Where’s The “User” In User Story?
For organizations moving away from traditional ways of working to Agile ways of working, one of the first questions to answer is, “How will we communicate the work that needs to get done?” Most organizations have traditionally used some form of a written Business Requirements Document (BRD). A large and very detailed tome usually researched and written over a long period of time by Business…

Caitlyn Kiramman's Strength
**Spoiler warning for all of arcane**
“You will never rest knowing that she’s out there. Or maybe I underestimated you. Maybe you have the strength I do not. To forgive, and trust in tomorrow”- Ambessa
Caitlyn's commander arc has been a HEAVY topic of debate. I have written plenty as have many others. I am writing this after reading a wonderful exchange between some other users who added even more to my understanding of this story.
For my purposes today, I am thinking about Caitlyn's strength. The question of true strength is one pursued in many ways throughout this story. Vi learning she deserves to be loved for more than the strength of her arm, Huck explaining to Caitlyn that he became addicted to shimmer because he just wanted for someone else to be afraid for once. So what of Caitlyn? Her strength to achieve, is the strength to forgive.
There are many kinds of strength. Caitlyn is agile, and a great fighter. Her mind is sharp and creative. Even as a rookie enforcer she has the force of will to follow a mysterious tattooed Zaunite into the undercity, never knowing how her life would change. What she would lose, and what she would gain.
People have made many ham-handed attempts at demonizing Caitlyn's character arc in season 2. Their failure to grasp the ways in which grief can warp us is their cross to bear. In Caitlyn's story, we watch as a kind, clever, idealistic and brave young woman is terrorized and almost murdered by wanted terrorist, only to watch helplessly as her mother falls to the same killer. Because remember my friends it's easy for us to look at Jinx's actions and try for understanding. We were there when Powder was a scared little girl holding her sisters hand on that bridge. Caitlyn wasn't. And in a span of mere days, all for the crime of believing she could make a difference, her reality is violently transformed in front of her.
This show gives us many depictions of the illusion of strength. My mind goes to the breaking of Powder and creation of JInx, in which Silco lauds the strength she has achieved by "letting Powder die". When the truth is that no matter how strong her body has become, her mind has only grown more fractured.
Caitlyn's takes control of her house. She demands her seat at the council, and forms a strike team to go into Zaun all of her own accord where they actively engage in combat against the Chem Barons. Strength? On the surface yes. But the unfortunately reality is that she is not an agent of law and order, bringing peace and safety to troubled streets. She is on a crusade. And with every step she takes down that road, she destroys more and more of what really matters to her, until even the woman she loves lays heartbroken and alone. All culminating in her glorious rise to Commander. Strength..
It is during this bleak time in Caitlyn's story, that she and Ambessa have a conversation. Caitlyn is questioning the Noxian's brutal tactics, and if the ongoing occupation of Zaun is really worth it anymore. Ambessa says the quote at the top to remind her of her rage.. and of her fear.
“You will never rest knowing that she’s out there. Or maybe I underestimated you. Maybe you have the strength I do not. To forgive, and trust in tomorrow”
And it works! For the time being. Because what neither of them could have known is Caitlyn was soon to be reunited with the woman who reminded her of inner strength. The woman who believed in her, who supported her, who sacrificed for her. Who at the moment of their reuniting, even with that emotional chasm between them and all of Caitlyn's wrongs known, trusts Caitlyn to save her father.
Trust... that single word from someone so important to her and Caitlyn begins to find herself again. Ambessa taught her to kill, to trick, to oppress and debilitate. Caitlyn's physical body growing stronger and more dangerous while her soul was buried deeper and deeper beneath the waves. But it was not until Vi was still willing to believe in her, to give her a second chance, that she truly began to breathe again.
It is in this time, that Caitlyn's true strength emerges. When face to face with the woman she knows captured her heart, and who calls her to account, the question of who deserves who gets a second chance is left in the air. What Jinx took from Caitlyn cannot be undone. And Vi is not asking her to love Jinx, or to love what she did. She is asking her to let go of the hatred, and the fear, and the pain. To live not just for Jinx's benefit but for Caitlyn herself as well. To carry the same strength in her heart that Vi demonstrated by telling her about Vander. And in so doing, for the sake of herself, and the woman she loves, Caitlyn sets aside that rage, and opens the way for them all to start healing.
Our story ends with Vi, and Caitlyn enjoying a quiet moment together. Violet's journey was never about physical strength, but about the strength to admit she deserves to feel loved, and protected, and safe. To know that she is worth more to her partner than the strength of her arm. Caitlyn was almost swallowed by her darkness, never having been more alone than when she was one of the most powerful people in the city. Now here, at the end of things, it is because she found the strength to forgive the person who wronged her, and in aspiring to be the person Vi deserves has begun to forgive herself, that she finds peace.

SUPERPOWER / QUiRK iDEAS .ᐟ ꩜
just some mha quirk / or super power ideas :p i need somewhere to dump these for future stories n such.
꩜ limerence
⟶ user has the ability to create a blind infatuation in chosen target. When this influence is applied, the targeted person exclusively focuses on the user, which allows for easier persuasion and control over their thoughts and actions.
weaknesses include mental strain and headaches.
꩜ vampirism
⟶ grants user fangs to drink another persons blood.
The user has access to superhuman strength, agility, stamina, speed, and enhanced senses in general.
user can heal at a faster rate after drinking another person's blood.
under certain conditions, the user is able to hypnotize someone for short periods of time.
weaknesses include extreme sensitivity to sunlight, starvation when deprived of blood for long periods of time, and also inability to heal if an injury is caused by a silver weapon.
the pungency of garlic can also interfere with their sense of smell.
꩜ trichokinesis
⟶ aka hair manipulation. the user can strengthen and grow hair follicles at an alarming rate.
hair can be shaped into things such as weapons and hands, and can be used to pick things up, wrap around/strangle targets, etc.
weaknesses include tiredness, headaches, and hair loss.
꩜ reflection teleportation
⟶ user can teleport through any reflective surface. This includes mirrors, water, shiny jewelry, glass, etc.
weaknesses include nausea when used too often.
꩜ medusa
⟶ user can turn someone to stone by looking directly into their eyes. (you could do something cool where the character has to wear a blindfold or something so they don't accidentally petrify someone).
user can charm someone with their voice, and is incredibly persuasive.
user has prehensile snake hair (or has snakes along with regular hair). this snake can inflict venom into targets when bitten.
꩜ emmetropia
this ability is made up of two main parts.
⟶ vital stats
the user can view someones weak points and vital stats, along with viewing basic information such as their name and age.
