Plot: You’ve always been friends with Sam Winchester, but you’ve also loved him since before you could remember.

Y/N tosses her bag into the back seat of the Impala before she climbs in. On long road trips, the back seat of the Impala is her domain. While Sam and Dean share the front she’s all over the back. Her bag is there, she has a pillow and a blanket and she’s the keeper of the snacks.

“Pass the pretzels N/N?” Sam’s voice comes from the front as he stretches his hand out to the backseat where Y/N is seated, his hand ready for the mentioned treat. Her heart skips when she hears his voice and she finds it hard to breathe when his hand is practically touching her knee.

“Sure, here,” she replies shortly, slightly disappointed when his hand disappears after the pretzels are in hand.

Y/N has always been a friend of the Winchesters, closer to Sam than Dean although the older brother is close to her heart as well. Just not nearly as close as Sam. The gentile giant (as she calls him) was always the one to make her heart skip when his soft eyes met hers or when his deep voice made its way to her ears. She wouldn’t tell him how she felt though, she doesn’t want to ruin the relationship. She was fine being his best friend as long as it meant she could keep him in her life.

Sam knows how she feels. Of course, he knows how she feels. She isn’t at all good at keeping it a secret. He hadn’t said anything to her about it and once felt nothing for her as far as romance goes. When he left his dad and Dean and in turn Y/N, he had met Jessica and loved her. It wasn’t until Jessica died and Y/N was back in his life and always there for him that he realized what he was missing out on.

Even now munching on the pretzels he didn’t want to move his hand from her knee. He wished he could keep his hand on her knee, her thigh even. The only question was whether he should tell her he felt the same. If he should even feel what he feels.

He spots her in the rear mirror and when she sees him looking at her she smiles. He returns the smile and Dean looks at him from the side and he grins when he sees his brother smiling at the girl in the back seat. Sam catches Dean’s grin and shakes his head in bemusement as his smile stays on his face.

In that moment it was like three different conversations were going on. Y/N smiling because Sam looks at her and she likes him, followed by Sam agreeing and smiling back but Y/N does not know and Dean smiling because of how amusing he finds the entire situation. Once the Impala stops because Dean has to use the bathroom he silently tells Sam to talk to Y/N.

Sam sits in the front seat awkwardly. Now’s the time, he knows it. He gets out of the car after he spends a few moments silently arguing with himself on if he should go for it or not. This is followed by him getting out and sitting in the back seat with Y/N. She’s surprised when she looks at him next to her and asks, “Are you okay, Sam?”

“Yeah,” he sighs. “You?”

She nods, but her curious expression doesn’t leave her face. “Why are you back here?”

“We need to talk,” he says softly, looking away from her briefly as to check if Dean is coming out. He sees him in the window, the bastard is taking his time looking at the magazines likes they’re the most interesting novels in the world.

Y/N looks at him with curiosity and a little bit of apprehension. She asks in a voice she hopes sounds normal, “Is there something wrong?”

Sam quickly shakes his head, not wanting the girl to worry then says, “No, no. I just…I’m not sure how to put it.” It takes Sam a second to think of the words he is going to say and when he does they come out in a stuttery mess, “Y/N, I really think that—I know how you feel—now I don’t think there’s anything wrong with—”

Y/N goes on a limb. She knows he’s struggling with his words and she sees the signs. He’s quick with his speaking, stuttery, and not like himself at all. Going on that limb, she kisses him. She puts her hand on the back of his head and her lips press against his in a tender kiss that she hopes he’d reciprocate and that her limb is correct.

He does.

To her shock and disbelief, Sam moves closer to her and reciprocates that kiss.

Authors Note: Hello!! I hope you all like this :D I don't have very many ideas for writing, so this is a little bare. If you guys want, go ahead and send some requests in! I'd love some inspiration :) Also, this is only part one because I made this post too long and Tumblr wouldn't post it so.... 😅

Warnings: Mostly fluff, some angst and mild nsfw. Mentions of guns, wounds, etc.

If it was up to him alone, he’d never confess his love. There's really no way around it, he’s scared of what would happen—his heart racing and mind reeling at every single possibility that rested under the stars; every disaster, pain, and sorrow that could accompany his lover, and drape them in the suffering he's known all his life. He doesn't want that. He wants them to be happy, content, safe. So, for a long, long time, he doesn't tell you how he feels nor how he desires you in your entirety (he'd take even the smallest portion if you offered. A single dashing touch as you passed him by? He'd treat that memory like a holy text, reciting it over and over until his very soul memorized it. You smile at him? God, he's your most devoted follower now and he'd do anything you asked. Give him anything and he will cherish it with such delight and love).

