Pippin is a one-act musical! Lots of short plays are very tightly paced and intense and because of that it works!

THAT DOESN'T MAKE ONE ACT NO INTERMISSION THE SUPERIOR STRUCTURE

There are two act musicals that can probably work as one act (Hadestown, I also think it would be really hard to put a second act in a hypothetical stage version of Encanto without doing a bit of restructuring)

There are 2.5 hour movies that don't have intermissions and really, REALLY should (take your pick?)

THAT DOESN'T MEAN INTO THE WOODS WORKS BETTER WITHOUT AN INTERMISSION! Or at all!

Say, Alto... If Sephiroth was the one who handled Yuffie during the Crisis Core missions, how do you think it would be like? I don't think Sephiroth's going to murder or arrest her, but Yuffie would naturally be MUCH more furious and defiant towards him, I think, trying to beat him to the materias and cursing him. What do you think? Would he even throw her around, humor her like Zack did, or just ignore her and get the Materia?

Knowing Sephiroth , he probably would have just grumpily swatted her away like a housefly. She keeps charging at him and he just casually knocks her back and going about his business, but without ever actually hurting her. Sephiroth can be rather blunt and cantankerous whenever he's in mission-mode, but he's not cruel to children. He'd be as gentle as possible around her, even if her exuberance annoys him.

How To Override Apartment Hall Walls and Floors

If you, like everyone else I know, hate the apartment hallways and want to give them the face lift they deserve, here's how!

An override is actually super simple. You just need S4S for this. Step one is to choose override under Build, and then click Build.

Now you need to find the wall you want to override. For this example, I'm making an override for the apartment in the Hakim House building. That wallpaper is called "Plaster Makes Perfect." (I figured this out by just going into build mode and searching and painting a nearby wall inside the apartment until I found the right one.) I have it set to Wall, Base Game, and I'm searching the word "plaster" to find it more quickly. Just click one swatch of the wall and S4S will pick all swatches, and then click "Next." Also, all of these instructions are exactly the same for floors, you'll just choose floors instead of walls.

Name your file whatever you want. To be consistent I name all mine to follow the naming convention: username_description. We only want to override one swatch so you'll just click "Remove Swatch" on all of the swatches except for the one you want to override.

Once you're done, go ahead and hit "Save" and then head back to the main menu. Now we need to get the wall we want to replace it with. This time, pick "add swatches" and then click Build. This will only pick one swatch instead of all.

Again, just find the wall you want to use. Only select the actual swatch you want and then click "Next." You'll have to create a file here again, I just have a package called "test" that I save over for these instances where I don't actually need a new .package file, I just need to grab textures.

Now you'll go to the "Texture" tab and click "Export All."

On this save screen, create a folder for these texture files and then click "Select folder" to finish exporting.

Now, go back to the main menu and open up your original file. On the texture tab, you now just need to import all of your texture files. You'll import a Diffuse, Normal, and Specular for each wall height. So 9 files total, these are what you just exported. Just click Diffuse, Normal, or Specular, and then click the wall height, and then click Import. Go to that folder of textures you just created and then choose the correct file. S4S named each one exactly what they are so it's easy to pick the right ones.

Keep doing that until you've replaced all 9 files, change your swatch colors, and then hit save. Congrats, you just made an override of that wall!

Hold up, you still want access to that swatch you just made an override of? There's a quick and easy solution. Go back to your main menu and choose "Add Swatch" and then click "Build." Find the exact swatch you made an override of, select it and click "Next." Give your new package file a good name.

Hit save and call it a day. That's it. Now, every wall in the game that is that brown plaster will be the wall with paneling BUT since I added that plaster swatch back, anywhere else that I wanted to use that brown plaster, I can just go and paint it right back!

hello is this thing on. okay i have something to say I THINK rote would adapt really well into a musical. specifically the liveship trader trilogy but also the farseer trilogy. maybe the others but i haven’t read them yet.

you could easily justify the following songs/numbers/scenes/etc:

fitz “i want” song that reprises a couple times as that want changes throughout the first trilogy. from go the distance (hercules) to maria (west side story) to one song glory (rent) to this is the moment (jekyll & hide).

fitz “dead mom” song that’s about chivalry. fitz gets a lot of solos. he’s also the narrator character bc future fitz writing his story is still the narrative container here. fitz absolutely gets a fun home casting situation.