⟶ vision enhancement
the user is able to see at incredibly far distances, and can also view things microscopically.
drawbacks include intense visual migraines.
꩜ sound manipulation
⟶ the user can manipulate sound. Not only can they manipulate their own voice, but also the sounds around them such as alarms, birds chirping, etc.
user can amplify sounds to deafening volumes, along with decreasing sounds to the point where they are practically unnoticeable. (This is helpful when sneaking around as the user can silence their own footsteps).
The user can also create auditory illusions. This means they can make their target hear things that aren't really there.
They can also change their own voice to perfectly replicate something else. They can mimic the sound of a fire alarm to get people to evacuate a building, mimic the sound of a growling wolf to scare others, or mimic someones voice to confuse their opponent.
drawbacks include temporary hearing loss and ear ringing.
꩜ inventory
⟶ user keeps an "inventory". This allows them to pick up any objects and store them away for later. This inventory is completely invisible to others and only the user can access it.
drawbacks include a limit on how many items can be stored at once. Living things cannot be stored in the inventory, with the exception of plant life.
꩜ law & order
this is so hard to explain and probably makes no sense but whatever.
⟶ the user is able to inflict certain limitations/rules within a 30 by 30 meter space around them. (for example, the user can set a rule that declares "death is not permitted", therefore making their target unable to kill them or anyone in the 30 by 30 meter space.)
drawbacks include that the rules the user sets must be from an actual law, meaning they can't just make something up. These rules can only be held for a total of 10 minutes before they no longer apply.
꩜ superstitious cat
⟶ the user is able to transform into a black cat. When in this feline form, they can cross paths with their intended target to inflict either good or bad luck on them.
okay that's all for now bye bye
i'll probably do a part two

THE MIST HASHIRA'S TSUGUKO — platonic muichiro & reader !
synopsis. what is the mist hashira like with a tsuguko? warnings. slight spoilers for muichiro's backstory. kny-typical warnings (violence, death, etc.) notes. STRICTLY PLATONIC. demon slayer!reader. reader uses mist breathing. gn!reader. they/them used. fluff. 1.2k words. wrote this impulsively instead of studying :3
kyojuro ver.
in all honesty, muichiro never planned on taking on a tsuguko. he didn't care too much about finding a successor, and even if he did, there wasn't a single demon slayer in the corps who had what it took to be the next mist hashira. they were all too cowardly, too brash, too loud, or too timid. mist breathing was an art form, and the demon slayers were messy toddlers playing with finger paints. none of them caught his eye.
well. except for one.
he was walking in step with shinobu, on their way to a hashira when the sound of fighting interrupted his cloud-watching. he glanced away for a moment to locate the source of the sound, seeing a lithe figure hacking and slashing across a training dummy with strikes of—was that mist breathing?
this was immediately followed by pestering a thoroughly uninterested shinobu with endless questions—who is that demon slayer? have i met them before? how long have they been here?—until he inevitably forgot all about them. shinobu, however remembered.
she was tending to one of their injuries when she casually mentioned muichiro's sudden interest in their mist breathing.
“tokito seemed impressed with your skills, when he saw you. truthfully, there aren’t many mist breathing users in the corps as of late, which is why we weren’t able to find you a teacher. it seems you’ve been learning plenty on your own, however. who knows, maybe you might end up as his tsuguko!”
the words were an off-handed joke, but they took them seriously nonetheless. all of the demon slayers knew that the mist hashira didn't have or want a tsuguko, but [name] needed a teacher and well... they might as well try, even if it's in vain.
when muichiro got the application, he was puzzled. for starters, he had no memory of who this random demon slayer was, or why they wanted him to be their mentor. a quick refresher from mitsuri—who had been told the entire story over tea with shinobu, and was reading over his shoulder when he got the letter—and he learnt that they were not only a mist breathing user, but one of the most talented demon slayers in the corps.
it didn't take him long to come to his conclusion. most of the demon slayer corps may be useless, but who was he to deny one of the few talented demon slayers the chance to improve upon their skills?
his fellow hashira were surprised by his choice, but he just shrugged away their questions.
“if they're useless, i'll just give up on them. simple as that.”
training with muichiro is... intense. he has very high expectations of his student, which is one of the reasons few demon slayers even consider him as a mentor. they need to be agile enough to dodge a flurry of his attacks, quick enough to land a hit on him, and strong enough to cut through stone.
but to his surprise, they were quick to meet his expectations. in addition, their control over mist breathing was remarkably powerful, even if it paled in comparison to his own. most of their lessons turned from standard swordsmanship—of which they had already underwent plenty of training—to teaching them different techniques to master their skills.
the first time they trained together, he used wooden training swords. every instance after that, he insisted they used their own weapons instead.
“why would we bother with training swords? do you plan on beheading demons with these flimsy things?”
for the first few weeks, he continuously forgot that he even had a tsuguko. he wouldn't show up to their scheduled practices, leaving them waiting for hours, and were met with a blank stare when they finally tracked him down.
once they started training regularly though, they slowly began to cement themself in his memory. he would even make a point to jot down notes in a small journal to keep track of what he thought was important enough to remember about them.
although, much of what he deemed 'important' was rather trivial. some of his notes include: [name] is my tsugoku. they are allergic to [food]. their favourite colour is [colour]. they don't like it when i am late, even if they don't get angry at me. bring them a paper airplane the next time we meet.
how he treats them overall would differ depending on their age. if they were about the same age as him, or even younger, he would have a deep desire to protect them stirring in his gut. he can't quite narrow down the part of him that aches to keep them safe, but when he looks at them he sees a mirror of himself, young and scared and needing someone to shelter them from harm.
god forbid anyone try to give them a hard time for any reason. human or demon, that is his tsuguko and he'll be damned if he let anything happen to them.
on the opposite side of the spectrum, if they happened to be older than him... he would find it endlessly amusing. they try to pull the 'i'm literally older than you' card? well too bad, he's got the 'and yet you're the only one of us who isn't a hashira' card.
he would honestly treat them like an older sibling, if unconsciously. even if he's technically their mentor, he holds a great deal of respect towards them for their strength and bravery, and would look up to them a lot. definitely would try to impress them with his mist breathing.
no matter their age, he is very proud of them. when they go on their first solo mission after becoming his tsuguko and return victorious, he brags to anyone that will listen. someone try to talk about their own mission? he's cutting in with-
“but did you hear about [name]? they actually defeated a demon twice the strength of that one.”
but after muichiro regains his memories... oh boy.
i think they would be the first person he seeks out after he returns from the swordsmith village. he would make a beeline for their room, ignoring everyone else in his path. they're sitting on their bed and startle as he enters, but he just collapses on top of their sheets beside them. no amount of questioning earns them anything more than a mumble as a response. it's clear he's upset, but without knowing why, there is little they can do.
eventually they settle with cautiously pulling him into a hug, and can feel the tension leak out of his body as he melts into the embrace. no words are spoken, but it doesn't take long for him to start to cry.
he mumbles the entire story with his face buried in the front of their clothes, recounting the memories of his past that had returned to him mid-battle. he describes his brother, his parents, his home that is long gone.
even through his tears, they don't let him go, listening while tracing soothing circles across his back.
it's then that he realizes it: he might have lost everyone he loved, but that doesn't mean he doesn't still have a family, of sorts.
even if he never planned on taking on a tsuguko, muichiro is happy with the one he ended up with. and though he isn't the most conventional mentor, they are more than happy with him too.