Once he gets over his tendency to hide his love though (and, here, it isn’t him who confessed but you), his emotions would gush out without rhyme or reason—a storm so powerful it would sweep the planet in rains of adoration. It’s a difficult and strange love though. This comfort is so foreign to him, he will indulge in it with fever one day and recoil at the very same touch the next. Learning to love safely is a slow, terrifying process; but, oh, how he desires to give you everything you need (and how he secretly wants you to give him all your love as well, but he would never say that as that is a very selfish thought! Shame on him for thinking such things, right?).

His favorite form of intimacy is quiet mornings when he can wrap his arms around you and pretend the world doesn’t exist—that the only thing that matters in the entirety of the universe, reality even, is loving you unconditionally. Though, peaceful mornings like that are hard to come by. Mostly sleeping out in the desert, running at the slightest hint of danger, and a constant alertness on the back of his neck that tells him that one blink, and you will be gone. So, he settles for other forms of affection (though, cuddling will always be his favorite thing. Having you pressed up against his body, lungs falling in sync, and hearts intertwined just as your legs and arms are. . . oh, just thinking about it makes his entire body shiver with love and deep embarrassment). Hugs, while not cuddling, are another of his favorite things. He loves any kind of hug.

The quick hug before he runs off into danger? Thrilling and so full of adoration. If he doesn’t make it back, at least he’ll die with the lingering warmth of your touch—ah and there you are kicking him in the legs for thinking such a thought. “Of course I’ll come back,” he grins, “I have you waiting for me”. But a hug from you before you run off into danger? Bad, bad, bad. He’ll chase after you and tackle you before you can even get out the door. 

“I’m the one who’s supposed to be running off into danger!”

“Who said that?!”

“Me!”

“Then don’t say stuff like that!”

A hug from behind? He loves melting into you, like he’s meant to be a part of you. He loves feeling connected in any and every way. He’s so distracted by love that he realizes too late that he’s putting all his weight onto your back and you're slowly sinking to the ground and he panics, falling back and oh god, there he goes: apologizing and rambling. Tell him he’s okay. He’s scared of doing the wrong thing and driving you away. You’re the most wonderful, precious thing he’s ever had the pleasure of having—he never wants to lose you over some silly mistake on his part. You hugging him from behind? He’s dead. He freezes and looks over his shoulder to see you buried into his back (he’s a tall bastard, he knows this but it hits him differently when he sees you being so small)—oh god is this what love feels like? Will quite literally beg for you to do it again and hums happily if you comply. If you don’t, that’s okay too; he’ll just pout and hug you instead.

A long, comforting hug? He doesn’t like talking about those moments, when the pain swells up into his throat and the world claws at his heels. But, he still appreciates the all-encompassing embrace you’ll give him. An angel burying him within their bosom and bones, telling him that the world will settle, and he will rise again, just like the morning sun—and he loves that rising light, because it means another day spent with you. When you need comfort like that, when the world is too tall and you're buried under the weight of fate and existence, he’ll wrap around you like the tree roots of a great oak. Strong and unwavering, he’ll anchor himself in place for you until you're ready to move on, or ready to simply sleep. He finds that sleeping with you resolves many of his problems.

In private, he is like a puppy. This description is quite simple, yet nothing fits the man better. A constant people pleaser who found himself devoted entirely to one person. You’ll have to explain that yes, you love showering with him but sometimes you want to shower alone and no, that doesn’t mean you don’t love him. And there have been many times where you’ve had to force him into resting because he won’t stop.

1000 Follower Celebration!

I'm blown away, honestly. The last time I had any notoriety in a fandom was back in, like 2007 or 2008 when I was on the Dibbuns Against Bedtime fan forums for Redwall. I was made the head of my dorm as the site started dying because I was the most active member in said dorm.

But you all? You're here because you like something I'm making? It's so wild to me. I appreciate every single one of you. Every like, every reblog, every comment. They warm me up.

I've been thinking over the last few days what I want to do. The obvious answers—prompt fills, polls to determine what I write, story snippets—I do all that with too much regularity. And I'm trying to avoid taking on more fics as I focus on the ones I've already got going.

So we're gonna do something a bit different this week.

Over the next week (From Wed 2/21 to Wed 2/28) send me the title of one of my WIPs (listed below) and I will respond with a few paragraphs. Not my usual 1.2-1.6k that I like to do for WIP Wednesday, but a few paragraphs. At the end of the week, I'll compile them all and post everything in a single post.

I won't be adding all the links like I usually do with each addition to a story until I post that final draft, but I'll tag everything with "[story name] 1000" so you can click that and follow along with the fic in some sort of order.

