While listening to the new podcast that Jacob Anderson was on I seriously got emotional about it. And it was not because of what he said about letting Louis go for a little while.

It was because when Jacob as talking about the other roles that he has had and how usually when he ends a role he doesn’t ever want to celebrate them but with Louis and Interview with the Vampire he decided to do something different. When he took the rocks from the Dubai set and scattered them where he felt most comfortable really felt like for once he was celebrating the work of the past two seasons.

And on top of that it really expressed to me how special IWTV as a show and story is. I know a lot of people have their favorite shows that they obsess over but this show really is something else. Like even Jacob says he is not really a spiritual person and neither am I but this show is so extraordinary that it just feels not of this world. And I don’t mean to sound so sappy or cheesy about this. I mean think about it there have been so many hurdles that this show has had to go through throughout the production of both seasons but it is still such an incredible and transformative show. And on top of that every single person on that set has nothing but great things to say about it. Even Luke Brandon Field who plays young Daniel even said it was his favorite set to ever work on. I can continue on and on including Jacob and Sam finding each other as platonic soulmates through this show. Every single person that has had a hand in the show just loves it so much like it’s not just a job for them but actual art. Frankly the show should not have worked with how many problems it initially had but because everyone loves the source material so much and what they are doing so much that it is almost if all that love was able to create a show like no other.

The last thing I want to bring up is that the show would not be what it is without amc. I know a lot of people take issue with the way that amc handled the marketing and promotion of season 1 and for the most part I can agree with those criticisms but I still would not want any other studio to have taken this story on. We can be frustrated with amc all we want but we have to acknowledge that if this show went to some other streaming giant like Netflix or Max the show would not have been this amazing. AMC, being that it’s a much smaller studio feels to me that they are much more closely connected to their shows. There always seems to be a sort of distance from the big studios to their shows considering they make so much content. And I am praying that I won’t regret when i say this but I just feel like AMC is in it for the long game. And if I do end up being wrong and the show does end up getting cancelled I seriously don’t know what I am going to do with myself.

Even as I type all this out I’m getting teary eyed just thinking about everything. Also I’m sorry for being so dramatic about the show but it really is the most important piece of media that I have ever experienced and no matter what happens in the future it will always be my favorite thing ever.

Sam & Dean are, in fact, soulmates

It’s rant time again! (Sorry)

I saw an idiotic interesting take on Twitter last night where someone claimed that Sam and Dean aren’t soulmates, and that they couldn’t understand how anyone could interpret it that way (particularly referring to "Dark Side of the Moon"). And they actually wondered what show soulmate-truthers (my term) were watching.

Umm, the actual show?

I’ve paraphrased the comment slightly and replies slightly, and I’m not posting a pic of the actual post, because I’m going to try not do that on this blog, but also, this person is just like the others in the replies (and in fandom) who “interpret” the show a certain way because it suits their destiel narrative. They all drank the cool-aid, so why single one out? At the same time, this take shows so little media literacy that it pisses me off. Thus, the rant.

One argument I saw under this tweet was that Dean needed to find a road to lead him to Sam, so it proves they weren’t in the same heaven.

Wrong.

If they weren’t in the same heaven, Dean wouldn’t have been able to find Sam. Period. We know this because Ash has to do a little spell thing in order for them to leave their heaven (“Winchester Land”) at all. They can’t just jump heavens on their own. We also see this in later seasons. People just don’t hop into each others’ heavens without some sort of help.

Another stupid argument I saw is that Sam and Dean can’t be soulmates because "they’re BROTHERS!”

Wrong Again!

While having a soulmate is often (maybe even most often) seen as a romantic trope, being soulmates is actually not inherently romantic. Let’s even just stay on the WB/CW level for this one for a minute. Dawson and Joey consider themselves soulmates in Dawson’s Creek, but they don’t make a good couple, they work better as friends, and they don’t end up together. While they aren’t entirely platonic, them being soulmates ultimately isn’t about romantic love either. Sorry, I stumbled onto a reactor watching this show lately, so it’s fresh in my mind. You could also make arguments for Xander and Willow, Joey and Phoebe, or Christina and Meredith (Grey’s Anatomy calls it “my person” being science-based, but it amounts to the same thing). Ultimately, being soulmates just means two people have an incredibly close bond, love each other dearly, understand each other on a deeper level than most, and often need each other. Despite what some hellers think, not all love and closeness is sexual or romantic. Finally, if someone sees being soulmates as having to be romantic, they should probably take it up with Kripke.

Anyway, let’s round this rant off at three flawed arguments with this one: people are “free” (passive aggressive) to interpret the episode how they “like,” but Sam and Dean bring soulmates is not actually supported by the episode.

Ugh!

Why the hell would the writers have Ash even mention soulmates in the scene at all, if it wasn’t to tell the audience (and the boys) something important about the characters? Knowing that soulmates share a heaven isn’t necessary to the plot at this moment (if they aren’t soulmates). We have been told people have individual heavens in most cases, so we don’t need to know the soulmate exception to generally understand how heaven works. But we do get this bit of exposition because 1) it tells us why Dean was able to find Sam on his own (with no spells, even though people don’t usually share a space), and 2) because it tells us the info that they are soulmates, bound together no matter what. It deepens their whole tangled up relationship, for better or worse. Is it a bit unusual for brothers to be soulmates? Yes! That’s the whole point. Sam and Dean are weird. This is not news. Where have these people been for the last 4.5 seasons??

Also, Ash looks directly at Sam and Dean after he drops the soulmate bomb. And each of them looks uncomfortable. The scene takes a beat here, a short one but it’s clear, so the audience can acknowledge this info. Why would the camera focus on the characters’ reactions if the soulmates line was a just a random little nugget of info? People hellers will write whole distractions on the significance of “parallels” between characters and “interpret” scenes using head-canons as support, but they can’t don’t want to understand that the camera lingering on the brothers when they learn information about themselves is significant? Also, it suggests in the script that Ash looks away from them to give them a minute to process this info. Why would he care if it didn’t pertain to them? (Hellers. Have. No. Media. Literacy.). Sam and Dean are soulmates. It’s canon.

Also, this is another episode but it adds confirmation. In 15x20, Dean feels Sam on the bridge in the new heaven before he sees or hears him. Thus. Soulmates!

•You, a new member of the choir(or just, of their school) is immediately welcomed with open arms! The more the merrier. The girls are all over you, asking about your home life, interests, if you have any siblings, hobbies, if you’ll sing for them- so on so forth.

•Noel is decently outgoing, and literally known as the most romantic boy in town. And he’s openly gay so there’s that. He chimes in with the girls, tries getting to know you, Noel is probably the best at hiding his true intentions- and his obsession for you. So if anything- he’ll turn into your close friend in no time.

•Obviously Ricky is more of a,,, delusional type. Wouldn’t be surprised if he had a thing for you even before you showed up at their choir, or their school(saw you around town, mostly likely). But he’s a bit more reserved than Noel, or the girls. It’ll take awhile for you to start talking to him, but he’s VERY clingy- like, wants to hang around you at all times and asks you to come over after practice type clingy.