Some Murder Deer headcanons
oh nooo please don't get dragged into the deer AU haha... unless...
here's some headcanons & ideas I got while drawing these funky lil' cervidae! enjoy... I guess?!
The Deers in general
They're considered "fawns" until the age of 18 years, then they're "bucks" or "does". A gender neutral term does exist in their species - it's simply "cervi".
Their antlers break in (regardless of biological sex) between 15 and 17 years of age.
Antler size can be inherited, but they're mostly fairly small.
Fawns keep their fawn spots as late as 25 years of age. The longer they persist, the smaller the fawns usually are in "final" height. Uzi's e.g stayed until she was 25 and she's fairly small for her species.
Copper-9 & the Absolute Solver
The entire story sets place on an earth-like exoplanet that - similar to alot of xenofiction (e.g Guardians of Ga'hoole) - has one main race populating the planet (in this case, species of the cervidae family)
The Absolute Solver is an Eldritch Organism that is fascinated by the different kinds of mammals and species on exoplanets, slowly incooperating itself into different planets, imitating their populating species and slowly rotting the planet from the core until it is no more.
On Copper-9 it finds the many cervidae looking creatures, taking on the shape of a musk deer like entity (no antlers, sharp canines, for some reasons wants to devour flesh) - seeing how alot of the main individuals have antlers it develops a secondary obsession with antlers.
The AS incooperates the body of a deceased deer, Cyn, which it found rotting away in a forest. After taking the corpse and making it it's host body it found a small 'family' (herd) of deer which included Tessa, a young doe aged 20 that isn't opposed to welcome new indiviuals into the herd. Her parents however, the leading pair of the herd, do not agree and cast "Cyn"/AS aside.
Intruiged by Tessa's welcoming presence despite the herd's cold aura the AS slowly managed to gain her trust by meeting, playing the role of a young doe lost alone in this world ("Cyn") - and Tessa takes the bait easily.
Long yap session short story, the AS kills Tessa, eats her remains and removes her antlers to fuse them to itself, as well as parts of her fur to appear more like her, hoping it could "become" her in a twisted sense of identity seeking.
The Solvers emblem appears on the "users" forehead and they can use it to regenerate and telepathically carry things around with them. An infected user needs blood to sustain themselves as they'll throw up anything that isn't blood or flesh (for example, the deer on Copper-9 eat a plant based diet).
Solver Users/hosts also grow elongated canines and sharp teeth similar to "Cyn"/AS and it's musk deer body.
The Disassembly Squads
The AS creates the Disassembly "Drones" like it did in the OG story, shaping them after deer. Similar to the OG DDs their true eyes sit on their antlers while the ones in their faces are just to blend in (well... as much as they blend in looking like they do LOL).
The DDs are created from slaughtered members of Tessa's former herd, including N(ari), V(erika) and J(ane).
The DDs also have long canines and eat flesh. They're larger than normal deer and while not capable of flight (lack of wings) they're extremely agile and fast, able to quickly outmaneuver their prey.
N, V and J have fragmented memories of their former lives before being killed and rebuilt which do haunt them. J and V suffer the most from this, N is spared for the most part.
J was Tessa's best friend and almost-partner back before they were all slaughtered, and she still remembers this. "Cyn"/AS promises J to bring back Tessa if she does what it commands of her - trusting it to keep it's word. It doesn't. Doomed Yuri.
J is killed off fairly early by Khan when he chases them out of the forest as he manages to pierce her heart with his antlers, which does kill the DDs - usually alot of deer's antlers are too short, but Khan's cool, so he has very big ones. B)
Uzi & her family
They're now called "Doemans" (yes, you may slap me) - and live in a fairly protected herd away from most dangers in a hidden forest.
Nori was killed by N but returned as ghostly entity. She lost her eye in a battle with "Cyn" but was able to escape before being destroyed - she now serves as some sort of guardian for the Cathedral the humans once inhabited, wearing a cross she found as roseary around her neck; knowing it holds the key to kill the AS.
Khan raised Uzi alone and is the main leader of the herd, thus he's a BADASS in this AU. He won't hesitate to fight N when he tried to kill off Uzi, even being able to chase him off.
Uzi is a late bloomer in regards to her antlers - most fawns get them between the age of 15-17 years, Uzi still hasn't gotten her's at the age of 19 and feels extremely sensitive about this topic. Do not mention it unless you want her to cry internally. She gets mocked over this by some of the fawns in her age range. :'))
Khan doesn't allow Uzi to go outside of the forest's borders until her antlers grow in. She hates this - and sneaks out (only to meet N, V and J - whoops!)
Due to her missing antlers N doesn't really recognize her as prey, so he is friendly until V and J are like "dude that's still a deer?? fucking idiot??" and he's like "but she's so nice to me :'(("
That's when you run, Uzi. And have your dad fight N. And win. Because in this AU he doesn't suck!! >:(
Uzi gets the Solver from her mother like in the OG, where Nori is infected by "Cyn" during their fight. It activates during N's attack on her.
Other people
Doll also has her Solver in this AU! She and her family originate from a different part of Copper-9 and lived with different herds which is why their language differs from those in Khan's herd. They mainly got along by communicating through body language :D
Yeva & Nikolai, her parents, where killed by V when they attempted to leave the forest for food. Doll escaped because V didn't spot the fawn hiding in the tall grass - and this activated Doll's Solver. Ever since she's wandering about alone, trying to find a cure for herself. She also loses her eye in another quarrel later on.
Doll's fate is similar to the OG show with "Cyn" eating her corpse after killing her in a vunerable position.