There are six WIPs eligible for the game! Please limit yourself to one fic per ask, but you may send in multiple asks. Brief Story Summaries

Bring Me Home: Tim and Danny are online friends and know each other's secrets. Currently in the arc where the Young Justice and Team Phantom help Danny escape after a reveal gone wrong.

Ghost!Robin: Jason is haunted by the ghost of the Robin he used to be. Danny finds out when Jazz introduces him to Jason over a meet-the-in-laws dinner. Currently, Jason and Robin are meeting with Frostbite to learn what may have happened.

Answer My Call: Jazz is sending texts to Danny after he escaped a GIW facility and they can't talk. But it turns out Jason is the one who's actually been getting them.

Carry Your Heart: Jason and Danny meet in the Ghost Zone while Jason is dead. They become friends. But Jason runs to Desiree to wish for his life back. A wish she fulfills. Danny goes to visit him, only to find his core left behind in a lair that's in ruin.

Bad Reveal AU: Danny is living with the Waynes when he finds out they're also the Bats. He freaks out because he believes the bats are working with the government (aka the GIW). So he shoots Bruce and runs away. The bats are now trying to convince him it's safe to come home.

Empathy!Verse: Liminal!Jazz is studying in Gotham and feeling the lack of other liminals to interact with. After getting used to the undercurrent of emotion that follows all interactions with ghosts/liminals, humans just feel...flat. Then one day, she literally runs into another liminal as she's going to the library. Jason Todd. Only... he doesn't know what it means to be liminal. So Jazz is there to show him.

Alice Oseman. But that doesn't count. She rose from the tumblr grave and made herself known to the outside world. She was born here and here she will live. The outside get's to see what she accomplished, but we are her roots and the grovel that shaped her.

Thanks for the ask, @strrwbrrryjam ! i'm flattered that you think I do a good job of that, because I'm still learning! (and I also struggle heavily with proportions. I have to resize my heads and arms so, so much...)

I'm afraid I don't have any secrets. I think the answer is to just practice, over and over again. But specifically, this is what I try to focus on as I'm learning:

references

quick practices - 30 second to 5 minute studies that help with getting a full scope of the shape and energy of the body, not meant to be perfect

studies - deep dives into certain anatomical structures (videos linked below)

Below the cut is how I use references go from this to this:

References:

Use a bunch of references! Pictures you take, stock images, from shows--practice real people. Even if your style is heavily stylized, it all starts from an understanding of anatomy.

How I Use a Reference When I Struggle With Proportions:

The first step I take while looking at a reference is to just draw a very loose sketch with a line of action that goes then entire length of the piece, and I try to section it out. I find if I don't think about the body as a whole, and just start drawing a head, the head will be way bigger than the rest of the image. So my first step is just really boxy and basic, just to get all appendages on paper. My first pass could look like this:

Okay, not bad. But the right arm is going way too far down--the forearm is really long. The head is too big for the style I want, and the left arm is at a 90 degree angle, unlike the picture. But, I have the general scope of everything on the page, so it's easier to adjust and look at the full picture!

Then, I try to focus on landmarks. I look at where certain body parts fall in the reference. For instance, Blackbeard's right elbow doesn't reach his belt, so his elbow shouldn't be near his waist. I can tell that his left arm is closer to being straight than at a right angle, and I can see that his head isn't as big on his shoulders as I have. I can also look at the negative space and see that the gaps between his right arm need to be smaller. So my next pass might look like this:

(I don't usually draw on the reference image, and I just "draw" the lines in my mind, but the for sake of things...)

Now it's looking a bit closer!

The next is the harder part. It's making things shapes, and is closer to the lineart stage. I try to follow curves, separate the chest from the torso, get the angle of the shoulders and head, etc. I have some video links at the end that explain this step much more in def.

You may notice that the head angle is a bit different than the image, and the shoulders are a bit lower. Sometimes, following a reference image completely either doesn't fit your style or, in some cases, the more accurate drawing following a reference can actually look "wrong" (anatomically) when drawn. Figure out what works best for you, and for the message you're trying to get across in the piece!

And here is the final timelapse, with a little refining and polishing of the anatomy. Not everything is completely accurate to the reference image, but I've created a believable image in the likeness.

Redemption Through Service - Kugrash in The Unsleeping City

In their post (cited with their express permission at the bottom of this essay), Tumblr user midground says that Kugrash and Kingston's handshake at the end of season one can be read as New York City (embodied by Kingston Brown) thanking Kugrash for his service. I'd like to expound upon that in this essay, as it's a fascinating point.