•And uh. Mischa. He’s not approachable whatsoever.:DDD At first. Anyway he’s more just. Anxious, if anything, doesn’t know how to talk to the new guy is all. But he gets attached quick. Just talk to him like a normal damn person and he’ll open up pretty fast. Now you got scary guard dog privileges! Yayyyyyy

•He’s also. Just protective overall- and very delusional. Already thinks your fucking soulmates after a few conversations. The girls catch on to what the guys are doing- they wanna get close to you. Take you. They know the guys presented as yanderes already, everyone had to know that at their school for safety reasons- the girls are probably yandere’s too. But either already have an obsession or just. Don’t care about that kinda thing.

•Either way it’s a lotta confusion on how tf a darling got into the choir but the teacher was prolly drunk when looking over papers so who fuckin cares

•The girls try and keep them away from you. Frequently. Constance and Ocean drag you off to get snacks or drinks before practice but coincidentally take a wrong turn and whoops! Missed practice! So sorryyyyy,, Penny/Jane probably stays after class with you. Gives the guys a fucking death stare when they make a single step closer to you. The vibe is just overall “Fuck off unless you want something broken.”

•This clearly pisses them off. Mischa seems like to type to try and flirt and fail pretty badly but it’s charming either way- Noel is just. Very suggestive. And asks to stay after class with you to look over some notes, ‘tutoring’, or something. Ricky leaves love letters in your locker- unsigned, but heavily creepy and stalker-ish. So that’s somethin’

•I think this whole thing just completely depends on who snaps first- Mischa is an overprotective, Noel is an obsessive, and Ricky is a delusional type. And all of that kinda classes if the traits are given to separate people. It’s just a matter of time till someone says or does the wrong thing and you’re snatched away! Just like that.

-Zeke was pretty hesistant to give you up as his caretaker, as he was extremely dependent and clingy with you, but calmed down when Ludwig told him that you were going to be Kiera's personal Servant

-She definitely accidentally called you mom multiple times

-He still is very clingy with you but less dependent, he'll call for you whenever you're not by Kiera's side

-Zeke always used to call you mom when he was younger, now he just does it in private

-Ludwig was curious, his eldest child started seeing him considerably less than she did in the past, but is always seen with you and hanging out at random places, it doesn't help how Zeke was also heavily dependent and clingy with you in the past

-So, as any reasonable person would do, he started calling for you more to stay by his side whenever he had paperwork to do or was taking a break in his office, trying to converse with you and become acquaintances

-The children noticed, Zeke was curious while Kiera was scared, why did he call for you? Is he planning on firing you? What if he took you away from her?

Jungwon was your best friend in the group, the boy you connected to since day1, because everything about him matched so well with yours, it was as if you were meant to find eachother and become close friends one day. Being with him was the easiest and most fun for you, in the sense that you never could view him romantically or he didn’t do crazy things to your heart. Jungwon was calm, passionate and mature and made you laugh so hard that you were convinced he was your platonic soulmate.

If anything, heeseung appreciated your interaction with jungwon. He was delighted to see that you were getting along so well with his family. When heeseung reads the folded note, initially his afraid heart thinks you left the note for jungwon since he was the one you went home with almost everyday and you didn’t leave a name. But overcome by his intuition, he grabs an umbrella from the bin as it was raining and makes his way outside to you. With the hope of settling his feelings with you once and for all tonight.

“Hey! Were you waiting for a long time?” Heeseung asks in his gentle tone, the melodious voice making your head turn automatically at his direction.

Damn. He looked so unbelievably handsome tonight. In his black denim and slim, skinny fit jeans revealing his tall and toned legs. You gulp hard, soaking in the image before you continue.

“Ah no. Don’t worry. Let’s go, shall we?”

With the umbrella propped on top of your heads and your shoulders touching eachother and you take shelter together under the rain, you begin walking towards your house, feeling the tension and love radiating in the empty silence.

After walking a long distance and reaching a secluded area, hee clears his throat before he looks in your direction.

“Y/n. I’m sorry to have come in jungwon’s place. I know you were expecting him and I just-“

“Huh? What are you saying heeseung?” You look at him with wide eyes and a shy smile forms at the corner of your lips.

“It was you I wrote the note for. Cause..I wanted to spend time with..you.”

Your confession immediately causes his eyes to light up and his sentiments to blurt out. Cause no way in hell was he letting this golden opportunity slip by.

“Me too..you know. I always want to spend my time with you. I wait all day, just hoping to have a moment with you y/n.”

“….”

“Why?”

“Well. At first I thought I liked the idea of you. I liked being surrounded by you. But the more I spent my days with you..I realized I was inexplicably drawn to you in a way I couldn’t have anticipated before.”

Heeseung fully turns towards you and from the look he gives you next, you knew the words that are to come next, are the words you’ve been dying to hear ever since.

“I love you y/n. I fell in love with you from the first moment I saw you without realising it. I fell in love with you more when we were together. And..”

“I fell in love with you much deeper when we were apart.”

The words struck you like lightning, electrocuting every inch of your body and sending shivers down your spine. He was so honest and the look in his eyes was so tender and genuine, you couldn’t stop the goosebumps from arising on your skin.

“I love you..too heeseung.”

“You make me the happiest girl on earth.”

“And do you want me to show you how happy you make me feel?” Hee proposes, raising his eyebrows in a shy yet teasing manner.

The moment he feels your consensual nod, you’re overcome by way too many surreal feelings at once. In a second, feeling the umbrella being tossed aside, the cold splatter of rain on your skin, the pull of your body closer to his chest, the feel of his arms wrapped around your waist in a secure embrace and the plunging feeling of those lips glued to yours yet another time.

You part your lips slightly to give him access and when you do, you tremble from the hot sensation of his lips. Tucking his tongue inside your mouth, you get paralysed by his addicting taste, the sensation causing you to wrap your hands around his neck and pull him closer to intensify the desperate kiss. A kiss that was sloppy from desperation and need, but romantic and gentle from the love you both nurtured inside your heart for eachother. He brings his hand to cup your cheek and breaks away from your lips to stare inside your soul, and with a muted I love you he fumbles honestly, he’s back to dominating your heart, body, mind and soul with his intoxicating scent and honey-like sweet mouth once again.

you reach his dorm instead of your house, half an hour later. Both of you are drenched from kissing and making out in the rain, and it’s difficult to look at eachother when you’re THIS flushed.

“Let me get you a towel..baby.” He whispers the last word as silently as a whisper, and before you can react you feel a smiley hee exit the living room to get you something to dry off.

Heeseung returns with a towel and his hoodie, and when you’re dressed in his oversized garment as he returns from the bathroom with new clothes on, he takes your hands inside his gently and gestures you to take a seat on the couch. Like the loving gentleman he is, hee lovingly dries your hair with the towel while smiling admiringly at your beauty, the act causing you to chuckle shyly in turn.

When he’s done making sure you’re dry enough and comfortable, he throws the towel aside and pulls you on his lap. Brushing your thighs lightly with his feathery fingertips, he kisses your forehead before he confesses again.

“I’m glad to be the luckiest man on this earth to own your heart.”, he takes your one hand in between his, and pecks the back of it.

