it, even though he was cursing under himself for how weak and raspy his voice sounded.
"I won't hurt you." The voice has a slight confusion but for the most part, was trying to keep calm and nonchalant.
"Please don't hurt me... I will be good just... Don't please. I won't run away again! Just please don't..." Virgil's voice was more steady than previous, and obviously, by the glassy green eyes, he wasn't talking with Remus, as he started to sob and cry. Murmuring pleas for not be hurt.
The mercenary was at a loss what he should do he wasn't good at comforting, so he moved to shake the sleeping male. "Dee, wake up." He kept moving the other, as finally, his partner was awake. "Don't look at me like that, but I can't... I don't know what to do... So help me?" It was sincere as he opens space for Janus to look around and soon returning where he was sitting in silence.
The mage finally understood why he was awakened as he looks to the Prince who was still murmuring pleas for not be hurt, again. "Tsc..." He tried to touch the smaller but was met with a flinch, so he just sits there in front of the other. "Hey, Virgil?" He tried to sound calm, but the other flinched more when he heard his name. "Vee?" That time the Prince didn't flinch. "Can I touch you?" A shake, well at least he was meeting with responses than just pleas.
"Intru, be alert okay? I will untie his hands" He didn't give the mercenary time to think, he was already untieing the other's hand. "Vee, look to me." Janus could see the clear fear behind glassy eyes. "I'm going to pick up your hands okay?" He moved the other slightly so both of the Prince's hands were over his chest. "Now, follow my breath." The mage wasn't sure if it was going to work or not, but he stayed there, with both hands around each of Virgil's wrist, breathing calmly as he locks his eyes with the other.
It was more than 20 minutes or so when the Prince calmed down. When he finally did, he looked more tired than before, Janus thought for a bit before untieing the Prince's feet. "Are you more calm?" Deceit asked as he looked at the Prince.
"Yeah..." Virgil wasn't sure at all if he should feel relief or anxious for what would happen next, but, at least for now, he was calm enough. Biting his lower lip as he locks his eye on the campfire. "So... What will happen to me now...?" He wanted to say how his father wasn't going to pay anything for him, and how useless it was to kidnap him but, he felt scared that they would kill him.
"Now? We are going to bring you to my brother." Remus said in disgust, nothing against Roman, but he was more butterfly, good and selfish, something the mercenary couldn't handle.
"Your... Brother?" That wasn't at all what he was expecting, he thought in tortures, or blackmail, or slavery. "What your brother wants with me?" Curiosity was winning against him, as Virgil dared to look to Remus, but it wasn't him who answered, it was the other male, who funny enough now that Virgil was looking at him, he had a nagging feeling that he already knew this guy.
"Who knows?" He wasn't going to lie to the guy, not after the panic attack the other just had, but that was obviously the worse thing to say as he could see Virgil starting to panic. "Okay, okay, stop, his brother asked for us to kidnap you, make them believe you died, or something. And bring you back to him." Janus looked to the Prince waiting for him to say something but as he didn't he kept talking. "People call me Deceit, he is called Remus, sometimes Intrusive. Remus's brother is called Roman. Do you know? Prince Roman?"
"Roman?" He had to wreck his head to remember from where this name was so... Familiar. It took him a couple of minutes till he was able to remember. "Oh... Oh! I do. He was a Prince that came once... And he never said he had a brother..." Virgil finally was starting to loosen up, although not so much, and was still scared. But for now, he was calming down his anxiety. "Why he would want me...?"
"That is something you need to ask him not me. Now I recommend you sleep, we are going as soon the sun is out." Janus said as he lays down again.
"As if..." Was all the Prince could answer as he at least tried to feel comfortable on the ground, it was more soft than the floor honestly, but it was still a bit weird, as he stares at the sky. "I did miss been able to do this..." His voice was quieter as he just enjoys the stars.
"What?" Remus finally said, as Janus was sleeping he tried to keep his tone quiet to not wake him up.
"Look at the sky? I do love seeing the stars... It calms me down..." He was uncertain as he kept his eyes open looking at the sky. "And sorry... But for more, you guys want to walk fast tomorrow I will be a dead weight... Literally."
"Okay, you're confusing me on so many levels, that is weird for me to say it. Just spit out and all." Remus didn't have the same calm or patient as Janus, but definitely was trying there.
"I'm useless and worthless and dead weight, I can't do anything on my own, and for more that I do know all the royal things, my father just... I'm a Prince just because my father needed one. But we are far away from that... I was called a slave, was treated like one, or even worse than that... I can barely walk around the castle without feeling tired. My point is... I'm sorry but... it would be more... Wiser. To just tie me up in a tree and let me die." It was a lot of self-hate, but he couldn't help, those two were gentler than anyone he had contact in the past 20 years.
Remus fall silently, he can't help in a panic attack, but he does can help with self-hate, he just didn't know if he wanted to. A long sigh as he just turns his eyes to Virgil. "Stop, those are the things that your father wants you to believe, so he can keep abusing you and treating you like shit. So you're tamed and won't lash out. So stop."
"How can----"
"I can say that because... You helped me. The day when I run away from my home, I found you... 8 years ago... When I was 15, I left my home, tired of being my brother's shadow I got into this realm and got in as a slave. You were the one who helped me to flee. I should have tried to bring you with me at that time but... I couldn't. The small-time I was here I was the slave who brought you food and water... Helped to wash your body... One day..." Remus lost himself as he closes his eyes looking at the sky again. "Dee found me, Dee was the mage of the realm where I came from, he came to make company for me and keep me safe. That is when I run away for the second time, you helped me to flee successfully."
Virgil was at loss, was it just 8 years? Sure it felt more like 20 years, was he so lost in that situation, that he lost the ability to count? He had to wreck his mind again to try to remember a 15 years old kid helping. "Oh..."
"You weren't useless or worthless, if you didn't help, I couldn't flee with Dee. The reason why I didn't argue too much about kidnapping you was because... I knew. I knew who you were, what you passed. My brother rarely goes to find me but... He did... He found me, after those 8 years, to ask me to bring you. So... Look, I'm the worse in comfort someone just... Things will change, for good Virgil. I promise. And even if my stupid brother can't help you, at least you can join me and Dee if you want." Remus smiled slightly as he moves to look at Virgil's eyes. "Just, hang in there."
This time, the Prince did start crying, but it was from relief than anything else, he could feel Remus moving to hold him on his laps and so resting Virgil's head on his shoulders, turning soothing circles on his back. "I'm sorry... For leaving you there... But... I'm back." Remus's voice was soft as he tries to calm the smaller.
Where he didn't wait to hug the kidnapper. Although he wasn't sure about what would happen when he found Roman again, he at least could trust Remus for now, soon he was sleeping on the youngest lap.
The next day, as the Prince warned, he wasn't able to walk that much, he forced himself to at least go out of the forest, but as soon they were out, he would fall on the ground. Shivering as the pain passed by all his body, all the time he didn't try to flee, instead he was holding Remus's hand with his life.
"Remus carries him, it will easier." Deceit said in a sigh, like Remus, he does know the Prince, most by the time that Roman was visiting that kingdom.
"I---Idontwannabeabother..." Virgil said way too quickly to anyone understand, yet Remus didn't care as he just piggy-back him. "Calm down, relax." With that, it was easier to travel. As they do small talks between them.
"So... Remus went from Prince to Slave to Mercenary to Kidnapper?" Deceit was mocking the other.
"What I can say, I'm unpredictable like that." It was lunchtime, so they stopped in a mountain where Remus was resting from carrying Virgil all the way there. "Virgil?"
The prince looked for Remus, tilting his head. "Hm?"
"Aren't you going to eat?" Deceit was the one to ask.
"I was supposed to?" It wasn't an answer but clearly expressed what he was feeling right now.
Remus looked to Deceit, and they both sighed. Although Remus was trying very hard to not show rage. "I should have killed that king." Was all that the mercenary said, before getting up and going outside the hole they were.
Deceit sighed again as he picked the food and brought it near the Prince. "Yes, why shouldn't you?"
"Because... Normally I would only eat when I was good? And definitely, I wasn't. I did Remus carry me all day."
It was easy to see the shock on Deceit's face, opening and closing his mouth a couple of times till he could found the words. "Virgil. I will do a series of questions and I want you to answer, whatever you feel like and if you feel like."
"Okay...?"
"Do you know what is take care of yourself?"
"No."
"Do you know what is love?"
"No. Well... Father said that what he did was for love, but... I remember that the gardener said it wasn't. But then said gardener was dead in the next day..."
"Did someone said bad things about you? For example: You're worthless, useless, or something like that?"
"... Yes..."
"Did your father abused you?"
"Define abuse..."
"Treated you like he treats a slave?"
"Oh sure. He told me that was normal... Isn't it normal?"
"No. No! You're a Prince!"
"What the difference between one and another?"
"Really?"
"Yes."
"Can you tell me, what your father told you?"
"Father said I would learn it when he passed away. He also told me that till there I would be his slave and do whatever he wanted. Sure he taught me how to portray in parties and what I should or not speak, to keep some sort of image, but he also told me that it was normal. For princes be slaves till the king passes away."
Virgil could see Deceit passing a hand over his head super annoyed. "For whatever is more sacred in this world. Your father is a dick, asshole, an opportunist, he is worse than the seven demons. REMUS!"
Soon he could see the mercenary back, where he was kinda surprised to see Deceit so... Angry. "Yes?"
"I'm going to hunt our dinner, can you stay here?"
"Yes...?" He looked confused as he looks at Virgil. "Dude, you still didn't eat?!" Although he could see the Prince flinch with the question and move back on the rock. "It's not... Calm down. I'm not..."
"Remus, he lived till now as a slave... Abused by his own father, he doesn't even know what abuse was! Or worse what a Prince is. I... Just make him eat okay? I will be back." Deceit said moving away and disappearing from there.
"Hey, how about... I start to call you Vee? Is that okay?"
"Yes..." His tone was lower as he hugs himself, scared.
"So Vee... Can I help you eat?"
"But I... Don't deserve... I did you carry... And I wasn't good..."
That broke his heart, yet Remus did move slowly closer, to sit next to Virgil, placing his hand where the other could see. "Here, look to me." With a bit of time, the other did so. "I want you to eat okay?"
"I... can't..."
"Why not?
"Because... I wasn't good, I don't deserve it. I did you carry me all the way here, and I can't stop thinking that I did something wrong, because you two seemed to be upset and angry..."
He took a deep breath as he looks at the Prince. "So... Didn't you answer Dee's questions truthfully?"
"Yes...?"
"Then that is enough for your reward. I just carried you because it would be a bother to stop all the time and... You did nothing wrong, we are upset and angry about something else. So can you eat at least something?"
Virgil took a moment to think about it, sure enough, he would receive food when he was good physically but he would also receive it when he gives good answers or just doesn't talk something wrong. "Yes..." As he moved to pick up the dry ration, although he would break it in half, giving Remus the other.
The mercenary didn't like it, half of the dry ration wasn't enough till dinner, but he supposed that at least it was something. Well, it was better than the dry bread and half of the water glass that Remus remember to bring to the Prince.
It wouldn't take too much for Virgil to finish it, although the sun was moving and it was already half of the afternoon by the sun. "Deceit right? Isn't he taking too long?"
"Yeah..." Remus needed to agree as he sighs. "But I believe in him, he will be back soon."
"Can I... Sleep? Till he is back?"
"Sure." The silence was soon back, turning his eyes at Virgil he felt bad, honestly, bad... He hated that king, he hated what he did with his own son! How he did that?! Why?! Honestly, he was glad that Roman asked for that. Hell, he was glad that his father wasn't that bad, sure he always did point how Roman was better, but at least he didn't abuse them!
When the sun was gone, Janus was back, with a horse. Holding the animal's leash and so bringing inside the cavern they were. "Let's pass the night here and tomorrow we can move."
"Did you..." Remus wasn't sure what he wanted to ask right now.
"I exploded some trees, I also picked up some apples, and then I went to pick up a horse because it's nicer than been carried around."
"Well... You will need to find an excuse for that." Remus said sighing as he shows up the half of the dry ration and explains what happened.
"They... Messed up so much... Shit." Deceit was furious and angry if he could he would kill that king himself. "Fine, luck for everyone I can think about excuses like that."
"You know... Well... How about we relax? Chess?"
"Chess."