In my previous essay on Robert Moses in The Unsleeping City, I stated that Kugrash is serving penance for his actions prior to the start of the series. Specifically, he fucked over a very powerful wizard and was transformed to show what his soul looked like - a rat, a very clever play on the idea of a "rat race". Since his transformation, he's been working to protect New York City and its dispossessed.

Not only is he working to protect the city from magical threats, but he also provides food, shelter, and magical care to the homeless and support for his fellow Heroes of New York (the latter of which we'll get to in a minute). Mechanically, Kugrash is a Circle of the Shepherd Druid, a subclass focused on protecting those who cannot protect themselves. Dimension20 has always excelled at making the mechanics of a character part of their personality or an idea that the character is meant to convey.

Not only does Kugrash care for the helpless, but he also cares for two other Heroes of New York. First, he cares for Sophia Lee multiple times, including their memorable first interaction. Some of the most touching moments in The Unsleeping City are shared between the two, including their tearful goodbye after Kugrash eats the Bagel of All Things. Second, he acts as proof to Pete that redemption is possible at a time when the young Vox Phantasma needs proof of that, including sticking up for Pete when the rest of the Heroes of New York were debating killing him, and Pete would later go on to advocate for Cody in season two in much the same way.

He then goes on to use a Greater Restoration to end a bloodline curse on Esther's family, which includes the woman he fucked over who turned him into a rat.

When offered a chance at the life he might have had by the American Dream, he tells the eldritch horror:

"I used to be a lot like you. You're a rat...I can't have what you're offering me, and that's my fault. But American Dreams change."

He rejects an offer to have his curse lifter because he thinks he hasn't earned it. He's resigned to spend the rest of his life in service as a penance, and that moment is followed by him making a pivotal choice - he eats the Bagel of All Things and sacrifices himself.

Finally, we get to Kugrash's final act. Not only does Kugrash shake Kingston's hand, the city thanking him for his service, but that handshake is him using his power to heal the city one last time since it's flavored as a 5th-level Cure Wounds. And then he disperses, foiling Robert Moses and earning the redemption he's sought for so long.

His legacy continues in season two, but that's a matter for another time.

you try not to laugh at her wishing her dad ill and just send her back to her desk, but the grin doesn't leave your face all day. thinking about the fact you made matty giddy makes you just as giddy as him.

the next day a bouquet of flowers show up at your door with a note,

🤍 Hi, Hayzie !! I don’t know why it always gets me so excited whenever I hear from you on here, but anyways, this is such a great question, and I’m flattered by your curiosity :( Here goes my long as frick answer for ya, lovey ~

GROWING UP ⊹ I was homeschooled, and hanging around the house all day led to me picking up a lot of random hobbies, one of which being freelance creative writing. I wrote so many original songs, short stories, and even poems during that time, and I'd say this sort of upbringing is what helped foster the strong love for literature and art I hold in my heart today ⊹

DISCOVERING TUMBLR ⊹ So this is where the story gets interesting. Imagine a 17 year old me introducing my former Kpop-fan sister turned anti to the wonderful era of 4th gen Kpop. She fell in love with the culture all over again, which led to us doing this thing where we would role-play as certain Kpop idols through texts and gifs 🥴...

• So one night as I was looking for a Heeseung gif to send her, I stumbled upon one that looked really high quality, and it so happened to be posted by this page on Tumblr. Though st the time, I had never heard about that app/website before. When I clicked the gif, it took me to this link , and all I remember seeing was a bunch of ~freaky deaky~ warnings, but I scrolled past them (out of curiosity) before actually reading the words, and that’s when I realized "Oh, this is a story about Heeseung that a fan wrote…"

• To this day, I never forgot that story, but like, back then, I didn't even know what "smut" meant 😭 so when the story started describing a sexual scene between Heeseung and the MC, I was honestly a bit uncomfortable to the point that I couldn't even bring myself to finish reading it, yet at the same time, I was so intrigued.

• I ended up telling my sister about Tumblr (after she begged to know where I kept finding those high quality gifs), before she eventually fall into a DEEP hole of K-pop fanfic, which later compelled me to read more fics myself. Our favorite blog back then was @kpophubb, because of how diverse and well written her content was, but I also discovered other blogs like @starrywonie and @hee-pster who really inspired me to wanna start a blog for myself where I'd upload all of my original work, but I was still nervous about it... that is, until my sister told me about her blog, four months after she had already created it that sneaky bitch ⊹

INTRODUCING CHLORINECAKE ⊹ The very next day after my sister told me about her secret blog, I had this surge of motivation to start my own page! Using a short story I found buried in one of my forgotten writing apps, I edited it over night, and got my pictures and title together. I'll admit that I was very nervous at first, as I didn't know what to expect from the people who’d read it, especially considering how it was my first ever original written work to be put online. Fortunately though, I instantly fell in love with the engagement, the environment of Tumblr, and the new people I was meeting along the way... and yeah, that's pretty much how I got here today ⊹

Wondering how you think of Jason's resurrection and Barbara's paralyzation working in a post-Gotham world? (Not specifically related to your AU sking you because you also seem really excited about these two worlds clashing!)