“You had it all along hee. You just realized it now.”

You playfully reply, brushing your nose with his in the process to earn a delightful chuckle from him.

Looking inside his deep, dark brown eyes again, you get sucked into his universe again, and from mad awe, you caress his jaw slightly from admiration. He was indeed an art. An art meant to be touched and appreciated.

“When everyone finds out about us. It’s not going to be easy y/n. It’s going to be really hard. And we’re going to have to work in this everyday, but I want that because I want you. I want all of you, us, forever, you and me.” Heeseung gasps in a reassuring way, driving away any fear that may surface in your mind, and smiles at you in a way that’s enough to calm the unpleasant storms inside you.

He leans his face closer to yours now, and you close your eyes waiting for him. But..1…2….3

“WELL BUT Y/N YOU WILL STILL LOVE ME MORE THAN HYUNG RIGHT?” Jungwon yells at you both, causing you both to jump from surprise and avert your eyes to the cute intruder who was teasingly pouting infront of the living room door.

“YAAH! Jungwon!! WHY DO YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO WITNESS OUR KISSING SCENES?” Heeseung displeasingly complains, clearly agitated at having his romantic scene ruined.

“But you will, right y/n?” Jungwon ignores his hyung to look at you.

“Ofcourse! It’s always best friend over boyfriend won.” You wink at him, a mischievous remark to tease your “boyfriend” Heeseung.

“Hey!!! What the hell?????”

“Just kidding!” You burst out laughing, now looking at the ticked off yet adorable expression of the cutie infront of you.

“I’ll leave you now. Bye bye, best friend who loves me the most.” Wonie waves, teasingly emphasising on the last part before going to his room and shutting the door behind him.

After he leaves and you’re back in your own world again, you see a pair of bambi eyes stare at you like a puppy and sore lips pouting at you in disbelief.

“You might want to make it up for what you did just now.”

“Ofcourse, I will.” You chuckle, pulling him by his neck and joining your mouth with his again. The sound of rain as your background, the beating of your hearts as your melody, and the feel of his body pressed to yours like you were always meant to be.

Indeed. The best love is the kind that awakens the soul; that makes us reach for more. That plants a fire in our hearts that can never be extinguished and brings peace to our restless minds.

Buckle up Ronance (and general spicy six) fans i wrote this when i was super tired but we got a Superman AU laid out right in front of us ft:

Robin Buckley as the clumsy and rambling reporter starting her new job at the Daily Planet, using her wits, language skills and eager curiosity to scope out a fresh take on Metropolis' pristine coat of futurism hiding its own dark underbelly of corruption and political warfare; not to mention the fact that she is the Superwoman (i usually prefer finding alternatives to using "man" or "woman" in the superhero genre but I can't really think of an alternate to something as basic as Superman so here we are), capable of flight, lazer vision and rescuing pretty woman without so much as a stutter

Nancy Wheeler as the Planet's greatest reporter, her determination and scrutiny all she needs to crack any story wide open, making her quite the target for the rich and famous but she doesn't appreciate this rookie coming in to steal her front-page headline spot; now Superwoman, on the other hand, is the most intriguing person she's ever wanted to investigate right on Metropolis soil

Nancy visits Gotham on occasion to meet her ex-partner and current good friend, Steve "Stevie" Harrington, to catch up during any of his various charity balls or just to give Mike an excuse to hang with Dustin (Steve's first ward, followed by Max, with Lucas and Erica dropping by often enough people don't really think too hard about it)

She does have her suspicions about The Bat running around the shadows of Gotham with Steve's tendency for concussion-inducing accidents but the idea of Steve of all people as a vigilante just feels too far fetched even for her

Of course, Robin does eventually meet Stevie during a story she's chasing on The Bat but the guy is just so airheaded and shameless that she doesn't want to even bother trying to get statement out of him. When she meets The Bat as Superwoman however, they hit it off so well that Robin thinks she may have found a best friend for life. When they eventually reveal their identities, she has to take a minute to reconcile that her platonic soulmate is Stevie Harrington of all people

Jonathan is Nancy's photographer a la Jimmy Olsen, and the dude is just so exhausted all the time from Nancy's running around but he's done a better job keeping up with her than her old partner Fred Benson so Chief insists that they stick together. After Robin showed up, he figured things would be easier with someone else to help wrangle Nancy but Robin just encourages the chaos with her own ambitious methods so he ends up bonding with Stevie of all people over Nancy's head-first running into danger, thank god for Superwoman's timing on that

I also think it'd be funny if Argyle was just a random pizza guy from Gotham who got caught up in a major crime syndicate's grasp and he just...ends up staying at the Harrington Manor after that and nobody in the family even questions it and now he mans the Batcomputer under codename Oracle ("Dustin, you can't just keep giving everything a codename" - "Fucking watch me")

Anyways back to Ronance, Nancy falling in love with the snarky and witty Superwoman that always comes when Nancy needs her and Robin panicking because she's realised that she's head over heels for Wheeler and can't do a single thing about it meanwhile Steve teases her about the Wheeler Effect:

"The what?"

"The Wheeler Effect: I used to be in love with Nancy, she and Jonathan used to date, hell even Dustin crushed on her at some point -"

"STEVE YOU PROMISED NOT TO TELL ANYONE -"

I guess Eddie could be The Freak (like the Creeper from the animated series, but less Joker venom and more clothes) in a Catwoman role? Giving Steve a run for his money (sometimes literally) while secretly mentoring the Robins, much to the Bat's annoyance

okay last thing i will say on the subject for tonight (maybe) but i think what most viewers -- and most readers, in all honesty -- fail to understand is that it 1986 is abnormal. it is a weird book. it is not a traditional horror novel with a traditional horror setup and, while of course it IS horrifying in every way a book can be horrifying, that is not its main focus. it 1986 was never meant to revolve around gore or blood or death. it was meant to revolve around the losers club. the protagonists of the novel are what made it so impactful when it was initially published and they are what continue to make it so impactful today. pennywise, as a villain, is only important as it relates to the losers club (and btw it will be referred to here on out as pennywise, despite that not being its actual name, for clarity). because the actual book cannot survive without those central characters, it just can't. it 1986 is about seven people who are extraordinarily, supernaturally, surreally deranged about each other and in love with each other who have their lives irrevocably altered by a trauma they faced together, although separately. but does it really matter, because aren't the characters themselves both one person and not??

to understand king's original intention with the novel is to understand the losers and it 2017 massively, undeniably fails to do so. in an effort to create relatability, and to scare larger audiences, it 2017 (which for this post's purposes encompasses the entire remake franchise) totally disregards the bond and dynamic between the losers club. really, it disregards any element of magic at all. richie and bill get into a physical altercation in which punches are pulled, bill has to force the losers to hunt pennywise with him, mike drugs bill, mike lies to the losers, etc. the list goes on and on. it 2017 wants desperately to be a drama, and therefore its protagonists must face internal conflict. but none of this could EVER have been present in king's novel. the magical ties and promises that bind the losers are such that they not only care about each other but ARE each other at times. they can read each other's minds, bev thinks at one point. they -- and i know this is a sensitive subject for many but it's worth mentioning -- quite literally have a platonic orgy to solidify their bonds with one another. they are strange. the relationship between these characters depends entirely on forces outside of their own control. to suggest that they could fight like schoolchildren, per it 2017, goes against the very fabric of it 1986. these characters cannot fight like kids. they are, of course, barely even kids (and still completely kids). it's confusing. that's the point.

