1920s BIRTHSTONE LOOKBOOK - PART 1

To coincide with the recent release of the Crystal Creations pack I wanted to put together a couple of fun lookbooks inspired by birthstones. My mind first went to whimsigoth, but since I've already done one of those recently I instead went with the decade that oozed glittery glamour - the 1920s. Want more good time gals and fabulous flappers? You can check out part two here.

Garnet was believed to be a protective stone, which made it popular amongst warriors and royalty. Red variety garnets are also associated with vitality, love and light.

Amethyst was favoured by the ruling class thanks to its purple colour, which has long been a hue connected to royalty. Over time it has also come to be associated with spirituality, mental clarity and healing.

Aquamarine comes from the Latin word for seawater and as such, was thought to protect seafarers. The stone can also be associated with martial happiness and superior intellect.

Diamond is probably the most well known of the precious gems. Because of their association with strength and eternal love, they're a popular choice for engagement and wedding rings.

Emerald has a legend that says wearing it will imbue the wearer with heightened intelligence and objectivity. Others use the stone to promote healing, while some even believe it allows the wearer to predict the future.

Pearl is often valued for its unblemished surface and colouring, so naturally it is most commonly connected to qualities like honesty, purity and wisdom.

synopsis: your very first bonten party doesn’t go the way you planned. cw: sfw. allusion to anxiety attack, kissing, kind of suggestive, mentions of killing but nth graphic just typical bonten nonsense

a/n: i hope we all like this new theme !! this fic inspo came from this artwork of ran :3 had me thinking millions of thoughtsss i love him smm enjoy <3

bonten gatherings always have your stomach exploding with butterflies. the anxiety of fucking up in front of all of ran’s coworkers, angering someone you shouldnt, or offending anyone. all of it is possible. if you smile too much, too little, your tone is too harsh, too soft. you can fuck up ran’s image in a matter of seconds. the last thing you’d want to do is fuck it all up.

you’re led down a corridor by two of your bodyguards. they were employed by ran to shadow you at all times. at first it was annoying, feeling like you were being watched, but at some point you’ve become used to it.

you clammy palms rub down the sides of your purple dress. the small sparkles on it elevate it from a sleeveless casual dress to a beautiful outing dress. it’s nothing too fancy, but the jewelry adorned on your ears, neck, wrists, and fingers are the main show.

glimmering diamonds and amethysts bling under the lighting off the corridor. on your left hand is your wedding ring— a gorgeous diamond sitting right in the middle. you haven’t seen ran all day, but he left all of these things in your shared bedroom, with a sweet note.

you don’t know what to expect, this is your first time at a bonten party after all. the ones ran comes home from seem more rowdy, but this seems very classy, sophisticated. you’re so scared you’re going to embarrass him. as your bodyguards stand by the door, waiting for your signal that you’re ready, you chew at your lip.

“mrs. haitani? are you alright?” the call of your name catched your attention. you look up at the taller man dazed, before snapping back to reality. you shake your head and gently adjust your bracelet.

“yes, sorry. im ready,” you give them a gentle smile. as the door opens, you’re momentarily blinded by the bright, warm lights. as you step out of the doors, you’re greeted by a man. he’s not a bouncer, more like a waiter, perhaps? with a large smile he greets you, offering you champagne. in fear of increasing your chance of embarrassing ran, you decline politely. as you look down from the balcony, there’s at least two hundred people here.

however your eye immediately catches ran. he instantly looks up at you, a gentle smile on his face. his violet eyes soften, taking a look at you. he’s wearing his glasses for once, so he does not squint when he looks at you. a soft flush creeps onto your cheeks when you see him walking towards you, completely abandoning his conversation. he takes long strides towards the stairs. by the time you reach the bottom, you’re greeted by the sight of your husband.

“well hello, pretty lady. you come here often?” he jokes, flashing his teeth. you hide a giggle behind your hands. no matter how many years you both have been married, ran never fails to make you blush and giggle like a teenager. you wrap your arms around his neck, kissing him on the cheek.

“not really. never been here before, but my husband said i’ll have a lot of fun,” you go along with his joke, tilting your head. he chuckles before leaving a kiss on your head. in a low voice he whispers,

“you look gorgeous.” theres a light smell of bourbon on him that’s mixing with his cologne. you smile at him, cheek glimmering pink.

“thank you, you’re too sweet.” he takes a hold of your left hand, his other going to your hips. he pulls it closer to his lips, pressing a soft kiss on your ring finger.