Because the way I see it, Hugo Strange was a well known factor and his resurrections don't appear to have any side effects. So why didn't Bruce try to get Jason resurrected, even if it meant working with an enemy?

Barbara's paralyzation pretty much happened exactly like Selina's did - so would Bruce not only be beating himself up, but also be able to approach Ivy for help? Or at least wouldn't Selina or Barbara Kean do it?

okay okay, jason's death and barbara's paralyzation.

jason first.

imo, if bruce ever comes face to face with hugo strange again, there won't even be words involved, that man is getting the beat down of his life. batman will MAKE IT so that that man stays in jail, if even only because he would be beat half to death again if he was let out.

hugo strange ordered the hit on bruce's parents, after all, and while bruce is opposed to murder, he is not, as we have seen, opposed to beating the stuffing out of someone repeatedly.

i also feel like that one girl who was introduced to the show really had more of an impact on bruce than is explored, because the show set them up almost like siblings. the girl, karen jennings i think? yeah, she was really close with thomas wayne before his death and he came to visit her often. he was involved in keeping her safe from the people at indian hollow (who moved there after pinewood was shut down).

karen suffered IMMENSELY under the hand of hugo strange, and during her short stay on the show, she and bruce got very close and developed what i personally see as an early sibling bond (and another example of bruce latching onto people and becoming emotionally involved way too quick, like, as a pattern).

anyway, hugo strange's mechanisms eventually end up getting karen brutally murdered right in front of bruce, so i feel like that could have a major effect on his mind, esp at that age and knowing what he does (or later did? my timeline there is fuzzy) about strange being involved in his parents' death.

because of his personal anger with him, deep-set mistrust of him (he likely heard about how he put a chip in ed's brain after penguin payed him to, essentially, revive him from the dead), and his respect for karen, he wouldn't ever get hugo involved, i believe.

as for barbara's paralyzation, i think that selina's side effects would play a huuuuge role here. in the show, when bruce gets the cure from ivy, she warns that it might have some side effects, and soon after, selina begins exhibiting animalistic and highly emotional traits, such as irrationality, extreme anger, low temper, excessive growling/hissing, etc.

it was during this time that bruce and selina's relationship was coming up on its time for both of them to decide what would happen next. after reunification, what would happen to both of them? would they still be a "they?"

even though both selina (deal with penguin) and bruce (helicopter, but also the interrupted dinner scene) want to leave gotham, either for good (selina) or for an extended period of time (bruce), neither of them are truly 100% involved in the discussion, which leads to communication issues, which is what eventually causes their breakup.

what i was more getting at bruce thinking here, however, i would say that bruce blames himself for getting her involved in the first place (as she literally did blame him, not that i can be mad at her), that she got shot because of him, and that he made the personal choice to force her to live on and feels responsible for taking the cure which gave her so many side effects (which she likes but he hates), bruce ultimately blames himself for their messy breakup and all of the pain that has caused.

which, of course, he hasn't processed at all, so instead he deflects it.

instead, he blames ivy and her weird eyeball-looking plant for taking away his best friend / girlfriend.

i definitely don't think that bruce would trust in ivy enough at this point in the timeline for her to be involved, but that i agree that (other than this) he (i fell asleep right here lol so im back now that it's morning) would totally do everything he possibly could to help barbara.

as for barbara kean---i'm going to be so real with you, i've been specifically not actually watching the series finale so i can stay on-track with bruce's line of thinking, so when i heard she got shot i honestly thought she died. i just checked last night and found out she got shot in the leg. so yeah, she's dead in this au. sorry guys 😭😭😭😭😭

i'm probably gonna go more in depth about this in the story, esp since i already thought she died LOL

so basically i'm giving babs extra childhood trauma (going the jim and bruce route with that), which honestly kinda fits because of the whole generational hero thing that jim and bruce kinda have going on (bruce's and jim's dads, jim passes it on to bruce, bruce passes it on to his kids, they both pass it on to babs).

more on that in the actual story LOL. i never really pictured barbara kean as working in the canon batfam universe anyway (just because penguin kinda has her niche). since in batfam canon it always seemed like she was at least primarily living with her dad, whereas barbara lee from gotham seems to be living primarily with her mom, and the only time i can see this changing is if something happened to her mom.