REGAL VILLAIN SONG. it has dance numbers it has opulence it has cronies trying to copy regal only to get stage-slapped when regal realizes they’re copying.

burrich & patience have a duet where they tell fitz about chivalry that’s also split stage. chivalry is always in shadow or silhouetted. burrich is baritone and patience is a soprano.

yearning and boisterous althea “i want” song that mirrors vivacia’s mournful “i want” song when she realizes she doesn’t know what she wants. she starts singing the same refrain but can’t finish the sentence.

captain kennit & the marietta crew pirate number. very similar to captain hook deliberately until it gets more and more sinister and less hokey/fun.

the fool & amber notably never sing. sometimes the fool will sing acapella within a sing but it’s not A Song. will consider amber more when i finish the liveship trilogy.

devastating wintrow “i am” song about his yearning for the monastery that reprises when he realizes he can never go back.

verity & fitz then verity & kettle demonstrating the skill via song; the duet begins dissonant then becomes more and more synchronous until the voices nearly sound identical in tone & timbre.

malta solo that highlights her daydreams; her “world” is very stylized (full expressionism mode) to show her motivations, her desire for opulence and flare for the dramatic, as well as her growing understanding of the world around her. dance numbers!!!!

HUGE number on the reaper when they’re battling the storm and the serpent that’s also split stage with maulkin and his tangle.

What instrument each marauder would play according to me and @whoahtherepal:

Regulus: Violin. First desk, first seat. Concert master and a fucking prat about it. Probably grew up playing piano and switched to violin later, and is the biggest sweat in the orchestra. No one wants to be first desk with him because he doesn’t have perfect pitch but he’ll still know and make sure to tell you when you play slightly out of tune

Marlene: Trumpet obviously. She’s the most stereotypical trumpet player ever

Lily: Bassoon, and she would be the biggest oboe hater as well because apparently double reed friendly fire is turned off. She could also maybe play euphonium but maybe that’s just because euphonium is a very gryffindor coded instrument

James: Oboe. Also later picked up alto sax and established himself as Terrible And Annoying but constantly playing Careless Whisper at any and every given moment. Possibly also trombone just because he likes the slide

Remus: Electric bass. He would mainly play it in a cover band with friends and does not give a shit about school band. He’s only there because James insisted (and because a certain heir of Black is there). Also even if it isn’t technically an ensemble instrument there is literally nothing else that he could possibly be and also we have an electric bass in our band. I’m so serious we thought about it for so long and there is actually nothing

Evan: Cello. Loves the instrument and initially picked it because Barty really wanted him to be the last member of his string quartet with Regulus and Dorcas

Peter: Flute. Not as invested in music as the rest of his friends but loves it nonetheless.

Mary: Viola. She wanted to learn violin but then she heard it and decided it was too squeaky and high pitched and liked the lower sound of the viola more. Wants to start a wind instrument so she can be with Lily and Marlene, but can’t decide on one and loves viola anyway

Pandora: Clarinet and harp as her main instruments but she also used to learn piano and still plays it from time to time

Barty: Percussion because pent up anger issues. Except he’s the craziest tryhard at so he would also play violin, viola, double bass, trumpet, flute, clarinet, and tuba. He’s that one guy that can play anything, but he would NOT be cooperative about it. The second that there’s other percussionists there he would ditch and go pick a random section to play with, but if he’s asked to help fill in to help with any missing parts he activates stubborn fucker mode and goes anywhere but where the conductor wants him

Dorcas: Euphonium and violin. First violin because she’s good but also the only one that regulus won’t be a prick to

Sirius: Flute. Sirius was actually so difficult because he’s such an electric guitar player, but we were trying to do this based off school band/orchestra, so this was our best attempt. He too would’ve been forced to play piano when he was younger like Regulus, and also would’ve had to pick a second instrument when he was older. Out of the instruments that his parents gave him the option of, the only non string instruments were flute and clarinet, so he went with flute. He wanted a wind instrument so he could be as loud and raucous on his instrument as possible, and decided flute over clarinet because it “fit his vibe more” (he saw punks out on the street with silver studs and spikes and jewellery and thought a silver instrument was close enough). He doesn’t really like typical band music though, and does not like school band one bit. He would be more the type of flute player that does solos in a jazz ensemble and somehow manages to fucking shred on the flute and sounds fantastic every time.