“im glad you came,” ran looks at you with hearts in his eyes, but the moment is sharply cut off by a call of his name. rindou and an unfamiliar man walk up to you two. you smile at rindou, waving at the younger man. he lets a soft smile creep onto his lips before tilting his head down for a moment. ran stands at your side, arm looped around you. his hand settles at your hip, watching as rindou and this white-haired man approach you both.

“was wondering why you walked away from our client. couldn’t leave the pretty lady alone, could ya?” the man beside rindou jokes, before smiling at you.

“kokonui,” he says with a gleaming smile. you smile back at him, a tad bit intimidated by him. you stretch out your hand before retracting it when rindou’s lips curl into a snicker.

“ah sorry. nice to meet you, sir.” the three men chuckle, making your cheeks flush red. suddenly you feel very warm.

“haha, you’re funny. haven’t had somebody call me sir in a minute. koko is fine. you’re this sucker’s wife, i couldn’t have such a pretty lady call me sir,” he smiles again, taking a sip of his drink. ran’s eyes glare at him and his younger brother.

“this sucker ought to remind you to be kind to his wife.” ran says through gritted teeth. you can’t help but feel like you’ve already fucked up. however, you don’t notice the lighthearted undertone of the conversation, far too immersed in your mistake. it’s not even an actual mistake, it was just being polite.

ran notices you’ve grown quiet and that flush on your cheeks hasn’t gone away. while koko and rin speak to each other, ran presses a kiss to the side of your head. “you okay, honey? something botherin’ you? whatever it is i can fix it for you, doll.” he says smoothly, smiling down at you. is he laughing at you? no, why would ran do that?

“im fine. im just gonna use the bathroom. excuse me,” you quickly walk away from the three, searching around for the bathroom. you walk in circles for a few minutes before finally finding the room. you quickly shut the door behind you, clutching your chest.

why are you so nervous? why are you talking this all so seriously? it’s a dinner party. you’re supposed to wind down, have fun. so why are you so nervous? you do know that some people here aren’t… the best, for lack of better terms. but that doesn’t mean you have to be walking on eggshells.

but what if ran’s friends— co workers, whatever— don’t like you? what if they think you’re a joke? do they think you’re dressed funny? that koko guy did walk up to you laughing and so did rindou. you stare at yourself in the mirror, picking apart every inch of your outfit. your hair is lopsided, makeup is slightly cakey, the dress is too much, the jewelry is too bold. you look horrible. why on earth did you think you’d look good in this outfit? why does ran even lo-

a knock on the door disturbs your thoughts. you didn’t even notice you were crying. “yes?”

“honey, are you alright?” ran says, worridly. “you’ve been gone for fifteen minutes. everything okay?” his voice is slightly agitated. fuck, you already made him upset. you wipe your tears away, trying not to smudge your concealer.

“im fine! just had to fix my hair,” you reply back, adjusting your dress. you quickly put yourself back together, placing the necklace and bracelet into your clutch. you finally step outside the bathroom, greeted by ran standing right outside. he leans against the doorframe, brows furrowed. he is upset.

“what happened?” he says in a soft tone as his hands lay on your waist. one hand cups your cheeks, rubbing under your eye. “why are you crying? did someone say something?” you shake your head, pushing him away, but he doesn’t allow that. “baby, what’s wrong?” you again, push him away.

“nothing, im just tired.” he furrows his brows again, grabbing a hold of your wrist. his grip isnt tight, but it’s sturdy. he tugs you back to him, forearms resting against his chest.

“my love, please.” there’s this look of pity on his face, you think. the tears boil in your eyes and ran instantly pulls you into his arms. he has your back to the wall, hiding your form under his large shoulders and tall frame. “it’s okay, i got you.” after a few moments of sobbing into his chest, you mumble out a few words.

“im so sorry. i embarrassed you, im sorry.” ran, again, furrows his brows. what do you mean? he looks down at you, kissing your forehead as he cups your face in his hands. his thumb instantly wipes away your tears.

“you could never embarrass me, i love you so much. i would kill someone if they ever said you we’re embarrassing.” ran hugs you tigher, his chin propped on your head. “they wouldn’t even be able to breathe their next breath if i ever heard that.” he chuckles, peppering kisses onto your face. you look up at him, frowning.

“but koko and rin were laughing. i look ridiculous like this too, they probably thought it too,” ran tilts his head, a smile on his face.

“where did you get that impression from? you looks fucking gorgeous, baby.” he chuckles, kissing your cheeks once a again. “they were laughing at sanzu who was behind you. they wouldn’t even dare,” he says in a serious tone. you look up at ran, confused.