Lizzy & Thad are also around and they're siblings! They're the first fawns in the herd to tag along with Khan to help and find Uzi. Lizzy is still the chattermouth she is in the show and Thad likes to be active. It's the deer ADHD. Their father is the teacher (who isn't a teacher to be exact in this AU... but something similar B))

At least a few stories compared Eraserhead to Batman, as they would both fight Quirkless and are ambush fighters... Except Batman is extremely cunning, a tool user, and a master martial artist that can often punch his way to victory even with foes that aren't so scared by his theatricals (and next time will be scared by just how strong he is. Batman: TAS even has a mook that got in a fight with Batman early in the episode, then later stumbles on him rifling through his boss' documents and just leaves to not get beaten up again), while Aizawa relies a lot on his opponents freaking out as he shuts down their Quirks or otherwise underestimating him and is in serious trouble with foes he can't freak out (see Shigaraki figuring out the limits of Erasure just to prove he could, or Himiko ambushing HIM).
The real MHA answer to Batman is Knuckleduster. He may lack the funds and gadgets, but he's a deceptively agile giant of a man and master fighter that relies mainly on Boxing, extremely cunning, a skilled detective, scary as they come, and more than a little crazy and aware of it, just like Batman (whose no kill rule exists mostly because he's perfectly aware to not be much saner than so many of his enemies and he doesn't want to lose it completely).
I feel like I've covered all of this on this blog before, though I would argue that Batman's refusal to kill stems from the fact that he is defined by a profound personal loss he would never inflict on anyone else. I'm sure everyone here knows the OSP Red quote about how if you can't imagine Batman comforting a dying girl then you've written Punisher in a funny hat.
It might be interesting to compare Nighteye to Batman, or certain depictions of Batman, given his control freak nature, lack of tact, detective ability, etc.

Wind-Based Magic System
So, I want to share the magic system I've been working on for my story! I wanted to make something at least a little bit unique, and since the fight for freedom is my main theme, and I've always loved using the wind as a metaphor for freedom, I landed on a magic system that revolves around the concept of wind.
It's named Windcalling! Or just Calling, for short. It's users are, thus, Windcallers, or simply Callers.
Callers are divided into ten Kins, each of which has access to two Wings of Calling. Said Wings are as follows:
Manipulation: It grants the user precise control over the air/wind in a wide area around them, including manifested/solid wind (see Manifestation below). This allows them to create strong currents in whichever direction they please. Seen as the weakest power, but it has great synergy with all the other wings.
Manifestation: It grants the user the power to manifest wind, giving it a solid form, also called Wind Essence. It can have any shape. Essence is extremely hard and tough, but light.
Mutation: It grants the user the power to change the composition of the air in several ways. The most typical is accelerating/decelerating the particles that make it up, heating/cooling their surroundings.
Internalization: It grants the user the power to metabolize wind, obtaining enhanced strength and agility. Also has great synergy with the other wings.
Deception: It grants the user the power to create artificial sounds, sights and even smells.
Each Kin also has unique powers that are born out of the combination of their Wings. The ten Kins are as follows:
Stormbringers (Mutation/Manipulation): Can manipulate the weather.
Skywatchers (Manipulation/Internalization): Can change their weight.
Truthshapers (Deception/Manifestation): Can create solid illusions.
Windbreakers (Manipulation/Manifestation): Can Manipulate the objects they manifest.
Bladecasters (Mutation/Manifestation): Can heat up/freeze the objects they manifest.
Soothsayers (Mutation/Deception): Can cause hallucinations that only select people see.
Talebearers (Manipulation/Deception): Can communicate from far away by transmitting sound via the air.
Soulstealers (Deception/Internalization): Can change their own appearance.
Willkeepers (Manifestation/Internalization): Can create thin layers of Essence around their skin that act as armor.
Snowdrifters (Mutation/Internalization): Can regulate their body temperature and are immune to high heat/freezing cold.
If anyone is wondering; yes, it's possible that I was reading the Stormlight Archive when I came up with this system.
The main magic users in this setting are nobles from the highlands (for more info, see my post from a few days ago where I share a fragment of the novel this system is from and I explain a tiny bit of relevant worldbuilding). There are nine noble houses, known as the High Houses, that are the overlords of the continent. Each High House is related to one Kin of Windcalling. So, for example, the House of Calais is made up of Bladecasters, and so on.
As far as everyone knows, the power is genetic. The members of each High house have natural access to Calling. They're supposed to be descended from the ancient legendary figures known as the Guardians, who were the first to wield magic. You may notice, however, that the numbers don't match. Ten Kins. Nine Houses. There is a reason for that, and a reason why one Guardian was wiped from the legends. The truth is, there is more to this power than it seems. However... that is a story for another day.
...did I make you curious? Hahahaha, I hope so. In any case, I hope to keep sharing stuff about this story that's been living in my brain for the past, gosh, nearly three years now? I'm thinking of doing some character introductions next, concerning my dual protagonists, Saroth and Leiden. A lowlander and a highlander, both of whom have, as far as they're concerned, lost everything (you can read a few paragraphs from Leiden's POV in the post previously mentioned!). If you would be interested in that, it's coming soon, so keep an eye out! I love talking about my brainworms very much, and I enjoy it when others take joy out of listening to me do it :]
Have a wonderful day, my friends, and I wish all of you all the luck in the world in your own creative endeavors! I'm rooting for each and every one of you.
EDIT: Saroth's character introduction is up! You can check it out here :>

On Loki in Marvel Rivals
Disclaimer: I know very little about the comics, except what I learned from posts here on Tumblr. Also, this will be a very long post.
I think Marvel Rivals did a great job with Loki's moveset. He's a ton of fun to play and other then that I kind of miss a move with throwing knives, I think his fighting style matches with what we see in the 2011-2013 movies. He is quite a bit slower though.
Loki's character model is very weird, you've probably seen the screenshot by another user that commented on his weird figure in the game. He has a narrow waist, but is uncharacteristically muscular and has broad shoulders. Just no. At least they didn't give him the over-muscular arms many male characters seem to have in this game. Some design choices here are a bit... questionable, to say the least. As for the outfit, I think OG!MCU!Loki would definitely wear the coat, pants and outer armour pieces, but I'm not sure about the rest of the outfit, especially that neck thing. I just don't think that's his style. I also have a bit of beef with what they did with his helmet. Those extra pointy bits are so unpractically. It will hinder with movement and Loki tends to rely on agility a lot in his fighting style (in the MCU at least, I still don't get why they made him so bulky here). The whole thing also looks a bit overdesigned when compared with the MCU's far more smooth design. I do like that the Jotun!Loki skin has the MCU!Jotnar design, since it's definitely a lot better than their design in the comics.