Britney Spears is not a Soprano

Confession: the most frustrating thing I hear in pop music is the claim that Britney Spears is a soprano.

She's not – even when she's doing the very affected, fry-laden baby voice, she sounds noticeably comfortable in her lower range. While part of this is passaggio stuff, old recordings show that she didn't use to have major passaggio issues, even if her pre-fame voice is quite pushed at times. As of fame, her affected voice involves a deliberate chesty mix + compression... and possibly also a tense tongue. Honestly, it sounds pretty tense, unless she goes into her high, breathy mode, in which case she seems to be deliberately using a vocal registration flip. We don't get to hear much straight head voice – but when she sounds relaxed, she has this gorgeous low resonance. (Backup vocals in the last chorus of "If U Seek Amy" prove this nicely.) She's not a sop in the slightest – the only time she sounds remotely soprano-ish is when she's doing the deliberately flipped high stuff, which is just alto forced not to use a healthy mix and held back from working on head voice. That is not a soubrette tone! Or a lyric tone! It's just technique!

Even when people talk about her having a high voice, while I know range does not define voice type, listen to most of her big hits. She tends to sing pretty low – "Baby One More Time" has regular Eb3s, the verses of "Womanizer" sit around G#3/below, and while "Gimme More" is in a much more moderate range, the pre-choruses are still low. Britney sounds best and most relaxed below the stave, and is naturally resonant down there, even when the nasality turns off. (Note, again, that when she goes low, she sounds more relaxed, and often less affected.) She's not just a not soprano – she's not even a mezzo, but a genuine contralto.

Also – some of those supposedly bright tones in Britney's voice aren't actual vocal noises – they're post-processing. Specifically, there seems to be a very specific EQ tone involved – boosts probably around 1k and 4k, then a high-shelf boost from 10k up, as well as some rather aggressive low-shelving, all preceded by a crap tonne of compression. That, alongside autotune, makes her voice sound terribly robotic and nasal, never mind that it's actually just tonnes of mixing stuff. Her songs starting from Blackout onwards are a product of the loudness wars, and as such, that specific EQ is very consistent until her early-2010s output. But we also hear similar (if slightly less processed) stuff earlier on, especially on "I'm a Slave 4 U" and "Toxic". This means that a lot of her supposed vocal tone has been mixing all along. It's not soubrette, because it's not real resonance – her real resonance is audible only on those backups and improvs as of 2003 onwards.

I am currently feeling insane about how it’s Brat of All Time and Pest from Hell Genesis who finally managed to put a crack in Sephiroth’s perfect, calm composure, and get one of the rawest most stone cold bitch lines ever delivered…

I would have killed myself on the spot if I was Genesis and EVEN IF it was moreso the result of Jenova proximity and subsequent spiral into madness its’s still Red Leather Forever Genesis who gets it to show. And this is why I will never hate Genesis being in Nibelheim thank you for your time and for all you do Alto lots of love and appreciation to you ❤️

Genesis was legit the first ever person who managed to rattle adult Seph. On top of royally piss him off. Sephiroth's line is a final Fuck You, an end to a friendship he otherwise would have sacrificed everything for. All because Genesis told him his mom is lame lmao If this was Hojo saying it, I doubt Sephiroth would have reacted as strongly. But because it's Genesis, Sephiroth enters full Pissery Mode.

Sephiroth might have gotten the last word, but Genesis ultimately won the war lol. He got to live, get redeemed, and he's the first person to wound Sephiroth's pride, and all BEFORE Cloud shows up. What a Little Shit. He's OUR Little Shit.

Scorpion is polite and ladylike, but also sharp-witted, snide, sassy, and kind of venomous. She doesn't like being labeled as anything, and she doesn't like when people assume things about her. She wants to be able to know the full story of things, and to make sure others know it. She believes there's more to things than meets the eye. She seems prim and poised, but she can be carefree and let her hair down. She also really LOVES ballet and practices it in her free time (it's even a part of her costume and her fighting style). After all, even though scorpions are venomous and deadly bugs, they are also quite graceful, and their toxins can be used to help people.