“i mean it when i said i’d never let anyone bully you. even my own brother cannot. nobody can,” he kisses the back of your hand, callused hands rubbing your wrists. his violet eyes soaked with love and adoration. he takes your hand and places his cheek in your palm, kissing the inside of your wrists.

“sometimes i wonder how your mind wanders to these places. i love you. no matter what, i love you, doll. mkay? no matter what,” he mumbles against you skin. “fuck, you could shoot me and i’d still love you. carve my heart out and-“ you interuot him, laughing.

“okay, okay! please don’t say things like that, gives me the chills thinking thats what you see on a daily basis,” you hit his chest and ran erupts into a fit of laugher. his arms wrap around you, holding your body flush to his as he rocks back and forth.

“i love you always. no matter what. i promise, i’ll do whatever it takes to protect you,” he gazes into your eyes, watching the way you shy under his intense gaze. he loves the way your face heats up at the slightest bit of affection. you hide in his chest, mumbling back,

“i love you too.” he steps back, his arm looped around your shoulders.

“come now, let’s go back, yeah? there’s a bet going on to see how long it’ll take sanzu to shoot our client’s friend.” you grimace as ran chuckles.

“please get me out of here before that,” he presses a kiss to the side of your head,

“yes ma’am.”

The Devonshire Parure

The Devonshire Parure consists of a coronet, diadem, bandeau, comb, necklace, stomacher, and bracelet. It was commissioned by the 6th Duke of Devonshire for Countess Granville, the wife of his nephew, to wear while accompanying him to Moscow for the coronation of Tsar Alexander II in 1856.

Made and designed by C.F. Hancock with input from Sir Joseph Paxton, the parure incorporates 88 cameos and intaglios from the 2nd Duke of Devonshire’s extensive carved gem collection depicting different Tudor monarchs. It includes carnelian, amethyst, garnets, emeralds, sapphires, onyx, jacinth, lapis lazuli, plasma, sardonyx and diamonds all set in gold and enamel.

The parure has been featured in Sotheby's Treasures from Chatsworth exhibit and docuseries. When not on tour, the parure is displayed at Chatsworth House, the home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire.

A teeny tiny Rhys kind of angsty drabble with a plot twist ending 👉👈 it kind of took on a mind of its own when I began writing him using his money to get reader's forgiveness..

Plot Measures

Warning - Based on the fan theory that Rhysand is actually evil

The waitress silently handed you the bill. Her hands were shaking as if you were about to explode on her at any second.

Your anger wasn't with her. She wasn't your mate, home for the first time in 50 years and already making promises they couldn't keep.

You handed her the payment and a heavy tip, apologizing to her gently as you held her hand in hers and walked out into the streets of Velaris.

You had shut your end of the bond down hours ago. Choosing to eat in silence at your table for two when you realized Rhysand wasn't coming. You didn't want him to feel your turmoil and burning rage.

Fae bowed their heads to you, soft greets of “High Lady,” following the movement. You hadn't felt like a High Lady in months, though. Rhys had a new power toy he was all too excited to manipulate and play with, leaving you in the dark as his plotting had finally come to fruition. He was using her. You knew this.

You knew each member of his Inner Circle was a pawn. A piece he could use to achieve the High King Title one day. Why should you have expected anything more for yourself? Being his mate, his equal in all of this, it didn't mean he treated you above that expectation. Especially with your powers.

You shook that thought. Being his mate did mean he loves you, and you did at least know that as tendrils of darkness began to race towards you, finding you in the streets and leading you somewhere.

You sighed outside of the jewelry shop, opening the door and raising a brow at your husband. “Pick whatever you'd like,” his voice was defeated. Face showing the obvious signs of his mistake. “I am sorry, darling.”

You nodded and began to browse as he held you close, kissing each finger. “I have no excuse. I forgot.”

You nodded again, pointing to a salt and pepper necklace and earring set, watching as it was removed from the case, and you continued looking. His lips were near your ear, purring softly enough only you could hear him, “I promise I will make it up to you in the end. That we will have our happy ending. Our perfect victory.” You pointed to another diamond necklace, almost drooling at how finely cut the stones were. "The bracelet and earrings too," Rhysand faked politeness. "I'd also like to see that set closer," he motioned towards a finely made amethyst necklace and earrings set.

You smiled, turning in his arms and playing coy as the worker was preoccupied bagging the expensive gemsets, including the amethyst set Rhysand had approved. "And when you were that crown, will you fuck me on that throne in front of her? Put her in her place and remind her she is truly nothing more than your whore?”