partially, i also think that babs herself had some sway in the whole not-going-to-ivy thing. barbara isn't a damsel in distress, and she likely wouldn't like bruce overstepping like that and just assuming that she wants to be cured just because selina did (not that she knew about selina being temporarily paralyzed, unless her dad told her). barbara doesn't see herself as any less of a person for her disabilty (which is good of course! though it took a little while for her to get used to everything and truly accept it) so she basically tells bruce to not get involved with any magic stuff for her.

the selina-barbara parallel is kinda crazy tho. i'm definitely gonna have to explore that in my fic (how bruce feels about it, selina, and babs of course).

bruce majorly spiraled after jason's death, so honestly i think that his mindset just wasn't in the best spot and that he wasn't doing okay mentally at all. honestly, he might have gone back to his old alcohol habits from his brucie phase (yes i know in gotham it's spelled brucey but i hate that) like some people headcanon.

basically, i don't really want to change any of the existing batfam canon as much as i can (like retconning barbara to have been cured, idk i just don't like that) and also i feel like bruce would never trust any of those people to be close to any of his loved ones haha.

Your last post is funny bc just TODAY I watched that season finally. I’m literally 2 episodes into season 5 right now. As someone who just watched that for the first time (and hadn’t noticed it WAS the season finally when I started watching it) I was losing my goddamn MIND watching those episodes. Just constantly 😯😯😯. I began watching 911 when I started seeing posts circulating about Buck being bi. At the time I had no idea who he was other than the occasional gif set but it made me intrigued and I have been HOOKED. Literally trying to get through as many episodes as possible so I can watch the episodes live. Questions for you (since I have no one else to talk to about the show); when did you start watching? Have you had any predictions while watching the show that didn’t/ did come true? Like for me when I watched season 1 and Abby went to the fire department for the first time I SWORE up and down that her and Bobby were meant to be endgame (was clearly wrong lol). But also after Chris got stuck in the Tsunami I called it that something would happy to Harry later on (just a feeling that no one was safe lol, not even the kids). I’m just so curious to see what the fandom theories have been over time lol since I missed out on it!

Yeah, no, watching suspicion/survivors for the first time is WILD. Like, imma be honest and bit oversharing, I watched the show for the first time in a depressive episode, so I watched everything up to 5x10 in like, 6 days according to the posts I made on Tumblr about it, so I didn't realize theorize about anything, I was just hitting next episode like my life depended on it. But I didn't know anything about the show, like, at all, I had just watched 911 lone star in a weekend because it was on the tv and there were only like, 20 episodes of it out it at the time and a network in my country was just showing all of them on a loop, and I opened the Disney app fully intending to rewatch grey's anatomy, and 911 was the first show on my recommended to you list, and I had liked lone star enough, and was like sure why not. And I legit couldn't stop watching. All of this happened the week before 5x11 aired on the us, so 5x11 was the first episode I watched like "live" (the first episode I actually watched live was 5x16) but I watched it in the same week, I think I finished on a Tuesday? And the episode aired on Monday. I can't really give you any theories I have witnessed so far because they would be spoilers tho, but if you wanna come back once you catch up we can talk about some of the madness that goes around here. But I had the same thing happen to me, I didn't realize it was the season finale, and I didn't know anything about the show, so I had no idea what was happening, and I thought I had learned my lesson with the tsunami arc, because I watched 3x01 at like 3 am fully saying this is the last episode I will watch and then I'm gonna go to bed, and then the tsunami hit, and I was like well fuck and then Chris fell in the water and next thing I know is 5 am and Eddie is making me cry at the end there. But I saw the 13 and didn't realize the season only had 14 episodes and then everything kept happening. I seriously cannot imagine what it was like to be forced to wait a week between those 2 episodes it was SO CRAZY. When Eddie got shot I legit froze. Watching that for the first time not knowing it's coming is SOMETHING. I do remember thinking that they were gonna kill Shannon but I didn't expect to be right, I also remember clocking that Jason was Doug pretty fast. Something funny tho, I remember posting that meme that's like "I've had blank for 1 day and a half but if anything happened to him I'd kill everyone in this room and myself" with Buck and I waited until I had been watching for a day and a half, that means I posted it while watching the season 2 finale. I think I understand why people ship her with Shinichi/Conan: They are in the same boat and they have experienced the same things. But somehow I can only see them as good friends. And I wish to see Ran and Shiho/Ai also getting know to each other better and being friends ❤️

And the same goes for many other Detective Conan ships which includes Shinichi or Ran. I can see why people ship them, but for me, Shinichi and Ran are meant to be. I can’t see Shinichi with Ai/Shiho, not with Kid, not with Amuro or anyone else than with Ran. The same goes with Ran: People can ship her with Sera, Araide, Eisuke, whoever, but I just can’t see her with anyone else than with Shinichi.

