So he and the baby just kind of sat there staring at each other. "What do you wanna do?" He asked the baby, knowing they can't talk. The baby proceeded to poke Kenma's cheek and yell out, "DA DA DA DA." Kenma thought it was cute and laughed softly. "Yep, that's me." The baby repeated saying 'da' for awhile until they tired themselves out. "You're a lot like me." That day it clicked, he finally understood what it was to be a father

He wasn't very affectionate but he tried to show his baby that he cared the best way he knew how

You saw the changes and it made you happy

here’s a bit of a story I was working on involving Father Gabriel and Valentine! (Sol is also there too but he’s not really mentioned oops. He’s off doing something else I guess)

its a discarded first draft that I still like a lot even though it doesn’t work in this particular scene because it gives really good insight into Gabriel’s inner thoughts and also his Catholic guilt. It’s also UNEDITED in any way so sorry if there’s typos and the dialogue and stuff is oddly placed! (btw will anyone believe me if I said that this was the first draft for a smut fic I was writing yes or no?? I scrapped this draft because it was far too serious and angsty for the situation I wanted. Valentine is ready to fuck nasty and have a nice time and treat their boyfriend meanwhile Gabriel is struggling with Catholic guilt and paranoia. The vibe was off for him and I felt bad trying to get him into a sex scene when that man should be having a therapy session instead. Father Gabriel closed the front door behind him. “I can’t believe that happened,” he said more to himself than to the cheeky demon who caused the scene, who was hanging their sparkly red blazer on the coat rack next to him. “What if people saw? He was sure they found the idea of being tied up by little old ladies quite funny judging from their expression.  It was meant to be reassuring but the idea of other church members burning his partner at the stake wasn’t exactly pleasant.

Burning you at the stake would be the least of your worries if the wrong people get their claws on you.” He pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. “It’s not only your safety too. I also have a reputation to uphold, as horrible as it is sometimes. I’m a priest. I’m not supposed to get flustered over someone at communion. The people see me as a symbol of devotion and modesty, and I fear what might happen if they see me as anything other than that. I’m supposed to be committed to God alone, not blushing over my handsome friend from out of town.” He was so worried. Valentine seemed so confident to show off but he feared what would happen if they reveal too much. Gabriel knew what happened to demons in churches they weren’t welcomed in. He’d seen it happen with his own eyes, was forced to read the books on how to do it himself, and he knew that powerful people with hatred in their hearts for even an inkling of difference would never stop until they get what they want. 

“Darling, look at me.” Valentine stood in front of him and gently took his hand in theirs. “It’s going to be alright. I promise you that no one saw my little display to you, and as far as I saw no one seemed to say anything about your blush today. I mean, if you ask me, it was quite warm in church today, and you were quite lively in today’s sermon.  I wouldn’t see anything unusual about how the priest was a bit more red than usual after that rousing sermon he gave. And I feel most people know how warm it can be in your cassock with all those layers.” They assured him. Gabriel wasn’t fully convinced, but their words did help. He stared down at his hand and watched Valentine gently stroke the back of his hand with a thumb. Such a small gesture, yet it still sent a shiver through his body at the touch. They didn’t want him to worry, he knew that. It was just hard sometimes to let these things go. He was always under scrutiny, always being perceived and his actions always judged by someone. If not by  God then by the townspeople who looked up to him. At least that’s what he felt. Maybe it wasn’t true. Maybe there wasn’t actually anyone who cared about these things besides him. He was just so worried all of the time lately. Maybe since he was a child. First about being good, following all the rules and being a faithful servant to the church. Then he worried about being sinful. Always ashamed of the way his heart beat against his chest when he saw Brother Marcus in the vestry, of the way he laid awake so many nights consumed with thoughts of him and Marcus doing terrible, lustful things. Now he was worried for Valentine and their safety. Of them being found out and torn away from the safety of his protection and killed. Soleil had to disguise themself as well, but for Valentine their disguise was a matter of life or death. Sol would be worshiped and adored if the townspeople knew what they were. But Valentine would be hunted down and killed before Gabriel’s feet if they were ever found out. 