Perhaps not for the sensitive (in regards to Drugs or abuse). Also not for john!stans.

I have been babysitting again, so cannot actually play my game. I have been building my uni, but today I felt “too much logs, winter and mountain stuff.. “ I need a break.
So, truth is, I have always envied everyone who plays medieval, or any other timeline, what is not the present one.
I took the map of Brainania, Uni hood, what Moo build, originally map was made StephSim, but Moo added more roads to it.
This is more like fantasy, mixing vikings to medieval middle Europe, to fairytale like LOTR (as I have Rivendell in there, heh)
Only managed to make one tiny area of the hood done. As I am perfectionist when it comes to hood deco. But hey, a start from a person who is as clueless about medieval times as was Alicia Silverstone about love in that movie :D

Twin Wave City.
An odd name, but then this city is odd.
Not visibly, not on the surface, but if you live here long enough, you’ll start to understand what I mean.
According to old tales told by those who still believe in the old legends - like that old fisherman who sits by the docks with an orange cat at his side - the name came about shortly after the first settlers arrived here. The land was fertile, crops growing in abundance alongside all of the fauna that used to be here, and the ocean was an endless source of fish for them, so they decided to stay.
Things were good for them, for a time.
One day, according to the tale, the ocean stilled as if frozen in time. The waves ceased to lap at the sands of the beach, the waters ceased to pound against rocks that dotted the shore line. The ocean just…stood still. The ocean became like a mirror, smooth and perfect, with no fish or animals to break it; they say that not even the stones thrown by children did anything, they just disappeared into the darkness that lay beneath the sea.
The settlers were afraid and, one by one, families started to leave. They believed that the area was cursed, that they would soon be ripped apart by vengeful spirits. That part came mostly from the mouths of those who'd taken to drinking as a way to steady their nerves, but their assumptions were fair for that time. As I’ve discovered, they probably weren’t wrong.
One family however, the family that would one day be credited as the sole founders of Twin Wave, thought differently.
The patriarch, a man known as Augustus Pendle, said that his wife had reported seeing a strange glow emitting across the ocean like early morning fog. It came, she said, from an island.
The father set off with his oldest son on a boat bound for the island that lay not far off from where the settlement was.
When they arrived, they found a cave. In the cave was a cavern and, in that cavern, was a pool of crystalline blue water, the likes of which they had never seen before. In the centre of the pool was a stone platform with stepping stones leading to it. On the platform, was a statue of a woman.
They say that she was put there by the people that originally lived in that land, but I believe that she was always there. Dominic (that's my step-father, by the way) says that you can find old carvings up in the hills that stretch from the edge of Twin Wave to the centre of Cront, and that they refer to an old ceremony in which a teenager would travel to an island to become an adult. There are, he says, a load of carvings that refer to several beings, goddesses and gods according to some, that would protect the land from supernatural entities that dwell beyond the seams of our world.
Anyway, as the story goes, the father and the son, not really knowing what else to do, made an offering of food to the woman and left, not wanting to disturb the place where silence invaded every nook and cranny.
To begin with, it looked like nothing had happened, though no one expected anything to. The sea was still frozen in time.
But as soon as the pair set their foot back on the sand of the beach, something amazing happened.
From out of the water surrounding the island, there arose two enormous waves. The remaining settlers feared that they would be flooded by the waves, so high did those two waves rise, but as suddenly as the waves had arisen, they collapsed. This caused a ripple effect that managed to get the ocean moving once again.
After that day, the settlement was known as Twin Wave and once a year, the settlers would go to that island and make an offering to the statue of the woman, followed by a celebration.
The platform collapsed years ago, sending the statue of the woman down to the depths of the pool, but the city still holds that celebration.
No one knows what happened that day. Some are content to leave it a mystery, others search for a scientific explanation, and a few believe that the mystery of the statue on the island and the carvings on the hills and the twin waves all link together, all the result of supernatural and fantastical interference.
Before the events that prompted me to start writing down this log of sorts occured, I was content to leave it all as a mystery, to put the events of the past behind me and leave them in the fairy tales my mother told me whilst growing up...
But now, after what I’ve seen and all I’ve done, I know that there isn't a scientific explanation to be found, I know that the mystery that lurks behind Twin Wave city will not be left alone. It will be discovered, by chance or by the workings of the universe, and the end won't be pretty.
I guess I have to find it out first, before it reveals itself.

Eh heh, hi. This is the beginning of a story I began somewhen last year, or the year before, but forgot about because of computer problems. It was, originally, set in our world, but I moved it into a world that is like ours, but more fantasy land like. That means the countries aren't like ours and the cities aren't like ours. It also smashes modern day elements (cars, phones, tvs) with a few elements from medieval fantasy (or any fantasy that isn't modern) that I still need to work out.
There’s kind of a magical girl thing going on, but with boys tossed in as well. The other themes, aside from magical girl (which I don’t think is really a theme), are fantasy (cause I’m predictable like that), mystery and supernatural/ anything that wasn't covered by fantasy but is sorta related to it. It is VERY self indulgent if I’m being honest with you, combining several of my guilty pleasures into one, but I wanted to have fun with it. We’ll see how far it goes as a wip.

I was recently made aware of the fact that there's a freaking Dragonlance musical (yes, made all the way back in 2014, I'm late on the news). It's uploaded to Youtube in full (according to them, it's uploaded with the permission of the creators) and with subtitles (it's a Russian production).
I went in expecting it to be just as badly made and cringeworthy as the animated movie, and I was motivated to watch it purely by nostalgic feelings about the books (they were the first fantasy books I read) and general interest in musical theater. But turns out I... actually liked it??? Not in a so-bad-it's-good kind of way, I genuinely found it enjoyable. What an unexpected turn of events.

Disclaimer: It's been ages since read the books, so if I remember something wrong, feel free to correct me.
Now, this is not the next Phantom or Elisabeth or anything like that. This seems to be a rather small production. The props and effect are minimalistic and cheap, looking more like a bunch of larpers than actors (not saying larpers can't have great props, I used to larp myself when I was younger). The singing carries the story, there is very little spoken dialogue and the actors don't dance. We do get a bunch of background dancers, who at first seem really out of place crawling on the floor while the main actors just stand there and sing.
I'm also going to point out that the Dragonlance books are not the easiest or most obvious choice for a story to be adapted into a musical. These books have long, complicated plots that often arch over several books and have a whole bunch of characters. Also, being able to open the vast world and history of Krynn to an audience who may not have read a single book is challenging. Not gonna lie, I am unsure how much someone without any prior knowledge of the series will get out of this show. They do plot explaining surprisingly well but there are plenty of times where you're going to be a bit confused if you don't know the backstory.
The musical's name is The Last Trial, and it's (somewhat loosely) based on the Legends-series, describing the rise and fall of the dark wizard Raistlin Majere, who is probably the most popular Dragonlance character ever. Well, it's a wise choice, since you can tell this story with a slightly smaller cast and don't have to prop dragons. However, I question one thing. You're really going to make a musical about Raistlin? One of his trademark characteristics is his failing health, his violent, chronic cough, resulting in a creepy, raspy voice. And this is the guy you're gonna make sing.