And now the elephant in the room: characterisation. The characterisation of all the characters in the game tends to borrow more from the comics, but some elements are taken from the MCU. Especially the fact that Hela is still the sister of Thor and Loki. However, the Scarlet Witch thankfully gets to have her comics backstory and personality rather than some of the more questionable things they did to her in the MCU (cough AoU cough).
This also goes for Loki, who seems to be most inspired by the older comics interpretations of him. The main point about his character that they keep pushing is that he wants to rule Asgard. SIGH. Guys, I know this is what the older comics used to be like but this hasn't been a thing for quite a while now. Neither MCU!Loki (series and Ragnarok don't count due to grave mischaracterisation sins) nor recent interpretations of comics!Loki want the throne. In fact, in the comics, Thor even says that any Loki who says they want a throne is a liar. Of course, being an entirely different timeline/canon/interpretation, Rivals can do whatever it likes and unlike the show and Ragnarok and some comic runs you can't really fault it for that. But still, I would've like to see an AoA or post AoA Loki interpretation for this game personality wise.
He is also quite arrogant in some of his lines, though some of them are reminiscent of some of the showboating from The Avengers. The thing is, even comics!Loki has/had a lot of self-esteem issues so just waiving those away doesn't sit well with me. On the other hand though, he seems comfortable with himself so good for him.
Sadly, they're going with the Loki is an untrustworthy, scheming bastard that must not be liked by any other character thing and the whole "christianised Tricksters are evil" thing and I had hoped for a more nuanced takek, personally. Especially since Thor and Odin are framed as 100 percent good people. Writers, I get that this is a funny hero shooter game and you wanted a Thor-Loki conflict for the Asgard maps, but you're letting so much nuance slide here.
The story is that apparently, Loki saw many futures in which Asgard was destroyed and the only thing way it and its people survive is if he gets to rule it, which confirms to him that he is meant to do just that. To this end he puts Odin in the Odinsleep and banishes Thor to a different timeline and strikes up an alliance with Hela, who wants to expand Hel. It's left in the middle if he's going to betray her or not. In order to save (at least, judging from backstory, I hope that's where they're going) Asgard, Loki wants to reshape the future using the Chronovium from Yggdrasil, which is causing it to die and obviously Thor is trying to stop that, assuming that Loki is just trying to conquer everything. So yeah, the game implies that Loki is just an evil tyrant (give me back nuanced Loki and nuanced Loki-Thor family dynamics, please!), especially since Ratatoskr seems to beg the player to save Asgard from him and Hela, because surely they will cause Ragnarok (the apocalypse not the movie in this case) or something (to be fair Hela wanting to expand Hel is a bit problematic but still, I want my messed up Asgardian family dynamics).
It's a bit unclear but I'm assuming they're going with the comics backstory where the adoption happened later and they didn't lie to him about it. There is a bit of phrasing in his profile that I absolutely hate due to what it implies: "but his true nature could not be undone and Loki would come to fully embrace his role as the God of Mischief" (by Odin's adoption and raising of him). Guys this implies that he was A. Born inadequate or B. Frost Giants as a race are uncivilised. Which is very bad. But also that he had to be civilised, which... Yikes. I'm sure this is not what they intended, since from surrounding context it's more about his identitiy as God of Mischief, but still terrible phrasing.
However, there are also good things about his characterisation. People, they've characterised him as actually competent! This is already such an improvement over the recent MCU characterisation that I'm willing to cut everything except the True Nature thing a bit of slack (I know, the bar is in Hela's realm right now). Also, his sass is amazing again and he has some great lines. I think given the writing and characterisation, his VA did a solid job with him. And while the characters are wary of and often actively dislike Loki, it never feels like the game is trying to humiliate him, which is again a breath of fresh air.
Loki does have a weird facial expression at some moments in the game. It's like he deliberately pulls the most evil face he can think off just for kicks, which is a very Loki thing to do, to be fair. That and the obvious scheming face and pose that reminds me of the infamous Ragnarok mural also exists in the game. (You know, the one that depicts Loki with exactly such a face and that couldn't even have been made in canon since Loki is in his TDW appearance and he was in prison at that time?). Sadly, I think the game implies it as serious, which is a missed opportunity. (To quote Fury: "I recognise that the council game devs have made a decision, but seeing as it's a stupid ass decision, I've elected to ignore it.") Also, between this and the arrogance, it does seem like they've made him into a bit of a charicature of himself, but again they're not actively humiliating him, so while I kind of hate, I do feel myself willing to forgive it. I think it's more that they've taken his facade at face value than anything else, which is why they're missing all the nuance. Still, this was made in better faith than Ragnarok and the show. I just think that these particular writers weren't at all familiar with the Asgardian characters (do correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not sure who the writers of this game are).
There is a conversation between Loki and Psylocke where Psylocke states that god or not, respect is something to be earned not taken, to which Loki replies with: "Clearly you haven't met my father" and I love that. Also, if you play Strange on Thor's team on the Yggsgard convoy mission map, an NPC version of Loki will show up to taunt him, which to me feels like revenge for Ragnarok (the movie, not the apocalypse in this case). This made me laugh out loud.
Another thing that I liked is that while there was a reward that you can get if you as Hela team up with Loki to defeat Thor and there is a reward for using the backstab move, there is also a reward for helping Thor as Loki, called brotherly love. (Sadly, there is also a Hulk Smash award for smashing Loki. Because *iconic* scene. In the movie it was fine, even somewhat funny the first time, but this joke has grown a bit stale now. Especially considering recent developments in the MCU characterisation wise.)
(By the way the backstab move which honestly feels to me like Xenoblade's infamous backslash, and makes me internally yell out said Xenoblade art's name everytime I use it. Positional extra damage is a valid tactic to me and totally not a scummy move in a game where everyone gangs up on the healers from behind. Spark you implications about traitors!)
To finish, I have very mixed feelings about this characterisation. there are a lot of things that were done better than in the recent MCU interpretations, but also a lot of this I just completely disagree with. Still, for me it's not so glaring that I want to stop playing the game and since it's entirely it's own continuity it likely won't affect anything else (going to knock on wood here). They really don't need to use the og!mcu!characterisation, I just want some nuance here and I disagree with all those people yelling about this game having perfect characterisation's especially since characterisation has varied between movies and comics runs. I also kind of want to see the more modern comics interpretation or even better, the og!MCU!characterisation in a game. But that's wishful thinking. Here's to hoping they don't do anything unforgivable with him in the rest of the lore, since I do enjoy playing the game. I would hate to have to rage quit over unforgivable characterisation sins like in the MCU.