Gabriel  was also worried about his reputation as a perfect chaste little servant of god. Someone pure, someone who was completely devoted to their god and had no room in their heart for any sinful thoughts of other people. The people saw him as one of them. No, better than them. They put him on a pedestal. They listened to his words and came to him for guidance, and he overheard how they spoke of him. With reverence, a deep respect. As if he was truly holy. But Gabriel knew he wasn’t. He was impure, tainted, guilty. His god did not answer his prayers and he knew he was dishonest to the townspeople when he pretended to be that man everyone saw him as.

He yearned for respite from the terror and guilt that plagued him for most of his life. He just wanted to let them all go. 

He let out a sigh, trying to let go of his worries with it. “You’re probably right. No one came up to me about anything today after the service so I suppose no one saw anything unusual.” He focused his attention on his hand being gently held in Valentine’s. He took another deep breath and forced the worries out of him along with it. In.  It will be okay. Out. No one saw what happened today. In. We’re safe.

Out of curiosity, how does Archie feel about superheroes? Partially as a vigilante (like, does he think their portrayal in media is realistic to the superpowered crimefighting experience) and partially as a fan (is the genre super cool)

Also, does he take inspiration from any of them? You've mentioned that he banters with his enemies while fighting and smiles at the people he saves, which is very reminiscent of Spider-Man to me (one of my very very favorites) so I'm wondering if he does that on purpose or if he's just a sweetheart who wants to dissolve the tension for the people in danger and it leads to him acting like that

so i want to start by saying that archie is like. well he's kind of meant to replace spiderman and/or daredevil in this universe. its hard to explain. like i'd like to think he lives in a universe where no other well-known comic book superheros actually exist and they are all fictional in his universe.

if that makes sense.

i feel like im getting really into the meta here but to put it simply, archie's story takes place in new york (which means archie has a new york accent btw). he's like an alternative universe spider-man/daredevil combo (if you look at his powers specifically) so those characters no longer exist but every other comic book character exists as fictional characters. especially dc because the cities in dc are mostly made up.

SO back to the question at hand.

i think archie sees their portrayal in comics as a bit dramatic. like batman is always brooding in his little cave and archie is like "yeah right." i feel like he's amused at when superheros get injured in comics because hes like "that guy would NOT be doing those flips after breaking three ribs and getting a severe concussion. i'd know."

BUT he does enjoy the comics anyways. he thinks they're very entertaining and hes just a Nerd so he looks past all the inaccuracies for a good story!

i feel like the character he identifies the most with is nightwing (my beloved) because hes a vigilante working on a small scale and he likes how silly he is. he looks to him for the most inspiration because he loves how down to earth he is with civilians. he also related to having his World Rocked at a very young age

and as for who my (author) inspirations for him were, it's a combonation of 3 main ones that i've already mentioned but i'm going to briefly explain why/how:

peter parker/spider man - this one is kind of obvious. archie is this sunny, quippy, young guy from new york who goes around at night beating up bad guys and buying hotdogs from the hotdog vendors.

matt murdock/daredevil - i took this man more for the concept of having an accident happen to you as a kid and gaining enhanced abilities from it. obviously archie is not blind, but he does have heightened senses and operates in kind of the same location and on the same small scale as daredevil!

dick grayson/nightwing - tbh i included him because i love him and i modeled archie's sass on him. he's different from peter parker becasue he's older and so is archie, but the similarities also come in their humor and quips! the vigil suit is also vaguely inspired by nightwing's suit

all three - all of these guys have a (sort of strict) No Killing Rule and i'd like to think archie does. he'd never killed anyone, ony beat them up quite badly, and he wants to keep it that way

omg i LOVEDDDD orv i read it on my phone in the summer of 2023 when i had nothing else to do and it was genuinely so so good like the novel is PEAK i never read the webcomic version because i’m attached to the translations in the novel even though they’re not “official” but genuinely the novel is probably one of if not THE best things i’ve ever read like it actually changed my brain chemistry fr (it’s a long build but the ending arc is peak fiction)

Well...sure! Here's an angsty snippet from the next chapter of my WIP, The real deal. I was actually hoping to get the chapter out this week, but I've been kind of swamped with other stuff, so I guess any readers hoping for an update may appreciate this.