Oh yeah, and another thing I'm going to have to question. Are we really making this a love story? I mean, yeah, I get that all that happens between Raistlin and Crysania does also happen in the books, but I never saw any kind of romance between them. All I saw was a heartless bastard manipulating the feelings of a sensitive and naive woman. The impression I got of Raistlin from the books was a person who's asexual, aromantic and hates everyone (and who's not handsome by any standards, but rather creepy looking, especially his eyes). Not a romantic hero at all. But hey, I can kinda understand the appeal (after all, I do like such musicals as Phantom and Elisabeth, so I can totally see why a cruel and cold character gets all the fangirls; everybody likes bad boys).
The musical opens with a short introduction of this story's Greek Choir-character, Astinus. Astinus is tasked with recording the history of Krynn so he makes a good plot exposition role. I recall there being some hints that he might not be fully mortal. After the intro, stage lights reveal a violin player, who begins to play the musical's theme. The violin player stands out a little, since she's wearing modern clothes despite the story being set in a medieval-ish world. But I got to admit, the music is very, very nice, with a rather calm melody that fits the setting of a magical world of fantasy very well. This could easily be soundtrack for a fantasy movie. The beautiful music is what made me like this show.
Speaking of music, it's time for the main character to deliver the show's first song. Despite rolling my eyes at the thought of Raistlin singing with his ruined voice earlier, I have to admit, they chose the actor really well. There are at least two castings (maybe even more) of this show, and the one I saw, had Evgeny Ergorov playing Raistlin. His voice is very pleasant to listen and it carries hints of ambition, arrogance and of a powerful will that is calm and calculating but under its seeming calmness also very dangerous. I am surprised how quickly I accepted the fact that Raistlin can sing and that instead of having a voice that mirrors his suffering he has a voice that mirrors his might. The lyrics being in Russian helps, being sung in a language I don't speak a word of makes everything sound more magical and poetic. There is certain lyrical beauty to Russian and it fits the songs perfectly (obviously, since the songs were written to be sang in this language).
If we handwave the fact that Evgeny is way too pretty to be playing Raistlin (I'm presuming he's not that bad looking by het standards here, as a lesbian I'm not really the person to be judging male beauty), he looks the part and gets nicely into character. He has Raistlin's prematurely grayed hair, black robes and the staff with a glowing gem held by dragon claws. The musical goes out of its way to disrobe him, though, probably as a fanservice thing (robes really don't let you see his body well...). In the books I don't recall him ever wearing anything else, the mages in Dragonlance wore their robes everywhere like uniforms. Oh well, if wizards can prance around in muggle clothes in the Harry Potter movies, we can do the same here.
Evgeny has a rather strong stage presence. His eyes, while not as creepy as in the books, cast a very cold and powerful gaze, judging everything with distaste and cynicism but never underestimating anything in his arrogance. This Raistlin is full of pride but not blinded or hindered by it. The only trademark part of his character that I consider to be missing is his failing physical health, that creates an opposite to his powerful mind and allows him to manipulate people by using the compassion they feel when seeing a sick, suffering man. Many more prideful men would be insulted when offered help and proclaim that they can take care of themself, but Raistlin never does this; he relies on the help of others whenever it's convenient and never considers such a thing to be below the world's greatest wizard.
Astinus appears again and explains the next song number to the audience. In the war preceding the events in this show, Raistlin fought with a bunch of other heroes to defeat a dark dragon goddess called Takhisis, the primordial source of evil in the Dragonlance pantheon of gods. According to the musical, Raistlin's role was to work as a double agent – he swore an oath to Takhisis and became her servant only to stab her in the back so she could be sealed away in Abyss. It's been ages since I read the books, so I can't tell if this is how it really went. My faint memories claim it wasn't quite like that, but this is what the musical tells us so let's just go with it. Takhisis, the highest ranking of all the evil gods, is trapped in Abyss, but she still plots her escape and bears grudge to Raistlin. She can't enter the world of mortals in the waking world, but she can appear in their dreams.
Like evil, Takhisis takes many faces aside from her iconic multiheaded dragon queen form. She invades Raistlin's dreams in the form of the Dark Lady and torments him with nightmares and ominous predictions that he'll one day be her servant again and open the gate of her prison. In this version, Takhisis is played by Vera Zoodena. And wow. Just... wow.
Her Dark Majesty can easily be interpreted as a kinda succubus-like, sexy and seductive femme fatale (because god forbid we have evil female characters who aren't overly sexualized...). This kind of role is very easy to overdo and instead of intimidating and charismatic turn out to be just... cheesy and slutty. But Vera Zoodena knows that a revealing outfit and sexy posing isn't all you need for a powerful female villain. Yes, she is very much directed as seductive, but instead of making me feel like someone made her wear that costume and ordered her to pose like that, I feel that she is in complete control of everything. Vera's stage presence is amazing. Femme fatales rarely have any effect on me (well, they are usually geared towards a male audience anyway) but this Takhisis makes chills run down my spine when she sings. Her voice is so haunting and sexy, I can feel her fingers tipped with deadly claws menacingly caress my skin by just listening to it. (I'm sorry. I promise to keep the TMI to a minimum. But I'm totally hot and bothered for Takhisis.).
Raistlin's nightmares are interrupted by his twinbrother Caramon, who intuitively knows his brother is suffering and rushes to wake him up. Raistlin thanks Caramon for driving away the unwanted dreams, but remains distant. Caramon then begins to sing, advising Raistlin to give up his ambitious plan, which he now reveals to the audience; Raistlin intends to descend into Abyss and challenge Takhisis, ascending to godhood himself if he manages to defeat the goddess. We have fought our wars, says Caramon, the Dark Lady is safely locked away in Abyss and the world needs heroes no more. Well, that's easy for you to say, you're not the one getting your dreams invaded.
Let's talk about Caramon a little. He is supposed to be the opposite of his twin; physically strong but mentally not the brightest, a handsome fellow with a big heart that overflows with kindness towards his friends and family. No ambition, no selfish arrogance guiding his actions, all he longs for is a simple, comfortable life and he cares deeply about the wellbeing of his loved ones. Compare that to Raistlin, who cares not about the feelings of others, uses people as stepping stones to reach his own selfish goals and in his pride desires always more power; when he has become the most powerful wizard in the mortal world even that is not enough, he needs to challenge the gods.
While I do think the actors in this musical do a pretty decent job mostly, I have to say I'm a little disappointed in Andrei Loboshov playing Caramon. His acting is a bit wooden occasionally and he comes off as comically dumb sometimes (I mean yeah, Caramon wasn't the sharpest sword in the weapon rack but still). Also his voice is kinda mediocre compared to others. This is Caramon, he is supposed to be charming and lovable. And handsome. Again, I know I'm not the right person to judge male beauty, but compare this guy to the one playing Raistlin (who is supposed to be the ugly twin). Like, come on.
Raistlin refuses Caramon's offer of simple living. He points out that as a creepy weirdo he will never belong anywhere and will never be as accepted by others like someone normal like Caramon is. He is determined to seek godhood, and abandons his brother's company while making plans how to reach his ambitious goal. He receives a letter that informs him that a priestess of Paladine (the highest ranking of the good gods, adversary of Takhisis) called Crysania seeks to meet him. Fate seems to smile upon the dark wizard, for a priestess of Paladine is exactly what he needs for his plan...
So. Crysania. I have... mixed feelings about this character. On one hand, I admire the sincerety of her character, her genuine kindness (she is the priestess of the greatest of the good gods after all) and her determination to attempt to do the right thing. And yet she is doomed to betray her god out of her love for a heartless man. Stories about a pure maiden who falls in love with a cursed prince are numerous and the appeal of such stories is clear. However, Beauty and the Beast this is not. My main problem with Crysania is this: I fucking feel bad for what happens to her! She is dumb and naive and thoroughly amai and a very good example of what happens when a woman tries to ”cure” or ”save” a cruel man. It's not even her own fault because Raistlin manipulates the fuck out of her (and even if it were purely because of her own stupidity, victim blaming is bullshit so there!). I just want to rush in there and swoop her in my arms and give Raistlin the middlefinger like NO, you do not deserve the love of this woman, you do not get to use her for your ridiculous ego-inflating power fantasy plans, farewell and up yours!
When I read the books, I imagined Crysania looking unearthily beautiful, like a Greek statue come to life, and having an aura of holiness and piety in her voice. Here she is played by Elena Minina and damn, she is amazing. I don't know how they managed to find someone who so much resembles the official artwork of the character. I find her beauty stunning (just my opinion, there are probably a ton of people who consider her mediocre) and her voice is incredible. It's so clear, like the singing of birds and the sounds of running water on a stream, like silver bells tied to a dancer's ankle. I don't know how to describe it. I know nothing of opera or other top quality singing but I could easily imagine Elena being a truly professional singer. And this is really what made me fall in love with this show; the songs and the amazing singers delivering them.
Raistlin and Crysania meet in the city of Palanthas and have a little talk. Crysania reveals to the black mage that her god Paladine is aware of his plans and does not approve. She attempts to convince him to abandon his plan, not just for the good of mankind and the cosmic balance (the proper balance of good and evil is very important in Dragonlance pantheon) but for his own sake. Repent before it's too late and save yourself! Knowing that this is a chess piece he very much needs, Raistlin immediately goes into manipulation mode and starts to suggest things to Crysania. Oh, you came to me just as a messenger of your god? What if I told you he sent you to me for different reasons – to help me. He proceeds to flatter Crysania, praising her faith and purity (maybe to suggest that someone like her couldn't commit anything unholy, and thus can help him without fear of angering her god) and plants the idea to her head that light and dark mages aren't so black and white, and that sometimes dark magic is necessary to reach a noble cause.
Crysania listens and admits that Raistlin makes many good points but still she advises him to give up his plan. At this moment Raistlin has a coughing fit (the only time we see the fragility of his body in the musical) and Crysania's heart is immediately melted by compassion and she offers her help (as a priestess of Paladine she has healing powers). Raistlin accepts her healing magic but refuses her plea to bring him to the temple to be treated properly there, since even Paladine's clerics can't cure the curse that ruined his body. But appealing to her compassion works for his advantage, as did letting her get close and touch him (it's like he knows she's going to fall in love with him and attempts to bond with her to make it happen.). He insists on leaving but invites Crysania to meet him at the Tower of High Sorcery if she wants to speak with him more. Once she's alone, Crysania sings about how she understands that her fate is tied to this mysterious man who she used to think of as an enemy but is fast growing more fond and respecting of. She feels sorry for him and wants to save him so badly. Let the fire burn my hands, I will endure it or die trying. Meanwhile, I'm here whispering ”don't do it” under my breath. This is a very pretty song.
Astinus steps once more on stage. Crysania asks him how does Raistlin think he can break open the gate of Abyss. Astinus reveals that the gates of Abyss were locked so that they could only be opened by a black mage and a light priest working together (which the gods thought would be unthinkable, apparently, since that would be bringing together two sworn enemies). Crysania understands now what Raistlin had in mind for her. So, he thinks I'm going to be his key. Despite knowing this, she still wants to see him to learn more and asks how to find her way to the Tower of High Sorcery. Astinus tells her that the road there goes through the Grove of the Dead, making it a very perilous journey. Crysania considers this a test of courage set upon her by Raistlin and declares that she will go there.
Next we visit a charming little place called the Inn of the Last Home. The inn is run by Tika, Caramon's wife and she merrily spends time with the customers who sing and dance the night away. Tika is played by Irina Kruglova and it's a shame she has such a small role, since she has a lovely voice.
Back during the war Tika was one of the heroes and fought just as well as everyone else, but now has settled down since just like Caramon she longed for a peaceful, adventure-free life.
When I saw this character, I got worried. It looks like it might be a kender. Good grief, the goddamn kender are the worst thing Dragonlance universe came up with. * shudders* Back in my larp days there was a universally known unwritten rule among gamemasters: no more than one kender per ten other characters. Everyone obeyed this rule and good for them. I never got to play one, but a friend of mine did. She crawled under the tables and stole everyone's shoelaces.
The joyful tune is disturbed when Crysania comes in and asks if anyone can show her to the Grove of the Dead. Tika tries to convince her not to seek the Grove, explaining that wizards enchanted the forest so that non-magic users couldn't find a way to their tower.
The guests agree with Tika, no one knows what the Grove hides, for the Grove never returns its dead. Crysania is still determined, if no one comes to be her guide, she goes alone. The guests and Tika then come up with an idea to have Caramon go along to keep her safe. No one else dares to go there, but Caramon is a true war hero.
Unfortunately this is the exact moment Caramon enters the inn, drunk as a lord and holding a letter he wrote to Raistlin. Look, Raistlin sent my letter back unopened, and even wrote on top of it ”I have no brother.” The separation of the twins was hard for Caramon and he started to drink his depression away, becoming less like a hero and more like pathetic drunk every day. He sings a sad, drunken, wailing song about how this letter hurt him so deeply.
They are stealing his axe - they are kender! Out! Throw them out!
Crysania rolls eyes at such a guardian, baffled that the intelligent and well mannered Raistlin could have such a disgraceful twin and she goes forth on her own. Tika then shames Caramon for being such a wreck and giving everything up so easily like the opposite of Rick Astley and sends him after the priestess. Your brother messed with her head, now it's your job to get her back safely! Reluctantly Caramon goes, not thrilled to be back on the adventuring business.
The background dancers felt out of place earlier, but in the Grove of the Dead they fit in perfectly, creating an ominous atmosphere. These living shadows creep up to Crysania, who faces them without fear and sends them back with the power of faith. She's prevented from proceeding any further when she comes face to face with an undead warrior named Lord Soth.
In the books, the death knight was sent to assassinate Crysania by Raistlin's sister Kitiara, to prevent the opening of the gates of Abyss. Lord Soth failed in his attempt, Crysania didn't die but she was wounded. Kitiara doesn't appear in this musical, and we don't actually see Lord Soth wounding Crysania. Instead he just poses dramatically and seems to scare Crysania and Caramon from approaching the Tower. He and the rest of the shadows are sent away by Raistlin, who appears to sing a new song.
The song is all about how names have power. It's a very fitting song for a mage, but kinda out of place. I guess it implies that by the power of knowing the name and origin of the creatures of the Grove he can send them away and allow the travellers to reach the Tower. But it looks like he's singing it to Crysania, which makes no sense. Also, what is he doing there? He should be far gone by now, time travelling to the past (yes, this story involves time travelling, a kind of magic that I've always thought way too powerful to exist, since if you have the power to go back in time, wouldn't you be able to keep trying a thing over and over again until you reach a timeline where you're successful? Way too convenient for my taste in magic.).
In the Tower of High Sorcery the Conclave of Mages is holding a meeting re: what to do with Raistlin. There are the white robed light mages and the black robed dark mages, but where are the neutral red ones? Balance of power is important in Dragonlance lore, and besides the forces of good and evil there existed the middle path that was kinda allowed to do whatever they wanted because they held loyalty to neither side. They could have easily put some red mages in the background here, so I wonder why they didn't (local prop department only had white and black robes?).
The conclave calls forth Dalamar, an elf who was spying Raistlin for the Conclave while being his apprentice in dark sorcery. Dalamar reveals all that he knows of Raistlin's plans; that his teacher has time travelled to the city of Istar to look for the gate to Abyss and to learn from another dark wizard who lived there at the time. By doing so Raistlin has apparently broken some union laws the Conclave held and they are disgusted with this (I told you time travelling should be banned!). But then they decide to send Crysania back in time to Istar too, for whatever reason. In the book it was because she was injured and needed a level of healing only the clerics of Paladine back in Istar's days of greatness could offer. But here it's a bit unclear, since we don't see Crysania get wounded and the Conclave never mentions any reasons behind their decision to send her time travelling. Maybe they were just as naive as her and thought she could stop him. Crysania tells them she intends to prevent Raistlin from opening the gates of Abyss and they just... seem to go with it.
Dalamar and Par-Salian (leader of the Conclave) high five at their decision. Classy wizards are these.
One nice detail they kept are Dalamar's scars. You can see them on his chest. Raistlin wasn't born yesterday, he knew damn well that Dalamar was spying him and to show him that he knows, he burned the elf's chest with his fingertips like branding a calf. Just so you know, I'm on to your scheme and could dispose of you any time I want, I just don't think of you as a threat and don't care if the Conclave finds out because they won't be able to stop me. In the books Dalamar had a bizarre habit of flashing his scars to people. Look at what he did to me! No, stop, put your robes back on, nobody wants to see that, you kinky biscuit!
While the background people are working on propping Istar (mainly just covering everything in white), Dalamar sings a short song that reveals that he actually sends Crysania back in time because he is loyal to his teacher. Whatever you say, Dalamar. Whatever. Anyway, we have travelled back in time to Istar now. Everything and everyone is white and shiny and full of faith. Crysania is awestuck at the beauty of the city and the grandness of faith. Istar is a theocratic city state, and we also meet the guy who runs the city, known as the Kingpriest.
Good god, Alexi Tolstorkorov who plays the Kingpriest has the perfect voice for the role. It's a powerful, booming and majestic voice, making him sound like a charismatic cult leader when he preaches his truth. His voice demands respect and acknowledgment of his authority. Alexi is also rather tall, which makes him look properly intimidating. And considering they probably didn't have much of a budget, they propped him rather decently. Very good Kingpriest, 10/10.