#not that I'm not occasionally raging over being stuck in unfair situations in this game.#the true Loki experience people: cleaning up other people's messes#loki deserves better#og!mcu!loki supremacy#marvel rivals#marvel rivals critical#like I said mixed bag#loki#anti thor ragnarok#anti loki series

Starlit bonds
CH. 4 - trigger and trust
[← back] [→ next]
A/n : well hopefully this isn’t getting boring thanks for all the likes and comments I really appreciate it after being in a writers block for years.
☆ Content: choosing weapons, more combat.
📌 Synopsis:
When a Wander breaches the ship, Sylus faces his first real combat—and his first real choice. With Y/N by his side, he learns that victory isn’t just about skill, but trust.
Characters: Sylus, Kaela, Reyna, Nova, Y/N.
As Sylus tapped Continue Story, the screen faded to black before transitioning into a new scene. A soft hum of the ship’s engines filled the air as the game resumed, and a notification popped up:
[Chapter 1: Into the Unknown]
(Into the unknooooooooooooooon)
The camera panned in on the training bay, a high-tech facility lined with reinforced walls and holographic combat dummies. Y/N stood at the center, their fingers tapping nervously against a small wrist console.
They glanced up as Sylus approached, shifting slightly on their feet. “Oh… you’re here.”
Nova was leaning against a nearby wall, arms crossed. “Took you long enough. The Captain needs to learn how to fight if he’s going to survive out here.”
Kaela smirked. “Or at least, not embarrass himself in front of us.”
Reyna simply adjusted her glasses, scanning a data pad. “This will be useful. Everyone needs a specialty.”
Y/N cleared their throat, drawing Sylus’ focus back to them. “Um, the others might be better at fighting, but I know the basics… and it’s important to be ready. Sometimes… things get inside the ship.”
A soft chime echoed, and a weapon selection screen appeared:
[Choose Your Weapon]
Each crew member had their own unique weapon, displayed on the menu beside their character profile. Sylus scrolled through the options, reading over their descriptions:
1. Nova’s Dual Blades – High-speed, close-range combat. Requires agility and precision.
2. Kaela’s Plasma Gauntlets – Heavy-hitting melee attacks with shockwave capabilities.
3. Reyna’s Precision Rifle – Long-range sniper weapon. Deadly from a distance.
4. Y/N’s Energy Bow – A versatile weapon with charged shots and silent takedown capabilities.
At the bottom of the screen, a fifth option appeared:
5. Prototype Combat Knife & Sidearm (basically a pistol) – A balanced choice with melee and ranged potential. Recommended for first-time users.
Y/N hesitated before speaking. “Each of us uses a weapon suited to our strengths. But you… you get to choose your own.”
Nova smirked. “No pressure, Captain. Just don’t pick something you can’t handle.”
Sylus hovered over the choices, weighing his options.
Each weapon felt like more than just a tool—it was a reflection of his playstyle, his approach to the game. Did he want speed? Power? Precision? Or something entirely unique?
His gaze lingered on each weapon, considering how they would shape not only his fighting style but also his role among the crew.
Nova’s Dual Blades were sleek and deadly, perfect for fast, agile combat. If he wanted to rely on speed and precision, this was the way to go.
• Kaela’s Plasma Gauntlets offered raw power—close-quarters devastation that could send enemies flying. Heavy-hitting, but it would require strength and endurance.
• Reyna’s Precision Rifle appealed to the strategist in him. Keeping enemies at a distance, picking them off with well-placed shots—it was a cool, calculated approach.
• Y/N’s Energy Bow was silent, precise, and versatile. It required patience, but its charged shots packed a punch. Something about it intrigued him.
And then, at the bottom of the list, there was the Prototype Combat Knife & Sidearm. A balanced choice—good for both close-range and ranged engagements. It was the safest option, but also the most neutral.
As Sylus hovered over the choices, a soft notification popped up in the corner of the screen:
[Your weapon choice will influence combat interactions, story events, and crew relationships.]
He smirked. Of course it will.
Nova pushed off the wall, arms still crossed. “What’s it gonna be, Captain?”
Kaela leaned in slightly, watching with interest. “Better choose wisely.”
Reyna remained quiet, simply observing. Y/N, on the other hand, fidgeted slightly, eyes flickering to their bow before looking away.
Sylus’ thumb hovered over the screen.
Sylus’ decision wasn’t just about combat; it was a statement.
He tapped the screen, locking in his selection: Prototype Combat Knife & Sidearm.
The option glowed beneath his thumb, and the soft chime of confirmation echoed through the room. Balanced. Versatile. Unaligned. This wasn’t just a weapon—it was a choice that would define how he fought, how he led, and how the crew would see him moving forward.
Nova nodded approvingly. “Interesting choice. Fits your style.”
Kaela smirked. “Going for the well-rounded approach? Smart.”
Reyna offered a small nod, her eyes flicking toward the interface before returning to her datapad.
But it was Y/N’s reaction that caught his attention. For a moment, he thought he saw a flicker of disappointment in their expression—barely there, quickly hidden as they looked away.
He wasn’t sure why that hit him the way it did.
But it disappeared as quickly as it had come. Instead, Y/N gave him a small nod, their fingers tightening around the strap of their wrist console.
“That’s… a good choice,” they murmured, though there was something hesitant in their tone.
Sylus raised an eyebrow, watching them carefully. Y/N wasn’t the type to speak their mind openly, but for some reason, he felt like they had wanted him to choose differently.
Before he could ask, the screen flickered, and a combat tutorial prompt appeared:
[Combat Basics: Learn to Engage]
Objective: Use your chosen weapon to eliminate a simulated enemy threat. Test your reflexes and accuracy.
The environment around them shifted—the training bay’s walls transformed into a holographic simulation, revealing a dimly lit corridor filled with flickering emergency lights. The ship AI’s voice echoed overhead:
“Scenario loaded. Simulated hostile detected. Begin engagement.”
A humanoid figure materialized at the far end of the corridor, its glowing red eyes locking onto Sylus. It was an automaton—likely a training drone—but its movements were eerily lifelike.
Y/N stepped closer. “You’ll want to start with the basics—your knife for close-quarters, your sidearm for distance.”
A new interface appeared on the screen, mapping out his controls:
• Tap to shoot
• Swipe to dodge
• Hold to switch between melee and ranged attacks
Sylus smirked. Let’s see what this thing can do.