"I'll buy the store if you want. Bathe you in a tub of diamonds, gems, and gold until you forgive me. I'll kneel at your feet, worship you, my queen." You pointed to another piece, a gorgeous choker that fell into body chains. "Gods wear that for me with nothing below it, darling. Let me show you how sorry I am. Anything you ask is yours, my mate."

Autumn Traditions

Summary: Just a little blurb about Eris' thoughts on some Autumn Court courting traditions. @erisweekofficial Day 4: Traditions

Author's Note: There are many fanarts out there of both Lucien and Eris that show them with some type of braiding in their hair. What if the braids actually symbolize something? For instance, they could be a quick way to visually determine a male's relationship status (provided their hair is long enough for braiding). For example:

Short Hair/No braid= single and not looking for marriage

One braid on the right= single and looking for marriage

Two braids on the right = courting, but not yet engaged

One braid on the left = engaged

Two braids on the left = married

Three braids on the left =widowed

I think females would show their relationship status more through jewelry rather than hair style. For Autumn Court I could see gold and rose gold as the primary metals. For those in higher standing red gemstones (Garnets and Rubies specifically) would be used as the focal point of the piece. Diamonds, darker amethyst, and darker emeralds could be added to enhance the piece. For those that are in lower classes, less precious gems such as Carnelian, Citrine, and Smokey Quartz could be used a focal points.

I feel like the Fae wouldn't be limited to rings either. (If I remember correctly, it was mentioned that Tamlin only gave Feyre an engagement ring due to her previous human life). Therefore, I feel like the Fae would also use necklaces, earrings, or bracelets in addition to rings for engagements. The type of jewelry could even be an indication of how the engagement came to be.

Rings = traditional love matches

Earrings/Bracelets = arranged marriages

Necklaces = mates (because it is close to the heart)

Eris glanced around the ball room, completely uninterested in the spectacle that surrounded him. The social season had begun in full swing in the Autumn Court. One of the oldest of Fae traditions for making marriage matches for the females of the court. One that had also been fully adopted by the Humans over the centuries. At least according to his youngest brother's letters about his travels along the continent with his mate.

For centuries Eris had lacked any interest in attending these functions. He had much rather get a few hours of nightly training with his hounds, making sure that their senses remained sharp under any circumstances. However, this year his Mother had absolutely insisted that he at least make an appearance.

While he had the capability to be as social as expected of an Autumn Court Lord, Eris just didn't have the energy for pretense and painful small talk. So, he found himself standing to the sidelines. His long hair down, cascading in a river of crimson down his back. He had to try and refrain from poking and prodding at the itching pain the single intricately woven braid along the right side of his head caused. Another damn nonsense tradition in his mind, but who was he to deny his Mother in the end.

He knew perfectly the well the game that she was trying to quietly play for Eris. The single braid signifying to all the Ladies and their Fathers that the High Lord's eldest son was finally back on the marriage market. After the termination of his engagement to Morrigan centuries ago, he was certain that his Mother had managed to convince his Father that it was high time some grandchildren were produced.

Eris scanned over the room again. Males of all ages had braids in their hair. The location and number each signifying those available from those that weren't. He noted that the Father's of eligible young ladies now seemed to add charms to their marriage braids. Perhaps a new tradition was beginning to form.

While it was easy to spot every intention of the Male's filling the space, it was always more difficult to see which females had already become spoken for. Rings were often difficult to spot from a far. Earrings even more so. But it was the presence of necklaces that many males were fearful of finding around the neck of a beneficial match.

Eris' deep honey hued orbs snagged on the one female who sported such an item. Out of the hundreds that filled the ballroom, there was at least one pair of mates. A true reminder of the scarcity of mates. Though, the Night Court seemed to have a considerable amount of luck in that feat.

He sighed, one of his Father's underlings finally decided to descend upon him. Closing his eyes to prepare his mask as the cold and indifferent heir. Oh, the things he did for his family.

I Love the way you draw trolls!! But I have to ask, whats up with the gems that you give them in place of their bellybutton? Is it based on canon or sum? I'm not well versed in trolls lore hehe

Prepare for a deep dive... 😅 In short, it's KIND OF canonical? But not really? It's honestly just a long-standing headcanon of mine! A design choice just like tails and paws for me!

Some trolls do have them in canon like DJ Suki (and I think a few background trolls), and they are incorporated into the Netflix show in one of the episodes (Gem Day!) but the shows are not canon.