[Context: Henry has just joined the Society. Walter is not happy about it.]

Walter has to stop there to quell the desperation that has not so much crept as it has rushed into his voice. He screws his eyes shut and hugs himself for comfort, trying to make it look like he’s just crossing his arms in frustration. The true meaning of the gesture isn’t lost on Henry, who soon reaches out to put his hand on Walter’s upper arm. “Hey. Are you okay?” Walter opens his mouth to say yes. What comes out is, “No. I’m really not.” Henry rubs Walter’s arm through the sleeve and hesitates a little before asking, “Would you like a hug?” “I’m not…in a hugging kind of place right now.”

💛 What is the most impactful lesson you’ve learned about writing?

Man, this is a tough one! There's always more to learn, and also so many things I have "learned" but not really taken to heart (such as "use a placeholder when you get stuck" haha).

I'd say maybe 'think of your readers as people, not numbers'. The writing itself has to be for me, because the worth of the story or my worth as a writer should not be determined by what anyone else makes of my writing. But I still think it's okay to acknowledge that I wouldn't be posting the stories anywhere if I didn't want to connect with people through them. The important part is not to think about it in terms of hits or even the number of kudos or comments, because that just leads to all kinds of self-doubt if the fic/chapter doesn't reach that many people (I am a niche writer in a small fandom, after all). I find it much more useful and joyful to think about it in terms of the actual human beings on the other side of the screen who have taken an interest in the story and let me share it with them.

🌻 How often do you read your own fics?

I write what I want to read, so I do reread my fics every now and then. Some more than others, but a couple of months ago I actually reread one that I had not revisited in ages, and I'm glad I did because it was better than I remembered.

Sometimes I reread for no particular reason, other times after a nice comment on an older fic. Or when I need to check something - just the other day, I went to check a minor detail in my magnum opus for my WIP (which is a prequel), and I ended up rereading the last five chapters... Oops.

(Sadly, rereading does often reveal typos or other little errors and fixing those does take me out of the story a bit, but I still enjoy it!)

I just had an au idea heavily inspired by Shamat and Riiju-lei….

Im half awake and on my phone btw pardon any typos or if it’s incoherent

Yknow Nerevarine becomes Nerevar and it’s the 4th era and all that. Except Nerevar and Voryn last left off on a really bad note. Voryn was already super corrupted by the heart but Nerevar thought he was at least semi-lucid. And Voryn had pretty harshly told Nerevar he hates him and never wants to see him again. That he’ll kill Nerevar himself to finally be free of him. And post killing dagoth ur this still fucks Nerevar up

He’s not evil Nerevar he just has. Bad ptsd from everything along w insomnia and psychosis (I have psychosis and I like writing characters with it) and he’s convinced that while he was madly in love w Voryn and tried to use that love to convince him out of the fight in the heart chamber… Voryn never really loved him. They were only friends for convenience on Voryn’s end and Voryn probably began to hate and resent him early on in the friendship but had to stay close bc Nerevar was king and could pose a threat if he let his real feelings show so he’d rather act like he enjoyed Nerevar’s company and subtly manipulated him just to survive

So when he finds Voryn’s reincarnation injured and low it’s… it gives him many mixed feelings. He’s happy to see Voryn’s face again, and also believes Voryn wouldn’t want Nerevar anywhere near him reincarnation or not. He feels guilty enjoying his reincarnation’s smile and laughter and sweet voice. But he tells himself over and over that it’s just for his sake, he would send the reincarnation somewhere else if he could but Nerevar is the best person to protect him at the moment. It’s just temporary and he’ll let the reincarnation now somewhere outside of Morrowind where he’ll actually be safe. He kept his distance enough that it’s not a super painful goodbye on the reincarnation’s heart, but he does wonder why he feels so cold and empty leaving. Nerevar wishes him good luck and sets him off to Skyrim