The drone rushed forward. His instincts kicked in—he tapped the screen, firing off a precise shot. The bullet struck its shoulder, making it stagger. But it didn’t stop.
“Careful!” Y/N warned. “They adapt—go for a weak point!”
A target reticle flashed over the drone’s exposed leg joint. Sylus quickly swiped, switching to his knife, and lunged forward. A quick slash, a vibration from his phone, and the drone collapsed.
[Simulation Complete! Combat Skill +3 | Weapon Proficiency Unlocked]
As the holographic scene faded, Nova let out a low whistle. “Not bad, Captain.”
Kaela grinned. “You didn’t trip over yourself, so I’d call that a win.”
Reyna gave him an approving nod. “You learn fast. That’ll serve you well.”
Y/N, however, simply watched him, their expression unreadable. Then, quietly, they spoke.
“There’s more to combat than just skill. You’ll see that soon enough.”
A small chime rang out, signaling the end of the tutorial. Another notification appeared:
[Chapter 1: Mission Unlocked – Intruder Alert]
Not all threats come from outside. When a Wander infiltrates the ship, the crew must work together to neutralize it before it’s too late.
Sylus exhaled, gripping his phone a little tighter.
This game wasn’t playing around. And neither was he.
As Sylus stood amidst the flickering holographic remnants of the training simulation, a new system prompt appeared on his screen:
[Partner Selection: Choose Your Combat Ally]
Each crew member has a unique combat style and special abilities. Choose wisely—the bond you form in battle may shape future encounters.
The screen displayed each of the four women, their character portraits subtly animated as if waiting for his decision. Beside their images, their Default Combat Cards were displayed—special abilities that could be leveled up as the game progressed.
Nova – The Bladed Storm
• Weapon: Dual Blades
• Default Card: Phantom Strikes – A flurry of rapid slashes, overwhelming enemies with sheer speed.
• Playstyle: High-speed melee combat, focusing on quick evasion and aggressive offense.
Nova’s portrait had a confident smirk, her arms crossed as if daring him to choose her.
“Pick me, and we’ll make quick work of whatever’s coming.”
Kaela – The Shockwave Brawler
• Weapon: Plasma Gauntlets
• Default Card: Titan’s Fist – A ground-shaking punch that sends shockwaves through the battlefield, stunning enemies.
• Playstyle: Heavy-hitting melee combat, excelling in crowd control and raw power.
Kaela’s image flickered slightly as she leaned lazily against the training bay’s counter, her smirk playful.
“You want someone to keep the fight fun? I’m your girl.”
Reyna – The Deadeye Tactician
• Weapon: Precision Rifle
• Default Card: Hawkeye’s Mark – A critical shot that locks onto an enemy’s weak point, dealing massive damage.
Playstyle: Long-range combat, specializing in precision and strategic positioning.
Reyna’s gaze was steady and unreadable in her portrait.
“If you want results, you’ll need someone who doesn’t miss.”
Y/N – The Phantom Archer
• Weapon: Energy Bow
• Default Card: Silent Requiem – A charged shot that bypasses armor and disables enemy movement for a short time.
• Playstyle: Versatile mid-to-long-range combat, emphasizing precision and status effects.
Unlike the others, Y/N looked slightly uncertain in their image, their fingers fidgeting near the strap of their wrist console. But there was a quiet determination in their expression as well.
“I-I’ll do my best to help. If… if you choose me.”
Sylus exhaled, his thumb hovering over the options.
The ship’s AI chimed overhead, signaling an incoming threat.
He had to decide.
Now.
Sylus’ gaze was drawn to Y/N’s image on the screen, their expression hinting at a mixture of uncertainty and determination. Their words echoed in his mind:
“I’ll do my best to help. If… if you choose me.”
He glanced at the others—their confident smirks and calm expressions. They were undoubtedly capable, but… something about Y/N’s quiet resolve struck him differently. They were the one he couldn’t quite read, the one whose vulnerability spoke volumes beneath the surface he yearned to uncover.
With a decisive tap, Sylus selected Y/N as his combat partner.
[Partner Selected: Y/N – The Phantom Archer]
• Weapon Equipped: Energy Bow
• Combat Card: Silent Requiem – A charged shot that bypasses armor and disables enemy movement for a short time.
The moment he made his choice, the training bay dimmed, and a loud klaxon echoed through the ship. A flashing red alert appeared at the top of the screen:
[INTRUDER ALERT: WANDER DETECTED ONBOARD]
The environment shifted, transitioning into the real fight. The game’s immersive quality was astonishing—Sylus could almost feel the tension in the air as the ship’s corridors darkened, emergency lighting casting eerie glows against the metal walls.
Y/N stood beside him, gripping their energy bow with both hands. They exhaled softly, their fingers brushing against the bowstring as it crackled with glowing energy.
“We can do this,” they murmured, mostly to themself, before glancing at him with an almost hesitant nod.
“I-I mean, I won’t slow you down, Captain.”
Before he could respond, a mechanical screech echoed down the hallway.
A Wander appeared—a grotesque, shifting mass of shadows and metallic limbs, its glowing red eyes locked onto them. The tutorial combat HUD activated, overlaying the fight mechanics on his phone screen.
[Combat Start!]
• Tap to fire the sidearm
• Swipe to dodge incoming attacks
• Hold and release to charge Y/N’s bow attack
Sylus aimed quickly, tapping the screen to fire off a few sidearm shots. The bullets hit, but the Wander barely staggered—it was armored, resistant to basic attacks.
Y/N’s voice cut through the tension.
“Aim for the joints! That’s where the armor is weakest!”
He followed their advice, targeting the creature’s exposed limbs. A well-placed shot hit its leg, making it stumble.
“Nice shot!” Y/N called out, their voice carrying a quiet excitement.
“Keep going—we can wear it down!”
The Wander let out a distorted shriek and lunged. Sylus swiped his thumb across the screen, making his character roll just in time to avoid the strike. His phone vibrated subtly with the impact.
“Watch out! Stay light on your feet!” Y/N warned, repositioning themself.
A glowing indicator flashed over their weapon—their Special Ability was charged.
“Captain—I can disable it, but I need a clear shot!”
A quick-time event popped up:
[TAP NOW TO ACTIVATE: SILENT REQUIEM]
Sylus reacted instantly. He tapped the screen, and Y/N pulled back their bowstring, a concentrated pulse of energy crackling along the arrow’s surface.
“Steady… and… release!”
The energy shot struck the Wander directly in the chest, sending a pulse through its body. The creature convulsed, its limbs locking up as the disabling effect took hold.
A final “FINISH IT!” prompt appeared on-screen. Sylus raised his sidearm one last time, taking aim—
BANG.