And just saying, I don’t hate any ships. I think that everyone can ship whoever they want together and I respect that, but I also hope that people remember to respect other’s ships too.

But for me, Shinichi and Ran are meant to be. When I started to watch Detective Conan, I hated Shinichi. I hate characters (and people) who are so self-centered, so full of themselves, and womanizers, and even though the main story interested me and even though during those first 5 minutes Shinichi was so cool while solving that first case, I saw those traits in him in the next minutes and my first thought was: Really? Do I need to watch over 800 episodes where THIS guy is the main character?! I hate him already!

But then we got the scene where Ran tells Shinichi that it’s okay to flirt with girls, but he should at least pick up his favorite. And do you remember his soft gaze when he looked at Ran? Ah, I was so melted, like… That boy is so in love with that girl, and part of me hated it because my picture of Shinichi was still a selfish womanizer, and that sweet Ran would deserve so much more, so much better, but goddammit, that look…

Luckily my opinion of Shinichi has changed 😂 I love him too ❤️

And after that, there were so many moments where we saw how much those two care for each other, how much they miss each other, how they can feel when the other one is in trouble, or how far they would go for each other… They are soulmates. And even though Shinichi is jealous and does pretty much to stop other boys from flirting with Ran, I remember one of my favorite ShinRan moments (Chapter 337/Episode 270) where Shinichi says to Ai that if he would tell Ran how he feels, she would just miss him more. He is the guy who breaks her heart by making her wait and he doesn’t want to see her cry anymore, even if it means he has no longer a place in her heart. I cried and it hurt. Oh, it still does. Because Ran's happiness is so important to him, so important that he is ready to "let her go" if it means that she could be happy, that she wouldn't worry, that she wouldn't cry. Not because of him. And if that doesn’t show how much he loves her, then I don’t know what. He had said somewhere in the beginning of the manga/anime (actually chapter 71/episode 10) that it hurts him to see Ran cry, and I can’t even imagine how it must feel to be the reason why the person who you love most in the world, cries because of you. And he can't do anything about it.

Oh boy, there are so many scenes that I would love to bring up (like in the school trip, that Bloody Ceiling -moment when Ran clung his arm scared and Shinichi just looked at her softly and told her it's okay, that she should pay her respect (or something)), and there are so many good posts on Tumblr about ShinRan that I would love to dig up and link them here because I agreed with them so badly, but maybe I got carried away and in the end, you just asked my opinion about CoAi, so I got a little bit distract 😂 But I wanted to explain why. And of course, I also know ShinRan is the main pair of the story, so the creator can make them be anything. But I have to say, even though there are long times that nothing happens between them (and I don't like it either), Aoyama knows how to do ShinRan - at least for my liking ❤️ They are a sweet and pure pairing, they complete each other, and they believe in each other... They are just... perfect ❤️

Mechnikov's day Messages post

As we know, on 15 May Fyodor Vitin posted this picture of two heavily redacted responses from the Central Bureau (or equivalent) responding to a request for the detective services to investigate/search (presumably) some suspicions or leads he may have had.

In this post, I'm going to try to collect the information discovered by others (notably on reddit in this thread) and follow up on some of these things, and extrapolate a bit on the connection of this post to others made by Vitin.

I'll start from the more obvious leads/clues and end with more general points & discussion. I'm going to proceed with the assumption that we're all familiar with the post, so check it out beforehand please!

196-17-1

The numbers used to file Vitin's request were flagged as a possible index entry for page 196, line 17, word 1 of Mechnikov's Etudes sur la Nature Humaine: Essaie de Philosophie Optimiste (Part II, 1903). This is supported by the date of publication of the post as well as the partially visible cover page of Mechnikov's work in the first post by Vitin ('the Beginning')

This word (of the original French volume) is ibid., referring to E.B Tylor's Primitive Cultures (vol II). I cannot access the Russian translation, which thyminesquared on tumblr flagged as the reference, but the corresponding page is p. 114 of the English original. The cited part refers to worship of dead ancestors, and the offering (or first pick) of the fruit harvest to them.

Tylor in turn cites Reverend George Turner's Nineteen Years in Polynesia: Missionary Life, Travels and Research in the Islands of the Pacific (1861):

Page 88 of George Turner's book essentially recounts the same story (duh, this is how citing works), but also on the next page goes on to talk about the fear of the 'disease-makers' in the culture.