Though, the Trolls Facebook page also brings them up for their Troll of the Month posts and I personally choose to view these as canonical since they use the movie renders.

They do mention belly gems in Trolls Holiday as well but my incorporation was purely coincidence because I've been giving them belly gems far before any of that was established because of the Trollz TV show I grew up with!

The Trolls in that iteration of the franchise had magical belly gems linked to their magical abilities and bracelets. The main character, Amethyst, had a heart shaped amethyst in her belly.

Amethyst actually has some visual hair similarities to Poppy! Poppy also has a pink heart shaped gem according to DreamWorks!

I kind of just gave Branch and Poppy those gem shapes simply because it just felt right, but DreamWorks seems to agree! 😆 For me, Poppy and Viva both have heart shaped gems. (Viva's is yellow tho) Branch and his brothers all have the same diamond/rhombus shape too :] they usually match the color of their hair.

I give the gems a magical and emotional connection to trolls, as based on the Gem Day episode, their gems are formed by joy throughout the troll's life after planting their first hair. (Branch's gem is cracked due to his greyness but that's a rare instance.)

For me, they're born with one in their belly and then they can grow a separate one in the same way as the Gem Day episode, but the ones in their belly cannot be replaced nor removed. Whatever happens to it is permanent, they must be careful! :]

These gems can be planted together with a partner's or apart (single or ace trolls) in order to wish for/manifest a baby. There's other methods of how eggs can be formed for trolls, but I love the idea of it always being a magical process for them! :] Kind of a nod back to the Good Luck Trolls/Wish Trolls toys where trolls all began! 💖💖💖

Hope my headcanons were interesting to you! I love explaining my gem theories for them :] I've loved trolls long before these movies so my love for trolls runs deep 💖 I was too young (or not born) when the OG trolls were at their peak but I love these little guys!!

And as for the diadem on Darcy’s forehead it is amethyst that helps clear the mind, and for her, helps focus on psychic magic.

And her two bracelet are obsidian that helps protect against negative energy, but for her it’s to help her ease her mind and give her a sense that she is safe from Liliss, one of the Ancestors.

Icy’s necklace and anklet are made of crystals from Diamond that she kept as a keepsake.

Stormy has a small tattoo of a lightning bolt on her ankle to sort of reassure herself that she still has control over her magic after her ✨tragic backstory that was the Ancestral Witches fault ✨ happened.

Ambassador to Madness

Summary: All Bilbo wanted was to be an ambassador to one of the richest kingdoms in Middle Earth. Upon meeting its prince, his opinion is greatly lessened. However, Bilbo still finds himself agreeing to play the part of his consort to help free Erebor from the gold mad Thror. Turns out, Thror may not be as blind as his grandson thinks, and intends to use Bilbo to get rid of Thorin once and for all.

New Chapter- Chapter 9: Feast and Fashion

Bilbo allowed it as walked over to pluck the book out of Thorin’s hands, his fingers ghosting over the section fondly. “Yes, she helped the author understand flower language for the story.”

“That’s like our gem language, right?” Thorin asked.

Bilbo nodded.

“Would you translate this part for me then?”

Bilbo’s heart was beating wildly in his chest especially when he could probably guess what part Thorin was at. Sure enough, as soon as the book was passed over to Bilbo, he saw that Thilion had just given the longing bouquet to Linnadis even though she had told him she was accepting Míriedir’s proposal to court. Thorin leaned over Bilbo’s shoulder so he could see the words as well, and as his breath tickled his neck, Bilbo thought he was going to combust.

“A-ah, yes. So the pink camellia means “longing for you”. The edelweiss is “courage in one’s devotion”, and the red salvia…”

Bilbo trailed off as he looked up into Thorin’s uncomfortably close face. Unable to pull away from the encouraging blue of his eyes and wistful smile across his face.

“Forever mine.” Bilbo ended up near whispering.

Thorin hummed in sympathy, but did not pull away or take the book back. He merely continued to stare at Bilbo the same way.

“In gems, we would have used Ruby, Amethyst, and Diamond for such a message. Although it’s not an exact translation. Ruby is strengthening the decision making in passionate displays. Amethyst is about clearing one’s mind, but also being courageous in relationships. And then Diamond is practically indestructible so it’s a symbol of eternal love. Then there’s the matter of where you would place it. Possibly in a bracelet because our hands are our greatest gift from Mahal.”

At this, Thorin stroked the inside of Bilbo’s wrist causing the hobbit to gasp lightly.

“Or a necklace to keep close to your heart.”