fine, then. we aren't allowed a weird dynamic with the remakes. where does that leave us with each individual protagonist, then? well, quite frankly, nowhere. the losers are completely intertwined, and erasing their relationship does absolutely nothing beneficial to the characters' personalities. the decision to loosen the bond between the characters -- to make them seem more like casual friends than soulmates -- comes at a detriment to every single character. and i mean every single one (yes, also bev). this goes back to what i was saying earlier about how, oftentimes, the losers seem to be one functioning body. what is bill if not the leader of this group? where is richie if not fitted into the overall group ecosystem? nothing and nowhere, apparently. the losers become childish mockeries of who they were meant to be. for example: stan's entire personality in the remakes is "jewish." that is quite literally his entire thing. so now we have a movie with shitty characters based off a book that is ostensibly known for its characters. already, we are off to a terrible start.

but it doesn't stop there! see, the problem is, pennywise depends on the characters just as the characters depend on their relationship just as their relationship depends on its magic (see the pickle we've gotten into?). the bone-chilling, spine-tingling terror of book pennywise is that it's always one step ahead. it knows your fears, sure, but it also knows what you love. it knows your hopes and dreams. it knows what you do in your free time and it knows how you interact with your friends and it knows all your inside jokes. and sometimes it shows up just to play! sometimes it's barely even menacing. sometimes it is just there because it can be, because each loser's relationship with pennywise is its own kind of individual horror, and pennywise wants them to know that. here is where the fear originates: you cannot run from it because it knows you and sometimes maybe it is you. you cannot escape something that has lived inside of you all along. and that sounds cliche, and quite possibly one of THE simplest horror metaphors to nail, but here is where it 2017 truly screws the pooch. without fleshed-out characters, it is impossible to do pennywise any of the justice it deserves. suddenly, it has no point of access to the losers, because they have no personalities to target. pennywise loses everything that made it terrifying in the first place, because it cannot exist without the losers. instead it relies on a mouthful of sharp teeth and a silly dance that will hopefully scare the audience. pennywise, after some slightly personalized meddling (and i mean SLIGHTLY. a painting?) to freak the kids out, attacks every loser in almost exactly the same way. that defeats the point of the story.

the audience does not leave a screening of it 2017 with any lingering feelings of dread or despair or i-should-leave-the-lights-on-tonight. the audience leaves with a classic slasher satisfaction and the knowledge that pennywise is really good at Eating You, if it so chooses. but there's none of the personal panic that there should be upon consumption of any version of stephen king's it -- there's no vague, half-formed thought that maybe it is waiting for YOU. not just anyone, but YOU. pennywise has been entirely impersonal and random for the entire movie. why should you be afraid?? it doesn't know YOU. it can't. and so the remakes fail. of course they do! they were fucked from the moment the losers' slates were wiped almost entirely clean.

but hey, i'm sure they tried their best?

Okay, I have something for the "Red String of Fate" prompt. Fucking hell. Here goes:

"Gold String of Fate"

Most witches have a single red string of fate, connected to their hearts. It's supposed to lead them to their true love, the person they're meant to be with. It's not always visible, only when you pay really close attention are you able to see it. It doesn't lead you directly to your person, sometimes it just pulls you gently in the right direction; helping you a little but also letting you figure it out on your own.

Some witches, with hearts meant to love more than one, would have multiple red strings that connected them to different partners in different ways. Witches like Lilith Clawthorne had no red string, for they felt complete and secure without one, they felt no need for a romantic soulmate, instead filling their life with platonic ones.

Willow and Amity, they were different. They were a special case.

The string on Amity's heart was purple.

The string on Willow's heart was gold.

When the two were kids and they were still friends, they would look at their strings and wonder why theirs were different from the pictures and the stories. They felt a kinship with each other, a comfort that, at the very least, they weren't the only odd ones around. Even if they didn't know the answer to this mystery, they were in this together.

They looked in books and crystal balls, searching for answers. Apparently, centuries ago, there had once been a witch whose heart string had been black, but the information on her was scarce. Almost as if someone had tried to erase her from history.

They asked their parents and teachers, but they had no information. Amity's parents made her promise she would only marry a powerful, successful witch that could help them with the family business.

Amity's parents also made her leave her only real friend.

Now abandoned, alone and bullied by her classmates, Willow looked at her string and wondered if there truly was someone out there meant for her. If there was someone out there who would fall in love with Half A Witch.

Years passed and Luz the human arrived at the Boiling Isles, quickly discovering a purple string that only she could see. Eda had explained it to her and she had been incredibly excited to learn that she was predestined to fall in love with a witch.

At first, the pull of the string wasn't really obvious. They were both too distracted to notice it. But Luz always felt an inexplicable need to follow Amity around whenever she saw her, she felt that she had to go wherever she went. Around the time of Grom, Amity started to feel the pull as well.

And the string kept pulling and pulling until they finally realized where it was leading them. Towards each other.

Now Amity knew why her heart string was a different color! Her soulmate was a human!

Which led Willow to wonder, was that why her heart string was a different color, too? Was her soulmate also a non-witch? Her true love was another species?

What were they? Another human? A demon? Willow thought, she wouldn't mind falling in love with a demon as long as they weren't too grotesque. Or maybe one day Luz would show her around the human world and intoduce her to a human friend who would be her match.

Or maybe her soulmate was another creature entirely.

Meanwhile, on the palace, Hunter had grown to ignore the gold string pulling at his heart. The Golden Guard was not meant to be concerned with silly things like romance or relationships! He was too worried about helping his uncle, making him proud, fulfilling the big plans the Titan had for him.

His uncle said that love was a weakness! That his heart was only supposed to devote itself fully to the coven and nothing else. When Hunter had asked, at the tender age of 5, how his parents had fallen in love, let's just say that Belos had not been eager to give him a clear answer.

So, Hunter concluded, it didn't matter if he had a string or what color it was. He had more important things to worry about.

And it wasn't like anyone would be soulbound to someone like him.

"After all, it'll be 52 weeks till Caleb's next day off,"

The Emerald Entrails walked away. Gus looked back, confused, unsure of what to make of him. The other 3 didn't look back at all. Hunter watched them leave, his cheeks slightly flushed, but he didn't know why.

He felt a strange pull, a small, subtle thing that could easily be dismissed. But it was telling him to follow them. He stared, feeling the need to go after them... To go after her? But, at the end, he stayed.

Because he didn't know what that feeling meant yet.

When he saw her again ... or rather, he thought he saw her again, they were in the corridors of Hexside. He was wearing his old uniform, dirty and torn. He hadn't showered in days and his hair was terrible. And damn it.

He forgot how beautiful she was in real life.

He felt his cheeks go red, but he also felt off. He expected something to pull at him, to guide him closer to her. He expected that pulling feeling but it never came.