Crysania finds Raistlin among the crowd (disguised as a cleric, because he's smart enough not to prance around in his black robes here) and informs him that Caramon got sent back with her as well but they got separated in the crowd. Raistlin didn't expect his brother to join Crysania in her attempt to stop him, but accepts this new turn of events and is already figuring out how to use it to his advantage. Raistlin tells her that he has already located the gates of Abyss here and soon they will open them together. I was expecting Crysania to tell him she has no such intentions, but here she just seems to... be too distracted by Wow such great city! Very pure! Much faith! Which is... awkward. Because this is fucking Istar, in the past. Crysania should know what happens to this city. Like, did they not teach history in whatever school priests of Paladine go to? Apparently they did not and it is up to Raistlin to open Crysania's eyes and reveal the ugly truth to the audience.
Raistlin sings a song about the corruption of Istar, how the priests are drunk with power and use it in manners that should be blasphemous to do in the name of good gods. Not only is magic and the worship of evil and neutral gods forbidden, some of the good gods are banned too and there's racism (I wholeheartedly cheer at the guards jailing kender, though.) and all other disgusting misuses of religion as justification for evil. The city if full of narcisstic men who put their own words in the mouth of god and present it as truth. It's interesting that Weis and Hickman came up with Istar, since Hickman is a devout mormon, so you'd think he's not the kind of person to present a theocracy as a corrupt cult. Anyway, Raistlin uses this moment to again cultivate in Crysania the belief that light and dark are not the same as good and evil. If priests of Paladine can be capable of such wickedness, then logic follows that a black mage can seek a noble cause. Maybe I'm not your enemy, aren't the ones who betrayed your god while claiming to serve him much more deserving to be your enemies? I only seek to rid the world of the source of all evil, while they seek to tear the whole world apart in their crusade against even the smallest shadow.
And then Crysania goes and confronts her fellow priests and the Kingpriest himself like the dumb shit she is, accusing them of their false faith and questioning their authority. Like good grief Crys, how fucking amai can you be?! Did you really think that one woman marching in front of a cultist leader and his brainwashed minions could make them see the light and better their ways by just shaming them? Like oh no, she is giving us the shounen anime protagonist Convincing Shouting treatment and telling us to give up our corrupt religion that benefits us greatly, whatever shall we do? Tell her she's right and that we are ashamed of ourselves for not noticing earlier? Or how about... we just burn her at the stake for heresy?
Seriously Crysania, did you stop for two seconds to consider what could go wrong with your master plan? Anyway, it's a very nice song between Crysania and the Kingpriest. It also shows Crysania's budding doubts about her faith. She is disgusted that she had to have this revealed to her by an enemy, that her brothers and sisters who she is supposed to trust were holding an ugly secret from her.
So, Crysania is held captive at the temple for heresy. Raistlin doesn't seem particularly concerned with this. Having Crysania doubt her faith works for his plan. Caramon gets imprisoned too, after asking people if they've seen his brother, who's a mage. Use of magic being forbidden, even family members of mages get thrown in jail. There Caramon sings a song how he trusts that his brother will soon come save him. It's sad to see Caramon projecting his own family loyalty to his brother who has never helped anyone if it wasn't relevant to his interests. You poor man, still blind to the truth that your brother can't be redeemed.
In the book Caramon was made to fight in a gladiator arena with other prisoners. This musical also makes him fight, but frames it differently. Here the Kingpriest arranges the fights to find the best warrior to be the Chosen One to deliver world of evil or something along those lines. Disguised as a cleric Raistlin declares Caramon as a volunteer to fight. He is brought to the arena but refuses to pick up his sword, because it's one thing to fight in a war and for self defence but this is just slaughter for the amusement of others and he wants nothing to do with it.
I like how when Caramon refuses to fight, his opponent strikes this seductive pose. Fight me, my love, you know you want to...
The Kingpriest is not pleased for Caramon's refusal. Raistlin explains to him that the man is an honorable knight (yeah sure) who cares not for his own life but will defend the life of another. He suggests that they bring Crysania to the arena. The Kingpriest agrees to this, and Caramon immediately picks up his sword to protect the lady. The fight is fierce and has surprisingly many real swordplay techniques used (I usually expect very little realism from stage swordfights). Yes there's still lots of unreasonable things like turning your back to your enemy and coming way too close during the close combat (you come to a distance I can punch you, you will get pommel to the face) but this is still one of the best stage swordfights I've seen. It's also unusually fast, more often stage fencing uses slower, wider strikes to make it easier to follow the fight. Here, I noticed many of the techniques used only when I was taking screenshots, they happen so fast.