Where dragonborn shenanigans happen and alduin is slain. And then the gang goes to Solstheim where cult shit (outside miraak’s) happens and oops. Dagoth ur and Voryn Dagoth are both trying to get in that body. It’s a chaotic mess. Most of the cultists are dealt with but Neloth calls in Nerevar

And Nerevar. Well. He’s not happy to hear it at all but he comes running and does know the solution. He and Divayth were working on making sure dagoth ur never returns—Azura prophecized his reincarnation after all, and Nerevar interpreted in the most dire way possible assuming she meant dagoth ur and not Voryn. (To Nerevar of course she wouldn’t bother just telling him about Voryn coming back because it’s not like it concerns him. Voryn would want nothing to do with him, and hated him arguably more than the tribunal did. So she must be warning dagoth ur would be coming back)

The mask ritual is what they came up with to banish dagoth ur. But divayth warns him since he hypothesizes Voryn’s soul is completely bound to dagoth ur, a reincarnation choosing to banish dagoth ur will banish Voryn’s personality, memories, etc with it. He’ll truly never see Voryn again and won’t even have the chance to talk to him abt what happened and apologize. Nerevar says that’s definitely for the best, because as much as he wants it he doesn’t want to hurt Voryn either.

He would have done it on the reincarnation at the temple to be safe but his reincarnation seemed so sweet and lovely, he couldn’t bear the thought. The ritual is likely going to be painful and miserable and he didn’t do anything to deserve it, he didn’t choose to be Voryn’s reincarnation.

But he assures team dragonborn this is their best bet and if they encourage him he’ll be able to fight it off. He doesn’t tell them about his close relationship with Voryn or even that any bits of Voryn in him will also be banished because he doesn’t. Really think it’s relevant their friend is suffering trying to fight it off himself. And he’s in a bad way fluctuating rapidly from classic dagoth ur insults, screaming, confused screaming, and begging for Nerevar to help him—team dragonborn initially confused on who Nerevar is.

And the ritual is a success! Only it didn’t banish Voryn but instead made all of it surface in his mind and he’s out cold processing it for several days. It all seems to have worked though and he can’t sense dagoth ur’s influence on him in the slightest. Makes sure to get him all set up with healers. Though he still tries to keep his distance despite team dragonborn being like “hhhhhey db seemed to know you and kept calling for you to help what was that” and Nerevar laughs it off that he knew the man dagoth ur used to be as they were political allies for a time and basically coworkers AND he helped the reincarnation when he was injured one time so it probably all bled together. Hey he and divayth are going to be the only two ppl alive now who know there’s more to it than that his reincarnation doesn’t need to know how much bad blood there really was between them more than absolutely necessary. He’ll probably already be upset about dagoth ur and everything he doesn’t need to feel guilty about what Voryn said (and Nerevar does believe Voryn was probably in the right on that one). He does spill though that Voryn’s personality and memories will be gone AFTER the ritual is finished, but he tries to do that to reassure them that almost everything should be back to normal and they can forget this all every happened really

But uhhhhh yeah. Dragonborn wakes up with Voryn’s memories crying and demanding to go to morrowind to speak with Nerevar. Team dragonborn reassured him that Nerevar is already here on Solsthiem bc neloth called for him to help with the whole tribunal cult and weird possession shit. Lucien probably is like “he said he and your previous incarnation—well before dagoth ur—was your coworker of sorts. But that not to worry, your won’t remember anything from that man either!”