Julia was a beautiful young French-American lady trying to survive school, ballet class and her shallow classmates. Her parents came to the US from Dijon, France, and she lived in Arizona. One day, as she was walking around during a trip to the desert, a genetically modified scorpion viciously stung her. In order to save her life, her genes were fused with a scorpion’s, making her immune to its venom. This gave her her scorpion tail and her current eye color. Scorpion was an infiltrator of the H.I.V.E. Academy, where she played clarinet for the school band and sang second alto in the school choir. After its destruction, she joined Titans East. 

Scorpion's powers are based on venom and poison, and she is immune to venom. She can use her tail like a whip and stun her enemies with a sting. Her hands also can produce a black toxin that can harm any living thing it touches. Thanks to her ballet experience, she's flexible and light on her feet, and she moves gracefully in battle. Her weaknesses include giving in to temptation, being taken advantage of, having trouble with being wrong, and her toxic temper.

Scorpion's voice would sound along the lines of Ellegaard from Minecraft Story Mode.

Melodea and Cadenza are a pair of musically superpowered sisters. Their real names are Elodea Andersson and Cadence Andersson. Melodea has longer hair and a flowy, mostly purple costume. Cadenza has short, swooshy hair and a costume that resembles a marching band uniform. Both of them are autistic.

Melodea is good-natured and helpful. She thinks of others all the time and tries to help them in any way she can. She speaks respectfully to people, staying mindful of their customs. She is also hardworking, knowing there are no shortcuts to success. In most situations, Cadenza will want to be the one in charge. She can get really agitated when someone tries to talk down to her, and like her sister, she can get quite loud. Cadenza is spirited, bold and sweet, and she's good at looking for details. She really enjoys being in the spotlight. Sadly, the sisters sometimes doubt their abilities.

Elodea and Cadence are sisters of Swedish, Italian, and Greek descent. They went to school together in Mississippi. Elodea did very well in her music lessons, but her teachers weren't very supportive of her because they thought she was "too socially challenged." Cadence was learning to play six instruments, but people around her said that she was "too ambitious." The sisters tried to overcome their self-doubt and keep working hard on their musical skills, and when they were at a point when they felt happy with themselves, their music sounded as good as they felt. A certain musical spirit rewarded the girls for putting in effort to believe in themselves. It changed their appearances and gifted them with musical superpowers, allowing them manipulate sound and music in superhuman ways. From this, Elodea became Melodea and Cadence became Cadenza. They still feel uncertain about themselves from time to time, but they do their best to stay up on their feet.

The girls infiltrated the H.I.V.E. Academy together to keep tabs on the organization, but were tasked with giving the students music lessons. Melodea handled their choral department, giving them voice lessons, while Cadenza taught them all to play an instrument. Following the Academy's collapse, the girls are seen going on missions across the country, particularly dealing with sound-related threats. Eventually, the girls earned their status as Honorary Titans. They joined the Titans and several other young heroes in their battle against the Brotherhood of Evil.

Melodea has a very powerful singing voice, a talent she gained from years of practicing. When she sings, her songs can control the emotions of those she is singing to, or otherwise subdue them. She can also manipulate the volume of her voice and lift herself off the ground with sound waves. Cadenza is able to play six instruments: trombone, bassoon, viola, snare drum, keytar and cymbals. She can also control how loud her music gets. The sound that comes from her playing her instruments can knock people backwards and destroy objects, especially glass ones. She can do this even when she isn't playing that loudly. She is more skilled at the keytar, drum and cymbals, as she started learning to play those at an earlier time in her life. Both of the girls are long-distance fighters. Most of the time, they fare best with ranged combat, but Cadenza can also parry with her drumsticks, and Melodea can redirect attacks with a conductor's baton.

The sisters are also able to teach. On a daily basis, Melodea works as a voice teacher and a vocal coach. Cadenza used to fill in for her band director whenever he was out. They are also able to conduct. Elodea can dance a little, but she's much more skilled in singing.