I have to tip my hat to the guy who plays Purple Fake Dreads here. He is agile!

I especially like the move where he places his foot on Caramon's leg and steps up on it to kick him in the groin.

Caramon, who fought more carefully and defensively than his aggressive and impatient opponent, wins the fight, and the Kingpriest grants him and Crysania their freedom as a reward. The citizens of Istar then begin a mass with the Kingpriest, and the chanting gets more and more ominous until everything goes red. The event known as Cataclysm happens.
Angered by the corruption and arrogance of the Kingpriest, the gods threw a fiery mountain down on Istar, sinking the city to the bottom of the sea, changing the landscape and geography of Krynn permanently. Raistlin, Caramon and Crysania escape the divine wrath by time travelling again, to a timeline little after the Cataclysm. This they do offscreen.
Having witnessed the destruction of Istar, Crysania grieves for the innocent lives struck down for the crimes of a few. Her faith weakens once more. Her god doesn't answer to her call, so Raistlin asks her to follow him, which she does. After all, he is the one who showed her the truth and hasn't lied to her, and for that she respects him. She still believes that her fate is tied to the dark wizard, but she is beginning to doubt if her role ever was to help him see the light and not the other way around.
Istar being at the bottom of the sea now, Raistlin can no longer use the gates in there, much to his annoyance. However, there is a second Gate hidden in Zhaman fortress, in a well guarded dwarf kingdom. The black mage needs to find a way to get inside, and simple knowledge of history tells him how to do it.
Caramon comes to his brother, demanding to know why he betrayed him and made him fight in the arena instead of helping him escape. After listening to this for a while, Raistlin tells him that he's being an idiot; arranging for him to get chosen to fight in the arena was his plan to get him out from jail. You got yourself arrested out of stupidity, getting you to be chosen as the one to fight wasn't easy either, you know. So don't come to me claiming I didn't help you and Crysania to get your freedom so we could all escape together instead of leaving you behind to go down with the rest of Istar!
Okay, I get it, Caramon admits. But I'm still done with all of this and I'm going back home! Oh really, Raistlin comments, what a shame, I could have used your help. It hurts me to see the change in Caramon as soon as Raistlin says that, because the dumb man doesn't understand that he's just being manipulated. Caramon is so desperate for any sign of brotherly love from his twin that as soon as Raistlin hints that he could help him, he's ready to do anything. Of course I will help you in any way I can, my dear brother! You poor man, you poor faithful dog wagging your tail no matter how many times your master mistreats you.
What Raistlin has in mind for Caramon is war. Around this time in history, there was a war waged against the dwarf kingdom. Raistlin intends to make history repeat itself, and he needs Caramon to lead the army. What army, it's just the three of us, asks Caramon. And then Raistlin begins to sing, while the background dancers begin what looks like a yoga session. Raistlin is a good speaker and manipulator, he easily convinces warriors to join their attack to Zhaman fortress. Knowing history helps him, for he knows what kind of people went into this war and what their motivations were. Little by little they gather quite an army to march into war. Caramon questions if what they are doing is the right thing and that they are lying to people to lure them into an unnecessary war. Raistlin convinces him the war is inevitable, and Caramon, too eager to please his brother, turns a blind eye to the unethicalness of it all.
While Caramon is working his hardest to earn them an entry to the gates, Raistlin focuses on working his mindgames with Crysania. He needs to get her to agree to go along with his plan. So he attempts to use her compassion, and sings to her a sad song about his childhood, colouring everything a little to make himself look more like a sympathetic victim of forces beyond his control. He claims to have began learning magic purely for self defence, being bullied as kid, and then goes on to claim that magic is an addiction that can't be fought once you've tried it. He also very clearly has become aware of Crysania falling in love with him and fans those flames as best he can, being all gentlemanly and nice to her even if he's a jerk when he's with his brother. This is one thing that people don't get about abusive people; they are perfectly capable of playing nice when it's beneficial to them and just because someone is ”such a nice guy” doesn't mean they can't be monsters.
Crysania is smart enough to call bullshit on Raistlin claiming to have always been an enemy to Takhisis, pointing out that he did fight on her side during the past war. But Raistlin pulls the ”It was all according to my plan, so I could betray her”-card out of his sleeve. I'm a traitor to both sides and both good and evil look forward to my funerals. Pity poor me who attempted to do what was right but ended up being unfairly hated by everyone. Well, Crysania buys it all, poor woman. They get closer and closer and looks like they are about to kiss...
But no kissels. Excited Caramon arrives to bring news that Zhaman has been conquered. Crysania leaves the men alone, and Caramon sings a happy song about how much glory he has gained in these battles and thanks Raistlin for making him the leader of the army, giving his life meaning and saving him from being a useless, depressed drunk.
Raistlin is initially annoyed that his alone time with Crysania was interrupted, but knowledge that he now has access to the gates he so desires to open puts him in a good mood and he joins Caramon in the victory celebrations. At some point it even looks like he... smiles a little... and not sarcastically. Who is this stranger and what have you done with the real Raistlin?
Now all Raistlin needs is to make sure Crysania will follow him to the gates. At night, when they are alone again he begins to sing a romantic song for her, posing sexily while he gazes at the starry sky, and she joins the song. By now she is completely and utterly in love with him and filled with joy when suggested that the feelings might be mutual.
Raistlin does an excellent job at seducing her considering he has no prior experience in romance whatsoever. He often takes Crysania's hand while they walk but never makes any more forward moves himself, allowing her to be the one who initiates their first kiss.
Except this time too they are interrupted before the kiss can happen. This time by peeping tom Takhisis making her nightly visit to Raistlin's mind and being all Oh my, things are getting juicy in here, wait until I get my popcorn! Raistlin is startled, looks away and tells Crysania to get out. This is the first time Raistlin's behaved like that in front of her, so she's frightened that by making that first move crossed his line and angered him. She runs away, brokenhearted.
Raistlin is left alone with Takhisis, who in her turn tries to play mindgames. She suggests to Raistlin that maybe he wasn't encouraging Crysania's love just because it was convenient for his plan, maybe he too is falling in love.
Raistlin is horrified of such a thought but compliments her Dark Majesty for pointing out his weakness so he can make sure to overcome it. I made her fall in love with me, using her weakness of compassion and pity against her, surely I am above falling into my own trap! Well, regardless of how her love was born, comments Takhisis, your feelings are genuine – don't you want to keep her? Love is stronger than you are, puny mortal, it would overcome you.
Love brings no happiness, only suffering, sings Raistlin. Look at Crysania, who was so fearless, yet now is afraid, made so weak by her love. I must not return a false love, not fall for a creation of my own making. And so he fights to resists the basic human urge, the need to be loved, considering it a dangerous weakness. Without love I can't be hurt. I won't let my feelings hinder me, my brother is nothing but a sword for me and Crysania is nothing but a key. Love will break and weaken any ruler.
Nothing matters more than love, whispers Takhisis (rather uncharacteristic for the goddess of evil to spout such sappy fortune cookie aforisms). No, power is much more dear to me, answers Raistlin, but he is a complete emotional mess after fighting his feelings and can just tiredly beg for the Dark Lady to leave him alone.
Caramon, while unable to hear Takhisis, heard everything Raistlin said and his heart breaks when he finally learns that his brother doesn't love him. So it was all lies, I meant nothing to you? Or maybe I knew this all along and was lying to myself. When Caramon says he's leaving, Raistlin calls out to him, weak and exhausted after chasing Takhisis out of his mind. And even now, after hearing the truth, Caramon hesitates only a moment before coming to Raistlin's side, making sure he's alright. He even takes off his cape to cover the sleepy wizard warmly.
Kind people are unable to ignore a call for help, even when uttered by someone they know wouldn't return the favor, because for kind people there is no such thing as ”someone who doesn't deserve help.” I still want to kick Raistlin for being such a dick, though. While watching Raistlin sleep, Caramon sings a sad song about how he misses the lost happiness and innocence of their childhood.
The next song is very painful. It's Crysania basically slutshaming herself. Instead of recognizing that her broken heart is the result of Raistlin's mindfuckery, she blames herself. And more alarmingly, she makes a decision to change. By now she is as desperate for Raistlin recognizing her worth as Caramon was for any sign of brotherly love. It hurts me to see her like this, because it reminds me too much of real women who end up trying to change to better please their male lovers. This is what has become of her – the fearless lady who went forth to save a wicked man and prevent him from going through a horrible plan has turned into a blind minion of said man, willing to do whatever he wants. Raistlin has corrupted Crysania, broken her in an incredibly vile way. Instead of leaving the cruel man, she is finally convinced to aid him in opening the gates to Abyss. In her despair to be deemed worthy, Crysania decides to do the one thing Raistlin has always been asking of her, even if that means going against her god's will. At one point in the song it looks like she's talking to Paladine (kinda looking skyward) and saying something along the lines of ”I expect you to condemn what I'm about to do.” And so she betrayed her god and went down to Abyss for the sake of love.
Into the Abyss they go, singing a triumphant song together. They went with music forth to battle, not knowing what horrors lie beyond the gates. Crysania is made fearless by her faith, but not the faith she had for her god but her faith in Raistlin's might, sincerely believing it to be powerful enough to defeat a great goddess. Raistlin is made fearless by his trust in himself.