Somehow, he knew in his heart right off the bat, that wasn't her. She was a fake.

And he was right.

"I was with Gus the whole time! There was a sandwich... he showed me this breathing thing... please you gotta believe me!"

The breathing exercise. The breathing exercise her parents had taught her when she was a kid and that she had in turn taught Gus.

There was no way Hunter could be lying about that. How else would he know? He had to be telling the truth.

She had never been sure whether or not to trust this odd boy that had literally flown into her life. Whenever she thought she had him figured out, he showed another new detail that confused her even more. She had no idea what to make of him.

But, in that moment, she felt something pulling at her. Just a little bit. A feeling in her heart told her to trust him. To believe in him. And she decided to trust that feeling.

"I'm gonna have to borrow that book when you're done with it."

As she left, closing the door behind her, Hunter felt a pull coming from his heart again. He had been feeling it for months. He knew what it meant now.

She was his soulmate.

The golden string. Oh, what an ironic color fate had chosen for him.

The golden string was pulling him towards Willow.

He had taken a while to figure it out but now he understood. And the Grimwalker was overjoyed, for he could not have asked for a better soulmate.

He wondered if she felt the pull towards him, too, but he wouldn't dare talk to her about it. He didn't want to put more on her plate, what with having to build a portal and missing her parents. Hunter knew it wasn't the right time to talk to her about this.

And a part of him was also scared if she would be unhappy to be soulbound to a Grimwalker.

"Or Grimwalkers?"

"POSSESSION?!"

"GRIMWALKERS?!"

Willow wasn't exactly sure what a Grimwalker was. She remembered reading about them at school long ago. They weren't humans, they weren't witches either. But a third, secret thing.

Hunter was a Grimwalker? He wasn't a witch?

That made so much sense. That explained so much.

"Hey, Hunter? Can we talk? In private?"

The C.A.T.'s hideout was bigger now that it was located on the old Clawthorne home. It had room for a lot more members, which was nice and comfortable. Or at least it would be if they weren't hiding from The Collector. There were lots of empty rooms that allowed for privacy.

"What's up, Captain?" Hunter asked, sitting down on the bed.

"This is completely out of nowhere and I know the timing is super off but I'd rather talk about it now than get killed in battle tomorrow and never get to talk about it."

The boy's smile faded. His Captain only made that tone of voice when it was something truly serious.

"What's wrong?"

"You know the red string of fate?"

"Of course, everyone knows about those."

"I have one, obviously... but mine is a little weird..."

Hunter's ears perked up. If she wanted to talk about the red string of fate... had she figured out they were soulmates? Did she feel the pull, too? Was she happy or disappointed?

"What do you mean?"

"My heart string is not red, like a normal heart string, it's gold," she explained "and I never understood why, but lately I've been feeling the pull and, when I found out you were a Grimwalker, that's when I knew where it was leading me..."

Here goes.

"It was leading to you. Hunter, I think you're my soulmate," she finished, peridot eyes shining with fresh tears, smile brighter than the moonlight coming from the window.

"Yes, and how does that make you feel?"

Willow stopped crying and smiling. She looked bewildered.

"Why aren't you more surprised? I'd figure you'd be shocked... did you already know?"

Hunter nodded. "I've been feeling the pull, too. I felt it the night after we first met. I've been feeling it all this time."

"What?! You knew we were soulmates?! You've known for months?! You didn't say anything?!"

"I'm sorry," he said, softly. Genuinely remorseful. "I just... I wasn't sure how you were gonna react."

"You weren't sure how I was going to react?!" She repeated "Hunter, I'm obviously thrilled to be your soulmate. You have no idea, how overjoyed I am that it's you."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah, dummy!" She laughed "you're brave and you're funny and you're kind and you're passionate. You're somehow the smartest and dumbest witch I know at the same time. You're a great friend and you'll surely be an amazing soulmate."

Hunter laughed, relief filling his lungs as the weight fell from his shoulders. He stood up and hugged Willow as strongly as he could. She hugged him back. He was so lucky, he had the most wonderful witch ever as his soulmate, and she was equally happy to have him.

"I love you," he said, sure that there would never be a better opportunity to say it.

"I love you, too."

The kiss that followed felt like shivers and dragonflies in both their stomachs. Like warmth on their cheeks and somehow both calm and fear at the same time. The pull from their heart strings ceased, the string didn't need to keep pulling anymore. They'd finally found each other.

omg becca i can promise you that i'll make it my personal mission to get you into 911 asfdkdld 😌 so, here's why you should absolutely binge 911, coming from a completely unbiased, objective perspective, of course 😌😌

an amazing ensemble cast with really, really talented actors

a group of characters who slowly come together to find their family in each other and they love each other so so much. also the very first episode starts off with the hilariously ironic line—"this is not a family." to really hammer in the famous last words of it all :) now let's get into the characters.

howard "chimney" han — amazing paramedic, manages to be the funniest character on the show while having deep-rooted abandonment issues and trauma, is probably immortal because he has survived things that should have killed any other person

bobby nash — Dad™. the daddest of all dads. best redemption arc ever; has a beautiful journey of realizing that he wants to live. he was born to be a husband and a father :) amateur detective. looks like the sensible one, but he can be just as dumb as the rest. he loves his wife <33

hen wilson — probably the smartest character on the show, and knows everything about everything. she's married to a rocket scientist :)) she is an incredible firefigher paramedic, best friends with chimney (they're platonic soulmates fr) and she looks like she holds the braincell but she will join in on the shenanigans with the rest of the characters in a heartbeat (see: season 6 where she went dumpster diving with chimney to look for a lost ring).

evan buckley — the little brother of the group. he's an ass in the beginning but he gets better i promise. himbo with a heart of gold, he loves kids. he uses recklessness as a means of coping with his deep-rooted childhood trauma. nearly dies every single season. he looks at bobby as a surrogate father. he loves his sister so much. he's in love with his best friend but shhh he's still figuring that out. he loves his best friend's child like his own :)

maddie buckley — give her a break™ she's been through SO much, but came out kind and compassionate and stronger than ever. she's a 911 dispatcher and she's amazing at it. she loves her little brother and basically raised him when they were kids. she's an amazing mom, even if it takes her a while to accept that, and she loves chimney han with all her heart.

athena grant — angela basset does an amazing job with her character; she has some of the best emotional and action moments on the show. she's a cop, unfortunately :( she's best friends with hen, she's a great mom to her two kids and has a really compelling friendship with her ex-husband. she is definitely the one who holds the braincell while everyone else gets up to their dumb shenanigans.

eddie diaz — the love of my life he's an ex-army medic, now a firefighter and above all, a father. he loves his son, christopher, so much. he has also nearly died on multiple occasions, and in season 5, has one of the most beautiful arcs i've ever seen working through his trauma. he had an extremely complex relationship with his wife, shannon. he's come so far in terms of character development. and he's deeply in love with his best friend but by god he will not admit it :)

and as for the other reasons why you should binge the show? the emergencies are absolutely insane and entertainingly unrealistic (there was a tsunami in los angeles). the show knows how to intermix comedy and tragedy in a way that will give you whiplash and have you sobbing. it deals with some very adult, realistic conflicts. it loves to emphasize on the innate goodness of human nature. none of the characters are perfect and have all fucked up badly at some point, but they keep trying. it's a show about second chances :)