According to Wikipedia, the name/word Tanna means 'earth'.

I find this line of research interesting for a few reasons. For one, thematically it fits Pathologic rather well, and I would argue is also meant to embed the themes into a relatively coherent historical context, which may have influenced the story but also makes it more plausible. This is despite the anachronism of the game, since we know the ballpark of the time period. It furthermore embeds the character of Vitin (or whomever is referred to in the Mask post) into the field they are supposedly studying. For example, Tylor has a section on fetishes (non-sexual), and the word fétiche is used in that post.

I think this is the primary reason we are (seemingly) led down this path, it is implausible but not impossible that 196-17-1 would turn out to be something different. I checked some of his other works on immunology to be sure, the words made no sense (e.g. finalement (finally), important, [207] elements). The three works mentioned all describe the same kinds of phenomena, and it is difficult for me to see what specifically could function as a clue or key here to unlock 'the next part of the puzzle' so to speak. One connection that did occur to me is whether we are meant to draw a link between the seasonal festival mentioned in the 'Mask' post and the types of rites mentioned in these works. I don't know what the fit or conclusion would be.

The second reason this is interesting is more 'meta' and ties into the above point. The question that arises prominently for me is how to understand the nature of this ARG, especially in comparison to the Feverish Feeling ARG? As stated, I don't find this to point at a specific clue that is useful later and I think that raises the question whether this ARG is preponderantly meant to offer fun little contextual hints and easter eggs at the Bachelor route rather than lead to something else. I don't want to discount anything though, because answering this requires more Vitin posts.

The text that appears at the bottom of the image in the Messages post was quickly flagged as a ciphertext or anagram of sorts. I know very little about ciphers, but using the site linked by Reddit user DeepForceAlpha, I did try a bunch of suggested ciphers. My takeaway simply from the ratio of vowels to consonants would be that this is indeed an anagram, and not a phrase meant to be cracked using a cipher key, because shifting the alphabet produces mainly unintelligible consonant strings (but I could be wrong). The other interesting possibility is that it could be a key itself to a future ciphertext.

This is another one of those clues where the question about the ARG's nature rears its head, because if as suggested by @cr-pisacs-evil-brother in this very in-depth post you should check out, the string is meant to make many different words without using all of the letters that are all correct answers simultaneously, then I don't think it's very useful as a clue in an ARG meant to lead somewhere. I sincerely hope this doesn't come off as rude, I am simply thinking about the 'meta rules' of an ARG and how Ice-Pick Lodge would have to construct it so it would work for us who have to solve it. This however does not mean I am definitively right, obviously.

Likewise the suggestion by Reddit user Own_Sympathy_9814 that the answer is MAVRUD + VERIDIC + EXECUTOR leaves me puzzled. There is a lot to be read into that, and I don't find the suggestion that The Marble Nest is a twyrine based hallucination very convincing - especially as the voices within the DLC near the Stillwater reference Dankovsky being sick/feverish (or at least this is my interpretation). Coincidentally, I think this is a very interesting easter egg within the DLC because not only do they say 'feverish' they also refer to a house burning down. The parallels to the Accident post are rather obvious. For this reason, I am rather tempted to flag this as relevant and something to think about in the future.

On the other hand, if the three words are meant to draw attention to the DLC as a source of the next clue they would perhaps work? It is possible that we're meant to read the posts within the frame of some story we have to construct. In this context, I think the mention of Voronika Kroy and seemingly her picture in the post can be adduced as hinting at some sort of continuity and context we are meant to read into it. This however will have to be a separate post.

General thoughts & comments

Apart from the above, things that I am wondering about have indeed to do with the surrounding context we can read into the post.

Why are messages redacted? Who has redacted them and who is actually in possession of them? Usually institutions redact sensitive information in the context of for example an access to information request, however this would only pertain to information sought, not the accompanying note explaining here is the info you asked for. The other explanation might be e.g. criminal investigations or the like, but again I do wonder about it nonetheless. I am probably reading too much into it and the point is to generate intrigue for us?

The mask image appears in the next post as well, singed this time. What is the significance of this repeat? In the Messages post it looks to be ripped from a dossier/spiral bound notebook, which could indicate that it has been stored by someone else for archival etc purposes? Maybe research purposes...

Right now my hunch is that Vitin has somehow gotten wind of the Feverish Feeling ARG's happenings and decided to dig deeper with the help of the authorities.

These are things I hope to return to in the future, but I'd like to wait for a new post before that, at least if there'd be one relatively soon. I would really like to know what other people think about how the posts relate to one another and all things that strike you as odd! (and maybe also what sorts posts would be useful idk)