Not too long after passing the gates, they are welcomed by her Dark Majesty herself. Takhisis is aware of Raistlin's plan to kill her, but she pretends not to know. She congratulates Raistlin for opening the gates for her like a good little minion and offers him a place at the foot of her throne. Either she is being sarcastic, or she is attempting to avoid the fight with intimidation tactics, allowing Raistlin a peaceful way out if he chickens now that he is actually face to face with a powerful goddess.
Look at those four women standing beside her Dark Majesty. I didn't get it at the first viewing, but look at them; different colours, wearing a crown decorated with dragon horns – they are the rest of her five necks! The iconic fiveheaded dragon queen form does appear in the musical, cleverly interpreted!
Intimidation tactic seems to be working, Raistlin looks hesitant for a while, but Crysania turns his head so he can't see the Dark Lady and instead looks her in the eyes and this seems to break the fear instilled in Raistlin after so many nightmares. Time for mindgames and backstabbing is over, Raistlin steps up and voices his intentions loud and clear, challenging the goddess of evil.
This is the first time we see Takhisis express anger, now that all pretense has been thrown to the wind. You can almost see her breathe fire as she gives the INSOLENT MORTAL I WILL BREAK YOU IN HALF!-speech. She then summons her minions to fight for her. Including some weird glowstick-lightsaber wielding guys. They didn't have the budget to prop actual horrors from beyond, so they got creative. I think Takhisis should have summoned a bunch of her evil dragons. No matter how incredibly powerful your wizard is, if a flock of red dragons appears, he is toast. Delicious magical toast.
In the next song Takhisis sings about how great her powers are, with a big emphasis on the fact that she can take countless forms. One great way they show this is the actress playing Crysania also joining the song as clearly a Crysania-shaped incarnation of the Dark Lady. She has been tormenting Raistlin with nightmares and goes to work with his fears and darker memories again. It is fascinating that Crysania seems to be one of the things he fears, but that is probably because of his fear of falling in love and therefore becoming vulnerable.
You know, seeing Takhisis and Crysania together and hearing their beautiful voices simultaneously, makes me want to ship them. I know it's a ridiculous crackpairing, Crysania would deem it blasphemous and Takhisis would be like ”She's not as good as Mina.” But hey, if Crysania is ready to betray her god, why not go all out and fall in love with her god's literal rival? Like how deliciously angsty would that get? I'm sorry, this is stupid. Actually, no, I'm not sorry. Because you know what, I can't go to any show's fandom without seeing a fuckton of male/male ships of characters who hate each other in canon/are sworn enemies, so I should not have to be ashamed for blushing at the thought of femslashing Crys and Taksu. The ship may be full of holes but I will sail it!
More random minions. The background dancers just really, really wanted to show off their cool fedoras and scarves, no matter how unfit they are in a fantasy setting.
The next foe Raistlin faces is a succubus. She unfortunately lacks the charisma of Vera Zoodena and comes off as trying too much. I'm sorry, but whatever she's trying, it just doesn't work. Raistlin seems nervous though, and shouts to her ”Don't touch me!” Oh, the bookworm nerd doesn't like me, eh, says the succubus, I'll just pick his brother then. And she goes to snuggle with Caramon's doppelganger. This is a rather interesting scene, because there's a book that tells about the twins' childhood and apparently there was an incident where a girl initially showed intered towards little Raistlin and got his hopes up and then crushed them by deciding to go for the handsome twin instead. So, yeah, Raistlin has brother issues, and of course Takhisis uses them against him.
Time for more childhood trauma. Takhisis summons the images of the kids who bullied Raistlin when he was little. As someone who still occasionally has nightmares of my own bullies, I have to admit I feel sorry for him here. The cruelty of children can wound a person very deeply. The creatures make Raistlin retreat, tearing open wounds he thought had scarred permanently long ago. Anxious and unable to fight his fears, Raistlin falls on his knees and, much like in his childhood, instinctively cries Caramon for help. But his brother is not here to protect him, to chase away the bullies and watch over his sleep so he can wake him up from nightmares.
Now that Takhisis has Raistlin exhausted and crawling on the ground, she appears to him in the disguise of his mother. She calls for Raistlin, and the wizard reacts to the familiar voice, rushing towards her but stopping midway when he finally gets a grip of reality, that these are all shadows summoned by Takhisis and nothing more. Once Takhisis realizes her game is discovered, she drops the pretense and appears as herself, casting her dark spells on Raistlin, pulling him closer. Eventually all of his strength is consumed and he collapses, fallen victim to the Dark Lady's power.
Crysania to the rescue! Having been separated from Raistlin in the darkness of the Abyss, she finally finds him and immediately puts her healing powers to work. Takhisis tells her she is too late, death has claimed the wizard. I will not give him to you, Crysania exclaims, continuing to revive the man she loves. If needed, she is willing to give her own life in exchange of his. Takhisis speaks to Crysania, telling her that even she feels sorry for her, but a flame always leaves its mark. And then, just as life is returning Raistlin's body, the Dark Lady blinds Crysania's eyes.
And now we get to the most painful scene in the show. Blinded Crysania seeks Raistlin's hand and tells him that they have defeated darkness (What?! How? When? The last I checked, Takhisis seemed to be alive and well. I don't get it.). My eyes can see light no more and I am wounded, but your path to godhood is open now. And then Raistlin answers... that I don't need you anymore. I... I... fuck... Crysania begs him to stay with her, to hold her hand. She was ready to give her life for you! All she wants is for you to hold her hand! I don't cry often when reading books but I remember sobbing all the way through this horrible ending.
Singing arrogantly, Raistlin leaves Crysania behind, blind and wounded, all alone in the darkness of the Abyss. I did what was necessary to reach my goal. The gates were sealed cleverly but with the help of a fool's love I opened them. I don't need you anymore. The price of love in exchange of becoming a god is not too high.
Takhisis speaks to Crysania again, and it's clear now that when she said earlier that she feels sorry for Crysania, it wasn't because of her grief over Raistlin's death, but because she wasn't aware of being used.
Taksu, please, can you not. (Why is everyone in this musical such a dick to blind people?)
Crysania sings a sad song about the senselessness of cruelty and my heart breaks for her. After devoting her life to a man who abandoned her to die alone in the dark, the inside of her chest is pitch black and a void deeper than Abyss where her heart used to be. A final song of grief echoes among the shadows. The Dark Lady's minions dance with Crysania, surprisingly calmly considering they are creatures of evil. Even Takhisis herself holds her in her arms for a while (please kiss her. I know you're not the goddess of death but please. Just kiss her.). Eventually she collapses at the foot of her Dark Majesty's throne and ends her song. The only thing I can do is close my eyes before this void and wait for someone to push. And that's the image we leave Crysania with. A betrayed, blind woman standing on a cliff's edge, waiting for the moment she has to fall down.
Astinus appears again and tells what happened next. Raistlin went on to challenge all of the gods until he was the only one left. However, he did not possess the gods' ability to create. In his war against the gods he had left the mortal world in ruin, and now as the only god of Krynn, he could not repair it. The mortal world had become as desolate, dark and lifeless as the Abyss.
Now, in the books this is not what happens. It's what could happen, but Raistlin gets shown this grim future and that scares him to finally give up his ambitious plan. However he had already opened the gates and entered Abyss, so he chose to remain there and prevent Takhisis from coming through the gates until they had been properly closed behind him. Some versions of the musical also apparently have this ending. However, I prefer this one, where Raistlin reaches that future and has to for all eternity bear the heavy burden of being the one who brought forward the end of the world, all alone in the darkness, the only remaining witness to the devastating results of his actions. I think an ending where we allow him the chance to correct his errors and sacrifice his life nobly for the sake of preventing Takhisis from entering Krynn, is cheaper and doesn't give proper emphasis on the fact that actions have consequenses and often, even in stories involving time travel, once you've made a mistake, you cannot undo it! I prefer stories with the moral ”Don't do this, once you do it there's no going back” than ”Don't do this but if you do, there's always a second chance if you're ready to make some sacrifices.” I know this is fantasy, but in real life, there often aren't second chances. You can only break a fragile thing once. You can only lose someone's trust once.
We get one final song, Lord of Nothing, and it's a great song number. For whatever reason Takhisis sings it with Raistlin, despite the fact that she should be long since defeated in this timeline. Maybe she will forever live on in Raistlin's mind, a fragment of his imagination formed from the memory of nightmares. I don't know, but I don't even care, Vera Zoodena has such a great voice that she can raise Takhisis from the dead any time she wants.
One reason I love this song is that it's basically the Dark Lady vigorously rubbing salt on Raistlin's wounds. Yeah, you wanted this, you wanted this so bad, well look at your kingdom now, oh great Lord of Nothing! As she sings the background dancers gradually take away all of the props, including Raistlin's staff and his robes and then disappear offstage, leaving him standing there alone on the empty stage. It is very satisfying to hear Raistlin sing in anxious manner, desperately trying to lie to himself that he can still fix this, oh please don't let me be left alone in the void. The last one to leave is Astinus. He gives Raistlin his quill and scroll of history before disappearing.
I liked this show and was amazed how nicely it adapted the original material. It's very different to the kind of musical theater I usually watch (Takarazuka). But even a smaller production, with a very small prop budget and actors who sing well but don't dance at all, can be as entertaining as a big, colourful spectacle.
There's been some translating projects going on. Maybe some day there might be an English version done.