OH and since you asked about buddie, well. if you like: a) co-workers who started off disliking each other falling into a deep friendship b) two characters who are partners in every sense of the word, who practically share the same mind c) a ship that has multiple break-up scenes without even getting together d) two characters who are practically co-parenting a child but can't see it e) two characters who go absolutely berserk when the other is in danger f) two characters who act more married than most married couples — then buddie is the ship for you! and honestly, if you like chenford, then you will definitely like buddie sjdkdkd there's a reason i've done at least 4-5 gifsets paralleling them

anyway, this is my official pitch! if you ever actually decide to watch the show, my humble request is that you let me know what you think afterwards 😌

Hi~ I binge-read orv webtoon today and I have just finished. I came to Tumblr to know more about the fandom and I realised that people ship Dokja with Joonghyuk. I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting that. I thought their "flirty"(? interactions were just some sort of fan service or silly jokes. Is there anything in the novel that implies a relationship between them? Or maybe something that I missed in the webtoon? (I struggle with picking up social cues, especially romantic cues)

To preface this: yes, most of the heavier joongdok content comes until later in the novel, but there ARE some highlights in the webtoon as well so far.

I think most of the appeal of early joongdok interactions in the webtoon comes from the enemies to lovers vibe they have going on. Picture KDJ hyperfixating on his single favorite character for 10+ years, through every up and down of his life. In his narration during their FIRST meeting he explicitly says:

I liked you, hated you, resented you, and cheered for you. I was with you throughout your three-thousand episode journey. (webtoon ch. 12)

AND THEN. He finds out his favorite blorbo comes to life and proceeds to annoy him until he starts choking him over a bridge with a sunset backdrop like something out of a romance drama. It's all about the tension and subversion of expectations 🤌

Their relationship is very much a slowburn. YJH very reasonably distrusts KDJ at first (due to some past trauma) but we do see him gradually start to warm up to KDJ as the story progresses.

One of the main highlights is during ch. ~100 in the Disaster of Floods scenario. When KDJ sacrifices himself for YJH, he proceeds to freak out, tries to save him even when he knows it's futile, and refuses to kill him for coins even when YJH is often largely pragmatic in his interactions with others. We're told that YJH pretty much never uses the word "companion" because it holds too much meaning for him and he's never acknowledged KDJ as such, even though KDJ insists they're "life and death companions" (which is already pretty damn poetic if not romantic imo). But when Shin Yoosung asks who KDJ is to him, YJH says:

"That guy. He is my companion." (ch. 102)

(This got translated as "a companion of mine" in the webtoon but the novel is where it's at.) And keep in mind this is also an actual quote from the novel btw:

The weight of this word, 'companion', was too great for Yoo Joonghyuk. (ch. 12)

However, as I mentioned, their relationship only really starts to develop until later in the novel. To be clear, there's no explicit romance in orv–which I personally really appreciate because it opens up the floor instead to flesh out all the platonic relationships all of the characters have with one another that are JUST as deep and profound.

But even so, joongdok is very much canon to me. I don't want to give too much away because I'd be spoiling the rest of the novel for you, but they really are cosmic soulmates meant for one another in a way that is so narratively profound and completely goes full circle. The lengths they go to for one another are actually insane and there's no doubt in my mind the love and devotion they feel for one another is real and simultaneously indescribable by mere labels.

I really hope you're planning on continuing to read the novel now that you finished the webtoon! I truly cannot recommend it enough. It is literally and unironically the single greatest piece of literature I've ever read and the journey is 100% worth it. Plus, the webtoon will take a long time to complete at the current rate so the only way to find out what happens next is by reading the novel 😉

Anyway, I hope this was somewhat helpful to you! I think it's really admirable that you're trying to search for a different interpretation from your own. There's a saying in orv by one of the characters: "Read it again", and the intention there is that by rereading (or looking at things again in a new light) you will always find new meaning even within the exact same text, as long as you're willing to look for it. So the fact that you're asking this question is very much in the spirit of orv itself <3

And this goes without saying but you're also completely free to interpret them in your own way as well!

01) What’s the lie your character says most often?

She has an extreme tendency to hide her physical impulses, specifically the ones that are derisive towards other people. I write in third-person limited, so the narrative takes place in her head, and every other paragraph she's thinking about how she wants to roll her eyes or smirk or yell or make a rude comment, but she almost always suppresses it.

Her specialty as a Counter Intel agent is building large networks of informants and turning the agents of other groups to Arasaka's side, so she has to know how to convince people to like and trust her.

That's one of the skills she starts to lose as Johnny's personality sinks more and more into her psyche, and it drives her crazy because she really valued that skill.

18) Who do they love truly, 100% unconditionally (if anyone)?

I don't know about "unconditionally" because she'd say that love should be conditional. If an emotion doesn't have a basis in reason, it should ideally be dismissed. But, of course, in practice it's often not that simple.

Anyway... regarding people she loves...

The most obvious choice is Goro. She didn't really date in her early or mid 20s. She's married to her job. Even with Goro, it's a slow burn. She thinks of him as a soulmate in a platonic way before she thinks of him as one in a romantic way. The foundation of their relationship is mutual respect and a strong sense of kinship. She can see that he has the same respect for order and authority that she does, but more importantly she can see his appreciation for their kind of lifestyle, and that's what really attracts her to him. She cannot abide a reluctant corpo, and really doesn't understand why they don't just leave. At the same time, Goro respects order just a little more than she does and is just a little more reluctant than she is, which can create problems for them. (In other words, she's Lawful Evil and he's Lawful Neutral). She's very fond of Jackie. She thinks he's really intelligent and that despite all his moralizing, he often thinks in a much more profit-orientated way than he'd ever admit. Although he often disagrees with her, she dismisses his anti-Arasaka sentiment as silly and naive. She can get pretty patronizing about it, actually (although normally not out loud). But ultimately, even if she probably wouldn't use the word "love" to describe how she feels about him, she would risk her life and even her career for him in a not totally self-serving kinda way. Her zeal for the concept of Saburo Arasaka is more akin to religion than love. She thinks he pretty much single-handedly changed the course of modern history and shaped the world as she knows it. You have to understand, V loves the world she finds herself in. She doesn't care if she has to eat pepperoni made of locusts as long as she also has cyberware-enhanced super powers. So when I say she thinks he shaped the world, I mean that she's grateful. Of course, if there's anyone who can disappoint you in a more devastating way than a parent, it's a god. 41) What phrases, pronunciations, or mannerisms did they pick up from someone / somewhere else? In terms of phrases and pronunciations, my V definitely speaks pretty differently from the canon V. She uses a lot less slang and shorthand, and she's also a lot more formal in her cadence and vocabulary. She definitely would've picked that up primarily from her corpo parents and then from her classmates at Arasaka Academy and finally from her coworkers at Arasaka. As I mentioned for question 1, her mannerisms are generally carefully controlled, and they mostly show up when she is just having such a strong emotion that she can't possibly hold them back. And I mentioned that she picked up the habit of controlling them in this way because of her specialization in Counter Intel. I actually don't think she'd be too affected by the people she hangs out with in that sense. Like even though Jackie has a different style of speaking from her, I don't think she'd copy it from him too much. So that means the main person who could change her mannerisms and speaking style would be Johnny and that's only because he is literally seeping into her brain.