And the dragonborn has to deadpan “a little late for that. I remember everything” or smth along those lines. Just feeling absolutely awful for what he said to Nerevar before Nerevar was forced to kill him. And then gets told “he said you were political allies and coworkers” and has to go “COWORKERS?! WE WERE CLOSR FRIENDS FOR CENTURIES. THE CLOSEST OF FRIENDS. I TOLD HIM ALMOST EVERYTHING WHAT DO YOU MEAN COWORKERS?!?!” Before it dawns on him that ohhhhhh god neht actually thought this ritual would banish all of Voryn’s memories too and he’d never remember Nerevar again. But was willing to give that up to truly free him from dagoth ur’s influence like he couldn’t do so long ago. He’d rather lose his closest friend and the man he loved for a THIRD time than risk Voryn losing himself again.

Okay so I'll make a quick tutorial and I hope it's easy to understand ksjsk. It's very image heavy and I apologize for any typos. We'll be making this:

So I start by taking the screencaps with Potplayer. Just open your video (preferably 1080p x264). The shortcut to take your screencaps is Ctrl + G, it'll open this window:

(those are my configurations, it's in portuguese but it's easy to understand)

I usually create a folder in Documents for each gif. Also remember to start capturing a little earlier because it takes a few seconds to start, same thing when you finish.

Now it's time to open it on photoshop! Make sure you have your timeline set up, if it's not showing up go to Window > Timeline. Now go to File > Scripts > Load File into Stacks

When this window opens, just choose your folder and click okay after it loads (might take a while if there's too many files)

So when it opens, you'll click on the 'Create Frame Animation' option in the timeline

It'll create a single layer, so go to the little button at the side and click on make frames from layers

they'll show up backwards, so go back and choose reverse frames

Now you're all set. It's time to delete what you don't want. Since tumblr accepts up to 10mb, I usually keep it between 60 frames. Really it depends on the scene and the dimensions you're gonna make your gif. (for example, if after your coloring, the background of your gif is completely black, you can go up to 175 frames, even if you make a 540x gif, i did that once lol)

So when you have your scene ready, select all frames and set your frame delay to 0,05.

Then, with all your frames still selected, convert them to video timeline

Go to your frames, select all of them and convert them to smart object

So after that, you can crop your image! Check the tumblr dimensions here. When making big gifs I like to use 540x400, 500 or 600. Just what I think it'll fit best. For 2 per row, I usually use 268x180 or 268x200. For this gif I used 540x400 and cropped it, I always try to crop the borders so there's no risk of the gif having that weird white border around it.

Then go to Image > Image Size on top of the screen

Set to the dimensions you used when cropping, so for me it was 540 x 400:

I use bicubic smoother to resample but honestly i don't really know the difference kdjsk

Now let's sharpen it! I usually use this one for big gifs (comes with a better tutorial than this kdjsk) but it's got a lot of steps to it that i like to do it myself, so i just use to sharpen it. And if you're following this tutorial, we already did all the steps on the action, so just click on the Smart Sharpen.

I also recommend this action for when you're making 268px gifs (two per row). I love this action too. Btw if you're just downloading your actions, you have to load them on those 3 little lines:

So for coloring! I use a base for most of my gifs and I edit them from there. Here's a great blog for coloring psds. If you want, I can make a separate tutorial on how I color my gifs, because it won't fit it all in 1 post.

Then I added my subtitles. Make sure the subtitle layer is on top of the coloring one so it doesn't look weird. Here's the settings I'm using for this one:

When you're done, you're gonna want to Save for Web. The shortcut is Ctrl + Shift + Alt + S. All at once. This window will open up:

This is how I like to save them. Don't forget to make sure your gif is set to forever and less than 10mb (you can check at the bottom of the screen, below your gif, mine is 5,5mb). And you're done!

Or not. I don't know why I have this problem, but after save it, my photoshop sets the frame delay back to 0,07, and that's too slow. So I open my gif again in File > Open. Or Ctrl + O.

Select all frames and set your frame delay to 0,05 again

Do not convert to video timeline. Just Save for Web again. And now you're really done.