A Big List Of Prompts
i thought ‘why not?’ and made one of these for myself. I wandered around the internet for a while and shoved together a bunch of prompts I thought were interesting. Pick a character and a number (pls specify) and I’ll write you a thing!

Muse questions: 2 9 15
2. are there any tropes that pull you in or that you realise are reoccurring in your muses?
SO MANY. I don’t know how many are actually full tropes but there are definitely character types I keep returning to. I tend to write characters with some sort of supernatural or fantasy element to them, usually the result of, acquired alongside, or acquired to compensate for mental trauma or illness. I tend to write a lot of “last person standing” characters who end up being the last (or close to last) living member of their family, bloodline, tribe, team, etc. I write a lot of badass women and strong silent type men, heh. I write a lot of people with strong moral codes, whether it has a religious basis or it’s just their own personal code that they follow. TWINS... is a big recurring theme with my muses. I’ve written six muses who were twins so far, and all of them were capable of magic or superhuman abilities. I write a lot of emotionally repressed characters. Aaaand let’s see... Oh, I write a lot of non-human characters, ones who have been experimented on, a lot of angels, and a lot of characters who, human or not, are a part of rare, powerful, and/or otherwise very important bloodlines.
9. have the types of characters you play changed over the years?
Not in a huge way, but I have noticed I’ve moved away from writing almost exclusively fantasy characters and ones in period settings in favor of writing muses that are mostly in modern times. Less medieval fantasy and LotR type muses and more urban fantasy, post-apocalyptic fantasy or sci-fi, and even just plain “real world” type muses.
15. which muses of yours have currently very dead fandoms?
Again... SO MANY. I’ll just go by what’s on this site, since I can’t speak for other rp platforms, but I mean... some of the muses on my multimuse don’t even HAVE fandoms. There’s no fandom for Martha’s movie, and Marie’s fandom is for the original movie, not for the remake she’s actually in. And I would argue that Ivan’s and Esther’s movie has a pretty dead fandom on here as well. Gizmo as well is in a pretty dead fandom on here. Ben’s movie has no fandom, and I haven’t seen any activity in Luke’s fandom either...
As for muses not on my multi... Luther’s series has no fandom to speak of on here at all. She’s on hiatus right now, but Leeloo’s fandom is hanging by a thread here, as is Raiden’s. So yeah, I have a lot of rejected muse babies, haha. I seem to collect them. XD

Aurelien seems kinda bitter but tbh who wouldn't be after what he went thru? I don't blame him. And Vincent :((( can you believe I never watched this one Beauty and the Beast show? I was very small when it came out and I found him hella uncanny valley-esque, but now I find him kinda cute :3 would you recommend the show?
{i am the caretaker of souls} Aurelien isn't bitter, really. I wouldn't call it that. He's... hurt, and chooses to behave very defensively and guardedly instead of processing his trauma and dealing with his emotions. I won't go into a huge amount of detail and bore everyone with my fictional crap, haha, but the immediate years after he was transformed into a shade were rough for him. At first he was somewhat trapped in a really terrible place, and then he was "rescued" from that place by forming an unhealthy relationship with a person with severe mental and emotional development issues and ended up one of the major villains of the main novel of that world. Granted, they ended up becoming really good friends over the next century or so, but then they had to part ways and Aurelien was alone again and... ugh, it was a mess. He hasn't really dealt with what happened to him in the best of ways.
Alright now with regard to Beauty and the Beast...
It was one of my favorite shows growing up, I love it to death, and it definitely was a huge contributor to my imagination as far as the writer I am today. Having given that glowing review based on nostalgia and fondness, now let me give you an objective one, heh. I would recommend the show, but you have to take it with a lot of context. It was made in the 80s, and back then television (especially network television) was heavily censored and vanilla. They weren’t allowed to say or show very much, and they weren’t allowed to get into a lot of heavy topics. I say this because I read an interview with I think it was either one of the writers or the director of the show where they said the censors were all over them for various reasons. They they weren’t allowed to show a lot of blood or Vincent explicitly killing anyone, they weren’t allowed to do anything even remotely sexual, and they weren’t able to go into heavy or controversial topics. But I laugh (cynically) at the same time because the very first episode has Catherine being assaulted and having her face slashed after she’s thrown in a van by a bunch of guys. Somehow that was okay with the censors, but Vincent getting violent to protect her wasn’t. *aggravated sigh*
But anyway... in some ways the show is very vanilla, simple, and superficial in that regard, however... they did sneak several things by the censors, like the aforementioned assault, themes about child abuse and abandonment, drug use, gang violence, and again I mention that it was made in the 80s, so there are themes of racism. Sometimes it’s intentional to teach a lesson, but sometimes it isn’t, and it’s just because the show was made over 30 years ago and it was a different time with regard to television. So if you are bothered by those sorts of themes, then it might not be the show for you. But it is good because it tackles a lot of important issues such as sexism, racism like I said, discrimination, prejudice, tolerance, the gap between the wealthy and the poor, city violence and how it affects communities and children, what makes a family, trust and keeping secrets, things like that.
Vincent, Father, and the whole world Below add an almost fantasy or medieval aspect to it, even though it’s beneath Manhattan, while Catherine’s side of the story adds an almost NCIS fictional crime drama aspect since she works for the DA’s office. So a lot of the plots have to do with solving crimes, sleuthing out information, weeding out criminals, or stopping injustice, but then you also have the social, dramatic, and romantic subplots that go on as well.
Personally, if I’m being honest, I never liked Catherine. She always just rubbed me the wrong way for some reason, haha. I was always 100% a Vincent fan. So I think I only liked her in the context of Vincent liking her, heh. In my opinion, the show would not have been half of what it was without Ron Perlman’s amazing performance. Vincent was such an interesting, wise, relatable, heartfelt character, and he carried the entire show. If you can see past the 1980s production value, the prejudices of the times that sometimes bleed through, the sometimes very simple plots, and the often stilted dialog (again, I just... Catherine is not the best character, haha), then I think the show has a lot to offer.
If any of this sounds appealing to you, then I definitely recommend the first two seasons. They are awesome. Season 3... not so much. The story fell apart starting with the season premiere and it went downhill so fast that it was canceled halfway through the season... for reasons I won’t go into because spoilers. So yeah, I recommend the first two seasons.
I’ve actually started re-watching it again, which is part of the reason why I felt like suddenly writing Vincent. I’m doing so through YouTube, where someone has posted the entire show, heh. I’ll drop the link to the first episode here, but it’s part of a playlist that contains all the episodes. Hopefully it won’t get taken down anytime soon. Enjoy! =)