The way I've described Johnny and V's merging before is that he calms down because of her influence but rather than her coolness and control, it brings out his empathy and kindness, whereas she gets more passionate because of his influence but rather than his rebellion and sense of justice, that brings out her anger and judgement. So they each kinda take something from each other and twist it into their own variant, but it overall makes him better and her worse. So I could definitely imagine that affecting her mannerisms and speaking style. Mostly just in the sense of making it harder for her to hide what she's really thinking. But I haven't had the time to write too much of that yet, so I couldn't go into super deep detail at this time.

But one thing I can tell you is that post-Mikoshi android V is like original V's renaissance era. As a robot, she has more control over herself than she ever did as a human even before Johnny happened to her. But that heightened sense of bloodlust that she gained when she was merging with Johnny... it doesn't really decrease. She just has the ability to conceal her true thoughts again.

Out of all the relationships this one is the most demanding and pure

I mean not to spoil but Naomi is literally taken to the Entity’s realm and Denali is taken there simply because her need to find her friend is so strong!!!!

Like she doesn’t care that she’s being killed every single day

She’s just happy that she’s found her friend that went missing

And loves her friend so much that she’s willing to be permakilled to get her back home

The least toxic out of the romantic relationships

And by least toxic I don’t think they’re toxic at all

Like even if there’s a little angst (there’s gonna be a little angst btw) they’re a strong couple

Actually makes each other better rather than making each other worse.

They love each other for who they are including all of their flaws and they would be number one if Denali and Naomi didn’t have a relationship that goes above and beyond.

Like 80 years from now the two will be old and grey and still acting as if they’re in the honeymoon phase

3) Eden x Eleventh Doctor (The Garden of Eden)

From an unpublished Doctor who fanfiction that I am in the process of writing

Here is where we’re getting into the ohhhh this relationship is kinda toxic really

And it’s a shame they’re number THREE on the list lmao what does that say about my writing?

They are constantly arguing (90 percent not in a serious way)

And Eden sort of sees the Doctor as a God due to how they met which puts him on a pedestal

BUT the relationship doesn’t start off romantic which I think is healthy for them

And they are both fiercely protective of one another due to how long she’s spent traveling with him

So while she does see him as a God it isn’t in a very obvious or serious way unless you can see inside of her head as she doesn’t treat him as such at all.

Also a very goofy relationship overall

4) Grace x Seth Clearwater (unnamed fic)

It’s an unwritten and unnamed Twilight Fic that I might post when I’m done with the whole thing lmao

The only reason they’re number four is that I think that him imprinting on her is taking away his choice

Like yes they would probably still end up together regardless of if he had the ability to imprint or not because they’re soulmates

But him having the trait does take away the ability to actually choose

Like it’s literally a one look and that’s it thing. It forces you to live someone platonically or not so he doesn’t have a say in the matter

BUT the two do genuinely love each other so so so much that after their angst is done they’re inseparable

Which again sorta toxic when it’s a codependent relationship but they actually RARELY argue

Seth is actually so sweet that again after the angst is done they might have an argument once every like 5 years.

5)Quinn x Spencer Reid (Baby Blue)

From my Criminal minds fic that is currently posted on ao3 that I am debating on posting here.

Actually they argue so often

If he hadn’t have gotten her pregnant in a one night stand they would have still met and would have a love hate relationship

Like without the baby they would be an enemies to lovers trip but instead he immediately and accidentally got her pregnant so now they’re stuck with each other

Do genuinely love each other and after they finally figure out that they have feelings for each other everything calms down

But with her being pregnant and them not being in a relationship and then the jealousy and miscommunication everything is just toxic

Like could they tell each other that they accidentally fell in love with the other and they wanna try to have a relationship?

Yes.

Will they?

No.

But again after the drama they’re actually a very affectionate couple that manages to keep their passion into their old age

6) Ashanti x Cárter Walsh-Kim (unnamed fic)

From my deleted twilight fic

While he isn’t a main main character he serves to be the Jacob of the plot but they actually dare and he doesn’t force himself on her or fall in love with her future child :)

They’re a healthy college age couple?

Kinda boring but not toxic at all until Emmett enters the mix

They’re stable and comfortable and honestly would be endgame if it wasn’t for Emmett

She loved him and he loved her not much else to say. They’re low because they break up lmao

7) Ashanti x Emmett Cullen (unnamed fic)

From the same deleted fic as above I might rewrite and repost

toxic because they can’t figure out if they wanna be together or not

Like actually they have a really good relationship when they’re not arguing and he’s being a wannabe Edward with his angst

Like when they’re not fighting a great comedic duo

And he’s her biggest supporter and she’s his.

And while I know I just compared him to Edward they don’t have the whole turn me I don’t wanna turn you drama like it’s a very easy discussion and decision

He’s literally just hung up on Rosalie and that’s where the drama comes from

And the arguing kinda makes some of his old human traits reappear

8) Fawn x Johnny Slaughter (Accidental Prey)

A Texas chainsaw massacre fanfiction that isn’t finished

Would be lower because he’s actually a murder and is keeping her hostage????????????

Like he’s forcing her to live with his murderous cannibalistic family

And he kinda abusive

But he’s genuinely in love with her (more like obsessed)

And hes the only reason that she’s alive

I can’t spoil the end but dude LOVES her more than Johnny in my other fanfics loves their partner more than just being possessive and obsessive

But the reason why it isn’t is because Corinne is no longer stuck with him

He physically, verbally, and emotionally abused her

Forced her to kill their child because the police were close to catching them and a child would slow them down

Constantly cheated on her with victims after he kidnapped her and forced her to live with him and his family

He doesn’t really love her (he thinks he does) he really just sees her as a possession.

13) Peter Parker x Reader (the Beauty of You)

A marvel fanfic that I deleted that is a You AU so Peter is in the role of Joe lmao

While he isn’t abusive he is VERY manipulative which is mentally abusive

Has murdered people to get to Reader

Has threatened to kill them

They’re lower than Corinne because Reader is stuck with him like until they die

Isolates them from literally everyone and uses his powers to keep them isolated and needing him

This is fully just a rant about some prevalent fandom ideas about love and relationships that I have lost patience with. I have put it under a cut, wholly untagged and unrebloggable, so if you clicked it and don't like it...you clicked it. Also this does have fairly vague and oblique spoilers, but still spoilers, for CR episode 3x34.

I will say: I find that the fanon depiction of Imogen and Laudna includes pretty much this whole list (vs other ships that have bits and pieces in the fanon but not the entirety thereof), which is why I absolutely cannot engage with it even as I enjoy many aspects of the canon. I will leave it at that.

Lifespan angst. I think it can be explored well in-game (Keyleth, notably, prior to getting together with Vax, as a woman in her early 20s with the knowledge that she is likely to live nearly two millennia) but I am just left ice-cold by out-of-story lifespan angst. People outlive their partners by decades in real life. It is a reality. It is not angst, it is simply a thing that happens to many, many couples.