The Wander let out a final shriek before collapsing into a smoking heap.
VICTORY!
[Combat Complete! Battle Experience +10 | Y/N Affinity Increased]
The emergency lighting returned to normal, and the game’s UI faded back into exploration mode. Y/N lowered their bow, exhaling slowly. They looked up at him, a small but genuine smile on their lips.
“We… we did it.”
Sylus smirked, his heart still racing from the fight.
“Yeah. We make a good team.”
Y/N’s blush darkened slightly, and they quickly looked away, tucking a strand of hair behind their ear.
“I-I’m glad you think so.”
Before he could do anything else, a soft chime rang out, signaling the end of the tutorial phase. A new objective appeared on-screen:
[CHAPTER 1 COMPLETE!]
New Ship Functions Unlocked: Crew Missions | Combat Training | Personal Interactions
As the game transitioned back to the Home Screen, the familiar sight of the crew lounge returned. But this time, there was a subtle difference—Y/N, who had been more withdrawn before, was now sitting closer to where his character’s presence would be, glancing up at him between reading on their datapad.
Sylus exhaled, sinking back into his seat.
He had started this game on a whim.
But now?
He wasn’t sure he wanted to stop.
A/n: gonna end here I was gonna add some myth card content but this chap was probably already getting long so sorry if this was boring but thanks for reading.

is it possible to write a fight scene with a wheelchair user and a abled body person? How would I go about doing that? I've spent months in a wheelchair before so I know a lot about that but I've thankfully never fought someone in that state. Would I have to add weapons?
I remember covering this a long time ago.
Given you have the background experience, I can skim over some of this. Obviously you're familiar with how much harder it is to get around, and the general loss of mobility and reach. Ironically, with the original, I had some pushback for pointing out that. Yes, you're not going to be as agile if you're in a chair.
However, there is one major advantage for someone who's been in a chair for years. It's a little tricky to operationalize, but is extremely dangerous. When you're in a chair, you're using your hands and arms to propel your body, all the time. This means that people who are confined to a chair will build up far more muscle strength in their hands and arms. If they have the combat training to use that, it can make them a frighteningly effective grappler.
Being able to add weapons to a fight, particularly when your opponent won't be doing so, is always a nice option. Stashing a firearm in the chair is a decent idea, if it will avoid discovery. Similarly, if someone doesn't take the wheelchair bound individual as a serious threat, that could provide an opening for the wheelchair user to fatally stab them.
This more of a general combat advice, but if you have the opportunity to eliminate a threat without giving them the opportunity to fight back, take it. Obviously, this has some limitations in the real world, where assault and homicide charges are a thing, but in a justifiable situation, eliminate foes rather than getting into fights. This is especially important for characters with impairments (like, being in a wheelchair.) If you're in a chair, or limping around with a cane, you really don't want to get into a fight. This is still true, even if you aren't impaired, because a prolonged fight raises a real risk of serious or life altering injuries, so, best to avoid that if at all possible.
The old advice of, “write what you know,” is in full effect here. You understand how much being confined to a wheelchair limits you, so you already understand how much more threatening the prospect of violence is. The thing that might be key to think about is that while your character can work around this, they are still in a more vulnerable position, and will need to be more careful. That means, there's more on the line if they're found. This is not a bad thing. I know I've said it many times before, but your job as a writer is to create a compelling story, and things that limit or impair your characters (in meaningful ways), amplify the threats your characters are facing, which can be good for the story. Not every fight needs to be an epic duel, and sometimes, one character managing to barely scrape out a win through underhanded tactics, when a frontal attack would have ended poorly, can be satisfying.

Hi, I was talking with a user about how quirks can enhance a person's ability, in the sense of strength and speed, and how Izu is far below the rest. Which, I guess, makes sense, but it paints a scene in my mind of, once again, unfairness and a hushed and sloppy storyline.
In Aizawa´s test, Izu did worse than everyone else. Was that the truth? Maybe so, but the guy who can lift fridges is not stronger or faster than the others? (bc if he was that is against AM 10 months and all this kid got as exercise is to clean a beach alone, holy shit Izu is failed by so many people wow)
I don't know if the author is being malicious against Izu (too early for that) or if he is incompetent (or both, really)
No one in UA helps Izu in any way. And he helped against villains (true, he wasn't the only one, but still)
If Izu was doing poorly in terms of strength and agility, than people like Mineta (which I´m sorry, I can't believe it), it marks once again how he doesn't fit in with heroes.
If Aoyama was called Aesop´s bat, then Izu is the ugly duckling. "Oh, but in the story, the ugly duckling became a swan," but for the other ducks, that particular duck IS still hideous.
Hi @mikeellee 👋
From my understanding, the quirk apprehension test is actually the student's quirkless middle school exercise exams, except the only difference here is that they're using their quirks. Aizawa states that he got his results based on calculating their average score.
Now, this makes sense as here students can use their quirks to get a really good score on one test and cover up for tests that they might not be able to do so well on. So, for example, shoji could use his quirk for grip strength and the ball throw test to cover for the sprint test that he might not do so well on due to the nature of his quirk.
However, there are students such as Toruu and Mineta whose quirks may not help them with any of the tests so they would perform at their middle school quirkless level however, there are multiple reasons as to why izuku got last place.
Throughout the tests, Izuku didn't use his quirk at all, focusing on not overexerting himself and accidently breaking his bones. This would have already put him on the bottom half of the list, and even if he has all mights training, that doesn't compete with the rest of the class.
After Izuku uses his quirk and injures himself, he still has to continue, and that did heavily affect his performance on the remaining tests, which would have been his speciality since they were long distance running and a few other tests. Izuku does state that the pain was so bad and that it was definitely a contributing factor as to his low scores.
Horikoshi has set this to be an underdog narrative, so Izuku being at the bottom of the list makes sense if we view it based on Horikoshi's intent

When we are given the leaderboard we aren't actually ever told anyone's scores so even if Izuku did end up at the bottom of the list he could have had really close scores to Mineta and toruu meaning that if it wasn't for the pain due to his finger breaking he could have probably secured a place in the 18th spot or somewhere along that area.

However, the quirk apprehension test does make you question and critique aizawa's teaching style. Is it really ethical to let a student with a broken finger continue? Or to let that child go through his schooling, not knowing how to control his quirk in a safe manner? Is it okay to NOT punish a student after that student tried attacking another student with his quirk?
I think in the end, this goes back to UA being a horrible institution, and while Canon has strong foundations for this, it doesn't ever fully question it.