Do you have any ideas for crossovers with MCU? I’d like to rp but don’t have any ideas for a crossover, srry
{out of dalmasca} That’s okay! It’s actually a bit of a conundrum that I’ve been wrestling with myself lately, not only how to fit him into the MCU (since that’s the fandom I’m most active in right now), but just devising a way to get him into any other fandom. Basch is not an easy character to transplant into other times/worlds/storylines because his personality and who he is at his core was heavily influenced by the events of his early life, his family, and where he ended up in Dalmasca. If you remove him from that or omit people and events that had a hand in shaping him as a person, you don’t get the same person.
Some characters are easily transplantable or translatable into other time periods or worlds, and you can easily just grab a handful of minor details and keep them the same and the character’s personality can still stand alone, but not Basch unfortunately. He is the way he is because of everything that happened to him with his family and wars and in his specific world. So that... makes it really tough for me to try and have any sort of crossover interactions. Especially with the MCU, a world that is so polar opposite from Basch’s world in almost every way. It’s like medieval fantasy meets airship-centric steampunk meets Star Wars hahaha... and MCU is just... the real world with superheroes and some creatures and magic thrown in. Kindof hard to meld the two.
BUT... I have been doing some thinking on the crossover issue with regard to the MCU. I don’t know which MCU character(s) you write, but depending on their magical/technological/cultural abilities and affiliations, there might be a way to bring MCU together with Ivalice. It takes a large amount of bullshitting, admittedly, but if you can allow that Basch’s world of Ivalice exists on another planet/world/timeline/multiverse variant thread... then I think it might be possible.
For magical characters that can enter/visit/merge multiverse threads like Wanda Maximoff or Stephen Strange, for example, Ivalice can exist in another timeline/alternate reality/multiverse thread. If you allow that grand amount of fudgery enough to say that his world arose from variations in the multiverse, then it may be possible through magic to either bring the MCU muse to Basch’s world or to bring Basch into the MCU. I mean Wanda can pretty do whatever she wants with her magic, haha, so... it could just be by some magical derp or accident that the lines got crossed somewhere and either muse was yanked from their world and into the other. I will say that it is probably a lot easier to bring Basch into the MCU than it is to send someone from the MCU to his world. I just think it would be easier for him to acclimate than for an MCU character, but that’s just my opinion.
For technically advanced characters capable of space travel or that can travel between worlds/planes like the Guardians or Thor or those types of characters, Ivalice could exist on another plane, planet, world, etc., just like Asgard or something similar. It could require magic or just simply space travel to get to. I mean... again, it takes some fudging to believe this, haha, but if you can, then it’s just a matter of one character getting from their world/plane to the other. Maybe somebody crash lands in somebody else’s world. Or... maybe someone is recruited to go to another world for some reason. Or... someone travels to another world looking for help with stuff going on in theirs. It would depend upon the MCU character and what their goals/motivations might be, but yeah.
Or... taking a page from the Steve Rogers’ book... what if Basch was frozen somewhere for... heh, a damn long time, haha. Yet again, massive fudgery is needed. And maybe not even frozen, maybe he was kept in stasis or suspended animation with a spell of some kind. His world does have a lot of magic in it. Anyway, my point is... maybe Ivalice isn’t a parallel dimension or a simultaneously existing world, but rather it existed in a different time? Maybe it was part of an ancient Earth and none of the countries or technology involved survived through to the current MCU setting? And... Basch was found either frozen in ice or “frozen” with a spell of some kind... and he can be reanimated as-is and we’ll just ignore the fact that he should probably be dead from that hahahaha. But this would be a great way to then stick him with just about any MCU character, because once he’s thawed/reanimated, your muse could go to where he’s being treated/held and depending on who they are and why they might want or have to talk to him, we can see what happens from there. But like... if you have an agent character, anybody from SHIELD or the Avengers who would be tasked with looking into strange peoples and events and would want to know what the deal with this ancient dude is, heh... this would be a good way to start. Or for any other reason, really, I mean depending on your muse we can certainly plot.
Does anyone else in the MCU fandom have any ideas on how to integrate the MCU with a Final Fantasy type setting or how to transplant a character like Basch into the MCU? I’m definitely open to ideas, so feel free to leave suggestions!

The girl who defied her peasant parents' wishes and earned a place through a scholarship; born to a pair of nobles but dreams of being a knight instead of a lady; who's also an orphan and is often bullied; someone else. Would you continue your education after the death of your parents, assuming students only graduate at age 18?

I’d go with Aelsa as my character’s first name since it’s my go to video game/COG/i’ve-been-using-it-for-years-so-i-have-a-soft-spot-for-it name. Idk if that fits with Medieval time, but it sounds cool to me.
I want them all. They all sound so neat.
Hmm, I don’t see my character as being the type to make friends easily.
The boarding school would likely be prestigious, but also pretentious so I think her parents’ assassination would impact her reputation. It’s not wholly unexpected, but does make things a lil’ awkward especially with other nobles since at that age throwing your last name around is pretty common. Using your parents’ clout is how some of the kids justify their worth present themselves to others. If it’s because of haughtiness, insecurity, or it’s what they were taught to do, varies by person. Forming alliances through friendship would also be encouraged, so a house lacking its patriarch/matriarch would not be ideal.
I think the above reasons that would thin the selection of possible friends for Aelsa, her reserved personality (which does not help things in the slightest. Like ohmygosh why are you like this??? Wait. I created you) aside. Or at least the noble^tm friends would largely be out.

“The girl born to a pair of nobles but dreams of being a knight instead of a lady”: I could see the two bonding over not wanting the typical noble life. Aelsa would admire the girl for working towards that goal, rather than putting her down about it. I would like to imagine the would-be-knight maybe noticed that, like herself, Aelsa doesn’t participate in typical boarding school machinations/social hierarchy and that’s why she approached her. Declaring you would want to be a knight would not be looked on favorably by most teachers/students, so maybe the knight-girl hoped for some commonality. I could def see Aelsa being the type to sit and listen to her talk about her plans, what kind of sword/armor she wants, where she wants to travel, etc. all while encouraging her or trying to help her. Honestly, feel the would-be-knight just needs someone to listen to her…since she’s been shutdown so much in regards to her dream.
Ok, if the girl is also kind of outgoing, sweet, brave, gallant, kind, persistent, other-words-typically-associated-with-badass-knights-who are-actually-softies-, it’d be a quickburn friendship. Also, something Aelsa would probably question if she deserved at times.
“The individual who’s also an orphan and is often bullied”: I think there would be an understanding between the two that may grow into a friendship. Like the Dead Parents^tm club, but the circumstances around the death of their parents might color how they view Aelsa. Did they love their parents? Was it a sickness or flu, rather than a politically motivated thing? It wouldn’t be an obvious friendship. Maybe picking up a book that was knocked out of their hands, handing it to them, and then going about her day would be the initial interaction. Perhaps, they would sit near Aelsa one day at supper; no words are exchanged. Lots of small things that eventually became more routine, until there’s actual some degree of care for each other developed. Slow burn friendship.
“The girl who defied her peasant parents’ wishes and earned a place through a scholarship”: I feel like this character herself would be interesting. She’d be a natural target for the nobles given the circumstances, so that may make her caustic (bc dealing with it for years) towards them and leery of them…all of them. I think this peasant-girl would grow to have a sharp tongue as well as an even more brilliant mind. She got in on merit, but has to deal with snide comments while also knowing she went against her parents. I think Aelsa would admire her, not that that would ever be communicated.
Aelsa would probably be hesitant to make /initial/ effort even with the would-be-sunshine-personified-knight so…hmm. It would need to be established that Aelsa is not going to inherently look down on the peasant-girl for anything to really form there. Like: After being paired together for something, the girl makes a knee-jerk sarcastic remark because she hates group projects so damn much and Aelsa’s just like ‘i really don’t care about your blood’ full on deadpan and then ‘let’s just brew the potion’. Some stereotypical forced situation from fic, basically. XD Rival-y-acquaintanceship until Aelsa gains enough of her trust to initiate a friendship, which may or may not happen.
Oh, yeah! She would certainly finish her education. While the boarding school environment is not all that stellar, it does delay Aelsa having to make decisions about her house/name/court/future. It provides a predictable structure and order as well as a bit of protection too. Also, she does value the skills she’s learning.

LOL, though that would be epic.
Umm, but just to be serious for a second because I actually am trying to question whether or not to keep this element of the story, originally the sword was going to be specifically meant for the protection of the Monarch, and it has features that are kinda like an Avatar State? Basically, you get the skills of previous wielders, but also their scars? And it was going to be how Thea got those awful scars that made her family think she’d been badly abused (the previous wielder was the queen of Antillia and she died from attacks by assassins, but of course it has a lot of ugly looking mortal wounds too from people before her? And getting the marks from those old scars all over her when accepting the knighthood was going to be one reason Thea ran back to our world.)
I still like those features, but I’m beginning to fear it’s Too Much, given that I actually have a more plot-oriented role for the sword now. Basically, I’m now realizing it served a great role as an object needed to resolve the plot. Antillia is a world where the king’s health is tied to the land, BUT it’s all gone tits up because the king is now using that connection to destroy cities and keep the civil war raging.
So what if instead or in addition, the sword has the power to transfer the monarch’s connection to another person, so the monarch alway gives it to a most trusted person, so it’s not just symbolic it’s very real, but not a frequently used power? But he gave it to Thea after she helped him get his throne back (when they were both 14) and it can only have one user at a time and then she left so now it’s been sitting there, useless, and when the king “went bad” and began destroying cities, there was no way to take the connection from him. In theory they could force him to have an heir then kill him, but no one knows if he’s already had a kid (it’s kinda like that with guys, heh). So no one wants to kill him (well, not entirely true, Alma REALLY wants to kill him since she watched those quakes destroy entire cities) because they don’t know if there’s a bastard heir out there, also he’s protected by his side of the civil war of course, and with Thea gone there’s no way to forcibly remove his connection?
But then she comes back. And there’s a new plan by the rebels to launch a covert mission to get Thea closer to him to try to remove that connection, or just to kill him if that’s impossible, because the land is really DYING now and there’s not much time left. Some more extreme people (like Alma) are just willing to take the risk that there’s a bastard out there, or that whatever happens if the king is simply murdered won’t be as bad (such as the island SINKING) as having him alive because NO ONE KNOWS WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF THIS STUPID SPELL GOES AWAY (well, I do, hehehe).
So anyway, that kinda makes Thea’s absence a bigger deal, as well as her return. But I’m not sure if letting it have both powers is overkill now. IDK I just really wanted her to take a level in badass when she gets it back lol but then again, it just being the literal only governmental check or balance on the absolute world destroying power of this monarch is also a pretty big deal. I seriously wonder if I can get away with both and just anime that shit up.
Oh and for the record, the geniuses who came up with this system in the first place were a bunch of King Arthur nerds and that’s why it’s so fucking dumb and medieval, but that’s a story for another day buried in the background of Antillia and how it came to be :3