And relatedly, the idea that life ends when someone you love dies: I spoke about this already re: Orym and have nothing further to add.

The whole love means never having to say you're sorry/no conflict thing; you do not want to be having screaming fights every day obviously but if you are two separate people with separate personalities there will be disagreements. In a healthy relationship, those disagreements are respectful; but they are still disagreements and there may be apologies involved. Also, sometimes people just get on each others' nerves and that does not mean they don't love each other.

The whole idea that love means understanding a person fully with no need for communication. It does not, and this is one of those things people use to claim their ship is justified because the characters Get Each Other even when the opposite is true, since it by default implies that characters who communicate more are less connected, and means that any single misunderstanding is fatal to a relationship.

The us-against-the-world mentality in which no one else understands in the same way. This one is like...I enjoy a depiction of a toxic relationship in media from time to time - usually not in actual play, but like, I have been known to watch HBO dramas, and also Gossip Girl (2007). But like, in general? This doesn't really have any staying power. It's so isolating and boring to have two characters with no connections to anyone but themselves. It's Tallahassee by The Mountain Goats. It works for a movie or a television season but it wears thin within like 3 episodes of a show like CR. There is a reason the Briarwoods are NPCs and not viewpoint characters, is all I'm saying, and also why they both die like 7 times each.

(The above is also prevalent in bad fanon of platonic relationships; people are so weird about the Mighty Nein parting ways and having their own lives and other connections, even though they are still close friends. Like, a lot of people seem to think found family means you threw the rest of your family out.)

Honestly I think I just hate the concept of there being One Single Soulmate Of All Time which is sort of the secret guiding thread behind most of these anyway. It's dumb and I hate it, which isn't really eloquent but like, what more is there to say. The idea that there is only one person in the world who can ever make you happy sounds grim and horrible to me, and yet it seems to be the driving force underlying so many ships in this fandom, and probably other fandoms, and idk I'm just too old and too pragmatic and have touched too much grass to find this anything but nauseating and stupid.

Hi~ Why do you love Merlin?

(also Merlin fan, just a brainrot opportunity hehe)

Now THIS is a big question. I hope you asked it knowing that I'd answer it with a small essay lol.

I suppose my answer to this has changed over the years. When I first watched the show when I was 14, I fell in love with the lighthearted and wholesome vibes the show had. I loved stories with magic where one character had too much on their shoulders and where I could watch them carry their burdens and achieve the impossible. I was intrigued by stories where one character in some way shape or form, is forced to be alone. It's a common theme across all my favorite stories from How to Train Your Dragon to Doctor Who to, now, Good Omens.

I also fell in love with the bromance, the costumes, the music, the legend they were weaving right in front of my eyes.

And while I still love all those aspects of Merlin, looking back on it now, I suppose none of those are the reason I kept rewatching the show.

I think I've watched Merlin all the way through about 8 times now. And now that many years have passed, I see what had me so hooked. I think it was the exploration of friendship between Merlin and Arthur.

When I first watched Merlin, I didn't have much in the way of properly good friends. So it was a comfort to me to watch this story where two people met, they didn't even like each other, but they grew to be the most important person in each other's lives and it had nothing to do with romance. (Which is not to erase the experiences of people who ship them in canon, I totally get it, I ship them in fanfic, but within the bounds of the show I see them as a platonic soulmate situation.) But the bond between Merlin and Arthur was always so steady, even when they weren't getting along.

Merlin always went back for Arthur and Arthur always went back for Merlin. And I admired this as someone who, when I missed an event I was supposed to be at, the next week someone would tell me they missed me and I knew they didn't mean it. "Missing me" was used to tell me that they noticed I was gone, not that they felt my absence. Like, there's a difference, ya know?

And so I think this is the story that taught me what I prioritize and value in my friendships. I value protecting each other and preserving each other in peace and joy. I value going back for them. I notice when they go out of their way for me, even with small things, so that I can be more comfortable. I notice and appreciate when they listen to me, when they refuse to judge me, when they reach out first.

In college I met some amazing friends who have went out of their way for me during times where my life was falling apart, and I'm so grateful that life brought me these people. And I look back at Merlin, at episodes like The Poisoned Chalice and A Servant of Two Masters, and I see my teenage self and the kind of friendship I wish I had, and would some day find, and that I hope to keep finding as I go about life and keep meeting new people.

Of course there's discussion to be had about whether or not Merlin went to far. If he should have maybe cared less about Arthur because then maybe he would have saved himself and Camelot. Maybe Merlin's dedication to Arthur wasn't healthy because of all he lost because of it. But I don't care about that. Merlin loved his friend and he acted like it every single day and that was something I wanted to be for other people, that was what I wanted to see in my life.

On a slightly smaller but still significant note, every time I watch Merlin, the more I love Arthur. I feel like the first two times I watched the show I was a Merlin girl, I didn't care much for Arthur, and then I started to notice just how big this boy's heart is and I realized that Arthur IS the heart of the show. I love him more every time I think about him. And sometimes I rewatch certain episodes just to see him again.

I feel like I've rambled on and I have no idea if I've made any sense but I tried lol. Thank you for giving me a reason to talk about it. Merlin is one of those stories I'll think about and love forever. And every time I rewatch it I learn something new about myself, so I'm sure it'll continue to be a story that has great meaning and impact on my life. (And of course, the fandom is immortal, so I'll always have fanfic to read and people to talk about it with too!)

My bias is sunghoon but reading ootdg made me 😭 for jungwon (I don’t even read jw smut and won’t ever!!) Really enhanced the sort of initial endearing way I felt towards him and made me crave this kind of relationship existing irl (even tho toxic) because while I do have “friends”, we don’t care for each other much like OC and jungwon and it gets really lonely :’)

as for reader turning jungwon:

it wouldn't be for a long while, though i believe jungwon would hassle her to do it. humans can be pretty ignorant and i mean, i'd jump for the opportunity to be a vampire too ngl LMFAO anyway

sunghoon would allow her to turn jungwon by the point it would actually happen. mostly because jungwon is quite consistent in her life even as a vampire and I believe he'd prove to hoonie that there's nothing sexual between them regarding love. after all, wonie was the one who had to share her with sunghoon first, and what did sunghoon do? he fuckin' killed her and took her forever. it's only fair that sunghoon wouldn't keep her from her best friend if said friend is a willing participant in the vamprie life. additionally, wonie would probably stake sunghoon in the heart if he ever tried to keep the two of you separated.

not super realistic, but wonie and reader are truly platonic soulmates, he wouldn't ever dream of letting her go and reader wouldn't dream of letting him die of old age or in any other way that could be more gruesome.

and yes. though sunghoon very much would have been fine with reader killing jungwon at her first feeding, he really does love her to the extent that he knew it would hurt her if he allowed it to keep going.

he was very well aware that she was acting on instinct and unaware of what she was doing for the most part. he was absolutely prepared to stop reader before she ended up killing jungwon, and that's why he was somewhat impressed when she did it on her own!
